[Wednesday 4:11 PM] Rosales, Denise CTR (NHTSA) The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Vue. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to engage in hybrid mode the morning after being purchased. In addition, the vehicle failed to start and maintain battery power. The vehicle was towed to 2 different independent mechanics and 1 independent mechanic who came to the residence where it was diagnosed that the vehicle did not have hybrid functions possibly due to the battery failing to maintain power. The contact stated the battery was replaced however the failures remained present. An appointment with the dealer was scheduled to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 66,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Vue. The contact stated that upon taking the vehicle for a state inspection, the contact was told that the front engine cradle mounts were severely corroded. The contact was also informed that the corrosion was so severe that the part could not be replaced. The dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. ENGINE MAKES A LOT OF NOISE WHEN STARTING UP AND WHILE DRIVING,ALSO THE GAS GAGE DON'T REGISTER
MY IGNITION CYLINDER NEEDS REPLACED. MY KEYS ARE COMING OUT OF THE IGNITION WITH THE CAR STILL ON, DOES NOT MATTER WHETHER IN PARK OR NOT, MY KEY WILL SLIDE OUT. SO NOW I HAVE TO GET THIS FIXED BUT WHILE I WAIT TO HAVE IT FIXED, I HAVE TO ALWAYS MAKE SURE MY CAR IS IN PARK OR AN ACCIDENT COULD HAPPEN. *TR
WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, THE TIMING CHAIN TENSION SLIPPED AND BROKE. THIS CAUSED BROKEN ROCKER ARMS AND INTERNAL ENGINE DAMAGE. THE RESULT IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE! AT A COST OF $5,000 THIS LEAVES ME IN A DILEMMA, SHOULD I JUNK THE CAR (WHICH I BOUGHT 1 1/2 YEARS AGO FOR $7,500) AND PUT THE $5,000 TOWARD A NEW USED CAR. I NOTICED THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT FAILURE FOR SATURN VUE, BUT NOT FOR MY MODEL YEAR. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. MECHANIC ADVISED I NEEDED A NEW BATTERY. PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON. MY HYBRID SYSTEM IS NOT KICKING IN. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND READ RECALLS ON THIS CAR FOR THIS YEAR WITH THIS PROBLEM, HOWEVER MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT BEING RECOGNIZED AS ONE OF THE VEHICLES DEFECTED. PLEASE HELP ME GET THIS FIXED. ITS A DOCUMENTED PROBLEM AND MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED ON THE RECALL LIST TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED. *TR
I WENT OUTSIDE ON A COLD MORNING AND ATTEMPTED TO CRANK MY 2007 SATURN VUE. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. I HAD IT TOWED INTO A SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TIMING CHAIN SNAPPED WHICH CAUSED ENGINE FAILURE. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER SHOP FOR A SECOND OPINION AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING AND THAT IT WOULD COST OVER $5,000 TO REPAIR IT. I'VE DONE RESEARCH SINCE THEN AND APPARENTLY GM HAS HAD THIS ISSUE WITH SATURN VUES BEFORE. TIMING CHAINS ARE NOT DESIGNED TO WEAR OUT, PARTICULARLY NOT AT UNDER 100K MILES. MY VEHICLE WAS WELL MAINTAINED. I HAD NO PRIOR INDICATION THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ANYTHING. IT I HAD BEEN DRIVING WHEN IT SNAPPED IT COULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS OR FATAL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND GM SHOULD TAKE MEASURES TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS ISSUED ON SATURN VUES WITH SIMILAR ISSUES IN THE PAST, BUT CLEARLY THE RECALLS NEED TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE THE 2007 MODEL YEAR AND ANY OTHER YEARS AFFECTED. THANK YOU. *TR

