AFTER DROPPING MY VEHICLE AT THE DEALER FOR OTHER SERVICE, I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE LEFT FRONT SPRING WAS BROKEN, AND THAT THE AXLE BOOT WAS LEAKING. BOTH NECESSITATED REPLACEMENT.
2009 NISSAN VERSA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE COIL SPRINGS FRACTURE ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, SHE HIT A SMALL POTHOLE AND HEARD A LOUD BANG. THE CONSUMER AND HER HUSBAND THOUGHT IT WAS A FLAT TIRE, BUT AFTER PULLING OVER, THEY DID NOT SEE ANYTHING. THEY CONTINUED TO DRIVE, BUT THEN THEY HEARD ANOTHER STRANGE NOISE AND SMELLED BURNING RUBBER. BY THE TIME THE CONSUMER PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY, THE TIRE ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WAS BURNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BOTH FRONT SPRINGS WERE BROKEN ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THE CONSUMER STATED A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, THE LEFT REAR SPRING WAS REPLACED. ALSO, THE MUFFLER WAS REPLACED TWICE. *JB
I WAS ROUTINELY PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY, AND I HEARD A SINGLE PING/KNOCK SOUND, IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY A GRINDING NOISE, COMING FROM THE FRONT RIGHT OF THE CAR. THE CAR INSTANTLY BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. UPON IMMEDIATE INSPECTION, I COULD SEE THAT THE LOWER PART OF THE COIL SPRING HAD BROKEN CLEANLY. THE REMAINING PORTION OF THE SPRING HAD COME AWAY FROM THE METAL RESTRAINING PLATE, AND WAS EXTENDING AGAINST THE INSIDE TOP PART OF THE TIRE. THE METAL DID NOT PUNCTURE THE TIRE, BUT IT IS SIGNIFICANTLY INDENTING THE RUBBER. THE CAR IS NOT DRIVEABLE. FURTHERMORE, THE LEFT COIL SPRING, IN THE SAME RELATIVE PLACE, SHOWS SIGNIFICANT CORROSION, AND DOES NOT LOOK SAFE FOR DRIVING. COIL SPRINGS ARE EXPECTED TO LAST THE LIFETIME OF A CAR-- ESPECIALLY ONE WELL CARED FOR AND DRIVEN IN ALMOST IDEAL CONDITIONS, LIKE MINE. I HAVE NEVER HAD A COIL SPRING BREAK ON ME. THIS IS NO COINCIDENCE, AS THE SECOND ONE APPEARS TO BE FAULTY AS WELL. I CAN ONLY FEEL GRATEFUL THAT THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH MY FAMILY ON THE HIGHWAY. HAS THIS OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY, THE TIRE WOULD HAVE SURELY BLOWN OUT, AND I WOULD HAVE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. NISSAN NEEDS TO STEP UP AND RECALL THESE SPRINGS BEFORE SOMEONE LOSES THEIR LIFE! I WILL NEED TO HAVE MY SUSPENSION REPAIRED, AS WELL AS POSSIBLY MY FRONT RIGHT TIRE. I WHOLLY EXPECT NISSAN TO PICK UP THE TAB FOR THIS.
IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER FAILURE.
SUDDEN, UNEXPLAINED ACCELERATION FROM 40 TO 60MPH. CAR WAS UNRESPONSIVE TO BRAKING.
DRIVER SIDE FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE WHILE DRIVING, RUBBING FRONT TIRE, TOWED TO NISSAN DEALER 07-31-15 - TAMAROFF NISSAN - SOUTHFIELD, MI. CAR HAS ONLY SLIGHTLY MORE THAN 25,000 MILES, ASKED NISSAN DEALERSHIP IF THIS WAS A RECALL OR AN ISSUE PART, THEY SAID NO, AND THAT THIS REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED, I ASKED THAT IT BE REFERRED TO NISSAN CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE, WHICH THEY DID. I DID NOT HEAR BACK FROM NISSAN CORP. CUSTOMER SERVICE UNTIL 08-14-15 NOTING THE COIL SPRING REPLACEMENT WAS NOT COVERED, AND THAT MY REQUEST WAS DENIED. I AGAIN ASKED THAT IT BE ESCALATED TO THE NEXT SUPERVISOR LEVEL FOR REVIEW. AS OF THIS DATE MY CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP.
