TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN PARKING THE VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL HOURS AND LATER RE-ENTERING THE VEHICLE, THE ALARM WOULD MALFUNCTION ACTING AS IF SHE WAS ATTEMPTING TO STEAL THE VEHICLE. THE ALARM WOULD SOUND AND THE DOOR LOCKS WOULD AUTOMATICALLY LOCK HER IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THEY ADVISED HER TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. IN ADDITION, THE TAIL LIGHTS AND THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD ALSO FAIL SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 188,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 192,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 30 MPH WHEN THE BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED BUT DID NOT IMMEDIATELY RESPOND. THE CONTACT HAD TO CONTINUE PUMPING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GET A RESPONSE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINE GOING TO THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 106,000.
MY PLACE OF BUSINESS IS LESS THAN 5 MILES AWAY, GOT TO WORK SHUT OFF CAR AND IN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS ON FIRE. *TR
AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FROM HOME APPX 40 MINUTES, I PARKED THE VEHICLE IN THE PARKING GARAGE AT MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT AT APPX 7:57 AM. I WENT INTO THE BUILDING, UP TO MY FLOOR. AT APPX 8:03, WE WERE TOLD TO MOVE OUR CARS OUT OF THE GARAGE DUE TO A FIRE. WENT BACK TO PARKING GARAGE WHERE I SEE MY CAR BURNING AS WELL AS THE NEARBY CARS. DRIVER'S SIDE, DOORS, DASH, WINDSHIELD, STEERING WHEEL, WHEEL, ENTIRE HOOD AND ENGINE COMPLETELY MELTED/MANGLED/GONE, HOWEVER THE GLOVE BOX ON PASSENGER SIDE STILL WORKED AND CONTENTS WERE MERELY WET AND SOOTY. FOUR OTHER CARS NEAR MY VEHICLE ALSO CAUGHT FIRE AND THERE WAS ALSO DAMAGE TO BUILDING. FIRE REPORT WAS HANDED TO ME AFTER THEY PUT IT OUT WITH TIME STAMP OF 8:10. I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW FAST THIS HAPPENED. I'VE MISSED WORK, THE OTHER OWNERS ARE OUT VEHICLES, ONE EVEN HAD ONLY LIABILITY INSURANCE. THEY NOW ARE TRYING TO DETERMINE CAUSE AND IF MY INSURANCE COMPANY IS LIABLE. AFTER RECEIVING THE 2009 RECALL IN THE MAIL, I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE DEALER AND HAD THE ISSUE "FIXED". OWNED THE CAR FROM 2003 TIL THE FIRE ON THE 15TH. ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, ALL RECEIPTS KEPT, NOTHING REALLY MAJOR OVER THE YEARS, TIRES, OIL CHANGES, BRAKES, ROTORS, IF AN ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, IT WAS TAKEN CARE OF IMMEDIATELY. NO KNOWN ISSUES. I FEEL TERRIBLE FOR THE OTHER PEOPLE, I'M EMBARRASSED BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE I DIDN'T TAKE CARE OF MY CAR AND I WAS VIGILANT ABOUT ITS UPKEEP AS I DROVE IT FOR YEARS AND I LOVED IT! I HAVE BEEN STAYING WITH MY PARENTS, AND I LOST ABOUT $700 WORTH OF MISC ITEMS THAT BURNED IN THE CAR WHICH ARE NOT COVERED BECAUSE I'M NOT THE HOMEOWNER, NOR DO I HAVE A RENTERS POLICY BECAUSE I'M NOT RENTING. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SAFELY EXIT THE VEHICLE. A BY-PASSER EXTINGUISHED THE SMALL FLAMES UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED A SAFETY RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V118000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE CONSEQUENCE OF A FIRE AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL AND PLANNED TO NOTIFY THE MANUFACTURER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 122,000.
MY CARS INTAKE GASKET FAILED. OIL LEAK ALL OVER MOTOR AND ON REAR EXHAUST PIPE. COULD SMELL OIL BURNING. BOTTOM OF MOTOR AND TRANS. VERY WET WITH OIL. DEALER STATED VALVE COVER GASKETS ALSO LEAKING. FRONT VALVE GASKET REPLACED PER TSB RECALL 2-3 YEARS AGO FOR OIL LEAK AND MOTOR FIRES

THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND REMAINED AT THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V118000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) BUT DID NOT CONFIRM IF THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS VERY SIMILAR TO THAT DESCRIBED AS A CONSEQUENCE OF THE RECALL DEFECT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO PROVIDED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. MY VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE.
I HAD DROVE APPROX. 2 MILES, PARKED CAR, WENT INSIDE, 10 TO 15 MINUTES LATER, OUR FRIEND RAN IN, OUR CAR WAS ON FIRE. SINCE THIS OCCURRENCE, I HAVE FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RECALL (CALLS), ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. WE HAVE NEVER RECEIVED THESE RECALLS. THE DESCRIPTION GIVEN IN EA07008, SEEMS TO MATCH. THIS VEHICLE IS A LOSE, THE FIRE MELTED EVERYTHING BUT THE METAL, THE TIRES ARE EVEN MELTED ON THE FRONT. WHEN WE RAN OUTSIDE, THE FIRE WAS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. *TR

