2005 SATURN ION THE KEY WON'T TURN ON THE CAR EASILY AND THE KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION WHEN TURNING OFF THE CAR. IT CAN TAKE ME UP TO 10-15 MINUTES TO TURN THE CAR ON/OFF. I HAD THIS PROBLEM WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR, MAYBE 2007 AND I PAID APPROX, $800 DOLLARS AT THE SATURN DEALERSHIP TO GET IT FIXED (IGNITION/STEERING COLUMN)ONLY TO GET PAID BACK THE MONEY THROUGH A RECALL. NOW, THE IGNITION AND THE KEY ARE ACTING IN THE SAME MATTER. PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTHS, WITH NO END IN SIGHT. AS A MATTER OF FACT, IT KEEPS GETTING WORSE. *TR
EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE: UPON ENGAGING THE CLUTCH (PRESSING ON THE PEDAL AS USUAL) I HEARD A LOUD POP/CRACK NOISE AND THE PEDAL BECAME VERY LOOSE AND WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR VERY EASILY. DATE/TIME/PLACE OF FAILURE: ON 4-19-2011 AT 9:20 AM WHILE PARKED IN A RESIDENTIAL PARKING LOT. THE FAILURE IS DESCRIBED AS THE CLUTCH PEDAL NOT PROPERLY ENGAGING THE HYDRAULIC CLUTCH DUE TO A BRACKET OR SOME OTHER PART OF THE ASSEMBLY'S BREAKAGE. THIS BRACKET HOLDS A PISTON IN PROPER PLACE TO ACTUATE THE HYDRAULIC CLUTCH AS THE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR. SINCE THE BRACKET IS BROKEN, THE CLUTCH WILL NOT ENGAGE FULLY, IF AT ALL. I HAVE TEMPORARILY PLACED DOUBLE-SIDED FOAM TAPE WHERE THE BRACKET USED TO BE ON THE PEDAL SO THAT THE PISTON ROD CAN REMAIN SOMEWHERE CLOSE TO ITS ORIGINAL MOUNTED POSITION - SO THAT I MAY DRIVE THE VEHICLE. SINCE THE FAILURE, THE TRANSMISSION EXHIBITS A GRINDING NOISE WHEN SHIFTING INTO THIRD GEAR - PRESUMABLY DUE TO THE PARTIAL ENGAGEMENT OF THE CLUTCH. THIS BRACKETS FAILURE PRESENTS A LOSS OF CONTROL SAFETY ISSUE WHICH I FEEL SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER; WHEN COMING TO A STOP EARLIER TODAY, I WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL WHILE COMING TO A STOP - WHICH NEARLY CAUSED A CRASH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER REFUELING AND PULLING OUT THE NOZZLE, THE FILLER NECK CAME COMPLETELY OUT WITH IT. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ENGINE WARNING LAMP WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 108,184.
THE STEERING WHEEL GOT HARD TO TURN BACK AND FORTH. CAR GOT DOES THIS ONCE IN A WHILE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND WITHIN A 5 TO 10 MINUTE TIMEFRAME, THE POWER STEERING WOULD FAIL SPORADICALLY WITH AN ILLUMINATION OF THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT AFTER THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER NOR WAS IT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 25,000.
POWER STEERING MESSAGE COMES ON AND CAR IS VERY HARD TO STEER. IF I STOP AND RESTART THE CAR THE POWER STEERING COMES BACK. AT FIRST THIS HAPPENED ONCE EVERY FEW WEEKS. NOW IT IS BECOMING A DAILY OCCURRENCE; EVEN MORE THAN ONCE PER DAY. IT APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR SATURN IONS. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP THAT INHERITED SATURNS TOLD ME THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE NOT TAKEN THE CAR TO BE SERVICED YET. *TR
I OWN A 2005 SATURN ION AND WHEN ITS COLD, CAR WON'T START. THE PASSLOCK ILLUMINATES AND SOMETIMES TAKES 30 MINUTES TO RESTART. I HAVE SPENT OVER $700 TRYING TO FIX IT LIKE CHANGING IGNITION AND STARTER AND THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. I HAVE BEEN LATE NUMEROUS TIMES FOR WORK AND WAS STRANDED THE OTHER NIGHT FOR 30 MINUTES IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE IN MINUS 20 DEGREE WEATHER. ( THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE.) I AM FED UP AND CAN'T BELIEVE THERE IS NO RECALL. *TR
2005 SATURN ION .88 K MILES.SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING. FUSES REPLACED. RESETS ITSELF WITH RESTART BUT RECURS FREQUENTLY. VERY HARD TO STEER AND DANGEROUS WHEN OCCURS UNEXPECTEDLY. NO AIRBAGS CAME OUT OF A INBACK ON PASSENGER DOOR OR ANYWHERE IN THE CAR. *TR
PASSLOCK LIGHT BLINKING VEHICLE WILL NOT START IN AMBIENT TEMPERATURE BELOW 30 F REPRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE EGRESS IS NEEDED FROM AREA. *TR
TRAVELING APPROX. 65 MPH INSTRUMENT PANEL *DINGED* THE PWR STR* CAME UPON THE PANEL. AT THAT TIME I LOST POWER STEERING WHILE TRAVELING FULL SPEED AND HAD A HARD TIME PULLING OFF THE EXIT. ONCE OFF THE EXIT CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED AND BEGAN TO OPERATE PROPERLY. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES WITHIN 2 HOURS.
