The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated the instrument cluster lights were intermittently dim and bright while driving, and the cabin light was inoperable. The contact stated while reversing into a parking spot, the message "Power Steering Failure" was displayed, and the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The vehicle was towed to the residence, where the power steering became functional. Additionally, the contact stated that while making a left turn to park the vehicle, the steering wheel jerked and pulled to the right. The contact was able to pull into the parking spot. The contact stated that while the vehicle was turned off the instrument cluster lights were illuminated and the RPMs revved up. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 73,000.
VEHICLE JUMPS WHEN COMING TO A STOP. ALMOST PUSHES THE CAR BEFORE IT IS STOPPED. NO TOWING, OR HIGH SPEED. JUST NORMAL DRIVING WHEN IT COMES TO SLOWING DOWN ALMOST TO A STOP AND IT JUMPS, BUCKS, OR PUSHES THE CAR BEFORE REALLY FIRMLY PUSHING THE BRAKES, AND HOPING THAT IT STOPS.
VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY DUE TO THE EGR DIFFUSER THE INTAKE WAS AFFECTED. DODGE HAS CURRENTLY HAD MY VEHICLE FOR ALMOST 3 MONTHS AND RECALLED PARTS HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED AND CANNOT BE ORDERED AT THE MOMENT
I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH MY POWER STEERING SINCE FEBRUARY 2020. WHEN I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER TO REPORT THIS I WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. THE RECALL STATES THE VEHICLES ELECTRIC POWER STEERING CONTROL CIRCUIT BOARD IS CAUSING A SHORT WHICH IS RESULTING IN A LOSS OF THE POWER STEERING ASSIST DUE TO THE MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. MY VEHICLE FALLS UNDER THE SAME YEAR OF THE VEHICLES BEING RECALLED. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO AN AUTOMOTIVE SHOP TO GET IT DIAGNOSED SINCE MY POWER STEERING LIGHT IS ON AND THE POWER STEERING CONTINUES TO NOT WORK AND THEY TOLD ME IT IS THE POWERING STEERING RACK THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED PLUS THE CIRCUIT BOARD. THEY TOLD ME THIS IS THE EXACT RECALL THAT IS OUT THERE NOW AND MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN THAT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I HAVE ALREADY CALLED DODGE CORPORATE AND FILED A COMPLAINT AND HAVE A CASE NUMBER ASSIGNED (#77899413). NOW THE DEALERS DON'T WANT TO WANT TO ACCEPT THE VEHICLE TO DIAGNOSE IT BECAUSE "THIS IS GOING TO BE DUMPED IN THEIR LAPS" THIS WAS EXACTLY WHAT A SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER TODAY. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY MATTER THAT NEEDS TO BE TAKE CARE OF ASAP. I HAVE 4 CHILDREN I AM DRIVING AROUND IN THIS VEHICLE WHICH CLEARLY SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. I AM HOPING TO HEAR BACK FROM SOMEONE ASAP AS I HAVE ALREADY BEEN DEALING WITH THIS SAFETY SINCE FEBRUARY WAITING FOR AN OFFICIAL RECALL NOTICE. IF THIS IS NOT TAKEN CARE OF IN A TIMELY MANNER I WILL BE FORCED TO INCLUDE MY ATTORNEY AND MAKE THIS A LEGAL ISSUE ON TOP OF A SAFETY ISSUE.
WHILE DRIVING HOME, I NOTICED SOME NOISE THAT OUNDE LIKE A TURBO NOISE AND LOOS OF POWER. I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF ENGINE AND POPED HOOD. LOOKE UP AND SMOKE FROM ENGINE. OPENED HOOD AND SAW SMALL FIRE ON REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF ENGINE BY TURBO HOUSING. SOON THE TRUCK WAS TOTALLY ENGULFED BY FLAMES.
THE POWER STEERING IS WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. DANGEROUS WHILE TRAVELING
SINCE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE I NOTICED THE SEALS LEAK DURING PRECIPITATION. I REPLACED THE SEAL AROUND THE UPPER CAB REAR BRAKE LIGHT. THIS STOPPED THE PUDDLE FROM FORMING UNDER THE BACK SEAT BUT THERE IS STILL WATER GETTING INTO THE CAB SOME WAY BECAUSE I CAN SMELL THE DAMPNESS IN THE CAB AFTER RAINY WEATHER.
