I HAVE A LARGE CRACK IN THE FRONT WINDSHIELD OF MY 2008 SCION XB. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN MAY SO IT IS A LITTLE OVER 3 MONTHS OLD. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY ANYTHING HITTING THE WINDSHIELD. MY SCION DEALER SAYS THAT IT IS NOT COVERED BY MY WARRANTY. THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $1010 TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD AND THE MOLDING. *TR
I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2008 SCION XB ON AUGUST 3, 2008 AND ONLY AFTER 2.5 WEEKS NOTICED THE "L" SHAPED CRACK ON MY WINDSHIELD. AFTER MY INITIAL INSPECTION I COULD NOT SEE ANY VISIBLE ABRASIONS. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER 2 DAYS AFTER I FIRST NOTICED AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS DUE TO A ROCK. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE THAT CONDUCTED THE TEST HAD TO LITERALLY TRY TO FIND A "POINT OF CONTACT". HE EVEN HAD TO REQUEST FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO FIND ONE. FINALLY AFTER NUMEROUS PASSES WITH HIS PEN AND FINGER HE FINDS A SMALL CHIP ABOUT THE SIZE OF A PEN TIP, AN INCH DOWN FROM THE SEAM OF WHERE THE GLASS MEETS THE CAR. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 600 MILES. IS PARKED IN A GARAGE (AT WORK AND HOME). THE CRACK IS NOW AN ESTIMATED 7+ INCHES. I SAID TO THE SERVICE REP, "IS THE QUALITY OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT POOR, THAT A VERY SMALL ROCK HITTING A BRAND NEW WINDSHIELD WOULD CAUSE THIS MUCH DAMAGE". HIS RESPONSE WAS YES. *TR
CAR PARKED AND DASHBOARD ELECTRICAL UNIT CAUGHT ON FIRE, THE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES WITHIN 3 MINUTES. FIRE DEPARTMENT HAS A REAL CONCERN WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL THEY RESPONDED WITHIN 3 MINUTES AND THE CAR WAS GONE. IF MY SON WAS IN THE CAR WHILE IT WAS ON FIRE HE WOULD NOT HAVE HAD A CHANCE TO GET OUT. THAT IS HOW FAST THE CAR FIRE SPREAD. THE VEHICLE HAD ALL ORIGINAL FACTORY COMPONENTS (RADIO, SPEAKERS, ETC.) THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM IN THE ELECTRICAL PART OF THE VEHICLE. SINCE THIS WAS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT TOYOTA DOES NOT WANT TO DO A "FORENSICS ANALYSIS" ON THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT "COSTS TOO MUCH MONEY" AND THEY DO NOT WANT TO INVEST THEIR RESOURCES INTO A SINGLE ISOLATED FREAK INCIDENT. I WAS TOLD BY TOYOTA'S TOTAL LOSS DEPT REPRESENTATIVE "THAT IT WAS JUST NOT WORTH IT TO THEM TO INVESTIGATE". *TR
THE CAR SUSTAINED A N L SHAPED CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD PASSENGER SIDE FROM NO APPARENT IMPACT . CLEARLY A DESIGN FLAW AND IS LIKELY TO HAPPEN AGAIN ACCORDING TO HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS . *TR
TWO SEPARATE CRACKS ON WINDSHIELD 1ST ON OCCURRED AT 4000 MILES ON PASSENGER SIDE AND IS NOW 14 INCHES LONG. THE 2ND ONE IS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AT 17000 MILES AND IS 10 INCHES LONG. *TR
THE REVERSE LIGHTS ARE ONLY PLACED ON THE DRIVER SIDE. THERE IS NOT A REVERSE LIGHT VISIBLE FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE BECAUSE IT DOES NOT EXIST. THIS HAS NEARLY CAUSED ME SEVERAL ACCIDENTS WITH PEDESTRIANS AND VEHICLES. *TR I HAVE NOTICED THE NEWER MODELS HAVE FIXED THIS SAFETY HAZARD AND HAVE PLACED REVERSE LIGHTS ON BOTH SIDES. WE ARE EXTREMELY CONCERNED. THIS DEFINITELY NEEDS TO BE RECALLED/FIXED ON THESE MODELS. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT MY DEALER AND SCION CORPORATE SEVERAL TIMES WITH MY CONCERNS, WITH NO RESPONSE.
