DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY IN A COLLISION THAT OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC. ANOTHER VEHICLE RAN INTO THE BACK OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE DRIVING 25 MPH. THE SEAT BELT WAS WORN AND THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE CRASH. THERE WERE INJURIES TO THE CONTACT'S BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED TOTALED. UPDATED 07/31/06 *JB
I TOOK MY 2005 SCION TC TO DEALER TO HAVE A ROUTINE WARRANTY OIL CHANGE. TECH TOLD ME THAT POWER STEERING FLUID WAS COMPLETELY BLACK. WHEN PRESSED FOR AN EXPLANATION, I WAS TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL WEAR (EVEN AT ONLY 25,000 MI). I HAD THE FLUID REPLACED FOR A HEFTY FEE, BUT CALLED TO SPEAK W/ A SERVICE MANAGER AND WAS AGAIN TOLD THAT THIS IS A NORMAL WEAR ISSUE "FOR ALL TOYOTA'S" AND WAS ASSURED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE STEERING SYSTEM. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEING "NORMAL" AS THIS IS A CONTAINED SYSTEM. ANOTHER FRIEND MECHANIC SAID IT SOUNDS AS THOUGH SOMETHING WITHIN THE SYSTEM IS CORRODING OR WEARING (POSSIBLY METAL CHIPS OR WEARING OF BLACK RUBBER HOSES). I AM IN THE PROCESS OF WRITING A LETTER TO TOYOTA/SCION HEADQUARTERS, AS I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND A REASONABLE EXPLANATION OR A SERVICE BULLETIN AND MY WARRANTY WILL BE UP IN ANOTHER 5000 MILES. I DON'T WANT TO FIND OUT SOMETHING IS WRONG IN A COUPLE YEARS, BUT BE OUT OF WARRANTY BY THEN. IF YOU'VE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM, PLEASE MAKE A FORMAL COMPLAINT! *JB
I NOTICED THAT THE FRONT RIGHT BRAKE WAS WEARING FASTER THEN THE LEFT BECAUSE OF AN INCREASE IN BRAKE DUST ON THAT RIM. I TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND IT WAS JUST WEAR AND TEAR. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE CAR FOR ANOTHER 1000 MILES OR SO AND THEN I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WOULD MAKE FUNNY NOISES AND SHAKE AND ALSO HAVE A HARDER TIME STOPPING FROM HIGHWAY SPEEDS. SO I TOOK THE CAR INTO ANOTHER DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE CAR HAD A FAULTY, STICKING CALIPER AND THAT THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *NM
TIRE SIDEWALL SEPARATION ON REAR TIRE, PASSENGER SIDE, WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY. REPORTED TO DEALER AND TIRE MANUFACTURER. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 55-70 MPH THE SUNROOF SHATTERED. THE SUNROOF WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE CONTACT IS UNAWARE OF AN OBJECT HITTING THE SUNROOF. THE VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. EMAIL REPLY ON MAY 19, 2006 SHOWS (PICTURES) THAT IT WAS THE SUN/MOON ROOF (NOT THE WIND DEFLECTOR) THAT SHATTERED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 20MPH ON FEBRUARY 27, 2006 THE BRAKES PULSATED AND THERE WAS A RATTLING NOISE PRESENT. THE BRAKE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SLIDE OFF THE ROAD. THERE WAS 15,040 MILES ON THE VEHICLE WHEN IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE SECOND TIME THE BRAKES FAILED WAS ON MARCH 3, 2006. WHILE DRIVING 65MPH THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD NOT DEPRESS. THERE WAS 15,200 MILES ON THE VEHICLE WHEN IT WAS TOWED IN THE SECOND TIME TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AGAIN, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE COMPUTER HAD RESET ITSELF. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SCION TC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER, SEAT BELTS, AND AIR BAG COVER HAVE FAILURES. THE SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT LATCH WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND WAS REPAIRED. CURRENTLY, THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT IS EXPERIENCING DIFFICULTY DISCONNECTING FROM THE LATCH. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE E CLIP FAILED IN THE AIR BAG COVER. THE COVER WAS REPAIRED, WHICH ONLY LASTED A FEW MONTHS BEFORE FAILING AGAIN. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER APPROXIMATELY FOUR TIMES FOR THESE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,997 AND CURRENT MILEAGE IS 38,000. UPDATED 03/09/09. *LJ THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM FAILED TO ALERT THE CONSUMER SHE HAD A SIDEWALL BLOWOUT. UPDATED 03/11/09. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, IT STARTED SMOKING FROM UNDER THE HOOD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE NEAR THE WINDSHIELD. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND FILED A FIRE REPORT. THE FIRE MARSHAL DETERMINED THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS A DEFECT IN THE FUEL LINE. THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER WERE ALERTED. WHILE DRIVING MY 2005 SCION TC ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, I HEARD A LOUD POP. AFTER THE POP I HEARD GLASS SHATTERING AND FLYING OFF THE TOP OF THE CAR. THE ONLY THING PROTECTING ME FROM SHATTERING GLASS WAS THE SUN SHADE. YET, ALMOST IMMEDIATELY GLASS STARTED COMING THROUGH THE VENT HOLES ON THE SUN SHADE AND FALLING DOWN ON MY HEAD AND FLYING IN FROM THE SIDES. WHEN I STOPPED TO LOOK AT WHAT HAD HAPPENED, IT APPEARED THAT THE TOP SUN ROOF HAD EXPLODED. NOTHING HAD HIT THE CAR FROM THE OUTSIDE THAT I WAS AWARE OF. I KNOW THAT I WOULD HAVE SEEN IT OR HEARD SOMETHING HIT THE CAR, NOT THE LOUD POP THAT SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION. I LOOKED ON YOUR SITE AND WAS ABLE TO SEE THAT OTHER OWNERS OF SCIONS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM. I AM WAITING ON TOYOTA TO DETERMINE HOW THIS WILL BE FIXED AND IF THEY WILL COVER IT. I WILL FILE A CLAIM AGAINST THEM IF THEY DO NOT, AS I THINK THIS SHOULD BE A WARRANTY ISSUE OR A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE DEALER. I NOTICED ON ONE COMPLAINT THAT THE INDIVIDUAL WAS FORCED TO PAY $900. SUNROOF MAKES A CONTINUOUS RATTLING NOISE SUGGESTING THAT IT IS NOT SITTING IN IT'S ALLOCATED SPACE PROPERLY. THIS NOISE CAN BE HEARD WHILE THE SUNROOF IS OPEN AND ESPECIALLY WHILE IT IS CLOSED. THIS HAPPENS EVERY DAY. *NM
I PULLED INTO MY DRIVE WAY PARKED THE CAR LEFT IT RUNNING SUNROOF WAS OPEN FRONT WINDOWS WERE DOWN. RAN INSIDE TO GRAB SOMETHING HEAR A GLASS EXPLOSION RAN BACK OUT TO FIND MY SUNROOF SPIDER CRACKED OUT AND THE EDGES GONE. LADY THAT WAS WALKING HER DOG SAID THE SUNROOF JUST EXPLODED. THERES NO HOLES NOTHING JUST CRACKS AND GLASS ALL AROUND THE CAR AND INSIDE THE CAR. PAINT IS CHIPPING, WAS INFORMED BY DEALERSHIP THIS IS NORMAL WARE. I LOOK AT OTHER VEHICLES THAT DRIVE THE SAME ROUTES THAT I DO AND DO NOT SEE CHIPS ON THEIR CARS. I WOULD LIKE FOR THIS TO BE INVESTIGATED. THERE SEEM TO BE MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS MATTER. *NM
