MY 2009 G6 HAS 38,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS. THE PIGTAILS ARE MELTED & BURNED. I HAVE TRIED TO REPLACE THESE EXACTLY AS THEY WERE HOOKED UP & NOW THE DRIVERS SIDE LIGHT WILL NOT WORK. *TR

THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE INSIDE OF THE HEADLIGHT CASING MELTED AND BURNED THE WIRING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS WOULD LOCK AND UNLOCK WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.

THERE WAS A CHIME AND "POWER STEERING" DISPLAYED ON THE DASH, NOTICED AN OCCASIONAL LOSS OF POWER STEERING. I CALLED WICKSTROM CHEVROLET IN ROSELLE AND I PROVIDED MY VIN NUMBER. THEY SAID IT WASN'T COVERED BY THE RECALL. I HAVE RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE ON MY CAR AND I'M EXPERIENCING A SIMILAR PROBLEM THAT THE RECALL DESCRIBES. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT DURING THE INCIDENT, THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT'S FACE STRUCK THE STEERING WHEEL CAUSING SERIOUS FACIAL INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO OPERATE AT NIGHT. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,979.
THE WIPERS FAILED TO WORK. BUT AFTER 10-15 MINUTES OF THE VEHICLE OPERATING THEY BEGAN TO THEN WORK. SOMETIMES THE WIPERS WOULD WORK WITH THE WASHERS AND HIGH SPEED ONLY. WHEN THE WIPERS WERE LEFT ON AND THE CAR WAS PARKED, THE BATTERY DRAINED AND WAS DEAD THE NEXT MORNING. THEN THE ENGINE ON TWO OCCASIONS ATTEMPTED TO START ITSELF WHEN SITTING AND NOT ON. ON ONE OCCASION IT SUCCESSFULLY STARTED ITSELF. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT STAYED ON.

POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY CAR WHILE AT A STOP SIGN. THE STEERING WHEEL JUST STARTED SHAKING AND I WASN'T IN DRIVING MOTION. THIS IS A KNOW ISSUE ALL OVER THE INTERNET REGARDING POWER STEERING FAILURE WITH PONITAC G6 2009. HOWEVER THERE IS NO RECALL TO FIX THIS ISSUE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND IF GM IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE WHY WON'T THEY DO A RECALL. GM PRODUCED UNSAFE CARS!! BECAUSE THERE'S NO RECALL I WILL HAVE TO HAVE THE CAR FIXED ON MY OWN. I SHOULD EXPECT A REFUND WHENEVER GM DECIDES TO DO A RECALL. *TR

