Air suspension system fails intermittently. If it fails while driving, the vehicle has virtually no suspension and is unsafe to handle. It has failed at highway speeds, and rapidly deflated. When hitting bumps or anything in the road that is normally easily traversed, the vehicle will bounce and or skid, sometimes uncontrollably. The vehicle has been at the dealer multiple times for this issue, and it has not been solved. Dealer claims they can't find a problem due to their diagnostics not showing a fault, but the vehicle has failed right in front of the service manager! Currently they have had the vehicle for going on three (3) weeks, and the failure has not been fixed. When the system fails, there are multiple alerts present in the vehicle information center on the dash, but sometimes these do not appear until sometime AFTER the failure, and at highway speeds this does not help. My truck is absolutely available for inspection. A quick internet search reveals this is a very common issue, well known to Chrysler. Dealers do not know how to fix it, and refuse to replace parts unless they test as failed, which these generally do not. This is a dangerous situation, and it is known. Something should be done about it.
While in the process of unhitching my camping trailer, I put the truck in reverse to gently center the tow ball under the hitch when the vehicle suddenly accelerated at high RPMs and lurched backward. I braked but the engine continued racing at high speed. Braking was completely ineffective as the tires continued "burning rubber" on the pavement. My wife was helping me guide the vehicle when this occurred. The only thing that prevented an accident and serious injury to my wife and me was the trailer. The trailer's wheels were still chocked, but the sudden, forceful acceleration dislodged the jack stand and pushed the trailer back approximately 4 to 5 inches. The acceleration stopped on its own after approximately 30 seconds. This was a terrifying experience that had the potential for a tragic outcome. This problem has not been yet been diagnosed by a dealer or service center, as it just occurred a few hours ago. There were no warning lamps or any other symptoms preceding it.
Driving when the power steering quit working. Extremely hard to steer , luckily I was in a low traffic area. Could have been catastrophic. A warning lamp that looked like a steering wheel and exclamation point appeared after the fact. Very dangerous and a hazard
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, a grinding and rubbing sound was present coming from the rear of the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was unknown.
The front strap that holds the fuel tank broke free from the bracket that secures it. The gas tank dropped down and could have fallen off. After inspection the bracket was found to be rusted to the point that it could no longer hold the "T" end of the gas tank strap. Once one side of the strap broke free the hanging strap was grinding against the drive shaft. That was the only sign that there was a problem. This would certainly be an ignition source. There was a recall for this same problem, but it only included Ram pickups to 2011.
TAILGATE OPENS WHILE DRIVING THEN WILL NOT LATCH SHUT
I believe the fuel sensor problem I am having is a design failure by RAM and should be resolved due to a recall as a potential safety hazard. My fuel sensor fails which in turn, drops my fuel gauge to empty. Thus, I cannot tell how much fuel is left in the tank. This also engages the check engine light which does not allow the engine to go into ECO mode. There are at least two issues in play here. The first, as previously mentioned, I have not idea how much gas I have left. Since I drive on the highway to work every week day, this is a huge safety issue as I could run out of gas on the middle of the highway. This is not only a danger to myself, but other motorists as well. The second issue being the disengaging of ECO mode. This leads to higher gas consumption, thus lower gas mileage which would refute the state gas mileage that RAM claims for the truck. This leads to burning more gas, which leads to an empty tank (see above for safety reasons of an empty gas tank). I have searched online and there are hundreds of other people experiencing the same problem. If you want to prevent the deaths of hundreds of people, you will issue a recall. Your decision on this directly affects the lives of hundreds, if not thousands, of motorists and I look forward to hearing your decision on this.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal while coming to a stop, the rear wheels locked up. The ABS, traction control, parking brake, and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where the engine was replaced, and the contact was informed that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was diagnosed and repaired out-of-pocket. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
