RADIATOR, WHICH WAS RECALLED AND I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT, CRACKED LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION ULTIMATELY CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. *TR
FAULTY RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION NISSAN WILL NOT COVER FOR DAMAGE ,VEHICLE SUDDENLY DIES WHILE DRIVING,VERY MUCH KNOWN PROBLEM. *TR
TRANSMISSION, RADIATOR PROBLEMS. CAR IS A LEMON. *TR
VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED CHANGING GEARS WHILE ON A MAIN ROAD WHERE SPEED LIMIT IS 55 MPH. TURNED ONTO A SMALLER COUNTRY ROAD, COULD NOT ACCELERATE MORE THAN 20 MPH, AND SLOWLY DESCENDED FROM THERE UNTIL FINALLY COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. CRACKED RADIATOR CAUSED COOLANT LEAK INTO TRANSMISSION FLUID CAUSING MANY SYSTEMS TO FAIL. IN TURN, HAD TO REPLACE RADIATOR AND COMPLETELY REBUILD AND FLUSH TRANSMISSION SEVERAL TIMES ($4400 EXPENSE). HAD I BEEN ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY OR INTERSTATE WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A MUCH MORE SERIOUS OUT COME. *TR

THE SOURCE OF THE CONTAMINATION IS A CRACKED ATF LINE THAT RUNS THROUGH AN ENGINE COOLANT CHAMBER IN THE RADIATOR. ODI HAS RECEIVED (512) FIVE-HUNDRED-TWELVE CONSUMER COMPLAINTS BETWEEN AUGUST 2005 TO MAY 2012 REGARDING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. A COPY OF THE PETITION WILL BE PLACED IN THE PUBLIC FILE. THE ACCELERATOR STARTED NOT SWITCHING GEARS AS I WAS MERGING ONTO THE FREEWAY. THEN, THE TRANSMISSION GAVE OUT. THE FLUID FROM THE TRANSMISSION LEAKED INTO THE RADIATOR AND BOTH NEED TO BE REPLACED. IT IS ESTIMATED TO COST $4,000 TO GET FIXED.
WHILE DRIVING 70 MILES AN HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY MY CAR SUDDENLY SHOT UP TO 4000 RPM AND WOULDN'T GO FASTER THAN 30 MILES AN HOUR. AFTER MY CAR WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FRIEND OF MINE'S SHOP HE TOLD ME THE RADIATOR HAD CRACKED, LEAKED COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION, FRIED THE TRANSMISSION AND TORQUE CONTROL VALVE, ALL VALVES AND SEALS, AS WELL AS BOTH CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. THE COST TO FIX WOULD BE $6000. NISSAN NEEDS TO PAY FOR THIS BECAUSE OF THEIR FACTORY DEFECT!!! *TR
COOLANT FROM NISSAN'S DEFECTIVELY DESIGNED RADIATOR LEAKED INTO MY TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION, VALVE BODY, COMPUTER, AND RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A TOTAL OF $4,000. WHILE DRIVING MY XTERRA HOME UP A STEEP GRADE IT WAS HAVING A PROBLEM SHIFTING AND ITS RPM WAS ALMOST RED LINING SO I STEPPED OFF THE GAS. THE XTERRA WAS AT TIMES BUCKING, SHIFTING UP AND DOWN RAPIDLY MAKING IT VERY HARD TO DRIVE IT HOME. MY VEHICLE COULDN'T GO OVER 40MPH AND I HAD SOME PEOPLE ALMOST RUN INTO THE BACK OF ME WHILE LIMPING IT HOME. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD AND I PRAY NO ONE HAS BEEN SEVERELY INJURED OR KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT CAUSED BY THIS ISSUE NISSAN CREATED. SHAME ON THEM! *TR
I HAD ALL FOUR HANKOOK DYNAPRO ATM TIRES FROM THIS BATCH REPLACED FOR TREAD SEPARATION. I ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THESE TIRES IN MARCH OF 2010. I HAD TWO OF THEM REPLACED IN APRIL OF 2013 (THE SEPARATION ON THE TWO TIRES WERE SO BAD THAT THEY WOULD NOT LET ME LEAVE THE SHOP WITH THEM.), THEN THE BLOWOUT IN SEPTEMBER OF 2014 THEN THE FINAL REPLACEMENT IN FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR. ALL OF THESE TIRES WERE REPLACED DUE TO THESE DEFECTIVE TIRES. I REPLACED THESE TIRES WITH THE SAME PRODUCT THINKING I JUST GOT A BAD BATCH OF TIRES. BUT WHEN SHOWING THE GUYS AT THE DISCOUNT TIRE WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TIRE