TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR FAILED TO RESPOND TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE ERRONEOUSLY DECELERATED WHILE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS BEING DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
A RECURRING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT PROBLEM, HESITATION ON ACCELERATION AFTER SITTING IN TRAFFIC FOR A WHILE, POOR IDLING, AND THE EVEN A COMPLETE SHUTOFF WHILE MY GIRLFRIEND WAS DRIVING AND MY TWO DAUGHTERS AS PASSENGERS. THE CARS HAS COMPLETED SHUTOFF TWICE WHILE DRIVING. ONCE WHILE TURNING LEFT AT LOW SPEED AND THE OTHER ONE WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
THEY ARE TELLING ME I HAVE TO REPLACE MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER, BECAUSE IT IS A GOVERNMENT REQUIREMENT. THIS IS COSTING 3300.00. LOOKING ONLINE, SOME CARS, THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS PART WHY WASN'T THERE ONE ON THIS CAR IF IT IS HAVING TO BE REPLACED? 2004 NISSAN MURANO. DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR SUDDENLY FLOPPED DOWN AND BLOCKED MY WIFE'S VIEW OF THE ROAD. IT WILL NOT STAY UP. AFTER LISTENING TO HER COMPLAINTS FOR WEEKS, I FINALLY TOOK IT THE DEALERSHIP TO GET A NEW ONE. THEY WANT $182.59 PLUS TAX JUST FOR THE PART! THAT DOESN'T EVEN INCLUDE LABOR TO INSTALL. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME I WAS LUCKY BECAUSE IT USED TO COST $425. THAT IS LUDICROUS! I HAVE FOUND DOZENS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THIS VERY WEBSITE. IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND IT IS OBVIOUSLY A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM. I DIDN'T REALIZE HOW MUCH IT AFFECTED YOUR DRIVING UNTIL I DROVE IT TODAY. I OWN A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR LESS THAN A YEAR (9MONTHS) AND IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS I HAVE NOTICED MULTIPLE ISSUES...BOTH MY FRONT WINDOWS ROLL DOWN AUTOMATICALLY AFTER THE CAR IS TURNED OFF, THE TEMP GAUGE ON THE MIRROR FLASHES 100 DEGREES, LASTLY-THE MOST CONCERNING IS MY STEERING! I HEARD POPPING FOR MONTHS AND MONTHS, BUT MOST RECENTLY I COULD FEEL THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT. I THOUGHT AT FIRST IT WAS BECAUSE OF ALL THE RAIN WE HAD SOME HIGH WATER OVER OUR ROAD, BUT IT CONTINUED. MY BROTHER IS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND HE ADDED FLUID TO IT WHICH HELPED FOR A DAY OR TWO THEN IT WENT RIGHT BACK TO BEING HARD TO STEER, MOSTLY TURNING LEFT SOME RIGHT.WE WERE DRIVING OVER A BRIDGE WHEN WE CROSSED THE BRIDGE JOINT PASSING ONCOMING TRAFFIC THE WHEEL NEARLY JERKED LEFT OUT OF MY GRIP BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. WE NEARLY HIT ANOTHER CAR AND COULD HAVE WENT THROUGH THE BRIDGE TO THE RIVER BELOW. SCARED US TO DEATH!! WHEN WE LOOKED IT UP IN THE SYSTEM IT SAYS IT MAY BE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM. I'VE LOOKED ONLINE AND HAVE READ MULTIPLE UPON MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS OF THE SAME THING FOR THIS YEAR AND MODEL BUT NO RECALL OR HELP FOR THIS ISSUE BY NISSAN, NOT THE 2004 ANYWAY. MY BROTHER PLANS TO GET UNDER THE CAR AND CHECK IT OUT IN MORE DETAIL BUT IS PRETTY CERTAIN RACK AND PINION MALFUNCTION IS THE PROBLEM. IT'S GONNA BE A SMALL FORTUNE TO PAY FOR! BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY I HAVE TWO CHILDREN UNDER AGE 4 THAT ARE TRANSPORTED DAILY IN THIS VEHICLE AND IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME AND FOR NISSAN. THIS NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR FELL FROM ITS HOUSING, OBSCURING THE DRIVER'S VISION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT HE NEEDED A NEW VISOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
IN 2006 WE RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER ABOUT NISSAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL TANK. WE HAD THE PROTECTION GUARD INSTALLED BY NISSAN AS PER NHTSA RECALL. IN APRIL 2011 WE WERE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND HIT SOMETHING SMALL IN THE ROAD THAT PUNCTURED THE FUEL TANK. THE ITEM WAS SO SMALL NO ONE IN THE CAR SAW IT. THE PROTECTIVE SHIELDING, WHICH WAS A THIN PIECE OF PLASTIC, SHATTERED AND FAILED TO PROTECT THE TANK.
