THERMOSTAT BOUNCING UP AND DOWN TOOK TO DEALER HAD THERMOSTAT, LOWER INTAKE GASKETS AND UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD AND WATER PUMP REPLACED. TEMP NEEDLE GOES OVER HALF WHEN IDLING ON HOT DAYS BUT AS DRIVEN GOES DOWN. IT GOES UP AND DOWN. SPENT 1500 TO FIX. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS AND TRAC WARNING LAMPS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE BUT PROCEEDED TO REPLACE THE BRAKES. THE REMEDY FAILED TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD, THEN THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 168,000. A POLICE REPORT WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I AM WRITING THIS COMPLAINT,FOR ONE REASON. I WENT ONLINE TO FIND OUT IF THERE WAS ANY MORE RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE SINCE OWNING IT. IT WAS CALLED IN FOR THE FIRST ONE IN MAR. 2007 RIGHT AFTER I PURCHASED IN JUNE 2007 AND THERE HAS BEEN 5 MORE SINCE AND NEVER NOTIFIED ME. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,100.
I HAVE A 2003 GRAND PRIX SE AND EVERYTIME I TURN MY AC/HEATER ON MY HEADLIGHTS GO OFF, ITS 80+ DEGREES IN THE SUMMER TIME. I CAN'T KEEP DRIVING WITH MY WINDOWS DOWN ITS TOO HOT, NOT TO MENTION I CARRY MY FRIEND AND HER KID AROUND. I WORRY EVERY NIGHT DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THAT MY HEADLIGHTS WON'T WORK. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR ME AND OTHER TRAFFIC. I'VE READ MANY FORUMS AND WEBSITES CONTAINING PEOPLE WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. PLEASE MAKE A RECALL. IT WAS RAINING OUTSIDE AND I WAS DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEED WHEN TWO CARS IN FRONT OF ME THE MAN STARTED TO GO THROUGH A YELLOW LIGHT AND INSTEAD IMMEDIATELY STOPPED. I COULD NOT HIT MY BRAKES HARD ENOUGH TO PREVENT HITTING THE CARAVAN IN FRONT OF ME AND THE IMPACT WAS HARD ENOUGH THAT IT SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED MY FRONT AIR BAGS, WHICH IT DID NOT. IN ADDITION, I HAD MY SEAT BELT ON AND IT LOOSENED AND MY HEAD HIT THE ROOF OF THE CAR CAUSING MY HEAD TO HAVE A CUT AND START BLEEDING AND MY LEFT SIDE AFTER GOING TO THE ER AND HAVING X-RAYS, WAS FOUND TO HAVE SEVERE TISSUE BRUISING FROM THE IMPACT FROM THE SEAT BELT AND MY AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING. I NEED A FRONT END CAP TO GET MY CAR FIXED AND BEING ON DISABILITY WITH TWO CHILDREN, AM ON A FIXED INCOME AND I FEEL THAT PONTIAC SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR MY PARTS AND LABOR SO I CAN CONTINUE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2003 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX SE WITH A V-6 AND I GET WATER COMING IN THE PASSENGER SIDE EVERY TIME IT RAINS. ALSO THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS HARD OCCASIONALLY WHEN GOING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR. I WAS TOLD TO FIX THE LEAK WOULD BE AROUND $300 AND THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM.... ON 3/15/10 THE HOOD OF MY CAR WAS SMOKING. I CONTACT GMC REGARDING RECALL ON MY PONTIAC GRAND PRIX 2003. I WAS ADVISED TO TAKE CAR IN TO DEALER TO GET RECALL FIXED. THEY CLAIM THEY FIXED THE RECALL PROBLEM. I LEFT DEALER SHIP AND THE HOOD OF MY CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE AFTER LEAVING 5 MIN UP THE STREET TO A SERVICE CENTER. I WAS ADVISED TO TOW MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALER. THEY ARE CLAIMING THE RECALL WAS FIXED. HOWEVER, THE VERY SAME THING THAT THE RECALL WAS FOR HAPPENED. I AM IN FEAR OF DRIVING THIS CAR AGAIN UNLESS I KNOW THE PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED. MY CONCERN IS, IF THEY CLAIM THE RECALL PROBLEM WAS FIXED WHAT CAUSED THE HOOD OF THE CAR TO CATCH ON FIRE. I AM STILL WAITING FOR THEM TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. I AM FEARFUL FOR MY SAFETY OF MY LIFE AND OTHERS IF MY CAR IS NOT REPAIRED LIKE THEY CLAIM THAT IT WAS THE FIRST TIME. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2009, IT WAS OK FOR A FEW MONTHS, THE PLACE I BOUGHT MY VEHICLE PROVIDED A CARFAX AND CONTAINED 0 INFORMATION STATING NO REPAIRS HAVE EVER BEEN MADE. IT WAS THEN BEGINNING OF 2010. IT FELT LIKE THE FRONT SUSPENSION OR TY ROD CAME APART OR BROKE. THE STEERING IS OFF AND THE THE SUSPENSION JUMPS WHEN I DRIVE IT AND THE "OFF TRAC LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS NEVER GONE OFF. THEN I STARTED SMELLING SMOKE OR BURNING SMELL THAT WAS COMING FROM THE VENTS. NOW I'M BEING TOLD WHEN I HAD A RADIATOR FLUSH THAT THE COMPARTMENT HAS MASSIVE AMOUNT OF SLUDGE AT THE BOTTOM. THE ONLY WAY TO GET RID OF THAT IS TO GET A NEW RADIATOR. PLEASE ADVISE IF THESE COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED BY OTHER SAME VEHICLES. I NEED TO KNOW WHERE TO TAKE MY CAR FOR REPLACEMENT REPAIRS IN THE JOLIET/PLAINFIELD IL. AREA. *TR
I OWN A 2003 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX TODAY IS JULY 6 AND WITHIN THE LAST 3 WEEKS I HAVE HAD ALL FOUR WINDOWS IN MY CAR GO DOWN AND NOT COME BACK UP I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE REGULATORS ARE ALL OUT AND THAT THE COST OF REPAIR IS APPROX. 636.00 PER WINDOW IS THIS A KNOWN DEFECT? *TR
WHEN I TURN ON THE BLOWER SWITCH, THE BLOWER DOESN'T WORK AND THE HEADLIGHTS GO OUT. IT MAINLY HAPPENS ON THE LOWER SPEEDS BUT OCCASIONALLY HAPPENS ON HIGH SPEED ALSO. IT IS INTERMITTENT BUT HAPPENS AROUND 75% OF THE TIME. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT A YEAR. I HAVE CHECKED ALL FUSES AND RELAYS THAT SEEM TO BE RELATED AND FIND NO PROBLEMS THERE. *TR
ON MARCH 3, 2009; MY PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP CAUGHT ON FIRE WITHIN 10 MINUTES OF ME PARKING THE CAR IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE. I WENT INTO THE HOUSE AND WITHIN MINUTES MY NEIGHBORS WERE BANGING ON THE DOOR SAYING MY CAR IS ON FIRE. I ALREADY FILED A COMPLAINT WITH GM AS I WAS INFORMED OF A FACTORY RECALL BY BROWSING THE INTERNET. I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE AND GM SAYS "BECAUSE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED, MAYBE GM DOESN'T HAVE MY HOME ADDRESS". GM SAYS TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE IN IT'S POST-FIRE CONDITION UNTIL THEY INVESTIGATE. HOW LONG WILL THIS TAKE? NOW THAT I'M BROWSING MORE STORIES LIKE MINE INVOLVING ENGINE FIRES IN THE GRAND PRIX I'M MORE CONCERNED THAT GM IS NOT TAKING THIS MATTER SERIOUS ENOUGH. CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE IN GARAGE 10 MINUTES AFTER PARKING IT. ON CHECKING THE INTERNET, THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS CAR, BUT I WAS NOT NOTIFIED. NHTSA ID #08V118000, ISSUED 3/12/08. OWNER'S LETTERS FOR RECALL NOT SENT OUT BY GM BECAUSE OF INSUFFICIENT PARTS. "EDMUNDS.COM" WEB SITE INDICATES THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY INCIDENTS OF FIRE, SOME REPORTED TO NHTSA. I HAVE CONTACTED GM AND THEY HAVE BEEN UNRESPONSIVE. SINCE I HAVE INSURANCE THEY FEEL THAT IS SUFFICIENT. I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN, MY CAR WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND PAID FOR. NOW I MUST PURCHASE ANOTHER CAR, INCUR DEBT, ALL BECAUSE GM FAILED TO NOTIFY ME THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT THAT NEEDED TO BE FIXED. *TR

