WE HAVE A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA AND AM HAVING THE SAME FUEL SENSOR ISSUE AS SO MANY OTHERS. WE FILL UP AND THE GAS GAUGE DOES NOT REGISTER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND THIS CAUSES US TO NOT PASS EMISSIONS UNTIL IT IS FIXED, WHICH IS A 600.00+ ISSUE SINCE THE GAS TANK NEEDS REMOVED TO FIX IT. VERY FRUSTRATING SINCE A SIMPLE SEARCH OF THE WEB SHOWS HUNDREDS OF NISSANS IN OR AROUND 1 YEAR DIFFERENCE WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM! NISSAN RECALLS MORE THAN 500,000 VEHICLES REGARDING:FUEL GAUGE PROBLEM, SOURCE OF MANY COMPLAINTS, BEING ADDRESSED I CALLED MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER, THEY REPORTED THAT MY 2005 XTERRA VIN# WASN'T PART OF THE RECALL. *TR
FOLLOWING IS A COMPLAINT ALREADY FILED AND RECEIVED BY YOUR OFFICE: "I HAD 1/4 OF A TANK OF GAS AND WENT TO FILL UP. AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK, I TURNED ON THE CAR, AT WHICH POINT THE NEEDLE DID NOT REGISTER THE FULL TANK. AFTER DRIVING A COUPLE MILES, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WENT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A FUEL SENDING UNIT/SENSOR AND THAT IT WAS NO LONGER COVERED AFTER 30K MILES. AFTER RETURNING HOME AND DOING RESEARCH, I WENT ONLINE TO X.NISSANHELP.COM AFTER PERFORMING A SEARCH; I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE 2000-2004 XTERRA MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AFTER NOT GETTING ANY FUEL, POSING A GREAT DANGER. IT SEEMS THAT SOMETHING IN THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND WILL CORRODE OVER TIME. THERE IS A GENERAL CONSENSUS THAT EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE PROBLEM IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 YRS AND WITH AROUND 39K-49K. IF THIS PROBLEM EXISTED IN PREVIOUS MODELS, AND IT WAS RECALLED, THE 2005-2007 XTERRA, FRONTIERS, AND PATHFINDERS SHOULD GET THIS FIXED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER!! WHY WAIT FOR ACCIDENTS AND POSSIBLE DEATHS, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE PROBLEM LIES IN AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE VEHICLE. COST OF REPAIR RANGES FROM $300-600. I HAD A VERY SIMILAR EXPERIENCE WHILE TRAVELING ACROSS THE COUNTRY WHEN MY ODOMETER HIT 39950+/- MILES. THIS IS EVIDENTIALLY A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THE XTERRAS, PATHFINDERS AND TITANS ALL MADE BY NISSAN. WHILE THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE AT FACE VALUE, A MISREADING OF THE FUEL GAUGE COULD VERY LIKELY PUT A LONE OCCUPANT IN A VERY BAD SITUATION LEADING TO ANY NUMBER OF THREATENING SITUATIONS. THE FACT THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, YET REFUSES TO ADDRESS IT REGARDLESS OF THE POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES WOULD SEEM TO INDICATE, AT THE VERY LEAST , A DISREGARD FOR THEIR CUSTOMER'S SAFETY. *TR

FUEL GAGE IS NOT ACCURATE AND ERRATIC SOMETIMES, WHEN FULL TANK IT SHOWS ONLY 3/4 ON THE GAGE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON
2005 NISSAN XTERRA, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AT 1/4 TANK OF FUEL. GIVES TROUBLE CODE P0463. AFTER CHECKING WITH OTHER OWNERS ON INTERNET, THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM THAT THE MANUFACTURE IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX. *TR
NORMAL OPERATION OF VEHICLE. THE FUEL LEVEL WAS MIS READING LEVEL OF FUEL, SOON AFTERWARDS AN ERROR CODE P0463 (FUEL LEVEL SENSOR MALFUNCTION) ON YOUR 2ND GEN X HAS OCCURRED. IT HAS BEEN CONSTANTLY READING THE ERROR. I CHECK THE FUSE BOX AND RESET THE CPU, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL REMAINS. COST TO REPLACE IS $600.00 WHICH I CAN NOT AFFORD. I AM WRITING THIS TO PRESSURE NISSAN TO RECALL AND REPLACE THIS PART. MY CAR HAS NOW 58K MILES ON THE ODOMETER. *TR
THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE FUEL GAUGE WAS NOT WORKING. I WOULD FILL UP THE GAS TANK AND THE GAUGE WOULD SAY IT WAS EMPTY. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD WITH 55000 MILES ON IT WHEN IT STARTED TO HAVE THIS ISSUE. I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AND IT COST 400.00 TO HAVE THE FUEL SENSOR REPLACED. THE MECHANIC ACKNOWLEDGED THAT HE HAS CHANGED THE FUELS SENSOR NUMEROUS TIMES AND NISSAN HAS REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT WITH THE NISSAN XTERRA. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. IT WAS A BAD FUEL SENDING UNIT. I HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED. MANY OTHERS I KNOW HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TOO. IT WAS $350 TO REPLACE. *TR
