2006 PONTIAC G6 3.5L V6 I TOO HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THE CLUNKING NOISE WHEN TURNING, I UNDERSTAND IT HAS ELECTRIC SERVOS, INSTEAD OF HYDRAULIC STEERING PUMP. THE NEXT YEARS THEY WENT BACK TO HYDRAULIC, PROVING THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ELECTRIC STEERING, THEREFORE 06 MODELS SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
1. NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE OF THE COMPONENT. JUST REGULAR NORMAL DRIVING DAY TO DAY COMMUTING. 2. SHAKY VIBRATIONS COMING FROM STEERING COLUMN. ELECTRONIC ASSISTED STEERING. STEERING WHEEL PULLS TO THE LEFT BY ITS SELF UNASSISTED. TALKED TO MECHANICS AND NO ONE CAN FIND OUT WHY ITS DOING IT. OR EVEN HOW ON EARTH THEY CAN FIX IT WITHOUT ANYTHING ELSE BEING WRONG. SO THE PROBLEM IS STILL PRESENT WITH NO FIX IN SIGHT? 3. NO PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED JUST TALKED WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND MECHANICS STAYING IN TOUCH HOPING THAT NOTHING WORSE HAPPENS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IN MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE STEERING WENT STRAIGHT AND I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL. I DRIFTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND LOOKED OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE AS IT ALMOST FELT LIKE SOMETHING WAS PROHIBITING THE WHEELS FROM MOVING. I RETURNED TO THE CAR'S CABIN AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN TWO DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING YET AGAIN. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER RIGHT AWAY. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A STEERING COLUMN FAILURE ON A FAULTY SENSOR AND THAT I HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ON THE INTERNET AND THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. PEOPLE ARE GOING TO DIE IF THIS IS NOT HANDLED. *TR
THIS PONTIAC G6 WAS TAKEN TO DEALER ON THREE OCCASIONS FOR THE SAME COMPLAINT. 9/23/2009. THE FIRST OCCASION, THE VEHICLE'S CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT WORK AND THE GEARSHIFT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO MOVE OUT OF PARK. ON ONE OCCASION THE CAR HAD TO BE LEFT AT WORK SITE AS GEAR SHIFT COULD NOT BE MOVED UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING. LAST, SEVERAL PEOPLE TOLD ME THAT BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ON WHILE DRIVING AND TURNED OFF WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES; ALL THE SYMPTOMS OF THE RECALL #09V036000 SECOND OCCASION: IT WAS TAKEN TO DEALER AGAIN 6/20/2011 FOR THE SAME SYMPTOMS THE DIELECTRIC LUBRICANT SUGGESTED IN THE RECALL WAS APPLIED BOTH TIMES AND COMPLAINTS CURED. THIRD OCCASION: THE VEHICLE IS GOING INTO DEALER 6/11/2012 FOR THE SAME COMPLAINTS.. *TR
STEERING FAILURE. DOING 70MPH ON HIGHWAY ON LONG TRIP,STEERING TOTALLY WENT OUT AND SPUN THE CAR, I RECOVERED AND NO ACCIDENT. I REPORTED THIS AGAIN TO DEALER AND THEY HAD NO FIX. THEY WITNESSED CLUNKING AND WOBBLES AS WELL AS A GROAN IN STEERING AND COULD NOT IDENTIFY IT. I GOT G.M. INVOLVED AND THEY DID NOTHING..EVEN THOUGH DANGEROUS AND CERTIFIED USED CAR. *TR
RANDOM (EVERY SEVERAL HOURS) LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST. *TR
UPON MAKING A LEFT TURN AT ABOUT 5 MPH, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ON MY CAR ILLUMINATED AND I HAD TO USE BOTH HANDS TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR. THE STEERING WHEEL IS VERY TIGHT AND DIFFICULT TO TURN, AS WELL AS VERY SHAKY AT HIGHER SPEEDS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 20 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY LOCKED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SPIN UNCONTROLLABLY AND CRASH. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 94000.