THE CONTACT THEN OPENED THE HOOD AND SAW FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AND WAS DEEMED AS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE INCIDENT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED AS THE ENGINE ROARED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AND JERKED. AS A RESULT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED IN ORDER TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THREE UNKNOWN SENSORS FROM THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING RACK AND PINION BECAME DETACHED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
I HAVE A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX THAT I'VE LOVED AND HAD FOR AT LEAST THE LAST 6 YEARS. AND 10-15 MINUTES AFTER PARKING IN MY DRIVEWAY 3 FEET AWAY, I HEARD A LOUD POP AND HISS OUTSIDE TO FIND SMOKE & FLAMES SHOOTING FROM THE HOOD! I HAD TO CALL 911 TO PUT OUT FIRE AND WAS SCARED TO DEATH MY JUST FILLED GAS TANK WOULD IGNITE AND BLOW UP THE CAR AND OUR HOUSE RIGHT NEXT TO IT! I ONLY HAVE LIABILITY SO INSURANCE CAN'T DO A THING. IT WAS A VERY CLOSE CALL AND I'M INVESTIGATING HOW AND WHY THIS HAPPENED. I WAS LUCKY IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AS I WAS JUST DRIVING IT. THE ENTIRE FRONT END WAS BURNT UP. IN SEPT 2011 MY 2000 PONTIAC GRAN PRIZ BURST INTO FLAMES UNDER THE HOOD IT WAS PARKED AT FARM CREDIT. I ONLY HAD LIABILITY INSURANCE SO NO CLAIM WAS FILED. I RECENTLY RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR A POSSIBLE ENGINE FIRE. I CONTACTED GM AND WAS TOLD NOTHING COULD BE DONE BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE THE CAR ANYMORE. OF COURSE I DON'T HAVE THE CAR IT BURNT COMPLETELY UP!!!
THIS IS THE SECOND PONTIAC GRAND PRIX I'VE OWNED. BOTH HAVE HAD BROKEN SWAY BARS ON THE RIGHT SIDE AT THE END NEAR THE SWAY BAR LINK. FIRST CAR HAD LESS THAN 80,000, SECOND CAR AROUND 110,000 MILES. THERE ARE ALSO NUMEROUS POSTS ONLINE OF EXACT FAILURE OF THIS SUSPENSION COMPONENT. UNSAFE WHEN LINK IS BROKEN DUE TO HANDLING PROBLEMS AND WONT PASS STATE SAFETY INSPECTIONS. *TR

HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 86,086.

ON NOVEMBER 26, 2010, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY CAUGHT FIRE TEN MINUTES AFTER IT WAS PARKED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE HAD NOT YET BEEN DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 147,000.

