Driving to work and heard metallic grinding noise. Pulled over to see front of gas tank almost on the ground. Upon inspection strap broke through the bracket on frame. It is rotted. Very dangerous. Why is in not recalled.
Electronic power steering suddenly went out while driving at a gas station.
The front fuel tank strap pull out of its t slot due to corrosion. There is a recall for 2010- 2012 but not 2013. It is the exact same problem!
My side boxes do not open with key button and do not unlock with button on key and my bolts broke on exhaust manifold on drivers side and passenger side 4 bolts total
The contact owns a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while reversing in the driveway, the steering wheel locked. The steering wheel warning light was illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle back into the garage. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle; however, the steering wheel remained locked. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic power steering had failed. The dealer informed the contact that the power steering unit number of his vehicle did not match the 15 parts numbers in the specifications of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19E077000 (Steering); therefore, his vehicle could not be repaired under the recall. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact that the parts for the repair were not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The contact was awaiting a call back from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000. As the original owners of the RAM 2013 with a good service record, the owners requested a VOLUNTARY RECALL / WARRANTY REPAIR (CRYSLER CASE #XXX) due to SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS as the EPS failure is a KNOWN ISSUE on RAM models between years 2013-2019. Chrysler Corporation Supervisor, Kelly, refused to repair or replace the EPS unit as a recall item because the specific part number was not on the recall list of 15 other part numbers. DAVID TAYLOR CRYSLER DODGE Dealer of Benton KY - Daniel Gardener GM (270-527-8633) provided a loaner vehicle and was able to finally replace the EPS gear after several weeks delay due to part availability, at the "decreased" cost of $400.00 to the owners. Upon picking up the repaired RAM it was noted that another RAM was brought in with the same EPS issue. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).”
2013 Dodge Ram 1500 big horn 2wd 5.7 v8 160000 rebuild valves , rocker arms, push rods ,cam, gaskets, and lifters all damaged bad lifters ate the cam destroyed everything. About 5thousand dollars for the job . Please help seen this happening to other trucks and cars
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The power steering system failed, as indicated by the locking up of the steering wheel and the power steering light that illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle and its malfunctioned component are available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? While I was pulling up to a gas pump, the sudden locking up of the steering wheel prevented me from controlling the vehicle's direction. I almost drove straight into the gas pump, which could have caused a serious accident and posed a substantial risk to my safety and the safety of others around me. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, I have taken the vehicle to multiple shops. All have confirmed the issue with the power steering. They have also noted that the necessary parts to fix the problem are on back order. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? While the backstory doesn't specify if the vehicle was inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others, based on the information given, you can answer: No, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others, but it has been examined by several independent service centers. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, the power steering light popped up on the dashboard when the issue occurred. There was no prior indication or warning before this sudden malfunction.
The contact owned a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at 60-65 MPH on the highway, he crashed head-on into a culvert. The driver side air bag failed to deploy, and the front driver’s side seat belt failed to retract. A police report was filed. The ambulance arrived on scene and transported the driver to the hospital where he suffered from a chipped and fractured vertebrae. The driver was the only occupant at the time of the failure. The vehicle was deemed totaled. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot where the insurance company was retrieving the vehicle from. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 108,000.
The exhaust manifold bolts failed a second time, causing and exhaust smell and leak into the cab of the truck. Took it to a dealership who repaired the passenger side only, and now driver side needs repaired. Spoke with RAM only to be told that it is a Known issue but there is no recall, or plan to issue a recall to remedy the issue. There were no warnings by the truck.
Power steering failed while driving.