THERE WAS A LOUD RUMBLE AND JERKING WHILE DRIVING AT 35MPH. FLUID WAS LEAKING BADLY ALSO. I TOOK THE CAR TO NISSAN ON ON APRIL 21, 2008. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AGAIN, THE CAR STARTED JERKING AND MAKING LOUD RUMBLES. I TOOK IT BACK TO NISSAN AND THEY SAID THE U JOINTS WERE BAD AND REPLACED THEM. AS SOON AS I PULLED OUT OF THEIR PARKING AREA, THE CAR DID THE SAME THING. SO, I TOOK IT BACK AGAIN. THIS TIME, THEY TOLD ME THAT THE RADIATOR WAS COMING APART AND LEAKING ANTIFREEZE INTO TRANSMISSION. THEY CHARGED ME $1285.89 TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR AND FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION. IT IS NOW 2012 AND THE CAR IS DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER FIXED PROPERLY TO BEGIN WITH. I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT A HIGH PRICE. ANYONE READING THIS SHOULD PHONE ME AT SO THAT WE CAN START A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST NISSAN. LETS INFORM EVERYONE WHO HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE AN 05 NISSAN XTERRA. THE GAS GAUGE SHOWS THE GAS TANK EMPTY EVEN WHEN IT CONTAINS FUEL. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON WHEN THE TANK REACHES 1/4 CAPACITY (BASED ON ODOMETER ESTIMATE) AND WILL STAY ON FOR HUNDREDS OF MILES (AFTER REFUEL). CODE RETURNED: P0463. WHY ARE 06 - 08 XTERRAS COVERED? EVEN IF THE 05'S ISSUE IS COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT OF THE 06 AND UP (WHICH I DON'T BELIEVE), IT WOULD SEEM THAT THERE HAVE BEEN ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO WARRANT FURTHER INVESTIGATION. THANK YOU. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THE FUEL GAUGE WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN SHE FIRST FUELS UP THE GAS GAUGE WORKS FINE. SHE STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE STOPS WORKING BETWEEN THREE QUARTERS OF A TANK AND A HALF OF A TANK. THE FAILURE HAD BEEN ON GOING FOR TWO YEARS AND THREE MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT THE CONTACT REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,800.

2005 XTERRA - CODE P0463 - FUEL SENDING UNIT ERROR. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE 2000-2004 XTERRA MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED. THIS HAS BECOME A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE NOW FOR OWNERS WITH MODELS 2005 AND NEWER. NISSAN NEEDS TO REMEDY THIS SITUATION WITH A RECALL FOR NEWER VEHICLES. *TR

I AM OUT OF WARRANTY AS WELL AND WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR 2005 XTERRA W/42,000 MILES TO GET IT FIXED (DEALERSHIP QUOTES APPX $600)......KIND OF A REAR END BURNER. SEEMS LIKE MOST FOLKS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM TOWARDS 3/4 TO A FULL TANK. COULD THIS PART OF THE METAL STRIP BE CORRODING WHEN IT'S NOT SUBMERGED IN THE FUEL ?? IF I HAVE TO GUESS IT'S A METAL COATING OR TYPE OF METAL USED WHEN MANUFACTURED PROBLEM. YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO TOO FAR TO REALIZE THIS IS A PROBLEM! NISSAN 2005 XTERRA'S FUEL SENDING UNIT IS BAD ON THIS VEHICLE CAUSING FUEL GAUGE NOT TO WORK. DEALER WANTS OVER $600 TO FIX AND CLAIMS NISSAN WON'T RECALL BECAUSE IT IS NOT A "SAFETY ISSUE". IF AN ELDERLY WOMAN RUNS OUT OF GAS ON A DESERTED ROAD, TO ME, THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
AT 24,000 MILES THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL HAD TO BE REPLACED, IT TOOK OVER 6 WEEKS TO GET THE PART (IT WAS REPLACED AT 28,000 MILES). AGAIN AT 42,000 IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED SAME PROBLEM I WAS TOLD 5 DAYS TO GET THE PART IT IS GOING ON 3 WEEKS AND I WAS TOLD JUST TOLD IT WOULD BE IN BY 7/9 I DON'T BELIEVE IT. ATTEMPTED E-MAILS TO NISSIAN HAVE NEVER BEEN ANSWERED. THE CAR HAS NEVER EVEN BEEN OFF THE ROAD. ALL HIGHWAY MILES! NISSAN HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FOR SURE AND DON'T SEEM INTRESTED IN HELPING THE CONSUMER. THIS WILL BE THE LAST NISSIAN I OWN. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.
