RE: 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER ABOUT 2, 5 YEARS AGO, MY FUEL GAUGE READ 1/2 FULL OR ALL EMPTY AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. CHANGING OIL RESET LIGHT INITIALLY, BUT IT CAME BACK ON. SHORT TIME LATER CAR FAILED SAFETY INSPECTION BECAUSE OF GAUGE AND LIGHT. CAR MECHANIC REPLACED SENDING UNIT, FUEL PUMP AND FILTER. SAID PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO REPLACE SENDING UNIT. DEC/09 CAR FAILED TO START. GAUGE READ 1/2 FULL. MECHANIC SAID FUEL FILTER FAILED, BUT PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED SINCE FILTER IS INSIDE PUMP. JAN30,2010. AS I WRITE THIS MY TANK READS HALF FULL AND THE CAR WON'T START. IT IS DOING THE SAME THING IT DID THE LAST TIME. BEING STRANDED BECAUSE OF A FAILED FUEL PUMP/FILTER/ GAUGE/SENDING UNIT IS DANGEROUS. I CAN TRUST THAT A PART (THAT IS SUPPOSED TO LAST THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE) ISN'T GOING TO FAIL ME. I WOULD ADD OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS, DESPITE APPROPRIATE SERVICING AND MAINTENANCE, (EVEN REPLACED TIRES) MY FUEL CONSUMPTION HAS BECOME VERY POOR. THE ISSUES ARE SOMEHOW CONNECTED. FUEL LEVEL SENSOR A INPUT HIGH RECALL FOR NISSAN PATHFINDER DOES NOT INCLUDE THE 2005 MODELS AND THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, THE PATHFINDER STARTED TO PULSATE WHILE GAINING SPEED...DEALER PERFORMED TRANS SERVICE, FIXED PROBLEM FOR A FEW DAYS. PATHFINDER STARTED PULSATING AGAIN, EVEN WORSE. DEALER ADVISED TORQUE CONVERTER WAS BAD..SECOND OPINION MECHANIC ADVISED RADIATOR LEAKED INTO TRANS, AND TRANS FLUID LEAKED INTO COOLANT. COOLANT DESTROYED TRANSMISSION. LEARNED THIS HAS BEEN A ONGOING PROBLEM WITH PATHFINDERS FOR YEARS, THERE IS A WELD INSIDE THE RADIATOR THAT FAILS AND THE TWO LIQUIDS TRANSFERS. WHY WOULD THE COMPANY DESIGN A RADIATOR THAT HAS TWO LIQUIDS INSIDE THAT CAN CONTAMINATE EACH OTHER. *TR
2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER LE FUEL GAUGE READING FLUCTUATES AND READS EMPTY 90% OF THE TIME, CAUSING A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT DUE TO INACCURATE GAS READING. PURCHASED SUV BRAND NEW IN NOV '06, REPORTED ISSUE DURING WARRANTY PERIOD, BUT NEVER SEEMED TO ACT UP WHEN AT THE DEALERSHIP, UNTIL 51K MILES HIT AND THE PROBLEM BECAME PERMANENT AND OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAVE 2 SMALL CHILDREN AND HAVE RUN OUT OF GAS ONCE ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY 66 AND ONCE ON A BACK ROAD IN WINTER WITH NO RECEPTION. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ONLINE HAVE POSTED THE SAME SITUATION. NISSAN CLEARLY NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THE 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH BOTH TIMES TO NOT BE RE-ENDED, BUT HAVE HAD MY INFANT WITH ME BOTH TIMES AND HAD TO HAVE CITIZENS PUSH ME TO THE SHOULDER. *TR
I HAD 1/4 OF A TANK OF GAS AND WENT TO FILL UP. AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK, I TURNED ON THE CAR, AT WHICH POINT THE NEEDLE DID NOT REGISTER THE FULL TANK. AFTER DRIVING A COUPLE MILES, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I CAN NOT RELY ON MY GAUGES TO GIVE AN ACCURATE READING OF MY FUEL AND/OR HOW MANY MILES I HAVE UNTIL I AM EMPTY. NOW I HAVE AN ADDITIONAL ISSUE THAT SEEMS TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS WHERE MY OIL PRESSURE NEEDLE ALWAYS SHOWS HIGH. THIS DID NOT FIX ITSELF. IT APPEARS THERE IS A RECALL ON 2006 AND YOUNGER MODELS FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT MY 2005 PATHFINDER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE ISSUE I AM HAVING IS EXACTLY WHAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE OTHER RECALLS. *TR
2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER FUEL LEVEL SENSOR FAILS... THERE IS CURRENTLY A RECALL FOR THIS SIMILAR ISSUE ON THE 2006 AND 2008 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER SHOULD BE INCLUDED ALSO FOR THE SAME REASON. THE VEHICLE COULD RUN OUT OF GAS DUE TO THE FAILED GAS LEVEL SENSOR AND RESULT IN A CRASH. MY 2005 PATHFINDER FUEL GAUGE IS MALFUNCTIONING, AND FROM WHAT I HAVE READ, NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT REFUSES TO COVER IT UNDER ANY WARRANTY. SHOULDN'T THE FAILURE IN THE 2005 NISSAN VEHICLES HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE CURRENT RECALL AS WELL? *TR