A LARGE PIECE OF THE FRONT COIL SPRING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BROKE AND FELL OFF ON THE ROAD, AS I BACKED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND TURNED INTO THE STREET. I HEARD A CLUNK IN THE FRONT AND SOMETHING FALLING ON THE ROAD. THE REMAINING SPRING ON THE CAR WAS STILL IN PLACE. I HAD MY REPAIR SHOP REPLACE THE SPRINGS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN VERSA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FELT ABNORMALLY LOWER. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE COIL SPRING WAS FRACTURED IN TWO PLACES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A 30MPH CHICAGO STREET MY CAR ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. I HAD ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO TURN INTO A PARKING LOT AND ACTUALLY REACH A SPACE BUT THAT SPACE WAS TOW ZONE SO I HAD TO SIT THERE WITH MY CAR FOR 3 HOURS WHILE I WAITED FOR A TOW TRUCK BECAUSE IT WAS ACTUALLY RUSH HOUR. AFTER TAKING IT TO AAA CAR BODY SHOP, THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE ENGINE WAS JUST DEAD. AND AFTER THEY TOOK IT APART THEY COULD ONLY SPECULATE BUT WITH SOME CONFIDENCE FROM SEEING SOMETHING SIMILAR IN THE PAST THAT SOME SORT OF CHAIN INSIDE THE ENGINE SNAPPED AND STRUCK THE ENGINE AND CAUSED THE CYLINDERS TO COME TO A HALT. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT HE SAW SOMETHING SIMILAR IN A MID 2000'S SATURN. IN WHICH CASE IT ENDED UP BEING A RECALL FOR THAT LINE OF CAR. HE SAID IF YOU KEEP THE RECEIPT AND SOMEDAY IT ENDS UP BEING A RECALL, I COULD POSSIBLY GET A REFUND. ANYWAYS, THE BIGGER DEAL IS THAT THIS IS A HIGHLY HAZARDOUS BREAKDOWN. IM GLAD I WAS NOT ON A HIGHWAY WAITING 3 HOURS FOR A TOW. BUT IM ALSO GLAD I COULD COAST ON THE MOMENTUM I HAD. AFTER THE INITIAL BREAKDOWN THAT HAD A POPPING SOUND, MY CAR FELT HEAVY BECAUSE I LOST POWER STEERING AS WELL SO THE TURN INTO THE FORTUNATE PARKING SPACE WAS ACTUALLY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS NOT JUST TO ME BUT ALSO TO PEDESTRIANS. BECAUSE DURING THAT TIME IF I HAD TO SWERVE OUT OF THE WAY, I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO. ALSO THE BREAKS WERE HEAVY.. I HAD TO REALLY PRESS DOWN ON THEM TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. THATS ABOUT ALL I CAN SAY FROM MY MEMORY OF THIS INCIDENT. I DO HAVE MY RECORDS (RECEIPT FROM AAA)
MY WIFE HAD JUST BACKED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND STARTED DRIVING DOWN OUR ROAD. JUST AS SHE STARTED SHE HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND THE CAR STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT. THERE IS A SERVICE STATION 1/8TH MILE FROM OUR HOUSE. SHE DROVE THE CAR EXTREMELY SLOWLY (5MPH) TO THE STATION AND HAD THE MECHANIC CHECK THE CAR. THE MECHANIC TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL AND ONE OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION SHOCK ABSORBER SPRINGS FELL OUT OF THE CAR - BROKEN INTO TWO PIECES. IT HAD FATIGUED AND CATASTROPHICALLY FAILED. THE MECHANIC INFORMED HER THAT SHE WAS VERY LUCKY THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WHEN SHE WAS DRIVING NORMAL SPEED AS IT COULD HAVE SLICED THE TIRE AND CAUSED A BLOW OUT AT HIGH SPEED. I CALLED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO REPORT THE INCIDENT AND THEY INFORMED ME THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE AND THAT SINCE THE CAR WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY THE REPAIR COST WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY. IT COST APPROX $650 TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT SUSPENSION UNITS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN VERSA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, A LOUD ABNORMAL SOUND EMITTED FROM THE VEHICLE AND THE STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED OVER TO A GAS STATION WHERE AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER SPRING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. AFTER REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP IN 2013, THE CAR STALLED OUT IN THE FAST LANE OF A SMALL TOWN. NEGOTIATING TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE SECOND FUEL PUMP ALSO FAILED. NISSAN, IN AN ATTEMPT TO AVOID A GENERAL RECALL, ISSUED A ONLY A TECHNICAL BULLETIN WARNING OF POSSIBLE FUEL PUMP FAILURE. THIS SITUATION CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE RESOLVED BY NISSAN.