The exhaust manifolds break on every truck. Leak exhaust gas. Tech told me every single truck has this problem how is it not a recall yet
The Electric Power Steering rack and pinion failed. The old part is not available for inspection now, it was scrapped after I order the new one and replaced it. I was driving home, fortunately near my house, at low speed when the steering became almost locked. I was alone in my car fortunately, but people around and other cars realized I got out of my way. Fortunately I was able to stop the car, and then try to turn the wheel (almost impossible) to get the car out of the way. The problem was confirmed by a technician using a scanner, visual inspection and other test. The old component was not inspected by any organization. There were no previous warnings to this situation, or other signs the could indicate this will happen. I noticed a recent investigation for this kind of damage in the RAM 1500, so I am writing to support in case there is a wrong doing by anyone.
The truck just shut off, couldn’t get it started or move it out of traffic. I was out of state and 560 miles from home. No warning lights, no issues just cut off!
The power steering stopped completely could not steer went shop they installed a new one for 3000. This this is the same issue that you are investigating on ram power steering 2013 2016
ABs brake system malfunction lights stays on cruise control not working some days the break lights don't come on the cruise control starts back working
The vehicle developed a ticking noise that was diagnosed by a certified mechanic as being a defective cam and lifter assembly. The engine was at risk of locking up and if not corrected, could have happened on any roadway. The only corrective action for this problem was to replace the engine. I consulted several mechanics in my area and all of them refused to simply rebuild the head. Instead, they all insisted that the engine be replaced. I did so at the cost of $9000. This needs to become a recall.
1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Power steering light error was intermittently coming on when starting the truck making steering inoperable starting shortly after last oil change that was performed West Palm Ram Dealership on 11/23/21(mileage at oil change was 67157). The power steering light error at times went away if I started the trunk again right away. Other times, I had to wait hours in-between the error occurring to attempt to drive the truck again where power steering would work. There was on consistency to this pattern. You may insect the truck at anytime. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? My safety was at risk in that the truck steering was inoperable on startup anywhere at any time. There was the possibility that the power steering would go out while driving with the inability to steer the truck. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Truck was taken to Napleton Ram Dealership on 1/3/22(mileage 67607) where I stated that the power steering failure matches recall "Equipment Safety RecallVB9/NHTSA 19E-077/Electric Power Steering Gear". Dealership stated my truck was not under any recall for the eventual repair that was performed. Dealership performed repair on 1/10/22 and below is right off the invoice: Power Steering Rack SR08 Power Steering Rack 1180 CPC4 $505.99 1 68453598AA Gear-rack and Pinion $2286.00 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Napleton Ram Dealership 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Power steering light error message that first started on 11/23/21 Note: Asked dealership for parts back, but core return was involved. They took pics of parts with serial numbers instead that I will submit these.

The power steering went out without any knowledge and all of a sudden the light came on the same time the power steering went out and almost slammed head on first into oncoming traffic but was able to recover the vehicle without any damage they say there is a recall for the power steering online for this electronic power steering rack and pinion device so when I brought it into the dealership to have it looked at they told me there was no recall on this and gave me an estimate of over $3000 to fix the rack and pinion electronic steering device and the company I brought it to was the same place I bought it from and I still owe on this vehicle it has 56,000 miles on it now but I bought it used at 30,000 miles I’ve only put 26,000 miles on this vehicle in six years I bought this vehicle from Dayton Andrews Dodge in St. Petersburg Florida and they were unwilling to help me except for charge me an ungodly amount which I cannot afford so now I have a truck that I’m paying for and I still owe $7000 on it so what can I do can you help with getting this done with the recall that’s online. Please I’m a single dad, and my children were in the car to when this happened so it definitely was a scare for everyone. This is our only means of transportation.
5.7L Engine failed due to lifter roller bearing disintegrating and filling the engine with debris. This seems to have been a known issue anf has been going on for a long time. This is a danger to passengers when engine fails. Also, cost me $8000 dollars to have a remanufactured engine installed. I don't know how manufactures can get away with this without any kind of compensation to the injured parties.