WHEN I WENT TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK, ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS NO RESISTANCE IN THE SHIFT LEVER, IT MOVED BACK AND FORTH FREELY IN THE CASING. CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO PARK OR ANY OTHER GEAR. IT BROKE IN DRIVE AND WOULD NOT RESTART. HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO KEEP IT FROM ROLLING FORWARD, HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED . THE DEALER SAID WE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE SHIFT CABLE, AND SAID THE PART WAS A G.M. RECALL PART. HOWEVER, OUR CAR WASN'T COVERED ON THE RECALL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW A PART CAN BE RECALLED, BUT NOT ALL CARS WITH THE PART ARE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE AT ALL TO ME. I HAD TO PAY THE G.M DEALER $306. TO HAVE THE CAR FIXED. I REALLY WANT MY MONEY BACK, I WORK HARD FOR IT, AND THIS JUST ISN'T RIGHT. WE DID NOTIFY G.M. AND THEY TOLD US TO NOTIFY YOU. THANK YOU *TR
DRIVERS SIDE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING IN VERY BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS AT NIGHT. REPLACED BULB AND IT WORKED FOR 2 DAYS BEFORE THE SAME THING HAPPENED. REPLACED BULB AGAIN AND IT WORKED FOR ABOUT 10 DAYS BEFORE IT HAPPENED AGAIN. NOW LEARNING THAT THIS HAPPENS A LOT ON THIS CAR BECAUSE THE HARNESS CONNECTOR IS MELTING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT DUE TO CONSTANT OVERHEATING IT WILL NOT PERMANENTLY FIX THIS PROBLEM. 2009 PONTIAC G6. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE POWER STEERING ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK UP WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THE CONSUMER STATED THE STEERING LOCKING UP, WAS A RESULT OF THE STEERING TORQUE INPUT BEING DEFECTIVE.
WHEN PUTTING MY 2009 PONTIAC G6 INTO PARK THE KEY, SOMETIMES, GETS STUCK IN THE CYLINDER LOCK AND TAKES A LONG TIME TO GET IT OUT SIMILAR TO THE ISSUES GM IS HAVING WITH THE CHEVROLET COBALT AND OTHER OLDER VEHICLES. BECAUSE OF THIS, IT WILL NOT ALLOW ME LOCK THE DOORS. IN AUGUST, A GM EMPLOYEE SUBMITTED A CLAIM ON THEIR HELP THE CUSTOMER WEBSITE. I TOOK IT IN BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE; THEREFORE, GM WOULD NOT FIX IT. WHEN I SAW THE ARTICLE IN AUTOMOTIVE NEWS (HTTP://WWW.AUTONEWS.COM/ARTICLE/20141211/OEM/141219956/GM-OFFERS-FIX-ON-SMALL-CAR-IGNITIONS-TO-PREVENT-STUCK-KEYS) INDICATING THAT THERE IS A BULLETIN WHICH GM IS OFFERING TO REPAIR CUSTOMERS' CHEVROLET COBALTS AND OTHER OLDER SMALL CARS TO PREVENT KEYS FROM GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION, I IMMEDIATELY RE-OPENED MY CASE (71_1341032883) WITH THE GM EXECUTIVE OFFICE. ON JANUARY 1, 2015, THE KEY WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION THREE TIMES (I DOCUMENTED THE ISSUE IN A VIDEO). ON JANUARY 2ND, I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE KEY CAME OUT. THE DEALER USED A LUBRICANT WD-40 HOPING THAT WOULD RESOLVE THE ISSUE. GM SAYS SINCE IT IS NOT PART OF A RECALL OR THE BULLETIN INDICATE ABOVE, THEY WILL NOT FIX IT. I DO NOT WANT TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE UNATTENDED SO I WORK THE KEY UNTIL IT COMES OUT. SOMETIMES IT TAKES UP TO 5 MINUTES TO GET THE KEY TO RELEASE BUT I HAVE BEEN HAVING LUCK IN THAT AREA. I HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM ON/OFF FOR THE LAST 6 YEARS. SINCE THE DEALER CANNOT DUPLICATE, GM WILL NOT FIX IT. ARE OTHER G6 OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM? THE HEADLAMP SOCKET HAS BLOWN OUT 3 LIGHT BULBS SINCE JANUARY (IT IS NOW JULY). THE SOCKET HAS TOTALLY MELTED AND PARTS OF IT HAVE BROKEN OFF MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO REPLACE THE BULB AGAIN. THE SOCKET AND BULB HAVE BURN MARKS ON THEM.
THE DRIVERS SIDE, LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT HAS BEEN REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES. THE WIRING HARNESS MELTS! THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON COMPLAINT WITH G6 OWNERS. *JS
MY POWER STEERING JUST STOPPED WORKING. THE WARNING MESSAGE CAME ON AND THE CHIMES SOUNDED. I NOW ONLY HAVE MANUAL STEERING AND IT IS EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN. I KNOW THAT THERE IS A RECALL(S) OUT FOR THIS PROBLEM ON OTHER VEHICLES BUT FOR SOME REASON NOT MINE. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE BUT I HAVE NO CHOICE. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE HIGHWAY AND WENT TO CHANGE LANES AND MY VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO STEER. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND HAVE MY CAR HAULED HOME. I HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND HE INFORMED ME ABOUT A RECALL FOR THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING ASSIST. I CONTACTED DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND THEY SAID IT WASN'T PART OF THE RECALL FOR THIS DEFECTIVE PART EVEN THOUGH IT MATCHES THE YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL. *TR