:WHILE PULLING INTO THE PARKING LOT AT WORK (THANKFULLY WAS NOT DRIVING ON A ROAD OR AT FULL SPEED), MY FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE SNAPPED OUT OF PLACE. AT FIRST, WE THOUGHT IT WAS A BALL JOINT, BUT ONCE IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE GARAGE, I WAS TOLD THAT THE SPRING HAD SNAPPED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED ON BOTH SIDES, TO THE TUNE OF 1400 DOLLARS. WHILE I AM THANKFUL THAT I WASN'T DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY OR NEAR PEDESTRIANS (I WORK IN A CITY), HAVING THIS HAPPEN ON A 6 YEAR OLD CAR SEEMS A LITTLE SUSPICIOUS. I HOPE THERE IS SOME SORT OF RECALL AND WOULD LOVE TO KNOW IF NISSAN IS WILLING TO REIMBURSE THE 1400 I UNEXPECTEDLY HAD TO PAY.
AS I WAS DRIVING, AT 40 MPH I HEARD A LOUD NOISE I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND I SEE A PIECE OF MY SPRING ON THE ROAD I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO A SHOP AND I AM TOLD THAT I NEED BOTH FRONT SPRINGS REPLACED, AND BALL JOINTS PLEASE NOTE THE BALL JOINTS WERE JUST DONE SO I AM CONCERNED IF THE SPRING COIL HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS ISSUE, THERE WAS NO RUST ON OR NEAR THE SPRING AND PRIOR TO THIS BREAKING, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVING TO ITS NORMAL STANDARDS.

I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND HEARD A LOUD SCRATCHING NOISE AND THEN MY TIRE WENT FLAT. CUT THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE. 2 WEEKS LATER WENT TO MY MECHANIC FOR SOMETHING ELSE AND HE SAID THE REAR SPRING WAS BROKE AND SO WAS THE OTHER FRONT. GRATEFUL THAT NOTHING HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHER SPEED
THE LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE WHILE STANDING IN OUR DRIVEWAY. PART OF IT SHOT IN TO THE SIDE OF OUR HOUSE. THANK GOD WE WEREN'T ON THE HIWAY AND HAVE THE BROKEN SPRING SHRED OUR TIRE. I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS OF THIS CAR MODEL'S SPRINGS BREAKING ON YOUR WEB SITE. WHY NO RECALL?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN VERSA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE NEAR THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DRIVE FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE MILE UNTIL THERE WAS ANOTHER LOUD POP HEARD FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WAS SLICED 360 DEGREES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPARE TIRE WAS INSTALLED AND THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRING FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY, AROUND 20 MPH, AND EXITING MY WORKPLACE WHEN I HEARD A SUDDEN LOUD NOISE (LIKE A CLANG) FROM THE FRONT AREA OF MY CAR. I THOUGHT I HAD HIT SOMETHING, BUT I STOPPED TO LOOK AND THERE WERE NO POT HOLES OR ANYTHING AROUND THE CAR THAT I COULD HAVE HIT. I TRIED TO CONTINUE HOME, AS I LIVE VERY CLOSE TO A SHOP AND WAS GOING TO HAVE THE CAR LOOKED AT... BUT LESS THAN A MILE LATER THE CAR BEGAN TO SMOKE FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED LAST NIGHT. TODAY I FOUND OUT IT WAS THE COIL SPRING, WHICH HAD SNAPPED OFF AND WAS DIGGING INTO MY TIRE. NOW I HAVE TO HAVE TO THE COIL REPLACED AND PURCHASE A NEW TIRE -- THE ONE I HAVE IS NEARLY SHREDDED. WHILE I'M DISAPPOINTED THAT I'M JUST OUTSIDE MY 5/60 WARRANTY (CURRENTLY AT APPROX. 63,000 MILES), I FEEL INCREDIBLY FORTUNATE THAT THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN ON THE INTERSTATE BECAUSE I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED BY THIS MALFUNCTION. THERE WAS NO WARNING THAT IT WAS ABOUT TO HAPPEN, I JUST HAPPENED TO BE GOING FAIRLY SLOW WHEN IT DID.
