ON 2/22/14 AROUND 8:40 AM, I WAS TRAVELING TO WORK. I HAD STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION AND WAS WAITING FOR THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL TO TURN GREEN. WHEN THE TURN SIGNAL TURNED GREENED I PROCEEDED TO TURN; HOWEVER, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN. I WAS IN UTTER PANIC. I PULLED AS HARD AS I COULD AND BARELY GOT IT TO TURN IN TIME TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER CAR THAT WAS PREPARING TO MAKE THE RIGHT TURN AND A PEDESTRIAN WAITING ON THE CURB TO CROSS. I CONTINUED DRIVING TO STOP FROM IMPEDING TRAFFIC AND TRIED TO MOVE THE STEERING WILL BUT I HAD COMPLETELY LOST POWERING STEERING. I HAD TO TRY AND TURN OFF A BUSY CONGESTED MAIN STREET, WHEN I DID MY CAR SWUNG OUT REALLY FAR DUE TO LACK OF POWER STEERING. I'M JUST GLAD THAT I WAITED BEFORE TURNING OR ELSE I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT BY A CITY BUS. I PARKED AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND THEY TOWED MY CAR TO A GM DEALERSHIP. WHEN I ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL BECAUSE OF THE DANGEROUS NATURE OF THE OCCURRENCE , THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL ON FILE FOR MY VIN SO I HAD TO PAY OVER $750 FOR THE REPAIR. *TR
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILURE. UNABLE TO TURN VEHICLE AT LOW SPEEDS, DIFFICULT AT HIGH SPEEDS. *TR
WAS ON THRUWAY GOING 65MPH CAR SHUT OFF FOR THE THIRD INCIDENT IN APPROXIMATE OF A YEAR FROM OTHER 2 INCIDENTS. THIS TIME WAS OR COULD OF BEEN KILLED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM DUE TO RATE OF SPEED AND WHERE I WAS DRIVING ONTO AN ON RAMP WHERE I BROKE DOWN.CAR DEALER REPLACED ENGINE CONTROL MODULE #12612397. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR BECAUSE I KNOW THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I THINK THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE RECALLS GOING ON WITH GM BECAUSE THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING TO MY CAR. *TR
I DRIVE A PONTIAC G6 .. MY BRAKE LIGHTS JUST COME ON WHEN EVER THEY WANT. I HAVE HAD IT FIXED BY A DEALER BEFORE , BUT CAN'T AFFORD TO KEEP TAKING IT BACK IN. IT HAS HAPPEN TO MY CAR 4 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR. WE HAVE BEEN USING THE A FIX FOUND ON THE INTERNET BUT THAT DOESN'T WORK FOR LONG. AS I DRIVE 40 MIN. TO AND FROM WORK EACH DAY I FEAR THAT THIS IS HAPPENING AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT . I ALSO HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER G6'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WHILE I'M DRIVING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING AT NUMEROUS SPEEDS, THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONNECTOR MELTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 PONTIAC G6. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ACTIVATED, THE DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY DIM AND ILLUMINATE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE LIGHT BULB WAS REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED BY A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. CONNECTORS ON HEADLIGHTS BURNT OUT, SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM ON FORUMS AND MESSAGE BOARDS. LOW BEAM LIGHTS ARE INTERMITTENTLY WORKING, PASSENGER LIGHT STAYS OUT, CONNECTOR BURNT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND EXCESSIVE FORCE ON THE STEERING WHEEL WAS REQUIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN REBUILT THE STEERING COLUMN AND REPLACED THE LOWER CONTROL ARM. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14E04000 (STEERING) AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING. HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. ALSO, THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE BATTERY HAD TO BE REPLACED FOUR TIMES DUE TO ELECTRICAL VOLTAGE FLUCTUATIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
A WELD ON THE FRAME WHICH ANCHORS THE SEAT (DRIVER'S SIDE) TO THE BODY OF THE CAR HAS BROKEN, AND THE SEAT IS LOOSE AND ROCKS. *TR
2009 PONTIAC G6. PROBLEMS WITH IGNITION SWITCH. FAILS TO START CAR. MAY NOT BE ABLE TO TURN STEERING WHEEL. CANNOT TURN IGNITION SWITCH TO ANY POSITION. YOU HAVE TO JIGGLE THE KEY TO EVENTUALLY START VEHICLE AND THIS MAY NOT WORK AT ALL. MY SCENARIO POINTS OUT THAT GMS RECALL IS NOT UP TO DATE ON ALL IGNITION SWITCHES AND FURTHER ACCIDENTS WILL OCCUR. THERE IS CURRENTLY NO RECALL ON THIS IGNITION SWITCH. UPDATED 6/27/14*CN *TR
DRIVER SIDE HIGHLIGHT NOT WORKING. FURTHER INSPECTION SHOWS THAT THE HEADLIGHT WIRE IS CORRODED & BURNT. THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS CAR & SEVERAL OTHERS, YET GENERAL MOTORS REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL WHICH CAN LEAD TO A DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR

I SEE THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS VERY ISSUE FOR YEARS THRU 2008. MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON WHEN NOT BRAKING AND OFF WHEN BRAKING AND OF COURSE THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT WORK DURING THIS ISSUE. I SEE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AND I FIND IT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND HOW THIS CANNOT BE A SAFETY ISSUE AND RECALLED TO FIX. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN REARENDED MANY TIMES AND AM WONDERING IF SOMEONE HAS TO BE INVOLVED IN A FATAL ACCIDENT BEFORE THE NHSTA FORCED THE EXPANSION OF THE RECALL TO INCLUDE ALL YEARS THAT ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE.

POWER STEERING SHUTS OFF AT RANDOM WHILE DRIVING, AFFECTING THE ABILITY TO CONTROL DIRECTION OF STEERING ALMOST COMPLETELY. *TR
POWER STEERING NO LONGER WORKS AND WARNING ON IT COMES UP ON DISPLAY. THERE IS MANY COMPLAINTS FOR THIS FAILURE HAS BEEN REPORTED. MY WIFE AND I WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT THIS CAR IF WE WOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD ABOUT IT AHEAD OF TIME. GM DOES HAVE A RECALL ON OTHER MODELS OF SIMILAR VEHICLES. MY WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A ACCIDENT IF SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING AT THE TIME. SHE DRIVES THIS CAR MOST OF THE TIME. I CAN UNDERSTAND A FAILURE ON A PART WITH HIGH MILEAGE BUT THEY HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THIS PART. I HAVE DRIVEN MANY CARS WITH HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING WITH MILEAGE MUCH HIGHER MILES AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. THE REPAIR IS VERY PRICEY TO FIX. I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM IS VERY DANGEROUS AND THEY ARE DECEIVING THE PUBLIC FOR NOT FIXING IT AND REPORTING IT TO BUYERS. *TR

