APPROX. 30 DAYS AGO ABOUT THE REAR AXLE PINION NUT ON MY 2010 RAM 1500 STATING THAT THE TRUCK WAS UNSAFE AND THAT THEY WERE CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY. CALLED LOCAL DEALER TO SCHEDULE APPT. TO HAVE FIXED AND DEALER STATED THAT THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE, WAITED ANOTHER WEEK AND CALLED THE CHRYSLER GROUP RECALL ASSISTANCE CENTER AND GOT THE SAME EXCUSE FROM THEM THAT THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO MOTIVATE THIS COMPANY TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES IN A TIMELY MANNER, NOT EVERYONE CAN PARK THEIR VEHICLE AND WAIT FOR THIS TO BE RESOLVED WHENEVER CHRYSLER GETS AROUND TO IT. HAVE READ OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEBSITE ABOUT REAR AXLE LOCK-UP AND OTHER ACCIDENTS WITH THE DRIVE SHAFTS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, HE HEARD A LOUD WHISTLING NOISE AND AS HE DECELERATED, THE REAR WHEELS SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE SKIDDED OFF THE ROADWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR AXLE PINION NUT BECAME LOOSE AND CAUSED THE AXLE TO SEIZE. AS A RESULT, THE ENTIRE SUSPENSION END OF THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V038000 (POWER TRAIN), IN WHICH THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED. THE DEALER ADVISED HOWEVER THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE RECALL SERVICE WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND THAT HE WOULD BE USING THE SAME DEFECTIVE PARTS WHEN REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 31,466.
I WAS NOTIFIED BY DODGE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE REAR PINION NUT COMING LOOSE. THAT DODGE WAS WORKING ON A SOLUTION. HERE IT IS 7/10/13 AND NO SOLUTION. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE FIRST. I THINK THE GOV. SHOULD SHUT THEM DOWN TILL A REMEDY IS FOUND IN ANY SAFETY RECALL. I RECEIVED AN EMAIL IN JUNE THAT DODGE WAS STILL WORKING ON IT. *TR
WAS JUST NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL FOR THE REAR AXLE PINION NUT PROBLEM AND WHEN I CALLED CHRYSLER VIA THEIR TOLL FREE NUMBER, I WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL NOTICE WAS MAILED ON 4/1/2013 EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT RECEIVE IT FOR 30 DAYS. WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THEY HAVE NO ESTIMATED DATE ON WHEN THE REPAIR PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE. SO WE ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE OUR UNSAFE VEHICLES SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER INITIAL RECALL BECAUSE CHRYSLER IS FAILING ON THE MANUFACTURE OF AND DELIVERY OF REPAIR PART. WHILE DRIVING 70MPH DOWN HWY HEARD A LOUD THUMP UNDER CAR, THEN A LOT OF BANGING UNDER TRUCK, REAR OF TRUCK JUMPED AND BOUNCED A LITTLE. THEN WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND GET OFF FREEWAY FROM THE FAST LANE HAD NO THROTTLE RESPONSE SO COST ACROSS FOUR LANES TO THE SHOULDER ONCE GOT TO SHOULDER I WENT TO HIT BREAKS BUT REAR END LOCKED UP BEFORE I COULD AND TRUCK CAME TO A SCREECHING HALT. GOT OUT OF TRUCK AND DRIVE SHAFT WAS ON THE GROUND HANGING FROM TRANSMISSION, THE REAR END SPLINE SHAFT WAS STICKING OUT OF REAR END BUT BENT REALLY BAD. THE REAR END FLANGE AND U BOLT WAS COMPLETELY GONE ALONG WITH ABOUT A FOOT OF THE DRIVE SHAFT. THE TRANSMISSION NOW GRINDS WHEN SHIFTIN IN TO GEAR AND PARK . MY EXHAUST IS ALL SMASHED UP FROM DRIVE SHAFT WHIPPING AROUND THE CHROME TIPS OUT OF THE BACK BUMPER ARE DROPPED ABOUT 1 INCH AND PUSHED OUT FROM BUMPER 2 INCHES. TO ME LOOKS LIKE REAR END LOCKED UP AND RIPPED THE DRIVE SHAFT IN TWO. *TR