WHILE DRIVING ON A COUNTRY SIDE ROAD AT 40 MILES PER HOUR, PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRING BROKE WITHOUT WARNING AFTER A SMALL HILL TOP (WHILE THE CAR WAS COMPRESSING THE SUSPENSION) AND TORE THE SIDEWALL OF THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE. THE TIRE INSTANTLY DEFLATED, THE RIM PUNCHED HARD INTO THE GROUND RESULTING IN A TEMPORARY LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE MANAGED TO STAY ON THE ROAD. CAR WILL NEED A NEW RIGHT SUSPENSION AND SOME REPAIR TO THE FRONT BUMPER (SCRATCH MARKS).
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN VERSA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, AN ABNORMAL NOISE EMITTED FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND IT BEGAN TO BOUNCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE LEAF SPRING WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER ALSO SUGGESTED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE LEAF SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. IN ADDITION, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE CONTROL ARMS WERE REPLACED DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
THE COIL SPRING ON MY FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BROKE IN TWO AND THEN MOVED OUT OF PLACE TO DAMAGE AND EVENTUALLY POP MY TIRE (IN A MATTER OF MINUTES). THE EDGES OF THE BREAK ON THE SPRING ARE VERY JAGGED AND TORE AWAY THE RUBBER FROM MY TIRE AS I WAS DRIVING.
TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON MAIN ROAD UPHILL, CAR ROLLED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC WITHOUT AND WAY TO STOP. ROLLED CAR (BACKWARDS DOWN HILL) INTO CLOSEST PARKING LOT. DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED A FAILED TRANSMISSION. NISSAN IS AWARE OF ISSUES WITH THIS TRANSMISSION BUT WILL NOT RECALL OR MAKE ETHICAL ROUTE TO KEEP CONSUMER SAFETY A PRIORITY.
BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY I HEARD A GRINDING NOISE, AND WHEN I GOT DOWN TO THE STREET AND PUT IT INTO DRIVE, I HEARD A LOUD POP AND PING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE PASSENGER SIDE. PART OF THE PASSENGER SIDE SPRING HAD BROKEN OFF. I PULLED IT IMMEDIATELY BACK INTO THE DRIVEWAY. UPON INSPECTION, I FOUND A PIECE OF THE SPRING IN THE ROAD AND NOTED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS LOWER THAN THE OTHER. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK, HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AND THEY FOUND THAT THE SPRING HAD INDEED BROKEN OFF. THE SPRING WAS NOT RUSTY, IT IS CURRENTLY 6 YEARS OLD AND HAS ONLY 45K MILES ON IT. SINCE THERE ARE NO AFTERMARKET PARTS FOR THIS AND NISSAN SELLS SPRING, MOUNT, STRUT (NOT AN ASSEMBLY), THEY ARE FORCED TO PUT ON ALL NISSAN PARTS WHICH MAKES ME NERVOUS THAT IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. THE MECHANIC ADVISED I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING AS THE SPRING HAD GONE THROUGH THE STRUT AND WAS VERY CLOSE TO SHREDDING THE TIRE. UPON RESEARCHING THIS TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL, I COULD NOT BELIEVE THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS I FOUND ABOUT THE VERY SAME THING HAPPENING TO OTHER PEOPLE. I HOPE NISSAN STEPS UP OR IS FORCED TO DO A RECALL AND REIMBURSES ME, AS I HAD BOTH SIDES REPLACED AND IT COST ME $1266, NOT INCLUDING THE $80 FOR TOWING. SECOND TIME IN A MONTH A SUSPENSION COIL SPRING BROKE ON MY NISSON. FIRST ONE WAS THE PASSENGER FRONT SIDE AND ON SUNDAY THE DRIVE'S FRONT SIDE AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE GARAGE.
WHILE TRAVELLING AT SPEEDS OF 35-45 MPH NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM VEHICLE (DISTANCE TRAVELLED 2.2 MILES FROM ORIGIN). AFTER NOTICING SMOKE, IMMEDIATELY PROCEEDED TO SLOW DOWN IN ORDER TO PULLOVER TO SIDE OF ROAD. AS SOON AS BEGAN TO DECELERATE, HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND THE FRONT OF THE CAR DROPPED - THIS WAS DUE TO THE TIRE FAILING. ONCE PULLED OVER, WAS ABLE TO INSPECT AND DETERMINE THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRING HAD FAILED AND WAS CONTACTING THE TIRE. FAILURE POINT WAS APPROXIMATELY 9.25" (ALONG OUTSIDE EDGE) OF THE COIL SPRING MEASURED FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE COIL. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO LOCAL DEALER WHERE ALL REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED THE SAME DAY OF THE EVENT. DEALER REFERRED TO AN ONGOING NHTSA INVESTIGATION RELATED TO THIS FAILURE. EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY THE REPAIRS WERE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY (GOODWILL) DUE TO A LIKELY UPCOMING RECALL.