HAVE HAD A PROBLEM OF THE ACCELERATOR HESITATING FROM A COMPLETE STOP AND THEN SUDDENLY GOING FORWARD. WHEN PRESSING GAS PEDAL NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN WHEN ALMOST PRESSING ALL THE WAY AND THEN IT WOULD TAKE OFF. THIS HAPPENED FOR SEVERAL MILES AND THEN WENT BACK TO NORMAL. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ON WED. DEC. 21, 2011. THE GAS PEDAL AGAIN WAS NOT RESPONDING WHEN PRESSED AND I COULD SENSE THAT THE RESPONSE OF THE GAS PEDAL TO THE SPEED OF VEHICLE WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I TOOK TO NISSAN DEALER THE FIRST TIME AND THEY COULD NOT DETECT ANY PROBLEM AND GAVE ME NO REASON WHY THIS MIGHT BE HAPPENING. I FEEL THIS IS DANGEROUS TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THIS AUTO AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD SHOULD THE SPEED OF VEHICLE SUDDENLY CHANGE AND LOSS OF CONTROL OCCUR. *TR
I HAD BROUGHT MY CAR FOR REGULAR SCHEDULED SERVICE WHEN I WAS INFORMED ABOUT TRANSMISSION TRANSFER CASE SEAL REQUIRING REPAIR. IT IS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON AND EXPENSIVE PROBLEMS REGARDING THIS CAR HOWEVER NISSAN REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS DEFECT. *TR

THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE DEALER OR MANUFACTURER NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED OR DIAGNOSED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE DRIVER SIDE SUNVISOR SUDDENLY FELL DOWN STRIKING MY WIFE IN THE FORE HEAD AND CAUSING HER TO RUN OFF THE ROADWAY. SHE WAS SAFELY ABLE TO RE-ENTER THE ROADWAY WITHOUT OVER CORRECTING AND HAVING AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES, FINALLY TO THE POINT THAT I HAVE REMOVED THE SUNVISOR. I HAVE TWIN SEVEN YEAR OLDS WITH AUTISM THAT RIDE IN THIS VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK. I HAVE READ OF SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS OF MURANO'S WITH THE SAME ISSUE. AS A POLICE OFFICER AND PARAMEDIC THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT THE MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO ADDRESS, BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED. *TR
I OWN A 2004 NISSAN MURANO AND HAVE HAD TROUBLES WITH VEHICLE HESITATION . IT IS MOST PRESENT WHEN IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AND THE ENGINE IS WARM. DURING STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, I STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL AND THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN SUDDENLY THE CAR JERKS FORWARD. THIS HAPPEND CONTINIOUSLY OVER THE PAST MONTH. I WOULD LIKE THIS ISSUE TO BE INVESTIGATED AND RECALLED, AS THIS IS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN.
THE CAR WAS DRIVEN ON THE HIGH WAY AT 50 MPH, WHEN IT STARTED TO DECELERATE AND WOULD ONLY GO OVER A MAX SPEED OF 30 MPH. EVEN WITH ACCELERATION, THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 30 MPH. IT WAS DRIVEN TO THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND THEY DECLARED THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND THE ENGINE WAS FAULTY AS WELL. THIS CAR HAS GIVEN US SO MANY PROBLEMS. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME IT HAD STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENTS AND PRESENTING A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR MY FAMILY! THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED!!!!!!!!! SOMETHING MUST BE DONE!