I WAS DRIVING MY DAUGHTER AND SON TO THE STORE AFTER SCHOOL. I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING BUT DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OFF IT. I DIDN'T SEE THE SMOKE BUT HAD SMELLED THE BURNING SMELL BEFORE. ANYWAY NOT FIVE MINUTES OF BEING IN THE STORE ,I WAS AT THE CHECK OUT LANE WONDERING WHAT WAS ON FIRE. TO MY SURPRISE IT WAS MY CAR. CAR HOOD COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. A GUY OUTSIDE IT STARTED SMOKING AND FLAMED UP NOT A MINUTE AFTER WE GOT OUT. WELL A MONTH AFTER MY CAR WAS DESTROYED I STARTED GETTING RECALL NOTIFICATIONS. OK,I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR SINCE 9/16/10. THE FIRST THING THAT STARTED HAPPENING WAS THE ELECTRIC SYSTEM. THE CAR WOULD CUT OFF WHILE I WAS RIDING (NO MATTER WHERE I WAS) SO I INVESTED SOME MONEY INTO GETTING THE PROBLEM FIXED, SO AT LEST I THOUGHT I DID. NOW MY ENGINE STOPPED ALL OF SUDDEN(11/15/11). THE CONTACT LATER DISCOVERED THAT THE TWO BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES THAT MERGED WERE RUSTED ENTIRELY. THE DEALER ADVISED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL AND ANY REPAIRS WOULD BE AT HIS EXPENSE. MY 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX RECEIVED RECALL #09047. I BROUGHT IT INTO MORRISEY PONTIAC FOR THE WORK. THREE WEEKS AFTER THE CAR WAS SUPPOSEDLY "REPAIRED", I HAD RETURNED TO MY DAUGHTERS HOUSE AND NOT 5 MINUTES AFTER THAT, WE HEARD FIRE SIRENS AND SAW FLASHING LIGHTS OUTSIDE. THERE WERE FLAMES COMING OUT OF MY HOOD SHOOTING ABOUT 8 FEET IN THE AIR. THE FIREMEN PUT THE FIRE OUT, BUT THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT TO THE FRONT OF MY CAR. I NOTIFIED MORRISEY PONTIAC & WAS TOLD THAT THEY REPAIRED THE CAR AS PER THE GENERAL MOTORS RECALL & I SHOULD TAKE UP DAMAGES TO MY CAR WITH THEM. I FILED A CLAIM WITH GENERAL MOTORS FILE #681357. THE PERSON HANDLING THIS CLAIM IS DAWN MCGUIN. IN SPEAKING WITH MS. MCGUIN SHE SAID GENERAL MOTORS WAS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FIRE, BUT WOULD OFFER ME $2,600.00 FOR THE DAMAGE. SHE TOLD ME THIS WAS THE KELLY BLUE BOOK VALUE OF MY CAR. WHEN SPEAKING WITH MY INSURANCE CO. & THE BODY SHOP WHERE THE CAR WAS TAKEN, THEY BOTH STATED THAT MY CAR IS WORTH BETWEEN $5,500 - $6,000. I THEN CALLED MS. MCGUIN. WHEN WE STARTED TO REVIEW MY CAR & ITS OPTIONS SHE DIDN'T HAVE THE CORRECT MODEL & ALL OF THE OPTIONS. SHE THEN SAID SHE WOULD GET BACK TO ME, AS OF THIS DATE SHE HAS NOT. I HAVE BEEN VERY PLEASED WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE ITS PURCHASE. I FEEL THAT THE REPAIR WAS EITHER NOT DONE OR NOT DONE CORRECTLY. SMELLING GASOLINE WHEN CAR WAS PARKED IN GARAGE. THE SMELL WAS VARIABLE BUT SEEMED TO BE STRONGER WHEN WEATHER WAS HOT. I CHECKED THE FUEL INJECTORS TO BE CERTAIN NO O-RING WAS LEAKING. NONE WERE LEAKING BUT I NOTICED SMALL AMOUNT OF GASOLINE ON THE VALVE COVER ON THE VALVE COVER CLOSET TO THE FIREWALL. CHECKING I FOUND THAT BY DEPRESSING THE "QUICK CONNECT" BETWEEN THE FUEL LINE AND THE FUEL RAIL I COULD MAKE A SMALL AMOUNT OF GASOLINE ESCAPE. LOOKING AT THE ENGINE COVER (LARGE PLASTIC COVER WITH V-6 3.8L ON IT) THAT THERE WAS AN INDENT IN THE INSULATION WHERE THIS WAS PRESSING ON THE FUEL LINE. I REMOVED THE COVER AND HAVE DRIVEN FOR 1 WEEK WITHOUT THE GASOLINE SMELL. I HAVE ORDERED A REPLACEMENT QUICK CONNECT. *TR

I EXPERIENCE THE SAME SMELL OF BURNING OIL THAT THE OWNERS OF THE SUPERCHARGED GTP ENGINES WERE WARNED TO LOOK OUT FOR. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE GTP ENGINES DUE TO MANIFOLD SEEPAGE. IT APPEARS THAT THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING WITH THE NATURALLY-ASPIRATED VERSION OF THAT SAME 3800-SERIES ENGINE AND THAT A MINOR FIX WAS IMPLEMENTED (NEW SPARK PLUG WIRE CASINGS AND MOUNTS TO MOVE THE WIRES OUT OF THE WAY OF THE HOT OIL SEEPAGE) WHEN GM HAS ALREADY HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE 3800-SERIES ENGINE LEAKING OIL AND CAUSING ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRES. THERE HAVE BEEN MORE THAN I CAN COUNT ON BOTH HANDS TO THE INCIDENTS THAT THIS CARE HAS STALLED. IT HAPPENS UNEXPECTEDLY AND I NEVER KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN, BUT IT ALWAYS SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. SO, I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND TRY AND START THE CAR. WHICH IT WILL START THEN SPUTTER AND STALL AND DIE. IT HAS HAD A NEW COMPUTER, 2 NEW FUEL PUMPS, FUEL RESISTOR, FUEL RELAY SWITCHES, STARTER, SUPERCHARGER, 2 FUSE BOXES WHICH ARE A DISCONTINUED PART THAT HAS TO COME FROM AN AUTO WRECKER, AND RECENTLY A WIRE THAT WAS FRAYED BEHIND THE FUSE BOX THAT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM. ALL THIS HAS BEEN DONE WITHIN THE LAST 10 MONTHS SINCE WE PURCHASED THE CAR ON PAYMENTS ON JUNE 1, 2009. NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM NOT SURE AS OF THIS LAST REPAIR IF IT HAS CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. MY MAIN CONCERN IS IF I WERE DRIVING ON A WINDY MOUNTAINOUS ROAD WITH NO TURNOUTS AND THE CAR DECIDED IT WANTED TO STALL, WHERE WOULD I GO OR DO. BECAUSE A CAR OR BIG RIG COULD BE COMING AROUND THE TURN AND NOT EVEN KNOW I WAS STOPPED. MY LIFE AND ANY OTHER DRIVERS OR PASSENGERS WOULD BE IN JEOPARDY OF BEING INJURED AND/OR KILLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED A SECOND TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