I have a faulty fuel level sensor on my 2014 Ram 1500. I went to my nearest dealer and they informed me that it was a common issue with Ram trucks. It was enough of an issue that they were aware but not enough for Ram to recall. To repair this sensor would cost between $700-$900. Please recall this already. It stinks to gauge how much fuel I have left based on how many miles I drove.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (engine) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Fuel will not go in tank and splashes back. Fuel pump continues to shut off and cannot safely fill gas tank.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? my suspension and also my engine are the first problems that i have noticed while driving this vehicle. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? When I drive I am scared to go even the speed limit of 30mph because my suspension makes my car bump aggressively and also there is a loud ticking noise I notice under the hood I have looked up reviews of this vehicle and seen that others have similar complaints for the dodge ram 2014 1500. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?] I took it into palmens dodge dealership and they didn't want to diagnose the vehicle unless the took the engine apart though they said it was better off replacing just by hearing the noise. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not as far as I'm aware Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? the problem started towards the beginning of the new year
The contact's husband owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the fuel level warning light would intermittently illuminate on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where the mechanic informed her that the fuel tank strap had rusted and needed to be replaced. While driving 25 MPH, the fuel gauge “sensor off” message was displayed on the instrument panel and the fuel gauge began fluctuating from Empty to Full. The independent mechanic informed her that there was an unstated recall on the vehicle and referred her to a dealer. The dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure and both informed her that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
Airbag suspension fails when the compressor fails causing a fuse to blow and loose all air ride suspension. The ride leaves you feeling terribly unsafe hoping you can make it home in one piece. Its all over the web about this issue. Canada has a class action lawsuit filed. There are service bulletins but we need a recall with a permanent fix. It costs over 3000 with no guarantees to be fixed if you live in cold weather. internet information...........PLEASE READ............ If the outside temperature dips below freezing, there's a good chance Ram's air suspension will stop working. That's a big deal for people who live in places that have, oh what's it called ... WINTER. When the air suspension stops working, it doesn't fail gracefully. It delegates the task of absorbing bumps and keeping your vehicle safely upright to four deflated rubber bags. And as you might imagine the ride quality sucks. That can also affect steering control and make the entire experience miserable. Owners will stop using their very expensive trucks when it gets too cold outside because the alternative is to feel drunk or queezy after the ride.
Vehicle began experiencing electrical issues upon ABS/HCU unit failure. While initially intermittent, which allowed continued usage of the vehicle, additional components such as cruise control, trailer braking, etc., began to malfunction. Warning lights would toggle on and off, and truck began to have no-start problems with C0020 ABS codes and UO140 codes being thrown. Truck went to two Ram dealerships for inspection and neither could replicate any issues, but they were able to see the warning lights and code history. After being advised to first replace TIPM, battery, and starter, my truck has now completely died in my driveway. When I attempt to start, the check engine light comes on (in addition to ABS, trailer brake, traction control, etc.) and flashes between 3-10 times. I've now been told by dealer that the problem is actually in the ABS module and HCU, which due to the known issues with these parts may have caused damage to all of these other components, leading to the fault in the canbus system. This has been ongoing for nearly two years, which is ridiculous for the money spent on this vehicle. I've been advised by other Ram truck owners dealing with this type of situation to file a report in efforts to aid the ongoing investigation. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any further help, or alternatively if there is a resolution to this matter. Thank you and kind regards.
Airbags did not deploy whatsoever. Truck is totalled so no repairs have been made. Was Towed to our house. It has not been inspected by any dealer, only police on scene. It is available any time for inspection. I also have photos.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that upon approaching a right-hand curve at 35 MPH, the steering wheel locked up as the power steering warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated that he was forced to slam on the brakes to avoid oncoming traffic that was approaching. Due to the failure, the contact had a friend tow the vehicle to his home. The contact stated that upon the start of the vehicle, the failure persisted and the steering wheel would not turn as needed. The dealer nor the manufacturer have yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 107,767.
Air suspension failed while going 78mph, causing the vehicle to lower. With the vehicle lowered, the slightest bump can cause loss of control. I hit a small rise (present after a bridge) and the vehicle slid sideways. Luckily there were no other vehicles nearby and I was able to pull over to the side of the road (mainly due to the fact that I am a very experienced driver). This issue is known by Dodge and a simple Google search shows thousands of complaints about it. These issue could have eaisly caused an accident, injury or death.
