I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM A LADY SHE WAS SELLING IT. A COUPLE WEEKS LATER I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNITION. WHEN I TRY TO TURN MY CAR OFF BY TURNING THE KEY BACKWARDS IT GETS STUCK AND I HAVE TO SIT THERE ANDAND CONSTANTLY JIGGLE THE KEY UNTIL I'M ABLE TO GET IT TO RELEASE. THIS HAPPENS ABOUT ONCE A WEEK BUT SOMETIMES TWICE A DAY THERE IS EVEN TIMES I CAN'T GET THE KEY OUT SO I'M FORCED TO LEAVE IT LIKE THAT REQUIRING A JUMP THE NEXT DAY. I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF MY CAR IS ON THE RECALL LIST FOR THE FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, SHE NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND DISCOVERED THAT THE COOLANT AND ENGINE OIL WAS LOW. THE CONTACT REFILLED THE FLUIDS AND THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, SMOKE EMITTED FROM THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING COOLANT AND ENGINE OIL AND THE VALVE COVER GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE IGNITION LOCKED AND THE IGNITION KEY FAILED TO BE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V701000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 191,000. UPDATED 03/15/16*LJ *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WAS STUCK AND THAT SOMEONE ELSE HAD TO COME PRY THE DOOR OPEN TO REMOVE THE CONTACT FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED FOR THE INCIDENT. IT WAS UNKNOWN IF ANY INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN: 09V116000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V701000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AFTER THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. MY PONTIAC GRAND PRIX 2002 CAUGHT FIRE IN MY DRIVEWAY A MERE 10 MINUTES AFTER I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE. 5 DAYS LATER I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY CAR FOR ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRES. I CONTACTED GM WHO TOOK RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE RECALL AND THEY REFUSED TO COMPENSATED FOR THE DAMAGE THE FIRE DID TO ME CAR. THE FIRE WAS DUE TO THE EXACT RECALL THAT GM SENT ME IN THE MAIL. THEY NEGLECTED TO NOTIFY ME, UNTIL MY CAR HAD ALREADY BEEN TOTALED FROM THE DAMAGE. THEY NOW SAY MY CAR WAS "OUT OF WARRANTY" AND REFUSE TO HELP. IF ITS "OUT OF WARRANTY" WHY DID THEY SAID ME A NOTICE SAYING THEY WOULD REPAIR THE RECALL FREE OF CHARGE. IF THEY TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE RECALL HOW CAN THEY NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DAMAGE THAT THE RECALLED PART CAUSED? I COULD HAVE BEEN IN THE VEHICLE, MY HOUSE WAS A MERE TWO FEET FROM THE CAR AND THE FIRE AND COULD HAVE BURNED DOWN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ACTIVATED IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO COAST DOWN AN EXIT RAMP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. AFTER INSERTING THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION SWITCH, IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO REMOVE FROM THE IGNITION. IN ADDITION, THE DIGITAL DISPLAY AND THE HEADLIGHTS FLICKERED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
I BOUGHT THE CAR AUGUST 2013 AND IT SEEMS LIKE THE COOLING SYSTEM HAS THE ISSUES. THE ENGINE LIGHT AS WELL AS THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ON EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE SUFFICIENT COOLANT. I SAW THERE WAS A RECALL REGARDING THE ISSUES BACK IN 2008 OR 2009. I CALLED THEM TODAY AND THEY TOLD ME THE RECALL HAS BEEN CLOSED. I CHECKED THE CAR FAX AND THERE WAS NO RECALLED DONE ON THIS CAR. EVERY TIME WHEN I AM DRIVING, I KEPT LOOKING AT THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE. EVERY TIME WHEN I AM DRIVING, I AM WORRY THERE WILL BE A BURNING SMELL. IT IS A SUCH METAL BURDEN FOR ME. I WISH I COULD BUY A NEWER CAR, BUT I AM A MEDICAL STUDENT AND I CANNOT AFFORD TOO MUCH FOR THE CAR. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THE RECALL IS STILL OPEN. *TR