POWER STEERING ON '06 PONITAC G6 GTP IS DANGEROUS! STEERING COLUMN STIFFENS AND IS AT TIME HARD TO TURN CORNERS. ONLY 40,000 MILES AND CAR IN REPAIR SHOP HAVING TO REPLACE POWER STEERING PUMP, RESERVOIR AND HOSES! WHY ISN'T GMC BEING FORCED TO DO A RECALL? THIS IS NOT SAFE! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT WAS TURNING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH WHEN HE HEARD AN ABNORMAL SQUEAKING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE FAILURE BECAME INTERMITTENT OVER THE COURSE OF ONE YEAR. THE SQUEAKING NOISE DEVELOPED INTO A CLUNKING NOISE THAT WOULD EXHIBIT WHEN TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE STEERING RACK WAS REPAIRED. THREE DAYS LATER, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN FOR FURTHER INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
FOR APPROXIMATELY SIX MONTHS THE BRAKE LAMPS HAVE BEEN STAYING ON AT TIMES EVEN WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT DEPRESSED. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD GO OFF AND ON WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. BEGINNING ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2009 THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAYED AL THE TIME. ON SEPTEMBER 18, 2009 TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE GM DEALER TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR WAS REPLACED. PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED FOR TWO DAYS ONLY. PRESENTLY THE BRAKE LIGHTS REMAIN ILLUMINATED AS SOON AS THE CAR IS STARTED AND REMAINS ON. CALLED PONTIAC AND WAS TOLD MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE LOSS OF POWER IN THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. THIS BEGAN JUST AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR 7 MONTHS. THE POWER STEERING WOULD LOSS POWER RANDOMLY. APPROXIMATELY TWO OR THREE TIMES A WEEK THE POWER STEERING WOULD GO OUT. BY RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE POWER TO THE STEERING WOULD ALMOST ALWAYS RETURN. A FEW TIMES THE ENGINE HAD TO BE RESTARTED SEVERAL TIMES. *TR

THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT OF MY CAR HAS GONE OUT TWICE. THE FIRST TIME WAS OCTOBER 2007 AND THEN AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER 2009. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE PART. *TR
MY PONTIAC G6 2006 POWER STEERING GOES OUT AT FIRST I WAS TOLD MY BATTERY WASN'T STRONG ENOUGH SO, BROUGHT A NEW BATTERY AND IT STILL GOES OUT TOOK BACK TO DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THE POWER STEERING WOULD COST ME 1,200 AND IT WASN'T UNDER RECALL I THINK GM NEED TO PAY FOR THIS WHO WANTS A CAR THAT DOESN'T HAVE A POWER STEERING PUMP ATLEAST I COULD SEE IF IT NEEDED A BELT OR FLUID THIS IS A MESS. *TR

I HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC G6 WITH ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING. THE STEERING RACK FAILED APPROXIMATELY 15 MONTHS AGO WHILE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. WHEN IT FAILED THE CAR BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER IN ONE DIRECTION, THE RACK WAS REPLACED BY GM. THE RACK HAS FAILED AGAIN AND NOW LITERALLY LOCKS UP TO WHERE YOU CANNOT STEER IT. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS OF THIS ON THE INTERNET. *TR
2006 PONTIAC G6 BRAKE LIGHTS NOT WORKING WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. CRUISE CONTROL NOT WORKING. *TR