AIRBAG SYSTEM FAILURE LIGHT GOES OFF AND PASSENGER AIRBAG DOES NOT ACTIVATE WHEN PASSENGER IS IN FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. AIRBAG MAY NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. FIRST TIME I WAS TOLD IT WAS A LOSE CONNECTOR SECOND TIME I WAS TOLD THE COMPUTER HAD TO BE RESET. THIRD TIME I WAS TOLD THE COMPUTER WAS REPLACED. IT IS NOW BACK IN NISSAN SERVICE FOR THE FORTH TIME. *TR

HE WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION AND WAS FORCED TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL GEAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT AT FIRST BUT KNOW THE FAILURE HAD BECOME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2005 XTERRA 1/2006 WITH 10 MILES!!!! I PAID 28,000 FOR THIS VEHICLE AND WORST VEHICLE I NEVER HAD!!! I ONLY SERVICE THIS VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP!!!! I HAD SO MANY ISSUES WITH THIS NEW TRUCK!! THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEEPING ON AT FROM THE VERY BEGINNING AND WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG! OVER TIME, THIS WAS A COMPLETE LEMON!! THE VEHICLE HAD TO REPLACE A RADIO, 6 BATTERIES, 3 ALTERNATORS, HOSES LEAKING, OIL LEAKING WITHIN 3 YEARS PURCHASING A NEW TRUCK, FUEL SENSOR REPLACED, FUEL PUMP REPLACED, 1 CAL.CONVENTOR REPLACED, AND WORST OF ALL TRANSMISSION ISSUES!! THE TRUCK WILL NOT GO UP HILLS AND WHEN I TOOK IT TO 2 DIFFERENT PLACES SAID THAT THE RADIATOR WAS LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND NISSAN KNEW ABOUT THIS AND NEVER SAID NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ONLY TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY NEVER SAID A THING! I COULD REPLACED THE RADIATOR LONG TIME AGAIN TO AVOID THE TRANSMISSION GOING OUT!! 5,500 REPAIR JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS POOR QUALITY TRUCK WITH ALL THE ISSUES I HAD SINCE I BROUGHT IT BRAND NEW !! MY ACURA HAVE 241,000 AND NEVER HAD ANY OF THESE ISSUES THAT I PURCHASED USED!! I CONTACT THE CORP OFFICE AND THEY WILL NEVER DO ANYTHING! THE NISSAN DEALERSHIPS AROUND THE COUNTRY KNOWS THE ISSUES WITH THESE NISSAN CARS AND NEVER SAY A THING!! I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A ANOTHER NISSAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DIFFERENTIALS FRONT AND REAR ARE UNDER ENGINEERED AND BREAK EXTREMELY EASILY. NISSAN WOULD NOT WARRANTY REPLACEMENT DESPITE MANY OF FAILURES AND CLAIMED IT WAS NOT AN ENGINEERING DEFECT. CURRENTLY MINE HAS A BLOWN REAR DIFFERENTIAL, AND VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVABLE. *AK.
FUEL GAUGE ON NISSAN XTERRA 05, CEL LIGHT ON FAIL EMISSION TEST VA, CANNOT TELL HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE TANK.