PULLED INTO THE GARAGE AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. THE IGNITION SWITCH TURNED ENOUGH TO TURN THE CAR OFF BUT NOT FAR ENOUGH TO REMOVE THE KEY. TRIED JIGGLING THE KEY BACK AND FORTH AND IT STILL WOULD NOT COME OUT. LEFT KEY IN IGNITION AND PUSHED THE TRUNK RELEASE BUTTON ON THE KEY FOB, THE TRUNK OPENED AND THEN THE CAR TRIED TO START ITSELF WITHOUT ANYTHING TURNING THE KEY. THEN SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT FROM BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CAR WAS STUCK IN PARK AND COULD NOT GET INTO NEUTRAL TO PUSH OUT OF GARAGE. I BELIEVE FINALLY A FUSE POPPED. I OPENED THE HOOD AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND THE SMOKE STOPPED. I CALLED THE DEALER TO CHECK AND SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL THAT I MISSED BUT THEY TOLD ME THERE WERE NO RECALLS RELATING TO THE IGNITION. I TOOK SOME OF THE PLASTIC OFF UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL AND FOUND THAT ABOUT HALF OF THE IGNITION WIRING HARNESS WAS BURNED UP AND MELTED. *TR
MY VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING TSB: 06-07-30-023D 4T65E: TRANSMISSION 1-2 SHIFT SHUDDER AT LIGHT TO MODERATE ACCELERATION. I CALLED PONTIAC RECALL CENTER GAVE MY VIN AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT COVERED. EVENTHOUGH I GOT THIS RECALL AFTER TAKING MY CAR TO A NJ INSPECTION CENTER. *TR
AFTER TEN MINUTE DRIVE FROM WORK TO HOME, PARKED THE CAR & 5 MIN. LATER WAS INFORMED BY A NEIGHBOR THAT THE CAR WAS ON FIRE! I DID NOT SMELL BURNING OR ANYTHING UNUSUAL WHEN I PARKED IT. THE FLAMES WERE COMING OUT OF THE AIR INTAKE ON THE HOOD AND BURNING PLASTIC WAS DRIPPING OFF BELOW. MY SMALL FIRE EXTINGUISHER SETTLED DOWN THE FLAMES, HOWEVER BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED THE FIRE AND SMOKE HAD BECOME LARGER THAN BEFORE. THE CAR IS NOW TOTALED AND ALTHOUGH I HAD PREVIOUSLY RECEIVED A NOTICE FOR A EARLIER RECALL, AND TAKEN THE CAR IN TO THE DEALER, I NEVER RECEIVED A NOTICE FOR THE FIRE ISSUE. THE REPRESENTATIVE AT GM CLAIMS DIVISION SAID SINCE THE CAR WAS MORE THAN TEN YEARS OLD (DESPITE THE FACT I BOUGHT IT FROM THE PONTIAC DEALER MORE RECENTLY) I HAD NO RECOURSE. AFTER VERY LITTLE RESEARCH I FOUND THIS SAME SCENARIO ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND ASSUME IT WILL ONLY BECOME MORE COMMON AS THESE CARS CONTINUE TO AGE. HOPEFULLY A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WILL EMERGE AS THOSE PEOPLE WHO LOST THEIR INVESTMENT IN THEIR VEHICLE CONTINUE TO GROW. *TR

THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. PRIOR TO THE CRASH, THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED SHOULDER AND HEAD INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. RAIN/CAR WASH WATER POURING INTO BLOWER MOTOR DOWN THROUGH PASSENGER FLOORBOARD. IT IS CAUSING NOT ONLY WATER DAMAGE, BUT ELECTRICAL ISSUES AS WELL. HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR AND THE MOTOR ITSELF. HAVE ONLY HAD THIS MOTOR LESS THAN A YEAR AND IT IS ALREADY STARTING TO MAKE NOISE. HAVE ATTEMPTED SEVERAL FIXES INCLUDING A NEW RUBBER SEAL DIVERTER AND MOST RECENTLY, A NEW PLASTIC DIVERTER WHICH IS FITTED UNDER THE COWLING TO NO AVAIL. PLEASE HELP. *TR