THE POWER STEERING ON THIS CAR REPEATEDLY FAILS. AS SOON AS YOU START THE CAR THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON MAKING IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER THE CAR. *KB
LEFT TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT WORK EVEN WITH NEW BULB. *TR
VEHICLE WILL START INTERMITTENTLY ON COLD AND/OR DAMP MORNINGS. ONLINE RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THE CAUSE TO BE A DEFECTIVE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM; A COMPONENT OF THE FACTORY-INSTALLED ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM), CONFIRMED BY AN EXPERIENCED AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN. SAID TECHNICIAN HAS STATED TO COMPLAINANT THAT VEHICLE MAY BE SUBJECT TO RECALL DUE TO DEFECTIVE BCM; HOWEVER, ACCORDING TO NHTSA, THIS VEHICLE IS UNDER RECALL ONLY FOR EXTERIOR LIGHTING ISSUES (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID #09E012000). COMPLAINANT REQUESTS DETAILED RECALL INFORMATION FOR THIS SPECIFIC PART (BCM), FOR THIS SPECIFIC MAKE AND MODEL OF VEHICLE (LISTED ABOVE). IF NO SUCH RECALL EXISTS, COMPLAINANT REQUESTS A RECALL BE INITIATED.
MY GIRLFRIEND AND I WERE IN AN AUTOMILE ACCIDENT BY HITTING A DEER HEAD ON THEN LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND HITTING AND EMBANKMENT HEAD ON. WE HIT THE EMBANKMENT SO HARD THAT THE 2005 SATURN ION BOUNCED BACK OFF AND ENDED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED AND THE SEAT BELT NEVER CAUGHT RESULTING MY GIRLFRIEND TO BE INJURED BY THE STEERING WHEEL WITH LACERATIONS TO HER CHIN AND HER TEETH WENT THROUGH THE BACK OF HER LIP AND ALSO NECK AND BACK INJURIES FROM THE HARD IMPACT. THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOTALED THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE FRONT FRAME AND UNDERNEATH DAMAGE IT CAUSE. SHE HIT SO HARD THAT THE WHOLE FRONT END WAS PUSHED INTO THE MOTOR AND THE MOTOR WAS PUSHED BACK INTO THE FIREWALL. *TR
2005 SATURN ION I POWER STEERING RECALL I HAD THE RECALL NOTICE - CALLED SATURN OF COOL SPRINGS - AND THEY POINT BLANK ASKED "IS IT DOING IT NOW" I SAID "NO" AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS "DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT". ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK, A LIGHT (A WARNING LIGHT) CAME ON MY DASH, THEY NEXT THING I KNOW THE STEERING JERKED AND I CROSSED OVER 5 LANES OF TRAFFIC DURING RUSH HOUR AND HIT A CONCRETE WALL HEAD ON. I COULD NOT CONTROL THE STEERING AS IT WAS LOCKED. GM STATES THE RECALL IS FOR ONLY GOING AT LOW RATES OF SPEED - I THINK THAT IS A COP OUT FROM GM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START DURING COLD TEMPERATURES. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
2005 SATURN ION POWER STEERING GOES OUT RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. VERY DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY DEADLY. *TR
PASSLOCK MALFUNCTION DUE TO FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH CAUSES NO CRANK AND ACTIVATION OF 10 MINUTE RELEARN SEQUENCE. ONLY HAPPENS WHEN TEMPERATURES ARE BELOW 40 DEGREES. HAS ALWAYS HAPPENED EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR JANUARY 3RD, 2009. FREQUENCY OF OCCURRENCE HAS INCREASED, AND I'M SCARED THAT IT WILL CAUSE A CRASH IF I HAPPEN TO STALL IN TRAFFIC. THE REMEDY TO THIS SITUATION HAS BEEN DISCUSSED IN NUMEROUS TECHNICAL FORUMS ON THE INTERNET - ALL OF WHICH POINT TO REPLACEMENT OF THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE CAUSE IS THOUGHT TO BE EXCESSIVE GREASE APPLIED TO THE INTERNALS OF THE SWITCH. I THINK GM SHOULD RECALL THE AFFECTED UNITS EXHIBITING THIS PROBLEM AND PROVIDE NO COST REPLACEMENT OF THE IGNITION SWITCH. THIS IS NOT A NEW PROBLEM. THOUSANDS OF OWNERS HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THIS AGGRAVATING AND SOMETIMES DANGEROUS TECHNICAL FAULT. GM IS IGNORING THE ISSUE AND OFFERING SATURN OWNERS ABSOLUTELY NO ASSISTANCE TO CORRECT THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM. IF GM DOES NOT ACT, THE LAW OF AVERAGES SAYS THAT EVENTUALLY SOMEONE MAY BE INJURED OR KILLED AS A RESULT OF THIS MALFUNCTION. PLEASE HELP US. THIS ISN'T FAIR AT ALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING BECAME INOPERATIVE AND THE WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT SHE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE MOTOR KIT AND THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2005 SATURN ION THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. AFTER I STOPPED AND CHECKED THINGS UNDER THE HOOD I RESTARTED THE CAR THEN THE POWER STEERING WAS WORKING AGAIN. A FEW MINUTES LATER THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN. *TR