I WAS CRUISING IN MY 2005 SCION TC AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH ON A SMOOTH ROAD WITH THE MOON ROOF CLOSED. AIR TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE HIGH 90S AND, AS I HAD BEEN DRIVING ABOUT AN HOUR, THE INTERIOR HAD BEEN COOLED BY THE A/C. THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC WITHIN SIGHT EITHER AHEAD OR BEHIND ME AND NO TREES, OVERPASS, ETC., ABOVE. I HEARD A LOUD GUNSHOT-SOUNDING "BANG" AND FOUND, WHEN I PULLED OVER, THAT THE GLASS OF THE FRONT WIND DEFLECTOR OF THE MOONROOF HAD SHATTERED. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF ANY OBJECT IMPACTING THE GLASS. BECAUSE THE MOONROOF HAD BEEN CLOSED, GLASS PARTICLES DID NOT ENTER THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THE MOONROOF WIND DEFLECTOR GLASS WAS REPLACED BY MY LOCAL AUTHORIZED DEALER UNDER WARRANTY (AFTER I CALLED THEIR ATTENTION TO SIMILAR FAILURES OF OTHER VEHICLES); THE FRAGMENTS OF THE OLD GLASS WERE REMOVED AND DISPOSED OF BY THE DEALER. SUBSEQUENT TO THAT, A "SAFETY RECALL NOTICE" (#SSC 50S) WAS RECEIVED FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND A "PROTECTIVE LAMINATE" WAS APPLIED TO PREVENT GLASS FRAGMENTS FROM ENTERING THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT IN THE EVENT A RECURRENCE OF THE FAILURE IS EXPERIENCED WHEN THE MOONROOF IS IN THE OPEN POSITION. CONTRARY TO THIS MANUFACTURER'S RECALL NOTICE, I WAS NOT DRIVING WITH THE MOONROOF OPEN, I WAS NOT DRIVING AT "HIGHWAY SPEEDS" AND THE GLASS WAS NOT IMPACTED BY ROAD DEBRIS. I FEEL THERE IS A FLAW IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS OF THE GLASS USED IN THE TC'S MOONROOF. *NM
I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 SCION TC ON THE FREEWAY WITH THE SUNROOF CLOSED. I HEARD A LOUD BREAKING SOUND AND SAW GLASS FLY ONTO THE FREEWAY FROM MY CAR. I PULLED OFF THE FREEWAY AND NOTICED THAT THE GLASS FROM THE DEFLECTOR OF THE SUNROOF HAD SHATTERED. THE FREEWAY WAS EMPTY AND NOTHING, NOT EVEN A ROCK, HAD HIT MY CAR. I AM NOT SURE HOW IT HAPPENED- BUT NOW I SEE LOTS OF REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING. I AM JUST LUCKY THAT THIS HAPPENED WHEN MY SUNROOF WAS CLOSED. I WAS ALSO INFORMED BY TOYOTA THAT THIS WOULD COST ME $900 TO FIX. THEY WERE NOT GOING TO COVER IT. I PLAN TO FIGHT THIS AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE DESIGNED TO PERFORM UNDER NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS. IT SOUNDS LIKE FAULTY INSTALLATION TO ME. *NM
EVERY TIME I DRIVE MY CAR THE SUNROOF RATTLES AND IT SOUNDS AS IF THERE IS SHATTERED GLASS IN THERE. I LOOKED AND TRIED TO CLEAN IT ALL OUT BUT I NEVER FOUND ANY BROKEN GLASS. BUT WHEN EVER I GO OVER THE SMALLEST BUMP IT SOUNDS LIKE THE WHOLE SUNROOF IS GOING TO SHATTER. I HAVE READ OTHER REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING AND I THINK THERE MIGHT BE A PROBLEM WITH THE GLASS. *NM
WENT OUT TO CAR IN THE MORNING AND THE SUN/MOON ROOF DEFLECTOR WAS SHATTERED.
MY DAUGHTER MAKING A LEFT TURN WAS STRUCK BY A PICKUP TRUCK. THE DRIVER'S DOOR WAS TORN FROM THE CAR, THE DRIVERS SEAT BELT SHREDDED CAUSING HER TO BE EJECTED FROM THE CAR. THE RESULTING INJURIES CAUSED HER DEATH. 2005 SCION TC. *NM
SCION XB TRUCK HATCH WHILE CLOSING SHEERED MY NOSE WHILE CLOSING . PARMAMEDICS REQUIRED TO STABLIZE ME, AND ER TREATMENT WITH PLASTIC SURGEON FOR TREATMENT.
PITS OR CRACKS IN WINDSHIELD. VEHICLE IS A SCION XB, BUT THERE ISN'T AN OPTION FOR THAT CAR. *NM
I HAVE A 2005 SCION TC, LAST MONDAY I ARRIVED HOME AND AFTER FIVE MINUTES WHILE I WAS BY THE CAR I HEARD A CRACK AND WHEN I LOOK AT THE CAR I SAW THAT THE BACK MOONROOF CRACKED WITHOUT ANY REASON.THE WAY IT CRACKED IT IS VERY WEIRD BECAUSE IT CRACKED ALL THE WAY AROUND AND AFTER THAT OVER THE NIGHT IT START COURVING UPWARD AND IT START FELING IN TO PIECES.