I DON'T KNOW IF THIS COULD REALLY BE CONSIDERED AS A COMPLAINT,I WAS JUST CONCERNED ABOUT IT AND WANTED TO LET SOMEONE KNOW ABOUT IT OR SEE IF IT NEEDED TO BE INVESTIGATED. I HAVE A 2007 SATURN VUE AWD V-6,AND HAD WASHED OFF THE ENGINE OF GRIME AND THEN DROVE IT ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER,NORMALLY WHEN I'VE USED THE A/C BEFORE I ALWAYS HAD COLD AIR BLOWING OUT OF THE VENTS,FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON AFTER I HAD WASHED OFF THE ENGINE AND TURNED ON THE A/C I HAD NO COLD AIR TO COME OUT OF THE VENTS,BUT WHEN I ADJUSTED THE KNOB FOR THE DEFROSTER TO WORK,I HAD COLD AIR,BUT IF I SWITCHED THE KNOB BACK TO THE VENTS,THERE WOULD BE NO COLD AIR,SO I JUST PUT UP WITH IT THAT DAY. AFTER I GOT HOME,I LET THE CAR JUST SIT IN THE CARPORT FOR ABOUT 4 DAY'S BEFORE I DROVE IT AGAIN,AND OUT OF CURIOSITY I TURNED THE A/C ON,IT WAS ON THE VENT SETTING,AND THE AIR THAT WAS BEING BLOWN WAS COLD AGAIN,THE ONLY THING I CAN FIGURE IS,THAT WHEN I WASHED THE ENGINE OFF I GOT SOME KIND OF SWITCH WET,AND WITH THE CAR JUST SITTING FOR SEVERAL DAY'S AND THE SUN'S HEAT DRIED OUT THAT SWITCH,LETTING THE COLD AIR VENT TO BLOW OUT COLD AIR AGAIN.IT WASN'T A BIG PROBLEM,BUT IT SURE WAS UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING THAT DAY.THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IT'S EVER HAPPENED,I'M ASSUMING THAT EVEN THOUGH WHEN YOU DRIVE AND IT'S RAINING THE WATER FROM THE WHEEL WELLS CAN'T REACH THAT SPOT OR SWITCH,BUT IF YOU PUT WATER ON IT FROM ABOVE,IT PROBABLY WILL CAUSE THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM,YOUR GUESS WOULD BE AS GOOD AS MINE,BUT THAT'S ALL I CAN FIGURE THAT MIGHT OF HAPPENED,AT LEAST I HAVE COLD AIR BLOWING NOW!!! I HEARD A RUMBLING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 150 MILES, THE NOISE BECAME NOTICEABLY WORSE. I WENT TO THE SATURN DEALERSHIP AND HAD THE PROBLEM CHECKED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE TENSIONER ON THE SERPENTINE BELT HAD 'DISINTEGRATED' AND WAS ON THE VERGE OF FAILURE. *TR
PURCHASED NEW VUE HYBRID GREEN LINE 5/31/07. PROBLEMS WITH IGNITION STICKING WAS REPLACED TWICE, STILL AN ISSUE. MAIN AND MAJOR PROBLEM: ON 3/13/08 IN FOR SERVICE DUE TO ENGINE SHUTTING OFF AND RESTARTING ITSELF. CODES P1A6F; P1A5A; P1A56, BULLETIN 07-06-03-006A SUSPECTED BATTERY CORROSION. ORDERED NEW BATTERY, I WAS GIVEN CAR TO DRIVE FOR 7 DAYS UNTIL BATTERY RECEIVED AND REPLACED AT THAT TIME. THE SAME ISSUE OF STOP/RESTARTING ENGINE OCCURING AGAIN IN FOR SERVICE ON 9/02/08, BULLETIN PIP 4009 . PCM CALIBRATION RECALIBRATED ECM WITH NEWEST CAL., SERVICE STATED DRIVING OK. AGAIN IN FOR SAME ISSUE OF ENGINE STOP/RESTARTING ITSELF ON 10/23/08 WITH NO RESOLVE. AGAIN IN FOR SAME ISSUE ON 1/28/09, CODE P1174, REPLACED INJECTORS 1 & 2. FOUND CODE P1A6F. SERVICE TECH CLEARED CODES, STATED WORKING FINE. IN AGAIN FOR STOP/RESTART OF ENGINE ON 02/05/09. WAITING TO HEAR FROM SERVICE. *TR
STARTED HEARING A NOISE THAT I ASSUMED WAS A ROCK IN MY BRAKES. IT TURNED INTO A CHIRPING NOISE FOR A COUPLE DAYS, WHICH THEN TURNED INTO AN AWFUL SQUEALING NOISE WHEN I STARTED IT. I CALLED SATURN FOR AN APPOINTMENT AND HAD TO WAIT 2 DAYS TO GET IN. THEY TOLD ME THE BEARINGS WERE GOING OUT ON MY AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER THE PART. NOW IT SEEMS THERE IS NO PART AVAILABLE AND THEY WILL HAVE TO MAKE ONE SPECIAL FOR MY CAR - WHICH MEANS I'M IN A RENTAL CAR FOR A MINIMUM OF 3 WEEKS - OR SO THEY THINK. MY LAST SATURN WAS IN THE SHOP FOR 32 DAYS LESS THAN A YEAR AGO. *TR

WHENEVER SHE APPROACHES A STOP OR DECELERATES AT 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE FEELS AS IF IT WILL STALL AND THE BRAKE PEDAL MUST BE DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE HAS SHUT OFF ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND THE CONTACT HAD TO SHIFT THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL AND RESTART THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO DIFFERENT DEALERS AND THEY STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD EITHER BE THE BATTERY OR THE SPARK PLUGS. BOTH HAVE BEEN REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,140 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,000.

ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. THE LOW POWER, TRACTION CONTROL, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WAS A LOOSE WIRE IN THE IGNITION MODULE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1342. THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN , AND ALL OF THE WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALERWAS CURRENTLY DIAGNOSING THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 935, AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1400. *AK