THE FUEL GAUGE IS FAULTY. AFTER FILLING UP TANK IT READS ZERO FOR SOME TIME UNTIL SLOWLY PROGRESSING TO CORRECT LEVEL. ALSO, WILL SOMETIMES JUST DROP TO ZERO/EMPTY. MY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AFTER FILLING UP TANK THEN GOES OUT ONCE I REACH ABOUT HALF TO QUARTER TANK (IF THE FUEL GAUGE IS READING CORRECTLY). SOMETIMES THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON FOR WEEKS - THE CODE READING IS FOR A FAULTY FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. I OWNED THE 2000 XTERRA AND THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR WAS RECALLED FOR THAT VEHICLE. *TR
THE CLUTCH FIRST FAILED AT 2800 MILES. NISSAN REPLACED IT BUT TOLD ME IT WAS BAD DRIVING. I HAVE HAD A CLUTCH MY ENTIRE LIFE. THE SECOND FAILURE WAS AT 52000 MILES. NISSAN TOLD ME IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY SO I HAD IT REPLACED ELSEWHERE WITH OE PARTS. IT JUST FAILED AGAIN AT 78000 MILES AND AGAIN THEY SAID IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I WILL NOW HAVE THE FOURTH CLUTCH INSTALLED AND AM LOOKING AT OTHER THAN OEM EQUIPMENT. *KB
FUEL SENDING UNIT DIED AT 36800 MILES; APPROXIMATELY 800 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY. NISSAN LATER ADMITTED FAULT (OVER 5 YEARS LATER) AND EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 72000 MILES AS IT APPLIES TO THAT PART, BUT MY VEHICLE WAS WELL PAST THAT MILEAGE BY THAT POINT. VEHICLE NOW FAILS NJ INSPECTION BECAUSE OBD II CODE IS RETURNED FOR FAULTY FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. *TR
FUEL LEVEL SENSOR FAILED 800 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY; CAUSES DRIVER TO HAVE NO IDEA OF FUEL LEVEL. CREATES DANGEROUS POSSIBILITY OF RUNNING OUT OF FUEL ON HIGHWAYS, IN TRAFFIC, ETC. WITHOUT MOTOR RUNNING, POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES DO NOT WORK, CREATING EVEN HIGHER RISK OF ACCIDENT. VERY COMMON ISSUE ON 2005 XTERRA; SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL. *TR
NISSAN NORTH AMERICA INC. HAS SENT ME TWO LETTERS INDICATING A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FOR TRAILER HITCHES SOLD ON 2005 NISSAN XTERRA VEHICLES. I HAVE CALLED AND DRIVEN TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP BUT THEY CAN NOT FIND A RECALL FOR MY VIN NUMBER AND REFUSE TO LOOK AT MY TRAILER HITCH. I HANDED THE SERVICE ADVISOR MY RECALL NOTICE THAT HAD MY VIN PRINTED ON IT, AND THEY HAVE STILL REFUSED TO LOOK AT MY VEHICLE. I HAVE CALLED NISSAN'S CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER: 1-800-647-7261 (1-800-NISSAN1) THE REPRESENTATIVES INSISTED THAT MY VIN NUMBER DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL AND WERE NOT ABLE TO HELP ME. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON MY OWN TIME, AND FOUND THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS FOR THIS RECALL 05V458000 AND 05E062000. I HAVE CALLED THE NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER AND ASKED THEM TO ADD THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS TO MY FILE. ALL THE NISSAN REPRESENTATIVES THAT I HAVE SPOKEN WITH INSIST THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY VIN BECAUSE THEY CANNOT FIND IT IN THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEM. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS RECALL CAMPAIGN IS TRACKED BY THE VIN NUMBER BECAUSE THE RECALL IS FOR AN OPTIONAL ACCESSORY. I PURCHASED A 2005 XTERRA WITH A TRAILER HITCH INSTALLED. I AM WORRIED THE HITCH IS DEFECTIVE AND PART OF THE RECALL THAT I HAVE RECEIVED NOTICES. NISSAN HAS REFUSED TO CHECK MY VEHICLE TO VERIFY IF THE TRAILER HITCH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *JB
