The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH through a Construction Zone, the front passenger’s side tire independently detached. No warning light was illuminated. On another occasion, while the contact’s husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact's husband noticed that the gear shifter was loose, and the vehicle was stuck in park. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V398000 (Wheels); however, it failed to prevent a failure. The local dealer was contacted, and the vehicle was diagnosed with 4 loosened lug nuts on the driver’s side rear wheel. Additionally, there were 7 stretched front driver’s side lug nuts, and 2 stretched lug nuts on the rear passenger’s side of the vehicle. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle was previously taken to the same local dealer; however, the cause of the failure was not yet identified. The vehicle was repaired partially at the consumer's expense. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
Tire Size: LT235/80R17. Tire installed [XXX]. Tire Dated Stamp: 4619. Mileage on tire: Approx 23K. Vehicle: 2017 Ram 3500 Laramie Longhorn Dually w/6.7L Diesel. Road Surface: Smooth. Hazards: none. Weather Condition: Excellent. Front right tire blow out occurred on [XXX] approx 10 miles east of Leesville LA. No indication of tire failure prior to blow out. Initial tire inflation was 80 PSI. Approx $8k damage to front right fender area. Front tires were rotated and balanced annually. Vehicle was traveling at 65MPH pulling a 20 ft empty cargo trailer. Contacted Goodyear and shipped them the tire for analysis, Goodyear File #[XXX]. Goodyear stated: "Tire condition occurred dure to an impact causing overdeflection of the tire and a fracture of the steel belt package, and/or fabric piles and/or line. No workmanship or material related condition contributed to the initial air loss." I have the tire in question. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Driving on highway back right side wheel studs broke off, wheel separated from vehicle.
5 of the 8 wheel studs on the left rear tire suddenly sheared off while my husband was driving the vehicle. This occurred without warning and with no provoking event - just driving normally. My husband was able to safely pull over and was not hurt but it could have potentially caused a crash and/or serious bodily harm to him or others on the roadway. I contacted the dealer knowing that a recall had been issued for similar year trucks (we received a recall for this on our Ram 4500) and they rudely told me that there was not a recall on this truck and they would not fix it. I do have a picture and the shears were all fresh suggesting that it occurred all at once. The dealer will not look at it for 30 days so we are making other arrangements to have the repair done but I worry about the other tires. If there are multiple year recalls in RAM trucks of varying models for the same thing that would suggest that this event has occurred from a similar manufacturing defect. Dodge needs to take responsibility and offer a solution before someone else is hurt or killed. I don't care about the money. I care about the lives of the people driving RAM trucks and the manufacturer says it is not on them.
I made appointment with Ram dealership. The letter said 2 or so hours. The advisor stated, it will take all day because I was a recall and they will not have the diesel mechanic stop working on other vehicles for a recall. Which makes no sense since it's not my fault The truck not safe to drive. In addition, I depend on my truck because I use it for my work - hot shot (delivery). I been waiting at dealership for over 3 hours and they still have not even looked at it. The dealership is not prioritizing my vehicle, although it should since I am a customer after all and this is a recall from the manufacturer. Dealerships should be made aware that a vehicle should be fixed as they come in, not based on whether you are paying or not. This dealership always does this when warranty or recalls and it's frustrating. It's not fair for us to lose this much time because we are not paying. How is it my fault the vehicle is defective? After all it was not caused because of my driving but because it was not manufactured correctly. I like Ram but the dealership need to better understand the customer whether paying or not. This is not fair and is annoying.

MY 2017 RAM 3500 6.7L DUALLY WITH ONLY 18,312 MILES ON IT HAD A TREAD SEPARATION ON A FACTORY NEXEN ROADIAN REAR TIRE. HAD ANOTHER ONE PREVIOUSLY LATE LAST YEAR ON A FACTORY FRONT TIRE AT 14,412 MILES. LUCKILY I DISCOVERED BOTH WITH CUPPING OF THE TIER AND ROAD VIBRATION BEFORE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. THE FACTORY NEXEN ROADIAN 10 PLY TIRES ON THE RAM TRUCKS ARE CRAP AND DANGEROUS AND I'VE READ MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE SAME FACTORY TIRES, SOME WITH CATASTROPHIC RESULTS. RAM SHOULD HAVE RECALLED AND REPLACED THESE TIRES AFTER SEEING ALL THE COMPLAINTS! I USE THIS TRUCK TO PULL A 34 FT HORSE TRAILER WITH $50,000 HORSES, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, MY WIFE IS USUALLY OUT ON THE ROAD WITH IT ALONE AND IT COULD BE CATASTROPHIC TO HAVE A FAILURE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH A HEAVY TRAILER. RAM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS POOR CHOICE OF TIRES.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was being driven at approximately 75 MPH, there was a sudden drop on the passenger’s side of the vehicle. The driver waited until the vehicle decelerated before being able to coast to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The contact stated that the rear passenger’s side wheel had detached. The wheel hub assembly, brake pads, rotors, and studs on all four wheels were replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer confirmed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V398000 (Wheels). The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

The contact stated while driving at various speeds, two of the tires exploded into pieces on different occasions. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle was taken to a tire shop, where the tires were replaced. The contact stated that a third tire exploded while driving. The vehicle was taken to a tire shop, where it was recommended to replace all four tires because the tire brand and line was defective. The contact was informed that the tires were separating from inside out. The contact stated that the failure mainly occurred while hauling a camper. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact to install a gauge on each tire. The contact followed the manufacturer's instructions; however, the failure persisted. The contact filed a refund claim with the manufacturer and was informed that the claim was approved. The manufacturer advised the contact to destroy the tires and to send a picture of the destroyed tires. The contact followed the manufacturer's instructions but was later informed that the pictures were not received. The contact had not received a refund from the manufacturer. The tires were replaced with a different brand tire. The tires were original tires. The tire failure mileage was approximately 14,000. The vehicle mileage was approximately 14,000.