FIRST 3/4 OF PASSENGER SIDE COIL JUST SNAPPED OFF AND THE REST SHOT PAST THE SPRING SEAT ON THE WAY DOWN JUST BENDING THE BRAKE LINE NOT KINKING IT AND MISSED THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SENSOR WIRE. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION DRIVER SIDE COIL WAS SNAPPED IN AROUND THE SAME SPOT, JUST DIDN'T END UP OFF THE SPRING SEAT. 250 DOLLARS WORTH OF PARTS PLUS MECHANIC LABOR. LUCKILY IT BROKE IN THE DRIVEWAY. MECHANIC SAID I DEFINATELY WOULD HAVE GOTTEN IN AN ACCIDENT IF I WAS MOVING MORE THAN 30MPH.
DRIVING ALONG, HEARD A LOUD POP AS I TURNED ONTO A MAJOR ROADWAY. THE CAR WAS PULLING VERY BADLY TO THE LEFT SIDE AND COULD BARELY STOP THE VEHICLE. HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED HOME AND THE STRUTS REPLACED ON THE CAR. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON AND VERY COSTLY ISSUE. I WAS QUOTED $930 TO HAVE THIS ISSUE RESOLVED. NOT A HAPPY NISSAN OWNER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN VERSA. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE COIL SPRING FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE COIL SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, CODE WAS FOR A SMALL EVAP LEAK, NOTICED SMELL OF GAS FUMES INSIDE THE PASSENGER CABIN. INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOUND AND SHOWED ME A CRACKED FUEL PUMP HOUSING, ADDITIONALLY THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION WAS BLACK ON THE LEFTMOST PIN, EVIDENCE OF ARCING (SPARKING) FROM A SHORT/POOR CONNECTION BETWEEN CONTACTS.
DRIVING OUT OF PARKING LOT AROUND 10MPH, HEARD LOUD METALLIC CLANG FROM UNDER CAR. PULLED FORWARD, GOT OUT, NOTICED THAT FRONT OF CAR WAS RIDING 6" LOWER THAN NORMAL. TOOK TO MECHANIC, TOLD ME THAT COIL SPRING ON SUSPENSION SNAPPED. INFORMED THAT MANY 2009 VERSAS HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE.
MY NISSAN VERSA HAS HAD AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING COLUMN. IN 2011, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, I COMPLAINED ABOUT A POPPING SOUND IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION OF THE CAR ACCOMPANIED BY A SHIFTING SENSATION FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL. AFTER CHECKING THE CAR OVER SEVERAL TIMES, THE DEALER DISCOVERED A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING SHAFT AND REPLACED IT. TWO YEARS LATER, THE PROBLEM RESURFACED AND HAS GOTTEN MUCH WORSE OVER TIME. NOW, MY DEALER IS TELLING ME I NEED TO REPLACE THE STEERING SHAFT AGAIN - BUT I HAVE TO PAY THIS TIME. I'VE NOT YET HIT 70,000 MILES AND NEED A THIRD STEERING SHAFT? SOUNDS LIKE A PARTS OR DESIGN PROBLEM TO ME! NISSAN SHOULD REPLACE IT.
CAR WAS SETTING IN THE PARKING LOT. OPENED THE DOOR TO GET IN. HEARD SOMETHING HIT THE PAVEMENT. LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND FOUND PART OF THE LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING ON THE GROND.
I BACKED MY CAR OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY YESTERDAY MORNING ON MAY WAY TO WORK AND HEARD A LOUD THUMPING AND MOANING THAT WAS NOT PRESENT THE DAY BEFORE. AFTER I DROVE AROUND THE BLOCK, THE NOISE CONTINUED SO I TOOK ANOTHER CAR TO WORK AND TOOK THE NISSAN TO MY MECHANIC WHEN I GOT HOME FROM WORK. THE RIGHT FRONT COIL SPRING HAD BROKEN AND COLLAPSED ONTO MY TIRE. THE RIGHT FRONT STRUT WAS ALSO LEAKING. MY MECHANIC CHECKED THE LEFT SIDE AND THE COIL SPRING WAS FRACTURED BUT HAD NOT COLLAPSED YET. THE STRUT ON THAT SIDE OF THE CAR IS ALSO LEAKING. I CALLED MY NISSAN GARAGE (KENNY ROSS NISSAN IN ZELIENOPLE, PA) AND THEY SAID THEY WERE UNAWARE OF ANY ISSUES SO I AM HAVING MY MECHANIC REPLACE THE STRUTS AND COIL SPRINGS ON BOTH SIDES, FOR SAFETY PURPOSES.