The contact owns a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 8 MPH and making a right turn, the contact heard a loud snapping sound coming from the passenger’s side of the vehicle. The contact steered the vehicle into a parking lot and became aware that the passenger’s side tire was flat. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel seized intermittently. The power steering warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to restart the vehicle to correct the failure. The dealer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact there was no recall associated with the VIN. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact the vehicle was out of warranty and to take the vehicle to a dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 64,100.
Noticed tick noise coming from my HEMI engine upon starting. Took to mechanic who verified there are multiple broken bolts on both sidesof exhaust manifolds creating dangerous exhaust conditions. Reading that there have been multiple complaints on the Ram 1500 Hemi models in this time frame for same complaint. Only have 85K miles on this 2013 model., A recall should be considered and this should be covered cost by manufacturer.
While driving at normal speed power steering light came on and all the sudden power steering was lost. Has happened multiple times within the last two weeks and at different speeds. Scary situation when driving down the road because the wheel actually jerks when it loses power.
Exhaust manifold leak due to both rear studs breaking on each side of the engine. This is my 3rd dodge ram with the 5.7 liter engine that has had this problem. The other vehicle years were a 2003 Ram 2500 and a 2014 Ram 1500. With as many complaints about this problem, I am surprised there hasn't been a fix and a recall. So far, I am 3 trucks each with the same issue. I would think that two exhaust manifolds leaking in the engine compartment would pose as a safety issue by breathing the fumes sucked into the cab.
The contact owned a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated that he was hit head-on by another vehicle. The contact stated that although the airbag warning lights illuminated the instrument panel; however, the airbags failed to deploy. The contact was taken to the hospital where he was treated for the soreness to his back. The other driver was able to walk away from the accident and appeared to not be injured. A police report was filed at the scene (DIV421070591). Due to the accident, the vehicle was towed to an independent tow yard and was deemed a total loss. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there was a recall on the vehicle(recall unknown); however, he was informed that the recall was not related to the airbag failure. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was approximately 242,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, while attempting to make a turn the steering wheel seized. The electric power steering was later restored independently. The dealer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19E077000 (Steering). The failure mileage was 228,064.
While driving under normal conditions steering warning indicator comes on and results in total loss of power steering assist. Vehicle is VERY difficult to steer and requires immediate stopping/pull over. Power steering will return after vehicle is shut off for approximately 5 minutes and restarted. The loss of power steering has happened at various speeds, from 5mph to 65mph and while turning, as well as driving straight ahead. It happened one time directly at start up, but seems to normally occur after 10-15 minutes of driving. My local mechanic stated it was a steering control module, but have not taken vehicle to dealer as of yet to confirm. The vehicle has not been inspected by other agenices. No other warning indicators come on prior to this fault, there is no repeatable condition that seems to be present before this occurs, other than normal driving.
The contact owns a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel made abnormal noises while turning and was stiff. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with electric power steering failure. The steering rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to file a complaint with NHTSA. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19E077000 (Equipment) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, the HVAC system failed to defrost the windows. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where it was not diagnosed. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V177000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000.
Hello, I'm filing a complaint against the Dothan, AL Ram dealership due to recalls that were never performed. I bought the truck on 7/12/2021 from a third party. I noticed this particular Ram had 12 recalls so I took it in to the Dothan, AL Dodge dealership to have them repaired. They had the truck for 2 weeks and nothing was repaired. Nothing at all. I lost 2 back pack blowers because of the faulty tailgate latch. I had to take the tailgate from my 02 Ram off and put it on the 2013. That's just one incident, there are quite a few and I've spent countless amount of money and time fixing this truck because of the recalls that were never performed. I need an Inspector to see this, it's ridiculous. When I took the truck in for the recalls it had 101,000 miles, a cold air intake, and different features. When I got the truck back it had 114000 miles, the cold air intake was gone, the Vin plate was replaced with a sticker and it had different features. The GM convinced me I was hallucinating. I'm a disabled adult and was taken for a fool and discriminated against. I am going to have to find a lawyer.