I JUST BOUGHT A SCION TC A MONTH AGO AND WAS SURPRISED BY THE PAINT DINGS CAUSED BY ROCKS. THIS IN ITSELF IS NOT A SURPRISE, BUT THERE IS ONLY ONE LAYER OF PAINT BETWEEN THE TOP OF THE CAR AND THE PRIMER. I HAVE CALLED SCION SUPPORT AND HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THEM TOO. THE DEALERSHIP WAS OF NO HELP SAYING THE ROCK DINGS ARE NORMAL (I KNOW THAT) AND DIDN'T MENTION ANYTHING OF THE QUALITY OF THE PAINT, DEFECT IN THE PAINT, OR DEFECT IN THE PAINTING PROCESS. ANY TYPE OF HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED TO ACTUALLY SEE IF THIS IS A PROBLEM.
PAINT PEELING, CHIPPING, UNDERSURFACE "SCRATCHES" APPEARING IN THE PAINT. IT SEEMS TOYOTA HAS A BAD BATCH OF PAINT ON THIER SCION LINE OF VEHICLES, AS I SEE THAT THERE ARE MANY MORE COMPLAINTS OF PROBLEMS WITH DEFECTS IN THE PAINT.
2005 TOYOTA SCION DEVELOPING A POTENTIAL SEAT PROBLEM. *MR THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH TWO DIFFERENT VEHICLES. BOTH WERE PURCHASED AT THE SAME DEALER. IN BOTH CASES THE VEHICLES WOULD ROLL BACKWARDS. THE SECOND VEHICLE WAS THE CONSUMER'S MOTHER'S VEHICLE IN WHICH THE VEHICLE HAD ROLLED BACKWARD AFTER THE PARKING BRAKE WAS APPLIED AND STRUCK THE GARAGE DOOR OPENER (THIS OCCURRED TWICE AND CAUSED SIGNIFICANT BODY DAMAGE). THE CONSUMER NOTICED WITH HER OWN VEHICLE THAT WITH THE PARKING BRAKE FULLY APPLIED, THE VEHICLE WOULD STILL ROLL BACKWARDS, IF NOT PLACED IN PARK. THE SECOND INCIDENT WITH THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE OCCURRED WHEN PLACED IN NEUTRAL, THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS AS IF THE BRAKES WEREN'T APPLIED. *SC *JB
PURCHASED MY 2005 SCION TC ON JUNE 3RD, 2005 AND NOTICED ON JUNE 4TH WHEN DRIVING THE CAR FOR THE FIRST TIME ON CEMENT HIGHWAYS WITH RAINCHANNEL GROOVES CUT INTO THEM THAT THE TIRES WERE A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD! THE TIRES ARE PIRELLI P-ZERO NERO M/S TIRES, AND HAVE A FIVE RIBBED DESIGN TO THEM THAT HAPPENS TO BE THE SAME PATTERN THAT THE RAINCHANNELS ARE! THE TIRE GROOVES GRAB THE RAINCHANNELS IN THE ROAD AND PULL THE CAR ALL OVER THE ROAD! SOME PLACES I HAVE REFERENCED REFER TO THIS PROBLEM AS TRAMLINING. THIS IS THE MOST SERIOUS I HAVE EVER FELT THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM, AND REPORTED IT IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALERSHIP ON THE FOLLOWING MONDAY JUNE 6TH. THEY AT FIRST CLAIMED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT, SINCE I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR AND HAD TEST DRIVEN IT BEFORE THE PURCHASE. BUT, I HAD NOT DRIVEN IT ON THOSE TYPES OF ROADS! AFTER MY CONTINUAL COMPLAINTS TO OTHERS AT THE DEALERSHIP, ETC., THE DEALERSHIP THEN CONTACTED THE REGIONAL MANAGER FOR SCION AND THEN THE GENERAL MANAGER FOR THE STORE WAS WILLING TO GO AHEAD AND SWITCH THEM FOR A DIFFERENT SET OF TIRES THAT DID NOT HAVE THE SAME TREAD PATTERN. THEY WILL BE COMPLETING THE SWITCH ON JULY 21ST FOR ME...FINALLY! PEOPLE SHOULD BE AWARE THAT THESE PIRELLI TIRES WERE NOT DESIGNED FOR THE RAINCHANNELED ROADS IN THE US! THEY COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT TO HAPPEN!
