PONTIAC VIBE WITH ABOUT 80,000 MILES. I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 35 MPH WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SEIZED CAUSING THE FRONT WHEELS TO LOCK AND THE CAR TO LOOSE CONTROL TEMPORARILY. LUCKILY NO INJURIES DUE TO LACK OF SPEED AND TRAFFIC SITUATION. I MADE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS TO GENERAL MOTORS, AND THEY MADE NO OFFER TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE LOCAL GM DEALER WANTED $3500 TO DO THE REPAIR. I DID NOT HAVE THAT MONEY, SO I OPTED TO BY A USED TRANSMISSION AND HAVE A LOCAL SHOP INSTALL IT FOR A TOTAL OF $1300. I DO NOT HAVE THE BROKEN TRANSMISSION ANYMORE. I NOW HAVE ABOUT 140,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND THE TRANSMISSION IS SEIZED AGAIN. I HAVE NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. MY CONCERN IS THAT SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED AS A RESULT OF ON OF THESE TRANSMISSIONS SEIZING AND CAUSING THE CAR TO LOOSE CONTROL INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAVE HEARD OF MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUES. PLEASE ACT BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT. *TR
2003 PONTIAC VIBE WITH A RECALL FOR POWER WINDOWS. CONSUMER STATES THAT HE SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT AS INDICATED ON THE RECALL. HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS WOULDN'T BE AVAILABLE FOR 3 MORE DAYS. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED HE EXPERIENCED THE WINDOW FAILURE IN NOV 2007, HOWEVER HIS CLAIM WAS DENIED, BECAUSE ACCORDING TO CHEVROLET, THE PARTS THAT WERE REPLACED, WERE NOT THE PARTS COVERED BY THE RECALL. *JB
MY 2003 PONTIAC VIBE MANUAL TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 58,000 MILES. THE CAR STARTED MAKING A CLUNKING NOISE. TWO BLOCKS LATER IT CAME TO A DEAD STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AND COULD NOT BE PUSHED OUT OF THE WAY. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY FATAL PROBLEM IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY. PONTIAC WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM. THIS IS THE SAME CAR AS A TOYOTA MATRIX. THERE ARE MANY, MANY INCIDENTS OF BOTH MATRIXES AND VIBES WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION FAILURES AT LOW MILEAGE. *TR
HEARING A POPPING SOUND AT 2 SEPARATE TIMES WHILE RAISING THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW. HAVE CONCERN THAT WINDOW MAY BIND OR BREAK. POPPING SOUND HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS EVERYTIME THAT THE WINDOWS IS RAISED. WINDOW DOES NOT SHOW ANY EVIDENCE OF DAMAGE AT THIS TIME. *TR
THIS EVENING I PUT UP THE PASSENGER WINDOW ON MY 2003 PONTIAC VIBE. WHEN IT REACHED THE ALMOST CLOSED POINT IT MADE A LOUD POP NOISE AND RATTLE. I PUT THE WINDOW BACK DOWN TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED AND WHEN I TRIED TO PUT IT BACK UP IT WOULDN'T GO UP THE WHOLE WAY. THEN I DROVE HOME W/ THE WINDOW OPEN. WHEN I ARRIVED HOME I TRIED TO PUT THE WINDOW BACK DOWN AND THERE WAS A LOUD POP AND THE WINDOW JUST EXPLODED. THE GLASS FLEW INTO THE CAR AND CUT MY ARM. *JB

2003 PONTIAC VIBE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW SHATTERED WHEN PUTTING THE WINDOW UP ON OR ABOUT SEPT 14, 2007. *JB
WINDOW ON MY 2003 PONTIAC VIBE EXPLODED ONCE AND BRACKETS BROKE AGAIN AFTER FIRST REPAIR!!! SEEMS THE BRACKETS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOWS ARE POORLY MADE/FASTENED AND BREAK, CAUSING UNEVEN LIFT OF THE WINDOW AND "EXPLOSION" OF THE GLASS. LUCKILY I WAS AT A STOP SIGN WHEN THE WINDOW BROKE THE FIRST TIME OTHERWISE I WOULD OF CRASHED FROM THE SHOCK OF GLASS EXPLODING INTO MY FACE!!! THE SECOND TIME THE BRACKETS BROKE THE WINDOW JUST SLID DOWN AND I HAD THE DEALER PUT IT UP PERMANENTLY BECAUSE IT IS TOO MUCH OF A SAFETY HAZARD TO FIX AGAIN......ONLY TO HAVE IT HAPPEN OVER & OVER. *JB
DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW GRINDS AND POPS WHEN IT IS PARTIALLY ROLLED DOWN. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS AND THIS IS A CONSISTENT PROBLEMS WITH THESE VEHICLES. I AM TAKING IT TO A MECHANIC BEFORE IT GETS TO THE POINT OF THE GLASS EXPLODING. THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FURTHER SINCE IT COULD BE A POTENTIAL DEADLY SITUATION CONSIDERED THEIR GLASS COULD EXPLODE AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING. I WOULD LIKE TO URGE YOU TO ENCOURAGE GM/PONTIAC TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND ACCEPT SOME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THESE MANUFACTURING DEFECTS INSTEAD OF LETTING THESE COSTS BE PASSED ON TO THEIR CONSUMERS. *TR
SIDE FRONT WINDOWS ON 2003 PONTIAC VIBE SHATTERED WHILE RAISING ELECTRIC WINDOWS. BOTH SIDES SHATTERED ON SEPARATE DAYS THIS SUMMER. DRIVERS SIDE CAUSED CUTS TO FACE AND ARMS. BOTH WINDOWS WERE REPLACED. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 PONTIAC VIBE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKES WOULD NOT ADJUST AND THAT THE VEHICLE ONLY STOPPED USING ITS FRONT BRAKES. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VIN AND SPEED WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 75,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE FRONT BRAKES WERE EXCESSIVELY HOT. THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKE DRUM FELL OFF IN HIS HANDS WHEN HE REMOVED THE PRODUCTION TAB OFF THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. THE REAR ADJUSTER WAS CLOSED TIGHT. THE CONSUMER STATED THE REAR BRAKE MECHANICAL ADJUSTER IS INOPERATIVE. UPDATED 09/18/07. *JB
ON 8/17/7 MY FAMILY WAS PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY BECAUSE WE HEARD A NOISE IN THE FRONT END OF OUR 2003 PONTIAC VIBE. WHEN MY HUSBAND WAS ROLLING UP THE POWER WINDOW ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE THE WINDOW EXPLODED. SOMETIME BEFORE THAT THE PASSENGER WINDOW HAD COCKED INTO AN ODD POSITION AND WE PHYSICALLY PUT THE WINDOW BACK INTO PLACE AND LOCKED IT. WE FIGURED THE SAME THING MUST HAVE HAPPENED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BUT THIS TIME THE WINDOW BROKE. WE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY'D NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING BEFORE AND THEY DIDN'T THINK GM WOULD COVER. WHEN WE GOT INTO CONTACT THAT FOLLOWING MONDAY, THE MAN FROM THE BODY SHOP TOLD ME THAT GM WOULD NOT COVER ANY COSTS BECAUSE IT'S A GLASS ISSUE THAT WOULD NORMALLY BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I THEN ASKED FOR THE NUMBER FOR GM AND CONTACTED THEM MYSELF. I WAS ASSIGNED A CASE WORKER WHO COULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL SHE SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER FROM THE DEALER. THREE DAYS LATER I CONTACTED THE CASE WORKER AT GM WHO TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING BEFORE AND BECAUSE WE WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. SHE SAID I SHOULD CONTACT THE DEALER TO SEE IF THEY'D HELP. THE DEALER, OF COURSE, SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND WE SHOULD CONTACT GM . MY HUSBAND DECIDED TO CALL A DIFFERENT GM DEALER AND SEE IF THEY KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THEY HAD DEALT WITH THIS PROBLEM ON AT LEAST TWO OTHER OCCASIONS AND SAID THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE REGULATOR. SEARCHING THE INTERNET I'VE FOUND THAT MANY, MANY OTHER VIBE OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS . GM SEEMS TO NOT BE TAKING ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DEFECT BY COVERING THE COSTS OF REPAIR FOR THOSE WHO NEED THEM AND RECALLING THESE VEHICLES SO IT DOESN'T HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE. WHAT WILL IT TAKE BEFORE GM FIXES THIS PROBLEM...INJURY, DEATH? THEY SHOULD BE COVERING THE COSTS OF REPAIR AND LABOR FOR MY VIBE AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO'VE HAD TO BE INCONVENIENCED BY THIS ISSUE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 PONTIAC VIBE. THE CONTACT HEARD AN UNFAMILIAR NOISE WHILE ROLLING DOWN THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW. THE NOISE SOUNDED LIKE METAL RUBBING AGAINST GLASS, AS IF THE WINDOW WAS OFF TRACK. A DEALER HAS NOT DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE, HOWEVER, IT IS RELATED TO NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE07049. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE ANTILOCK BRAKES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,000.