I WAS IN A PARKING LOT, STOPPED. THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE AND MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. SUDDENLY THERE WAS A LOUD METAL CRASH SOUND. THE CAR JOLTED SLIGHTLY, LIKE SOMETHING HIT THE CAR. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND SAW A PIECE OF THE FRONT LEFT SUSPENSION COIL SPRING BEHIND MY FRONT LEFT TIRE. THE SPRING HAD BROKEN AT THE END, ABOUT HALF WAY AROUND THE FIRST COIL ON THE BOTTOM. I FEEL THAT IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELLING AT SPEED, THIS DEFECT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE TIRE TO FAIL, AND I COULD HAVE POTENTIALLY LOST CONTROL.
NAVIGATING SLOW, 90' LEFT TURN, HEARD METALLIC OBJECT SLIDING ACROSS ROADWAY BEHIND US. UPON INVESTIGATION FOUND THE BOTTOM 3/4 RING OF THE FRONT DRIVERS SPRING SNAPPED OFF. VERY SMALL RUSTED PIT VISIBLE, THE REST OF THE TEAR APPEARS TO HAVE OCCURRED ALL AT ONCE - NO AGING EVIDENT ON THE EXPOSED METAL. ESTIMATE TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT STRUTS AND SPRINGS IS $982.
PART OF THE COIL SPRING BROKE FROM MY 2009 NISSAN VERSA AND FELL OFF IN MY DRIVEWAY. WHEN I EXPLORED WHERE IT HAD COME FROM I REALIZED THAT BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS HAD SNAPPED OFF AT THE BOTTOM. THE FIRST PIECE OF BROKEN COIL SPRING I DID NOT REALIZE HAD COME OFF AND THE SECOND ONE LUCKILY BROKE OFF WHILE IN THE DRIVEWAY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN VERSA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD ABNORMAL SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
ON TV (ABC 7 CHICAGO) THERE WAS A REPORT THAT STATED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG ON VEHICLES THAT WERE MADE BEFORE 2010. THE AIR BAGS SUDDENLY EXPLODE WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT MY CAR IS SAFE WHEN I AM DRIVING.
WHILE PULLING OUT OF MY GARAGE AND HAVING GONE NO MORE THAN 3 FEET I HEARD A VERY LOUD SNAP AND A GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. HAVING READ ABOUT THE SPRING ISSUE I KNEW WHAT IT WAS AND IMMEDIATELY BACKED UP INTO THE GARAGE. HAD THIS HAPPENED 15 MINUTES LATER I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 55 MPH AND PROBABLY ROLLED THE CAR. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR NISSAN NOT ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE. THEY KNOW OF THE PROBLEM AND I SEE THAT THE 2010 VERSAS ALSO HAVE THE PROBLEM. MY DEALER IS WELL AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND STOCKS THE SPRINGS. I REPLACED BOTH SPRINGS AT THE SAME TIME TO SAVE FURTHER GRIEF. THERE IS ALSO NO EXCUSE FOR THE NHTSA AND DOT FOR NOT FORCING A RECALL ON THE SPRINGS. I GUESS THEY WISH TO KILL A FEW PEOPLE FIRST.
RIGHT FRONT COIL SPRING SNAPPED. BURST THE TIRE. HAD TO BE TOWED TO NISSAN DEALER. BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS WITHIN 1000 MILES, VEHICLE ONLY HAS 31000 MILES ON IT. FAULTY PART. COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. (HAVE MADE A COMPLAINT FOR EACH SPRING ON THIS SITE.)
