NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2017 Nissan Rogue. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
My Nissan 2017 rogue has unexpectedly lost speed (from 60 mph to less than 20 mph in less than 5 sec) on the highway with no chance of recovery and little time for other drivers to avoid my Nissan Rogue. This is an extremely dangerous scenario. There is no way to correct the situation without stopping car completely and restarting the engine on the highway.
I left my car in park and running on the driveway. I went out to turn it off, opened the drivers side door and went to push the button to turn it off. The car started rolling down the driveway I tried to stop it as it rolled into the street. I hurt my foot/leg and the car eventually stopped when it went up on a curb and hit my neighbors landscape wall The contact has mentioned the extent to which they were injured that required the use of crutches and a walking boot. The vehicle is still in their possession.
The passenger side airbag occupancy sensor is not working and therefore the airbag will not work. This is the same issue with other Nissan Rogue’s and a recall in this same year and yet our VIN is not included. It is very likely that cars have been missed on this recall as there is no other reason for this part to not be working.
Heat shield over muffler fell of vehicle (from corrosion of bolts and nuts) exposing rear cargo area (contains spare tire and other components) to excessive heat.
Transmission problems . It jerks , stalls when driving or having the car on for a long time .
Me vehicle keeps warning me of a forward collision when there is not the possibility of one. It has locked up the brakes at speed on an open road once before. This thing needs to be recalled this is a wide spread problem with rogues.
The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the driver’s side seat fractured. The contact stated that while sitting back in the seat, the seat offered no back support. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.
On multiple occasions this vehicle has lost power whilst driving on public roads including but not limited to interstate roadways. The vehicle will be operating normally at speeds of up to 75 miles per hour (depending on the posted speed limit) and will suddenly lose power and speed to such a degree that it is unsafe and the speed cannot be regained. Vehicle has been inspected and "fixed" on multiple occasions, in multiple states including but not limited to Missouri and South Carolina where the incidents have occurred, however the issue has continued to occur. The locations the vehicle has been inspected and "fixed" include both dealerships and independently owned garage repair shops. The Nissan dealership has advised this issue is not under warrantee and is not part of a recall. They have advised there is a recall of the engine of the 2017 Nissan Rogue Electric vehicle only for the same issue.
Air Conditioner stops working on long drives roughly 45 minutes in. Cold air does not always come through the vents to the interior. You can hear the blower working, and the compressor working, but the air flow is very weak, even warm.
When I am at a complete stop and I press on the accelerator, the car will lurch forward very slowly. This has happened many times while driving in heavy traffic and it is very unsafe.
The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle made a grinding noise and then lost motive power. There was an unknown malfunction message displayed on the instrument panel. The contact restarted the vehicle and was able to drive to her residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 14,502.
Liftgate malfunction. Liftgate of vehicle was found open when entering our garage despite previous night it being utilized and closed. I pressed the button on the liftgate to close the liftgate and both my husband and I witnessed it closing and heard the usual "click" sound that liftgate had closed completely. We entered the vehicle, and my husband started the vehicle. As he was slowly moving forward out of the garage, we suddenly heard beeping and the liftgate was opening without warning, hitting the top of the garage, causing the rear glass in the liftgate to shatter and damage to the rear wiper and liftgate paint. The plastic inner cover came off also. My husband moved the car to the street to clean out the class from the back, closed the liftgate and a few minutes later it rose again automatically without warning. When we brought the vehicle in for repair we mentioned what had occurred and asked that it be checked for accurate operation.
The OCS system has failed in my car. The passenger airbags are constantly turned off, even when a full sized adult is in the passenger seat, therefore putting them at risk if a crash were to occur. The yellow light indicating that the passenger airbag system is turned off is constantly on, as well as the red light on the dashboard indicating an airbag problem. These constant warning lights began May 19, 2022. I have not yet taken the vehicle in to be inspected. I have researched this issue, and it does seem to be a problem among Nissan Rogues.
Airflow sensor Yes the engine light suddenly appear on my screen I was turning right going uphill when it happen the car makes like sudden stops and the engine feels like choking up doesn't want to move forward for few seconds Somebody check it and also use a machine fixer from to auto zone to identify the cause of the problem It happen this morning
Passenger airbag sensor defective and doesn't work. Driver side seat is loose. These are safety issues and I shouldn't have to pay $3k to have them fixed especially when other 2017 rogues have had recalls for same problems, just different lots. Can't afford to fix and can't buy something new.
While driving on 86th street in Indianapolis, Indiana on a trip, my 2017 Nissan Rogue abruptly and suddenly stopped with no warning whatsoever. I was driving at approximately 30 to 35 miles per hour at the time. The engine remained operating once the vehicle stopped. I pressed the gas pedal after the abrupt stop when the vehicle began to move forward.
As we are on our way driving to work, there was weird sounds coming out of the engine, we had no check engine lights turn on an advance to give us a warning. After those weird noises , we pressed on the gas the car would not move, that’s when the engine light came on and the car turned off, there was smoke coming out of the front it smelt like something was burning, we moved out of the car fast. We tried turning the car back on but it would not turn on.
The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Rogue. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V024000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The car even after reprogramming ICC/ ADAS radar is still having similar problems over again. The car when driving on an open road suddenly stops and stalls with a malfunction sign and a crash signal in the middle of highway. The car then does not starts and the above message prevents the RPM from increasing. It drives at idle speed with no acceleration. The car fixes back itself some times and restarts driving fine and after few miles, again in the middle of road, same incident happened when it stalled again and same malfunction message appeared. There is an open investigation by NHSTA currently about this incident as reported in majority of 2017 Nissan Rogue. It is a huge safety concern with increased risk of injury or death to self, passengers, and others. Nissan is not taking accountability for this.
Pulling away from a traffic light and the car stopped by itself and the red e - brake light on dashboard came on
my vehicle stopped accelerating in traffic. It will shift into neutral, or it may appear to be in gear while the RPMs climb but there is no forward motion. this has happened multiple times at slow speeds. during the most recent incident, the check engine light came on and the code was something about a transmission solenoid being stuck
To whom it may concern, My 2017 Nissan Rogue's CVT transmission went out. I was driving home on March 11, 2022 and I turned right safely into an intersection when the oncoming traffic had a green light and my vehicle stopped accelerating. We could have been hit by incoming traffic because of this. It was not until this happened that I found out that there was a class action lawsuit against Nissan due to this CVT problem. My vehicle was not displaying any warning signs, it just stopped accelerating. Nissan failed to notify their consumers about the ongoing issue with the CVT transmission on their vehicles to have the vehicle inspected prior to warranty being expired. I am a single mother, full time employee, and full time student. I purchased this vehicle in hopes of it being reliable. Instead, this malfunction, I was almost hit by incoming traffic because of the lack of communication with their consumers. Letting consumers know this late is ridiculous, considering most of the affected models are close to the end of their 5-year warranty period. I demand an answer from Nissan, I will not accept that they are not doing anything to help me cover the costs which have been estimated to be closer to $10,000 by a Nissan certified service department. Nissan failed to communicate this problem, my daughter and I's safety was compromised when driving this vehicle, what if this would have occurred while we were driving on the highway. I could have been hurt and so would my daughter. I contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs and they declined any sort of help.
The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that upon driving from a complete stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond and the transmission slipped. The contact continued to depress the accelerator pedal and the vehicle responded by jolting inadvertently thirty minutes later. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring increasingly and the check engine light would illuminate intermittently. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at 30 MPH and approaching another vehicle, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond, causing the vehicle to crash into the rear end of the occupied vehicle. The airs bags failed to deploy and the seat belt failed to engage, causing the contact to hit her head against the windshield and hit her chest against the steering wheel. The contact sustain head injuries, memory loss, bruises on the chest, and whiplash. The contact did not seek medical assistance. The contact was unsure whether the other driver sustained injuries. A police report was filed. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to her mother-in-law's residence which was 2 to 3 blocks away. The dealer was not notified of the failure. Was driving down the interstate going 80 mph. All of a sudden the car starting stopping. It wouldn't accelerate but the engine was still revving. Was able to get it pulled to the side of the road. It calmed down, then got back on the road. That was the second time, the first time happen in town while going about 30 mph. At that time I didn't think much about it. Due to it completely stopping it could have caused us to have a crash. I took it to the dealership the next day and they told me there were no recalls for my vin, that only thing they could do was schedule an appointment to have it looked over. Only warning we got was when it happened, the dash flashed and it went to a stop. Nothing before hand.

