CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF HIGHWAY AND WOULD MOVE AND STALL ALL OF A SUDDEN. CAR MECHANIC INDICATED THE CODE IS P0776 INDICATING DEFECTIVE CVT TRANSMISSION. NISSAN HAS NOT RECALLED THIS TRANSMISSION AND I AM OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS IS A DEFECT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AS THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS DUE TO THE SAME INCIDENT ON THESE TRANSMISSIONS. *TR
YESTERDAY AFTER WORK, I OPENED THE HATCH TO THE BACK OF MY VEHICLE TO REMOVE JUMPER CABLES. WHEN I WENT TO CLOSE THE HATCH DOOR, IT WOULD NOT STAY CLOSED. I LOOKED CLOSER AT THE MECHANISM THAT LOCKS THE DOOR IN THE CLOSED POSITION, AND IT WAS NOT MOVING BACK INTO THE PROPER POSITION. I THOUGHT INITIALLY IT WAS DUE TO THE COLD WEATHER, BUT EVEN AFTER IT WAS GIVEN TIME TO HEAT UP IT CONTINUED TO STAY IN THE OPEN POSITION. I MADE DUE BY DUCT TAPING THE HATCH CLOSED TO MAKE IT HOME. I LOOKED ONLINE AND SAW THAT THOUSANDS OF OTHER MURANO OWNERS HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THEIR LOCK ACTUATORS ON DOORS, HATCHES AND EVEN THE GAS COVER ACTUATOR. IT IS EXTREMELY CONCERNING TO ME DUE TO THE OBVIOUS SAFETY HAZARDS THAT ACCOMPANY THIS MALFUNCTION. *TR
MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE TRANSMISSION MADE A GRINDING SOUND WHEN PUSHING DOWN THE ACCELERATOR AND LOST MOST OF ITS ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AT ALL AND THEN STARTED LURCHING FORWARD ROCKING THE WHOLE VEHICLE BACK AND FOURTH. I TOOK IT TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM ,I EVEN LEFT IT OVER NIGHT SO THEY COULD TEST IT IN HOT AND COLD CONDITIONS. THE DEALER CALLED ME THE NEXT DAY AND TOLD ME IT WASN'T THE TRANSMISSION BUT TWO DRIVE BELTS,FRONT RIGHT BEARING AND STRUT CAP THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I REFUSED THE WORK AT THE NISSAN DEALER AND TOOK IT TO A (ASE MECHANIC) FRIEND WHO ORDERED ALL FACTORY NISSAN PARTS AND INSTALLED THEM. NEEDLESS TO SAY AFTER READING ALL THE OTHER PROBLEMS OTHER 04 NISSAN MURANO OWNERS ARE HAVING, I AM STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CAR MAKES A LOUD GRINDING SOUND LOOSES POWER AND IS ROCKING BACK FORWARD CAUSING THE WHOLE VEHICLE TO LEAP FORWARD IF YOU LET OFF THE BRAKES. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT WITHOUT A CHECK ENGINE CODE THEY COULD DO NOTHING FOR ME. I HAVE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE AND WORRY ABOUT MY SAFETY AS WELL AS FOR OTHERS AROUND THE VEHICLE. I LIVE NEXT TO TWO ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND HAVE TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY DAILY. WHY ISN'T NISSAN BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ISSUES THAT SHOULD BE RECALLS?.I HAVE EVERY SERVICE RECORD FOR THE VEHICLE WITH ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE LOGGED WITH RECEIPTS. IT SEEMS LIKE THE DEALERSHIPS HAVE ALL COME UP WITH DIFFERENT WAYS OF NOT ADDRESSING THE ISSUE. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN TO ME ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OF 60MPH IT COULD CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT,GOD FORBID EVEN LIFE THREATENING. THE COST TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE WILL EXCEED THE VALUE OF THE CAR THUS TOTALING THE VEHICLE. PLEASE HELP!!! I DON'T WANT TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR DEFECTS THAT COULD BE AVOIDED! *TR
THE HEATER CORE IS CAUSING A PROBLEM WITH THE WINDSHIELD. NO ONE SELLS THE REPLACMENT PART BUT THE DEALER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE HESITATED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AND THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES, MY CAR WON'T REACT TO MY GAS PEDAL. IT HESITATES, THEN LURCHES BEFORE FINALLY CATCHING UP TO SPEED. I'VE GONE ONLINE AND FOUND THAT COUNTLESS MURANO OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME FRONT TRANSFER CASE PROBLEMS IN THEIR LATE MODEL CARS AND THAT NISSAN REFUSES TO DO A RECALL ALTHOUGH TOYOTA HAS FOR SIMILAR ISSUES. THIS IS A DEFECT WHICH THEY APPARENTLY CORRECTED IN THEIR NEWER MODELS, BUT CONTINUES TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR THOSE OF US WHO OWN 2004 MODELS OR OLDER.