Power steering is intermittent. Works fine in heat and doesn’t work in cold weather until vehicle has been running for at least 30min. After warm up I turn the vehicle off then back on and it works again. Dealership quoted me a total of $3300 to replace the rack and pinion.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact noticed that the vehicle was sitting on the frame. The contact stated that whenever the weather was cold while driving, the vehicle would bounce while the air suspension defect warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air compressor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired, and the failure would recur whenever the weather was cold. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Electric power steering went out while driving, it is very difficult to turn, this causes a increased chance of a accident as it is difficult to maneuver quickly if necessary to avoid an accident.
The contact's husband owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at 35 MPH, a loud thumping noise and vibration was coming from the front passenger’s side wheel well. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with needing the front differential, Part Number: (68257421AG) to be replaced; however, the mechanic stated that the part was on national backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 207,000.
I own a 2014 Ram 1500. The ABS module stopped working in it sometime in 2021. The new part was on backorder with no estimated delivery date. At the time I put a used ABS module in it and it lasted about a year before it went out again. This is a known problem that Ram is having with their ABS systems on several different models. The ABS module part # 68228991AC has since been discontinued by Ram. I also own a 2018 2500 Ram that had the same issue. From what I have read online the NHSTA is investigating that year and model truck and a class action lawsuit has been filed out of California. The NHSTA needs to broaden their investigation into other years makes and models of Ram trucks. It is unfair that Ram is placing their customers lives in jeopardy instead of doing the right thing and recalling these defective vehicles.
Unable to remove key.
Electronic Power Steering (EPS) went out while driving truck, could not steer truck, had to pull off side of the road while driving. Very dangerous. Turned off truck and restarted been working since. Had the whole family with me in the truck.
ALL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY DURING MAJOR COLLISION! FAULTY AIRBAGS I was driving in the dark on Tuesday evening 11-16-2021 in the 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 truck. At around 6:00pm I was going through a right hand corner in a mountain area that had free range cattle. Over the mountains heading back home the day turned to night. Coming around a right sweepingcorner going around 45-48 mph out of nowhere the unthinkable happened…. A familiar face suddenly appeared in the dark. A cow, rather a huge bull in the middle of the highway! It all happened so fast… Head on collision My reaction was an evasive maneuver steering wheel crank left. If I had not reacted like stated above, crash should have killed me. This move I believe is what saved my life because it offset the contact more to the passenger side. He hit head on yes but now glanced off to my right which kept the rear of the truck from coming around. His massive weight saved me from rolling… The damage to front and passenger side is major The air bags should have deployed . They did not. My insurance confirmed in claim that the air bags did not deploy I filed with them at the time of the accident. The Deputy Sheriff inspected the vehicle and also noted in the police report that the airbags did not deploy. There were no warning lights that indicated any problems at all.
The Uconnect system!!! The Uconnect system crashed after Ram sent a over-the-air update which had a glitch in it. The whole stereo system which includes, Air Conditioning Heating, defrost ,vent direction and temperature adjustment . If you have the app it can control remote start locking and unlocking of your doors. I have taken vehicle down to the dealership they have confirmed that it was over the air update that has caused the system to crash. So driving down the road I cannot change to defrost once my window gets fogged up. Whatever position it would be stuck in when the system crashes is the position it will be in until new system is installed or fixed. My other concern is I went to sleep one night and I wake up the next day to have my truck randomly lock itself with my keys in it. It is a key fob system so my truck will not allow me to lock the keys in the vehicle. I am concerned since it just randomly did it for no reason what if there is an emergency and I have to exit the vehicle quickly or have a child or dog in the car will it just randomly lock itself again for no reason. There was no warnings,no lamps,no signs at all the u connect system just went out.The doors locking all by them selves no warning or signs as well. After speaking with Pop-A-Lock to get my keys out of the truck he says this make year and model is in the top 4 of vehicles that just randomly lock the keys in the vehicle for no reason very concerning as a safety issue.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while slowing down for a traffic signal or for traffic, the vehicle RPM’s fell to 564 RPM, and the vehicle started to stall. The contact stated that the target idle RPM should be set to approximately 900 RPM while idling. The contact stated that the failure was constant and had to have the vehicle towed several times due to not being able to restart the vehicle following a stall. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the RPM settings could not be changed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.