Sometimes the crash warning light turns on without a reason I had taken the truck to dealership for this and I was told it’s because it is stopping me from crashing but I don’t see how if there are no cars on front of me or anything at all also a lot of times the car will start shaking when stopping or accelerating again I call the dealership and nothing has been done

The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000. The VIN was unavailable.
When I drive the 2017 Nissan Rogue the acceleration is very slow and no responsive. It's dangerous as I cannot even maintain speed of normal speed limits. I have had fuel injection service and oil change but it made no difference. There are times you could floor the pedal but there is incredible hesitation and knocks.

Was notified about a recall on my vehicle the beginning of February 2022 and have been in contact with my local Nissan dealer several times. It is now August and their has been no more notification on a possible repair for a safety recall on my vehicle. called multiple times at least once per month. I'm just very worried about operating/driving the vehicle with the type of recall that is out on the vehicle and was looking for more information on what to do because of it. For reference I live in southern Louisiana and drive thru rain and my roads are prone to flooding in heavy rains so it puts my vehicle at risk because of the recall with the wiring harness and water intrusion. So this makes me very worried about potential accidents that could occur especially in hurricane season.
MY 2017 NISSAN ROGUE STALLS WHEN SLOWING DOWN. AFTER TAKING IT TO DAYTONA NISSAN LAST WEEK, THEY REPLACED THE SERPENTINE BELT AND AIR FILTER. ($500 LATER) IT STILL STALLS WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND NOW STALLS WHILE IDLING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. There are recalls for same year Rogue but my Vin Number is not included. Please help!! I cannot afford these trips to the dealer! Concerned consumer