The contact owns a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the service power steering message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the vehicle was difficult to steer while driving. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the steering rack was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was given a case number [XXX]. The failure mileage was 54,464. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).”
I was driving down the road on 222 near Lancaster pennsylvania when without any warning lights or noise or any form of warning my rear differential locked up while I was driving. It snapped my drivshaft off the flange that attaches it to the differential.
Front end impact during a traffic collision failed to actuate the airbags resulting in a neck/upper back injury. The collision occurred at approx. 35-40mph into another car (broadside collision).
The contact owns a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle crashed into the rear of the a second vehicle causing severe damage to the front end. During the crash the air bag did not deploy. The driver sustained a fractured right foot and bruises the arms and torso which required medical treatment. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 70,000.
POWER STEERING WENT OUT INSTANTLY WHILE STOPPED PREPARING TO ENTER A CAR WASH. MADE IT THROUGH THE CAR WASH, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, THEN BACK ON, WOW! POWER STEERING STARTED WORKING PERFECTLY AGAIN. AFTER A MILE OR SO POWER STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN. IT APPEARS TO BE SOME SORT OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONIC STEERING ASSIST. AFTER RESEARCHING I DISCOVERED THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH DODGE RAM TRUCKS AS FAR BACK AS 2012.
WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS IN HOUSTON AND ABOUT TO TURN INTO AN INTERSECTION, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT IMMEDIATELY AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE STEERING BECAME EXTREMELY STIFF AND CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE REQUIRED MUCH MORE EFFORT THAN TYPICAL MANUAL STEERING. I AM A MALE WITH GOOD ARM STRENGTH; HAD MY WIFE BEEN DRIVING THERE IS NO DOUBT SHE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL. I DID NOT CRASH, BUT PULLED OVER WHILE NARROWLY MISSING OTHER VEHICLES AND A PEDESTRIAN. A WARNING MESSAGE ON MY DASH SAID SOMETHING LIKE 'POWER STEERING SERVICE REQUIRED'. TEXAN DODGE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE EPS MODULE HAD FAILED, AND THE REPAIR WAS ESTIMATED AT $3,100. PREVIOUS SAFETY RECALL S19 BY RAM COVERED THIS REPAIR ON A SMALL NUMBER OF PICKUPS FROM 2015-2016 MODEL YEARS. HOWEVER, BASED ON AN INTERNET SEARCH IT IS ABUNDANTLY APPARENT THAT THIS MALFUNCTION HAS OCCURRED IN MANY RAM PICKUPS FROM 2013 FORWARD. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS MALFUNCTION THAT MAY HAVE ALREADY RESULTED IN INJURIES OR DEATHS.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 RAM 1500 TRUCK WHEN THE EPS ( ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING) WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO TURN LEFT OR RIGHT IT WANTED TO STAY STRAIGHT WHILE A SERVICE POWER STEERING POPPED UP ON THE DASH COMPUTER
BEEN EXPERIENCING A 'SERVICE AIRBAG SYSTEM' ACROSS MY INFO SCREEN ALONG WITH AN ANNOYING TONE. IT HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING, PARKED, AS WELL AS ALL FORWARD AND REVERSE GEARS. TODAY WAS THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY I HAD TO GET THE TRUCK INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. FOUND THAT THE AIRBAG IN THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT HAS A FAULTY CIRCUIT. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE & SHOULD BE REPAIRED BY THE MANUFACTURER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOSS POWER STEERING ASSIST AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER NOR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RELATED THE ISSUE TO AN UNKNOWN RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,200.