AND CAR WHEN THE TREAD BLEW OFF THE TIRE AND THE 2500 DAMAGE THAT WAS CAUSED TO THE SUV, THEY FELT THAT THAT WAS A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AND THAT I NEEDED TO FILE A CLAIM WITH HANKOOK. THEY HELPED ME GET THE CLAIM STARTED. I WAS CONTACTED BY JUAN BRITOS WHO ASKED ME TO SEND IN AN ESTIMATE FROM A REPAIR COMPANY WHICH I DID. A FEW DAYS LATER I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT THE CLAIM WAS DENIED DUE TO PROLONGED OPERATION OF THE TIRE IN AN UNDER-INFLATED STATE THIS CLAIM IS SIMPLY UNTRUE. I COMMUTE QUITE A FEW MILES A WEEK. I AM VERY CONSCIOUS OF THE PRESSURE OF MY TIRES. I DO THIS FOR ECONOMIC REASONS I KNOW KEEPING PROPERLY INFLATED TIRES IMPROVES MPG. THIS IS WHY I KEEP A TIRE PRESSURE GAGE IN THE DOOR OF MY CAR AND CHECK IT REGULARLY. I ALSO KEEP AN AIR COMPRESSOR IN MY CAR TO INFLATE ANY UNDER INFLATED TIRES, THIS IS ALSO AN AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF COMPRESSOR THAT SHUTS OFF AT THE SET PSI. I KEEP MY TIRES AT A RANGE OF 35-40 PSI. I ALSO HAVE A TPMS SYSTEM IN MY VEHICLE THAT WOULD WARN ME OF ANY LOW PRESSURE ISSUES.
BEGAN HEARING A WHINING NOISE FROM ENGINE, INCREASING WITH RPM. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP, WHO INDICATED IT WAS BAD TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER SHOES/GUIDES. SERVICE ADVISOR INDICATED THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE, AND NISSAN REDESIGNED THE PARTS SINCE THE ORIGINALS WERE FOUND TO WEAR THROUGH, ALLOWING THE TIMING CHAIN TO RUB DIRECTLY ON THE METAL POST OF THE TENSIONER. THE TIMING CHAIN SYSTEM SHOULD LAST FOR THE LIFE OF THE ENGINE, NOT REQUIRE A $1700 REPAIR ONLY ABOUT HALFWAY THROUGH THE ENGINE LIFE. THIS IS ALSO A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION, SINCE A TIMING CHAIN FAILURE COULD QUICKLY DESTROY THE ENGINE, LEAVING THE CAR WITHOUT ENGINE POWER OUT ON THE ROAD. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR
AFTER I FILLED UP WITH GAS AND PUT IN A FULL TANK I NOTICED THAT MY GAS GUAGE IS STUCK AT A QUARTER OF A TANK. AFTER TURNING MY CAR ON AND OFF IT STILL SAYS A QUARTER OF A TANK. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ON THIS IT APPEARS TO BE THE FUEL SENDING UNIT AND I AM PAST THE 72 MONTH WARRANTY ON THIS. THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED ME 450-550 TO FIX THIS. *TR
THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO MY VEHICLE FOR AWHILE BUT I WAS UNAWARE UNTIL LAST WEEK. MY TRUCK WAS OVERHEATING AND THE ANTIFREEZE HAD A WHITE SUBSTANCE IN IT. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME IT WAS MIXED WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE RADIATOR CRACKED AND THE TRANS COOLER WHICH IS INSIDE LEAKED. THE TWO FLUIDS MIXED AND HAS CAUSED TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. MY RADIATOR HAS TO BE REPLACED AND THE TRANS WILL BE FLUSHED SEVERAL TIMES. THE EXTENT OF DAMAGE TO THE TRANS IS UNDETERMINED AT THIS TIME AS IT IS STILL IN THE SHOP. I RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND IT TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH NISSAN XTERRAS. THE SYMPTOM'S OF OTHERS VEHICLES ARE EXACTLY THE SAME AS MINE. NISSAN HAS HAD A VERY POOR SETTLEMENT IN A CLASS ACTION SUIT BUT IT IS VERY POOR. THIS SHOWS THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE POOR ENGINEERING DESIGN AND/OR PARTS. THIS PROBLEM IS LEAVING PEOPLE WITH SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS IN REPAIRS ($3800 AND UP) FOR A PROBLEM THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF. EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE MAINTAINED YOUR VEHICLE ROUTINELY THIS PROBLEM WILL STILL OCCUR DUE TO NISSANS POOR DESIGN AND PARTS. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A RECALL AND IF AN OWNER HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM THEY SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THEIR EXPENSE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, TOOK TO MECHANIC FOR A CHECK AND FOUND THAT WE WERE LEAKING RADIATOR COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. HAD TO REPLACE PARTS AND FLUSH TRANSMISSION AT A PRICEY COST. *TR