I was in a four car accident Friday. Major front end and rear end damage. My car was totaled and no airbags deployed.
Letter in the mail citing class action lawsuit VS Nissan regarding transmission issues - having same issues, car unable to start, causes battery to die.
I was t- boned. My air bags did not deploy, my insurance company has my vehicle and I have contacted Nissan and waiting for a reply. I do have pictures of my vehicle as I was hurt in this accident and still receiving treatment and waitning on getting another MRI
2017 Nissan Rogue has 118k miles and never had a lick of problem, till this morning when the CVT failed. The dealership to where I purchased the used Rogue, stated that the transmission is the stated problem when plugged to the computer system. No specifics and now the cost to repair is $4,900.00. From what I have read, Nissan is aware of the CVT issues, so why not provide a recall to fix or mitigate the damage to the customers. Why hasn't Nissan addressed this issue instead of sweeping it under the carpet.
Sunroof shattered randomly.
The windshield wiper recoil off has s leak and it drips into the blower for the heater and freezes. When this happens, the heater does not work at all. This causes visibility issues as the defrost/heater will stop working while you’re driving
The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that the carpet on the front driver’s and passenger’s side was wet. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer and the contact was informed that the source the leak was not found. The failure persisted and the rear carpet also became wet. The vehicle was taken to another dealer and the contact was informed that the source of the leak was coming from the sunroof. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V875000 (Electrical System). The contact stated that the work performed in the recall repair had led to the moisture inside the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 46,807.
Hi Nissan Team, my Nissan Rogue 2017 it has the Air Bag Icon On over 3 Weeks, I am feeling worry and unsafe right Roa, please as soon a possible I need a Recall for this Air Bag problem been fix it. Thanks!!

My car started jerking and having problems accelerating on the highway.
THe transmission on my 2017 Rogue went out in the matter of minutes with no warning and has under $59,000 miles on it. It is not covered under warranty because it is a canadian vehicle.
I was driving 5mph at a drive through Xmas light display. While slowly driving through the display, the vehicle suddenly lunged forward followed by the emergency braking system engaging. Which brought the car to a sudden stop in front of the cars following behind us. I turned the car off then back on. Several lights on the dash remained on after restarting the car. I took it into the Nissan dealership in Rockwall, TX. They told me the ABS control module failed and needed to be replaced. Based on what I was doing at the time of the incident, this sudden failure could have resulted in a potential accident. The dealership also told me this is a know issue on other Nissan's and has been known to cause the vehicles to catch on fire.
Passenger airbag light sensor fails to turn on when passenger is in seat. Does not register a passenger in seat

23 October approximately 1430 hours. 2017 Nissan Rogue stalled on highway , no dash lights were on, no power. Had to coast to shoulder of highway. Waited a few minutes. The vehicle started back up. 23 October approximately 1630 hours. Rogue stalled on highway , no dash lights were on, no power. Had to coast to shoulder of highway. Waited a few minutes. The vehicle started back up. Called the dealer, Watermark Nissan in Madisonville KY. Made an appointment for them to check/diagnosis problem. Took the Nissan Rogue to Watermark Nissan on 1 November and again on 10 November. Dealer could not diagnose problem. I drove vehicle home without incident. On 3 December at approximately 1100 hours I was driving the 2017 Nissan Rogue to Clarkesville TN. The Rogue stalled again on the highway, all dash lights were out, no power. I was stuck in the middle of the right hand lane on the highway. Traffic was lined up behind me and couldn’t get around me. I waited a few minutes and the Rogue started back up. I immediately drove the 2017 Nissan Rogue back to the dealer on 3 December and left the Rogue with them for repair/diagnosis. I told them I was not driving the car until they repaired it. I also told them the car was a safety hazard and to continue to drive it would be a hazard and may cause injury or death. On 6 December, Watermark Nissan called me and said they could not find the problem with my Nissan Rogue and that I needed to come get the vehicle, which they did not repair.
Heat randomly works so that if it’s not working the windshield won’t clear
The trunk lift gate opens then closes. The safety feature in which it will open if it is close to coming into contact with an object does not work. Sometimes the malfunction is delayed and if an individual is reaching into the trunk , it will come down on their head and possibly close them between the liftgate and the trunk. The trunk was inspected by a Nissan service parts place and they said it coded for needing new spindles which is a $1300 part that is on national back order without an eta. This presents safety issue because it can cause head injury and possible body injury if a smaller sized individual gets closed between the liftgate and the trunk.
I was driving on highway at approximately 60 mph, when the hood opened spontaneously obstructing my view, and greatly increasing my likelihood of a catastrophic crash. I was able to see under raised hood, due to a built-in gap, and safely exit highway. When closing, damage sustained to body surrounding hood. There were no audio or visual arms that such an event would occur, nor that the hood may have been open. No police report was filed at the time, and a mechanic is evaluating now. (I was the driver, but am not the owner of the vehicle. Owner is dealing with mechanics at this time.)
