THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK BROKE NOT ALLOWING CAR TO START. *TR
MY STEERING COLUMN WENT OUT WITH THE CAR HAVING 62,000 MILES THERE IS A RECALL ON THE 2009 BUT NOT THE 2010. TO FIX THIS ISSUE IT WAS 900.00 AND NISSAN REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE AND ITS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THEIR CARS. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED THE CAR JUST STOPPED WORKING OUT OF NO WHERE AND WAS COMPLETELY LOCKED UP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE STEERING SHIFT LOCK FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 49,000. *TR
MY STEERING LOCK UNIT WENT OUT. NISSAN QUOTED ME 900 TO GET THE ISSUE FIXED WHICH ISN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, ITS A KNOWN FACT THAT MANY NISSANS EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. I ONLY HAD THE CAR 1 YEAR. *TR
MY 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA WILL NOT START. THE KEY LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON. I HAD IT TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALER ONLY TO BE TOLD IT WAS A STEERING LOCKS ISSUE THAT COST ME $1400 TO FIX. I WAS ALSO TOLD THIS IS HAPPENING OFTEN WITH THESE CARS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,285. UPDATED 5/27/14*CN
ARRIVED AT WORK ON 9 FEB 2014, CAR WAS WORKING PERFECTLY FINE. WHEN IT WAS TIME TO GO HOME, CAR WOULD NOT START AND A RED BLINKING LIGHT WITH A KEYLOCK APPEARED ON DASHBOARD, AN ATTEMPT WAS ALSO MADE WITH ADDITIONAL KEY TO NO SUCCESS. AFTER RESEARCHING PROBLEM ONLINE, IT IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE AUTOMATIC STEERING WHEEL LOCK MECHANISM WHERE IT JUST STOPS WORKING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. IT WAS RECALLED ON ALL 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA AND ALTIMAS, MINE IS A 2010 MANUFACTURED IN SEPT 2009 AND THE PART NUMBER IS THE SAME AS THE 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA MODEL. CAR WAS TOWED TO NEARBY NISSAN DEALER WHERE THEY STATED MY VIN NUMBER DID NOT SHOW UP AS A POTENTIAL CANDIDATE FOR THE 2009 ISSUE EXTENDED WARRANTY. I PAID $1272 FOR THE REPAIR BILL WHERE IT IS CLEARLY A FACTORY DEFECT AND HAVE HAD ZERO LUCK WITH NISSAN CUSTOMER AFFAIRS. THEY SIMPLY DENIED MY REQUEST STATING THAT THERE IS NO KNOWN PROBLEM WITH 2010 AND NEEDED MORE PEOPLE TO COME FORWARD. I CONTINUED MY QUEST ONLINE TO SEARCH OTHER DRIVERS WHO HAD SIMILAR ISSUES AND HAVE FOUND AN ENTIRE FORUM DEDICATED TO THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH EVERYONE HAVING THE SAME OUTCOME AND HAVING TO PAY OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES FOR A WELL DOCUMENTED ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL. WHEN CAR WAS AT NISSAN, THE OPTION WAS PAY $1200 TO FIX THE ISSUE OR LEAVE THE CAR THERE, THERE WAS NO OTHER OPTION GIVEN OR PROVIDED AS AN ALTERNATIVE. *TR
SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE WITH THE ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK MALFUNCTIONING ON A 3 AND 1/2 YEAR OLD CAR. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS THAT A PART THAT SHOULD LAST THE LIFE OF THE CAR FAILS SO OFTEN AND EVEN MORE RIDICULOUS THAT NISSAN IS NOT EXTENDING THE WARRANTY OR RECALLING IT FOR THE 2010 MODELS. NOT TO MENTION THAT THE PART IS ON BACK-ORDER AND WHO KNOWS HOW LONG I AM GOING TO HAVE TO COME OUT OF PACKET FOR A RENTAL AND OH BY THE WAY WAITING TO PAY $1300 PLUS TO GET THIS FIXED. THIS IS SO UPSETTING... NISSAN SHOULD STAND BY THEIR PRODUCTS AND RECOGNIZE THE FACT THAT THEIR DESIGN FOR THAT PART OBVIOUSLY DID NOT WORK. NISSAN SHOULD ALSO DO RIGHT BY THEIR CUSTOMERS AND TAKE CARE OF THIS ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE A 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA SV AND ALL WAS WELL UNTIL ONE MORNING I DROPPED OFF MY SON AT SCHOOL ON A FRIGID 5 DEGREE MORNING AND TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR. THE PUSH START WOULDN'T WORK AND I WAS FORCED TO CALL A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER. AFTER EVALUATION, THE PART IS THE STEERING COLUMN LOCK WHICH WAS DEFECTIVE. THE SAME PART THAT IN THE 2009 MAXIMA AND EARLY 2010 WAS DEFECTIVE AND PROVIDED EXTENDED REPAIR WARRANTY BY NISSAN. IT ONLY GOT WORSE, NISSAN'S REPLACEMENT PART FOR THIS HAS BEEN ON A NATIONAL BACKORDER SINCE LAST MONTH. AFTER HAVING TO RENT A CAR, PAY FOR A TOW, AND NOW I WAIT ENDLESSLY FOR A PART TO FIX A CAR THAT CANT EVEN BE STARTED, I WAS TOLD BY NISSAN THAT THE PART WILL NOT BE COVERED FOR MY CAR UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. I WAS CALLED EACH TO UPDATE ME ON THE POTENTIAL SHIP DATE OF THE PART, ONLY THE NEXT WEEK TO BE CALLED AGAIN TO TELL ME IT MAYBE ANOTHER FEW WEEKS. THIS IS SHAME ON NISSAN, AT LEAST TOYOTA AND HONDA WILL RECALL AND FIX A KNOWN PROBLEM. HOW COULD THIS NOT BE A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN THE YOUR CAR CAN LEAVE YOU STRANDED IN DANGEROUS TEMPERATURES WITHOUT ANY PRIOR NOTICE. *TR
WENT TO WORK PARK THE CAR WITH NO PROBLEMS, CAME OUT OF WORK CAR WOULD NOT START. THOUGHT IT WAS THE BATTERIES IN THE REMOTE DUE TO THE YELLOW LIGHT WITH THE INTELLIGENT KEY ON THE DASH, AND THEN REMEMBER I JUST REPLACED THE BATTERY.THE DOORS WOULD UNLOCK AND LOCK WITH NO PROBLEMS, THE BRAKE PETAL WOULD NOT GO IN. THEN THOUGHT IT WAS THE BATTERY HOOD UP A CHARGER AND IT READ IT WAS ON 70% CHARGED, CALLED THE DEALER THEY TOLD ME TO HAVE IT TOWED IN. THE DEALER CALLED ME THE NEXT DAY AND TOLD ME IT WAS THE STEERING COLUMN, WHEN I ASKED THEM WHY WOULD IT DO THIS THE ONLY ANSWER THEY HAD FOR ME WAS THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR MAKE AND MODEL. WITH THE TOWING AND THE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND THE PART WITH LABOR IT'S COSTING ME OVER 1,000 DOLLARS, THE STANDARD WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER ANY OF THIS, ALL OUT OF POCKET. I JUST GOT RID OF A 2008 GL 450 MERCEDES BENZ, BECAUSE OF HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT, I HAVE A 4 YEAR OLD VISUALLY DISABLED CHILD THAT I AM CONSTANTLY TRAVELING LONG DISTANCES TO MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS SO THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE TO ME. I ALWAYS HAVE LOVED NISSAN AND THIS IS MY 4TH NISSAN AND WAS PLANNING ON PURCHASING A PATHFINDER IN THE FALLTIME. WHEN I PURCHASED THIS CAR I STOOD BY THE DEPENDABILITY OF THE NAME, AND I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED. *TR
STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND CAR WILL NOT START. BATTERY WORKS FINE, INTELLIGENT KEYS WORK FINE, WINDOWS WILL NOT ROLL UP. I HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT TELL THE REASON OF ITS MALFUNCTION SINCE IT WONT START. THEY RAN THEIR TESTS AND CONSULTED THAT IT IS THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKING UNIT. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD COST 750 TO REPLACE. THEY ALSO TOLD ME TO CALL 1800 NISSAN 1 AND FILE A COMPLAINT. I THEN HAD IT TOWED (PAYING OUT OF POCKET THIS TIME) TO MY HOUSE UNTIL I CAN PAY FOR THE PART AND HAVE IT FIXED. IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT NISSAN HAS NOT RECALLED OR EVEN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR OTHER YEAR MODELS, OR AT THE LEAST MAKE SOME KIND OF CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS THE COST OF THEIR OWN MANUFACTURING MISTAKES. INSTEAD, THEY ASSUME THAT THIS SAME ISSUE WILL NOT HAPPEN TO OTHER MODELS. YET WITH RESEARCHING, THERE ARE A PLETHORA OF CUSTOMERS GOING THROUGH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE WITH THE EXACT SAME PART AND GETTING SCREWED. SO MUCH FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY SURELY WILL NOT HAVE MUCH CUSTOMERS IF THEY CONTINUE TO LEAVE THIS ISSUE HANGING DRY. I WILL ASSURE THAT I WILL NOT RECOMMEND OTHERS TO PURCHASE NISSAN VEHICLES. *TR
AFTER LEAVING WORK TO DRIVE HOME, CAR WOULD NOT START, YELLOW KEY SYMBOL WAS ON DASHBOARD. KEY FOB STILL WORKED TO LOCK AND UNLOCK DOORS. CAR BATTERY WAS FINE, HEADLIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS STILL WORKED. CHECKED MANUAL AND IT INDICATED STEERING LOCK MALFUNCTION. HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO NEAREST DEALERSHIP. AFTER WAITING 4 DAYS FOR THE PART TO COME IN, I HAD TO PAY OVER $800 TO HAVE THE PART REPLACED. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN NISSAN NOT COVERING THIS PART BECAUSE OF THE MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE REPORTED THE EXACT SAME ISSUE IN THE 2010 MAXIMA -- EVEN WHEN IT IS A KNOWN AND COVERED PART IN THE 2009 MODEL. *TR

WENT TO GROCERY STORE WITH 2 KIDS (3YRS/2YRS OLD) CAME OUT AND CAR WOULDN'T START. YELLOW KEY LIGHT & RED KEY LIGHT WAS LITE ON DASH. THE CAR WOULD OPEN AND CLOSE WITH KEY FOB BUT CAR STILL WOULDN'T START NEITHER DID IT RECOGNIZE THE KEY FOB WHEN PLACED INTO SLOT. HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP TO LATER FIND OUT A STEERING LOCK MODULE HAD GONE BAD. READ REVIEWS ONLINE ABOUT DIFFERENT YEAR MODELS RECALLED FOR SAME PART #487009N00B BUT NO RECALL ISSUED FOR 2010 MAXIMAS YET SEVERAL PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. REPAIR SHOP AND I CAN NOT GET PART LISTED ABOVE BECAUSE ITS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER WAS TOLD I HAVE TO PAY UPFRONT FOR PART $500 IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON A WAITING LIST AND PART IS ORDERED THEN WOULD HAVE TO WAIT ANYWHERE FROM 40 TO 60 DAYS AND STILL NOT GUARANTEED. CALLED NISSAN ABOUT ISSUE AND THEY CAN NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL THE PART IS ORDERED. CALLED AROUND MYSELF TO FIND PART AND VERY DIFFICULT. IF THIS PART WAS AN ISSUE & RECALLED PREVIOUSLY WHY DID THEY CONTINUE TO USE IT? AND NO ALTERNATE PART HAS BEEN MADE TO REPLACE EXISTING PART. IM GETTING THE RAW END OF THE STICK HANDED TO ME. 1ST TO PAY OUT OF POCKET WITH NO GUARANTEE OF THE PART 2ND TO HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE CAR TOWED 3RD FOR THE PART BEING ON NATIONAL BACKORDER. I DONT EXPECT A CAR WITH 52,000 MILES TO GIVE ME ISSUES LIKE THIS & NOT BE COVERED BEING THAT'S ITS A KNOWN PROBLEM. IM VERY FRUSTRATED AT THIS POINT. YESTERDAY I WENT INTO A STORE, CAME OUT TO FIND OUT MY ELECTRONIC STEERING LOCK WENT UP WITHOUT WARNING. ITS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE AND IS HAPPENING TO 1000S OF PEOPLE. I BEEN TOLD NISSAN IS FULLY AWARE OF THE ISSUE, BUT IS ONLY GOING TO TAKE CARE OF THE 2009 MODELS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW A MAJOR COMPANY SUCH AS NISSAN WOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS AND NOT TAKE CARE OF EVERYONE HAVING THIS ISSUE. IT'S NOT A DRIVER ERROR, IT'S A FACTORY ERROR AND NISSAN SHOULD TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START OR MOVE DUE TO THE MALFUNCTIONED ELECTRONICS STEERING COLUMN LOCK CONTROL ASSEMBLY. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE PART WAS ON BACK-ORDER DUE TO THE FACT THAT MANY NISSAN 2009 AND 2010 MODELS HAVING THIS SAME EXACT ISSUE. HAD TO WAIT FOR FIVE DAYS TO GET IT REPAIRED, AND NO LOANER CAR WAS PROVIDED. THE REPAIR COST WAS OVER $800. THE VEHICLE IS LESS THAN THREE YEARS OLD AND HAS ONLY 45000 MILES ON IT. THIS SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MANY ALTIMAS, MAXIMAS, AND 370ZS... NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT EXTENDED WARRANTY ON ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK (ESCL) ONLY FOR 2009 ALTIMAS AND MAXIMAS. THIS IS DEFINITELY A DESIGN FLOW ON THE PART OF NISSAN AND AS SUCH SHOULD BE COVERED BY EXTENDED WARRANTY OR RECALL FOR 2010 MODELS AS WELL. *TR
WENT TO START VEHICLE, AND NOTHING HAPPENED. THE VEHICLE WONT EVEN TURN ON, THE KEY FOB BATTER WAS REPLACED AND SAME THING HAPPENED. THE ORANGE KEY LIGHT TURNED ON IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. AFTER TALKING WITH SEVERAL MECHANICS AND SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT NISSAN DEALERSHIP. I WAS INFORMED IT WAS THE STEERING LOCK, APPARENTLY IT IS A COMMON ISSUE.

ON DECEMBER 27, 2013, I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 60 MPH. IN THE MIDST OF PASSING A VEHICLE, THE CAR STALLED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE HAD TO SLOW DOWN AND ALLOW ME TO GET IN FRONT OF IT BECAUSE BY NOW AN ONCOMING CAR WAS APPROACHING. I PULLED OVER. I TALKED TO MY TRUSTED CAR REPAIR PERSONS AND ONE MECHANIC. IT WAS THOUGHT TO BE BAD GAS. AFTER PUTTING A GAS TREATMENT IN THE CAR, IT RAN TWO MONTHS JUST FINE. WELL, IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS BEGINNING ON MARCH 8, 2014, MY DAUGHTER WAS TAKING MY VEHICLE TO GET AN OIL CHANGE TO NISSAN IN BOSSIER, LA (CLOSEST DEALERSHIP TO MY SMALL HOMETOWN). SHE DROVE ABOUT 13 MILES AND IN THE MIDST OF PASSING A VEHICLE THE CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER AGAIN. SHE PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL BUT TO NO AVAIL. ONLY THIS TIME, NOT ONLY DID IT DECELERATE BUT IT QUIT ALTOGETHER. THE CAR DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO CLEAR THE HIGHWAY COMPLETELY, IT HAD TO BE PUSHED. THE CAR WOULD CRANK BUT GO DEAD IMMEDIATELY. AFTER 5 TRIES, IT WOULD NOT START. AGAIN, I ADDED A GAS TREATMENT AND AFTER 5 TO 10 MINUTES, THE CAR STARTED. I TOOK IT TO NISSAN TO GET AN OIL CHANGE. ON THE WAY HOME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ON TUESDAY, MARCH 11, 2014, I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO BOSSIER TO NISSAN. I GOT MY TIRES ROTATED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT INVESTIGATED. THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WHEN THEY RAN THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THEY TOLD ME EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND TO BRING IT BACK IF THE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN. WELL ON FRIDAY, I TOOK IT BACK BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. NISSAN TECHNICIANS CHECK THE CAR AND SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE. WELL, ON SUNDAY, MARCH 16, 2014, I WAS ON MY CAR HOME. WHEN ENTERING ONTO I-220, THE CAR DROVE FINE FOR A FEW MILES THEN IT BEGAN TO LOSE ACCELERATION. AT THIS VERY MOMENT MY CAR IS AT THE DEALERSHIP. I AM INVESTIGATING THIS MATTER BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT MY LIFE OR ANYONE ELSE''S LIFE ALTERED OR LOST. *TR