THE RADIATOR COOLING WATER GOT INTO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. THIS CAUSED STRONG VIBRATION THAT WE HAD TO GET OFF THE ROAD IN THE MIDDLE OF A HIGHWAY. THE DAMAGE WAS REQUIRED TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR AND FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION . IT STARTED OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION SAFETY SWITCH THAT CAUSED ENGINE TROUBLE ALERT. AFTER FEW WEEKS THE CAR STALLED ALTOGETHER AND WE NOW HAD TO TOW IT TO A GARAGE. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT WAS REPORTED BEFORE AND I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY NISSAN DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND REPAIR THE DAMAGED UNITS. *TR

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO TRANSMISSION ISSUES. *SMD THE DEALER INFORM THE CONSUMER THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, BECAUSE COOLANT WAS LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED IT FELT AS THOUGH THE TIRES WERE SLIPPING WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. *JB
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SO I TOOK IT TO AN AUTOZONE TO HAVE THE CODE READ. PO463, FUEL SENDING UNIT. DID SOME RESEARCH, CALLED NISSAN CORPORATE TO INFORM THEM OF THE ISSUE AND SEE IF I WAS ELIGIBLE FOR EXTENDED WARRANTY (WASN'T COVERED). NISSAN CORPORATE INFORMED ME THAT I WAS ELIGIBLE FOR ECM RELAY REPLACEMENT AT NO COST AT A DEALERSHIP, SO I TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP THAT QUOTED ME LOWEST ON THE FUEL SENSOR REPAIR. THEY ASKED IF I HAD OTHER ISSUES AND I TOLD THEM THAT MY ENGINE SOMETIMES SOUNDED LIKE AN RC CAR. THEY OFFERED TO LOOK INTO IT, CALLED THIS AFTERNOON AFTER COMPLETING WORK ON SENSOR AND ECM RELAY TO INFORM ME THAT MY TIMING CHAINS WERE SHOT AND IN NEED OF IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT. DID SOME MORE RESEARCH AND FOUND THIS IS A FREQUENT ISSUE IN NISSAN CARS, DECIDED TO FILE A REPORT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A FLOAT ARM INSIDE THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
WHEN DRIVING THE CAR AT 40MPH/AROUND 1000RPMS THE VEHICLE BEGAN VIBRATING AT THE BACK END. UPON ACCELERATION, THE VIBRATION CEASED. THIS BEHAVIOR BECAME CONSISTENT. A MECHANIC INDEPENDENT FROM NISSAN FOUND THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR MUST BE REPLACED PER HIS CONVERSATION WITH THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP. ALSO ADVISING INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THAT THE DEALERSHIP ADMITS TO HAVING A FLOOR FULL OF TRANSMISSIONS THAT NEED REPAIR. I INVESTIGATED THE CLASS ACTION SUIT FILED IN 2010 AND ALREADY SETTLED, BUT HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS PRIOR AS NISSAN DID NOT ALERT ME TO THE PERSISTENT PROBLEM SINCE 2005 I SHOULD EXPECT MY CAR TO DEVELOP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
CAR BEGAN OVERHEATING AND EVEN WHEN ALLOWED COOL DOWN TIME CONTINUED TO RUN HOT. INSPECTION SHOWS THAT THE CAR HAS TRANSMISSION LEAKING INTO THE RADIATOR. EVEN WHEN FLUSHED AND REFILLED - IMMEDIATELY MIXES AGAIN. CAR IS NOT OPERABLE. DEALERSHIP INDICATES $5K TO REPAIR. THE CAR HAS JUST PASSED 100,000 AND IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ANY WARRANTY. NISSAN WAS WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND OPTED NOT TO RECALL OR EVEN INFORM CUSTOMERS OF ISSUES TO WATCH FOR. NOW, I AM OUT A CAR - I DO NOT HAVE 5K NOR DO I HAVE THE ABILITY TO WALK OUT AND JUST BUY A NEW CAR. THANKS NISSAN FOR LOOKING OUT FOR YOURSELF AND NOT THE CUSTOMERS WHO KEEP YOU IN BUSINESS. *JS