AS I WAS DRIVING TOWARDS MY HOME AFTER DARK, MY DRIVERS SIDE HEADLIGHT (LOW-BEAM) WENT OUT. BECAUSE I WAS ON A RURAL ROAD, I TURNED ON MY HIGH-BEAMS. IN LESS THAN A MINUTE AN I WENT BACK TO MY LOW-BEAMS DUE TO AN ONCOMING CAR AND I HAD NO LOW-BEAM LIGHTS AT ALL. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED MY HIGH-BEAMS BACK ON SO I COULD BE SEEN BY THE OTHER CAR. AFTER RETURNING HOME I INFORMED MY HUSBAND OF THE PROBLEM. THE NEXT MORNING HE CHECKED THE HEADLIGHT LAMPS AND FOUND THAT THE ELECTRICAL PLUG/SOCKETS TO BOTH LOW-BEAM LIGHTS WERE SHORTED-OUT, BURNED, AND MELTED. WHILE AT A LOCAL AUTO-PARTS STORE TRYING TO GET REPLACEMENT PIG-TAILS TO REPAIR THE LIGHTS I TALKED TO ONE OF THE SALES PERSONS WHO ALSO WORKS AT A LOCAL GM DEALERSHIP. HE TOLD ME THAT THEY SEE 6 TO 10 CARS A WEEK THAT HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND IT APPEARS TO BE VERY COMMON. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,000. DR
I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN SUMMER 2013. IT WAS FINE FOR A COUPLE MONTHS THEN THE CRUISE CONTROL STARTED GOING OUT AND THE ESC AND TRACTION CONTROL WOULD CODE AT THE SAME TIME. I SEARCHED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THE GM SERVICE BULLETIN THAT SAID TO REMOVE THE CONNECTORS FROM THE COMPUTER AND APPLY DIALECTIC GREASE DUE TO CORROSION. THIS WOULD WORK 30 TO 60 DAYS THEN I WOULD HAVE TO APPLY MORE GREASE. BEFORE CHRISTMAS I WAS DRIVING HOME AT NIGHT AND NOTICED THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE STUCK ON. I FOUND THAT THIS WOULD OFTEN HAPPEN AT THE SAME TIME THAT THE OTHER PROBLEMS WOULD CODE AND OTHER TIMES THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD JUST COME ON. I HAVE APPLIED GREASE SEVERAL TIMES THIS WINTER AND IT DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE. THE ESC AND TRACTION CONTROL CODE AT RANDOM TIMES, AND THE CRUISE CONTROL BECOMES INOPERABLE. THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS NOW ON AND STAYS ON. THESE ARE ALL ANNOYING BUT THE ISSUE THAT SCARES ME IS THE BRAKE LIGHTS COMING ON AT RANDOM TIMES WHEN I DON'T TOUCH THE BRAKE PEDAL. THAT IS OBVIOUSLY UNSAFE AND I WOULD HOPE THAT GM WOULD STEP UP AND FIX IT. THEY WOULDN'T HAVE ISSUED THE SERVICE BULLETIN IF THEY DIDN'T KNOW THERE WAS A PROBLEM, AND THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT FROM HAD SMEARED THE CONNECTORS HEAVY WITH GREASE SO THEY MUST HAVE READ THE SERVICE BULLETIN TOO. *TR
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, MY CAR STARTED TO DRIFT AND I WENT TO CORRECT AND THE CAR FLIPPED 4 TIMES. I WAS UNABLE TO STEER LEFT OR RIGHT, THE STEERING LOCKED UP. THERE WAS A POLICE OFFICER RIGHT BEHIND ME WHEN THIS HAPPENED, I DID NOT GET A TICKET FOR ANYTHING. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. THE TWO PASSENGERS WERE TAKEN TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM AND LATER RELEASED WITH MINOR INJURES. NOW I AM EXPERIENCING HEADACHES AND BACK PAIN AND KNEE PAIN. *TR

INSTEAD, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE WHEN THE CONTACT WAS NOT APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V252000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN I TURN THE KNOB TO DEFROCE IT MAKE NOISE. *TR
