TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING, FOLLOWED BY THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATION. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD; AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED WITH THE CONTINUOUS LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE POWER STEERING MOTOR. THE POWER STEERING MOTOR HAD BEEN REPLACED A TOTAL OF FIVE TIMES. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A MANUFACTURER VOLUNTARY RECALL NOTIFICATION RELATED TO THE STEERING AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO REIMBURSE FOR ANY OF THE PREVIOUS REPAIR EXPENSES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I WAS TURNING INTO THE PARKING LOT AT MY CHILD'S SCHOOL AND THE POWER STEELING FAILED-AGAIN. I NEARLY LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR WITH CHILDREN ALL AROUND. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED WITH THIS CAR. THE 1ST OCCURRED 10MONTHS AGO WHEN I WAS TURNING ONTO A HIGHWAY AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. AT THAT TIME I WAS NEARLY HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE CAR (2006 PONTIAC G6) WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE POWER STEERING AND REPLACED EVERYTHING. NOW, 10 MONTHS AND 6000 MILES LATER IT HAPPENS AGAIN. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 34,000 MILES ON IT AND IS NOW HAVING THE POWER STEERING REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME - NOW AT A COST OF OVER $1,000 TO ME. BOTH TIMES PEOPLE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. I AM NOW FEARFUL TO EVEN DRIVE MY CAR MUCH LESS LET MY CHILDREN GET IN IT. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS MODEL ONLINE AND HAVE FOUND HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE MADE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, YET THERE STILL HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL OF THESE CARS. WILL THE GOVERNMENT WAIT UNTIL THERE ARE FATALITIES IN ORDER TO STEP IN AND DO SOMETHING? *TR
I HAVE NOW HAD MY CAR ALITTLE OVER A YEAR NOW AND IM GETTING FED UP WITH IT. THE BRAKES ON MY CAR SEEM TO WORK ONLY WHEN THEY WANT TO THEN HAVE A GRINDING SOUND WHEN I PUSH THE BRAKE AND THE CAR ISN'T EVEN THAT OLD, WHEN I TURN MY WHEELS THE IS A KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE MOTOR, AND NOW MY RADIO IS ALL MESSED UP. THE RADIO WORKS BUT IT WONT TURN OFF. THE SCREEN ON THE RADIO SHUTS OFF BUT THE MUSIC KEEPS PLAYING AND I HAVE TO MANUALLY SHUT THE SYSTEM DOWN. I HAVE ONLY BOUGHT FROM PONTIAC IN THE PAST BUT HAVING TO DEAL WITH THIS NOW AND THE PROBLEMS JUST KEEP COMING I DON'T THINK I WILL EVER BUY A PONTIAC AGAIN! *TR
THE POWER STEERING ON MY PONTIAC G6 IS CONSTANTLY ACTING UP. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL DIFFERENT SHOPS LOOKED INTO THE PROBLEM AND STILL THE STEERING WHEEL WILL TIGHTEN UP WHILE I AM DRIVING. DOES SOMEONE HAS TO DIE OR GET HURT BEFORE THIS PROBLEM IS TAKEN CARE OF. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM, THERE ARE SEVERAL WITH COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET. EVERYTIME I GO DRIVE IT SEEM LIKE I HAVE TO WRESTLE WITH THE STEERING WHEEL. WHAT KIND OF CAR HAVE POWERSTEERING PROBLEM, BUT NO POWER STEERING PUMP TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS SCARED OUT OF MY MIND LAST NIGHT WHEN I TURNED ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND MY STEERING WHEEL TIGHTEN UP ON ME. IT WAS ALL I COULD DO TO PULL OVER AND RESTART MY CAR. AFTER I RESTARTED MY CAR, ALL WAS FINE FOR THE MOMENT. SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT WITH THE POWER STEERING IN THESE CARS. I WOULD HOPE THAT NO ONE GETS HURT OR DIE FROM THIS PROBLEM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, THEN THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. DIFFICULTY OR THE INABILITY TO STEER WHILE DRIVING INCREASED THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH. HE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE OUT OF THE GARAGE, THE POWER STEERING LOCKED UP. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE FAILURE, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF AND THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE MOVED. THE CONTACT HAD TO MANEUVER THE WHEEL SEVERAL TIMES AND TURN OFF THE VEHICLE OCCASIONALLY TO GET IT TO UNLOCK. THE FAILURE OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY TWENTY TIMES. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THE POWER STEERING MODULE WAS REPAIRED. SHE SPOKE WITH THE DEALER WHEN SHE BROUGHT IN THE VEHICLE, BUT THEY ONLY TURNED OFF THE LIGHT. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 44,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 43,700.
I HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC G6 WITH A MANUFACTURE DATE OF AUGUST 2005. THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT CONSTANTLY ON THIS VEHICLE(DAILY), REGARDLESS OF TEMPERATURE, SPEED, ROAD CONDITIONS, BACKING-UP,MOVING FORWARD, TURNING, DRIVING STRAIGHT. I HAVE FOUND SIMILAR COMPLAINTS (IN THE THOUSANDS) ONLINE. I WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE I HAD NO WARRANTY NOTHING COULD BE DONE OTHER THAN PAYING A VERY LARGE REPAIR BILL (900-1200). THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM TO HAVE. I AM CURRENTLY FINANCING THIS CAR AND I THINK IT'S AWFUL THAT THEY ARE STILL SELLING THEM. THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE HAVING A SIMILAR ISSUE PLEASE HELP US. *TR
WHEN I WOULD MAKE LEFT TURNS MY WHEEL WOULD MAKE A WEIRD NOISE. THEN ONE DAY I WAS PARKED AND WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE I HAD TO MAKE A SHARP LEFT TURN TO GET BACK ON THE MAIN ROAD. MY POWER STEERING HAD WENT OUT. NOW MY POWER STEERING GOES OUT WHEN MAKING LEFT TURNS. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR OVER THE LAST YEAR. THE POWER STEERING DOESN'T GO OUT EVERY TIME A LEFT TURN IS MADE BUT DOES GO OUT AT A MINIMUM OF ONCE A DAY. WHEN THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT I HAVE TO EITHER PULL OVER AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART OR REACH MY DESTINATION WITHOUT POWER STEERING WHICH IS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. *TR

THE CAR WAS PURCHASED FROM AUCTION IN APRIL OF 2006. I HAVE HAD THE CAR THREE YEARS NOW. FROM THE TIME THAT I PURCHASED THE CAR I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT STARTING. IT WILL TURN OVER BUT DIES IMMEDIATELY AFTER IT STARTS. IT USUALLY TAKE THREE TRIES BEFORE IT WILL START. TODAY I GOT IN MY CAR AND TURNED THE KEY NOTHING WOULD COME ON, NO LIGHTS NO RADIO NO NOISE NOTHING. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BATTERY. I TRIED IT THREE TIMES AND THEN ON THE FOURTH TIME IT STARTED LIKE NORMAL. I CHECKED THE BATTERY AND IT IS FINE. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THREE TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE BUT BECAUSE IT WOULD NO DO IT AT THAT TIME THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT, THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST DID NOT SHOW ANYTHING. THE SERVICE AIRBAG WARNING ALSO KEEPS DINGING. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN AND THEY RESET IT AND SAID IT WAS OK, NOW IT KEEPS DOING THE SAME THING BUT IT IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY TO HAVE IT SERVICED. I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH THE POWERSTEERING ALSO. THERE ARE TIMES IT WILL BE EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN AND THEN IN A FEW SECONDS IT IS EXTREMELY EASY AND NOW IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES. THE BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED TWO MONTHS AGO AND ABOUT TWO WEEKS AFTER THEY WERE REPLACED THEY HAVE STARTED MAKING A REALLY LOUD SQUEAKING NOISE AND SOMETIMES A GRINDING NOISE. NOT SURE WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE SINCE THE BRAKES WERE JUST MAINTENANCE. THE CAR HAS BEEN VERY DEPENDABLE BUT I AM AFRAID THAT IT WILL NOT STAY THAT WAY FOR LONG. *TR