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER THAT STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED IT USED. THE PROBLEM STARTED AROUND 60,000 MILES. THE FUEL LEVEL WILL READ EMPTY EVEN AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN FILLED UP. IT ALSO DISPLAYS A SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. MY FIRST CONCERN IS THE VEHICLE RUNNING OUT OF GAS WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND LOOSING POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES AND CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. ANOTHER MAJOR CONCERN IS THAT SOMETHING ELSE COULD GO WRONG WITH THE ENGINE BUT I WOULD NEVER KNOW BECAUSE THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON DUE TO THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. THIS VEHICLE IS PRIMARILY DRIVEN BY MY WIFE WITH MY INFANT SON SO MY MOST SERIOUS CONCERN IS THAT THEY COULD BECOME STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS EVEN POSTED A TECHNICAL BULLETIN NTB07-069A CONCERNING THE FAULTY PART. THE FAULT CODE IS P0463 FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ARM OF THE FUEL SENSOR WAS FRACTURED AND HE WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH FUEL WAS ACTUALLY IN THE VEHICLE. BOTH THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 106,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000. UPDATED 04/25/12*LJ UPDATED 04/30/12
FIRST TIME- TRANSMISSION FAILED- NEW ONE INSTALLED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY- HAS GONE BAD AGAIN LAST WEEK- THEY TELL ME THE COOLANT IS LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND HAS RUINED IT, THE GAS TANK NEEDS REPLACING, NEW RADIATOR, NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER, NEW U-JOINTS FOR THE SECOND TIME. MY EXTENDED WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED- THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT I NEED $8000.00 WORTH OF REPAIRS TO FIX THE PROBLEMS. THAT IS MORE THAN THE VEHICLE IS WORTH WITH 155,000 MILES ON IT!!! PLEASE HELP. *KB
2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER FUEL LEVEL SENSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, DIAGNOSTICS DONE AFTER ON GOING PROBLEM AND CALLED NISSAN AFTER NISSAN SENT OUT EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I CANNOT USE AS IT WILL NOT COVER MY TRUCK FOR REPLACING THIS PART. (OVER $72K MILEAGE BUT UNDER 72 MONTH) THEY ADMITTED IN THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH SOME PATHFINDERS. I CALLED ABOUT THIS ISSUE BACK IN MAY OF 2010 ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT I CAN PAY FOR THIS REPLACEMENT OF THIS PART AND IF THERE IS A RECALL I CAN SUBMIT MY INVOICE FOR REIMBURSEMENT. RECENTLY WHEN I CALLED ABOUT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, BECAUSE I AM OVER THE MILEAGE AND I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE FOR ALMOST 6 YEARS, I WAS PASSED OFF TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS, AND WAS TOLD I WOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE DIAGNOSTICS IF IT IN FACT DID COME BACK THAT IT IS THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. SO, $128.00 LATER I WAS TOLD I WOULD NOT BE REIMBURSED FOR THE DIAGNOSTICS AND THEY WOULD ONLY PAY $250.00(THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE LABOR AT WHICH I AM EXPECTED TO PAY OUT OF POCKET) OF ABOUT A $600.00 REPLACEMENT OF A BAD PART! I HAVE BEEN WRITING MY GAS MILEAGE DOWN FOR 58 WEEKS NOW, AS THIS PROBLEM STARTED AT 71086 MILES. I BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE CONSUMER REP ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT BECAUSE IT WASN'T DIAGNOSED 58 WEEKS AGO THEY WILL ONLY PAY $250.00, EVEN THOUGH THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN THE SAME PROBLEM FOR 58 WEEKS, NO MATTER IF THE DIAGNOSTICS WAS DONE THEN OR NOW. THERE IS QUITE A FORUM ON EDMOND'S.COM FOR THIS ISSUE AS THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND EVEN THOUGH THE PART NUMBER FOR THIS FUEL SENDING UNIT IS THE SAME AS THE 06 PATHFINDERS- NISSAN WILL NOT RECALL THE 05'S AND FIX THIS ISSUE, BUT THEY DID RECALL 06'S. *TR