2005 SATURN ION 2 COUPE, POWER STEERING GOES OUT ACCOMPANIED WITH A CHIME AND A PWR STR WARNING ON DASH. RESETS AFTER CAR IS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. PROBLEM RECURS SHORTLY AFTER RESET. DTC CODE C0475 .THERE IS A RECALL ON CHEVY COBALT FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM BUT NOT ON THIS CAR, FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THEY ARE ACCENTUALLY THE SAME CAR. PART # ON THE POWER STEERING MOTOR IS 995-10800 WHICH IS THE PART # FOR A COBALT POWER STEERING MOTOR. GM SAYS THERE IS SPECIAL COVERAGE ON THIS ISSUE BUT ONLY IF IT FAILS. NO RECALL ? I WILL BE INSTALLING A NEW MOTOR PART # 19257875 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF; THE KEY HAS TO BE SHAKEN SEVERAL TIMES IN ORDER TO RELEASE THE KEY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO START THE VEHICLE MORE OFTEN WHEN THE WEATHER WAS COLD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 46,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD NOT COMPLETELY TURN OFF, WHICH PREVENTED HIM FROM REMOVING THE KEY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE IGNITION CYLINDER WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,159.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.
POWER STEERING MESSAGE COMES UP ON MY 2005 SATURN ION 3-- I WAS DRIVING AND IT ALL OF A SUDDEN BECAME VERY HARD TO TURN THE WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT-- I HAVE REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR AND IT STILL DOESN'T WORK AND NOW THEY TELL ME I MAY HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE POWER STEERING COLUMN- GM EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 10 YRS OR 100,000 MILES WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST -WELL I HAVE 5 YEARS WITH MY COMPANY AND I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW AND I HAVE OBVIOUSLY GONE HIGHER THAN THE 100,000 MILES AND NOW GM WILL NOT COVER THE EXPENSES.. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL FOR THIS DEFECTIVE POWERSTEERING ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 SATURN ION WHICH IS NOW OVER 100,00K MILES. THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY WENT OUT WITH NO WARNING SIGNALS ON DASHBOARD. THERE IS NO FLUID RESERVOIR TO PUT THE FLUID AND THE CAR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE OF MILEAGE. I TRIED TURNING THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN AND STILL NO LUCK. AFTER READING UP ON THE SATURN ISSUE, I LEARNED THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHERS WITH DIFFERENT MAKES AND YEAR OF THE SAME MODEL HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. I HAVE NO MONEY TO REPAIR THIS VEHICLE AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF SATURN (GM) IS GOING TO DO A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. IT COST OVER $900.00 TO FIX THIS ISSUE. I HAVE TRIED CONTACTING SATURN DEALERS BUT OF COURSE THE COMPANY HAS BEEN SOLD. I HAVE CONTACTED A GM DEALERS REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY JUST TRY TO REPAIR THE ISSUE THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO HELP WITH WARRANTY ISSUES. *TR
I WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT 7/5/2010, IN A 2005 SATURN ION, WHEN THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON, AND POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. NOW, IT HAPPENS ALMOST CONSTANTLY, THE POWER STEERING KEEPS GOING OUT, IT HAPPENED 10 TIMES JUST TODAY 7/7/2010. EVERY TIME, I HAVE PULLED OVER SHUT THE CAR OFF AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES, BEFORE RESTARTING CAR AND CONTINUING, JUST AS THE TSB FROM GM ADVISES. THE CAR ONLY HAS 50,000 MILES, AND YET THE POWER STEERING IS OUT ON IT. GM HAS ISSUED A RECALL FOR CHEVROLET COBALTS, PONTIAC G5, ETC, FOR THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING, YET HAVE NOT FOR SATURN IONS, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE NEARLY THE SAME VEHICLE, AND HAVE THE SAME PARTS AND PROBLEMS. *TR
KEY BECOMES STUCK IN THE ACCESSORY POSITION AFTER TURNING VEHICLE OFF, APPROXIMATELY 90% OF THE TIME I DRIVE IT. WHEN THIS OCCURS, I HAVE TWO OPTIONS: ALLOW THE BATTERY TO BE DRAINED AND JUMPSTART THE NEXT TIME I USE MY CAR, OR ATTEMPT TO LOCATE THE MANUAL RELEASE INSIDE THE STEERING COLUMN. I'VE HAD THE RECALL MAINTENANCE DONE ON MY CAR, AND IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. GM TOLD ME THAT I WOULD NEED TO HAVE THE GEAR SHIFTER ASSEMBLY REPLACED (COST TO BE PAID BY ME). IN THE MEANTIME, THEY SUGGESTED THAT I CONTINUE TO RELEASE THE KEY MANUALLY. EVERY TIME I USE MY CAR, I FEEL UNSAFE - I AM PUTTING MYSELF AT RISK OF ELECTROCUTION CONSTANTLY, WHETHER BY JUMPSTARTING THE DEAD BATTERY OR MANIPULATING THE WIRES UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN. GM IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND TAKING NO STEPS TO FIX IT, MUCH LIKE THE OTHER IGNITION/POWER STEERING PROBLEMS THEY WILLINGLY IGNORED. *TR
MY POWER STEERING UNIT ON MY 2005 SATURN ION 3 (WITH ONLY 37,345 MILES ON IT) WENT OUT WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY ALMOST CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
NO FAILURE YET. ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ON MY 2005 SATURN ION. *TR
THE IGNITION ON THE 2005 SATURN ION WILL LOCK WITH THE VEHICLE IN THE "ON" POSITION. THE ONLY WAY TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF IS TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY, EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS STILL RUNNING. I HAVE HAD THE IGNITION COMPONENTS REPLACED 3 TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF, AND STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT TWICE TODAY ON MY 2005 SATURN ION QUAD COUPE. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET IT HOME WITH NO PROBLEMS WILL BE TAKING IT INTO THE SHOP IN THE MORNING. ACCORDING TO WHAT I HAVE FOUND ON THE INTERNET I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THE PROBLEM AND IT IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE RECALL NOTICE THAT GM FOR THE PONTIAC G5 AND THE CHEVY COBALT. WHAT GIVES? THE SATURN IONS SHOULD BE RECALLED AS WELL IMMEDIATELY!!!!! *TR
I OWN A 2005 SATURN ION. THE KEY CONTINUES TO GET STUCK IN THE IGNITION. 3 DIFFERENT TIMES NOW. I HAVE A BOAT LOAD OF PAPER WORK FROM DIFFERENT SHOPS, FROM THEM FIXING (?) MY CAR, STARTING WITH SATURN, THAN I HAD TO GO TO THE GMC DEALERSHIP, DUE TO SATURN BEING CLOSED. ALSO, THE CAR HAS STALLED 3 TIMES WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. IT'S AN AUTOMATIC. I WENT ON LINE TO ASK A SATURN MECHANIC WHAT CAN I DO TO GET THIS FIXED, AND BASICALLY NOTHING. HE SAID THERE WOULD NOT BE A RECALL DUE TO SATURN BEING CLOSED NOW, AND IT'S NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO IF I'M UNABLE TO GET IT TO A GMC DEALERSHIP, UNLESS THERE IS ONE OPEN 24/7 IN THE DENVER AREA. I'M AT MY WHITS END. I WAS JUST DRIVING AND I HEARD A CLICK AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THIS HAPPENS ABOUT 3 OR 4 MINUTES AFTER I START DRIVING EVERY TIME I START THE CAR. HEARD IT COSTS ANY WHERE FROM $500- $1000 TO FIX. HAVE ALSO FOUND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY AND WOULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO BECOME ALMOST UNCONTROLLABLE WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE POWER STEERING LIGHT TURNED ON. SUDDENLY I WAS STRUGGLING WITH THE STEERING WHEEL TO MAKE THE CAR TURN TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY. IT WAS REALLY HARD UP UNTIL I TURNED IT OFF. I TURNED IT ON AGAIN AND IT WORKED. LATER THIS HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE GOING TO WORK, THEN COMING BACK TO WORK. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN EVERY OTHER DAY NOW FOR THE PAST WEEK. THERE IS APPARENTLY NO PARTS THAT I CAN CHANGE FOR IT. AND BECAUSE SATURN IONS USE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING, IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO ADD STEERING FLUID SINCE THERE IS NO RESERVOIR. IT SEEMS TO BE A DANGEROUS ELECTRONIC DEFECT A LOT OF SATURN ION OWNERS ARE HAVING. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 91,400.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROADWAY AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. WHEN RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE HAD REGAINED POWER STEERING CAPABILITIES AND RESUMED THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE NO LONGER ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO ADDITIONAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIRS FACILITY WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 74,000.
I HAVE A 2005 SATURN ION, 2.2 L. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT HAS GONE ON JULY16 - JULY 18 AND LOST POWER STEERING 5 DIFFERENT TIMES. I HAVE DIFFICULT MAKING ANY KIND OF TURN THEN. I HAVE TO PULL OVER SOMEWHERE SAFE, STOP THE CAR, WAIT A MINUTE OR TWO AND START THE CAR UP AGAIN. THE POWER STEERING IS THEN FINE AGAIN. I OWN A 2005 SATURN ION. I HAVE 3 MORE PAYMENTS LEFT ON IT. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY ON 7/16/10 AND MY PWR STR LIGHT CAME ON THE DISPLAY. I IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER STEERING. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ON THE WEB AND IT APPEARS THAT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE. APPARENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL ON 3 OR 4 OTHER GM MODELS OF CARS THAT HAVE THE SAME "POWER STEERING MOTOR" HOWEVER, THE SATURN DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE ONE OF THEM. *TR
THERE IS CURRENTLY AN ACTIVE RECALL OUT FOR THE 2005 ' 2010 CHEVROLET COBALT TO REPLACE THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR. THE CHEVY COBALT AND THE SATURN ION ARE EXTREMELY SIMILAR VEHICLES AND HAVE THE SAME MOTOR. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE MINE REPLACED AT MY OWN COST. I APPROACHED SATURN CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY STATED THAT SINCE SATURN IS NO LONGER IN BUSINESS, GENERAL MOTORS WILL NOT BE DOING A RECALL. THIS PROBLEM IS PROLIFIC THAT MY MECHANIC HAD TO HAVE A MOTOR SENT BY FEDERAL EXPRESS FROM DALLAS BECAUSE THERE WERE NO MOTORS IN HOUSTON DUE TO THE RECALL OF THE CHEVY COBALT. *TR
THE KEY STICKS IN THE IGNITION WHENEVER I TRY TO TURN THE CAR OFF. IT TAKES AWHILE BEFORE I AM ABLE TO GET IT OUT, CAUSING THE BATTERY TO DRAIN. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY BATTERY ALREADY. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE THAT AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH A VERY COMMON ISSUE FOR ION OWNERS. WITH IT BEING SO COMMON I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN DONE. I COULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED SOMEWHERE BECAUSE OF THIS. *TR
DURING MY NORMAL COMMUTE 18 MILES, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON AND THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT. THE ISSUE IS INTERMITTENT AND THE POWER STEERING WORKS AGAIN AFTER THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON. THE PROBLEM OCCURS EACH DRIVE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING I HEARD A BELL GO OFF IN THE DASH AND THEN LOST CONTROL OF MY STEERING WHEEL AND ALMOST CRASHED BECAUSE I COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL. I COASTED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHERE I NOTICED A LIGHT WHICH WAS ON "POWER STEERING". SO I ATTEMPTED TO GET BACK ON THE ROAD TO DRIVE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE IN THIS CONDITION.

THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 67000.

THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST MODULE WAS FAILING AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 139,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 141,000.