MY WIFE'S 2006 PONTIAC G6 STEERING LOCKS OR LOSS OF POWER STEERING DURING DRIVING. STARTED APPROX. 2 WEEKS AGO INTERMITTENTLY, TURNING CAR OFF AND RESTARTING RESOLVES THE ISSUE TEMPORARILY. SHE IS NOW SCARED TO DRIVE IT DUE TO WHEN IT HAPPENS, SHE IS UNABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL. RESEARCH SHOWS THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE ON THE G6 MODEL, AND I AM CURRENTLY WORKING WITH PONTIAC TO GET IT RESOLVED. THEY HAVE STATED THAT THIS ISSUE IS NOT CURRENTLY IN THEIR DATABASE, BUT I SHOULD GET IT ANALYZED AND THEN THEY WILL SEE IF IT IS COVERED. THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE GM MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO WARRANTIES FOR HIS VEHICLE. A CHECK AIRBAG STATUS MESSAGE CAME ON WHICH THE MANUAL ASSUMES IS A DEFECTIVE AIRBAG SYSTEM. THE STATUS MESSAGE COMES ON AND OFF, GENERALLY DEPENDENT ON AMBIENT TEMPERATURE. CONCERN WOULD BE FAILURE TO DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. DEALER WOULD NOT REPLACE DEFECTIVE PARTS. *TR
1. ISSUES WITH STEERING. VERY TIGHT WHEEL WHEN TURNING RIGHT, EXTREMELY LOOSE WHEN TURNING LEFT. STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY WOBBLES, LIKE YOU HAVE A FLAT TIRE - THIS MOSTLY HAPPENS WHEN BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, BUT I HAVE ALSO ENCOUNTERED IT WHEN DRIVING NORMALLY, DOWN THE ROAD. 2. THE FAILURE: POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP, WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THANK GOD I WAS IN A PARKING LOT OR I MAY HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH ONLINE, AND THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH MANY 2006 PONTIAC G6 OWNERS. 3. TAKING TO DEALERSHIP - ACTUALLY TRYING TO WORK UP THE NERVE TO GO, AS I DON'T WANT TO CAUSE ANY ACCIDENTS. *TR
POWER STEERING GOES OUT ABOUT 4 TO 5 TIMES A WEEK FOR ABOUT 7 MONTHS. DOES NOT ONLY GO OUT AT SLOW SPEEDS BUT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ALSO. WHEN STEERING GOES OUT IT IS VERY HARD TO STEER, AND IT ALSO JERKS. MY HUSBAND IS 6'4" AND HE PULLED A MUSCLE IN HIS BACK WHEN IT WENT OUT WITH HIM DRIVING TO WORK ONE MORNING AND I HAVE INJURED BOTH WRIST. THESE CARS ARE HARD TO STEER REGARDLESS OF SPEED. I HAVE 2 CHILDREN 8 MONTHS AND 3 YEARS OLD AND HAVE HAD TO FIGHT THE CAR TO A STOP MORE THAN ONCE WHEN THEY WERE IN THE CAR. I BOUGHT THIS G6 CAR USED 1 YEAR AGO IN AUG.2008. THIS STARTED AS A ONCE AN A WHILE PROBLEM WITHIN A MONTH AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR. NOW IT HAPPENS ON A DAILY BASIS. THREE DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS SAID THAT THEY HAD NOT HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM, AND WILL DO NOTHING NOT EVEN TRY TO DIAGNOSE IT. BUT THEY HAVE TO KNOW ITS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH. EVEN IF GM CLAIMS THIS ONLY HAPPENS AT SLOW SPEEDS IN PARKING LOTS AND DRIVE WAYS WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE INCLUDING CHILDREN AROUND THESE CARS. THIS IS NOT ONLY A SAFETY RISK TO THE DRIVERS OF THESE CARS BUT OTHER DRIVERS AND PEDESTRIANS AROUND THEM. ITS LIKE A CAR IN MOTION WITH OUT A DRIVER! PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT DISABLES EVEN WHEN PERSON IS SITTING IN SEAT. STARTED AT ABOUT 50,000 MILES INTERMITTENTLY AND NOW 75,000 MILES AT LEAST 3 TIMES A WEEK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. AND THEN TURN BACK OFF. WHEN THIS FAILURE OCCURS THERE WAS A LOST OF POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER, NOR HAS THE MANUFACTURER BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
POWER STEERING LOCKS UP. HAVE TO SHUT OFF AND RESTART SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT UNLOCKS. VERY UNSAFE. FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY. HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE. HAVE RESEARCHED PROBLEM AND SEEMS THAT MANY PEOPLE WITH SAME CAR ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I NO LONGER HAVE WARRANTY BUT FEEL IT SHOULD BE COVERED BY GM DUE TO MANUFACTURE DEFECT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE INTERNAL SHIFTER ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DENIED ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V036000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING: BRAKE LIGHTS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 159,000.
I HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC G6. MY STEERING WHEEL GETS REALLY TIGHT WHEN TURNING IN ANY DIRECTION THEN IT BECOMES EXTREMELY LOOSE. MY RADIO WILL NOT PLAY ANY CD'S AND I HAD TO TAKE IT TO DEALERSHIP ONCE TO HAVE IT REPLACED BECAUSE IT CAUSED MY BATTERY TO DIE. MY RIGHT PASSENGER LIGHT HAS WATER IN IT. MY REMOTE STARTER NO LONGER WORKS ON THE VEHICLE. MY PASSENGER SIDE TIRE SOUNDS AS IF THE BALL JOINT IS LOOSE IN IT.
I OWN A PONTIAC G6 AND MY POWER STEERING LOCKS UP IN THE CAR. IT HAPPENS NOW EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT. I ACTUALLY TAPPED INTO A CAR BECAUSE I COULDN'T CONTROL THE STEERING. THANK GOODNESS IT WAS ONLY TAP - IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE. WHY ISN'T THIS BEING RECALLED? *TR
I BOUGHT A 2006 PONTIAC G6 GTP SEDAN, THE CAR HAS 80,000 MILES ON IT AND THE BRAKES AND ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE ALREADY. NOW THEY ARE NEEDING REPLACEMENT AGAIN AFTER ALREADY HAVING A FRONT END ALIGNMENT. THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BY GM. THIS HAS COST ME WELL OVER 2,000 DOLLARS, AND IN JUST A FEW SEARCHES OF THE INTERNET YOU WILL SEE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUES WITH THE CAR. THE CAR SHAKES TERRIBLY WHEN BRAKING, AND AT TIMES LOCKS UP THE BRAKES. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS PLACES AND MECHANICS THAT I'VE TALKED TO SAYING ITS HOW THE CAR IS MADE. AND IF THAT IS THE CASE THEN THE MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUES AND RECALL THE WARPED ROTORS INSTEAD OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE SPENDING AND UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF MONEY FIXING A PROBLEM THAT WAS MADE BY THE COMPANY. *TR
I OWN A 2006 PONTIAC G6 (4 CYLINDER). I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING GOING OUT ON THE CAR. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS DURING WARMER WEATHER. I WILL BE DRIVING, I WILL HEAR A WARNING CHIME AND THE COMPUTER SYSTEM WILL INDICATE THAT THERE IS A POWER STEERING FAILURE ON THE DIGITAL DASH DISPLAY. THEN I CAN FEEL THE STEERING GO OUT. I CAN SHUT THE CAR OFF AND IT WILL SOMETIMES RESET THE STEERING. OTHER TIMES I MAY DRIVE WITHOUT POWER STEERING FOR A FEW DAYS BEFORE IT WILL RESENT. IT SOUNDS VERY SIMILAR TO THE STEERING ISSUE THAT RECENTLY CAUSED A GM RECALL ON THE COBALT, G4 AND G5. I'VE READ OF NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO MINE ON THE G6 AS WELL, BUT GM FAILED TO INCLUDE THAT MODEL IN THE RECALL. THIS FAILURE CAN TAKE PLACE ANYWHERE FROM SEVERAL TIMES A DAY TO ONCE EVERY FEW DAYS. *TR
THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD STAY ON WHEN YOUR FOOT WAS NOT ON THE BRAKE AND TURN OFF WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED. THIS CAR WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THE ORIGINAL RECALL SO I HAD IT FIXED AT A GM DEALER TWICE. IT NOW AS OF 6/21/13 HAS THE SAME CONDITION AGAIN. *TR
WE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH OUR 2006 G6. OUR EXTERIOR LIGHT SOMETIMES DOESN'T WORK, THE CRUISE CONTROL SOMETIMES DOESN'T WORK. WE HAD TO REPLACE AT OUR OWN EXPENSE THE BRAKE ROTORS DUE TO INFERIOR QUALITY. WE WERE HAVING THE VIBRATION ISSUE SOME MENTIONED. MY WIFE COULD NOT GET IT OUT OF PARK ONE DAY, WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. WE GOT THE SAME STORY ABOUT THE RECALL ABOUT NOT BEING COVERED BY THE RECALL AND HAVING TO GET IT DIAGNOSED AT OUR EXPENSE. LAST YEAR OUR BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED AND WE REAR ENDED A MINIVAN. I PURCHASED MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 IN AUGUST 2008 WITH 36,000 MILES .LESS THAN A YEAR LATER, THE AC COMPRESSOR ON THIS THREE YEAR OLD VEHICLE SEIZED. I BOUGHT 4 COOPER TIRES IN JANUARY 09 AT THE COST OF $702.00. I WENT IN ON 08/12/09 TO HAVE THEM ROTATED. I WAS INFORMED THAT 2 OF THE TIRES WERE FINE, BUT THAT 2 OF THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THESE ARE 60K TIRES AND I HAVE PUT 7K ON THEM. COOPER STATES THAT TO REPLACE THEM I WILL HAVE TO PAY 18% ON ONE TIRE AND 15% ON THE OTHER. MY CONTENTION IS THAT THESE WERE EVIDENTLY DEFECTIVE TIRES TO BEGIN WITH THAT WERE OBVIOUSLY NOT SAFE. I PREVIOUSLY LEASED A 2005 PONTIAC G6, AND LOVED THE CAR VERY MUCH. THROUGH MY LEASE, I JUST HAD ONE ISSUE, WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. SINCE THE RETURN OF THAT LEASE, I PURCHASED A 2006 G6 BECAUSE I REALLY ENJOYED THE CAR. HOWEVER, I AM NOW EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THIS CAR AS WELL. THE ISSUE IS REGARDING THE BRAKE LIGHTS. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL ILLUMINATE WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE DANGER OCCURS WHEN FELLOW DRIVERS ARE UNAWARE IF THE BRAKES ARE TRULY BEING PRESSED. WITH THE 2005, THIS PROBLEM PROGRESSED WHERE I ACTUALLY PRESSED THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ACTUALLY GO OFF, WHICH WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I ASSUME THAT SINCE I HAVE OWNED TWO CARS, AND BOTH HAVE NOW HAD THIS PROBLEM, THAT IT IS A WIDE-SPREAD ISSUE. SO, I CONDUCTED SOME RESEARCH, AND FOUND THAT APPEARS TO BE THE CASE. I FOUND INFORMATION REGARDING A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE ON SEVERAL WEBSITES, NOTING THAT THE RECALL BEGAN IN FEBRUARY OF 2009, AND ALSO PROVIDED INFORMATION TO CALL PONTIAC ABOUT IT. UPON CALLING THIS NUMBER, THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOUND REGARDING MY CAR. I FOUND IT TROUBLESOME THAT I FOUND RECALLS IN RESEARCH, BUT NOTHING WAS ISSUED THROUGH PONTIAC, SO I E-MAILED THEM ABOUT THE ISSUE ON 08/05/09. THEY RESPONDED WITH A PHONE CALL TO INFORM ME THERE WAS NO RECALL ON MY CAR. MY PONTIAC G6 POWER STEERING SIGNAL WAS COMING OWN FOR REPAIR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR AND FOUND THAT I NEEDED A NEW MOTOR PUMP. THE MOTOR GOT REPLACED, BUT THAT SAME NIGHT I GOT THE SAME MESSAGE ON MY DASH ABOUT POWER STEERING. I TOOK MY CAR BACK TO DEALER FOR ANOTHER LOOK AT THE CAR AND THEY FOUND THAT MY STEERING COLUMN NEEDS REPAIR. I COULDN'T BELIEVE THAT MY STEERING WHEEL NEEDS REPAIR CONSIDERING MY CAR IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD. MY WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM, SO I CALLED GM TO REPORT THE PROBLEM AND THEY TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING. THIS IS A FACTORY PROBLEM DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE CAR HAS ONLY 47,000 MILES AND THAT ITS NOT COMMON FOR THESE TYPE OF PROBLEMS EARLY IN THE MILEAGE. MY CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE DUE TO ACCIDENT CONCERNS, THIS COULD REALLY CAUSE DEATH BECAUSE IT POPS ON OUT OF NOWHERE AND LOCKS YOUR STEERING WHEEL. IMAGINE BEING ON THE HIGHWAY AND EVERYONE IS GOING 50-60 MPH AND YOU LOOSE CONTROL OF YOUR CAR AL OF A SUDDEN. I DRIVE 100 MILES BACK AND FORTH TO WORK EVERY DAY. EARLY ON, I HAD NOTICED SOME PULL IN THE STEERING WHEEL, BUT LIKENED IT TO AN ALIGNMENT PROBLEM. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL SHOP AND THEY ALIGNED THE CAR - EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. HOWEVER, I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THE CAR ALIGNED ABOUT ONCE EVERY 2 MONTHS AND BY AUGUST 2009, WAS ON MY 3RD SET OF TIRES IN 3 YEARS DUE TO UNEVEN TREAD WEAR. I ALSO BEGAN TO NOTICE THE STEERING WHEEL DITHER UPON STARTING THE CAR AND WHEN I WOULD BREAK, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD TURN SHARPLY LEFT. THE LOCAL SHOP LOOKED AT THE CAR AND DETERMINED THERE WAS A STEERING MOTOR ISSUE AND URGED ME TO CALL GM ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE - MIND YOU THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. AT THE TIME, THE CAR HAD ABOUT 75,000MI. AS SOON AS I TOLD THEM THIS INFORMATION, I BEGAN TO GET THE RUN AROUND AND THEY TOLD ME I HAD TO TAKE IT TO A GM DEALER BEFORE THEY WOULD EVEN CONSIDER TALKING TO ME ABOUT THE PROBLEM. OF COURSE, GM CHARGED TO ME LOOK AT IT AND DETERMINED I WOULD NEED A NEW STEERING MOTOR, STEERING COLUMN, AND TORQUE SENSOR TO THE TUNE OF $1000! I DID SOME RESEARCH AT THAT TIME AND FOUND OTHERS HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES. AND NOW GM ISSUES A RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM IN OTHER GM CARS DURING THE SAME YEARS! I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT THINGS TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM - I HAVE HAD THE STEERING MOTOR RE-CALIBRATED ON 4 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND AN INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REPLACED. THE CAR IS EASIER TO STEER, BUT I STILL GET A DITHER EVERYTIME I TURN THE CAR ON AND ONCE AGAIN IT IS OUT OF ALIGNMENT, AND I HAVE SOME UNEVEN TIRE WEAR. MY PROBLEM IS NOT AS SEVERE AS OTHERS, BUT THESE ARE ONLY TEMPORARY FIXES. IT HAS BEEN THE CONSENSUS OF ALL THE MECHANICS I HAVE TALKED TO INCLUDING THE ONES AT THE LOCAL GM DEALER THAT THE MOTOR WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED BEFORE I COMPLETELY LOOSE MY POWER STEERING ALTOGETHER. I PURCHASED THIS PONTIAC G6 IN 2008 USED. AT THE TIME, THE VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES. WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR I NOTICED MY CRUISE CONTROL WOULD STOP WORKING. AT THE TIME I WAS UNAWARE THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ALSO MALFUNCTIONING. I REALIZED THIS MALFUNCTION AFTER BEING NOTIFIED BY A RANDOM PERSON DRIVING BEHIND ME ON THE ROAD. SHE NOTIFIED ME THAT WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE MY LIGHTS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE AND WHEN I WAS NOT PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THEY WERE ILLUMINATING. A COMPLETE REVERSAL. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, I REALIZED THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED. WHEN I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP I WAS NOTIFIED THAT ALTHOUGH MY CAR WAS THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL, IT WAS A GTP AND WAS NOT COVERED IN THE RECALL. EVENTUALLY THE DEALERSHIP DECIDED TO PERFORM THE RECALL PROCEDURES WHICH ONLY TEMPORARILY CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. SINCE THAT ORIGINAL FIX, I HAVE HAD THE BRAKE MODULE CHANGED THREE OR FOUR TIMES, TAKEN TO TWO SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS AND ALSO TO A TRUSTED MECHANIC. NO ONE CAN GET THE PROBLEM CORRECTED. I AM NOW TOLD THERE IS A CHANCE IT IS THE BODY CONTROL MODULE. I AM SO TIRED OF SPENDING MONEY TO CORRECT A DEFECT IN THIS VEHICLE WITH ON GUARANTEE OF A FIX.