LESS THAN A MONTH AGO I REPLACED MY PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT. THIS WEEK IT WENT OUT AGAIN. I HAVE ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE THE DRIVER SIDE LIGHT ABOUT THREE TIMES. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW. I CHANGED THE FUSE FOR THE HEADLIGHT AND IT DID NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE. TWO DAYS AGO MY TAIL LIGHT STOPPED WORKING. THE FOLLOWING DAY IT WORKED IN THE MORNING AND STOPPED WORKING IN THE AFTERNOON. AFTER FINDING SO MANY COMPLAINTS ON DIFFERENT FORUMS ONLINE I'M NOT SURE HOW GM CAN NOT BE RECALLING THESE VEHICLES FOR THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE ALREADY GOTTEN PULLED OVER AND TOLD THAT I WOULD BE CITED THE NEXT TIME. I AM AFRAID THAT THE DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT WILL GO OUT BEFORE I CAN GET THE PASSENGER SIDE FIXED. OH YES AND MY LOCK CHAMBER ON MY PASSENGER SIDE BACK DOOR HAS GONE OUT. I HAD THE DRIVER SIDE BACK DOOR FIXED WHEN MY CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY HOWEVER, I AM ON A TIGHT BUDGET AND CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY OVER $300 FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX THIS. APPARENTLY THIS IS ALSO A PROBLEM WITH THE G6. I AM NERVOUS TO DRIVE MY CAR (THAT IS NOT EVEN 5 YEARS OLD MIND YOU) AT NIGHT! *TR
FOR APPROXIMATELY 6-8 MONTHS MY HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN CONSTANTLY GOING OUT. I HAVE REPLACED HEADLIGHTS ONCE A MONTH SINCE IT BEGAN. THIS IS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS SINCE MY HEADLIGHTS WILL GO OUT RANDOMLY WHILE I AM DRIVING. I FIGURED SINCE THE BRAKE RECALL WAS ELECTRICAL, THIS APPLIES TO THE WHOLE CAR, BUT GM SAYS IT DOES NOT AFFECT THE WHOLE CAR. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CORVETTES ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE AND I WOULD NEED TO PAY $100 DIAGNOSTIC FEE TO BE ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD. I THINK ELECTRICAL ISSUES AFFECT THE WHOLE CAR, BUT WITH ALL THE RECALLS GM IS TRYING TO AVOID WHAT IT CAN. I'M NOT A MECHANIC THOUGH. HOPEFULLY IF ENOUGH PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE GM WILL BE FORCED TO RECALL. *TR
THIS INITIALLY OCCURRED IN NOVEMBER OF 2013. MILEAGE IS ESTIMATED AT 120000 MILES AT THE TIME. ONE DAY WHILE DRIVING A MESSAGE CAME ON THE DASH THAT SAID POWER STEERING. ALTHOUGH I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO MY DESTINATION THE FORCE REQUIRED TO TURN THE WHEEL WHILE THE POWER ASSIST IS FAILING IS MASSIVE. I AM 6 FT TALL AND 200 POUNDS, AND I HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME MAKING A TURN OR SHARP CURVE WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND PAID $700 OR MORE TO HAVE IT FIXED. 14 MONTHS LATER THE SAME THING BEGAN TO HAPPEN AGAIN AND THE STEERING WHEEL WILL TWITCH AT IDLE. HOWEVER THE CAR STOPPED HAVING THE POWER STEERING FAILING ALL THE TIME UNTIL 3/10/2015. WITH 167000 MILES NOW ON THE CAR THE REPLACED POWER STEERING IS FAILING WITH REGULAR FREQUENCY, EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED AND I HAVE NO ASSIST. IF ANYTHING THE STEERING SYSTEM FIGHTS YOU TO PREVENT TURNING. ALSO IT SEEMS AS IF THE STEERING PINION JUMPS OFF A TOOTH WHEN TURNING AT A STOP I HEAR A STRANGE PINGING NOISE AND THEN THE CAR PULLS TO WHATEVER DIRECTION I TURNED TO AT THE STOP UNTIL I STOP AND TURN BACK THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. ALL IN ALL THE ORIGINAL POWER STEERING MODULE AND THE ONE I PAID TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL ONE HAVE BOTH FAILED MISERABLY AND ARE A REAL DANGER ON THE ROADS. IF I HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME WITH THE FORCE REQUIRED TO TURN THE WHEEL WHEN THE STEERING FAILS I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT SOMEONE SMALLER THAN ME WILL DO IF THIS HAPPENS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURE ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V036000 EXTERIOR LIGHTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000. *TR