DRIVING HOME YESTERDAY AFTER A SHORT 1 HOUR DRIVE. AS I PULLED INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO MAKE THE LAST FEW TURNS TO GET HOME AND GET THE TRUCK INTO THE DRIVEWAY. AFTER RESEARCHING I DISCOVERED THAT THIS VEHICLE (2013 RAM 1500 ) HAS THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE ON YOUR PAGE AND FORUMS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. CHRYSLER RECALLED 2015-2016 VEHICLES WITH THE SAME SYSTEM BUT WON'T RECALL THE VEHICLE THE PART FIRST CAME OUT IN. THIS MORNING I GOT UP AND THE STEERING WAS FINE, THEN AN HOUR LATER IT WASN'T WORKING AGAIN. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT IT DIDN'T GO OUT ON MY WAY HOME YESTERDAY WHILE ON THE NARROW SHAND'S BRIDGE IN GREEN COVE SPRINGS, FLORIDA AS ANY SLIGHT SWERVING ON THAT BRIDGE WOULD PROBABLY LEAD TO A HEAD ON COLLISION SINCE IT IS SO NARROW AND HAS HIGHWAY SPEEDS. MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 68,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN BABIED SINCE NEW. THE DEALER WANTS $3500 TO REPLACE THE PART. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE RECALLED SINCE ANY SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING IN A BIG TRUCK IS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAD NO WARNING SIGNS THAT THERE WAS ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY TRUCK BEFORE THE LOSS OF STEERING. JUST MADE A TURN AND IT WAS GONE. HAD THIS BEEN MY GIRLFRIEND DRIVING SHE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE RUN INTO THE NEIGHBORS YARD OR CARS OR KIDS ON THE CORNER WHERE I MADE THE TURN BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY SHE WAS GONNA TURN THAT WHEEL AFTER THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH WILL SHOW TONS OF COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM. THE PART IS THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MODULE A PICTURE OF THE PART/ AND OR SERIAL NUMBER IS ATTACHED
BOTH MANIFOLDS ARE LEAKING
MY VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING ON A CITY STREET. I MADE A RIGHT HAND TURN AND JUST AS I WAS 1/4 OF THE WAY THROUGH THE TURN THE POWER STEERING FAILED COMPLETELY. WE NARROWLY AVOIDED HITTING A CONCRETE LIGHT POLE AND ANOTHER VEHICLE. WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A FULL STOP AND PARKED THE VEHICLE. UPON RESTARTING THE VEHICLE...THE STEERING WAS WORKING AGAIN. WE ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE HOME AND WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN THE STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN. WE PARKED THE VEHICLE AND CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER WHO SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR US. VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALER BEING REPAIRED FOR $3200. SAME MAKE AND MODEL HAS A RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE MULTIPLE YEARS. MANUFACTURER SAYS THEY CAN NOT HELP WHATSOEVER.
Exhaust manifold warped and bolts broke, causing risk of CO^2 contamination in passenger compartment. The above listed issue is recognized as a "Known Issue" on the FCA's Mopar Recall Check tool. Multiple forums document ongoing recurrences with with certain years of the Ram 1500, https://www.ramforum.com/threads/recall-no-more-5-7l-exhaust-manifold-bolts.117041/ The problem has been inspected, diagnosed and acknowledged by Mopar RAM Service Technicians at Charlie's Dodge in Maumee, Ohio. Audible knocking sound from engine compartment was noticeable, with zero warning indicators to alert to a problem. Previous technicians pacified me with statements that indicated that the knocking noise was a typical RAM Truck sound that goes away after the motor warms up. (But it never goes away)
LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING ( EPS ISSUE). THIS HAPPENED WHILE MAKING A TURN AND DROVE OFF THE ROAD. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, THE DODGE DEALER TELLS ME MINE DOESN'T FALL UNDER THIS RECALL. ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILURE. I UNDERSTAND 8 PEOPLE HAVE DIED BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE, THANK GOD I WASN'T # 9. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE FOR 2013 - 2019. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD APPLY TO ALL OF THEM.
