2005 NISSAN XTERRA FUEL GAUGE SLOWLY SHOWS THE AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE CAR (APPROXIMATELY AN HOUR AFTER FILLING UP THE TANK). FROM MANY FORUMS THE PROBLEMS IS OBVIOUS AND THERE IS A NEED FOR A RECALL BY NISSAN. THE FUEL SENDING UNIT IN THE VEHICLE IS DEFECTIVE ON ALL NISSAN XTERRA'S PLATFORM (INCLUDING FRONTIER & PATHFINDER) AFTER 40K MILES ON THE CAR. THE COST OF SUCH REPAIR BY DEALERS AMOUNTS TO $600 DOLLARS FOR PARTS AND LABOR. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA AND HAD TO GET THE AXLE OR SOMETHING UNDER THE TRUCK WELDED AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THE PART THAT WAS RECALLED. *TR
CAR STARTED RUNNING POORLY AND USING MORE GAS. SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. *TR
FUEL GAUGE IN VEHICLE WORKS OCCASIONALLY. THIS MAKES IT HARD TO TELL ACTUAL FUEL LEVEL. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT HAPPENS IN THE SAME VEHICLE OF OTHER YEARS, AND A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THEM. *TR
INTERNAL RADIATOR FAILURE THAT LED TO A TRANSMISSION FAILURE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. I HAD THE RADIATOR REPLACED AT A COST OF $1,300.00 BY THE NISSAN DEALER WHERE THEY ASSURED ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FINE. A MONTH LATER I PAID $5,000.00 TO AAMCO TO HAVE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION REBUILT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO COUNTLESS 2005 PATHFINDERS AND XTERRAS. NISSAN WILL NOT PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE OR MAKE A RECALL. NISSAN NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE! *CN
2005 NISSAN XTERRA FUEL LEVEL SENSOR MALFUNCTION. WITH MIS-READING ON THE FUEL LEVEL, THE VEHICLE MAY RUN OUT OF FUEL WHEN IT APPEARS TO HAVE PLENTY OF FUEL IN THE TANK, CAUSING A SAFETY HAZARD. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON '05+ NISSAN XTERRA AND PATHFINDER SUV'S. THESE ARE USUALLY CORRELATED WITH A PO463 EMISSION FAILURE CODE. *TR
MY NISSAN XTERRA IS HAVING A FUEL GAUGE/SENSOR PROBLEM WHICH RESULTS IN THE DRIVER HAVING NO IDEA HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN THE GAS TANK. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON NISSAN XTERRAS, PATHFINDERS AND FRONTIERS. ALL ONE NEEDS TO DO IS AN INTERNET SEARCH TO SEE HOW COMMON THIS PROBLEM IS. NISSAN HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL AND WILL NOT COOPERATE WITH ME IN GETTING THIS FIXED. THE COST OF THE REPAIR IS BETWEEN $300-500 (MOST OF WHICH IS LABOR) AND A VEHICLE CAN NOT PASS INSPECTION IF THEY HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE ALREADY RUN OUT OF GAS IN A NOT SO NICE AREA WHILE GOING 55 MPH AND CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE/GETTING IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WAS DIFFICULT WHEN IT WAS OUT OF GAS. I WAS FEARFUL OF NOT ONLY THE DIFFICULTY IN HANDLING/DEALING WITH THE VEHICLE IN A SAFE MANNER SO AS TO NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT BUT IMAGINE MY SURPRISE THAT WAS OUT OF GAS AND I COULD NOT TELL BECAUSE OF THE FAULTY SENSOR NOT INDICATING ACTUALLY HOW MUCH GAS WAS IN THE CAR. I WAS FEARFUL FOR MY SAFETY BECAUSE THIS HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY IN A NOT SO NICE AREA IN THE METRO NYC AREA. ALL ONE NEEDS TO DO IS AN INTERNET SEARCH ON NISSAN FUEL GAUGE OR SENSOR PROBLEMS AND WILL SEE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. NISSAN HAS RECALLED EARLIER MODELS FOR THIS SAME ISSUE BUT HAS NOT RECALLED ANY VEHICLES FROM 2005 ON FOR THIS DEFECTIVE PROBLEM. A NISSAN MECHANIC AT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM ON XTERRAS, PATHFINDERS AND FRONTIERS AND WISHED ME GOOD LUCK IN GETTING NISSAN TO FIX IT UNDER A RECALL SINCE HE THOUGHT IT WAS HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT NISSAN WOULD DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THEY WERE NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME THAT NISSAN WILL NOT REPAIR THIS ISSUE SINCE THERE IS NO RECALL ON IT EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON THEIR VEHICLES. *TR