STEERING WHEEL SHAKES BETWEEN 55 AND 75 MPH, INCONSISTENTLY BUT ALWAYS SOMEWHERE IN THAT RANGE. CUSTOMER SERVICE AT NISSAN IS NON EXISTENT. THEY DO NOT RETURN CALLS,AND ARE NOT CONCERNED ABOUT CUSTOMER SAFETY DEALERS ARE A-HOLES, THEY DO NOT SERVE THEIR CUSTOMERS, ONLY WANT TO CHARGE A LOT OF MONEY AND THEN 1/2 THE TIME WILL NOT ACTUALLY FIX WHAT WAS WRONG. AT LEAST THE ONE IN MARYLAND WHICH I GO TO (JONES) I HAVE HEARD OF THEM TAKING YOUR CAR IN AND ACTUALLY TAKING PARTS OFF OF IT TO PUT ON SOMEBODY ELSE'S CAR, THEN PUTTING BAD PARTS BACK ON YOUR CAR AND RELEASING IT TO YOU AS WELL AS NOT DOING ANYTHING AND CHARGING HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS AS IF THEY DID DO SOMETHING. ON FEBRUARY 11, 2006, I WAS DRIVING NOT FAR FROM MY HOUSE, WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST CONTROL. WE ROLLED FIVE TIMES BEFORE WE HIT THE FIRST TREE. WE WENT RIGHT OVER THAT TREE. I PURCHASED AN 05 XTERRA IN SEPTEMBER. AT ABOUT 6,000 MILES IT DEVELOPED A SQUEAK IN THE FRONT END. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES AND THE LAST TIME THEY WERE ABLE TO LOCATE THE NOISE AND STOP IT. I ASKED THE SERVICE WRITER WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND SHE TOLD ME I DIDN'T WANT TO KNOW. I PUSHED FOR AN ANSWER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FRAME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WAS NOT WELDED, CAUSING THE METAL TO RUB TOGETHER AND SQUEAK. SHE ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE WASHER FLUID TANK WAS RUBBING THE FRAME. THE ONLY THING WRITTEN ON MY SERVICE ORDER WAS THE WASHER FLUID TANK. I DON'T KNOW IF MY XTERRA HAS A FAULTY FRAME OR NOT. I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA PURCHASED NEW IN 2006. IT LOOKS NEW STILL AND I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF IT. I REPORTED MANY TIMES ABOUT THE GAS GAUGE NOT WORKING CORRECTLY TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS O.K. WHEN CHECKED. THEY SINCE SOLD TO SOMEONE ELSE. IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE, A LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME TO CHECK MAINTENANCE BECAUSE OF IT AND I CANNOT PASS STATE INSPECTION UNTIL I PAY SEVERAL HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO REPAIR IT. I HAVE TALKED TO MANY PEOPLE I SEE WITH THEM, MANY CAR SALES PEOPLE AND DEALERS AND SOMETIMES PEOPLE WILL COME UP TO ME WHILE GETTING GAS, COMPLIMENT ON THE CONDITION OF MINE, AND ASK IF I HAVE THE PROBLEM AND MANY OF THEM HAS A NEWER VEHICLE AND/OR OLDER VEHICLE. I CONFIRMED ON THE PHONE THEY HAD THE PART. I TOOK VEHICLE IN AND AT THE END OF THE DAY THE SERVICE DEPT. CALLED ME TO SAY THERE WAS NO PART IN STOCK. THIS HAPPENED IN OCT. THEY TOLD ME THE SHIPMENT SHOULD BE IN NOV. THAT I WOULD BE FIRST ON THE LIST THEY WOULD GIVE ME A CALL. WHILE DRIVING DOWN A STEEP HILL, I TURNED OFF THE OVERDRIVE AND THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY SHOWED THE VEHICLE HAD SHIFTED INTO 4TH GEAR BUT IN FACT IS WAS STILL IN OD (5TH) GEAR. UPON ACTIVATING THE BUTTON TO SHIFT BACK TO OD, THE VEHICLE NOW SHIFTED DOWN INTO 3RD GEAR BUT DISPLAYED THAT IT WAS IN OD (5TH) GEAR. I LIVE IN THE SAN BERNARDINO MOUNTAINS OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AND I NEED TO DOWNSHIFT TO SLOW THE VEHICLE WHEN GOING DOWNHILL AND TO AVOID OVERHEATING THE BRAKES WITH A POSSIBILITY OF BRAKE FAILURE. 