I'VE HAD MY 06 G6 FOR A LITTLE OVER THREE YEARS AND THE CAR HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE. THE CAR HAS BEEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP AT LEAST 6 TIMES FOR THE SAME REASON OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS ONLY TO HAVE NOTHING DONE AND BE CHARGED RIDICULOUS PRICES. THE MAIN ISSUE IS A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE STEERING WHEN MAKING A TURN IN ANY DIRECTION. THE 1ST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE GEAR BOX AND HAD THAT REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, AND 6MTHS LATER THE EXACT NOISE IS BACK AND MY VEHICLE BACK IN THE DEALERSHIP. WELL THIS TIME IT'S NOT THE GEAR BOX IT'S THE SHAFT THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND IT'S NOT COVERED. GO FIGURE! MY NEXT QUESTION TO THE DEALER IS HOW IS IT THAT MY CAR IS MAKING THE SAME NOISE IT WAS MAKING 6MTHS AGO FROM THE EXACT SAME AREA AND IT'S SOMETHING DIFFERENT NOW AND NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY? HOW DO I KNOW THAT YOU HAVE COMPETENT WORKERS AND THEIR REPAIRING WHAT REALLY NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED? OTHERWISE I WOULDN'T BE HERE IN THIS DEALERSHIP EVERY 6MTHS LIKE IM ON THE PAYROLL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 4 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS; A CHIMING NOISE SOUNDED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE "POWER STEERING" WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL; SUDDENLY, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE DRIVER EXPERIENCED EXTREME DIFFICULTY MANEUVERING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF, RESTART IT, AND CONTINUE DRIVING WITH CAUTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A FAULTY POWER STEERING ASSEMBLY MODULE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION AT THE COST OF $734.25. IN ADDITION, THERE WERE FAILURES WITH THE STEERING COLUMN SENSOR AND THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR LATCH SENSOR. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THESE MALFUNCTIONS AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,969 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
AFTER DRIVING FOR A LITTLE WHILE MY POWER STEERING GOES COMPLETELY OUT CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE. THANK GOD I HAVE NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT..YET. I'VE HAD IT IN TO THE DEALER ONCE, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I WAS INSTRUCTED THAT NEXT TIME IT HAPPENS TO DRIVE IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALERSHIP WITHOUT TURNING THE CAR OFF. APPARENTLY SINCE IT'S ELECTRIC STEERING WHENEVER THE CAR IS SHUT OFF IT RESETS ITSELF. LAST NIGHT IT HAPPENED TWICE. OF COURSE, THE DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSED. I'M HONESTLY AFRAID TO BE IN MY CAR. I HAVE ANXIETY JUST WAITING FOR THE PROBLEM TO OCCUR. THIS MORNING MY HOPE IS TO JUST DRIVE AROUND AND WAIT FOR THE PROBLEM TO OCCUR, DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO PROVE TO THEM THE PROBLEM, THEN TRY AND FIND A WAY TO WORK. THE STEERING ON MY PONTIAC G6 FAILED WHILE TURNING LEFT INTO A PARKING SPOT. IT HAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN TAKEN IN TWICE BEFORE FOR NOISES IN THE FRONT END, NEITHER TIME WAS ANYTHING FOUND. IT IS ALSO JERKING INTERMITTENTLY. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE AND SEEING ALL OF THE OTHER INCIDENTS, I FELT IT IMPORTANT TO REPORT MY OWN PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. DURING BRAKE APPLICATION AT 40 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHIMMY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE CLEANED DUE TO CORROSION BUILD-UP. AFTER THE REPAIR THE FAILURE RESURFACED 5 MONTHS LATER. NO ADDITIONAL REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 33,000. UPDATED 12/08/09. *LJ UPDATED 12/10/09
THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 PONTIAC G6. CAR IS AT 51,000 MILES. I NOTICED THERE IS 7 YEAR/70,000 MILES EXTENDED COVERAGE ON THE 2005 PONTIAC G6'S FOR THE SAME ISSUE. TRYING TO WORK THINGS OUT WITH GM BUT AM CONSTANTLY BEING TOLD THAT MY VIN DOESN'T FALL UNDER THIS CATEGORY - WHICH I UNDERSTAND. THE POINT IS, THE DEALER CONFIRMED THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE AS THE BULLETIN STATES WITH THE MY 2005. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE!! SOMEONE WILL GET SERIOUSLY HURT IF THE ISSUE ISN'T ADDRESSED SOON!! POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, OUTSOURCED TO THE PHILLIPINES, WILL SWAY ME FROM EVER PURCHASING FROM GM AGAIN. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC G6 AND THE POWERSTEERING STOPS WORKING SOMETIMES. IT JUST LOCKS UP AND YOU CANT MOVE IT AT ALL. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS AT LOWER SPEEDS BUT IF IT HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY OR SOMETHING IT WOULD NOT BE SO EASY TO CONTROL. YOU CAN NOT MOVE THE WHEEL AT ALL WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED, I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT GM HAS NOT GOTTEN SUED OVER THIS. I HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ON FORUMS THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS ME. JUST TALKED WITH THE DEALER ABOUT THE RETURN OF THE CLUNKING NOISE IN MY PONTIAC G6. HAD MY CAR AT THE DEALER TWO YEARS AGO AND THEY REPAIRED THE PROBLEM KNOWN AS THE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. UNFORTUNATELY, FOR ME THEY ONLY WARRANTED THE REPLACEMENT FOR ONE YEAR. PROBABLY FOR THEIR OWN BENEFIT AS GM OBVIOUSLY KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO FIX IT. THE SERVICE MANAGER'S REPLY TO WHY I HAD TO REPLACE THIS AGAIN CARS DO BREAK DOWN. WHAT KIND OF RESPONSE IS THAT? NOW I CAN'T AFFORD TO REPLACE THIS AGAIN, AND COULD POTENTIALLY WRECK MY CAR IF I DON'T, BUT HAVE NO CHOICE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT CORRECTED THE KNOWN PROBLEM FOR YEARS. AS A CONSUMER, THIS IS NOT RIGHT AND THEY SHOULD RECALL THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 POWER STEERING. I HAVE HAD IT INTO THE DEALER WHO SAYS REPEATEDLY THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. IT WAS INITIALLY OCCURRING WHEN TURNING INTO A PARKING SPOT SLOWLY BUT NOW HAS INCREASED TO JUST A TURN ON THE ROAD. I HAVE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD/HIGHWAY AND RESTART MY CAR WHICH THEN RESETS THE POWER STEERING. IN ATLANTA TRAFFIC, THIS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND IT SEEMS THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. INITIAL RECALL ACTION WAS BEING CONSIDERED BACK IN 2007 BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN FORMALLY DONE. I WAS PLANNING ON MY SON USING THE CAR WHEN HE TURNS 16 BUT THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE THAT GM SHOULD BE CORRECTING FOR ITS CONSUMERS! THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION IN THIS MATTER. *TR
SEVERAL TIMES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE BY TURNING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION THE VEHICLE GOES THROUGH THE PROCESS BUT DOESN'T START. IT WILL MAKE A "WINDING" NOISE. IT WILL TAKE 2-3 ATTEMPTS TO GET THE VEHICLE STARTED. THIS HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 30-40 TIMES SINCE 2009. DURING THIS SAME PERIOD WHILE DRIVING THE BEEP ALARM INSIDE THE CAR BEGINS GOING OFF CAUSE IT READS THAT SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT WITHOUT A SEAT BELT. EACH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED THE SEAT WAS EMPTY. IN ADDITION, WHEN A PERSON HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND VACATES THE SEAT THE SEAT OR SENSOR STILL REGISTERS A PERSON THERE WITHOUT A SEAT BELT. DURING THE SAME TIME PERIOD I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHTS AND FRONT DRIVER SIDE ABOUT 6-8 TIMES. I HAD THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE MAKER LIGHT REPLACED AND IT WAS NOTICED THAT IT WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED. I'VE