2005 NISSAN XTERRA FUEL SENDING UNITE/SENSOR CORROSION CAUSING MALFUNCTION OF GAS GAUGE AND TURNING ON SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT. POSSIBLE RECALL WAS DONE ON 2000-2004 MODELS WHY NOT ON 2005. MALFUNCTION STARTS AT 39K-47K CAUSING DISTRACTION AND PANIC TO THE DRIVER. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 XTERRA WITH AROUND 50K MILES ON IT. THE DOWN TO EMPTY MILEAGE HAS RECENTLY NOT BEEN CALCULATING AND LAST NIGHT WHEN I WENT TO FILL UP THE NEEDLE WOULDN'T RAISE TO A FULL TANK. THIS MORNING MY SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON AND HASN'T GONE OFF SINCE. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ONLINE ONLY TO FIND THAT SEVERAL OTHER 2005 XTERRA OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. IT SUPPOSEDLY HAS TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENSOR UNIT. THIS HAS BEEN RECALLED IN PRIOR MODELS OF THE XTERRA. I AM HOPING THAT I AM NOT GOING TO HAVE TO PAY OVER 600$ TO GET THIS FIXED CONSIDERING IT IS DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE SUDDEN STOPS AND/OR FIRE. *TR
I OWN A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA. I HAVE HAD A CODE THAT READS P0463 THAT HAS CAUSED MY SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT ON. THE FUEL LEVEL GAUGE IS MALFUNCTIONING AND IT IS MISREADING THE LEVEL OF FUEL THAT I ACTUALLY HAVE. HOW IS THIS NOT A RECALL ISSUE. INSTEAD I HAVE TO PAY 600 DOLLARS TO HELP PREVENT ME FROM RUNNING OUT OF FUEL ON THE HIGHWAY AND CREATING A DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
FUEL SENSOR HAS GONE OUT AT 57,000 MILES. THIS CAUSES THE GAS GAUGE NOT TO WORK OR WORK VERY SLOWLY. IN TAKING IT TO DEALER, FIX IS 475.00. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS AND IT SEEMS ALL NISSAN SUV EXPERIENCE THIS. I ASKED DEALER ABOUT THIS AND HE SAID THERE WAS A BULLETIN, BUT IT RECOMMENDED BUYING A BETTER PART. *TR
PLEASE HELP! MY FUEL SENSOR IS FAILING. MY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON NOW AND THE REPAIR FOR THIS IS EXPENSIVE. I RECEIVED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY IN THE MAIL FOR 72,000 MILES FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. I CALLED NISSAN DIRECTLY BECAUSE MY MILEAGE WAS PAST THIS AND THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON FAILURE IN XTERRAS AND THEY SAID THEY COULD DO NOTHING FOR ME. THERE IS A NISSAN SERVICE BULLETIN NTB07-069B IN EXISTENCE, BUT NOT A RECALL. SINCE THEY WOULDN'T HELP ME, MY LIGHT WAS ON LONG BEFORE I HIT 72,000 MILES, AND THIS IS SUCH A COMMON PROBLEM IN THESE VEHICLES, I FEEL STRONGLY THAT NISSAN SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. I HAVE HIGH MILEAGE ON MY CAR BECAUSE MY FAMILY LIVES 6 HOURS AWAY AND I DRIVE TO SEE THEM FREQUENTLY. IS THERE ANY THING YOU CAN DO TO HELP ME? PLEASE? *TR
IN MY 2005 NISSAN XTERRA, MY FUEL GAUGE BEGAN NOT READING CORRECTLY ONCE IT GOT BELOW 1/4 TANK. WHEN I FILL IT UP, IT DOESN'T ALWAYS REGISTER THAT I PUT GAS IN. NOW MY SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON FOR DAYS AT A TIME. IT WILL GO OFF FOR A FEW DAYS, THEN COME ON AGAIN. *TR
MY 2005 XTERRA CHECK ENGINE LIGHT JUST WENT ON AND AFTER TESTING MY ECU I RECEIVED ERROR CODE P0463, WHICH IS A FAULTY FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CONDITIONS FOR PEOPLE TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEED WHO ARE UNDER THE IMPRESSION THEY STILL HAVE GAS IN THEIR TANK WHEN IN FACT THEY DO NOT. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA; AND A FEW MONTHS AGO, THE GAS GAUGE STOPPED ACCURATELY REPORTING THE LEVEL OF GAS IN THE TANK. IN ADDITION, THE "SERVICE" LIGHT CAME ON (AND STAYED ON) PREVENTING ME FROM PASSING INSPECTION. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER OCCURRENCES OF THIS PROBLEM WITH VARIOUS NISSAN MODELS IN THE "2005" (ETC) YEAR. THIS IS A RELATIVELY EXPENSIVE REPAIR (APPROXIMATELY $500) FOR A FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT REPLACEMENT; AND IF NOT REPAIRED, WE WHO HAVE THIS PROBLEM ALL RUN THE RISK OF RUNNING OUT OF GAS, POSSIBLY UNDER DANGEROUS HIGH SPEED ROAD CONDITIONS! DESPITE THE FACT THAT THIS IS APPARENTLY A "FAULTY PART" SUPPLIED BY NISSAN, THE COMPANY HAS NOT OFFERED TO POST A RECALL AND/OR PAY FOR THIS REPAIR. WITH THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS, AND THE POSSIBLE DANGEROUS REPERCUSSIONS OF NOT KNOWING WHEN THE VEHICLE WILL RUN OUT OF GAS, I BELIEVE THAT NISSAN SHOULD REPLACE THIS PART AT NO CHARGE TO THE CONSUMER. *TR
FIRST PROBLEM - WHEN I HAD 53,000 MI ON IT, IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, IT STARTED CUTTING OUT AND WOULDN'T ACCELERATE AT ALL, HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER TO FIND OUT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS BAD. THEY SAID THAT HE RADIATOR LEAKED, FLOODING MY TRANSMISSION WITH COOLANT AND RUINED MY TRANSMISSION. THEY REFUSED TO HONOR THE WARRANTY STATING THAT "THE TRANMISSION DID NOT FAIL - THE RADIATOR DID (WHICH WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY) THEREFORE THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT COVERED". I HAD TO LET THEM REPLACE THE RADIATOR AND FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION 3 TIMES - IT COST ME $1,400 OUT OF POCKET - NOW HERE I AM 30,000 MILES LATER AND MY REVERSE WILL NOT WORK AT ALL, MY TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACED. SO I HAD PAID 1,400 JUST TO BUY MYSELF AN YEAR & A HALF AND NOW I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. 2ND PROBLEM - I HAVE THE FUEL GAUGE/SENSOR PROBLEM, ALSO. I FILLED UP ONE DAY, GOT IN MY CAR AND GAUGE READ EMPTY & CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I HAD A RIP-OFF MECHANIC CHARGE ME $170 TO REPLACE THE SENSOR - NOTHING EVER CHANGED, GAUGE IS STILL BROKE AND LIGHT IS STILL ON. NISSAN IS SO WRONG FOR NOT HANDLING THEIR PROBLEMS, CONSUMERS DESERVE TO BE TREATED FAIRLY. THERE SHOULD BE A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST THEM - JUST READ THESE COMPLAINT BOARDS. SOMEHOW I HAVE BOTH OF THE MOST COMMON PROBLEMS WITH THESE VEHICLES.
NO SPECIFIC EVENTS LEADING TO FAILURE. STANDARD USE OF THE 2005 NISSAN XTERRA AND THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED AT APPROXIMATELY 70K MILES ON THE CAR.. THE FAILURE IS THE FUEL SENSOR GAUGE WHICH CAUSES THE GAS GAUGE TO BE INACCURATE AT ALL TIMES. IT WILL GO FROM FULL TO EMPTY IN 1 SECOND WHILE YOU ARE HEADED DOWN THE ROAD. OTHER TIMES IT WILL SHOW HALF TANK WHEN THE TANK IS EMPTY. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME WE ARE IN THE CAR. CONSEQUENCES COULD BE FATAL IF WE HAD NOT CAUGHT ON TO THE ISSUE. AT ANY POINT WE RUN THE RISK OF RUNNING OUT OF GAS DUE TO AN ERROR IN THE WAY THE GAUGE IS READING.. WE ARE FORCED TO TRACK MILES ON THE ODOMETER EACH TIME WE FILL UP. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE BY ME AT THIS POINT. NISSAN HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE BY RECALLING 2006+ MODELS AND EXTENDING THE WARRANTY TO 72K MILES ON THE 2005 MODELS. OUR CAR NOW HAS 90K MILES ON IT SO WE DO NOT MEET EITHER OF THEIR "SAFETY" FIXES. *TR

A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE 2000-2004 XTERRA MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AFTER NOT GETTING ANY FUEL, POSING A GREAT DANGER. THERE IS A GENERAL CONSENSUS THAT EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE PROBLEM IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 YRS AND WITH AROUND 39K-49K. IF THIS PROBLEM EXISTED IN PREVIOUS MODELS, AND IT WAS RECALLED, THE 2005-2007 XTERRAS, FRONTIERS, AND PATHFINDERS SHOULD GET THIS FIXED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER!! WHY WAIT FOR ACCIDENTS AND POSSIBLE DEATHS, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE PROBLEM LIES IN AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE VEHICLE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION. *TR