I BOUGHT THE 2004 MURANO IN DECEMBER OF 2013. FROM DAY ONE PROBLEMS WITH SHAKING WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 12 TIMES SINCE THEN. IT HAD TRANSMISSION FAILURE TWICE NOW. FIRST TIME THEY FOUND METAL DEBRIS IN THERE. THE SECOND TIME WAS JUST OVER THE WARRANTY FROM FIRST TIME BY A FEW HUNDRED MILES! RIGHT AFTER THAT THE RIGHT BACK BRAKE CALIPER WAS BINDING SO THAT WAS REPLACED. SO FAR THEY HAVE PUT ON NEW TIRES, A FEW WEEKS AFTER THAT THEY BALANCED THEM THINKING THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. HAD TO REPLACE AXLE SHAFT CARRIER BEARING, I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN RID OF IT AFTER THE FIRST TRANSMISSION FAILURE!!! *TR
WELL I WAS DRIVING REGULAR TO HEAVY TRAFFIC TRANSMISSION JUST LOCKED ON ME CAR STARTED SHAKING HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE AFTER OTHER DRIVER'S STOP TO TRY TO HELP THE CAR TURNS ON BUT WHEN YOU GET TO 40 IT STARTS JERKING AND WONT SHIFT I TOOK IT TO MECHANIC SHOPS THEY PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER AND NOTHING COMES UP HE RAN IT FOR A WHILE AND IT RAN OK. AGAIN A DAY LATER IM ON MY WAY TO WORK AND IT DID IT AGAIN THIS TIME I ALMOST GOT HIT FROM BEHIND AT THIS POINT IM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR. SOME ONE PLEASE HELP ME I HAVE 3 SMALL CHILDREN THAT COMMUTE WITH ME AND IM SCARED THAT WE WILL GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. IS ANYONE AWARE OF ANY FACTORY DEFECTS ON THESE MURANOS? *TR
THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR RANDOMLY DROPS DOWN WHILE DRIVING. NISSAN WANTS 400.00 TO REPLACE THE SUN VISOR. THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE. I HAVE GONE ONLINE THERE ARE 100'S OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE 2004 NISSAN MURANO'S SUNVISOR. I WANT TO ISSUE A FORMAL COMPLIANT ABOUT THIS VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM! THIS HAPPENS DAILY. *TR
INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING FAILURE. MANY COMPLAINTS FILED ABOUT THIS ISSUE.