THE GAS TANK ON THIS 2009 PONTIAC G6 GT IS LEAKING FUEL. CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALER, DEALER SAID THAT THE FUEL PUMP LOCATED IN THE GAS TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS IT IS LEAKING. FURTHER INVESTIGATION USING NON GM AUTO REPAIR SHOPS, I FOUND THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT ONLY ON THE G6 BUT MANY OF THE GM VEHICLES FROM 2005 TO 2009. I BELIEVE THAT GM SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL IMMEDIATELY DUE THE FUEL LEAKING FROM TANK AND SPLATTERING ONTO THE HOT EXHAUST SYSTEM. AT THIS TIME I'M NOT AWARE OF ANY DEATHS RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM BUT WILL CONTINUE MY RESEARCH. THIS IS MY 24 YEAR OLD NIECE'S CAR. I'M HER UNCLE. *TR

I REPLACES THE LEFT LOW BEAM LIGHT THREE TIMES IN ONE MONTH AND THEN TOOK TO DEALER WHO SAD THE HARNESS HAD MELTED. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. THIS IS SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS! *TR
FAULTY STEERING TORQUE SENSOR. RECALL ON YEAR,MAKE,MODEL BUT DOESNT INCLUDE MY VIN NHTSA RECALL # 14V-153, GM BULLETIN 14116. WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR IT MADE AN ALARM NOISE, THEN THE STEERING BECAME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. SHE WAS ABLE TO BRING MY CAR TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER WITHOUT HITTING ANYTHING. AFTER STARING AND STOPPING THE CAR MULTIPLE TIMES, AROUND 10 MINUTES LATER, THE STEERING RETURNED. I CONTACTED GM AND THEY OPENED A CASE # [XXX]. THEY SAID TO BRING TO THE DEALER AND HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. AFTER PAYING $93 THEY SAID IT WAS THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR, WHICH WAS A RECALLED ITEM ON A 2009 G6, BUT NOT MY PARTICULAR CAR. THE DEALER WANTED OVER $750 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I DISPUTED THIS TO THE DEALER AND THEY CONTACTED GM WHO AGREED TO LOWER THE COST TO $250 WHICH I DISPUTED. NOW THE CAR HAS NO POWER STEERING AT ALL. AFTER TRYING TO DISCUSS THIS FURTHER WITH GM DIRECTLY, THE SENIOR ADVISER TOLD ME MY CASE WAS CLOSED. I WAS TOLD I AGREED TO THE COST ASSISTANCE WHICH I DIDN'T. I AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM A HIGHER LEVEL GM ADVISER TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. AFTER READING THE NHTSA COMPLAINTS ABOUT OTHER 2009 G6 NON RECALLED STEERING PROBLEMS WHICH ARE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE RECALLED ONES I FEEL THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE GET HURT. I BECAME THE RECENT OWNER OF THE ABOVE VEHICLE. THERE IS A NOISE FROM THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE POWER STEERING IS SLIGHTLY HARD TO TURN. THERE ARE TWO RECALLS FOR POWER STEERING PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE HOWEVER CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE SAYS THAT THERE ARE NO ACTIVE RECALLS FOR THE STEERING PROBLEMS ON THIS CAR. THEY GAVE ME A REFERENCE #71-1410099624 FOR MY CALL. THIS CAR IS DRIVEN BY COLLEGE STUDENT DAUGHTER AND I WOULD NOT CARE FOR HER TO GET STRANDED DUE TO THE STEERING POWER PROBLEM. I DO NOT MIND SENDING THE CAR TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC, BUT I WOULD RATHER TAKE THE CAR TO A GM DEALER IF IT QUALIFIES FOR A RECALL. *TR