TODAY WHEN I INTO MY CAR AND THE CAR WOULDN'T START. I NOTICED THE YELLOW "KEY" INDICATOR IS ON, AND THE INTELLIGENT KEY WILL ONLY LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DOORS. I TRIED TO START THE CAR BY PLACING THE INTELLIGENT KEY IN THE MANUAL START PORT, BUT THE PUSH BUTTON IGNITION STAYS ("READS") IN THE LOCKED POSITION, AND THE LCD SHOWS AN IMAGE THAT APPEARS TO BE TELLING ME TO PULL THE KEY OUT OF THE PORT.THE STEERING WHEEL ITSELF IS NOT LOCKED, HOWEVER. I CAN ACTUALLY MOVE IT BACK AND FORTH, BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL NOT PRESS VERY FAR DOWN. AFTER GOGGELING SEVERAL THREADS CAME UP ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE A 09-10 MAXIMA HAVE THE SAME ISSUES BUT NISSAN IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT. SAID TO SAY IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY KNOW THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN BUT THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE LIFE OF THEIR CONSUMERS. IM A SINGLE MOTHER OF 2 AND IM SO HURT ABOUT THE LACK OF QUALITY NISSAN IS MAKING. *TR

THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO ACTIVATION OF THE IGNITION SYSTEM. AFTER FOLLOWING ALL TROUBLE SHOOTING ADVICE IN THE CAR'S MANUAL, I TOWED THE CAR TO DEALER WHERE THEY FLAGGED AN ISSUE WITH THE STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (PART# 487009N00B) AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS ALL PART OF THE VEHICLE ANTI-THEFT IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM. THE COST TO REPLACE THIS UNIT WAS $703.43. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY FLAW IN THE 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA. 1. THIS WAS A FULLY FUNCTIONING CAR (EXCEPT FOR ANTI-THEFT CIRCUIT GLITCH) THAT LEFT MY PREGNANT WIFE STRANDED IN FREEZING TEMPS IN AN EMPTY SCHOOL PARKING LOT LATE IN THE EVENING. 2. NISSAN PROMOTES HOW SAFE, RELIABLE AND ECONOMICAL THEIR CARS ARE, BUT THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM CAN DISABLE THE VEHICLE LEAVING DRIVER STRANDED WITH ONLY ONE OPTION, WHICH IS, TO BE TOWED TO A DEALER BECAUSE OF ANT-THEFT SYSTEM GLITCHES. 3. THE CAR, BEING ECONOMICAL, SHOULD NOT REQUIRE SUCH AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR BECAUSE OF AN ANTI-THEFT DEVICE CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION. 4. THERE ARE SEVERAL CONDITIONS THAT CAN OCCUR THAT WILL RESULT IN THE NISSAN MAXIMA BECOMING IMMOBILIZED STRANDING DRIVERS. I AM STATING ONLY ONE. THIS IS PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY TO FEMALE DRIVERS. 5. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM I FOUND THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS ACTUALLY ISSUED FOR THE 2009 ALTIMA'S FOR THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. I CALLED NISSAN AND THEY WERE HAPPY TO OPEN A CASE FOR ME AND FORWARD IT TO THE CORPORATE OFFICE TO SEE IF I COULD GET REIMBURSED SINCE THIS IS A COMMON AND KNOWN PROBLEM. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR AS A PRECAUTION BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG WAS PERFORMING ACCORDING TO STANDARDS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