Vehicles air suspension freezes in colder weather causing the suspension to lock up. Just purchased this vehicle in August (warm weather) first time it happen was the first below 35° weather and almost bounced us off the road on the highway. Many complaints about this on line for 4th generation 1500's. We talked to dodge and they gaslighted the issue and told me is a recall comes up they will reimburse any issues caused by this. They CAN NOT reimburse a life if it bounces us off the road and causes a accident!! It's already caused another issue with either the cv boot or axel which were taking it tomorrow to be looked at. This is EXTREMELY unsafe and could definitely cause a accident!!!!
Fuel sending unit bad at 55,000 miles. This is unacceptable for a unit to go bad at this short of time. Everyone on the internet is complaining about the cost to replace this item and how often that it fails on all the Ram trucks. There should be a recall on this item immediately, as the cost to replace unit is in the 600- 900 dollar range, depending who fixes it. Then they also recommend you replace the hangers at the same time as they are also rotting out. Please do something about this and help the consumer beat this back to the manufacture to do it right!!! Already contacted Ram about this issue and the high cost of repair.
Suspension is air ride and is defected. It stops working and makes the truck bounce with any disturbance/bump on the road. Truck sways from side to side. Have had to replace the front axles/joints and the front end alignment. The mechanic stated that something was welded (that shouldn't have been) probably was caused because of the suspension. Every now and again the warning message "service suspension" comes on but not every time it happens. I haven't had the money to have it inspected because I put a lot down on the vehicle and to have the front end repaired. Our insurance wouldn't cover the claim.
This is the second time I've reported still no recall. These 5.7 are dangerous, with virtually no miles on them, the camshafts can have a lobe warn down, from oiling issued and the faulty MDS systems in these trucks. Mine stalled in the middle of a intersection with my wife and kids, these engines are unsafe and need to seriously be reevaluated. Also the timing chain guides prematurely wear out, causing excess play in the chain and can jump time and severely loose power or even stall out completely. Recall these engines, or I will make it public via YouTube, and facebook.
Heater blender door actuator not allowing defrost to warm the windshield and defrost making visibility impossible. This seems to be an ongoing problem with ram trucks and should be included in a recall fix
Electric power steering gets very stiff when making left or right turns. No warning lights. There was a recall for this problem but my VIN was not included.
The Air Suspension System on my 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 4 X4 has stalled or has currently frozen and this makes it extremely difficult to steer the vehicle. Even at low speeds 25-45 mph it leaves the pavement when crossing the slightest pavement imperfections. The Highways of Louisiana and Texas are filled with imperfections and it is a horrifying experience to drive this vehicle in this condition. I have taken it to several different respected mechanics, and many are the most recommended and it's always the same. "Dodge needs to have their butts kicked for putting this system in a small truck such as this." They warns me, 'it will only grow worse as the truck gets older.' When driving on the Interstate (I-20) in Louisiana and Texas the truck leaves the ground whenever I pass over a dip, bump or a bridge. This is scary when I am driving along beside an 18 Wheeler. Crossing Railroad Tracks is so distressing and uncomfortable needless to say, It feels like the truck is falling apart. I am afraid for my own safety, but I must drive the 35 miles one way to work five days a week. I have replaced the pump, but now the pump is pumping, but it appears to be something else. The local Dealerships have a reputation of ripping people off, and when I call to inquire or complain I only get a Salesmen who can help by assisting me to trade it in. At this point, with vehicle prices skyrocketing I just this dealership should sale vehicles worth the money they get. Dodge really needs to fix this problem. I have looked on YouTube and noticed this is a very common problem, and in every video the owners are stating how dangerous these vehicles are when the system goes out. It is life threatening to simple drive this vehicle to work in order to make a living to support my family.
Teenage son driving 75 mph on a bridge when steering suddenly went out causing the truck to swerve into another lane. With much effort he was able to pull steering wheel back into his lane but almost hit another vehicle in the process. Our vin is not included in the recall - this needs to be remedied immediately before someone is seriously hurt or killed. The truck has not been inspected or repaired, it can not be driven safely. There were not warning lamps or messages or symptoms prior.