"TOO MUCH OIL CONSUMPTION" EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN 2008 I NOTICED TOPPING OFF MY OIL IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. OVER THE YEARS I ADDED MORE AND MORE. I CALLED TOYOTA SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY TOLD BE AN ENGINE SHOULD CONSUME OIL AND IT IS NORMAL. BUT THIS IS TOO MUCH. I NEVER IN MY LIFE HAD TO ADD SO MUCH OIL TO A NEWER CAR. RIGHT NOW I AM ADDING ALMOST A QUART EVERY 1000 MILES. I HAVE 110K MILES. THIS CAN GET DANGEROUS IF YOU ARE ON A LONG TRIP AND RUN OUT OF OIL AND ENGINE CAN SEIZE UP AND STALL. LUCKILY I ALWAYS CARRY EXTRA OIL WITH ME. IMAGINE HOW MUCH MONEY I SPENT ON OIL THROUGH THE YEARS. I AM NOT HAPPY AND THIS WILL BE MY LAST TOYOTA I EVER OWN.
OIL CONSUMPTION. EVER SINCE THIS VEHICLE WAS NEW I HAD TO ADD OIL SEVERAL TIMES IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. WHICH I THOUGH WAS "ODD" BUT WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA ABOUT IT THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NORMAL FOR MY CAR TO CONSUME OIL. GOT A LETTER CALLED WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM SAYS TO BRING CAR IN FOR OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AND IS CAR BURNS MORE THAN 1QT IN 1100-1300 MILES I WOULD GET IT REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY (NOT RECALL KEEP IN MIND). SO THE TEST SHOWED I BURNED 3/4 OF OIL IN 1300. I GET NOTHING FROM TOYOTA. NOT ENOUGH OIL CONSUMPTION FOR THEM TO DO ANYTHING FOR ME. I DON'T UNDERSTAND 3/4 IN 1300 MILES IS (A LOT) MEANS I HAVE TO ADD 4QTS OF OIL IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES IF INTERVALS ARE 5000 MILES. THAT IS RIDICULOUS!!! I AM BASICALLY DOING A OIL CHANGE MY SELF BY BURNING & ADDING BECAUSE 4QTS IS THE CAPACITY OF THIS CAR. TOYOTA SET THE STANDARD OF THIS TEST BEYOND REASONABLE ON PURPOSE. THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT WILL QUALIFY FOR ANY REPAIRS TO THE PISTON RINGS OR BLOCK WOULD BE PEOPLE THAT NEGLECTED THEIR ENGINES BY NOT ADDING OIL IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES AND DAMAGING THE ENGINE MORE THAN THE GOOD GUY CONSTANTLY ADDING TO SAVE OUR CAR!!! TOYOTA IS NOT A GOOD COMPANY FOR REASONS LIKE THIS. I WILL STICK WITH HONDA IN THE FUTURE. HONDA DOES NOT PLAY THESE STUPID GAMES WITH PEOPLE. MY SCION HAS BEEN CONSUMING EXCESSIVE OIL SINCE IT WAS BRAND NEW AND TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT ISSUE SINCE THEY ISSUED A TSB ON IT AND FREE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. DUE TO THIS PROBLEM THIS CAR IS NOT A GOOD CAR TO OWN. I STRONGLY SUGGEST PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEM TO COME FORWARD AND LET THE WORLD KNOW HOW RIDICULOUS TOYOTA IS HANDING THE OIL CONSUMPTIONS ISSUE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 SCION XB. THE CONTACT SMELLED SULFUR INSIDE THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OF THE VEHICLE. INITIALLY, HE THOUGHT THE SMELL WAS COMING FROM THE WATER IN THE BATTERY. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT HE NEEDED TO CHANGE HIS SELECTION OF GASOLINE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE DEALER'S ADVICE, BUT THE SMELL STILL PERSISTS AND MAKES HIM NAUSEAS. HE CALLED THE TOYOTA CORPORATION AND INFORMED THEM THAT THE SMELL COULD BE FROM ANY TYPE OF GASOLINE; THEREFORE, IT WAS NOT SOMETHING THAT HE COULD CONTROL. TOYOTA REFUSED TO ASSIST WITH THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4,500.