AT 90,000MI NEEDED MOTOR MOUNTS, CONTROL ARMS, AND FRONT END IS STILL NOTHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT. IT WON'T TAKE GAS AND IT BUCKS. *TR
THE DRIVER SEAT BRACKET BROKE ON THE LEFT SIDE. THE SEAT NOW TILTS TO THE LEFT. WHEN DISCOVERED VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND NOT USED. ON THAT DAY I JUST SIT IN THE CAR AND SEAT TILTED TO THE LEFT. LOOKED UNDER NEAT THE SEAT AND SAW THAT THE MEAT BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE SEAT BROKE IN TWO. THIS IS SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR ME AS A DRIVER. I AM JUST GLAD THAT THE BRACKET DID NOT BREAK WHILE DRIVING THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. READ SEVERAL FORUMS ON INTERNET WHERE PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT SAME PROBLEM. THE DRIVER'S SEAT ADJUSTMENTS ARE NO LONGER WORKING. IT APPEARS THE TRACK ON THE LEFT OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT IS STUCK THEREFORE THE SEAT IS STUCK IN A SLIGHT SIDEWAYS POSITION. *TR
MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO CONKED OUT WHILE MAKING A TURN ON A BUSY CHICAGO INTERSECTION. THE CVT WAS THE CULPRIT. NISSAN KNOWS THERE IS DESIGN FLAW WITH THIS TRANSMISSION AND EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS/100K WHICH EVER COMES FIRST. UNFORTUNATELY MY CAR EXCEEDED THE MILEAGE. AFTER 2 TOWS AND MORE THAN A WEEK AT THE DEALER, I RECEIVED A BILL FOR OVER 4K. NISSAN KNEW OF THIS PROBLEM FROM THE GET GO. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL DUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUE. THERE IS NO WAY OF BEING PREPARED FOR THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT. CONSUMERS SHOULD BE PROTECTED. *LN *TR
I PURCHASED A USED 2004 NISSAN MURANO IN AUGUST 2013 AS IS, AND UNAWARE OF ANY ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. I TRANSPORT DISABLED PEOPLE IN MY VEHICLE, AS PART OF MY JOB. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR I WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN IN AN INTERSECTION ON A YELLOW FLASHING ARROW WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC DOING SPEEDS OF 50 MPH, WHEN SUDDENLY AS I PUSHED DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL, I HAD NO POWER AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. IN A PANIC I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND NOTHING, BUT THEN SUDDENLY THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD AND TOOK OFF AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THIS WAS TERRIFYING AND I HAD 2 DISABLED PEOPLE IN MY CAR AT THE TIME. I WAS SO SCARED.! THE CAR SEEMED TO DRIVE FINE AFTER THAT FOR A COUPLE MORE WEEKS, AND THEN SUDDENLY WITH NO WARNING AFTER TURNING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC DOING ABOUT 35MPH, THE VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN DID THE SAME THING. I TOOK IT TO A NISSAN DEALER AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND THEY SAID WITHOUT A CODE SHOWING THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE, THAT COULD LEAD TO PEOPLE BEING SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED, AND YET THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS VERY SPORADIC WHEN IT HAPPENS, AND YOU DON'T GET ANY WARNING IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN! I AM NOW MAKING A PAYMENT ON A CAR, THAT I AM SCARED TO DRIVE, AND MORE SO TRANSPORT DISABLED PEOPLE IN, SO I HAVE ELECTED TO PARK THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE MY KIA. THIS IS NOT RIGHT, OR FAIR. AND AFTER READING POSTS ONLINE ABOUT THIS ISSUE, IT IS A VERY WE'LL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS, AND YET NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT. I GOT IN MY MURANO, STARTED IT, AND BEGAN TO DRIVE. SUDDENLY, THE LEFT SIDE OF MY SEAT DROPPED SEVERAL INCHES (ABOUT 5 OR 6 INCHES). THIS DROP CREATED A JERK TO THE LEFT. UPON INSPECTION OF THE UNDERSIDE OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT I FOUND THE SUPPORT BRACKET TO BE BROKEN (CRACKED IN BOTH SUPPORT POINTS). *TR