My 2014 Ram 1500 Express Cab, Black, standards features. 2x4 wheel base. About 9am Oct. 4, 2021. I was at T intersection to turn left with light traffic. I had two red arrow left lane turn. When blindsided by distracted driver in 2014 4 Dr. BMW sedan by striking a center island mount cause the vehicle to jump 4 feet. Struck my driver side quarterpanel to driver door at 50 to 80 mph. Send both across the intersection to opposite curve. I was up right and BMW was laying on dirver side. My curtain and airbag never deployed at all. No fire since inline fuses were cut off power to engine I was pinned in my driver side. Mechanical seats was my savior allowed me to roll seat back so after door was cut off. The airbag was never deploy at all and would protect me from cuts and bruises at distracted driver speeds.
My ecoDiesel engine failed after 134k miles. Does not seem like an issue but the failure rate of this engine is very high - from Boards, from Dealers, emails by FCA. Since they fail at a high rate, it puts lot of broken vehicles on the road and puts the people in the vehicle at more risk for injury. It is a safety issue. They changed oil to fix major bearing failures as evidenced in these emails and Valvoline's letter rebukes it. Their emissions scandal forced them to make the engine do something the engine can not handle. These are time bombs.
When I drive at night or early in the morning when it is still dark out, my headlights turn off fully and I have to pull over for 20 to 30 mins to try and turn them back on
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at 60 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the fuel gauge showed empty. While pulling over, the fuel gauge regained normal functionality. The contact continued driving to his destination. The contact was concerned that the fuel gauge sensor might need to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,700.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the steering wheel failed. The contact stated that when attempting to turn the steering wheel, the steering had to be turned with force to be able to complete the turn. The contact stated that there was no warning light before during or after the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the electronic rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19E077000 (Steering). The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
The contact's husband owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the passenger’s side front seat belt failed to latch. Additionally, the driver’s side seat belt also failed to latch as needed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be serviced for an unknown recall repair and the dealer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Turned ignition to on, installed seat belt. Turned ignition to start, dash icons lit up and went out except a new one. Put in drive and had no power steering. Backed up, turned off ignition. restarted engine with power steering working. Drove vehicle. Next day, no power steering. This time would not reset. Researched problem on computer, finding others having same problem. Checked fuses finding relating ones good, and no power steering pump. Will consult a mechanical solution.
WHEN DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED THE POWER STEERING ASSIST SHUT OFF. THE RED LIGHT WITH THE POWER STEERING SYMBOL AND ! CAME ON. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND IT WAS WORKING AGAIN, U TIL I CAME TO A LOW SPEED. CHECKED THE FUSE #78 AND IT LOOKED OK, PLUGGED IT BACK IN AND NO ISSUE FOR 3 & 1/2 DAYS , UNTIL THIS MORNING. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE ON RAM 1500 YRS 2013 to 2019, BUT MY VIN DOES NOT REGISTER FOR THE RECALL. THIS STARTED MONDAY EVENING.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the power steering assist failed to operate as designed without warning. The contact stated that excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle once the failure had occurred. The contact stated that the power steering assist would return while driving the vehicle. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.
The contact's husband owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the steering wheel locked as the steering wheel symbol warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where it was kept for a week but not repaired. The contact then had the vehicle towed to a dealer where it remained in their possession for repairs to other recalls on the vehicle. The contact was notified by the dealer that the rack and pinion was the cause of the steering failure; however, there were no recalls on the vehicle for the rack and pinion. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and they also informed her that there were no recalls on the vehicle for the rack and pinion. The contact was informed that she would receive a call back from the manufacturer but had not yet received the call back. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.
Fuel level sensor failure at 67,000 miles. Known issue with RAM and yet they will not cover under warranty or recall. Driving in stop and go traffic only to watch my fuel gauge unexpectedly go down to empty not knowing why. Had to get towed to shop because did not know what was going on. Shop said was fuel gauge sensor and cost me over $900 to replace plus anxiety being towed in rush hour traffic.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 20 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact stated that the power steering warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed at the local mechanic with needing the rack and pinion column replaced. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 19E077000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.
The heater core is clogged and there is no heat on drivers side. No way to defrost windshield impairing visability.
The Ram has electric steering. Mine will turn off and on intermittently. When in a curve, it can cause you to have light pressure to high pressure to low pressure on the wheel. Have had two incidences where I could have hit others or went off the road in a curve.