TL*-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 SCION XB. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ENGAGED WITH A GRINDING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE FRONT PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED AT 4,800 MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON A SEPARATE OCCASION WITH THE FRONT BRAKE PADS REPLACED AND THE ROTORS RESURFACED AT 10,000 MILES. THE FAILURES OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK AFTER THE SERVICE REPAIR. THE PADS AND ROTORS HAD BEEN REPLACED A TOTAL OF SIX DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE ENGINEERS WOULD REPLACE CERTAIN PARTS ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 33,675.
WE HAD A 2008 SCION X B WE TOOK IT TO STEVENS AUTO MALL ON FARMINGTON AVE BRISTOL CT ON TO SEPARATE OCCASIONS COMPLAINING OF A BURNING SMELL I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A NEW CAR SMELL AND IT WOULD GO AWAY WITH MILEAGE. IT HAD 39 MILES WHEN WE BOUGHT ON 1-27-2008 AND ON 5-25-2008 IT CAUGHT FIRE AND ONLY HAD 5500 MILES ON IT. WHEN I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER TO GET COPIES OF THE WORK ORDERS, THE FIRST THING THEY SAID WHEN THEY SAW ME WAS WHAT WAS WRONG WITH SCION AND I TOLD THEM IT WAS UP IN SMOKE AND TOTALED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY. *TR
FRONT WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED L-SHAPED CRACK ON PASSENGER SIDE, STARTING AT TOP MOLDING. CAR WAS SITTING IN DRIVEWAY, NO EVIDENCE OF IMPACT. TOOK CAR TO DEALER FOR EVAL, AT FIRST THEY COULD FIND NO REASON FOR CRACK. SERVICE MANAGER THEN USED A PEN TO FIND A MINUTE IMPERFECTION IN THE CRACK LINE. HE CLAIMED IT WAS AN IMPACT, HOWEVER, IT WAS LESS THAN 2MM LONG BY 1 MM, NOT CIRCULAR IN SHAPE AND FOLLOWS EXACTLY THE LINE OF THE CRACK. IN MY OPINION HE BROKE OFF A TINY SHARD WHEN HE DID THE PEN TRICK. AFTER I MADE HIM LOOK AT IT AGAIN, AND A ROCK IMPACT ON ANOTHER ONE OF MY CARS (WITH NO CRACK), HE COULD NOT EXPLAIN HOW SUCH A TINY CHIP COULD LOOK SO DIFFERENT AND CAUSE SUCH A CRACK. HE REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANY DEFECT OR KNOWLEDGE OF SCION PROBLEMS WITH WINDSHIELDS. IRONICALLY, I FOUND AN ENTRY FOR ANOTHER 2008 FROM THE SAME DEALERSHIP. I AM FOLLOWING INCREASED ESCALATION OF THE ISSUE, NEXT STEP IS AN INSPECTION BY THE FACTORY REP. AFTER THAT, I WILL CALL THE NATIONAL TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE. IF I CAN GET NO ACTION, THEN I WILL CALL THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE STATE. *TR
CRACKED WINDSHIELD ON 2008 SCION XB....JUST WALKED OUT ONE MORNING AND THE CRACK WAS THERE. *TR
WALKED TO CAR TO DRIVE TO WORK AT 0730 HOURS. NOTICED "L" SHAPED CRACK IN WINDSHIELD BEGINNING AT THE BASE OF THE WINDSHIELD (PASSENGER SIDE) ABOUT 10" FROM THE A PILLAR. TRAVELS VERTICALLY TO 3" ABOVE PASSENGER WIPER BLADE. *TR CHANGES DIRECTION HORIZONTALLY ABOUT 10" MOVING TOWARD DRIVERS A PILLAR. OUTSIDE AIR TEMP 53 DEGREES.