FUEL SENDING UNIT BREAKS AT 47K MILES, NISSAN DEALER IS USED TO THE PROBLEM AND SAYS IT IS $550.00 TO REPLACE. NISSAN SHOULD RECALL UNITS AND FIX THEM WHEN THEY ARE FAULTY. *TR
2005 NISSAN EXTERRA. FUEL SENSOR LIGHT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND WILL COST 350.00 TO REPLACE! WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION WITHOUT REPAIR. *TR

2005 NISSAN XTERRA. AT 40000 MILES IT IS COMMON FOR THIS MODEL TO HAVE THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR FAIL. THIS CAN CAUSE DISABLED VEHICLES DUE TO VEHICLES RUNNING OUT OF GAS. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL VEHICLE AND THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT REFUSES TO ASSIST OR EVEN WARN OWNERS OF THE POTENTIAL PROBLEMS. NISSAN RECALLED 2001-2003 MODELS FOR THE SAME ISSUE, BUT CONTINUE TO USE THE SAME FAULTY PART. NISSAN OR A MECHANIC MUST REMOVED THE GAS TANK TO GET TO THE FUEL PUMP AND THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. IT EVEN REQUIRES A SPECIAL TOOL TO REMOVE THIS UNIT. TOTAL COST OF REPAIR BETWEEN $550 & $600 FOR A $90.00 PART. *TR

205 NISSAN XTERRA. AT APPROX 65,000MI, FUEL GAUGE STARTED GOING TO EMPTY AFTER FILLING THE TANK AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER 40-60 MILES DRIVEN, FUEL GAUGE BEGINS TO READ AGAIN, BUT IS INACCURATE. *TR
FUEL LEVEL SENSOR HAS FAILED, AND RETURNS ERRONEOUS RESULTS MISREPRESENTING THE LEVEL OF GASOLINE/FUEL AVAILABLE. WHILE NOT A HIGHLY CRITICAL ISSUE TO THE VEHICLE ITSELF, THIS IS STILL A THREAT TO VEHICLE OCCUPANTS AS THERE IS A DANGER OF RUNNING OUT OF GAS AND BEING STRANDED IN A REMOTE LOCATION AND/OR IN AN UNSAFE ENVIRONMENT WITH LITTLE OR NO WARNING. *TR
FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT. NISSAN HAS HAD CRONIC PROBLEMS WITH FIVE DIFFERENT MODELS OVER THE PAST FIVE YEARS. CONTACTED NISSAN WITH NO SUCESS. THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM THAT NISSAN SHOULD COVER. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA. I WENT TO THE GAS STATION TO FILL UP MY TANK WHEN THE PUMP CLICKED OFF I PUT THE GAS CAP BACK ON UNTIL IT CLICKED. I PROCEED TO START THE XTERRA AND NOTICED THE GAS GAUGE DID NOT MOVE. FINALLY AFTER DRIVING 45 MILES THE GAUGE MOVED TO THE FULL POSITION. I THOUGHT THIS WAS A ONE TIME OCCURANCE BUT IT PROCEED TO HAPPEN AGAIN AND THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. DOING RESEACH ON THE WEB I FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON OCCURANCE ON 2005 AND BEYOND XTERRAS. HAVING MADE APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER TO GET THIS FIXED IT APPEARS THAT I WILL HAVE TO GET FUEL SENDING UNIT REPLACED AT A COST TO ME OF $600. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH I FOUND THAT A RECALL WAS DONE ON 2001 - 2004 XTERRAS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AT NO COST TO THEIR OWNERS. I FEE THAT NISSAN HAS NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM AND THAT THIS RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO XTERRAS MADE BEYOND 2004. IN TODAY'S ECONOMIC ENVIRONMENT EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS AND PAYING FOR SOMETHING THAT WAS NOT CORRECTED IS UNECESSARY. *TR
2005 NISSAN XTERRA'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE TO HAVE THEM CHECK THE ERROR CODES AND THE TEST RESULTED WITH A P0463 CODE (FUEL LEVEL SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT). I HAVE NOTICES PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL GAUGE BEING STUCK ON EMPTY WITH LOW FUEL INDICATOR LIGHT ON EVEN AFTER FILLING TANK TO FULL. AFTER DRIVING FOR FEW DAYS THE GAUGE EVENTUALLY AND SLOWLY BEGIN TO INDICATE FUEL. I'VE SINCE READ MANY FORUMS ON NISSAN SUV'S THAT HAVE SAME ISSUE. *TR
