TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 157,000. THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 159,000.
MY AIRBAG LIGHT HAS STAYED ON. MY IGNITION KEY FAILS TO COME OUT. I HAVE TO STALL CAR OUT EVERY TIME I PARK. AND UNPLUG STEERING COLUMN FROM BATTERY. *TR
ENGINE FAILED AT 125,000 MILES. ENGINE SPECIALIST DETERMINED CYLINDER #4 OIL STARVATION AS THE CAUSE. OIL CHANGE INTERVALS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN APPROXIMATELY 7500 MILES. ENGINE STALLED OUT AND WOULD NOT CRANK TO RESTART. ENGINE WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. COST: APPROXIMATELY $4,000.
THE VEHICLE'S STEERING IGNITION COLUMN WAS NOT RELEASING THE KEY AFTER THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF. GM EVENTUALLY MAILED A RECALL AFTER SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ENDANGERING THE DRIVER. ON JULY 28, 2014, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR ITS RECALL, HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE STEERING IGNITION COLUMN WAS NOT RELEASING THE KEY. HOMESTEAD CHEVROLET STATED THAT THE RECALL DID NOT COVER THE SHIFT LOCK CONTROL SOLENOID AND THE COST IS $500 DOLLARS. I FEEL THAT GM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS PERSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THE KEY IGNITION. *TR
MY SON WAS DRIVING AND THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF HIM STOPPED SUDDENLY. HE HIT THE BRAKES AND FELT THE STEERING LOCK UP, BRAKES LOCKED AND HE COULDN'T STOP. HIT THE TRUCK HARD ENOUGH TO CRACK THE CORE SUPPORT IN THE SATURN BUT THE AIR BAG DO NOT EXPAND. HE WAS NOT INJURED BUT THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE IF YOU CAN HIT ANOTHER CAR ENOUGH TO CRACK THE STEEL FRAME BUT NO AIRBAG WAS DEPLOYED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY POWER STEERING SENSOR CAME ON AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY FAILED TO RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS. IN ADDITION, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE FAILURES OCCURRED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V047000 (AIR BAG, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT RECTIFIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
WHEN DRIVING MY CHECK GAS CAP LIGHT COMES ON, AS WELL AS THE COOLANT LIGHT COMES ON WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE 2013, IT HAPPENS DURING DRIVING ON A HWY, IN THE CITY EVERYWHERE THE CAR IS DRIVEN, I PUSH THE RESET BUTTON AND IT CLEARS HOWEVER IT COMES BACK WITHIN 5 MINUTES....

THE CONTACT TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF FOR APPROXIMATELY TEN MINUTES AND ONCE RESTARTED, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. ON JUNE 14TH WE WERE GOING ALONG ABOUT 60 MPH THE FIRST TIME DOWN TO SALEM, OREGON. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON. IT'S HARD TO STEER AND WE TURN OFF THE CAR IN NEUTRAL THEN TURN IT BACK ON. IT THEN COMES BACK ON HALFWAY BETWEEN THE 45 MINUTE DRIVE. WE DO THE SAME THING AGAIN. ON FRIDAY THE 14TH IT HAPPENS 4X. IT HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. ONE TIME IT WAS REAL BAD THE LIGHT CAME ON, AND WAS TURNING INTO THE PARKING SPOT FOR OUR APARTMENT AT 5MPH. IT WAS SO HARD TO TURN THE WHEEL TO GET THE CAR PARKED. IT DIDN'T HAPPEN MUCH FOR ABOUT A WEEK. HERE AND THERE, I DID THE SAME THING TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON. NOW, IT'S HAPPENING MORE OFTEN. THIS SHOULD BE SOMETHING THAT GM NEEDS TO FIX AND REPLACE WHAT EVER IS WRONG, AND DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. IT SHOULD BE A PERMANENT FIX NOT A TEMPORARY ONE. THIS CAN CAUSE ISSUES WHEN TURNING SHARPLY TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND I KNOW HOW CUSTOMER SERVICE CAN BE. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND NOT OPENED THEN CLOSED INVESTIGATION BECAUSE IT'S NOT RIGHT. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED. *TR
THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WOULD NOT WORK ON SEVERAL OCCASION. WE HAD RECEIVED A LETTER FROM SATURN STATING IF THE POWER STEERING ASSIST LIGHT COMES ON AND THE POWER STEERING FAILS TO WORK, BRING IT TO OUR LOCAL GM DEALER FOR A RECALL. APPARENTLY THEY HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH NOT ONLY THE SATURNS, BUT SEVERAL OTHER OF THEIR AUTOMOBILES. WE TOOK THE CAR IN ON JUNE 14, 2013, WE WERE TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM. THEN IN THE BEGINNING OF AUGUST THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. MY DAUGHTER BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALER AGAIN, THEY INDICATED BEFORE SHE EVER SAT DOWN THAT IF THIS WAS A DIFFERENT PROBLEM SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. I THOUGHT THAT WAS ODD. IT WAS DOING THE EXACT SAME THING. THEY MADE HER WAIT AN HOUR TO TELL HER THAT SHE NEEDED TO HAVE THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED AND IT WOULD BE $920.00. I HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM, AND GM HAS HAD THE PROBLEM CONTINUALLY WITH THE SATURN. I TRIED TO GO THROUGH GM TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. BECAUSE ALL THE DOCUMENTATION I HAVE INDICATES THAT IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY PRETTY MUCH GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND. THEY DID CALL ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, BUT THEY THOUGHT I WANTED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THAT WAS NOT THE ISSUE, THE ISSUE IS THAT THE CAR IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES (PER THEIR LETTER FOR THE RECALL) AND IS STILL HAVE THE ISSUES. I FEEL LIKE THEY ARE IGNORING THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY NO LONGER MAKE THE SATURN PRODUCT. THIS IS A RECALL ISSUE. THANKS *TR
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR, THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD NOT TURN. AFTER A NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS, THE KEY BEING SHAKEN THE CAR WOULD START. I TOOK THIS CAR TO MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. HE ALSO STATED THAT THEY HAVE SEEN A NUMBER OF ISSUES WITH THIS IGNITION AND SUGGESTED I CONTACT GM AND SEE IF THERE IS A RECALL. AT TIMES IT WOULD TAKE 10 MINUTES BEFORE I COULD START THE CAR. *TR
TRAVELLING ON 580EB IN TRAFFIC. CAME TO A STOP, VEHICLE BEHIND ME DID NOT. HE WAS TRAVELLING AT APPROX 50MPH AND DEMOLISHED MY VEHICLE. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE DRIVER SEAT BENT BACK TO FULLY RECLINED POSITION. I SUSTAINED NECK AND UPPER BACK INJURIES. *TR
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING MY 05 SATURN ION 2 QUAD COUPE HOME FROM WORK ON THE INTERSTATE.TRAFFIC STOPPED , CAME TO COMPLETE STOP VEHICLE BEHIND DID NOT BRAKE AND REAR ENDED MY VEHICLE AT ROUGHLY 50+ MPH CAUSING HIM TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE IN TURN CAUSING A 6 VEHICLE ACCIDENT. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY CAUSING HIS HEAD TO HIT THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE DRIVER SEAT BROKE IN HALF WITH HIM IN IT LANDING ON THE BACK SEAT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR

THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE DEALER REPLACED THE KEY CODE HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. ON 3 OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING IN MAY 2013, THE CONSUMER WAS LOCKED INSIDE THE VEHICLE DUE TO KNOW ELECTRICAL POWER. THE IGNITION WAS REPLACED AND THE BLACK BOX WAS RE-BOOTED. THE CONSUMER HAS SINCE TRADED THE VEHICLE. *JB
I WAS TURNING AT AN INTERSECTION AND POWER STEERING WENT OUT. AS THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT A WARNING CAME ACROSS THE DASH. I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR ON FEBRUARY 14, 2013 USED. *TR