MY WINDSHIELD IN MY 2008 SCION XB CRACKED AT AN ANGLE STARTING AROUND THE MIRROR AND CURVING TO THE RIGHT. IT OCCURRED HOURS AFTER I HAD DRIVEN IT, FROM NO APPARENT REASON. THE GLASS APPEARS TO BE SUBSTANDARD OR SIMILAR TO THE HONDA ELEMENT, A DESIGN DEFECT. I HAD IT REPLACED ALREADY. *TR
MY 2008 SCION XB HAS BEEN THROUGH TWO WINDSHIELDS IN A YEAR. I WAS TOLD AT THE DEALER I AM LUCKY BECAUSE THEY HAVE REPLACED AND MANY AS FIVE WINDSHIELDS ON OTHER XB'S. THE WINDSHIELD SEEMS TO CRACK VERY EASILY. *TR
ONE MORNING WHEN GETTING INTO MY (5 MO OLD) 2008 SCION XB I FOUND A 2-3 IN. CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD THAT STARTED UNDER THE WEATHERSTRIPING AT THE A-PILLAR ABOUT 6-8 INCHES UP FROM THE HOOD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. WITHIN A SHORT TIME THAT DAY THE CRACK EXTENDED UP TO APPROX. 12-14 IN. IN A U SHAPE. DUE TO CONFLICTS I WAS UNABLE TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR 2 WEEKS. BY THAT TIME THE CRACK HAD EXTENDED ABOUT 4-5IN. MORE HORIZONTALLY ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD AND A SECOND CRACK STARTED FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE U SHAPE EXTENDING DOWN TO THE HOOD (ABOUT 2-3 IN). VISUAL EXAMINATION OF THE WINDSHIELD REVEALED NO OBVIOUS PITS OR IMPACT HITS. THE WEATHERSTRIPPING WHERE THE CRACK INITIATED ALSO APPEARS FREE OF DEFECTS OR DAMAGE. UPON QUICK REVIEW FROM THE DEALER THEY DECLARED THAT IT WAS CRACKED DUE TO SOME IMPACT (ROCK/PEBBLE/ETC...) AND REFUSED REPLACEMENT AS FACTORY DEFECT. *TR
CRACKED WINDSHIELD (AGAIN!) THIS IS MY SECOND XB AND I FIGURED THE FIRST CRACKED WINDSHIELD IN MY 2006 WAS A FLUKE, BUT NO! NOW I HAVE ONE IN MY BRAND NEW (2,100 MILES) 2008 XB! WHAT THE HECK?? IT HAS TO BE A DEFECT. *TR
WINDSHIELD CRACKED EASILY. *TR
CRACKED WINDSHIELD. POSSIBLE DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING DEFECT. PRESENT IN SCION XBS YEARS 2006-2008. IF YOU GOOGLE "XB WINDSHIELD" YOU WILL FIND NUMEROUS POSTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE. TOYOTA/SCION APPEAR TO BE REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS ISSUE. I CONTACTED SCION AND THEY TOLD ME TO CONTACT THE DEALER TO LOOK AT THE WINDSHIELD. THE DEALER USES A BIASED 3RD PARTY GLASS COMPANY WHO, OF COURSE, SAYS THE FREQUENCY OF WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENTS ARE NO DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER CAR. WHICH, BASED ON THE NUMBER OF INTERNET POSTS AND WEBSITES DEDICATED TO THIS ISSUE AND A POSSIBLE CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT, ALL BEG TO DIFFER. *TR
MY WINDSHIELD HAS A "L" SHAPED CRACK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE TOP. I DON'T RECALL HITTING ANYTHING, SO I AM NOT SURE WHAT CAUSED IT. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY QUOTED ME $500.00 JUST FOR THE WINDSHIELD PLUS LABOR TO INSTALL. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. *TR