I TOOK MY TRUCK INTO A DEALER BECAUSE THE EXHAUST SYSTEM WOULDN'T CLEAN ITSELF. I FOUND OUT THERE WERE RECALLS PERTAINING TO THIS AND THEY WERE HANDLED AS FAR AS I KNEW. HOWEVER, JUST A FEW WEEKS LATER AS I WAS PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY AT HOME I NOTICED SMOKE BARRELING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I IMEDIATELY TRIED TO SHUT IT OFF AND WHEN I DID IT WOULD REV UP HIGHER INSTEAD OF SHUTTING OFF. I GOT IT TO SHUT OFF FINALLY AND LEFT IT SITTING THERE OVERNIGHT UNTIL I COULD GET A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS PROBLEM IS NOW SO COMMON THAT THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER AND NO IDEA OF WHEN THEY WILL BE ABLE TO GET IT. NOW ITS 3 WEEKS LATER AND I STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN MY TRUCK BACK.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that upon taking the vehicle for the State Inspection, the contact's son was informed that the vehicle failed to pass due to the ABS. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the ABS module had failed. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost and due to the part being on backorder. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
SINCE PURCHASING THE TRUCK IN JANUARY OF 2020 I'VE NOTICED A SERIOUS DELAY IN TIME FROM WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS ENGAGED TO WHEN THE THROTTLE RESPONDS. THIS IS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE WHEN THE TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN RUNNING FOR MORE THAN 10 MINUTES. I ASSUME SINCE THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT IT WAS OCCURRING BEFORE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. ONE OF MY COWORKERS WHO DRIVES THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL ALSO HAS THE SAME ISSUE.
FUEL GUAGE READS EMPTY EVEN WITH A FULL TANK.. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WON'T GO OFF DUE TO IT AND THERE IS A HESITATION IN EXCELERATION DUE TO FUEL INCONSISTANCY
TIPM CAUSING FUEL PUMP TO OPERATE AFTER IGNITION IS TURNED OFF, DRAINING BATTERY, LEAVING FAMILY STRANDED IN REMOTE LOCATION.
IN JAN. 2020 I WAS TRAVELING FROM VALDEZ, AK TO WASILLA, AK WHEN A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON FOR THE DEF SYSTEM. THE DEF WAS FROZEN. I WAS FAIRLY CLOSE TO A FRIENDS HOUSE SO I STOPPED THERE AND WE PULLED THE TRUCK INTO THE GARAGE TO THAW. ONCE IT THAWED THE WARNING WENT AWAY AND THE TRUCK WORKED FINE. BUT NOW I'M CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING MY TRUCK ANY DISTANCE AWAY FROM MY HOME DURING THE WINTER. I OFTEN TRAVEL DURING THE WINTER WHEN THE TEMPS CAN BE -5 TO -30. I BELIEVE THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED, MOST ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO OWN THIS TRUCK AND LIVE IN AREAS THAT DO GET COLD.