UPON FURTHER INSPECTION HE NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS DESTROYED. HE USED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. HE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND HAS NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE IN REFERENCE TO RECALL #09V116000 ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING .THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 116,985. I EXPERIENCED DUAL AIR BAG FAILURE IN MY 2003 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX IN JANUARY 2009. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45 MILES AN HOUR AND HIT A TREE HEAD ON. THE IMPACT WAS HARD ENOUGH THAT THE CAR BOUNCED OFF THE TREE AND SPUN AROUND IN THE ROAD. THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOTALED OUT THE CAR AFTER DETERMINING THAT THE COST TO REPAIR IT WOULD BE WELL OVER $6000. ALL THE DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR AND THE ENGINE. LUCKILY, I WAS WEARING MY SEATBELT WHICH SAVED ME FROM BEING SERIOUSLY INJURED. I AM NOT LOOKING FOR COMPENSATION BUT I DO WANT SOMEONE AWARE THAT THE 'SAFETY MEASURES' THE MANUFACTURER INSTALLED ARE NOT RELIABLE. HAD I BEEN FATALLY INJURED, I AM SURE THAT MY FAMILY WOULD HAVE SUED FOR THE MANUFACTURER'S NEGLIGENCE. UNFORTUNATELY, UNTIL THE AIRBAGS ARE NEEDED, YOU WON'T KNOW THEY ARE FAULTY. *TR
2003 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GT OF MINE HAS A DRIVER'S POWER ADJUST SEAT WHICH TENDS TO MOVE FORWARD ON ITS ON MOST RECENT DATE OCCURRED BELOW. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE ROTOR CONTAINED A RUST LINE. PRIOR TO THIS DISCOVERY, THE OUTER SURFACE OF THE ROTOR WAS THINNER AS IF IT WAS SHAVED DOWN. THERE WERE NO PRIOR FAILURES WITH THE ROTORS ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE ROTORS HAVE FOUR BLACK CIRCULAR LINES PROTRUDING FROM THE MACHINE SURFACE. ALL OF THE ROTORS ON THE VEHICLE ARE FAILING. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE WARRANTY WAS EXCEEDED; THEREFORE, THE REPAIRS WILL BE MADE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS ONLY A PIECE OF PLASTIC USED TO CLOSE THE ETR VALVE AT THE FUEL INJECTOR RAIL. THIS IS WHERE THE FUEL LINE CONNECTS WITH THE MOTOR. THE FAILURE CAUSES THE GASKET TO OVERHEAT, AND COULD LEAD TO AN ENGINE FIRE DUE TO FUEL LEAKING INTO THE OVERHEATED MOTOR. THE CONTACT IS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE.
2003 GRAND PRIX 3800 SERIS II ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRES I FOUND THAT THE CONNECTION FROM THE FUEL SUPPLY LINE TO THE FUEL RAIL FAILS WHEN ENGINE IS TURNED OFF THIS POOLS UP BY THE INJECTORS AFTER THE OWNERS ARE WELL AWAY FROM THE CAR. THERE IS A WEB SITE WWW.EDMUNDS.COM THAT TALKS OF A OIL LEAK FROM THE SUPERCHARGER, I THINK A CLOSER LOOK AT THE FUEL CONNECTION IS THE PLACE THE FIRES ARE COMING FROM. *TR
WHILE I'M PERSONALLY UNAWARE OF ANY CRASHES OR PEOPLE DYING DUE TO THIS PROBLEM ON THIS MODEL, GM HAS A WELL DOCUMENTED HISTORY OF BAD IGNITION SWITCHES ON OTHER MODELS THAT ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL THAT THEY HAVE KNOWN ABOUT FOR MANY YEARS. THE EFFECTS OF THE BAD IGNITION SWITCH WITH THIS MODEL ARE: 1. THE A/C - HEATER FAN BLOWER WORKS INTERMITTENTLY, IF YOU'RE LUCKY, AND THEN ONLY ON HIGH SPEED IF IT DOES. NONE OF THE OTHER SPEEDS WORK AT ALL. 2. WHEN YOU TRY TO TURN THE FAN MOTOR ON TO RUN THE HEATER OR A/C, THE HEADLIGHTS GO OUT. WHILE THERE ARE DIFFERENT SCHOOLS OF THOUGHT ON THE CAUSE, AFTER RESEARCHING THE INTERNET, ONE COMPONENT SEEMED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM EVERY TIME. YOU MUST REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE RESISTOR AS SOME SEEM TO THINK, BUT THE IGNITION SWITCH. THOSE WHO REPLACED THE RESISTOR ALWAYS HAD TO COME BACK AND REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH. THOSE WHO REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH HAD FEWER, IF ANY, PROBLEMS AFTER THAT. I WRITE THIS TO YOU BECAUSE I BELIEVE SOMEONE "UP THERE" NEEDS TO KNOW THIS INFORMATION. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT TOOK HIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V118000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). AT THAT TIME, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR GASKET ON HIS ENGINE WAS ALSO LEAKING. THE FRONT GASKET WAS REPLACED UNDER THE SAFETY RECALL REPAIR AND HE WAS CHARGED $200 FOR THE REPAIR OF THE REAR GASKET. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 46,620.
