TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 PONTIAC G6. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND "ERROR" APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT PUSHED THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD INTO A PARKING LOT AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO HIS RESIDENCE. THREE DAYS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT CALLED TERRE HAUTE CHEVROLET (LOCATED AT 5377 S US HWY 41, TERRE HAUTE, IN 47802, (812) 298-2730) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
VEHICLE HAS BEEN SITTING SINCE THE FIRST OF FEBRUARY DUE TO A CONSTANT COOLANT LEAK. LEAK FIRST APPEARED AT BOTTOM CORNER PASSENGER SIDE OF RADIATOR, AND WITHIN A WEEK HAD ALSO SHOWED UP ON BOTTOM CORNER DRIVER SIDE OF RADIATOR. EVENTUALLY WOUND UP REPLACING THE OVERFLOW RESERVOIR, 3/4" HOSE TEE LOCATED DIRECTLY UNDER OVERFLOW, SEVERAL CLAMPS, TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES, INSTALLED BRAND NEW RADIATOR AND OIL PRESSURE SWITCH LOCATED DIRECTLY ABOVE OIL FILTER. AFTER 10 DAYS WITH ABSOLUTELY NO LEAKS, THEY REAPPEARED IN EXACTLY THE SAME LOCATIONS. FINALLY TRACED LEAK ON PASSENGER SIDE TO UPPER CORNER PASSENGER SIDE OF INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET, AND THE DRIVER SIDE LEAK TRACES TO ALMOST DIRECTLY AT THE COOLANT CROSSOVER PIPE GASKET. NOW, I'M AGAIN FACING ANOTHER $200 PAYOUT TO THE PARTS STORE.! I'M GOING TO MAKE THIS REPAIR MYSELF, AS I HAVE MADE ALL REPAIRS FOR THE PREVIOUS 6 MONTHS. MY 07 G6 WAS WONDERFUL FOR THE FIRST 3 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP, BUT THE LAST 3 YEARS HAVE BECOME NOTHING MORE THAN AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. IF I COULD FILE FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR MY EXPENSES DURING THIS TIME I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT THAT WITH THE PRICES OF PARTS, CURRENT HOURLY RATE CHARGE SET AT $75-$100 HOUR, AND REIMBURSEMENT FOR TIME SPENT WASTING TIME GOING TO PICK UP PARTS THE TOTAL WOULD MOST LIKELY COME OUT TO $8000-$9500. I CAN'T EVEN AFFORD TO PAY FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE, AND SADLY I ALSO CAN'T AFFORD TO CONTINUE INVESTING IN A VEHICLE THAT HAS BECOME A MECHANICAL MONSTROSITY WITH AN EXTREMELY VORACIOUS APPETITE FOR PARTS AND MONEY.

WHEN THE FLUID LEAKED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, THE LIQUID WAS STILL ORANGE. THE VEHICLE WAS INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESS WAY, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER / SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL ALERT COMES ON..I HAVE AN 07 PONTIC G6 THAT KEEPS GIVING ME A "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" MESSAGE, THEN CUTS YOUR POWER AND YOU CAN'T DRIVE MORE THAN ABOUT 30 MPH. THIS IS SO DANGEROUS TO HAVE THE POWER GO FROM 70 MPH TO 30, IT KEEPS DOING THAT. I HAVE REPLACED THE GAS PEDDLE ($180) AND IT STILL DOES THAT, SO I AM HAVE THE THRODDLE BODY REPLACED, GOD KNOWS WHAT THAT IS GOING TO COST ME. IS THERE ANY RECALLS ON THIS HAPPENING TO OTHERS? LIKE I SAID, IT IS VERY DANGEROUR WHEN YOUR PULLING OUT IN FRONT OF CARS AND IT DOES THIS.
THIS CAR IS AN AUTOMATIC AND WHEN PUT INTO DRIVE THE ENGINE JUMPS, WHEN DRIVING THE CAR DURING FIRST AND SECOND GEAR THE CAR JUMPS. THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON READS A CAMSHAFT SENSOR MALFUNCTION, THOSE WERE REPLACE AND THE SYSTEM RESET. ONCE THE CAR IS ON THE ROAD FOR TEN MINUTES THE CAR BEGINS TO DO THE SOMETHING. OVER AND OVER WHEN THE CAR SITS FOR TWO OR MORE DAYS THE CAR RESETS AUTOMATICALLY THEN LATER WHILE IN USE DOES IT AGAIN. OIL CHANGE DONE ENGINE FLUSH DONE CAMSHAFT SENSORS CHANGED. *TR

A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE NECK AND LEFT THUMB, WHICH DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.