I PURCHASED MY USED PONTIAC G6 IN OCTOBER 2013. BEFORE I BROUGHT MY CAR OFF THE LOT THE DEALERSHIP HAD TO REPLACE THE LEFT LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT. NO BIG DEAL I THOUGHT. WE'LL WE HAVE CHANGED THIS SAME HEADLIGHT 3 TIMES. TODAY 8/11/2014 IT NEEDS REPLACING AGAIN . MY HUSBAND WENT TO CHECK TO SEE IF MAYBE IT WAS UNPLUGGED AS WE KNEW THE BULB SHOULD HAVE BEEN FINE. WELL WHEN HE TOOK THE BACK PLASTIC COVER OFF TO CHECK MY HEADLIGHT WIRING WAS SMOKING. HOW LONG THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON I DO NOT KNOW. WE HAVE UNPLUGGED THIS HEADLIGHT BECAUSE I HAVE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE ABOUT 60 MILE EVERYDAY FOR WORK. WE'LL NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE IT. WHAT HAPPENS IF IT CATCHES FIRE WHILE ME AND MY GRANDCHILDREN ARE ON THE ROAD???? SO FAR I HAVE ONLY RECEIVED 1 RECALL NOTICE.# 13036. THAT ALONE IS ENOUGH FORMS TO STOP DRIVING IT. THIS IS ON MY DAUGHTER'S CAR. I WAS FOLLOWING HER AND I NOTICED SHE WAS DRIVING WITH HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I MOTIONED HER TO PULL OVER AND ASKED HER WHY SHE HAD HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE. SHE SAID SHE WAS NOT DRIVING WITH HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I FOUND OUT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE STAYING ON WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS NOT DEPRESSED, BUT WHEN SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL THE BRAKE LIGHTS ACTUALLY WENT OFF. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE CONDITION. DOING RESEARCH ONLINE I HAVE FOUND MANY OTHER PONTIAC G6 OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND FIXED BY GM. *TR

THE POWER STEERING JUST STOPPED WORKING THE LIGHT CAME ON THAT SAID POWER STEERING ESC. THIS IS VERY VERY DANGEROUS. CALLED GM AND THEY SAID THAT THE THERE WAS NOT A RECALL ON 2009 GS6. I TOLD THEM THERE WERE RECALLS FOR THIS IN PREVIOUS YEARS AND IT APPEARS THAT THEY HAVE NOT GOTTEN IT CORRECTED. *TR
BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON AUTOMATICALLY AND STAYED ON UNTIL BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSED. UPON GOING OUT, THEY WOULD COME BACK ON IN UNDER A MINUTE. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND WAS TOLD BY THE SAME DEALERSHIP THE FIRST TIME IT WAS THE SENSOR CASING. IT WAS RESEALED AND PROBLEM STOPPED. THIS TIME I WAS TOLD RESISTANCE IN BCM CONNECTORS. THEY CLEANED AND LUBE THE TERMINALS IN BOTH BCM CONNECTORS AND RESET BPP SENSOR. YET I WAS CHARGED THIS TIME EVENTHOUGH IT WAS THE SAME ISSUE REPORTED. THE SERVICE DEPT REP SAID IT WAS A DIFFERENT FIX AND THEREFORE NOT THE SAME. I KNOW THIS MUST BE A DEFECT BECAUSE I HAVE READ OTHER WITH THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