2003 PONTIAC VIBE...HAVE HAD TO HAVE DRIVER SIDE POWER WINDOW REPAIRED TWICE. FIRST TIME A POPPING SOUND AND WINDOW SHIFTED OFF CENTER. 2ND TIME, WHILE DRIVING, RAISING THE WINDOW, A POPPING NOISE AND IT SHATTERED ALL OVER ME. PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW NOW MAKING A SLIGHT POPPING NOISE WHEN BEING RAISED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 PONTIAC VIBE. WHEN THE CONTACT PRESSED THE BUTTON TO ROLL DOWN THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW, IT MADE A POPPING NOISE. HE STATED THAT THE WINDOW COULD POSSIBLY CRACK AND BREAK WHILE DRIVING, WHICH HE CONSIDERED TO BE A SAFETY DEFECT. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS FIRST PURCHASED, THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW DID NOT WORK AND WAS REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THE CONTACT NOW BELIEVES THE FAILURE MAY HAVE BEEN PART OF THE DEFECT. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY INSTALLED A NEW WINDOW MECHANISM; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 51,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 PONTIAC VIBE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW SHATTERED AS IT ROLLED UP. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER TO CHECK FOR A DEFECT AND THEY INFORMED HIM THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES WITH THE WINDOW. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE AND HAD THE FAILURE REPAIRED BY A LOCAL GLASS REPAIR SHOP. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 33,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT POWER WINDOW SHATTERED WHILE BEING RAISED. THERE WAS ODD NOISES SIMILAR TO CLICKING AND THE OPERATION SEEMED IMPAIRED JUST PRIOR TO THE BREAKAGE. THE WINDOW WAS REPLACED IN JULY 2007 AND NOW IS MAKING SIMILAR NOISES AS BEFORE LEADING TO BELIEVE THAT THE INCIDENT COULD RE-OCCUR. MINOR CUTS TO FACE AND HANDS OCCURRED WHEN THE WINDOW SHATTERED AND IN THE SUBSEQUENT CLEANUP. *JB
I READ ARTICLE IN THE CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER REGARDING THE PONTIAC VIBE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW POPPING AND NOT GOING DOWN AND SHATTERING. THIS HAPPENED TO ME. I TOOK THE CAR INTO A PONTIAC DEALER BUT THEY DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY OTHER PRIOR COMPLAINTS? THEY DID CALL IN A GLASS GUY WHO REPLACED THE WINDOW AND I PAID FOR IT? *TR
NO ACTUAL FAILURE, YET. HOWEVER, FRONT PASSENGER ELECTRIC WINDOW CLICKS WHEN BEING PUT DOWN. IF THE WINDOW IS PART WAY DOWN IT RATTLES WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED (THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOES NOT). I AM SUBMITTING THIS AFTER HAVING READ THAT THIS PROBLEM IS UNDER INVESTIGATION AND POSSIBLE SUBJECT TO A RECALL. IT HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. *TR
WHILE PARKED RAISED THE DRIVER'S WINDOW AND IT IMPLODED, SPRAYING GLASS ALL THROUGH THE INTERIOR AND APPROXIMATELY 10 METERS OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. CUTS WERE SUSSTAINED ON ARMS AND LEGS. *AK
I WAS ROLLING UP THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW OF MY PONTIAC VIBE AND THE GLASS EXPLODED. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW POPS WHEN GOING UP & DOWN. IT IS INTEFERING WITH THE DOOR CHECK LINK. THIS WILL LIKELY BREAK THE GLASS AT SOME POINT. *TR
CATASTROPHIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON 2003 PONTIAC VIBE (5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION) RESULTED IN DIFFICULT VEHICLE CONTROL WHILE PULLING TO THE SIDE OF I-95. MECHANIC DIAGNOSED AS DUE TO FAULTY BEARING IN TRANSMISSION. CORRELATES WITH MANY REPORTS IN ONLINE FORUMS OF SAME VEHICLE HAVING TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT APPROXIMATELY 100,00 +/- 20,000 MILES. *TR
MY 2003 GRAND PRIX GTP, WHICH HAD REGULAR CAR MAINTENANCE SERVICE, CAUGHT ON FIRE IN THE PARKING LOT WHEN I WAS AT WORK. A CO-EMPLOYEE TOLD ME SHE HEARD THESE GRAND PRIX HAVE A HISTORY OF CATCHING ON FIRE AND I CHECKED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND ARTICLES THAT THEY DO HAVE A NUMBER OF REPORTS OF ENGINE FIRES, WHICH MINE WAS. THEREFORE, I THOUGHT I WOULD FILE A COMPLAINT REPORT.
WINDOW REGULATOR ON FRONT PASSENGER DOOR CONTINUES TO BREAK CAUSING CABLE TO COME OFF TRACK AND TANGLE IN DOOR AND WINDOW TABS TO BREAK OFF REQUIRING REPAIR (APPROX $250 USD). WINDOW HAS TO BE TAPED UP TO PREVENT FROM FALLING OUT OF CAR WHILE DRIVING. *TR
THE 2003 PONTIAC VIBE HAS THE WORST DASHBOARD LIGHTING OF ANY CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED. ON A SUNNY DAY IT IS DIFFICULT, IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO READ THE SPEEDOMETER, AND ODOMETER DUE TO THE FAULTY LIGHTING. IT IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THE DRIVER HAS TO TAKE EXTRA TIME TO TRY AND READ THE POORLY LIGHTED INSTRUMENTS. AS TO THE INCIDENT DATE BELOW, IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE WHEN BRIGHT SUNSHINE WASHES OUT THE DASHBOARD INFORMATION. I PERSONALLY HAVE NOT HAD ANY ACCIDENTS, BUT THE DESIGN CERTAINLY INCREASES THE CHANCE FOR A DRIVING MISHAP. I SPOKE TO PONTIAC OFFICIALS AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THEY JUST SHRUG THEIR SHOULDERS AND SAY THAT'S THE WAY THE CAR WAS DESIGNED. I HAVE SPOKEN TO OTHER VIBE OWNERS, WHO VOICE THE SAME COMPLAINT, AS WELL AS OWNERS OF THE TOYOTA MATRIX, WHICH HAS THE SAME UNSATISFACTORY DASH LIGHTING. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 PONTIAC VIBE. THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE POWER WINDOWS WERE INOPERABLE. THE WINDOW BOLTS WERE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED UNDER NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V162000 (VISIBILITY: GLASS, SIDE/REAR). THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT HAD NOT YET TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
WE HAVE A 2003 PONTIAC VIBE WITH THE STANDARD 5-SPEED TRANSMISSION. ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WAS PERFORMED (BY MYSELF, NOT THE DEALER). TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED AT ROUGHLY 82,000 MILES. YES, THIS REALLY RUINED OUR CHRISTMAS IN 2006 AS IT HAPPENED ON CHRISTMAS EVE WITH MY WIFE AND (THEN) 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE CAR. YES, IT REALLY STUNK THAT IT WAS JUST ENOUGH OUT OF WARRANTY TO NOT GIVE US ANY PROTECTION. HERE'S A FUNNY THING, THOUGH, THAT I THOUGHT WAS INTERESTING. WHEN WE WENT TO GET THE CAR AFTER BEING REPAIRED (AT