STILL NO REMEDY PARTS AVAILABLE (ACCORDING TO MY DODGE DEALER) TO SATISFY A REAR AXLE PINION NUT SAFETY RECALL. I RECEIVED THE SAFETY RECALL NOTICE M34 VIA US MAIL IN OCTOBER 2012 WITH THE STATEMENT "CHRYSLER ANTICIPATES THE REMEDY PARTS WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE WITHIN THE 1ST QUARTER OF 2013." WELL, IT'S MAY 1ST AND NO ACTION. I'M CONCERNED THAT THIS DELAY COULD INCREASE THE LIKELIHOOD OF A PROBLEM ON MY REAR AXLE. I PURCHASED A 2010 DODGE RAM 1500(HEMI) FOR THE PURPOSE OF PULLING A TRAVEL TRAILER AFTER I RETIRED. APPROXIMATELY 4-5 MONTHS AGO I RECEIVED A "RECALL" DUE TO A PROBLEM IN ASSEMBLY WITH THE REAR AXLE PINION NUT BEING BUILT WITHOUT AN ADHESIVE PATCH ON THE PINION NUT THREADS. I AM NOW TOLD I CAN NOT PULL ANY TYPE OF TRAILER AND THAT IT MAY BE MANY MONTHS BEFORE CHRYSLER/DODGE WILL HAVE THE PARTS TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE STATES THAT CHRYSLER IS NOT CONCERNED WITH CORRECTING THIS PROBLEM IN A TIMELY FASHION. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND RECEIVED AN ANSWER THAT IT WILL BE MONTHS BEFORE THE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE, "IF THEN." DUE TO THIS PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE, MY RETIREMENT TRAVEL PLANS HAVE BEEN PUT ON HOLD, WAITING ON CHRYSLER/DODGE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE, WHICH I BOUGHT IN GOOD FAITH FROM A DEALER LOCALLY. THIS LACK OF CONCERN BY THE DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER/DODGE IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. IT IS BEYOND COMPREHENSION WHY IT SHOULD TAKE "MANY MONTHS" TO OBTAIN AN "ADHESIVE PATCH" TO CORRECT THEIR ERROR IN MANUFACTURING THIS VEHICLE. *TR
CHRYSLER SENT ME A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE N08/NHTSA 13V-038 IN APRIL OF 2013. THIS IS FOR TRUCKS WITH A 9.28" REAR AXLE IT STATES THAT THE PINION NUT MAY BE BUILT WITHOUT AN ADHESIVE PATCH ON THE PINION THREADS. THE LACK OF THIS ADHESIVE PATCH COULD ALLOW THE REAR AXLE PINION NUT TO LOOSEN AND/OR THE REAR DRIVESHAFT TO SEPARATE FROM THE REAR AXLE. A LOOSE PINION NUT COULD CAUSE THE REAR AXLE TO SEIZE AND A SEPARATED DRIVESHAFT COULD CAUSE A LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER. EITHER SITUATION COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER STATES THAT CHRYSLER HAS NOT INFORMED THEM OF THE FIX NOT SUPPLIED THE PARTS. THEY ALSO STATED THAT CHRYSLER WOULD CONTACT ME WHEN THE FIGURED OUT WHAT TO DO. I WAITED A WHILE AND CALLED CHRYSLER IN MAY AND THEY HAD ME BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR AN INSPECTION AT THE DEALER. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT EVERYTHING LOOKED TIGHT AT THIS POINT TO WAIT FOR CHRYSLER TO COME UP WITH THE FIX AND CONTACT ME. TO DATE THEY HAVE NOT CONTACTED ME. *TR

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

NOW IN LATE MARCH 2013 (OUT OF WARRANTY-MILEAGE), THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL HAS STARTED MAKING A LOUD WHINING NOISE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS DONE A PRELIMINARY DIAGNOSIS OF BEARING FAILURE AND SUGGESTED THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL BE REBUILT. I HAVE FOLLOWED ALL PM'S AND FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL IS FAILING AT 111,000 MILES. OF COURSE THE PARTS FOR RECALL ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND NEITHER CHRYSLER OR THE DEALERSHIP WILL RECOGNIZE THE SUBSEQUENT FAILURES OF THE RECALLED REAR AXLE PINION NUT FAILING. I NEED MY VEHICLE FOR WORK RELATED PURPOSES AND AM TERRIFIED OF DRIVING MY VEHICLE. CHRYSLER AND THEIR DODGE DEALERSHIPS NEED TO BE BETTER PREPARED FOR THIS RECALL, RECOGNIZE THAT THE REAR AXLE PINION NUT FAILING CAN/WILL CAUSE SUBSEQUENT FAILURES IN A REAR DIFFERENTIAL, AND PROVIDE ADEQUATE REPAIRS TO MITIGATE ANY FUTURE ISSUES WITH THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. *TR

AFTER HAND WASHING MY TRUCK, I NOTICES SIGNIFICANT DEFECT IN THE CHROME PARTS ON THE TRUCK. MOST OF THE CHROME IS COVERED IN CORROSION AND DISCOLORATION. THIS PROBLEM WAS FIRST NOTED WHEN THE TRUCK WAS ONE YEAR OLD BUT WAS VERY MINOR. THE DEFECTS HAVE SPREAD AND BECOME A MAJOR ISSUE ON THE BUMPERS, WHEELS, STEPS, AND TRIM. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND MET WITH THE REGIONAL CHRYSLER REP WHO INFORMED ME THAT THIS WOULD NOT BE COVERED. THEY TOOK THE STANCE THAT THE DAMAGE WAS DUE TO SOMETHING PICKED UP ON THE ROAD. THE 2010 DODGE RAM 1500 HAS SUSPENSION PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT BALL JOINTS BEING TOO SMALL. THIS LEADS TO MY TRUCK SKIPPING ON THE HIGHWAY AND ANY BUMPY ROADS AND HAS CAUSED ME MANY, MANY TIMES TO SUDDENLY LOOSE CONTROL. ON BUMPY DIRT ROADS IT CAN HAPPEN AT 35-45 MPH. ON THE HIGHWAY IT IS VERY BAD BETWEEN 55-60 MPH IF YOU HIT ANY BUMP OR EVEN IN A TIGHT CURVE. THIS TRUCK IS HIGHLY UNSTABLE. WHEN PULLING A BOAT WHERE LESS WEIGHT IS ON THE FRONT WHEELS, IT MULTIPLIES THE PROBLEM. I AM FORCED TO NEVER GO FASTER THAN 50MPH ON ANY CURVES THAT ARE REMOTELY SHARP. THE SECOND PROBLEM IS NOT A ACTIVE SAFETY PROBLEM BUT IS A HORRIBLE PROBLEM FOR EMISSION. MY TRUCK HAS THE INFAMOUS HEMI TICK. THIS IS CAUSED BY FAULTY MANIFOLD BOLTS THAT EITHER BACK OFF, RUST OFF, OR BREAK OFF LEAVING GAPS BETWEEN THE HEAD AND THE MANIFOLD.