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED EMPTY HOWEVER THE FUEL TANK WAS FULL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
THE RADIATOR LEAKS COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION. CONSEQUENTLY BOTH THE TRANSMISSION AND THE RADIATOR HAS TO BE REPLACED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON A REGULAR ONE WAY STREET, WHEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND SMOKE CAME FROM UNDER THE HOOD. BY THE WAY, THIS HAPPENED ON MY WEDDING DAY. ANYWAYS, I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A CAR SHOP TO FIND OUT THE RADIATOR BURST CAUSING THE COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID TO MIX, MY TRANSMISSION IS RUINED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, MY RADIATOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, THE FLUIDS GOT INTO MY WATER PUMP WHICH ALSO NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE COMPLETE COST FOR DAMAGES IS $7500. NOW I AM OUT OF A CAR AND CANT TRADE IT IN BECAUSE IT IS NOT WORTH ANYTHING AT THIS POINT. AFTER READING ALL THE COMPLAINTS I SEE MANY OTHERS HAVE FACED THIS PROBLEM, THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THESE FAULTY RADIATORS IN THE 2006 NISSAN XTERRAS. *TR
ON 5/19/2010 THE NHTSA AND NISSAN ISSUED A RECALL CAMPAIGN BULLETIN #NTB10-031A COVERING CERTAIN NISSAN VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 2006 AND 2008. THE RECALL WAS TO ADDRESS A POTENTIAL FUEL GAUGE ACCURACY. SPECIFICALLY, THE ISSUE CAN CAUSE THE FUEL GAUGE TO SHOW THE VEHICLE STILL HAS FUEL WHEN THE TANK IS ACTUALLY EMPTY. THIS COULD RESULT IN THE VEHICLE SHUTTING DOWN, RENDERING POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES AND OTHER VEHICLE SYSTEMS INOPERABLE OR WHERE PERFORMANCE MAY BE GREATLY REDUCED, WHICH AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS COULD CAUSE OF LOSS OR CONTROL OR ACCIDENT. MY 2005 NISSAN TITAN WAS RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND WAS IN FACT IMPACTED WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I WAS FORTUNATELY ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOP AND THE VEHICLE WAS FIXED UNDER AN IDENTICAL RECALL. IN JULY 2014, WHEN MY SON'S 2006 NISSAN XTERRA BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE SIMILAR SYMPTOMS. I CONTACTED NISSAN TO CONFIRM THAT VEHICLES INCLUSION IN THE AFOREMENTIONED CAMPAIGN. I SPOKE TO [XXX] AND OPENED CASE [XXX]. [XXX] INSTRUCTED ME TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED AT A NISSAN DEALERSHIP (WHICH I DID), BUT SHE SUBSEQUENTLY DENIED COVERAGE UNDER THE RECALL STATING THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. SHE STATED THAT NOT ALL VEHICLES FOR THAT MODEL YEAR WERE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, BUT RATHER WERE OFFERED EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THE SPECIFIC PART WHICH MY VEHICLE WAS NOW BEYOND. THIS WAS NOT STATED IN THE CAMPAIGN NOTICE - I REQUESTED SHE ESCALATE MY CONCERN TO A SUPERVISOR. A WEEK LATER I WAS CONTACTED BY [XXX] (NO LAST NAME GIVEN) FROM NISSAN. [XXX] CONTRADICTED WHAT I HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN TOLD BY STATING THAT ALL MODEL YEAR 2006 XTERRAS WERE ONLY GIVEN EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE (I'M NOT SURE IF [XXX] OR [XXX] WERE AT THIS POINT LYING TO ME) AND THAT NISSAN WOULD NOT RECONSIDER MY REQUEST FOR COVERAGE. THIS IS MY 5TH NISSAN. I'M REQUESTING NISSAN COVER THE ~$380 REPAIR. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