I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY KEY GETTING STUCK IN IGNITION FOR PAST YEAR. I WENT TO DEALER LAST YEAR AND THEY COULD NOT FIND WHAT WAS WRONG. NOW I KNOW THAT GM IS RECALLING CARS BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. I HAVE NOT YET RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE AND UNTIL I DO I CANNOT REPAIR THE CAR. I CALLED A LOCAL GM DEALER-BOB JOHNSON CHEVY AND THEY STATED THEY ARE AWARE BUT GM ADVISED THEM NO PARTS UNTIL BEGINNING OF APRIL. THEN I RECEIVED A CALL LATER STATING THEY HAVE A IGNITION MODULE TO INSTALL AND IT WOULD COST ME $260 DOLLARS TO REPAIR VEHICLE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW TO DO I FIND OUT IF MY CAR IS ON LIST AND GET THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V047000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
WHEN I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT OF MY JOB THERE IS A SLIGHT DIP IN THE ROAD WHEN EXITING THE PARKING LOT ON TO THE STREET AND AS I WAS PULLING OUT MAKING A RIGHT TURN AND I WENT OVER THE BUMP AND MY CAR SHUT OFF AND I WAS NOT AWARE IT HAD SHUT OFF UNTIL I WAS ALMOST AT A COMPLETE STOP. WHEN THE CAR SITS FOR A DAY OR MORE IT WON'T CRANK AND NEEDS TO BE JUMPED OFF. THE BATTERY AND ALTENATOR ARE GOOD AND SO ARE THE FUSES. I HAVE CHANGED IGNITION RELAY AND NO DIFFERENCE. HAD CAR RUNNING AND WOULD NOT THIS MORNING AFTER SITTING FOR 18 HRS. BATT IS TOTALLY DEAD. *TR
WE BOUGHT THIS USED SATURN ON 12/ 28/13 AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 10 DAYS, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME OUT. THE WARRANTY AUTO MECHANIC SAID THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE. THE AUTO SALE DEALER CHECKED IT WAS OXYGEN SENSOR ISSUE. REFERRED US TO GET FREE FIX AT THE EL MONTE SMOG AUTO MECHANIC BUT FAILED TO FIX IT DESPITE MANY TIMES. WE WENT TO THE MECHANIC NEAR OUR HOUSE. WE PAID SEVERAL HUNDREDS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. FEW WEEKS LATER, ANOTHER PROBLEM THAT THE KEY COULD NOT TAKE OUT FROM THE SWITCH AND IT ALWAYS STUCK INSIDE THE SWITCH SOON AFTER WE TURNED OFF THE KEY. WE NEED TO WAIT A LONG TIME TO PULL THE KEY FROM THE SWITCH. WE IGNORED THE ISSUE BUT WENT TO MAKE A COPY FROM A LOCKSMITH IN ALHAMBRA. WE USED THE DUPLICATED KEY TO DRIVE IT BUT IT WAS STUCK AND COULDN'T TAKE OUT. WE WENT BACK THE LOCKSMITH WHO HELPED US TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE SWITCH. SINCE THEN, THE ISSUE WAS SOLVED .ON 4/5/2014 WE GOT OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD THERE ARE MANY ISSUES THAT NEED TO BE FIXED. IT COST US ABOUT $1200- . FEW DAYS LATER, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME OUT AGAIN, WE SCARED THAT IT WAS UNSAFE AS EVERYDAY WE NEED TO DRIVE CARPOOL FROM HOME (CHINO HILLS) TO OUR WORKPLACE . WE WERE TOLD IT WAS OXYGEN SENSOR AGAIN. ON 4/14/14, THE WINDOW SCREEN WIPER SUDDENLY MOVED WHILE WE WERE DRIVING. IT COULD NOT STOP AT ALL EVEN AFTER WE TURNED OFF AND TURNED OUT THE KEY. THE NEXT DAY, IT HAD RUN OUT THE BATTERY AND TRIPLE A SAID IT WAS THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE. WE WENT TO ANOTHER AUTO MECHANIC WHO TOLD US THAT IT WAS THE COMPUTER ISSUE AS THE GE HAD INSTALLED THEIR COMPUTER TO ATTACHED MOST OF THE PARTS INCLUDING THE WIPER. 2 DAYS AGO, WE HEARD A STRANGE SOUND ON THE DRIVER SIDE WHILE DRIVING TO WORK ON THE FREEWAY. I SLOWED DOWN THE SPEED. WE WERE SO WORRIED TO DRIVE THE CAR . WE REGRET TO BUY AMERICAN CAR AS WE USED TO BUY JAPANESE CARS. PLEASE ADVISE . MY CAR LEAKS IN THE ROOF WHEN ITS RAINS AND HAS STAINED MY INTERIOR ROOF. MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND ON THE DISPLAY IT WAS PWR STEERING. MY OUTSIDE TRIM NEAR WINDOWS IS WARPED. MY SUNROOF DOESNT WORK IT WONT OPEN. *TR