I HAVE BRIDGESTONE POTENZA P215/45ZR17 TIRES ON MY CAR..THE TIRES DON'T HAVE EVEN 10000 MILES AND I ALREADY HAD TO GET 3 NEW TIRES AND 2 TO BE FIXED... CAUSE OF TWO ARE UNKNOWED ...I THINK IT WAS A POT HOLE IN THE ROAD... REST ARE NAILS IN TIRES... I'M DRIVING ON NORMAL US CITY ROADS. NO DIRT ROADS, NO BEACH DRIVING, NO SNOW DRIVING. AND THE NAILS FIND HOME IN MY TIRES. I UNDERSTAND SOMETIMES NAIL GET IN YOUR TIRE, BUT MOST OF THE TIME YOU DROVE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU SUPPOSE TO NOT BE DRIVING(CONSTRUCTIONS AND STUFF LIKE THIS) BUT MY TIRES ARE POPED BY NORMAL SMALL TO MEDIUM SIZE NAILS ON NORMAL STRAIGHT ROADS... IN MY OPTION THE TIRES ARE MADE OUT OF CHEAP RUBBER WHICH IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO WITHSAND THE NAIL OR OTHER SMALL SHARP OBJECTS.
DT: 2005, TOYOTA, SCION TC, VEHICLE'S SUN ROOF (NOT THE WIND DEFLECTOR) EXPLODED. THERE WAS NO APPARENT CAUSE FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. GLASS SHATTERED ALL OVER CONSUMER AND THE FREEWAY. CONSUMER STATED THAT NOTHING HIT THE SUNROOF FOR IT TO SHATTER, BUT IF EVEN A SMALL ITEM COULD CAUSE THAT EXPLOSIVE TYPE OF DAMAGE, IT SHOULD BE DIFFERENT GLASS. SUNROOF IS REPAIRED BUT CAR PAINT IS SCRATCHED EVERYWHERE AND CONSUMER STILL FIND BITS OF GLASS IN VEHICLE. THE SUNROOF WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME. PHONE INTERVIEW (MAY 19, 2006): DEALER REPRESENTATIVE CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS THE SUN/MOON ROOF THAT SHATTERED.
THE SUNROOF DEFLECTOR BROKE WHILE DRIVING WITH THE SUNROOF OPEN WITH NO APPARENT REASON, TOYOTA INSPECTED AND REPLACED THE BROKEN DEFLECTOR AND EXACTLY SIX DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN THE DEFLECTOR SHATTERED AGAIN ON I-20 TRAVELING AT AROUND 65MPH, JUST ABOVE THE SPEED TRAVELED WHEN THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED
ROCK CHIPS, RUSTING SPOTS, ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 5 MONTHS.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2005 SCION TC I HEARD A LOUD POP AND THE BACK MOON ROOF HAD CRACKED. IT WAS THE SAME TYPE OF NOISE I HEARD WHEN MY FRONT DEFLECTOR SHATTERED. THE MOON ROOF DID NOT CAVE IN WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED IT WAS JUST SPIDER WEB CRACKED THROUGHOUT. BUT ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP PART OF THE MIDDLE ENDED UP CAVING IN. THE DEALERSHIP SAID BECAUSE THE GLASS WAS ANGLED UP IT WAS LIKE SOMETHING FROM INSIDE OR PRESSURE CAUSED IT. IF SOMETHING HAD FALLEN ON IT THE GLASS WOULD HAVE BEEN ANGLED DOWNWARDS. IT WAS REPLACED BUT ONLY AFTER MUCH QUESTIONING BECAUSE THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME IT HAD HAPPENED AND SUPPOSEDLY "I HAVE BEEN THE ONLY ONE TO HAVE HAD THESE PROBLEMS". IN STOP & GO BUMPER-TO-BUMPER TRAFFIC, MY CLIENT TOOK HER FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE OF 2005 TOYOTA SCION XA, AND CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. AFTER CRASH, CLIENT COULD NOT SHIFT CAR FROM DRIVE INTO PARK POSITION.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HESITATES TO SHIFT GEARS EVERYDAY. DEALER STATES THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. THIS STARTED ABOUT A MONTH AGO (11/05). PAINT CHIPS ON FRONT OF VEHICLE AS WELL AS SCRATCHES IN THE PAINT. ONLY DRIVE ON PAVED ROADS AND HIGHWAYS. NOTICED THIS WITHIN THREE MONTHS OF HAVING VEHICLE (05/05). *JB

WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH A SMALL PEBBLE HIT THE WINDSHIELD AND CAUSED IT TO SHATTER. *NM