NISSAN PATHFINDERS 2005-2009, ARE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE IPDM, WHICH CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO STALL WHILE DRIVING. I AM NOT SURE IF THERE HAS BEEN ANY INJURIES FROM THIS PROBLEM, BUT THE POTENTIAL IS THERE, IF THE DRIVER IS TRYING TO MERGE INTO HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC AND THIS HAPPENS, AN ACCIDENT IS SURE TO HAPPEN. I HAD THIS PROBLEM, AS I SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR A SOLUTION THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER OWNERS HAVING THE PROBLEM, WITH THEIR VEHICLES. THE POST I FOUND MY SOLUTION ON STATES THAT NISSAN KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM, BUT NO RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

AFTER RETURNING HOME AND DOING RESEARCH, I WENT ONLINE TO X.NISSANHELP.COM AFTER PERFORMING A SEARCH, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE OTHER MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AFTER NOT GETTING ANY FUEL, POSING A GREAT DANGER. I HAVE READ THAT THE METAL IN THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND WILL CORRODE OVER TIME. THERE IS A GENERAL CONSENSUS THAT EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE PROBLEM IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 YRS AND WITH AROUND 39K-49K. IF THIS PROBLEM EXISTED IN PREVIOUS MODELS, AND IT WAS RECALLED, THE 2005-2007 XTERRAS, FRONTIERS, AND PATHFINDERS SHOULD GET THIS FIXED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER!! WHY WAIT FOR ACCIDENTS AND POSSIBLE DEATHS, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE PROBLEM LIES IN AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE VEHICLE. COST OF REPAIR RANGES FROM $300-600."*TR
FUEL GAUGE READS FULL PART OF THE TIME, EMPTY PART OF THE TIME AND ALL IN BETWEEN. I HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING HOW MUCH FUEL I HAVE IN THE TANK. NISSAN IS RECALL ING THE 2006 PATHFINDERS FOR THIS DEFECT, BUT ARE NOT RECALLING THE 2005 MODELS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSANUSA AND THEY HAVE REFUSED TO REPAIR MY VEHICEL. THE DEALER DID A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND THE PROBLEM IS THE FUEL SENDING UNIT INSIDE MY GAS TANK. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN REFUELING THE FUEL TANK, THE FUEL LEVEL GAUGE WOULD NOT READ THE ACCURATE AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE VEHICLE UNTIL FIFTY MILES LATER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE DURING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 87,000.
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER WITH 66,660 MILES. MY SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS FOUND THE CODE P0463-FUEL LEVEL SENSOR A CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT. THE DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE $500+ TO REPAIR ALTHOUGH THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS NISSAN VEHICLE BECAUSE OF DEFECTIVE PARTS PLACED WHEN ASSEMBLED. *TR
SALVADOR ALARCON WHO IS THE OWNER OF ALARCON'S TIRE SHOP WAS ACTED DECEITFULLY BY HAVING HIS STAFF INSTALL 235X65X17 VEHICLE TIRES ON MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER WHICH USES 265X65X17 TIRES. THESE TIRES NOT ONLY COMPROMISE THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AND MYSELF BUT CAUSE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF WEAR AND TEAR ON MY VEHICLE. ALARCON'S TIRE SHOP 495 E 26TH ST OGDEN, UT 84401. *TR
THE GAS GAUGE REGISTERED A HALF TANK OF GAS. THE CAR RAN OUT OF GAS WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MILES AN HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS READING INACCURATE FUEL LEVELS. THE FUEL LEVEL INDICATOR WOULD READ EMPTY FUEL LEVELS WHEN THE FUEL TANK WAS FULL WITH GASOLINE. AFTER TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 50 MILES, THE INDICATOR WOULD RESET ITSELF AND THEN THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR. THE DEALER ADVISED BRINGING THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 46,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 61,000.