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MURANO WITH A BROKEN DRIVERS SEAT. THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DRIVER SEAT SUPPORT FRAME HAS FATIGUED AND BROKEN. SEVERAL REPAIR SHOPS IN MY AREA HAVE INDICATED THAT THEY WILL NOT TRY TO REPAIR BECAUSE THE GUAGE OF THE METAL SUPPORT IS TOO THIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE AND REFERRED HER TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
NISSAN MURANO TRANSFER CASE OIL SEAL LEAK THE THIRD TIME WITHIN FEW MONTHS. *TR
OUR 2004 NISSAN MURANO BROKE DOWN ABOUT 4 WEEKS AGO ON THE FREEWAY. THERE WERE LOUD GRINDING NOISES, AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 40 MPH. IT WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST NISSAN DEALER, AND IS STILL THERE OVER THREE WEEKS LATER. THE DEALER SAYS IT IS THE TRANSMISSION, AND THAT A NEW TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN ORDERED, BUT IS ON BACK ORDER. WE HAVE CONTACTED THE NISSAN DEALER WHERE WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE, AND THEY SO FAR HAVE NOT TAKEN ANY RESPONSIBILITY. IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE COVERED BY WARRANTY, BUT HAVE BEEN READING ABOUT ALL THE OTHER NISSAN MURANO OWNERS WITH THE SAME TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. OUR NISSAN HAS 64,000 PLUS MILES ON IT. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY NISSAN MURANO TO SCHOOL PULLING ON TO A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY ACCELERATING TO GET UP TO THE SPEED LIMIT WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STARTED TO DECELERATE, SHE WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY A TRAILER TRUCK. SHE HEARD A GRINDING NOISE AND WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO THE MEDIAN TO REMOVE THE VEHICLE FROM TRAFFIC. SHE WAS QUITE SHAKEN BY THE INCIDENT AS WAS I. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR GARAGE ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN PIECES INSIDE THE PAN. I UNDERSTAND BY REVIEWING MANY WEB SITES THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO NUMERUS NISSAN OWNERS. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO BE KILLED BEFORE A RECALL OR A WARNING IS INITIATED? IT APPEARS NISSAN HAS WASHED THEIR HANDS OF THESE DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS AS WELL AS THE BROKEN DRIVER SEAT BRACKETS AND REAR DISC BREAK SLID PINS THAT FREEZE UP AND CAUSE THE CALIPER TO HEAT UP, REAR WHEELS AND ULTIMATELY THE TIRES. IF NISSAN (WHO IS VERY AWARE OF THE DEFECTS) OR NHTSA DOESN'T MAKE NISSAN MURANO OWNERS AWARE OF THE DANGER, SOMEONE WILL HAVE A FATAL ACCIDENT AND IT WILL BE TOO LATE!

THE CONTACT THEN NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CPNTACT PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. THE CONTACT THEN NOTICED THE TRANSFER CASE WAS FRACTURED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSFER CASE WAS FRACTURED AND LEAKING FLUIDS. 2004 NISSAN MURANO SUFFERED COMPLETE STEERING FAILURE. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD TURN FREELY BUT DOES NOT CONTROL THE CAR. THE RESULT WAS A CRASH. THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS IN SIGHT ON A STRAIGHT ROAD TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. THE SUV WENT OFF THE ROAD AND HIT A TREE TOTALING THE VEHICLE AND INJURING DRIVER. AIRBAG INJURIES WERE NOT TOO BAD BUT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE IF TRAVELING AT A HIGHER SPEED. *TR