A LITTLE COUNTRY GARAGE IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE) THE MECHANIC TOLD US THAT HE HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THE PREVIOUS MONTH WITH ANOTHER PONTIAC VIBE WITH THE 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION. STRANGE COINCIDENCE IN A TOWN WHERE THE POPULATION IS LESS THAN 2000, I THINK. WHAT ARE THE CHANCES? WE HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED TO THE TUNE OF $3000 AND STILL HAVE THE OLD ONE- THINKING THAT IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL A RECALL WAS PLACED ON THIS FAULTY TRANSMISSION. *TR
GM HAS PROBLEMS WITH ERRATIC FUEL SENSORS, AND THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR PEOPLE WHO TRAVEL A LOT AND HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH GAS THEY HAVE, OR DON'T HAVE IN THEIR CARS. I HAVE BROKE DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF A SNOWSTORM, ON A BUSY EXPRESSWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC BECAUSE I RAN OUT OF GAS BECAUSE MY GAS GAUGE WAS READING WRONG. THAT WAS IN ME 1991 CHEVROLET LUMINA. THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING WITH MY 2003 PONTIAC GRAND AM. I BELIEVE THAT THIS WHOLE THING SHOULD BE RECALLED BEING THAT IT IS NOT COVERED IN LEMON LAW FOR NEW YORK STATE AND A COSTLY REPAIR $(200-300 FOR THE PARTS) AND ADD ON THE $70 AN HOUR FOR LABOR. *JB
HAVE HAD TO REPLACE HEADLAMP BULBS (EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT) 3 TIMES WITHIN THE LAST YEAR. I HAVE BOUGHT THE MORE EXPENSIVE ONES THINKING THAT THE CHEAPER BULBS WERE THE PROBLEM AND IT IS STILL DOING IT. HAVE HAD 2003 VIBE SINCE NOVEMBER 2002 AND HAVE 125,000 MILES ON IT. FIRST SET OF HEADLAMPS LASTED 2 YEARS. *NM
I JUST HEARD ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE PONTIAC VIBE REGARDING THE FRONT WINDOWS. I TOO HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM, IT STARTED WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW AND AT FIRST IT WAS A POPPING AND CRACKING NOSE AND THEN THE WINDOW JUST SLAMMED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR. I TOOK MY CAR IN TO BE FIXED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY AND IT WAS. HOWEVER THAT DIDN'T STOP THE PROBLEM I HAVE SINCE HAVE HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN 3 DIFFERENT TIMES AND EVERY TIME THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE GLASS BECAUSE IT HAD SHATTERED AT THE BOTTOM. NOW THE SAME PROBLEM IS HAPPENING TO THE PASSENGER'S SIDE WINDOW. *TR
CAR STALLED ON ME WHILE ON A BUSY ROAD. ENDED UP BEING RELATED TO THE CARS PASSLOCK SYSTEM. COST $500 FOR TOWING AND REPAIRS. PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE HAPPENING AGAIN AS CAR STALLED ON ME WHILE ON THE ROAD AGAIN ON 12/11/2007 AND WOULD NOT START UP AGAIN. APPARENTLY THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM ON LATE 90'S EARLY 2000'S GM VEHICLES. CLUTCH ON 2003 PONTIAC VIBE GT BURNED OUT AT 52,000 MILES. PARTS WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. AFTER 2 WEEKS AT DEALER FOR REPAIRS, I PICKED THE CAR UP AND IT WAS NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY. RETURNED CAR TO DEALER. THE SECOND CLUTCH THEY INSTALLED IN CAR WAS DEFECTIVE. THE THIRD CLUTCH WAS OK, BUT CAR IS STILL NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY. CALLED PONTIAC ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID I SHOULD CHECK WITH THE DEALER ABOUT ANY PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSIONS. THE DEALER SAID THAT THEY HAD NO FACTORY WARNING ABOUT THE PROBLEM. CLEARLY THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE CLUTCH FLY WHEELS. *JB