ON11/01/09 I FILLED UP MY GAS TANK ON MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER AND DRIVING AWAY I NOTICED THE GAUGE REMAINED ON 1/4 OF A TANK. ALSO THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE READING ON THE DTE READ ------. NOTICED ON THE NET THERE ARE MANY OTHER LIKE ME THAT HAS GONE THROUGH THIS ISSUE. *TR

MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER HAS A BAD IPDM (PART# 284B7-ZC00A) WHICH MAKES THE TRUCK RANDOMLY SHUT DOWN. MINE SHUT DOWN IN AN INTERSECTION AND I WAS ALMOST T-BONED. DEALER HAS TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR NISSAN, AND LOOKING ON THE INTERNET, THE PROBLEM IS RAMPANT. THANK GOD IT DIDN'T FAIL WHEN I HAD MY FAMILY BACK COUNTY LEAVING US STRANDED. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS, THEY ARE REDESIGNING THE PART (SO I AM TOLD) - THEY SHOULD RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT RADIATOR COOLANT HAD LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION . THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS OF THE FAILURE. SENDING UNIT FAIL 2ND TIME
I BOUGHT MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER NEW FROM THE DEALER. AT ABOUT 60,000 MILES I STARTED HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND WAS TOLD THAT NISSAN HAD A SEVERE PROBLEM WITH THE RADIATOR LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND RUINING IT. I HAD TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR AT A COST OF ABOUT $600.00. I BELIEVE THAT NISSAN SHOULD HAVE HAD A RECALL SINCE THIS PROBLEM IS SO WIDELY DOCUMENTED. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE FUEL PUMP WHICH COST ME $500. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I WON'T BE LOOKING FOR A NISSAN PRODUCT WHEN I SHOP FOR MY NEXT CAR. THE IPDM/ER (FUSE AND RELAY BOX) FAILED ON OUR NISSAN PATHFINDER IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR. THE CAR JUST SHUTDOWN, ALL ELECTRICAL FAILED. AFTER DOING RESEARCH, IT TURNS OUT ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE. THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING WITH TITAN NISSAN TRUCKS. THE CAR SHUTTING OFF RANDOMLY CAN BE DEADLY! IT'S ONE OF THE MOST SCARIEST THINGS TO HAPPEN WITH YOUR KIDS IN THE CAR. THERE IS A NATIONAL BACK ORDER FOR THIS PART FROM NISSAN WHICH PROVES THAT THIS IS AN EPIDEMIC PROBLEM AND NISSAN SHOULD MAKES THIS A NATIONAL RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE ENDS UP DEAD! *TR

PURCHASED FOUR (4) NEW KUMHO ROAD VENTURE APT TIRES SIZE P265/70/R16 ON 8/1/2009. AT TIME OF PURCHASE THE SUV HAD 58,951 MILES. AFTER GETTING A LOW AIR PRESSURE ALARM FROM THE VEHICLE ON 10/4/2009, I CHECKED THE TIRE PRESSURE AND NOTICED THREE (3) SIDEWALL DEFECTS ON THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. AT THIS TIME, THE SUV HAS 61,581 MILES. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE TIRE RETAILER FOR INSPECTION. THE TIRE RETAILER STATES THAT THE DEFECT IS DUE TO A NORMAL MANUFACTURING PRACTICE OF OVERLAPPING MATERIAL. THE TIRE RETAILER COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY THREE (3) DEFECTS INSTEAD OF ONE (1) DEFECT. THIS APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT NOT COVERED BY A RECALL NOTICE. *TR
WHEN FUEL GUAGE GETS TO 1/2 TANK LEVEL READING OR LESS, IT IMMEDIATELY DROPS TO "E" (EMPTY). THIS IS A VEHICLE MY WIFE DRIVES, AND SHE HAS RUN OUT OF GAS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS DUE TO THE INCORRECT READINGS. THIS IS NOT AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM, IT IS CONSTANT. WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS DEFECT, ESPECIALLY SINCE SHE OFTEN TRAVELS WITH OUR 2 CHILDREN. EVERYTHING I HAVE READ FROM PATHFINDER OWNERS RELATIVE TO THIS PROBLEM INDICATES IT IS A DEFECTIVE FUEL SENDING UNIT. WE SAW THAT A RECALL WAS GOING TO HAPPEN, BUT WERE DISMAYED THAT IT DID NOT INCLUDE 2005 PATHFINDERS, AS THE SAME TYPE OF COMPLAINTS FROM OWNERS CLEARLY INDICATED THE PROBLEM SPANNED THE 2005 MODEL YEAR. WE NOW TRY TO KEEP THE TANK OVER 1/2 FULL, BUT IT REQUIRES US TO MAKE TWICE AS MANY GASOLINE STOPS. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT DEFECT AND DOES INCLUDE 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDERS. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO VIDEO TAPE WHAT OCCURS IF NEEDED.
