Sun visors on driver and passenger sides will not stay in the up position causing visibility hazard.
My driver side sun visor has failed. It will not stay up in the home position nor will it stay against the windshield. It has simply flopped down and is blocking my view through the windshield. The only way I can operate my Murano is to move the visor to the left against the window of the driver's door. From the research I have done I have gleaned that this is an intrinsic design flaw common on all Murano and Rouge vehicles. And replacing it with an OEM sun visor at the dealership will not remedy the problem since the one they install will also fail eventually. Nissan has turned a deaf ear and blind eye to this critical safety hazard that obstructs the driver's forward view. There should be a recall on these visors. But don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen. I, for one, am NOT going to shell out the $400 that the dealership wants for the replacement visor...nor am I going to pay $150 an hour shop labor to have it installed. People be aware that there are NON-OEM replacement visors available on eBay and Amazon in the $50 price range and if you look on YouTube there are videos showing how to simply and easily install the new visor yourself with little more than a flathead screwdriver and a phillips head screw driver. THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP. IT HANGS IN THE DOWN POSITION AND OBSTRUCTS THE VIEW OF THE DRIVER. IT INITIALLY WOULD ONLY FALL DOWN WHEN THE VEHICLE HIT A BUMP IN THE ROADWAY.NOW THE VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP AT ALL AND IS CONSTANTLY BLOCKING THE DRIVER'S VIEW.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. JIM KERAS NISSAN (2080 COVINGTON PIKE, MEMPHIS, TN 38128, (901) 373-2800) WAS CONTACTED TO SCHEDULE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED TO COVER HALF OF THE REPAIR COST. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 82,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR DROOPS AND DOESN'T STAY IN THE STOWED POSITION. INSTEAD, IT FALLS WITHOUT WARNING AND OBSTRUCTS THE DRIVER'S VIEW WHICH IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT PLACES THE DRIVER, PASSENGERS AND OTHER MOTORISTS AT RISK. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUES WITH THE MURANO AND IS NOT ISOLATED TO THE 2014 MODEL YEAR. DO A SEARCH ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE FOR MURANO SUN VISOR AND YOU WILL SEE MORE THAN A DOZEN ISSUES REPORTED. AND THOSE ARE THE ISSUES THAT WERE REPORTED VIA THE NHTSA WEBSITE, IMAGINE HOW MANY ACTUALLY ARE OUT THERE UNREPORTED! THERE IS NO EXCUSE WHY NISSAN OR THE NHTSA HASN'T INVESTIGATED THIS FURTHER AND ISSUED A RECALL. LOOKING THE OTHER WAY REGARDING THIS MATTER IS NO LONGER AN OPTION, THE MANUFACTURER AND NHTSA NEED TO TAKE ACTION IMMEDIATELY. THE DEALER TYPICALLY WANTS >$400+ TO REPLACE THIS SUN VISOR AND MANY CONSUMERS HAVE HAD IT REPLACED ONLY TO NEED TO REPLACE IT AGAIN! THIS IS SIMPLY UNACCEPTABLE AND IS EVIDENCE THAT THE PART IS POORLY ENGINEERED. I CHALLENGE NISSAN TO STEP UP AND DO THE RIGHT THING AND ISSUE A RECALL AND REPLACE THESE DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS SUN VISORS BEFORE THERE IS A FATAL ACCIDENT AND LITIGATION. THE MURANO IS MARKETED AS AN UPMARKET PRODUCT AND IF THE TRIM INSIDE FALLS SHORT OF THAT IN TERMS OF QUALITY AND IS A FLAWED DESIGN THAT COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO OBSTRUCTED VIEW, THIS MUST BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. WE WILL BE TAKING OUR VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED BUT DO NOT WISH TO PAY THE EGREGIOUS PRICE FOR A REPLACEMENT THAT WILL LIKELY FAIL AGAIN DUE TO A DESIGN DEFECT. AGAIN, I CALL ON NHTSA AND NISSAN TO TAKE ACTION AND ADDRESS THIS ISSUE IMMEDIATELY! NHTSA IS MANDATED TO PROTECT MOTORISTS AND HERE IS A CLEAR CASE WHERE THEY CAN STEP IN AND TAKE ACTION AND PREVENT HARM TO CONSUMERS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO RELIABLE NISSAN (LOCATED AT 9951 COORS BLVD NW, ALBUQUERQUE, NM 87114, (505) 435-9825), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED BECAUSE THE WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THE SUN VISORS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
WHILE DRIVING THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR FALLS WITHOUT WARNING, OBSTRUCTING VISION. IT WILL NOT STAY ALL THE WAY UP. SOMETIMES IT FALLS ALL THE WAY DOWN, AND SOMETIMES IT STOPS PARTWAY DOWN AND IF I MAKE A QUICK STOP MY HEAD HIT IT. I CANNOT LOWER THE AUTOMATIC SEAT FAR ENOUGH TO GET BELOW IT SUFFICIENTLY. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE IT BLOCKS MY VIEW WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK THIS VEHICLE TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY CAN REPAIR IT BY INSTALLING A COMPLETELY NEW VISOR ASSEMBLY AT A COST OF NEARLY $300, BUT THEY DO NOT WANT TO DO SO BECAUSE THE PROBLEM WILL RECURR AFTER SOME TIME. THEY SAY IT IS A DEFECT THAT NISSAN HAS NOT CORRECTED. I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND WITHIN MINUTES FOUND HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS HAPPENS WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, BUT THE VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP EVEN WHEN PARKED.
MY 2014 NISSAN MURANO DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR DOES NOT STAY IN PLACE AND HAS TO BE HELD IN PLACE BY A SMALL BUNGEE CORD NOW SINCE NISSAN STATES IT'S NOT A COVERED REPAIR. THE COST TO BUY A NEW VISOR AND INSTALL IS OVER $370 FROM THE DEALER. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST. A QUICK SEARCH ON THE INTERNET CONFIRMS MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE.