OWN A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA, AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AROUND 50,000 MILES. I RESEARCHED CODE AND IT IS THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR IS MALFUNCTIONING. CONSEQUENCES ARE I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT MY GAS LEVEL IS AT AND THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON MY VEHICLE ANYMORE. *TR
FUEL GAUGE RECALL - NISSAN I OWN A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA, THAT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECENT RECALL FOR NISSAN VEHICLES WITH THE FUEL GAUGE PROBLEM. MY PROBLEM WAS ON 04/06/2009, AND COST ME $443.65+TAX TO HAVE FIXED. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN, AND ALL I GOT WAS "A CALL BACK IN 3 WEEKS" RESPONSE. 2005 NISSAN XTERRA. HAVE APPROX 43K MILES ON IT AND THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT HAS COME ON. I TOOK IT IN TO A NISSAN DEALER IN OCEANSIDE, CA AND WAS TOLD THAT I NEED A NEW FUEL SENSOR. THE CURRENT FUEL SENSOR IN MY CAR MUST BE FINE SINCE I HAVE HAD ZERO PROBLEMS WITH MY FUEL READINGS. THERE HAS BEEN ZERO CHANGE IN DRIVEABILITY, BUT NISSAN IS TRYING TO STICK ME FOR $515 FOR A NEW SENSOR, I DECLINED THE SERVICE. THIS COMPLAINT IS ABOUT MY NISSAN XTERA 2005. I HAD 1/8 OF A TANK OF GAS AND WENT TO FILL UP. AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK, I TURNED ON THE CAR, AT WHICH POINT THE NEEDLE DID NOT REGISTER THE FULL TANK. AFTER DRIVING A COUPLE MILES, THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON EVEN THOUGH MY NEXT SERVICE WAS NOT DUE YET. I WENT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A FUEL SENDING UNIT/SENSOR PROBLEM AND THAT IT NOT IN WARRANTY. AFTER RETURNING HOME AND DOING RESEARCH, I WENT ONLINE TO X.NISSANHELP.COM AFTER PERFORMING A SEARCH, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE 2000-2004 XTERRA MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AFTER NOT GETTING ANY FUEL, POSING A GREAT DANGER. IT SEEMS THAT SOMETHING IN THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND WILL CORRODE OVER TIME. THERE IS A GENERAL CONSENSUS THAT EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE PROBLEM IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 YRS AND WITH AROUND 39K-49K. IF THIS PROBLEM EXISTED IN PREVIOUS MODELS, AND IT WAS RECALLED, THE 2005-2007 XTERRAS, FRONTIERS, AND PATHFINDERS SHOULD GET THIS FIXED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER!! I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA WITH 45K AND THE FUEL NEEDLE GOES TO "E" AND THEN FLUCTUATES UP TO HALF THEN GOES DOWN AGAIN. THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V517000 (COMPONENT: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED IN REGARDS TO REIMBURSEMENT AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

TRANSMISSION CONTINUED VIBRATION AND BEGAN SLAMMING AGAIN 3 MOS. LATER. 6 MOS. LATER ENGINE OVERHEATED , HAD TOWED. ENGINE WAS BAD DUE TO OVERHEATING FROM RADIATOR ASSEMBLY FAULT NISSAN DESCRIBES. REBUILT ENGINE, NEW TIMING CHAIN AND TIMING CONTROL VALVE, AND NEW RADIATOR. STILL CANNOT DRIVE VEHICLE- SEVERE TRANSMISSION SLAMMING GEARS, VEHICLE STALLS WHEN YOU TAKE FOOT OFF GAS, OIL PRESSURE GAUGE GOES TO BOTTOM WHEN FOOT OFF GAS AND UP WHEN YOU DEPRESS. SINCE, NISSAN HAS EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 80K FOR RADIATOR ASSEMBLY CAN CRACK AND INTERNAL LEAKAGE OF COOLANT MIXES WITH TRANSMISSION FLUIDS. I AM NOT COVERED THEY SAY, BUT IF I HAD BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS 2 YEARS AGO I WOULD HAVE BEEN. THEIR LETTER SPECIFICALLY STATES THAT IT CAN OCCUR AT "HIGHER MILEAGES". I WANT NISSAN TO REIMBURSE ME COSTS INCURRED AND FIX MY TRANSMISSION. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A VEHICLE ON AND OFF FOR 8 MOS.