THE DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT BURNED OUT. I CHECKED THE BULB, AND THE CONNECTORS WERE BURNED AND MELTED ON THE LIGHT AS WELL AS THE HARNESS. I CHANGED THE HARNESS MYSELF, AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER. THERE IS A SEVERE MALFUNCTION IN THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENT OF THE HEADLIGHT SYSTEM. I AM AFRAID IF THIS CONTINUES TO OCCUR, IT COULD START A FIRE IN THE VEHICLE. POSSIBLY WHILE IT IS BEING DRIVEN. *TR
WHEN TRAVELING ABOVE ABOUT 10 MPH THE BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CRUISE CONTROL NO LONGER WORKED. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WENT OUT UNTIL THE CAR SLOWED TO ABOUT 10 MPH AT WHICH POINT THE BRAKE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. BRAKING WAS NORMAL AT ALL TIMES. WHEN PULLING AWAY FROM THE STOP, THE BRAKE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON AGAIN AROUND 10 MPH. THE CAR CONSISTENTLY DID THIS OVER A TRIP OF ABOUT 60 MILES. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALER, THE ISSUE WASN'T PRESENT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE SWITCH AND LUBRICATED A CONNECTION. THE ISSUE HAS RETURNED 2 DAYS LATER. THIS ISSUE COULD BECOME DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY DURING BRAKING ABOVE 10 MPH WHEN FOLLOWING VEHICLES WOULD NOT BE AWARE THAT THE CAR WAS BRAKING. *TR
HAVING PROBLEMS WITH HEADLIGHTS EITHER ONE OR THE OTHER GOES OUT WITHOUT WARNING SOMETIMES BOTH. HAVE REPLACED THE BULBS SEVERAL TIMES BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE OTHER NIGHT TRAVELING HOME IN THE DARK BOTH LIGHTS WENT OFF I HAD TO PULL OVER AND "SMACK" THE LENSES TO GET THE LIGHTS TO COME BACK ON. I SEE THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. WE HAVE HAD ONGOING ISSUES WITH THE REAR RUNNING LIGHTS SHORTING OUT AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOW BEAM GOING OUT. WE REPLACED FUSES FOR REAR RUNNING LIGHTS 4 TIMES. I WAS PULLED OVER BY LOCAL POLICE AND HAD TO BE PICKED UP TO GET HOME, LEAVING THE CAR AT POLICE STATION UNTIL I COULD DRIVE SAFELY IN DAYLIGHT. WE HAVE REPLACED THE LOW BEAM BULB 3 TIMES. THE LOW BEAM LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY WORK AT TIMES. NOW, AGAIN IT IS NOT WORKING AT ALL. I HAVE READ EXCESSIVE CONSUMER COMPLAINTS STATING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH 2009 PONTIAC G6 VEHICLES. *TR
AS I WAS TRAVELING TO WORK TODAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH, A COWORKER WAS FOLLOWING ME. WHEN WE ARRIVED AT WORK, HE SAID THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ON THE ENTIRE TIME HE WAS BEHIND ME, ABOUT 4 MILES. WHEN I TAPPED MY BRAKES TO MAKE THE TURN INTO OUR WORKS PARKING LOT, MY COWORKER SAID THE BRAKE LIGHTS TURNED OFF AND DID NOT TURN BACK ON, EVEN WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES IN THE PARKING LOT. 2009 PONTIAC G6 LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT FAILURE: "UNABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM" AS BEAMS WORK INTERMITTENTLY; MY LOCAL MECHANIC REPLACED LEFT LIGHT BULB, BUT REFERRED ME BACK TO DEALERSHIP AS "THIS WAS A KNOWN DEFECT IN THIS CAR." REPLACED LIGHT BULB (REPAIRED (MECHANIC WAS UNSURE, BUT REPLACED ANYWAY) AND LOW BEAMS WORKED A COUPLE OF DAYS, NOW ONE (RIGHT MORE RANDOMLY LEFT), AND SOMETIME BOTH LOW BEAMS FAIL INTERMITTENTLY. MY WIFE HAS RECEIVED ONE WARNING FROM POLICE; HEADLIGHT WAS WORKING AGAIN WHEN SHE RESTARTED CAR AFTER THE WARNING. WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY BOTH LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHTS FAIL WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. THESE RANDOM FAILURES IN LOW BEAM ILLUMINATION REQUIRES THE DRIVER (MY WIFE USUALLY) TO IMMEDIATELY SWITCH ON HIGH BEAMS. BOTH HIGH BEAM LIGHTS ARE WORKING AT THIS TIME, BUT THESE EVENTS TEND TO INFURIATE ONCOMING DRIVERS WHO HIGH BEAM BACK AT US, SO BOTH DRIVERS ARE BLINDED. IN MY OPINION, THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT ANY SPEED AT NIGHT OR IN THE RAIN DUE TO RANDOM LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT OUTAGES. THEREFORE, WE USE OF THE G6 IS LIMITED. THOUGH WE LIKE THE MODEL AND HAD HOPED FOR SEVERAL MORE YEARS OF USE, MY WIFE DOES NOT TRUST THE LIGHTS WILL STAY ON AT NIGHT, OR WHEN IT RAINS. I FEEL BAD ABOUT DUMPING THIS CAR ON THE USED/PRE-OWNED CAR MARKET WITHOUT FILING SOME FORM OF OFFICIAL COMPLAINT. FROM A BRIEF INTERNET SEARCH, THE MANUFACTURER (GM) APPEARS TO BE IGNORING THIS SAFETY ISSUE AS A STATISTICALLY INSIGNIFICANT PROBLEM. SADLY, GM WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO UNTIL PEOPLE DIE AND A CLASS ACTION SUIT IS FILED. I WOULD NOT CALL THE PONTIAC G6 A LEMON, IT IS JUST PLAIN TOO SCARY TO DRIVE UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS. I BOUGHT A USED 2009 PONTIAC G6 WITH 90,000 THOUSAND MILES ON IT. I HAVE HAD IT FOR A 1 YEAR AND 2 MONTHS BEFORE I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS. IT ALL STARTED MESSAGE SAYING "CHECK YOUR GAS CAP". I WOULD PULL OVER AND CHECK GAS CAP IT WAS VAPORIZED. I OPENED AND RECLOSED THIS WAS ABOUT 5 MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE IT TAKES 15 MINUTES TO GET TO FROM HOUSE TO TOWN. WITHIN 10 MINUTES MY GAS TANK WOULD WAD UP LIKE A PLASTIC BOTTLE AND WHEN I WOULD TURN CAR OFF AT WORK YOU COULD HEAR IT UN FOLDING. THIS WENT ON FOR 2 DAYS THEN ON THE 2ND TIME MY CHECK ENGINE CAME ON I CALLED AND TOOK TO A DEALERSHIP CLOSE TO ME. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE CARBON CANISTER IT WAS GOING TO COST 700.00 TO FIX. I DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY SO I DROVE FOR A FEW WEEKS LONGER THEN MY CAR WAS DIE WHEN YOU GO TO STOP AT RED LIGHTS OR SLOW DOWN. BOTH TIMES SEMI TRUCKS WERE BEHIND ME. THE SECOND TIME IT DID I CALLED MY HUSBAND CRYING SAID I WAS TOO SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR WITH ME OR MY SON IN IT. SO I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND TOOK TO THEM TO BE FIXED THIS WAS IN SEPTEMBER. THEY KEPT THE CAR A WEEK CHANGED CARBON FILTER AND FIXED SPEED CABLE THIS WAS MAKING THE CAR DIE. I GOT MY CAR BACK DROVE FROM DEALERSHIP AND STARTED TO DRIVE HOME WHEN I NOTICED CAR STILL NOT FIXED IT WAS SAYING I HAD NO GAS SO PUT GAS IN AND IT SAID I HAD 183 MILES WORTH OF GAS BY THE TIME I GOT HOME I HAD 134 MILES OF GAS LEFT. I HAD CALLED DEALERSHIP TO LET THEM KNOW THAT SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT SO IN LESS THEN 24 HOURS TOOK MY CAR BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY KEPT IT A WEEK SAYING GAS TANK NEED TO BE REPLACED SO THEY REPLACED IT AND REPLACED CARBON FILTER AGAIN. NOW THE CAR WORKS FINE JUST WANDERING HOW LONG BEFORE IT ACTS UP AGAIN. I CALLED PONTIAC HEADQUARTERS IN ALL THIS TIME AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO TO HELP WITH THE PROBLEM BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE ANY WARRANTY. *TR