2016 RAM ECODIESEL 60,000 MILES I RECENTLY ACCEPTED THE OFFER FROM RAM FOR EMISSIONS RECALL ON MY ECODIESEL. I AGREED TO IT THINKING THAT WITH THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT THEY OFFERED THAT MY PROBLEMS WOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF. PART OF THE RECALL WAS TO HAVE THE AEM UPDATE DONE TO YOUR TRUCK. AFTER THE DEALER INSTALLED THIS WHICH I BELIEVE IT WAS JUST AN ECM REFLASH MY TRUCK GETS WORSE FUEL ECONOMY AND SOMETIMES WILL START AND THE RPMS WILL SLOWLY CREEP DOWN UNTIL THE TRUCK DIES. IF I KEEP RESTARTING THE ENGINE IT WILL EVENTUALLY STAY RUNNING AFTER 10 OR 15 MINUTES IDLING. NORMALLY DOES IT WHEN YOU ARE ON A TIME CRUNCH. MY ENGINE HAS ALWAYS CONSUMED A LOT OF ENGINE COOLANT. WAS ON A TRIP WITH MY FAMILY AND THE HEAT QUIT WORKING. I STOPPED AT A PARTS STORE AND PURCHASED A GALLON OF ANTIFREEZE AND IT TOOK THE WHOLE GALLON TO FILL IT BACK UP TO THE RESOVOIR. I HAVE HAD TO ADD COOLANT AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH. HAVE PROBABLY ADDED 4 GALLONS IN THE LAST YEAR.ACCELERATION IS VERY SLUGGISH AT TIMES. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT'S GOING TO DO IT. I RECENTLY TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE DEALER FOR THE STARTING PROBLEM AND THE COOLANT CONSUMPTION PROBLEM. I WAS FLOORED WHEN THE SERVICE WRITER CALLED AND SAID THAT RAM IS AWARE OF THESE PROBLEMS BUT THERE IS CURRENTLY NO FIX AND GAVE ME FREE ANTIFREEZE! I COULD UNDERSTAND THIS IF THE TRUCK WAS BRAND NEW BUT IT'S 4 YEARS OLD. THERE SHOULD BE A FIX BY NOW! I AM PAYING $500 A MONTH FOR A VEHICLE THAT MAY OR MAY NOT START. IT MAY OR MAY NOT MOVE WHEN I HIT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND IT STILL USES ANTIFREEZE. I AM VERY DISSATISFIED WITH THIS TRUCK AND RAM NOT HOLDING UP TO THEIR END OF THE DEAL. IF I KNEW WHAT I KNOW NOW I WOULD'VE OPTED OUT OF THEIR OFFER. ALL OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE THE SAME ISSUES AND RAM NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR NEGLECT OF THESE PROBLEMS. MY TRUCK IS A DEATH TRAP!
PARKED TRUCK. TURNED KEYFOB TO OFF. REMOVED AND LOCKED VEHICLE. NOTICED VEHICLE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. GOT BACK IN AND TRIED TURNING OFF AGAIN. DIDN'T WORK. HAD TO DRIVE FOR SHORT DISTANCE. TRIED AGAIN. WORKED.
LAST MONTH (DECEMBER 2019) ON A COLD DAY, I TRIED TO PUT DOWN THE DRIVER'S WINDOW IN 2016 RAM 1500. HOWEVER, THE WINDOW WAS FROZEN IN PLACE DUE TO AN OVERNIGHT SNOWSTORM. THE WINDOW DIDN'T MOVE AND I RELEASED THE BUTTON. THEN, WHILE PARKED IN A PUBLIC PARKING LOT, THE WINDOW WENT HALF WAY DOWN ON ITS OWN. I FOUND IT THIS WAY WHEN I RETURNED TO THE TRUCK. IT WENT UP WITH THE BUTTON AND I BEGAN MY TRIP HOME. DURING THIS TRIP HOME, WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND I HAD NOT TOUCHED THE BUTTON, THE WINDOW FELL COMPLETELY INTO DOOR. APPARENTLY THE WINDOW HAD COME APART FROM THE PLASTIC CLIPS HOLDING IT TO THE UP/DOWN MECHANISM. TODAY, JANUARY 9, 2020, ANOTHER COLD DAY, MY WIFE PRESSED THE BUTTON TO NUDGE THE PASSENGER WINDOW UP (IT WAS OPEN JUST A TAD) AND INSTEAD OF GOING UP, THE WINDOW DROPPED INTO THE HALF WAY POSITION. WE GOT IT UP WITH THE BUTTON AND IT'S NOW TAPED IN PLACE UNTIL THE GARAGE CAN GET TO IT. THIS WINDOW TOO APPEARS TO HAVE COME OFF THE LITTLE PLASTIC CLIPS HOLDING IT PLACE TODAY, I ALSO GOOGLE'D THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE DISCOVERED IT'S A KNOWN PROBLEM ON 2016 RAM TRUCKS WITH PAGES OF POSTS IN MULTIPLE FORUMS BEGINNING IN 2017 OF OWNERS EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM WHEN ITS COLD. THERE HAVE ALSO BEEN SEVERAL WEB ARTICLES DISCUSSING THE PROBLEM. SEVERAL OF THE POSTS INDICATE THAT FCA HAS HAD MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE FOR SEVERAL REASONS. FIRST, ITS NOT PARTICULARLY SAFE FOR PEOPLE TO BE DRIVING AROUND IN STORMS AND FREEZING WEATHER WITH WINDOWS THAT JUST DROP INTO THE DOOR AND WON'T COME BACK UP. SECOND, ITS NOT PARTICULARLY SAFE TO HAVE THE WINDOW IN YOUR VEHICLE OPEN ON ITS OWN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED. THIRD, TAPING THE WINDOWS IN PLACE (EVEN TEMPORARILY) COULD HURT EGRESS FROM THE VEHICLE IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY.