WHEN DRIVING MY NISSAN MURANO ESPECIALLY ON HOT DAYS/IN STOP & GO TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE FAILS TO RESPOND TO THE DEPRESSION OF THE ACCELERATOR. WHEN IT HAPPENS (4X/WEEK), THE VEHICLE WILL BE AT A COMPLETE STOP & NOT BEGIN TO ACCELERATE AFTER DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR UNTIL AROUND 3K RPMS. THE PROBLEM IS RESOLVED BY CYCLING THE VEHICLE OFF THEN ON, GIVEN THAT THE DRIVING CONDITIONS DON'T REMAIN IN THE FORM WHICH APPEARED TO INITIATE THE INCIDENT. IN A FEW INSTANCE THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT RUNNING, WITH THE A/C ON WHILE I MADE A QUICK RUN INTO A CONVIENENCE STORE. AFTER BACKING OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE WITHOUT A PROBLEM, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED IT'S SLIGHT HESITATION WHILE IN DRIVE, BUT THEN LURCHED FORWARD AT ~3K RPMS, AND ACQUIRED THE DESIRED SPEED AND MANUEVERS. AFTER WAITING AT THE LIGHT JUST OUTSIDE OF THE PARKING LOT, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE DEPRESSION OF THE ACCELERATOR IN THE FORM OF MOVEMENT. THAT IS, THE ENGINE WOULD REV TO AS MUCH AS 5K RPMS, BUT NOT MOVE MORE THE .5-1MPH. THE USUAL CYCLING OF THE ENGINE OFF & THEN ON, WOULD NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE NEXT DESTINATION WAS NEARBY (1MI.) & DOWNHILL, SO I WAS ABLE TO COAST, IN NEUTRAL, TO THAT LOCATION WHILST BEING HONKED AT & NEARLY REAR-ENDED BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD SAT AT THAT LOCATION FOR ~3HRS, THERE WERE NO OTHER PROBLEMS OF THE LIKE. VEHICLE ALSO LOOSES ACCELERATION WHILE ON HIGHWAY. *TR
THERE WAS A STRUCTURAL FAILURE OF THE ANCHOR/BRACKET UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER'S SEAT. WHILE I AM DRIVING, THE SEAT ROCKS FROM SIDE TO SIDE, AND DIPS UP AND DOWN. WHEN I TURN, THE SEAT ROCKS A COUPLE OF INCHES DOWN AND THEN POPS BACK AS I COME OUT OF THE TURN. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND, SUDDENLY THE CAR SLOW DOWN BY ITSELF IN THE RESIDENCE AREA. SHE MANAGED TO MOVE THE CAR OUT OF THE ROAD. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE VERY LOUD NOISE AND BEGAN TO STALL. HAD TO BE TOWED TO MECHANIC AT WHICH TIME IT WAS DETERMINED THE TRANSFER CASE WAS CRACKED. AS I RESEARCHED THIS, I DISCOVERED NUMEROUS MURANO OWNERS WITH THIS ISSUE. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 69,000 MILES AND THE COST TO REPAIR $4000.00! *TR
WHEN VEHICLE IS DRIVEN A BIT THE TRANSMISSION HAS NO POWER ON STARTUP AT LIGHT. YOU HAVE TO PUMP THE ACCELERATOR SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE REGAINING POWER. AFTER THIS IS HAPPENED THE TRANSMISSION LOOSES POWER AT ALL DIFFERENT SPEEDS. THIS IS TRULY UNSAFE AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT ON A FREEWAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THOSE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGNAL AND THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED AFTER SHIFTING INTO PARK AND THEN DRIVE. THE FAILURE RECURRED FIVE TIMES WHILE THE CONTACT WAS SITTING AT A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOOR HANDLE FAILED AND BECAME DETACHED FROM THE DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