2008. *TR 2008 SCION XB DURING A 5 HR TRIP , WITHOUT GETTING HIT ON THE WINDSHIELD BY ANYTHING AT ALL, THE WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED A CRACK STARTING AT THE TOP EDGE AND EXTENDING DOWN ABOUT 6 INCHES. I HAD READ ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON THE EDMUNDS AUTO WEBSITE. I WENT TO MY LOCAL DEALER AND WAS TOLD BY A SERVICE ADVISER THAT I WAS FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR, I WENT TO THE SERVICE MANAGER TO COMPLAIN THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS, AND I WAS NOT GOING TO PAY FOR IT. HE TOLD ME THAT HE WOULD CONTACT THE TOYOTA REP FOR THE AREA AND WOULD GET BACK TO ME. THEY DID APPROVE THE REPAIR, BUT I'M AFRAID THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN, ITS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE TO MANY OWNERS, TOYOTA SHOULD BE FORCED TO FIX THIS WITHOUT GIVING CUSTOMERS A HARD TIME ABOUT IT.
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2008 SCION XB WITH 125 MILES ALREADY ON THE CAR. I'VE ONLY HAD IT FOR A LITTLE OVER 2 WEEKS AND THERE IS A HUGE CRACK ON MY WINDSHIELD THAT STARTED ON THE LOWER PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND HAS NOW SPREAD TO THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. *TR
THE WINDSHIELD ON MY 2008 SCION XB CRACKED OVERNIGHT WITH NO APPARENT STONE OR IMPACT DAMAGE. THE SERVICE REP AT LOMBARD TOYOTA IN LOMBARD ILLINOIS TOOK A LOOK AT IT AND SAID IT'S ROCK DAMAGE. HE RAN A PEN ALONG THE CRACK AND CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT A STONE HIT IT AND WILL NOT FIX IT. THE GLASS IS NOT CHIPPED AND THERE WAS NO SIGN OF AN IMPACT, ONLY A CRACK THAT RUNS FROM THE EDGE OF THE WINDOW TO ABOUT 5 INCHES IN, ON THE DRIVER SIDE. AT THIS TIME I EITHER HAVE MY INSURANCE COMPANY FIX IT OR PAY FOR IT MYSELF. THE WINDSHIELD DOES NOT HAVE ANY STONE CHIPS ON IT AND THE CAR ONLY HAS 15,000 MILES. *TR
AFTER OWNING MY 2008 SCION XB FOR 2 MONTHS I FOUND A SMALL CHIP IN THE WINDSHIELD. NOT SURE WHEN IT HAPPENED. THAT CHIP HAS NOT SPREAD SO FAR. THEN, MY HUSBAND AND I TOOK A TRIP TO OREGON DRIVING ON THE COAST SO THAT WE WOULD NOT GET ROCKS KICKED AT US FROM CARS ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER 8 DAYS WE CAME HOME WITH 3 MORE CHIPS ON OUR WINDSHIELD AND 2 CRACKS EACH MEASURING APPROXIMATELY 6 INCHES IN LENGTH AND SPREADING. WE HEARD 2 SEPARATE TIMES WHERE A ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD AND LEFT THE CHIP; HOWEVER, THE OTHER CHIP AND 2 CRACKS ARE UNKNOWN HOW THEY HAPPENED. ONE MORNING WE CAME OUT OF OUR HOTEL AND FOUND THE 2ND CRACK. WE WERE NOT PARKED BY A LOT OF CARS AND WE WERE NOT BY A MAIN STREET OR HIGHWAY. I HAVE READ SEVERAL SITES ON THE INTERNET WHERE OTHER SCION OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR WINDSHIELD. THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THERE NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATION INTO A RECALL ON THE WINDSHIELD. I PLAN ON GETTING THIS WINDSHIELD REPLACED IN THE NEXT MONTH, BUT IF A RECALL OCCURS, I HOPE THAT I WILL BE REIMBURSED. *TR