FAULTY KEY SWITCH. DOES NOT ALLOW KEY TO FULLY TURN OFF, AND HAS TO BE RETRIED, SOMETIMES 3 TIMES. SOMETHING LIKE BLACK PIECE INSIDE KEYHOLE STICKS. TRUCK IS 3 YRS,4 MONTHS OLD, AND HAS ONLY 18253 MILES ON IT. IT IS PAST BUMPER TO BUMPER, BUT THIS SURE SEEMS AWFUL PREMATURE TO FAIL. I AM GUESSING IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE WHEN THE KEY GOES IN, JUST MAKE SURE IT SHUTS OFF PROPERLY.
ON 01/06/2020 I WAS COMING TO A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION IN MY 2016 RAM 1500 EXPRESS ( 38,000 MILES ) AND AS I APPLIED THE BRAKE , THE PEDDLE WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR . AS I WAS NEARLY ABOUT TO COLLIDE WITH THE VEHICLES AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT/INTERSECTION AND FRANTICALLY PUMPING THE BRAKE PEDDLE , I FINALLY GOT THE BRAKES TO ENGAGE. WHEN I FINALLY CAME TO A STOP , I WAS HAPPY TO NOT HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND KEPT DRIVING THINKING WHATEVER HAPPENED HAD FIXED IT'S SELF ( SUNNY DAY , AND DRY PAVEMENT ) . THE NEXT DAY ON MY WAY HOME FOR WORK I HEARD A GRINDING NOISE FROM THE PASSENGER REAR WHEEL , AND PULLED OVER TO CHECK IT OUT . I NOTICED THE ROTOR SCORED BADLY, AND THE OUTER PAD MISSING THE FRICTION MATERIAL , SO I PICKED UP A SET OF PADS AND WENT HOME TO PULL THE WHEEL OFF AND INSPECT . NOW , I HAVE BEEN A MECHANIC OVER 20 YEARS AND DONE WELL OVER A THOUSAND BRAKE JOBS/SERVICES ON HUNDREDS OF MAKES/MODELS OF VEHICLES , AND HAVE NEVER SEEN THE OUTER BRAKE PADS WARE OUT FIRST . THE TRUCK HAS ONLY 38,000 MILES ON IT AND THE FRONT BRAKES HAVE OVER 1/4" OF PAD LEFT , AND THE REARS HAVE ABOUT THE SAME , AND A BRAKE CHANGE IS A LONG WAYS AWAY , SO I WAS CURIOUS WHAT I'D FIND . I FOUND THE CALIPER TO BE IN GREAT CONDITION , GUIDE PINS / RACES TO ALL BE IN GREAT SMOOTH WORKING ORDER , AND WHEN I PRESSED THE PISTON BACK IN NOTICED GOOD SMOOTH OPERATION, ALL DUST BOOTS IN GOOD CONDITION , AND NO LEAKING BRAKE FLUID ANYWHERE . I DID HOWEVER FIND THE INNER PAD ABOUT 1/2 DELAMINATED ( FRICTION MATERIAL-TO-METAL BACK PLATE ) AND AN OUTER PAD WITH THE FRICTION MATERIAL COMPLETELY MISSING . I CLEANED UP ALL SURFACES , APPLIED PROPER GREASE , AND INSTALLED NEW PADS BECAUSE ROTOR WAS IN USEABLE CONDITION BECAUSE I CAUGHT THE PROBLEM QUICKLY . I AM CONCERNED THE OTHER PADS ON THE TRUCK MIGHT FAIL AS WELL CAUSING AN ACCIDENT , INJURY , OR FATALITY , AND WANTED TO REPORT
AIR SUSPENSION HAS FOUR LEVELS. IT IS STUCK ON THE LOWEST LEVEL AND RIDES VERY BOUNCY AND JUMPS VIOLENTLY ON ALL BUT THE SMOOTHEST ROAD SURFACE. THE DEALERSHIP ESTIMATES THE REPAIR AT $4000. YOUTUBE HAS MANY PAGES OF PEOPLE WITH SAME PROBLEM.
