I HAD DRIVEN MY 2009 NISSAN ROGUE FROM NEW JERSEY TO BOSTON, FAIRLY HEAVY TRAFFIC. AS I NEARED MY DESTINATION, I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. AS I PULLED AWAY TO TAKE A LEFT TURN, THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND LIMPED ACROSS ROUTE 1, FORCING HEAVY, HIGH SPEED, ONCOMING TRAFFIC TO STOP. I SPOKE WITH THE LOCAL DEALER AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT IT IS A PROBLEM AND THAT NISSAN IS NOT OFFERING A SOLUTION. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE NJ DEALER TO LEAVE IT FOR A COUPLE DAYS FOR THEM TO TROUBLE SHOOT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE. AND HAD ME PAY TO CHANGE THE FLUID. THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN WORSE AND THE DEALER REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE CAR IS NOT PREDICTABLE AND SAFE TO DRIVE WITH MY 2 YOUNG DAUGHTERS. FWIW, THE DEALER THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION A FEW YEARS AGO UNDER WARRANTY FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. MY GAS GAUGE IS NOT READING PROPERLY SO ANY TIME MY TANK IS BELOW HALF FULL IT DISPLAYS RANDOM INACCURATE LEVELS. THERE ARE RECALLS ON MANY OTHER MODELS FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM AND THE ROGUE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *TR
I HAD DRIVEN MY 2009 NISSAN ROGUE AS I WAS DRIVING FOR ABOUT 1 HR @ 65MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE SPEED DECREASED ON ITS OWN .. I LET GO OF THE GAS AND THEN QUICKLY PUT MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL AGAIN BUT IT WOULD NOT SPEED UP.. I HAD MY FOOT COMPLETELY ON THE GAS PEDAL. BUT IT WOULD NOT GO FASTER THAN 20MPH. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY THERE COULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT... WITH MY TWO KIDS ON BOARD... *TR
THE CVT WAS REPLACE AT 95000 MILES DUE TO TOTAL FAILURE. AT 12000 MILES WHILE DRIVING ON A ROAD WITH LOTS OF HILLS THE CAR LOST POWER AND SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN TO 30 MPH. IT SEEMED TO RESET AFTER SHUTTING DOWN AND LETTING THE CAR REST FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. I TALKED TO MY MECHANIC AND THEY SUGGESTED CLEANING THE FUEL INJECTORS AND A NEW AIR FILTER. I DID THAT AND IT STILL HAPPENED. I BROUGHT IT TO NISSAN, THEY CHECKED IT FOR 3 DAYS AND FOUND NOTHING. THEY SAID TO WAIT FOR A CODE TO COME UP AND THEY COULD GET TO THE BOTTOM OF IT. AT 140,000 MILES THE CODE CAME UP AS AN INTERMITTENT TORQUE CONVERTER CIRCUIT PROBLEM. NISSAN THEN SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T RECREATE THE CODE SO THE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO FIX. AFTER READING SEVERAL POSTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM AND THE SAME REACTION FROM NISSAN, I THINK THAT A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IS IN ORDER. I DON'T THINK THAT SOMEONE NEEDS TO DIE DUE TO NISSANS FAULTY VEHICLES, FOR ACTION TO BE TAKEN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED BETWEEN 70-75 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. AFTER EXITING OFF THE INTERSTATE AND STOPPING AT THE STOP SIGN, I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND IT STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE MOTOR WAS STILL RUNNING BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. THERE HAVE BEEN TWO OTHER INCIDENTS, 8/9/13 AND 10/10/13, WHEN I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE AND MY ROGUE STALLS AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND I HAD CARS BEHIND ME AND CARS IN THE RIGHT LANE. I PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO GET OVER AND HAD JUST ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND SAT FOR 5-10 MINUTES. I THEN PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND IT DROVE NORMAL. PEOPLE NEED TO BE MADE AWARE THAT THESE NISSAN VEHICLES WILL STALL WITHOUT WARNING AND IT SEEMS TO OCCUR MOST OFTEN WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS SO PASSING VEHICLES ON TWO WAY ROADS CAN BE DANGEROUS! I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY NISSAN THAT IT'S THE TRANSMISSION AND IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH NISSAN.