MY POWER STEERING MOMENTARILY LOCKED UP YESTERDAY AND THEN AGAIN TODAY DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS TURNING THE WHEEL SHARPLY. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING PUMP, BELT, OR FLUID UNTIL I LOOKED INTO IT AND FOUND IT WAS ELECTRONIC AND THERE HAS BEEN SIMILAR ISSUES WITH OTHER VEHICLES OF THE SAME MAKE AND THERE WERE SAFETY RECALLS FOR OTHER RAM TRUCKS WITH DIFFERENT EPS PART NUMBERS. I THOUGHT FOR SURE MINE WOULD BE ON THE LIST BUT WAS NOT.
TRUCK AIR SUSPENSION CONSISTENTLY FAILS DROPPING TO THE FRAME BUMP STOPS ON DRIVES (MOVING) WHEN AERO MODE IS AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGED. TRUCK DOES NOT RECOVER TO NORMAL RIDE HEIGHT AND PREVENTS PROPER HANDLING OF THE VEHICLE (IN MOTION). LONG DRIVES IN AERO MODE (ABOVE 60 MPH) CAUSES THE SYSTEM TO FAIL AND TRUCK BODY DROPS SHORTLY AFTER, OR FAILS COMPLETELY. TRUCK CANNOT HANDLE THE LOWERING MODES WITHOUT FAILING (AERO OR ENTRY EXIT). TRUCK WILL ALSO LOWER ITSELF WITHOUT WARNING (STATIONARY). WAS WASHING (STATIONARY) TRUCK AND CLEANING WHEEL WELL WHEN REAR OF TRUCK STARTED TO DROP. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION, ANYONE CHANGING A TIRE OR WORKING UNDER THEIR TRUCK COULD GET CAUGHT OR CRUSHED WHEN SUSPENSION FAILS OR DROPS WITHOUT WARNING. DRIVING WHEN SUSPENSION FAILS COULD CAUSE THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL WHEN TRUCK COLLAPSES TO FRAME (NO SUSPENSION). THIS CAUSES THE TRUCK TO VIOLENTLY HOP OFF THE PAYMENT (TIRES LOSING CONTACT WITH ROAD) EVEN WITH THE SLIGHTEST BUMP IN THE ROAD. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE TRUCK AND IT'S BEEN TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES IN THE LAST 5 MONTHS. I'VE REPLACED THE AIR COMPRESSOR, VALUE BLOCK (WHERE AIR SUSPENSION LINES INTERSECT) AND AIR LINES. DIDN'T FIX THE ISSUE. I'VE COMMUNICATED THIS ISSUE TO CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE RAM. NO RESPONSE YET. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND RAM NEEDS TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM OR PROVIDE AND EFFECTIVE RESOLUTION \ FIX. PLEASE HELP. SUSPENSION PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN ONGOING FOR SIX MONTHS. 03/15 IS THE LATEST OCCURRENCE.
The contact owns a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer for an oil change and the mechanic was made aware of the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle was driven with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, he began to hear an abnormal sound. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the engine to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
TURNED MY TRUCK ON AT APPROX 45 DEGREES F. RECEIVED A "POWER STEERING WARNING" MESSAGE AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING. I TURNED THE TRUCK OFF AND BACK ON AND NO WARNING LIGHT CAME UP AND POWER STEERING RETURNED. IT HAPPENED LATER THAT MORNING AS WELL. I LET THE TRUCK SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND AGAIN THE WARNING WENT AWAY AND POWER STEERING RETURNED. I CAUTIOUSLY DROVE THE TRUCK HOME AND HAVE NOT MOVED IT. I BELIEVE THIS IS RELATED TO A PRIOR RECALL OR SIMILAR ONE FOR THE EPS SYSTEM. I HAVE NO IDEA WHETHER THIS WILL GO OUT WHILE I'M DRIVING THE VEHICLE SO I'M NOT TAKING MY CHANCES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STATIONARY, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. AFTER RESTARTING VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 5 TIMES THE STEERING WHEEL RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATIONS. THE CONTACT STATED SERVICE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19E077000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 67,000.