DRIVING ON THE WAY TO WORK THIS MORNING, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT THREE TIMES! TWICE ON A REGULAR HIGHWAY AND ONCE ON THE INTERSTATE. GOING 45 MPH SUDDENLY BELL SOUNDED AND PWR STEER LIGHT CAME ON AND IMMEDIATELY THE POWER STEERING WENT OFF. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, BUT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO TURN IT, BECAUSE THE STEERING BECOMES, NOT QUITE MANUAL, SURELY MUCH HARDER THAN THE MANUAL MODE I WELL REMEMBER. WHEN I CUT OFF THE MOTOR AND RESTARTED, THE STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL. ON THE INTERSTATE, I WAS GOING 62 MPH WHEN THE STEERING WENT OUT. PULLED OVER TO AN EXIT LANE, STOPPED AND RESTARTED AND EVERYTHING WORKED AGAIN. VERY DANGEROUS! I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY CARS HAVE BEEN STOPPED ON THE ROAD, AND A CAR COMING FAILED TO SEE THAT THEY WERE STOPPED AND SLAMMED INTO THEM... I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR IN APRIL. IN CHECKING ONLINE BEFORE BUYING, I SAW THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE KEY STICKING, BUT DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING ABOUT THE STEERING AT ALL. I'M A WIDOW, STILL WORKING, AND REPAIRS WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT. ESPECIALLY WHEN THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL, AND DONE FOR FREE, SINCE IT WAS/IS DEFECTIVE AND POSSIBLY INJURIOUS. DRIVING AT 55 MPH ON A STRAIGHT SECTION OF HIGHWAY 703, THE POWER STEERING WARNING CAME ON AND I LOST THE POWER STEERING. I PULLED OVER WITH NO POWER STEERING, TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE THEN RESTARTED THE ERROR CLEARED AND I HAD POWER STEERING AGAIN. STARTED WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH, IN THE WINTER TIME THE CAR WOULDN'T START WHEN IT WAS TOO COLD. THE SECURITY SYSTEM ICON WOULD COME ON AN I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT FOR ABOUT 10 TO 15 MINUTES SO THE CAR COULD START AGAIN. THIS WENT ON FOR FEW YEARS DURING WINTER TIME. NO RECALLS BACK THEN. THEN THE POWER STEERING LIGHT STARTED COMING ON, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK MAKING IT VERY HARD TO TURN OR MANEUVER. HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY OR REGULAR STREETS. BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO DEALER ON JULY 2013 AND THEY REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR PER THEIR "SPECIAL POLICY". THE CAR GOT WORST INSTEAD OF BETTER SINCE THEN. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WOULD COME ON AN NOW THE WHOLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM KEEP GOING CRAZY. THE MONITOR WOULD BLINK AND SHOW POWER STEERING WORDS, THE SIDE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AN BLINKED BY ITSELF. THE DEALER SAID WE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN WHICH WOULD COST ME AROUND $1000 TO REPLACE. I COULDN'T AFFORD THAT AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS BACK THEN. ALSO THE CAR WOULD START TO SHAKE WHEN I WOULD PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL AN GO FROM 10 TO 20 TO 30 MILES. THE MONITOR GAUGES WOULD MOVE BY ITSELF WHILE DRIVING. THERE WAS ALSO A SOUND COMING FROM THE GEAR BOX AS IF THE CAR WAS CHANGING GEARS BY ITSELF. BROUGHT TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHICH DIDN'T CHARGE ME TO DIAGNOSE AND HE SAID BESIDE POWER STEERING THE CARS COMPUTER MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THAT WOULD COST ME ANOTHER $1000. I DECIDED TO STOP DRIVING THE CAR ALTOGETHER AFRAID I WOULD GET INTO AN ACCIDENT AND COULD AFFORD TO PAY FOR MORE REPAIRS. A YEAR LATER BROUGHT IN THE CAR TO DEALER TO HAVE THE IGNITION SWITCH BE REPLACED WITH THE RECALL AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE POWER STEERING PROBLEMS HAD CONTINUED. THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL ON MY CAR FOR THAT. THEY SAID IF I WANTED THEY WOULD CHARGE ME $119 OR SO TO DIAGNOSE THE CAR AND ANY REPAIRS I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET.