VEHICLE SPEED DOES NOT APPLY TO THIS SITUATION. THE HANDLE ON THE PASSENGER DOOR FREEZES OR IT SPRUNG, INSIDE THE HANDLE ITSELF. WE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FIXED 3 TIMES NOW SINCE 2013, IF YOU CHECK THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF 2009/2010 NISSAN ROGUES THAT HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE WHY? WE WERE TOLD BY A PERSON AT ONE OF THE NISSAN DEALERSHIPS THAT THERE APPEARS TO BE WEAKNESS IN THE HANDLES MECHANISM. THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS SHOULD THERE BE A FIRE, ACCIDENT ETC, AND SOMEONE NEEDED TO GET A PERSON OUT OF THAT SIDE OF THE CAR. AS IT IS NOW YOU CAN NOT OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE! MY HUSBAND HAS HAD IT FIXED 3 TIMES AND WE FEEL THIS HAS GOT TO BE A RECALL ISSUE DUE TO THE RECURRENCE OF THE HANDLE BREAKING OVER AND OVER. NOT TO MENTION SO MANY OTHERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. IT IS MY CONTENTION THAT IT SHOULD BE FIXED BY NISSAN AND NOT PAID FOR BY US THIS TIME. YOUR SPEED IN HANDLING THIS PROBLEM WOULD BE APPRECIATED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ROGUE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, THE PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN WHEN PROMPTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN EVEN WHILE UNLOCKED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR PANEL WAS REMOVED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE PARTS THAT WERE REPLACED WERE UNKNOWN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
A HIGH-PITCHED WHIRRING SOUND MANIFESTED ITSELF WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, FOLLOWED BY A GRINDING SOUND, ALL COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE TOWARDS THE REAR END. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO TOOK IT ON A TEST DRIVE. HE ALSO HAD ANOTHER MECHANIC DO THE SAME. BOTH DIAGNOSED IT AS A TRANSFER CASE FAILURE. I THEN TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER. AFTER THE TECH DROVE IT AND INSPECTED THE REAR END, IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A REAR DIFFERENTIAL THAT HAD FAILED. THE CAR ONLY HAS 74,300 MILES ON IT AND IS NOT USED FOR TOWING OR ANY OTHER SIMILARLY-DEMANDING ACTIVITIES. AT THE 50,000 MILE MARK THERE WAS A TRANSMISSION LEAK THAT ANOTHER NISSAN DEALER HAD TO FIX UNDER WARRANTY, BUT ONLY AFTER I CONTACTED NISSAN USA CONSUMER AFFAIRS. THERE SEEMS TO BE NO END TO THE ISSUES WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL CONCERNING THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND RELATED POWER-TRAIN COMPONENTS. IT IS PAST TIME FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO LOOK INTO THE HIGH RATE OF FAILURES WITH THESE MODELS. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A REASON NISSAN HAD TO MAKE A SPECIAL EXTENSION ON THE POWER TRAIN, DOUBLING THE LENGTH AND MILEAGE LIMIT. UNFORTUNATELY, THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL IS NOT PART OF THE POWER TRAIN AND I MUST PAY $2, 121 OUT OF POCKET FOR THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. *TR
THE VEHICLE PASSENGER AND/ OR DRIVER SIDE, DOOR AUTOMATICALLY LOCK WHEN CAR IS TURNED OFF. *TR
THE ELECTRICAL UNIT THAT CONTROLS THE PASSENGER AIR BAG, LOCATED IN THE RIGHT PASSENGER SEAT, HAS BEEN FOUND TO BE IN NONWORKING ORDER BY THE DEALER AND DEALER CLAIMS THERE IS NO ACTIVE RECALL REGARDING THAT MALFUNCTION. FOR THE DEALER TO REPLACE SAID PART WOULD COST THE OWNER $2000.