2003 PONTIAC VIBE DRIVER WINDOW EXPLODED IN OCTOBER OF 2006. PONTIAC COVERED THE EXPENSE AFTER A FIGHT. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME OVER $400 TO REPLACE THE WINDOW. I WAS NOT INJURED BUT THERE WAS SO MUCH GLASS ALL OVER MY CAR, IT WAS EVEN UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT. *TR
THE FRONT BOLT THAT HOLDS & SUPPORTS THE WINDOW ON THE TRACK CAME LOOSE ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES OF MY CAR 2003 PONTIAC VIBE. ONCE THE BOLT DISLODGES, THE WINDOW WILL COME OFF THE TRACK DURING THE ROLLING DOWN OF THE WINDOW. ROLLING UP THE WINDOW WITH POWER WINDOW OPTION, THE WINDOW WILL SHATTER WITH A BIG BANG, SENDING SPLINTERS OF GLASS OVER THE DRIVER OR PASSENGER. BOTH TIMES THAT THIS HAPPEN TO ME, I WAS DRIVING, LUCKILY I WAS ON A COUNTRY ROAD WITH NO TRAFFIC. *NM

NOTICED A RHYTHMIC NOISE COMING FROM BEHIND GLOVE BOX. SOUND CAN ONLY BE HEARD FROM INTERIOR. UPON INSPECTION BEHIND GLOVE BOX FOUND THAT IT WAS COMING FROM THE AREA WHERE THE CABIN FILTER IS. THERE IS A FELT TYPE FILTER THAT IS MOUNTED UP ABOVE CABIN FILTER THAT IS MOVING, BUT CAN NOT FIND SOURCE OF PROBLEM. *JB
MY 2003 PONTIAC VIBE ENGINE WAS RUINED BECAUSE IT RAN LOW ON OIL. THE OIL LEVEL WARNING LIGHT NEVER CAME ON (AND NO OTHER WARNING LIGHT CAME ON EITHER). SINCE I WAS 3 WEEKS PAST THE END OF THE WARRANTY I HAD NO RECOURSE WITH GM. *NM

THE MECHANIC MENTIONED THAT THEY HAD RECEIVED SEVERAL VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ISSUE AND RECOMMENDED THAT THE CONTACT SPEAK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED WHO DETERMINED THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY THEREFORE THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE WINDOW. UPDATED *JB

I OWN A PONTIAC VIBE, PURCHASED NEW IN 2003. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE I NOTICED HOW DIFFICULT IT WAS TO READ THE RED LIGHTED INSTRUMENT PANEL ON SUNNY DAYS. THE SPEEDOMETER NUMBERS AND ODOMETER READINGS ARE SOMETIMES WASHED OUT ON SUNNY DAYS. I RECENTLY TOOK A FOUR THOUSAND MILE TRIP THROUGH THE SOUTHWEST, AND WAS VERY CONCERNED OVER MY INABILITY AT TIMES TO READ HOW FAST I WAS GOING ON THE SPEEDOMETER, AND HOW FAR I WAS FROM MY DESTINATION DUE TO THE DIFFICULTY READING THE ODOMETER. TRYING TO READ THIS INFORMATION GOING AT SPEEDS UP TO 75 MILES AN HOUR WAS VERY NERVE-WRACKING AND DANGEROUS. THE SERVICE PERSONNEL AT MY LOCAL PONTIAC DEALER SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO INCREASE THE LIGHTING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, ADDING, NOBODY ELSE HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS. I HAVE SEEN, HOWEVER ON ONE WEBSITE, SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS TROUBLESOME DASHBOARD DESIGN. I AM CURRENTLY STUCK WITH THE VEHICLE AND AM STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON IT. IT IS A NICE CAR, BUT PONTIAC NEED TO REDESIGN THIS INSTRUMENT PANEL BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. IT IS THE MOST UNUSUAL, AND UNSATISFACTORY INSTRUMENTATION I HAVE SEEN ON A CAR, AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR OVER 56 YEARS. THE DRIVER SIDE POWER WINDOW MADE A CLICKING NOISE DURING OPERATION AND WOULD BIND UP WHEN IT GOT TO THE TOP. THE LEFT FRONT REGULATOR WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