2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER IPDM FAILED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AT 70 MPH WITH NO WARNING. LOST ALL POWER AND LEFT FAMILY STRANDED ON SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE TO THE HOSPITAL ONE DAY AND THE GAS GAUGE SUDDENLY WENT TO EMPTY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER SE. I HAVE HAD AN ISSUE WITH IT AND IT COULD OF BEEN A SAFETY ISSUE. IN JUNE '09 THE RADIATOR HAD A COOLING LINE THAT BROKE WHICH HAS BECOME A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. AND ANYTIME THAT A DRIVETRAIN IS IN ISSUE IT COULD CAUSE A SAFETY ISSUE. I REPLACED THE RADIATOR FOR $600 AND THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT WITH VIOLENT STUTTERING AND ENGAGING IN AND OUT WHILE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHICH COULD OF CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I HAVE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION WITH NO HELP FROM NISSAN. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED BY SEVERAL HUNDRED CONSUMERS ALL WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER. AROUND 50000 MILES THE FUEL GAUGE QUITE WORKING PROPERLY AND CONTINUES TO SHOW BOTH ACCURATE AND ERRONEOUS INDICATIONS. I WILL INDICATED PROPERLY AT TIMES AND INDICATED IMPROPERLY AT TIMES. ALSO THE DISTANCE TO EMPTY CALCULATOR HAS QUITE WORKING. THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THE PATHFINDERS, NISSAN RECENTLY ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE 2006 AND 2007 NISSANS FOR THIS PROBLEM. HOWEVER THEY FAILED TO INCLUDE THE 2005 PATHFINDERS WHICH HAVE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS. I HAVE RUN OUT OF FUEL TWICE DUE TO INCORRECT FUEL INDICATIONS. FORTUNATELY THEY WERE BOTH NEAR HOME ON UNBUSY STREETS. I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD SON AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO DRIVE AND UNSAFE VEHICLE. HEAVEN FORBID I RUN OUT OF GAS ON A 4 LANE HIGHWAY WITH NO SHOULDERS. NISSAN KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE AND YET NEGLECTED TO INCLUDE 2005 PATHFINDERS IN THEIR RECALL. THEY CONTINUE TO DENY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE SAFETY OF THE PEOPLE THAT DRIVE THEIR CARS. THE FIX FOR THIS COST NEARLY $500. IN MY CASE IT CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON, WHICH IN TURN MEANS MY VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. ALL BECAUSE OF A FUEL LEVEL SENDIGN UNIT THAT WAS EITHER ENGINEERED IMPROPERLY, MANUFACTURED IMPORPERLY OR INSTALLED IMPROPERLY. WHY IS IT THAT THE EXACT SAME TYPE OF VEHICLES HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM ALL AROUND THE SAME MILEAGE. I HIGHLY DOUBT IT IS COINSIDENCE. IN FACT, NISSAN RECOGNIZES THAT THERE IS A ISSUE WITH THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNITS, YET SOMEHOW THE 2005 PATHFINDERS DON'T FIT INTO THE RECALL. YOU WOULD THINK WITH THE RECENT ISSUES WITH TOYOTA THAT NISSAN WOULD BE MORE WILLING TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THEIR PASSENGERS.