ON THANKSGIVING OUR 2004 NISSAN MURANO STARTED MAKING A BANGING NOISE. IT CONTINUED TO GET LOUDER AND WITHIN ABOUT FIVE MINUTES THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY IMMOBILIZED. THE CAR SMELLED OF TRANSMISSION FLUID. WE CALLED NISSAN AND THEY INFORMED US THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS COVERED UNDER A 120,000 MILE WARRANTY, WHICH IS WHAT WE THOUGHT IT WAS WITHOUT ANYONE LOOKING AT IT YET. WE HAD IT TOWED TO APPLE NISSAN IN YORK. THE SERVICE MANAGER THEN LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND INFORMED US THAT IT IS THE TRANSFER CASE NOT THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY AND THAT THE COST TO REPAIR IT WOULD BE $4000.00. THE VEHICLE IS STILL AT APPLE NISSAN WITH THE BROKEN TRANSFER CASE BECAUSE WE CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE IT. *TR
TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AND IN THE PROCESS OF PASSING A CAR IN PASSING GEAR THE POWER OF THE CAR STOPPED. WE SLOWED DOWN AND AFTERTHAT EVERYTIME WE WOULD GIVE IT GAS IT WOULD POWER DOWN AGAIN. WE TOOK IT TO A NISSAN DEALER SERVICE CENTER, THEY SAID IT WAS AN ELECTRONIC THROTLE. THEY REPLACED THAT THEN IN LESS THAN 30 DAYS IT DID THE EXACT SAME THING, TOOK IT BACK TO NISSAN THEY SAID IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION, THEY REPLACED THE VALVE COVERS, THEN IN FEBRUARY ON THE WAY TO TEXAS IT DID IT AGAIN ONLY THIS TIME IT WAS MUCH WORSE, IT WOULD POWER DOWN AND YOU COULD CREEEP TO THE EDGE ON THE HIGHWAY. VERY DANGEROUS IN THAT THE POWER STOPS AS YOU ARE DRIVING IN HIGH TRAFFIC AREAS AT THE SPEED OF 60-65. WE LEFT IT AT A NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN GRAPEVINE TEXAS, THEY HAD IT FOR A MONTH AND GUARANTEED THAT THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM, THEY SAID IT WAS A FLOW VALVE. ON THE WAY BACK FROM TEXAS, (13 HOUR) DRIVE IT DID THE EXACT SAME THING AND WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO SANTE FE, NM. WE HAVE SPENT $3,000 AT THIS POINT. NOW I HAVE CONTACTED CORPORATE NISSAN, THEY HAVE TOLD US TO GO GET THE CAR THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. HOWEVER NISSAN KNOWS THAT THE TRANSMISSIONS ARE BAD ON THESE CARS FOR THEY HAVE EXTENDED THE TRANSMISSION WARRANTY TO 120,000. THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION SAYING THAT THE COMPUTER WILL NOT JUSTIFY THE PROBLEM. DO WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL WE ARE IN A CAR WRECK BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM FOR ANYONE TO DO ANYTHNG? SOMONE NEEDS TO MAKE NISSAN TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS! I HAVE HAD MY MURANO IN THE SHOP FOR OVER 50 DAYS TOTAL. WE ARE TOLD THAT NOW NISSAN IS SENDING A TECH, THAT WAS LAST WEEK, HE STILL HAS NOT ARRIVED. WE ARE WANTING TO WARN PEOPLE WHO WON NISSAN TO BE AWARE.
WHILE PULLING AWAY FROM A LIGHT MY SEAT MADE A SNAPPING SOUND. AFTER THAT THE SEAT IS VERY LOOSE AND WOBBLES WHEN MOVED WITH YOUR HAND. AS I MAKE TURNS THE SEAT ROCKS SIDE TO SIDE. *TR