WHILE DRIVING WITH THE SUN ROOF OPEN, THE FRONT DEFLECTOR OF THE ASSEMBLY SHATTERED, SPRAYING PIECES OF BROKEN GLASS INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT, CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AS I WAS HIT IN THE FACE AND HEAD BY GLASS. I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR AS A PIECE OF GLASS HIT MY SUNGLASS LENS, SAVING ME FROM A POSSIBLE EYE INJURY. THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR WAS LITTERED WITH SHARP, JAGGED PIECES OF GLASS AND THANKFULLY I WAS ALONE IN THE VEHICLE, SAVING A PASSENGER FROM POSSIBLE INJURY. I HAVE YET TO CONTACT A DEALER OR SCION BUT WILL DO SO AFTER THE WEEKEND. I AM AWARE OF OTHER REPORTS AND COMPLAINTS WITH REGARD TO THE SAME THING HAPPING TO OTHERS. SCION OBVIOUSLY ENGINEERED A FRAGILE PIECE OF GLASS DESIGNED TO STAND NEARLY PERPENDICULAR TO THE ROAD WITH THE VEHICLE IN MOTION AND SUN ROOF OPEN. I HAVE RECENTLY NOTICED A POPPING SOUND COMING FROM THE ROOF INDICATING TO ME SOME SORT OF STRESS IN THE STRUCTURE. WHILE NOT INJURED DURING THE INCIDENT, I DID GET CUT CLEANING THE SHARP GLASS FROM THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR. THE VEHICLE I AM REPORTING IS A 2005 SCIN TC. THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY AND A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE HAD COME FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC MAINTAINED THAT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. *AK THE VEHICLE WOULD KNOCK AND SHAKE AFTER BEING STARTED. WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE VEHICLE WOULD RATTLE AND FELT AS IF THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE CONTROLLED DUE TO THE SHAKING OF THE MOTOR. THE MECHANIC FOUND VARIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE AIR HOSE MOUNTS, AIR CLEANING HOUSINGS AND LATER THE MOTOR AND ENGINE MOUNTS NEEDED REPLACEMENT DUE TO WEAKNESS. THE TRANSMISSION MOUNTS AND THE RIGHT SIDE ENGINE MOUNT WERE REMOVED AND REPLACED. *SC
WHILE DRIVING WITH THE SUN ROOF OPEN THE GLASS DEFLECTOR BROKE COVERING THE CONSUMER IN GLASS. THE CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING AT 55 MPH. *JB THE GLASS DIDN'T APPEAR TO BE SAFETY GLASS BECAUSE IT BROKE INTO LARGE SHARP PIECES. THE CONSUMER'S EYE WAS SCRATCHED BY A PIECE OF GLASS. CONSUMER WANT THE MANUFACTURER TO INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM AND CHANGE THE WAY THIS REFLECTOR IS CONSTRUCTED FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL OWNERS. *BF *NM

DT: CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SCION TC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE VEHICLE WAS BEING WARMED UP ON JANUARY 23, 2005 THE WIND DEFLECTOR FOR THE SUN ROOF BROKE. AS HE WAS GETTING SOMETHING FROM THE VEHICLE AND SHUT THE DOOR THE DEFLECTOR BROKE. THE CONTACT STATED UNTIL HE SAW THE INVESTIGATION ARTICLE HE THOUGHT THE BREAKAGE WAS DUE TO THE TEMPERATURE OR SOME OTHER TYPE OF NORMAL CONDITION. THE LOCAL SERVICE DEALER REFERRED THE CONTACT TO A LOCAL GLASS SHOP TO HAVE THE PROBLEM REPAIRED. THERE IS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION OF THIS PROBLEM, , THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION EA05013. THE CONSUMER HAD THE WIND DEFLECTOR REPAIRED. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER.*AK
AFTER JUST FOUR MONTHS THE PAINT IS CHIPPING, FLAKING, SCRATCHING REALLY BAD. *NM
I PURCHASED MY CAR AT THE END OF NOV IN 04, ABOUT A WEEK AFTER I NOTICED A TON OF SCRATCHES ON MY VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND HAD THE GM LOOK AT IT, NO HELP. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD LOOK AT IT. STILL HAS NOT BEEN LOOKED AT AND IT IS NOW JAN OF 05. MY CAR HAS OVER 500 SMALL SCRATCHES AND THE CLEAR COAT IS BUBBLING OFF THE PAINT. I HAVE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH AND FOUND THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE 2005 SCION TC. I WAS TREATED LIKE A COMPLETE MORON AND NO ONE WANTED TO HELP ME AND I WAS DISMISSED OUT THE DOOR.*AK