ON 12/23/2012 AT 7:15PM WE JUST ARRIVED HOME & PARKED OUR 2002 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX IN OUR GARAGE. ABOUT 3 MINUTES LATER MY DAUGHTER WENT INTO THE GARAGE & CAME TO GET ME TELLING ME OUR GARAGE WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE. OUR CAR WAS ON FIRE. I TRIED TO RELEASE THE HOOD BUT IT DID NOT RELEASE. I TRIED TO START THE CAR TO DRIVE IT OUT OF THE GARAGE IT TURNED OVER BUT DIDN'T START. I TRIED TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL. THE GEAR SHIFT MOVED IN NEUTRAL POSITION BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT RELEASE. THE DOORS AUTOMATICALLY LOCKED. MY BROTHER IN LAW AND FAMILY JUST HAPPENED TO COME IN THE MIDDLE OF THESE EVENTS. HE HOOKED A CHAIN TO THE CAR AND DRUG IT OUT OF OUR GARAGE WITH HIS 4X4 TRUCK. THE DRIVERS WINDOW WAS BROKEN TO REGAIN ACCESS TO THE CAR AND TRY THE HOOD RELEASE AGAIN. THE HOOD WOULD STILL NOT RELEASE. A PRY BAR WAS USED TO FORCE THE HOOD OPEN. BUCKETS OF WATER WERE CONTINUALLY THROWN ON THE CAR DURING THIS ENTIRE EVENT. ONCE THE HOOD WAS OPEN THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT. THE CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS. *TR

AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WERE STILL NOT AVAILABLE AND NO ESTIMATED TIME FOR RECEIVING THE PARTS COULD BE GIVEN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 122,000.

MY CAR WAS PARKED AT A WALMART FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES WHEN I WAS NOTIFIED OVER THE INTERCOM TO REPORT TO THE SERVICE DESK. THEY INFORMED ME MY CAR WAS ON FIRE AND THEY HAD NOTIFIED 911. WHEN I GOT TO MY VEHICLE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. *TR