HAD TO REPLACE THE BACK BRAKE LIGHTS 6-8 TIMES. WHILE TRAVELING TO WORK ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 65MPH. I TAPPED ON THE BRAKE AND TURNED THE WHEEL TO AVOID AN OBJECT IN THE ROAD. WHEN I RELEASED PRESSURE OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL THE WHEELS WERE ALL LOCKED AND THE BRAKES WERE STILL ENGAGED. I SLID OUT OF CONTROL AND WAS UNABLE TO GET THE BRAKES TO RELEASE PRESSURE OFF THE WHEELS. I FINALLY CAME TO STOP BY HITTING THE CONCRETE MEDIAN. IF IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BUSIER TIME OF DAY I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A HORRIFIC ACCIDENT. I FEARED FOR MY LIFE DURING THIS INCIDENT. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE POWER STEERING FAILED AGAIN. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER FOR THE FOURTH TIME. ALL OF THE INCIDENTS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING LOW SPEEDS, SUCH AS 10 MPH OR ENTERING AND LEAVING PARKING LOTS. EACH TIME THE POWER STEERING FAILED, THE CONTACT HAD TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER AND RESTART IT SO THAT THE POWER STEERING WOULD RESET BACK TO NORMAL. THEN IN FEBRUARY OF 2009 I HEARD MORE RATTLING AND KNOCKING IN THE FRONT END. ON 2/10/09 DEALER REPLACED STEERING COLUMN AND STEERING SHAFT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY FAILURES; HOWEVER, THEY STATED THAT THE ISSUE WAS RELATED TO THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE ON THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRES. IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT THE TIRES BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CHECKED WITH OTHER MECHANICS, WHO DISAGREED WITH THIS DIAGNOSTIC. THE CONTACT RESEARCHED THE FAILURE AND DISCOVERED NUMEROUS OTHERS WHO WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME DEFECT WITH THEIR VEHICLES. SHE BELIEVES A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THIS FAILURE. AT 26,000 MILES, THE CONTACT HEARD CLANKING NOISES COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE STEERING SHAFT AND GEAR BOX WERE REPLACED AT THAT TIME, WHICH ONLY CORRECTED THE FAILURE TEMPORARILY. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 32,000.
I HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC G-6. WITHIN THE LAST FEW MONTHS I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY STEERING. AT RANDOM TIMES AT LEAST DAILY, IT WILL BECOME TOUGH TO MANAGE MY WHEEL AND STEER. THIS IS USUALLY BECAUSE THE WHEEL BEGINS TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ANY PATTERN TO WHEN IT OCCURS. IT CAN HAPPEN WHEN I JUST TURN THE CAR ON OR WHEN I AM OUT ON THE FREEWAY. NOR DOES THERE SEEM TO BE ANY ONE THING THAT MAKES IT STOP. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG AND INFORMED ME THE CAR IS PILOTING A NEW ELECTRONIC STEERING SYSTEM. THEY CLAIM A LITTLE SHAKING AS THE WHEEL FINDS ITS "REFERENCE CENTER" ARE NORMAL. THE STIFF WHEEL AND SHAKING I EXPERIENCE DO NOT SEEM NORMAL ALTHOUGH IT THE SYSTEM APPEARS TO BE WORKING CORRECTLY. I FIND IT ESPECIALLY TROUBLESOME WHEN IT RANDOMLY HAPPENS AS I AM TRAVELING 60 MPH DOWN A FREEWAY IN THE POURING RAIN AND IT BECOMES HARD TO CONTROL MY WHEEL. THE DEALER DID TRY TO RESET MY ELECTRONIC SYSTEM AND ZERO OUT THE WHEEL. THIS WAS TO NO AVAIL. HOWEVER, THEY CLAIMED THEY HAVE SEEN AN INCREASING NUMBER OF ISSUES WITH THE G-6 ELECTRONIC STEERING SYSTEM. ALTHOUGH I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT YET I AM AFRAID OF WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE IF MY STRENGTH IS UNABLE TO OVERCOME THE CAR'S STEERING TENDENCY THAT MAKES IT SHAKE AND RESISTANT TO CONTROL . I DO NOT SEE HOW IT IS ACCEPTABLE FOR CARS JUST OVER THREE YEARS OLD TO BE HAVING STEERING ISSUES OF THIS MAGNITUDE. *TR