MY WIFE AND I WENT OUT TO GO TO AN APPOINTMENT WHEN THE REMOTE ACCESS KEY DIDN'T WORK. WE TRIED TO USE OUR KEY AND THAT FAILED TO WORK AS WELL. BASICALLY, WE WERE LOCKED OUT OF OUR CAR WITH NO WAY TO GAIN ACCESS TO OUR VEHICLE. TWO HOURS LATER I CAME OUT AND THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WAS OPEN. REMEMBER, TWO HOURS AGO WE WERE LOCKED OUT AND NOW ONLY THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR IS UNLOCKED WITHOUT ME DOING ANYTHING TO IT. SO I TEST THE DOOR WITH THE MANUAL KEY TO SEE IF IT ALL WORKS AND BY SOME MIRACLE IT DOES. BUT ONCE AGAIN, THE REMOTE KEY DOESN'T WORK. THE WIFE TOOK IT APART AND RE-ASSEMBLED IT AND THEN IT WORKED. THIS FEELS LIKE IT WILL BECOME A HUGE PROBLEM AND I'VE READ REPORTS OF THE SAME CATEGORY OF NISSAN MURANO FAILURES AND AM AFRAID OF AN EMERGENCY WHERE THE DOOR NEEDS TO BE OPENED AND IT CAN'T BE IN A RELIABLE TIME FRAME. *TR
DRIVER SEAT HAS SKIPPED AND/OR BROKEN OFF THE LEFT TRACK CAUSING THE SEAT TO ROCK DANGEROUSLY. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS VEHICLE I'VE SEEN AND SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM FIXED BY NISSAN FOR THE FAULTY SEAT TRACK MECHANISM. THIS IS CLEARLY AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION. FORTUNATELY, I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO TEMPORARILY RE-SEAT ONTO THE TRACK WITH THE FOLLOWING METHOD - BY RAISING THE SEAT TO IT'S HIGHEST LEVEL AND MOVING IT BACK TO IT'S FARTHEST POINT THEN DROPPING THE SEAT TO IT'S LOWEST LEVEL AND SLOWLY MOVING THE SEAT FORWARD. THIS SEEMS TO REGAIN THE TRACK BUT HAS ONLY BEEN A TEMPORARY SOLUTION AS IT ULTIMATELY SKIPS OFF TRACK REPEATEDLY AND FIXES THE SEAT TO IT'S LOWEST POSITION WHICH MIGHT NOT BE SUITABLE FOR MANY SHORT DRIVERS. <-- I HOPE THIS TEMPORARY REMEDY HELPS OTHERS WHO MAY BE DRIVING DANGEROUSLY IN THIS VEHICLE. A $1000 REPAIR WAS QUOTED BY MY NISSAN DEALER, HOWEVER, I AM GOING TO CONTINUE THE TEMPORARY RE-ALIGNMENT DESCRIBED ABOVE AND WHEN THAT ULTIMATELY COMPLETELY FAILS, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO EXCEPT HOPE NISSAN FINALLY OWNS UP TO THIS OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW AND FIXES IT. *TR

MY NISSAN MURANO HAS A DEFECTIVE DRIVER SIDE VISOR. IT CONSTANTLY FALLS FROM THE "UP POSITION" INTO DRIVERS VISION. THIS CAUSED AN ACCIDENT!!! I WAS TRAVELING DOWNHILL ON A SNOW/ICE COVERED ROAD, I HIT A BUMP AND THE VISOR FELL INTO MY VISION I REACHED TO PUT THE VISOR BACK INTO THE UP POSITION. PUSHED IT INTO PLACE AND IT IMMEDIATELY FELL AGAIN I PUSHED IT BACK UP(DISTRACTING MY ATTENTION FROM THE ROAD IN FRONT OF ME) AND NOTICED A CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, I SWERVED TO MISS THE STALLED CAR, I AVOIDED HITTING THE CAR BUT AS I SWERVED I RAN OVER BLACK ICE THE CAR GOT SIDEWAYS AND HIT A CONCRETE BARRICADE.
AUTOMATIC LEFT SIDE DOOR LOCK DOES NOT FUNCTION AUTOMATICALLY. FRONT RIGHT SIDE AND LEFT REAR DOOR LOCKS ONLY WORK INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE BEEN TOLD DOOR ACTUATORS NEED TO BE REPLACED. PROBLEM CANNOT BE FIXED WITHOUT COMPLETE REPLACEMENT. THIS APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM EITHER WITH FAULTY DESIGN OR PRODUCTION. INABILITY TO AUTOMATICALLY LOCK DOORS FROM THE INSIDE COULD PRESENT SAFETY PROBLEM. *KB
MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO TRANSMISSION/TRANSFER CASE/DIFFERENTIAL IS SHOT. THERE WAS THIS LOUD WHISTLING SOUND A SUDDEN JERK AND THEN A RATTLING SOUND WHICH I FOUND OUT FROM THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. UPON LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP I WENT TO ACCELERATE AND THERE WAS A DELAYED RESPONSE AND THEN THE VEHICLE JUST TOOK OFF. IT APPEARS THAT ABOVE 1000 RPM THE TRANSMISSION KICKS INTO GEAR OTHERWISE THE TRUCK WILL NOT MOVE FASTER THAN 2 MPH. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING. THE MAKERS OF NISSAN HAS BEEN NOTIFIED BY HUNDREDS OF CONSUMERS THAT OWN THE NISSAN MURANO 2003-2009. YET NISSAN WILL DO NOTHING, BUT BLAME THE CONSUMER FOR LACK OF SERVICE ON THE VEHICLE. MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO PASSENGER DOOR LOCK FAILS TO OPEN WITH REMOTE CONTROL. THERE ARE NO KEY ACCESS ON THE PASSENGER HANDLE. I EITHER END UP THINKING MY DOORS ARE ALL LOCKED OR I TRY TO UNLOCK THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AND IT DOES NOT. 1. HAVING A SECURE ENVIRONMENT IS PARAMOUNT IN CERTAIN NEIGHBORHOODS. WHEN LOCKING THE DOORS IT'S IMPERATIVE NOBODY CAN GAIN ACCESS AT WILL BY WALKING UP TO THE CAR. IF ANYONE CAN SIMPLY OPEN THE DOOR TO GAIN ACCESS, CARJACKING, INJURY, OR EVEN MURDER IS EASIER. IF THE DOORS LOCKED PROPERLY THIS PROVIDES A MORE SECURE ENVIRONMENT FOR THIS TYPE OF SCENARIO. 2. NISSAN KNOWING THERE IS A SECURITY PROBLEM WITH THEIR LOCKING MECHANISM AND NOT RECALLING THEM FOR SAFETY CONCERN IS NEGLIGENT. IT'S AN OPEN DOOR TO A LAWSUIT IF SOMEONE WERE TO BE MURDERED DUE TO A DOOR THAT DIDN'T LOCK, ALTHOUGH THE DRIVER PUSHED THE LOCK BUTTON AND HEARD THE LOCKING NOISE. REMEMBER, IN THIS CASE THERE'S NO OBVIOUS INDICATION THE DOOR ISN'T LOCKED UNLESS SOMEONE WALKS UP AND OPENS IT FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE DRIVE "THINKS" THE DOOR IS LOCKED, WHEN IN REALITY IT'S AN "OPEN DOOR" FOR CARJACKING OR ROBBERY. THIS FAILURE IS AN INTERMITTENT OF OPERATION. SOMETIMES THE DOORS LOCK OK, OTHER TIMES THEY DON'T. IN ADDITION, SOMETIMES THE DOORS UNLOCK OK, OTHER TIMES THEY DON'T. 3. IN EMERGENCIES IT'S IMPORTANT TO BE ABLE TO UNLOCK DOORS QUICKLY. SINCE 99% OF THE TIME WE ALL USE THE BUTTON TO LOCK AND UNLOCK DOORS, USING THE MANUAL LOCKING LEVER IS UNFAMILIAR. AND THE MURANO'S DESIGN IS SUCH THAT IT'S NOT EASY TO COMPREHEND IF IT'S NOT YOUR CAR, FOR INSTANCE A RENTAL CAR. I CAN EASILY UNDERSTAND HOW SOME PEOPLE WOULD BE CONFUSED HOW TO UNLOCK A DOOR USING THE MANUAL LEVER IN AN EMERGENCY WHEN THEY VIRTUALLY HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH IT. IN EMERGENCIES EVERY SECOND COUNTS. THE LOCKING/UNLOCKING SOLENOID MALFUNCTIONING IS CLEARLY A HIGH RISK IN EMERGENCY SCENARIOS. SOME PEOPLE WHO CANNOT AFFORD THE $1600 TO HAVE ALL THE SOLENOIDS REPLACED WILL FORGO GETTING REPAIRED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2004 MURANO AT 65MPH THE CAR ALL OF SUDDEN LOST COMPLETE POWER, I WAS LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO GET IT OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. THE CARS POWER TRAIN WOULD NOT ENGAGE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THE CAR HAD A RECALL THAT THEY WOULD FIX AS WELL. THIS MODEL SEEMS TO HAVE MANY ISSUES AND NISSAN SHOULD EXTEND A LARGER WARRANTY TO COVER THEM OR BUY BACK THE VEHICLES. *TR

I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MURANO THAT HAS BEEN EXHIBITING ACCELERATION PROBLEMS FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS.