TIRES ARE UNABLE TO BE BALANCED DUE TO TREAD WEAR VERY UNEVEN..HAVE HAD IT TO SEVERAL MECHANICS ALL SAY SAME THING TIRES ARE DEFECT..THE ONLY SOLUTION PURCHASE NEW ONES..VERY UNSAFE FOR DRIVING AND MAY CAUSE ACCIDENT..CAR IS VERY SHAKING UNABLE TO FIX..HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ALIGNMENT OF CAR..IT IS PERFECT..IF CAR TO BE DRIVEN MAY BLOW A TIRE CAUSING AN ACCIDENT OR DEATH.. *JS
I PARKED MY CAR AT HOME WENT INTO THE HOUSE AND MY NEIGHBOR KNOCKED ON THE DOOR SAYING MY CAR WAS ON FIRE WHICH STARTED UNDER THE HOOD OF MY CAR. *JS
AS I PULLED INTO MY GARAGE, I NOTICED THERE WAS A LOT OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WHEN I OPENED THE HOOD, I FOUND THE ENGINE COVER WAS ON FIRE, THE FOAM ON THE UNDER SIDE OF THE COVER WAS MELTING AND DRIPPING ONTO THE HOT ENGINE. I TOOK THE COVER OFF AND PUT THE FIRE OUT WITHOUT DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL OR SPARK PLUG WIRES. I DID FOLLOW THROUGH ON THE RECALL SEVERAL YEARS AGO WHEN IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE OIL COULD CATCH FIRE ON THE REFLECTOR GUARD ON THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE, THAT IS GONE, BUT THIS SEEMS TO BE MADE OUT OF PLASTIC ON THE TOP OF THE ENGINE, SLIDING INTO A HOLE AT THE REAR AND HELD IN PLACE BY THE OIL CAP. IS IT SAFE TO RUN THIS WITHOUT THE COVER? WILL THE ENGINE CATCH THE INSULATION UNDER THE HOOD ON FIRE? I HAVE OWNED THIS SINCE NEW AND HAVE TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF IT, STILL IN VERY GOOD CONDITION WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THIS ISSUE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2002 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. UPON PARKING THE VEHICLE IN A PARKING SPACE AT AN APARTMENT COMPLEX, THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE. SHORTLY AFTER, A FIRE ERUPTED UNDER THE HOOD. MY FORMER VEHICLE, A 2002 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX, HAD A SAFETY RECALL TO PREVENT "ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE." I HAD THAT RECALL FIXED ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2011. ON OCTOBER 23, 2011, I DROVE IT FROM WORK TO HOME, APPROXIMATELY THREE MILES. MYSELF AND PASSENGER PARKED, AND TOOK A FEW THINGS INSIDE. WE NOTICED A BURNING SMELL, LIKE PLASTIC AND A FAINT ELECTRICAL SMELL, AND THOUGHT SOMEONE WAS BURNING TRASH, AS I HAD NEVER SMELLED THAT FROM MY VEHICLE BEFORE. I WENT RIGHT BACK OUT TO GET SOMETHING, AND SAW SMOKE BILLOWING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I POPPED THE HOOD, AND SAW THE GLOW OF FIRE; WE GRABBED FIRE EXTINGUISHERS, AND PUT OUT THE FIRE, WHICH WAS LOCATED IN PART ON THE PLASTIC HOOD COVER OVER THE ENGINE. THE CAR WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS AFTER ABOUT A WEEK OF SHUFFLING IT AROUND AND CALLING FOR PARTS. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES, INCLUDING OTHERS LIKE MYSELF, WHOSE ENGINE CAUGHT AFTER FIXING THE RECALL. THERE ARE ALSO SUGGESTIONS THAT THE PART FIXED ON THE RECALL IS NOT THE TRUE ORIGIN OF THE PROBLEM. THEN AGAIN, GM'S FIX FOR THE OIL SPLASHING OVER THE MANIFOLD IT IS TO PUT ON SPARK PLUG WIRE RETAINERS. I HAVE FOUND BOTH SIDES OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION ANTI ROLL BAR ON MY 2002 GRAND PRIX GTP TO HAVE CRACKS AT THE PINCH WELD, WHERE THE LINKS ATTACH. ON THE LHS IS IT PRETTY WELL CRACKED ALL THE WAY THROUGH, THE RHS IS CRACKED APPROX 50% OF THE WAY THROUGH. IT APPEARS THE ROAD SALT AND CORROSION IS GETTING IN BETWEEN THE PINCH WELD AND SPLITTING THE BAR IN TWO. THIS WOULD NOT BE A CATASTROPHIC LOSS OF CONTROL BUT WOULD GO FROM FIRM CORNERING TO WISHY WASHY. I AM A PROFESSIONAL TECHNICIAN BY TRADE AND DO MY OWN WORK ON MY POV'S. I CAN SUPPLY PICTURES IF NEEDED. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 77000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. I THINK THE MANUFACTURER ALSO NEEDS TO ADDRESS THE OIL PAN LEAKS AS WELL. THEY CAN LEAK AND DRAIN RIGHT ON TO THE EXHAUST. AGAIN THIS WAS FOUND BY A ROUTINE INSPECTION AND VERIFIED BY BUFFING IT OFF WITH A BUFFING WHEEL. *TR

I TOOK THE CAR TO A GM DEALER AND HAD THE RECALL WORK DONE ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2010. THE CAR WAS LOST DUE TO THE FIRE ON FEBRUARY 22, 2011. I LATER FOUND OUT THAT THE RECALL FOR CARS WITH SUPERCHARGED ENGINES INCLUDED REPLACING THE VALVE COVER GASKETS. AFTER MY VEHICLE STARTS MOVING, THE FUEL GAUGE RISES TO SHOW THAT THE FUEL TANK IS AT LEAST 2/3 TO 3/4 FULL. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE WHEN THE TANK IS LESS THAN 1/4 FULL. CURRENTLY, THE ONLY WAY I CAN BE REASONABLY SURE HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN MY TANK IS TO RESET THE TRIP ODOMETER EVERY TIME I FILL UP. I READ IN THE NEWSPAPER ABOUT SIMILAR OCCURRENCES IN 2005-2007 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZERS, GMC ENVOYS, BUICK RANIER, AND SAAB 9-7X VEHICLES. THE ARTICLE WENT ON TO SAY THAT NHTSA IS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING THE INCIDENTS. IT IS DIFFICULT TO SAY WHEN THIS FUEL GAUGE BEHAVIOR STARTED ON MY VEHICLE, THE DETERIORATION HAS BEEN GRADUAL. HOWEVER, IT HAS BECOME SO BAD NOW THAT I REALLY DO NOT TRUST THE READING ON MY FUEL GAUGE.