WAS INFORMED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS BAD AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS WAS REPLACED THREE YEARS AGO SO I GOT A SECOND OPINION AND WAS GIVEN THE SAME DIAGNOSTIC. CALLED GM AND WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL EXPIRED AT 120,000 MILES. TECHNICALLY THE PART ON THE VEHICLE DOESN'T HAVE 120,000 MILES ON IT BECAUSE IT WAS REPLACED AT 65,000 MILES. AND I WAS NEVER SENT A RECALL NOTICE. *TR
RECENTLY SMELLED FUEL INSIDE CAR. PROBLEM WAS A LEAKING FUEL RAIL, WHICH I WAS TOLD WAS VERY UNUSUAL. $500 IN REPAIRS. THIS PART IS RARELY DEFECTIVE , VEHICLE HAS 47K MILES. OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT I AM LOOKING FOR SOME TYPE OF REIMBURSEMENT DUE TO THE SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN OF LEAKING FUEL IN A HOT ENGINE COMPARTMENT. *TR
MAY 2013 ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHEN MANUALLY DOWNSHIFTING. RESTARTS SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. APRIL 2014 ENGINE SHUTS OFF AFTER DECELERATING TO DRIVE OVER A SPEED HUMP. WILL NOT IMMEDIATELY RESTART AND MUST BE TOWED. TOW TRUCK DRIVER IS ABLE TO GET CAR STARTED BY JIGGLING THE KEY. APRIL 28, 2015 ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE WAITING AT STOPLIGHT. WILL NOT RESTART AND MUST BE TOWED. AGAIN, TOW TRUCK DRIVER JIGGLES THE KEY TO START THE ENGINE. APRIL 30, 2015 FUEL SYSTEM SERVICE AND ADJUST LOOSE TRANSMISSION CABLE - $203.25 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES BACK ON THE NEXT DAY. MAY 8, 2015 ENGINE SHUTS OFF AFTER DECELERATING TO DRIVE OVER A SPEED HUMP. RESTARTS SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. MAY 15, 2015 ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE COMING TO A STOP TO LET A CAR IN FRONT TURN LEFT. CAR RESTARTS AFTER A FEW MINUTES. EVERY TIME THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF, THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BREAKS FAIL AS WELL. FORTUNATELY, EVERY ONE OF THE NEARLY HALF-DOZEN TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED, IT HAS OCCURRED AT LOW SPEED OR WHILE STOPPED. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF THIS OCCURRED AT 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. ALTHOUGH THE G6 IS NOT INCLUDED AS ONE OF THE 20 MODELS AND 2.6 MILLION CARS RECALLED FOR A FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH, THE LIKENESSES BETWEEN MY ISSUES AND THESE OTHER CARS ARE STRIKINGLY SIMILAR.
THE CAR CAN NOT PASS NYS INSPECTION BECAUSE OF CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND SENSORS THERE ARE HUNDRED OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME COMPLAINTS ,MY WARRANTY ON CAR DOES NOT COVER IT I HAVE SPOKE TO GM AND THEY SAY I HAVE TO MAKE A COMPLAINT WITH YOU TO GET A RECALL I HOPING YOU CAN REALLY HELP BECAUSE I HAVE A CAR THAT I OWN JUST A YEAR AND HAVE TO MAKE PAYMENTS FOR 4 MORE YEARS ,THAT I CAN NOT USE OR AFFORD TO FIX ,AND IF PONTIAC HAS MADE RECALLS ON OTHER CARS FOR THIS. *TR
IN NOV. 2012 COOLANT BEGAN TO LEAK FROM CRACKED RADIATOR. REPLACED ORIGINAL RADIATOR WITH NEW AFTERMARKET RADIATOR. IN FEB. 2013 COOLANT BEGAN SLOW LEAK FROM RADIATOR CRACK AND HAD REPLACED AGAIN WITH NEW AFTERMARKET RADIATOR. IN MAY2013 COOLANT BEGAN LEAKING FROM RADIATOR, REPLACED WITH NEW AFTERMARKET RADIATOR IN JUNE 2013. *TR
I LIVE IN ARIZONA, AND I WAS DRIVING AND THERE WAS A VERY POTENT SMELL OF GASOLINE COMING THROUGH MY A/C VENTS, VERY HAZARDOUS TO MY HEALTH, ALSO COULD BE A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. I DID NOTICED THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE IN THE 2007 PONTIAC G5. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSE THAT A GASKET ATTACHED TO THE WATER PUMP HAD COME IN CONTACT WITH A DEX-COOL ANTI-FREEZE AND CAUSED A DETERIORATION OF THE GASKET AND THE METAL. AS A RESULT, THE WATER PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

THERE IS A SMELL, LIKE REALLY DIRTY SOCKS FROM THE DASH. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME THE CAR IS USED. TO SMELL IT YOU HAVE TO START THE CAR AND IT IS THERE. SOMETIMES THE HEATER IS ON OR THE AIR. IT ALSO BECOMES LESS NOTICEABLE WITH TIME, UP TO 10 MINUTES. IT IS A VERY STRONG SMELL. I DON'T BELIEVE IT IS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, WHICH HAS A DIFFERENT SMELL LIKE ROTTEN EGGS. BECAUSE IT GOES AWAY MOST THE TIME I DON'T THINK IS A DEAD MOUSE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. IT IS NOT A DEAD ANIMAL SMELL. HELP. YOU WANT TO JUMP OUT OF THE CAR THE FIRST TIME YOU SMELL IT. I DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS A CHEMICAL OR NOT BUT MY NOISE BURNS A LITTLE. *TR