IN 2003 I PURCHASED A NEW 2003 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX 3.5L V6 WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I HAVE HAD IT SERVICED REGULARLY WHEN THE INSTRUMENTS HAVE INDICATED AND THE OWNERS MANUAL HAS SUGGESTED. AT APPROX 59000 MILE I HAD TO HAVE THE TOP AND BOTTOM HEAD GASKET SEALS REPLACED, AND THE AIR CONDITIONER COSTING $2500.00. THEN AT 68000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING AND HAD TO BE REBUILT AT A COST OF $3000.00 (SEVERAL PART ALONG WITH TORQUE CONVERTER). IN EACH CASE THE MECHANICS STATED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLES AND THAT THESE PARTS WERE INFERIOR. NOT TO MENTION THAT I WAS SOLD THE VEHICLE WITH A SOON TO BE OUT-DATED ONSTAR SYSTEM EVEN THOUGH GM NEW IT WOULD NEED REPLACE WITHIN A COUPLE OF YEARS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, BUT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INSTEAD. THE SPEED INCREASED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. SHE CONTINUED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AND SLID THE GEAR INTO PARK, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STOP MOVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WAS A LOT OF BUILD-UP IN SOME PARTS OF THE ENGINE. THE MECHANIC FURTHER STATED THAT THESE VEHICLES SHOULD BE BUILT TO WITHSTAND THESE ISSUES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
ABS & TCS LIGHTS ON & OFF, STAYS ON MOST OF THE TIME. SERIOUS SHAKING OF FRONT END. WHEN BRAKING FEELS LIKE PEDAL KICKS BACK. REPLACED SEVERAL PARTS 1 YR AGO WAS BETTER FOR A LITTLE WHILE, NOW IS WORSE. CHANGE FRONT AXLE TO A GM AXLE. I HAVE ALL REPAIR PAPERS, CAR WAS IN SHOP APPROXIMATELY 7 TIMES. SHIFTER GETS STUCK IN PARK. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 GRANDPRIX AND THE FIRST TIME I USED THE HAZARDS ON FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES THE COLUMN STARTED SMOKING. IF I TURN THEM ON NOW IT WILL START INSTANTLY. THE OUTSIDE BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE ALSO QUIT WORKING AS A RESULT. I'M TOLD THAT IT IS BECAUSE OF THE WIRING IN THE COLUMN AND THAT EVERYTHING GOES THROUGH A CENTRAL LOCATION WHICH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. APPARENTLY BY STEERING THE CAR OVER TIME IT EVENTUALLY REMOVES THE OUTER COATING OF THE WIRING. I FEEL THAT GM SHOULD REPAIR THIS AT NO COST. I'M ALSO CONCERNED THAT PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW OF THIS PROBLEM AND IF THEY TURN THE HAZARDS ON AND WALK AWAY, THEY MAY NOT HAVE A CAR. *TR
LOUD TICKING AND OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHEN CAR STARTED. CHECKED OIL AND THE OIL WAS READING FULL. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAY CAR NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. $7000 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. THERE IS 90,000 KMS ON CAR AND IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED AND SYNTHETIC OIL AND PREMIUM GAS USED. DEC/06 HEARD TICKING TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP, THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE PROBLEM DID A HOT OIL CHANGE AND TICK STOPPED OR WAS MASKED. NOW WE HAVE A SEVERE PROBLEM, NEW ENGINE REQUIRED AND THE CAR IS WORTH NOTHING. IT ALSO APPEARS TO BE A GASKET PROBLEM. WAS THERE A RECALL, THIS SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING PROBLEM?

APPARENTLY HE RECEIVED WORD FROM HEADQUARTERS THAT IF WE HAD A 50,000 MILE CHECK-UP AT HIS DEALERSHIP AND PAY $425.00 THEN HE GM WOULDN'T CHARGE US TO CORRECT THE ABS AND TRAC LIGHT PROBLEM. THE WARRANTY IS GOOD UP TO 75,000, AND I PLAN TO GET THE REPAIRS MADE BY THE DEALER UNDER MY CONTRACT. MY QUESTION HERE CONCERNS THE SAFETY OF THIS CAR IF PIECES FALL OFF THAT SHOULD LAST THE LIFETIME OF A CAR. THEY ROTATED AND BALANCED TIRES, CHECKED EVERYTHING OUT AND STILL NOISE WAS THERE. I WAS ADVISED TO GET THE TIRES CHECKED OUT, THAT MAY BE THE PROBLEM. WENT TO SEARS AND RIGHT OFF THE BAT THEY FOUND THAT ONE OF THE TIRES HAD A FACTORY DEFECT. KNOWING THAT BUYING JUST ONE TIRE WOULD NOT BE THE RIGHT THING TO DO (OTHERS WITH ONLY 1/2 TREAD), HAD TO BUY 4 NEW TIRES.