I CAME OUT TO MY CAR AND THE STEERING WAS LOCKED. I WAS UNABLE TO START MY CAR WHICH LEFT ME STRANDED IN A PARKING DECK. AFTER SPENDING $140 TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT HELP ME UNLESS IT WAS BROUGHT IN, THEY SAID THAT IT WAS THE STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THE PART WAS BACK ORDER UNTIL SOMETIME IN FEBRUARY, BUT THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHEN, AND THAT IT WOULD COST $700+. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR MAXIMAS 2009+, 370Z, AND GT-R MODELS THAT ALL USE THE SAME FAULTY PART. THEY ARE CHARGING OVER $500 FOR THE PART AND 4 HOURS OF LABOR WHEN IT ACTUALLY TAKES ONLY 15 MIN TO REPAIR. THIS PART NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BY NISSAN. MY SERVICE GUY SAID THAT I AM THE 3RD PERSON TO HAVE THIS ISSUE JUST THIS WEEK. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!! *TR

AFTER RESEARCHING THIS I NOTICE THOUSANDS OF NISSAN OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BE STRANDED WHERE EVER YOU SHUT IT OFF AT. I PURCHASED MY MAXIMA 2010 THAT CAME WITH THE SPORTS PACKAGE, USED BACK IN SEPTEMBER OF 2011. FROM THE DAY I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS ALWAYS SHAKEN WHEN I BREAK ON THE HIGHWAY FROM DRIVING 60 MILES OR OVER. ON NOVEMBER OF 2012, MY NISSAN MAXIMA 2010 PUSH START BUTTON WOULD NOT START. I HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO A NEAREST NISSAN DEALER. THEY WANTED TO REPLACE THE WHOLE STEERING WHEEL ($700) BECAUSE THEIR DEFENSE IS DUE TO WEAR AND TEAR. IS THIS REALLY POSSIBLE ON A FAIRLY NEW CAR BECAUSE MY HONDAS,SINCE 2004, HAD NEVER HAD TO HAVE THE STEERING WHEEL REPLACED. THIS IS NOT A SAFETY COMPLAINT. HOWEVER, I PURCHASED THIS 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA ONE YEAR AGO. ABOUT ONE MONTH AFTER I PURCHASED IT, THE PAINT STARTED CHIPPING OFF THE BUMPER AND NOW IT LOOKS TERRIBLE. NISSAN MAXIMA 2010 - SPORT EDITION. THE CVT TRANSMISSION EXHIBITS SEVERE LOSE OF POWER ON 75MPH ROADWAY DRIVING BETWEEN PHOENIX AND FLAGSTAFF ARIZONA, UP ELEVATION. LACK OF POWER IS PRESENT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AS WELL. ON 75 MPH HIGHWAYS THE CVT BEGINS TO WHINE, THE ENGINE HAS HIGH RPM, LOUD WHINING NOISE FROM CVT, AND CAR GETS STUCK IN 6TH GEAR IN BOTH MANUAL SHIFT MODE AND DRIVE MODE. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE OR MAINTAIN SPEED WITH OTHER VEHICLES AT THE POSTED 75 MPH SPEED LIMIT. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT GIVE A CODE BUT ONCE GAVE A P1778 CODE - FAULTY SOLENOID OR STEP UP MOTOR. THIS ISSUE OCCURS FREQUENTLY WITHIN CITY DRIVING AS WELL, IN ADDITION TO HIGH SPEED HIGHWAYS ON LONG DRIVES OVER HILLY ROADS CLIMBING UP ELEVATION. IN CITY DRIVING THE CVT WILL NOT RESPOND WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED LEAVING THE VEHICLE IN THE CENTER OF TRAFFIC WHEN ENTERING A BUSY HIGHWAY. AT OTHER TIMES THE VEHICLE IS ABLE TO ACCELERATE DRAMATICALLY (NORMAL) TO THE SPEED OF CARS ON A BUSY MAIN STREET (55MPH). AND, THEN SUDDENLY THE CAR JUST LACKS POWER WHEN ENTERING A BUSY 3-4 LANE STREET (55 MPH) AND YOU FIND YOURSELF IN THE MIDDLE OF BUSY 3-4 LANE STREET WITH APPROACHING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE IS BARELY ABLE TO GET ITSELF OUT OF THE WAY AT FULL THROTTLE. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORST AND DID NOT OCCUR WHEN THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW. CVT FLUID WAS CHANGED AT 44,000 MILES PRIOR TO NISSAN RECOMMENDATION. THIS CVT TRANSMISSION SUCKS AND THE DEALERSHIPS ARE GIVING CUSTOMERS A HARD TIME SINCE THE PROBLEM DOESN'T NOT GIVE A ENGINE TROUBLE CODE. THE CODE P1778 EVENTUALLY IS CLEARED FROM THE COMPUTER ON ITS OWN WHEN IT DOES OCCUR. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS CVT TRANSMISSION PERSISTS AND IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY FAIL TO ACCELERATE AND MAINTAIN THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT DURING CITY DRIVING AND ON HIGH SPEED HIGHWAYS. *TR