THIS IS A SAFETY FACTOR BECAUSE "THIS COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF GAS AND STALL IN TRAFFIC, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH." THIS COMPLAINT RELATES TO A WIDESPREAD MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN NISSAN PATHFINDER AND FRONTIER MODELS IN PRODUCTION AND SALE PRIOR TO 2008. THE ISSUE IS THE FAILURE OF TIMING CHAIN MECHANISMS DUE TO INFERIOR QUALITY PLASTIC GUIDES THAT HAVE FAILED ON A HUGE SCALE WORLDWIDE. NISSAN'S RECOGNITION OF THIS PROBLEM WAS REFLECTED IN TSB NOS. NTB07-042 AND NTB07-042A. RECOGNIZING THE DESIGN FLAW, NISSAN CHANGED THE PARTS IN 2008 AND FORWARD. OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY TIMES, NISSAN REFUSES TO REPAIR OR REPLACE THE RELEVANT PARTS AND, APPARENTLY, HAS NOT NOTIFIED CUSTOMERS OF THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM OF CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE THAT COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTS INVOLVING SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH AS A RESULT OF SUDDEN ENGINE FAILURE. AS DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET, MANY FAILURES OF THESE COMPONENTS ARE OCCURRING POST-WARRANTY AND MOST CONSUMERS HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE IMPENDING DANGERS BECAUSE NISSAN APPEARS TO HAVE NOT PUBLICLY ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM. FOR THOSE CUSTOMERS WHO DO BECOME AWARE OF THE PROBLEM POST-WARRANTY, THEY ARE FACING REPAIR COSTS OF APPROXIMATELY $2500.00 WHICH IS AN ECONOMIC BURDEN PLACED UPON THEM BY NISSAN EMANATING FROM NISSAN'S OWN INTERNALLY-RECOGNIZED DESIGN FLAW. REQUEST IS HEREBY MADE THAT THIS SITUATION BE INVESTIGATED AND THAT NISSAN BE HELD RESPONSIBLE AND ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE ECONOMIC AND SAFETY DANGERS IT HAS PERPETRATED BY ITS ADMITTED DESIGN FLAWS. I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER. IN AUGUST OF 2009, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS 4 YEARS OLD, IT STARTED STALLING RANDOMLY EVERY 15-30 MILES. EVENTUALLY, AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE IPDM MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE, AND WAS REPLACED. THIS TOOK CARE OF THE PROBLEM. I TALKED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND NISSAN, AND WAS TOLD THIS ONLY AFFECTED MY VEHICLE. HOWEVER, A RECALL WAS JUST ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED TO US, I WAS DRIVING BACK HOME WITH MY FAMILY FROM A CAMPING TRIP IN BIG BEAR, CALIFORNIA. OUR VEHICLE WAS FULLY LOADED DOWN WITH PASSENGERS AND CAMPING GEAR ON A LARGE DOWNHILL GRADE WHEN IT STALLED. SINCE THE POWER BRAKES WENT OUT, IT TOOK A LONG TIME TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP BY HOLDING THE BRAKES AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND FINALLY COMING TO A PORTION OF THE ROAD THAT WAS NO LONGER DOWNHILL. IF THIS HAPPENS IN THE WRONG PLACE, THIS FAILURE COULD CAUSE A CRASH, SERIOUS INJURY, OR DEATH. ALSO, WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE RESTARTED WHILE ROLLING BY PLACING THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND TURNING THE KEY FOR THE STARTER. THE KEY MUST BE FULLY TURNED TO THE OFF POSITION FOR A FEW SECONDS,AND THEN BACK ON. ONCE THE KEY IS OFF, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS, SO YOU PROBABLY WON'T BE ABLE TO RESTART IT WHEN ROLLING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER LE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE OVER 20 MPH DESPITE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,769 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 148,113.
FUEL SENDING MODULE FAILURE IN 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER WITH APPROX 62,000 MILES. THIS CAUSES "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" TO COME ON AND CAUSES VEHICLE TO FAIL EMISSION TEST. FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT WORK ACCURATELY EITHER. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ALL PATHFINDERS OF THIS VINTAGE AND REQUIRES THE FUEL TANK TO BE REMOVED TO REPLACE THE SENDING UNIT.