IN ORDER TO REGISTER MY VEHICLE IN CALIFORNIA I WAS FORCED TO ACCEPT THE V08 EMISSIONS RECALL. AFTER THIS RECALL, I HAVE NOTICED SUBSTANTIAL LAG BETWEEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR AND BETWEEN WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES. I WAS TOLD THERE WOULD BE NO CHANGE IN PERFORMANCE BY BOTH THE DEALER AND FCA. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN TWO ACCIDENTS NOW BECAUSE I ATTEMPTED TO EXECUTE A LEFT TURN AND EVEN THOUGH I WAS DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR, THE VEHICLE SLUGGISHLY ROLLED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND THEN 2-3 SECONDS LATER, ACCELERATED RAPIDLY MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN LANE INTEGRITY WHILE NAVIGATING THE TURN. I GENERALLY DRIVE FAIRLY MODESTLY WHICH IS WHY THERE HAVE BEEN ONLY TWO LIFE-THREATENING INCIDENTS IN THE PAST 3 OR SO MONTHS THAT I HAVE HAD THE "UPDATE". REALISTICALLY THOUGH, THIS FORCED UPDATE HAS CHANGED THE NATURE OF THE TRUCK AND MADE IT ULTIMATELY MORE DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. ALL OF THIS BEHAVIOR BEGAN AFTER THE NOTED RECALL. I SPOKE WITH THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED, AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE RECEIVED THIS COMPLAINT FROM OTHER DRIVERS AS WELL, AND THAT WHILE RAM WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, THEY HAD NO REMEDY AT THIS TIME. THE DATE MENTIONED IN THE REPORT IS SIMPLY OF THE MOST RECENT OF INCIDENTS THAT I MENTIONED.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THE EGR COOLER (VB1/NHTSA 19V-757) FOR ALMOST ONE YEAR. OUR DEALER (LARRY H MILLER RAM) IN SANDY UT KEEPS TELLING US THAT FCA HAS NOT MADE THE PARTS AVAILABLE TO FIX THE DEFECT.
CLICKING/TAPPING NOISE COMING FROM ENGINE AT COLD STARTS. NOISE GOES AWAY WHEN ENGINE WARMS UP. TOOK TRUCK TO DEALER AND PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS. SERVICE MANAGE SAID THIS WAS ON GOING PROBLEM WITH 5.7 HEMI ENGINES SINCE 2009. I HAD TO PAY FOR REPAIR EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURER ERROR IN DESIGN. COST WAS $684 TO REPLACE BOLTS.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BRANHAVEN JEEP CHRYSLER DODGE RAM (348 WEST MAIN STREET, BRADFORD, CT 06405, (203) 488-6351) AND AN UNKNOWN SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS PERFORMED. DURING ACCELERATION THEIR HAS BEEN ANYWHERE FROM 3-6 DELAY SECONDS BEFORE ADEQUATE POWER AND SPEED CAN BE FELT. THIS IS AT A FULL STOP SUCH AS A STOP SIN OR RED TRAFFIC LIGHT. DURING HIGHWAY TRAFFIC (PASSING) OR MERGING INTO A LANE IS WERE IS MOST NOTICEABLE. THIS FAILURE OCCURS EVEN WHEN ENGINE IS PROPERLY AT OPERATING TEMPERATURE AND IS WORSE RIGHT AFTER START UP. IT CALLS FOR AN OIL THAT IS TO LIGHT BREAKS DOWN MOLECULAR WEIGHT TOO QUICKLY AND TRUCKS AND JEEPS ALIKE EQUIPED WITH THE ECODIESEL HAVE BEEN HAVING CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO PREMATURE ENGINE WEAR ON INTERNAL COMPONENTS. IT IS RECOMMENDED TO PUT 5W40 IN INSTEAD. THIS IS FIRST AND FOREMOST TRUE I DID RESEARCH AND CONFIRMED THAT THE CHANGE WAS MADE BUT NEVER MADE PUBLIC TO THE OWNERS LIKE THE CURRENT CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS WAS.