BELT TENSIONER PULLEY ASSEMBLY GETS RUSTED AND BREAKS OVER TIME CAUSING THE SERPENTINE BELT TO BREAK DURING DRIVING POSSIBLY BREAKING POWER STEERING PUMP BELT IN THE PROCESS. STEERING WILL FREEZE OR BECOME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT CAUSING STEERING FAILURE AND AN ACCIDENT. *TR
TRANSMISSION HAS DEFECTIVE SEAL BETWEEN IT AND TRANSFER CASE CAUSING GEAR OIL TO LEAK OUT AND FAILURE TO COMPONENTS. CAN CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL AND STALLING WHILE IN TRAFFIC WITH POTENTIAL TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT OR CRASH. *TR
VEHICLE HAD NO ACCELERATION. WHEN IDLING AT A LIGHT AND THEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THERE WAS A 3 OR 4 SECOND DELAY BEFORE THE VEHICLE MOVED. ACCELERATION WAS VERY SLUGGISH FOR THE NEXT 5 MINUTES AND THEN THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT 6 WEEKS LATER. VEHICLE IDLED SMOOTHLY. ENGINE RAN FINE, JUST NO ACCELERATION. *TR
THERE WAS A STRUCTURAL FAILURE OF THE ANCHOR/BRACKET UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER'S SEAT. WHILE I AM DRIVING, THE SEAT ROCKS FROM SIDE TO SIDE, AND DIPS UP AND DOWN. I HAVING BEEN DRIVING ABOUT 50 MPH AND TRY TO ACCELERATE TO 65 AND THE ENGINE IS STRUGGLING TO GET UP TO SPEED. I ALSO PARKED IN A PARKING STALL AND COULD NOT GET IT INTO PARK IT WAS STUCK BETWEEN DRIVE AND NEUTRAL. I HAD TO TRY SEVERAL TIMES TO GET IT INTO PARK. I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO PARK. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS TRANSMISSION FOR A 2004 MURANO. ALL THE REVIEWS SHOW THAT THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION FOR THIS YEAR I NOW HAVE TO PAY OVER $3000 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. IS THIS GOING TO BE PROBLEMS WITH MY NEW TRANSMISSION? *TR
THE FIRST TIME THAT THIS ISSUE HAPPENED I WAS DRIVING DOWN A MOUNTAIN WITH LOTS OF CURVES WHEN THE CAR LOST POWER. I WOULD PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT RESPOND AS I STARTED TO HEAD INTO A CURVE ALL THE LIGHTS IN MY CENTER CONSOLE CAME ON AND THE CAR SHUT ITSELF OFF. I QUICKLY PROCEEDED TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL WITH ONE HAND AND WITH THE OTHER ON THE STEERING WHEEL DRIVING THE VEHICLE AS I WAS GOING AROUND A SHARP CURVE. I WAS ABLE TO START IT UP AGAIN BUT THIS WAS IN MY OPINION VERY DANGEROUS. I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT THE ISSUE. SOME MONTHS LATER I WAS DRIVING AROUND TOWN AND MY MURANO WOULD NOT MOVE EVEN THOUGH I WAS PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR I PULLED OVER TO INSPECT THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT TO SEE IF I COULD FINED THE PROBLEM. FINALLY AFTER ABOUT 45 MIN. IT REGAINED THE ABILITY TO MOVE AGAIN. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO DIFFERENT MECHANICS BUT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET A CODE FOR THIS PROBLEM AND ALL I KEEP HEARING FROM THEM IS TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT UNTIL IT GETS WORSE. AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET, SEVERAL THOUSAND CASES OF LEAKING OR FAILING TRANSFER CASES HAVE BEEN FOUND FOR THIS VEHICLE AND NISSAN HAS IGNORED ALL INSTANCES TO AVOID A RECALL. PLUS, THEY ARE CHARGING $4225 FOR A PART THAT MAKES UP THE TRANSMISSION USING A TECHNICALITY TO AVOID REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE PART. *TR

CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL, NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I WAS ABLE TO GET CAR TO SIDE OF FREEWAY. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED CAR. CAR RAN NORMALLY. IN READING OTHER REPORTS ON THE INTERNET THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE 2003 AND 2004 MURANO TRANSMISSIONS AND OR TRANSFER CASES. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS.