THERE IS A RECALL ON THE STEERING COLUMN ON PONTIAC G6'S DUE TO LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE I AM DRIVING. THE RECALL NUMBER IS #140115. I CALLED A GM DEALER TO SCHEDULE TO HAVE IT FIXED AND THEY ARE SAYING THEY DON'T HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS BUT IT IS CLEARLY RECALLED. I ALSO SEE ON THE RECALL WEBSITE THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. MY CAR POWER STEERING GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. FOR ABOUT THE LAST 6 MONTHS, WE HAVE TO WIGGLE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, WHILE WIGGLING THE STEERING WHEEL, IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO TURN THE KEY AND START THE CAR. I RECENTLY GOOGLED THE PROBLEM AND CAME ACROSS THE GMIGNITIONUPDATE.COM WEBSITE, AS WELL AS OTHER WEBSITES WITH INFORMATION REGARDING THIS RECALL. THE JUNE 2012 RECALL FOR STICKY IGNITION SWITCH INCLUDES THE PONTIAC G5 BUT NOT THE G6. HOW CAN WE GET THE G6 INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL? UP UNTIL NOW, I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A NUISANCE BUT AFTER READING ABOUT ALL THE ISSUES WITH THE IGNITION SWITCHES, AND THE DEATHS AND INJURIES THAT HAVE RESULTED, I'M A LOT MORE CONCERNED ABOUT CONTINUING TO USE THE CAR.
2009 PONTIAC G6 PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY GO OFF AND FINALLY STAYED OFF. AFTER REMOVING THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY, I FOUND A MELTED CONNECT TO THE LIGHT BULB ITSELF. I FOUND A REPLACEMENT CONNECTOR AT NAPA AUTO PARTS AND REPLACED IT. IT WORKED FOR 3 WEEKS AND WENT OUT AGAIN. UPON OPENING UP THE LIGHT, I FOUND THE NEW CONNECTOR MELTED AGAIN. THERE IS A WIRING PROBLEM CAUSING THIS CONNECTOR TO OVERHEAT. SAFETY CONCERN IS IF BOTH FAIL OVER TIME, THE DRIVER WILL NOT HAVE ANY HEADLIGHTS FOR NIGHTTIME DRIVING. ALSO, THE HEADLIGHTS ARE PART OF THE DAYTIME DRIVING LIGHTS. *TR

I TURNED INTO THE PARKING LOT WHERE I WORKED. ALARM SOUNDED, POWER STEERING WENT OUT, DIFFICULT TO STEER THE CAR. RADIO DISPLAYED: POWER STEERING LIGHT. AFTER WORK SHIFT WAS DONE, POWER STEERING FUNCTIONED. CAREFULLY DROVE HOME. ON ROUTE TURNED RIGHT ONTO TO STREET, POWER STEERING WENT OUT & POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. SWERVED INTO TURNING LANE: STEERING WAS TO DIFFICULT. FORTUNATE NO ONE WAS IN THE LANE. CAREFULLY DROVE HOME. POWER STEERING CAME BACK IN. NEXT DAY, CALLED DEALER SHIP & GM. GM TOLD ME THAT THERE ARE THREE COMPANIES WHO MADE THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST PART FOR MY MODEL OF G6 AND THAT ONLY ONE HAS BEEN RECALLED. EVEN THOUGH I AM HAVING THE SAME DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH MY POWER STEERING, MY VIN HAS NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BECAUSE MY PART CAME FROM ONE OF THE OTHER TWO MANUFACTURERS. GM WILL NOT PAY TO HAVE THE PART REPLACED. I'M DRIVING MY CAR, ONLY WHEN ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, FOR VERY SHORT DISTANCE TO WORK, BEING VERY CAREFUL NOT TO TURN WHEEL TOO TIGHTLY, BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING ASSIST HAS FAILED DURING TURNS. MY CONCERN IS SAFETY, THE HIGH COST OF THE REPAIR AND THAT OTHER G6S & CARS THAT ARE NOT UNDER THE RECALL, ALSO HAVE THE DEFECTIVE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST. THE CAR IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER, EVEN AT LOW SPEEDS, WHEN THE ASSIST TURNS OFF. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED TO ME WHILE AT A HIGHER SPEED, I AM SURE I WOULD HAVE RUN INTO ANOTHER CAR OR OFF THE ROAD. I KNOW I CAN'T BE THE ONLY 2009 G6 OWNER, NOT UNDER THE RECALL, HAVING THIS POWER STEERING FAILURE. I LIVE ALONE. THIS IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. WE ARE IN A WINTER STORM WATCH.