I'M THE OWNER OF A 2006 XTERRA I WAS COMING TO A STOP AT A MAJOR INTERSECTION WITH NO PREVIOUS MALFUNCTIONS OF ANY KIND. I HAVE DRIVEN THIS VEHICLE ACROSS COUNTRY 4 TIMES AND HAVE MEET ALL REQUIRED PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS AND SCHEDULED TUNE UPS. NOW BACK TO THE INTERSECTION WE CAME TO A STOP WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I DEPRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND IT HESITATED FOR A SECOND AND APPROACHED 10 MPH AND THEN IT JUST REVVED AS IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS NO LONGER ENGAGED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. I TURNED ON MY FOREWAYS AND NATURALLY PROCEEDED TO INVESTIGATE THE SITUATION. TO MY SURPRISE THEIR WAS NO EVIDENCE OF EXTERNAL DAMAGE OR TAMPERING WITH ANYTHING UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. A POLICE OFFICER CAME TO THE INTERSECTION TO ASSIST MYSELF AND MY FAMILY I ENTERED THE VEHICLE AND SHIFTED FROM PARK TO DRIVE AND IT TOOK OFF AS IF THERE WAS NEVER A PROBLEM. I DROVE 2 MILES TO MY PLACE OF RESIDENCE AND DECIDED TO INVESTAGATE. I LOOKED UP SOME INFORMATION ONLINE TO SEE IF OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THEIR IS A COMMON RUPTURE AT THE BASE OF THE RADIATOR THAT ALLOWS COOLANT TO MIX WITH THE ATF. I DECIDED TO DRAIN SOME COOLANT AND VERIFY MY ASSUMPTION. I MADE A VIDEO OF THE PROCESSES AND THERE WAS A GOOD AMOUNT OF ATF IN MY COOLANT AND THEN I PROCEEDED TO REMOVE THE TRANSMISSION DRAIN PLUG TO EXTRACT A SAMPLE ATF AND SURE ENOUGH A PINKISH TINT AND VERY WATERY ATF WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE TRANSMISSION. *JS
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND CAR STARTED SHUTTERING AND OVER HEATED GOT OUT OF CAR AND THERE WAS MILKY TRANS FLUID EVERY WERE. *TR
MY FUEL GAUGE WENT TO ZERO AFTER I JUST FILLED UP, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. CODE P0463. THE FUEL PUMP IS FINE, JUST THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. I HAVE HEARD THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR, IS THERE GOING TO BE A RECALL? *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 40-45 MPH AND 1200 RPMS OR 60 MPH AND 1500 RPMS, A VIBRATION AS IF RUNNING OVER RIP BARS ON THE SIDE OF A HIGHWAY HAPPENED. AT FIRST, IT WAS THOUGHT TO BE A UNIVERSAL; HOWEVER, AFTER REPLACING THE PART, THE VIBRATION CONTINUED BUT HAPPENED AT ALL SPEEDS ABOVE 40 MPH REGARDLESS OF THE RPMS. RESEARCH SHOWED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION COOLANT SYSTEM CRACKING, CAUSING COOLANT TO LEAK INTO THE TRANSMISSION BUT NO RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED. A LOCAL DEALERSHIP SAID THEY HAD NO REPORT OF THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. THEY SUGGESTED TURNING OFF THE OVERDRIVE AND IF THE PROBLEM STOPPED, THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE FLUSHED. THIS WAS THE CASE, BUT BEFORE WE COULD HAVE THE TRANSMISSION FLUSHED, IT STARTED HAVING A ROARING NOISE. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS CHECKED, IT LOOKED LIKE A STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE AND SO DID THE COOLANT IN THE RADIATOR. BOTH HAVE BEEN FLUSHED BUT APPARENTLY WHEN THE INITIAL LEAK HAPPENED, IT ALSO ALLOWED COOLANT TO LEAK INTO THE COMPUTER FOR THE TRANSMISSION. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, UP A STEEP HILL, THE RPMS GREW BUT THE SPEED DECREASED. SHIFTING DOWN SHOWED THAT THE GEAR HAD BEEN LOST BECAUSE THE VEHICLE PERFORMED NORMALLY IN THE LOWER GEAR. ANOTHER DEALERSHIP OUT OF THE AREA SAID THEY HAD SEVERAL HUNDRED XTERRA'S BROUGHT IN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT WE WOULD LOSE ONE GEAR AT A TIME UNTIL WE LOST THEM ALL. THIS IS A $3,500+ REPAIR AND IF WE LOSE GEARS IN HIGH TRAFFIC, WE WILL BE POSSIBLY REARENDED OR STRANDED ON A HIGHWAY, WHICH IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. IT IS NOW OCTOBER AND NOTHING HAS BEEN RESOLVED. THERE WAS RECALL FOR VEHICLES SIMILAR IN YEAR AS MY CAR. THE RECALL WAS # 10V517000 AND WAS FOR THE "INTELLIGENT POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE (IPDM)". I CALLED NISSAN AMERICA, AND ALTHOUGH MANY VEHICLES OF MY YEAR AND MAKE/MODEL WERE AFFECTED, MY VIN # WAS NOT INCLUDED. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED ON THIS RECALL BECAUSE THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT PART WAS DEFECTIVE AND EXACTLY WHAT I HAD TO PAY FOR TO GET FIXED. WHEN MY XTERRA WAS IDLING IN PARK OR AT A STOP LIGHT, THE CAR WAS OVERHEATING. ALSO WHILE ACCELERATING, THE CAR WAS SHUDDERING WHEN CHANGING GEARS. UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR GARAGE, I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS PARTICULAR MODEL NISSAN IS NOTORIOUS FOR FAULTY RADIATORS BEING INSTALLED WHICH CAUSED COOLANT FLUID TO LEAK / MIX IN WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID, THUS DAMAGING THE TRANSMISSION, POSSIBLY TO THE POINT OF HAVING TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE RADIATOR. MY CAR IS SITTING AT A GARAGE NOW WAITING FOR THE RADIATOR TO BE REPLACED AND TRY TO RUN THE VEHICLE TO SEE HOW BAD THE DAMAGE NOW IS TO THE TRANSMISSION. *TR

TRANSMISSION COOLER ,LOCATED IN RADIATOR, CRACKED AND ALLOWED MIXTURE OF COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID. THIS CAUSED INTERNAL DAMAGE TO TRANSMISSION. VEHICLE HAD POWER LOSS DURING A MERGE ONTO A STATE HIGHWAY, NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AND POTENTIAL HARM TO MY WIFE AND 4 YEAR OLD SON. NISSAN SETTLED A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WHICH CLEARLY ACKNOWLEDGES THERE IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT WITH THE RADIATOR. NO SAFETY RECALL WAS MADE WHICH HAS THE POTENTIAL TO INJURY OTHERS WHO EXPERIENCE THIS FAILURE. YESTERDAY MILE FUEL LIGHT CAME ON. I STOPPED AFTER WORK AND FILLED UP THE GAS TANK. WHEN I STARTED MY CAR, THE FUEL GAUGE WAS STILL SHOWING EMPTY AND THE FUEL LIGHT WAS ON. THIS MORNING, I GOT IN MY CAR TO HEAD TO WORK AND THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED. WHEN RESEARCHING ON INTERNET, I SAW THAT THIS WAS A GROSSLY COMMON PROBLEM. I ALSO SAW THAT A RECALL HAD BEEN PLACE ON A COUPLE OF NISSANS FROM 2006-2008 FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. WHEN CALLING MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP THEY INFORM ME THAT MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT YOUR GAS GAUGE IS IMPROPERLY FUNCTIONING, AND YOUR CAR IS THE SAME YEAR AND STYLE, ALL THE VEHICLES SHOULD BE FIXED. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!! RADIATOR FLUID LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL AND RUINED THE RADIATOR. MY XTERRA HAD 106,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE COST TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR WAS NEARLY $5,000.00. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE IS THE SAME FACTORY DEFECT MENTIONED IN PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS. *TR
MY VEHICLE STALLED ON ME WHILE SHOWING A QUARTER OF A TANK OF GAS WHEN IN FACT IT WAS EMPTY. WE HAD TO HAVE THE GAS PUMP SENDING UNIT CHANGED OUT BECAUSE IT WAS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. A PART THAT WAS RECALLED BACK IN 2014 AND REPLACED UNDER THE CAMPAIGN# 647389. WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE FROM A TRADE IN AT A CAR DEALERSHIP AND THIS WAS THE FIRST WEEK WE DROVE IT, SO I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART JUST WENT OUT.