I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND A USED CAR WITH 82K MILES ON IT. AROUND CHRISTMAS I WAS ON MY WAY FROM MODESTO, CA ON THE I-80 BACK TO RENO, NV. I HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL SET TO 70 AND WHILE GOING UPHILL THE CRUISE CONTROL SHUT OFF AND I BEGAN LOOSING SPEED REALLY FAST. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR BUT THERE WAS NOTHING. I HAD THE PEDAL FLOORED AND YET I KEPT LOOSING SPEED. AT FIRST IT HAPPENED ONLY ON HILLS, NOW IT'S HAPPENING ON FLAT LAND. I'VE ALSO NOTICED THAT GOING FROM A STOP TO GO POINT MY CAR ALMOST STALLS AS IF IT WERE A MANUAL, IT'S AUTOMATIC. I'VE ALMOST GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT A FEW TIMES BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT FROM SAYS THEY, "CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM," SO I'M DRIVING AROUND THIS CAR HOPING FOR THE BEST UNTIL IT GETS WORSE AND ACTUALLY CAUSES AND ACCIDENT OR UNTIL THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. I DID RESEARCH AND THE SYMPTOMS FROM OTHER ROUGE OWNERS SIMILAR TO MY SYMPTOMS, ALL ENDED UP IN NEW TRANSMISSIONS... *TR
BOTH DRIVERS DOOR AND FRONT PASSENGER DOOR LOCKS NOT WORKING. THEY ARE NOT UNLOCKING WITH REMOTE OR KEY. THE REMOTE OPENS THE REAR DOORS ONLY, THEN YOU HAVE TO CLIMB IN AND REACH THE INSIDE FRONT LATCH TO OPEN THE DOOR. THEN GET OUT THE VEHICLE AND ENTER THRU THE FRONT DOOR. NISSAN HAD OR HAS RECALL ON THE 2008 ROUGE FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. WHY NOT ON THE 2009 ROGUE? I GOGGLED MY PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. WE NEED A RECALL ON THE 2009 AS WELL. THANKS FOR LISTENING. *TR
CAR SPUTTERED, LURCHED, AND CAME TO A STOP ON US 190 HIGHWAY. IT REFUSED TO START AND APPEARED TO BE OUT OF GAS. HOWEVER, THERE WAS STILL 1/2 TANK AND TRIP ODOMETER AGREED WITH THE GAUGE. CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE SOLE ISSUE WAS FOUND TO BE THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR, WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO ONLY AFFECT THE GAS MILEAGE. THE TOTAL COST WAS $700. AN ECONOMY DEVICE THAT CAN CAUSE SUDDEN FAILURE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. SOMETHING APPEARS TO BE WRONG WITH NISSANS CPU CODE FOR THIS VEHICLE. NO WARNING MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASH AT ANY TIME. *TR
A FEW MONTHS PRIOR TO MY TRANSMISSION FULLY BREAKING DOWN, I WAS EXPERIENCING EPISODES WHERE MY ROGUE WOULD LOSE ACCELERATION EVEN AS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS PRESSED AS FAR DOWN AS IT COULD. MAINLY THESE EPISODES WOULD OCCUR AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN OR TRAFFIC LIGHT. I WOULD BEGIN TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATOR NOR WOULD THE RPM'S INCREASE. SUDDENLY, THE "ENGINE" WOULD KICK IN AND I WAS QUICKLY AND FORCEFULLY PROPELLED FORWARD. THERE WERE A FEW EPISODES THAT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND THESE EPISODES WERE MORE FRIGHTENING AND THEY PLACED ME IN A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION OF BEING REAR-ENDED AT HIGH SPEEDS. THEN ON SEPTEMBER 30, 2012, MY FAMILY WAS LEAVING A VACATION TRIP AND HEADING HOME ON OUR 3+ HOUR DRIVE. NOT 2 MINUTES ON THE ROAD DID WE EXPERIENCE VERY LOUD GRINDING, CLUNKING AND ODD BEHAVIOR FROM OUR VEHICLE AS IT ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT GEARS. THIS NOISE/FEELING SEEMED TO MINIMIZE AS WE DROVE OVER 40 MPH UNTIL IT SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER. WE HAD TO ATTEMPT TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH OUR HAZARDS ON, AND THANK GOODNESS NO ONE WAS DRIVING BEHIND US OR I AM AFRAID WE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT ON A NORTHERN WISCONSIN HIGHWAY. SINCE THIS OCCURRED ON A SUNDAY AT 7:00 AM, WE DID NOT HAVE ANY POSSIBILITY TO TAKE IT TO A NISSAN DEALER OR TO RENT A VEHICLE TO GET HOME. WE WERE FORCED TO CONTACT A FAMILY MEMBER WHO GRACIOUSLY HAD A TRAILER AND DROVE THE 3+ HOURS TO GET US AND THEN TURN AROUND AND TOW US THE 3+ HOURS HOME. AFTER INSPECTION ON THE VEHICLE AT THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP, WE WERE INFORMED OF THE ISSUES AND EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION. I AM STILL FEARFUL OF WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO MY FAMILY. IT APPEARS THAT MANY PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE HAVE HAD THEIR TRANSMISSION REPLACED 2-3 TIMES. I FULLY SUPPORT A CVT RECALL!!!! *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, MY 2009 NISSAN ROGUE BEGAN OVERHEATING. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHERE HE FOUND COOLANT IN THE SPARK PLUGS SO REPLACED ALL PLUGS AND CHECKED THE RADIATOR. WHEN I WENT TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE, IT WOULDN'T START. HE CHECKED IT OVER AGAIN AND SAID THAT IT HAD A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. UNFORTUNATELY, THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY WAS ONLY GOOD FOR 5 YRS/60,000 MILES. I WAS 6,000 MILES OVER THE LIMIT. WHEN NISSAN WAS CONTACTED TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE POWER TRAIN. WHEN I ASKED THEM IF THEY HAD NOTICED A HIGH INCIDENCE OF POWER TRAIN PROBLEMS BEING REPORTED, I WAS TOLD "WELL, YES AND NO." HUH? *TR
VEHICLE WOULD START AND I WAS ABLE TO CHANGE GEARS BUT THESE WILL NOT ACTIVATE. EVEN WHEN ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE IT WILL NOT MOVE. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENCE; THE FIRST TIME WE EXPERIENCE THIS SITUATION WAS AT THE TIME WE TOOK THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE DEALER. AFTER STOPPING FOR GAS AND STARTING THE VEHICLE AGAIN IT ONLY MOVED FOR ABOUT 5 MINS, THEN STOPPED COMPLETELY. VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND A DIFFERENT VEHICLE PROVIDED (SAME MAKE AND MODEL); NOW THREE YEARS AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT WE HAVE THE SAME SITUATION (SAME SITUATION, TWO DIFFERENT VEHICLES, THREE YEARS TIMEFRAME). WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT CORRECTING THE SITUATION WILL COST BETWEEN $2500-3000. *TR
WHEN GOING OVER 60 MILES AN HOUR, USUALLY ABOUT AN HOUR INTO A LONG DRIVE, THE NISSAN ROGUE WILL NOT ACCELERATE. THE RPM INDICATOR GOES HAYWIRE AND MY FOOT IS COMPLETELY DOWN ON THE PEDAL BUT THERE IS NO ACCELERATION. THIS FIRST HAPPENED IN AUGUST 2012 WHEN I WAS DRIVING OVER A MOUNTAIN TO GET TO THE DESERT SO I THOUGHT THE CAR WAS OVERHEATING. SINCE THEN THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING CONSISTENTLY WHENEVER I DRIVE FOR OVER AN HOUR (WHICH I OFTEN DO FOR WORK). AT TIMES, THE CAR WILL NOT MOVE FORWARD IF IT IS AT A STOPLIGHT EVEN WHEN MY FOOT IS COMPLETELY ON THE FLOOR. THEN IT REVS UP AFTER A MINUTE BUT NOT BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE STARTS HONKING. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN YOU ARE ON THE FREEWAY AND SUDDENLY YOUR CAR STOPS ACCELERATING. ALL THE CARS BEHIND YOU START PASSING YOU BUT IT WILL ONLY TAKE ONE CAR NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO CAUSE A HUGE ACCIDENT, INJURY OR DEATH AND THEN NISSAN WILL BE IN REAL TROUBLE. I HAVE FOUND HUNDREDS OF INCIDENCES AND COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER NISSAN ROGUE DRIVERS OVER THE PAST COUPLE YEARS WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 65-70 MPH. CAME TO A SLIGHT LONG INCLINE ON THE HIGHWAY. IT SLOWED TO 60 MILES PER HOUR WITH THE ACCELERATOR ALL THE WAY PUSHED DOWN. WHEN I CAME TO A REST STOP AND TOOK OFF AGAIN-THE ACCELERATION WAS SLOW TO PICK UP SPEED. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. I WAS COMING BACK FROM SEATTLE TO SPOKANE, WA GOING UP THE MOUNTAIN PASS. I COULD NOT GO OVER 30 MILES PER HOUR WITH THE ACCELERATOR PUSHED ALL THE WAY DOWN. IT HAPPENED ON ANOTHER HILL FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD. AGAIN WHEN I STOPPED-THEIR WAS A DELAY IN ACCELERATION. SINCE THIS A COMPANY CAR AND HAVE THE OPTION TO PURCHASE IT AT 80,000 MILES- I WILL NOT. BECAUSE I WAS GOING TO BUY IT AND GIVE IT TO MY DAUGHTER SINCE SHE WILL BE TAKING DRIVER'S EDUCATION THIS YEAR. I FEEL THAT THIS CAR IS A SAFETY HAZARD ESPECIALLY FOR A NEW DRIVER. I WILL NOT BE BUYING A NISSAN IN THE FUTURE FOR MY DAUGHTER. OR ANY OTHER NISSAN. I WILL ALSO LET OUR FLEETS DEPARTMENT KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ROGUE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE, IT STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED ONCE BEFORE FREE OF CHARGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. UPDATED 09/22/14*LJ UPDATED 02/23/2015 *JS
AT SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST COMING FROM OUT OF A STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS ABLE TO PUSH THE PEDAL HARD TO GET ACCELERATION AND MANAGED TO REGAIN ACCELERATION. ON 7/9/12, WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT STEADY SPEEDS, I BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN TO SLOWING TRAFFIC, WHEN TRAFFIC PICKED UP I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET ACCELERATION OUT OF THE VEHICLE. I PUNCHED THE PEDAL TO THE FLOORBOARD AND GOT NO ACCELERATION WHATSOEVER. THE RPMS WOULD NOT INCREASE THE OVERDRIVE WOULD NOT RESPOND AND WAS JUST COASTING AT 40 MPH. I PROCEEDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THE INSISTED THAT SINCE THEY RECEIVED NO COMPUTER ERROR CODES OR COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND NOTICED IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO LOTS OF PEOPLE AND COULD BE SEVERAL POSSIBLE ISSUES. IT SEEMS MOST OF THE CAUSES ARE A RESULT OF LONG DISTANCE DRIVING WHICH I DO 4 TIMES A WEEK AND SOMEHOW RESETS UPON TURNING OFF AND TURNING BACK ON VEHICLE OR VEHICLE COOLING DOWN. AFTER A COUPLE MONTHS I GOT BACK ON THE HIGHWAY AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME NISSAN REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. I DON'T FEEL SAFER, AS I UNDERSTAND THIS CVT PROBLEM OCCURS IN MOUNTAINOUS AREAS, SUCH AS COLO. I HAVE ALSO READ BLOGS FROM PEOPLE WITH 08 & 09 ROGUES THAT HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AND IT WENT OUT AGAIN, NOT ALWAYS RIGHT AWAY. DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS THEN QUICKLY LOSING SPEED WITH NO INDICATION (BRAKE LIGHTS) TO THE DRIVERS BEHIND IS WITHOUT QUESTION A POTENTIALLY DEADLY SITUATION. I STILL FEAR IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I WON'T DRIVE MY ROGUE IN MOUNTAINOUS AREAS AND STAY AWAY FROM HIGHWAYS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. I PURCHASED THIS ROGUE WITH THE EXPECTATIONS IT WOULD TAKE ME WHERE I NEED TO GO SAFELY. ONLY ABOUT 1/8 OF THE STEM COULD BE FOUND. THE FAILED SENSOR STEM ALLOWED THE TIRE TO BLOW DOWN INSTANTLY. PICTURES OF THE FAILED STEM, TIRE AND RIM WHERE COLLECTED TO SHOW THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE RIM OR TIRE TO CAUSE THE STEM TO FAIL. I HAD THE DOOR HANDLE RECALL WORK COMPLETED IN MARCH 2011 SO I THOUGHT THE REMOTE'S BATTERY WAS WEAK AND REPLACED IT IN DECEMBER 2011. THEN THE MALFUNCTION STARTED TO OCCUR MORE FREQUENTLY. AFTER A FEW MONTHS, THE DRIVER'S DOOR LOCK WOULD NOT UNLOCK FOR ENTRY TO THE CAR OR LOCK ONCE I WAS INSIDE. TO GAIN ENTRY TO THE CAR, I WOULD HAVE TO OPEN THE DRIVER'S REAR DOOR AND REACH FORWARD TO UNLOCK THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. I HAD THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LOCK REPLACED IN MARCH 2012. NOW THE PASSENGER DOOR IS INOPERATIVE AS WELL AS THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. I MUST GET IN THE CAR AND REACH TO LOCK/UNLOCK THE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE. IF EVER QUICK ENTRY OR EXIT FROM THE CAR IS NEEDED, SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE HARMED. LAST TWO INCIDENTS OCCURRED WITH WIFE AND 2 YOUNG CHILDREN IN CAR ON BUSY ROAD - VERY HIGH SAFETY RISK AS THE PROBLEM OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING, LEAVING THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY NEARLY POWERLESS IN TRAFFIC. FIRST TRIP TO DEALER (PROBLEM WAS LESS SEVERE/FREQUENT FIRST TIME) PROMPTED SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO "FIX" UNDER AN OPEN TRANSMISSION-RELATED SERVICE CAMPAIGN, THE DESCRIPTION OF WHICH DID NOT FIT THE PROBLEM, BUT THE CAR WORKED PROPERLY UPON RECEIPT. PROBLEM RETURNED A MONTH LATER WITH GREATER SEVERITY - CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. CAR WAS IN SHOP FOR A WEEK AS NECESSARY PART WAS ON BACKORDER - "THIS IS A PROBLEM WE'VE BEEN SEEING LATELY," WE WERE TOLD. UPON RETURN CAR NEVER FELT FULLY LIKE IT DID WHEN NEW - WOULD OFTEN HESITATE SLIGHTLY WHEN GOING UP A GRADE BEFORE PICKUP RETURNED. DEALER "UNABLE TO REPRODUCE" THIS VERY FREQUENT PROBLEM WHEN BROUGHT IN FOR REVIEW, SO WE JUST LIVED WITH IT. THIRD INCIDENT OCCURRED LAST WEEK WITH HIGH SEVERITY, AGAIN, PUTTING WIFE/CHILDREN AT RISK IMMEDIATELY AFTER PULLING ONTO A BUSY MAIN ROAD. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE INCIDENT. CAR IS NOW AT DEALER FOR FURTHER EVALUATION. CAR IS ON LEASE; REQUESTS THUS FAR TO BE RELEASED FROM REMAINDER OF TERM BASED ON RECURRING SAFETY CONCERNS HAVE BEEN DENIED. CAR HAS 12K MILES ON IT AT 2 YEARS IN OUR POSSESSION, HAS BEEN FULLY MAINTAINED ACCORDING TO OWNER'S MANUAL AND IS IN EXCELLENT OVERALL SHAPE. I AM UNCOMFORTABLE PUTTING MY FAMILY IN THIS VEHICLE AGAIN GIVEN THE RECURRING FAILURE AND TYPE OF FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ROGUE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED TO 30 MPH WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. IN 2015, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DIFFERENT DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED. THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED IN WARM WEATHER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