MY CAR CURRENTLY HAS 225,000 MILES ON IT. 3 TIMES AT APPROXIMATELY 70,000, 140,000, AND 215,000 MILES, MY CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING. THE FIRST TIME WAS ON A MOUNTAIN ROAD GOING DOWNHILL AT 40MPH. THE SECOND TIME I HAD JUST MADE A RIGHT HAND TURN AT @ 20MPH TO GET ON THE FREEWAY, THE THIRD TIME I WAS GOING STRAIGHT DOWN A CITY STREET AT 10MPH. IN EACH CASE, THE CAR JUST STOPS WHILE DRIVING AND I LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR AND STEERING WHEEL. THE CAR CAN BE STARTED UP AFTER WITHOUT A PROBLEM. MY MECHANIC BELIEVES IT IS A COMPUTER ISSUE, OUTSIDE OF THAT, HE CAN'T COME UP WITH ANYTHING ELSE. NO ERROR GETS LOGGED ON THE COMPUTER SYSTEM IN THE CAR. THIS CAR HAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED OVER THE YEARS VERY WELL. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE I DRIVE A LOT OF FREEWAY MILES AND IF THIS OCCURS WHILE I AM IN TRAFFIC I AM SURE A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT WILL OCCUR. *TR

THE RED INTERIOR DASHBOARD LIGHTS TURN ON INITIALLY WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED BUT THEN TURN OFF, OCCASIONALLY TURNING BACK ON FOR A FEW SECONDS. WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE OFF THE ODOMETER, GAS GAUGE, AND ALL OTHER DASHBOARD GAUGES CANNOT BE SEEN IN DAYLIGHT OR AT NIGHT. I NOTICED THAT THIS STARTED OCCURRING AFTER I HAD THE CAR WASHED AND THE OIL CHANGED (HAD NOT PREVIOUSLY USED THIS GARAGE). IT APPEARS TO BE POSSIBLY A SENSOR PROBLEM. THE ONLY PROBLEMS THAT IT HAS CAUSED IS NOT KNOWING THE HOW FAST I AM DRIVING AND HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE. THE LIGHT WORKS THAT SHOWS THAT THE GAS IS CLOSE TO EMPTY. HAVE NOT TAKEN IT IN TO THE DEALER YET. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED WOBBLING. WHEN VEHICLE WAS PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR INSPECTION, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE AND BOTH REAR TIRES WERE FLAT. THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED THE TIRES HAD PRESSURE OF 12 PSI. A HAND PUMP WAS USED TO INFLATE ALL THREE TIRES. HOWEVER, AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE 30 MILES THE TIRES WERE FLAT AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REQUESTED THAT THE TIRES BE SENT BACK TO THEM FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE TIRE IS A PROXES TPT AND THE TIRE LINE IS P205/55R16. UPDATED 02/26/04. *JB
SMELL OF GASOLINE IN PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. TOOK VEHICLE TO A MECHAMIC, HE SAID, FUEL RAIL WAS LEAKING. DO NOT KNOW OPERATING FUEL PRESSURE, FINE SPRAY COULD CAUSE ENGINE FIRE, POSSIBLE AFTER THIS MANY MILES, METAL FATIGE,THIS COULD HAPPEN TO ALL VIBE'S MECHANIC HAS NOT GIVEN FULL EVALUATION OF TROUBLE.