MY 2005 SCION TC PURCHASED NEW HAD SEVERAL SWIRL MARKS IN THE PAINT I WAS TOLD IT WAS FROM THE PORTER WASHING THE CAR TO DELIVER TO ME. I SAID I REFUSED TO ACCEPT THE CAR WITH THE PAINT LIKE THAT. THEY SAID I COULD BRING IT BACK AND THEY WOULD HAVE IT BUFFED OUT. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THEN THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE PAINT. THIS IS MY 6TH NEW CAR 2ND NEW TOYOTA I HAVE NEVER SEEN PAINT SCRATCH, CHIP AND BUBBLE LIKE THIS NOT TO MENTION ON A NEW CAR. MY BEST FRIEND OWNS BODY SHOP FOR HIGH END CARS AND HAS CARS SHOWN AT THE CONCOURSE LEVEL HE SAID THAT THE PROBLEM IS INSUFFICIENT LAYERS OF PAINT AND POOR QUALITY CLEAR COAT. MY CAR IS WASHED ONLY BY HAND WITH THE BEST AVAILABLE PRODUCTS AND WAXED THE SAME WAY. I LIVE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SEVERAL MILES FROM THE BEACH DRIVE ON CITY AND FREEWAY ROADS THERE IS NOTHING IN MY DRIVING HABITS THAT WOULD CAUSE THE AMOUNT OF PAINT DAMAGE I AM EXPERIENCING. I EVEN PICKED MY CAR UP FROM BEING SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THERE WERE MANY SCRATCHES DOWN TO THE METAL AND THE DEALERSHIP WON'T ACKNOWLEDGE THEM. I AM ON THE PHONE WITH SCION CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH OVER THIS CAR. THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS FILED WITH THE NHTSA FOR PAINT ISSUES, THIS PROBLEM WILL NEVER BE A SAFETY ISSUE BUT IT IS AN ISSUE AND I DON'T KNOW WHO ELSE TO CONTACT THAT HAS THE ABILITY TO MAKE THE MANUFACTURE/DEALERSHIP CORRECT THIS FOR ALL THE CURRENT OWNERS AND FUTURE BUYERS. MY SIDE VIEW MIRRORS LOOK LIKE THEY HAVE BEEN SITTING OUT IN THE DESERT FOR YEARS THE PAINT IS COMPLETELY CRACKED AND FADED. THE SLIGHTEST PIECE OF ROAD DIRT HITS AND THE PAINT IS CHIPPED ALL THE WAY TO THE BARE METAL. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. CARS THAT COST LESS AND ARE YEARS OLDER HAVE BETTER LOOKING PAINT. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE PROBLEM TO FIX BUT THAT EXPENSES SHOULDN'T BE THE CONSUMERS THAT TRUSTED THE REPUTATION OF TOYOTA AND SPENT HARD EARNED MONEY FOR THE PRIVILEGE OF OWNING A NEW CAR. I BOUGHT A 2005 SCION XA ON NOVEMBER 15, 2004. ON DECEMBER 20, 2004 THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT, AFTER HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE TIRE HAD 3,966 MILES ON IT. THE SIDE WALL BLEW . AS WE MY CHILDREN AND I PROCESSED TO CHANGE THE TIRE. THE JACK SLIDE SIDEWAYS, CAUSING THE CAR TO FALL. IT HURT MY 15 YEAR OLD SONS HAND, IF I HADNT SHOVED MY TIRE UNDER THE BODY OF THE CAR AND SCREAMED AT HIM, THE CAR WOULD HAVE LANDED ON HIM AND HIS LEG. WE REJACKED THE CAR BACK UP AND THE JACK STARTED SLIDING AGAIN. WE WERE IN A LEVEL GAS STATION PAVED PARKING LOT. THE THIRD TIME WE JACKED THE CAR UP THE JACK STARTED SLIPPING AGAIN. I BELIEVE THESE JACKS ARE DANGEROUS!! THE SIDE WALL OF THE TIRE IS ALSO TOO THIN. I HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRE. I WILL BUY A NEW JACK TO PUT IN MY CAR. I WOULD LIKE SOMEONE TO CHECK INTO THIS MATTER. ALSO THE MANUFACURE STATED THE CAR WOULD GET 32 MPH CITY, 38 HIGHWAY. WE ARE GETTING 28 CITY AND 31 ON HIGHWAY. THIS IS MY FIRST NEW CAR, I AM NOT IMPRESSED! I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN TOYOTA, WE HAVE HAD TOYOTA'S IN THE PAST AND I GOT BETTER MILAGE OUT OF THEM.
THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION TOYOTA SCION TC HAS A VIOLENT COLD START JERKING AND BUCKING AT A SLOW SPEED WHEN IT IS STARTED UNTIL THE ENGINE IS WARM. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TRIED TO REPLACE SENSORS AND IT CONTINUES TO DO THE SAME THING. TOYOTA CLAIMS IT IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED AS THERE ARE NO COMPUTER "FAULT CODES" DISPLAYED. OTHERS HAVE DRIVEN IT AND CLAIMED THAT IT IS NOT NORMAL, BUT TOYOTA REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT - "IT IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED." MANY DEALERS HAVE LOOKED AT IT AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX IT, ALTHOUGH THEY AGREE THAT THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLE IS NOT AS POPULAR AS THE AUTOMATIC AND FEW PEOPLE PURSUE THE PROBLEM. AUTOWEEK MAGAZINE WROTE ABOUT THE PROBLEM IN THE SEPTEMBER 19, 2005 ISSUE AND THE OFFICIAL RESPONSE FROM SCION WAS THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE ALTHOUGH IT WOULD BUCK AND JERK FOR THEM AS WELL. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE'S FRONT BRAKES MADE A LOUD SCREECHING NOISE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND CAUSED INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON 6 OCCASIONS AND THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND DISCS WERE REPLACED TWICE. THIS DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED.
TOOK FOOT OFF GAS TO SLOW DOWN WHEN APPROACHING CURVE. RAKED TO SLOW DOWN WHEN ENTERING CURVE AND VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW...FULLY ENGAGED BRAKE AND VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP AND KEPT ACCELERATING. THIS RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE CRASHING INTO AN EMBANKMENT WHICH CAUSED MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THIS IS IS BRAND NEW SCION TC PURCHASED 09/01/04. *AK
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT APPROX 70 MPH. I HAD THE SUN ROOF OPENED. WHILE DRIVING I HEARD A LOUD CRACK AND GLASS CAME POURING IN FROM THE SUNROOF OPENING. I WENT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP BY MY HOUSE. THE FRONT PANEL THAT ANGLES UP WAS BROKEN ALL AROUND THE ENTIRE PIECE OF GLASS. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT SEE A POINT OF IMPACT WHERE SOMETHING MAY HAVE HIT. HE SAID HE COULD STILL HEAR IT CRACKING AS WE WERE STANDING THERE TALKING. HE SAID SINCE THERE WAS NO POINT OF IMPACT IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. (I'VE ONLY HAD THE CAR A MONTH.) I AM CURRENTLY AWAITING FOR THE PIECE TO COME IN. I PURCHASED A SILVER SCION TC IN LATE JULY OF THIS YEAR, 2004. I NOTICED AFTER LESS THAN TWO MONTHS OF DRIVING ON REGULAR SUBURBAN ROADS THAT THERE WERE SEVERAL LARGE CHIPS ON THE FRONT OF MY HOOD. SINCE JULY, MORE AND MORE CHIPS HAVE FORMED AND BEGUN TO PEEL AND GET LARGER. EVEN THE BUMPER HAS CHIPPED BADLY AND THERE ARE SEVERAL CHIPS THAT ACTUALLY STICK OUT OF THE PAINT- AS IF THEY'RE BUBBLING. AFTER WAITING 2 MONTHS TO SEE THE "SCION" DISTRICT MANAGER, HE BLEW ME OFF AFTER 3 MINUTES OF BEING RUDE AND BARELY BOTHERING TO LOOK CLOSELY AT MY CHIPS. I BELIEVE THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE PAINT AND THAT THERE ARE OTHERS THAT ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE SCION BRAND.*AK