CAR WAS BOUNCING AND MAKING LOUD CLUNK NOISES. FRONT SPRINGS WERE FOUND TO HAVE BEEN BROKEN . BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT SUSPENSION SPRINGS WERE BROKEN IN TWO PIECES. MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BROKEN SPRINGS HAD POTENTIAL TO PUNCTURE THE TIRES. THE SPRINGS SEEM TO HAVE BROKEN ON RUSTY PART OF THE SPRINGS. ONCE THEY ARE BROKEN THEY CAN TWIST ON THE STRUT AND GET IN THE WAY OF TIRE AND OTHER PARTS NEAR THE WHEELS. THE SPRING AT THE BROKEN SECTION WAS SEVERED TO MAKE A VERY SHARP EDGE.BOTH SPRINGS WERE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $702.22. *TR
AFTER SMELLING RUBBER BURNING AND THE CAR NOT HANDLING CORRECTLY. I CHECKED THE SUSPENSION TO FIND BOTH COIL SPRINGS (PASSENGER AND DRIVERS SIDE) WERE BROKEN. THE DRIVERS SIDE BROKEN COIL WAS APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE INSIDE WALL OF THE TIRE WEARING A LARGE GROOVE IN THE ENTIRE DIAMETER OF THE TIRE. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY AND MUST BE ADDRESSED BY NISSAN AND OR THE SUPPLIER OF THE SPRINGS. THE REPAIR WAS EXPENSIVE (COIL, STRUTS AND A TIRE). *TR
I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND THERE WAS A LOUD BANG UNDER THE CAR. I STOPPED THE CAR AND GOT OUT. A 6 INCH SECTION OF THE DRIVERS'S SIDE FRONT COIL SPRING WAS LAYING ON THE DRIVEWAY. *TR
CAR WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY AND UPON GOING IN REVERSE NOTICED A PIECE OF METAL ON DRIVEWAY WHERE THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE WAS WHEN CAR WAS PARKED. IT LOOKED LIKE A PIECE OF THE COIL SUSPENSION AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION FOUND THAT IT HAD BROKEN OFF FROM FRONT PASSENGER COIL SPRING. THE PIECE WAS NOT CORRODED. I AM HAPPY I WASN'T IN MOTION WHEN THIS BROKE, HIGHLY UNUSUAL FOR SUCH A PART JUST TO BREAK OFF BY ITSELF. WHY ISN'T THE GOVERNMENT LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE? *TR
HIT 40 THOUSAND MILES 3 DAYS PRIOR TO INCIDENT. PULLED OUT OF GARAGE AND HEARD AN AWFUL GRIND, PULLED ANOTHER 3 FEET AND THE FRONT END FELL TO THE GROUND. UPON INSPECTION BOTH COIL SPRINGS (NOT AT ALL RUSTED) BUSTED. I AM ROUGHLY A 60 YEAR OLD DRIVER THAT HAS HAD THIS VEHICLE FROM THE DAY IT WAS NEW. I WORK 4 MILES FROM HOME AND FORTUNATELY DON'T REALLY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO OVER 35 MILES PER HOUR. CAN NOT IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED DRIVING AT 60 MPH AND HAVING THE FRONT END AT THE SAME TIME COME TO A SCREECHING HALT? THIS MORNING WHEN I DROVE TO WORK AND CAME INTO THE PARKING GARAGE I NOTICED A LOUD NOISE MAKING MY VERSA S HATCHBACK SOUND LIKE A MONSTER TRUCK. I DROVE IT HOME ABOUT 15 MILES AND INSPECTED IT. APPEARS THE INCOMING MUFFLER PIPE "DISCONNECTED" FROM THE GASKET WITH A FAIRLY CLEAN BREAK. THIS HAPPENED ON THE SIDE OF THE MUFFLER CLOSER TO THE ENGINE AND FURTHEST AWAY FROM THE BACK OF THE HATCHBACK. CAUSING LOUD NOISE, SEEMS TO BE WORSE WHEN IDLED AT A STOP LIGHT/SIGN. FOUND A FORUM ONLINE THAT STATES THIS HAPPENS IN NORTHERN CLIMATES (I LIVE IN MI) AND A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE ACTUALLY EXPERIENCED SOONER THAN I DID. *TR

TAKATA RECALL. DRIVERS AIR BAG HAS STILL NOT BEEN REPLACED. NISSAN ADVISES THAT THE REPLACEMENT BAGS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. THIS RECALL HAS BEEN IN EFFECT SINCE 2015 ANS STILL NO ACTION BY NISSAN.
NISSAN VERSA 2009 TWO (2) BROKE SPRINGS IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS. THE SECOND BROKE SPRING WAS THE FRONT LEFT SPRING, IT BROKE WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN AT ABOUT 5MPH. *TR