3 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING VEHICLE I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WOULD SQUEAL FOR 5-10 MINUTES WHEN 1ST STARTING, IT DID NOT MATTER IF IT WAS IN THE MORNING OR MID-AFTERNOON. I TOOK THE TRUCK INTO THE DEALER AND THE DRIVE BELT WAS REPLACED. ABOUT 2,000 MILES LATER THE PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED, I TOOK THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER AND THIS TIME THE AUTO TENSION PULLEY WAS REPLACED. ABOUT 1,000 MILES LATER THE TRUCK WAS ONCE AGAIN TAKEN BACK AND THIS TIME THE LEAD TECH ASSURED ME THE PROBLEM WOULD BE FIXED AND THE DRIVE BELT WAS REPLACED FOR A 2ND TIME. I HAVE NOW HAD THIS TRUCK FOR 9 MONTHS AND AGAIN HAD TO TAKE IN, THIS TIME I DEALT WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER WHO WAS NOT HELPFUL. THEY ONCE AGAIN REPLACED THE DRIVE BELT AND STATED THIS WAS A KNOWN NISSAN PROBLEM AND THAT THE PROBLEM WILL PRESENT ITSELF AGAIN BUT THEY CAN NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL NISSAN ISSUES A RECALL OR TSB. I CALLED NISSAN'S 800-NISSAN1 NUMBER AND SPOKE TO A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A CALL FROM THE REGIONAL MANAGER BY THE END OF THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY SINCE I HAD TAKEN THE TRUCK IN 4 TIMES FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE ANY CALLS FROM NISSAN'S REGIONAL REP. ON NOV. 4TH 2005, I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 NISSAN XTERRA AT ABOUT 40 MILES PER HOUR. A DEER RAN INTO THE ROAD. I APPLIED MY BRAKES BUT HIT THE DEER. MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON BUT MY AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO AMM COLLISION AND OVER $3500.00 WORTH OF DAMAGE WAS DONE. THE AIRBAG HARNESS WIRE WAS CUT DURING THE ACCIDENT. AT THIS TIME, WE ARE UNSURE IF THE AIRBAG SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED OR WOULD HAVE DEPLOYED IF THE WIRE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN CUT. I SPOKE WITH THE DEALERSHIP IN AUSTIN TX AND THE SERVICE DEPT GUY INDICATED THAT THE AIRBAG SHOULD HAVE GONE OFF WITH A 35 MPH HIT. I AM JUST TRYING TO FIND OUT IF ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS ISSUE. POWER WINDOW DEVICE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE SEEMED TO WORK FINE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF RATTLING IF IT WAS NOT ALL THE WAY UP OR DOWN. AND EVERYTIME THAT IT WOULD BE ROLLED UP IT SOUNDED LIKE A CHIPPING NOISE. I TOOK IT INTO TOWN CENTER NISSAN, KENNESAW, GA AND THEY REPLACED IT THE SAME DAY (2-27-06) AND IT HAS BEEN WORKING JUST FINE. THE VEHICLE CAME THAT WAY, BUT I HAD NO ISSUE IN GETTING IT REPLACED.*JB
I HAD 1/4 OF A TANK OF GAS AND WENT TO FILL UP. AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK, I TURNED ON THE CAR, AT WHICH POINT THE NEEDLE DID NOT REGISTER THE FULL TANK. AFTER DRIVING A COUPLE MILES, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WENT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A FUEL SENDING UNIT/SENSOR AND THAT IT WAS NO LONGER COVERED AFTER 30K MILES. AFTER RETURNING HOME AND DOING RESEARCH, I WENT ONLINE TO X.NISSANHELP.COM AFTER PERFORMING A SEARCH, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE 2000-2004 XTERRA MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AFTER NOT GETTING ANY FUEL, POSING A GREAT DANGER. IT SEEMS THAT SOMTHING IN THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND WILL CORRODE OVER TIME. THERE IS A GENERAL CONSENSUS THAT EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE PROBLEM IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 YRS AND WITH AROUND 39K-49K. IF THIS PROBLEM EXISTED IN PREVIOUS MODELS, AND IT WAS RECALLED, THE 2005-2007 XTERRAS, FRONTIERS, AND PATHFINDERS SHOULD GET THIS FIXED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER!! WHY WAIT FOR ACCIDENTS AND POSSIBLE DEATHS, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE PROBLEM LIES IN AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE VEHICLE. COST OF REPAIR RANGES FROM $300-600."

2005 NISSAN XTERRA FUEL SENSOR ISSUE. THE FUEL SENSOR WILL TRIGGER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WHEN REFUELING. THE SENSOR WILL READ EMPTY ON A FULL TANK AND THEN SLOWLY CREEP UP TO FULL OVER TIME.