2008 SCION XB, 5,000 MILES, WINDSHIELD MYSTERIOUSLY CRACKED, NO IMPACT OR REASON. CALLED DEALER AND THEY SAY THEY HAVE NO REPORTS OR RECALLS. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND MANY PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. TRUE SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
08 SCION HEAD LIGHTS ARE NOT VISIBLE AFTER 75 FT. ( LOW BEAMS) COMPLETE DARKNESS AFTER THAT LIMIT. SERIES OF CRACK WIND SHIELDS ALL STARTING AT THE BOTTOM. *TR
TAKATA AIRBAGS I LIVE IN SAN DIEGO CA AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO FIX AVAILABLE FOR THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL AND THERE MAY NOT BE FOR YEARS. I HAVE JUST HEARD FROM FRIENDS IN THE NORTHEAST US AND THEY ARE GETTING THE AIRBAGS TAKEN CARE OF, WHY IS THERE NO FIX AVAILABLE IN SO CA
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2008 SCION XB IN OCTOBER OF THIS YEAR (2007) WITHIN 2 MONTHS OF OWNING THE CAR (APPROXIMATELY ON DECEMBER 20, 2007) I NOTICED THAT I HAD A CRACK ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF MY WINDSHIELD THAT PROGRESSIVELY SPREAD IN A MATTER OF A DAY. I TOOK THE CAR TO EDDY'S TOYOTA/SCION ON DECEMBER 21, 2007 TO HAVE IT INSPECTED AND FIXED UNDER WARRANTY, AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE WINDSHIELD BECAUSE THE SERVICE REP. SAID THAT HE SAW A ROCK CHIP THAT HAD ALLEGEDLY CAUSED THE CRACK AND ROCK CHIPS WERE NOT COVERED BY TOYOTA. A WEEK AND A HALF LATER ON DECEMBER 28, 2007 I WOKE UP TO DISCOVER ANOTHER CRACK ON MY WINDSHIELD LOCATED ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF MY WINDSHIELD. I TOOK THAT CRACK TO GO BE INSPECTED AT THE DEALER, HAVING OBSERVED NO CHIPS IN THIS ONE, AND I WAS TOLD YET AGAIN THAT THERE WAS A TINY MARK THAT THEY CONSIDERED TO BE A ROCK CHIP AND THAT THIS NEW CRACK, WHICH BY THAT TIME HAD VISIBLY SPREAD, WAS ALSO NOT COVERED. I AM ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS AT THE LACK OF RESPONSIBILITY TOYOTA IS TAKING IN THIS MATTER. I HAVE SINCE CALLED THE CORPORATE SCION OFFICES AND FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT WHICH I AM WAITING TO HERE BACK ON. I ALSO PROCEEDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH AND HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON THING AMONGST SCION OWNERS AND THEY HAVE ALL EXPERIENCED THE SAME NON RESPONSIVENESS FROM THE TOYOTA CORPORATION. I BOUGHT A TOYOTA PRODUCT BECAUSE I VALUED THEIR WORKMANSHIP AND RELIABILITY AND NOW I AM BEGINNING TO BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE CUTTING CORNERS AND NOT OWNING UP TO THE DEFECTS THAT ARE IN THEIR VEHICLES. I HAVE RECEIVED NO CUSTOMER SERVICE IN REGARDS TO THIS MATTER AND HAVE BASICALLY BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE AND THAT I HAVE TO CONTINUE TO PAY WHENEVER MY WINDSHIELD GETS DAMAGED. THE SCION XB WINDSHIELDS ARE DEFECTIVE AND TOYOTA REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS MATTER. THIS IS NOT ONLY A DEFECT BUT IT IS ALSO A SAFETY HAZARD, ONE IN WHICH I WAS NOT TOLD OF WHEN PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA SCION XB. ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATORS (ABS LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT, AIR BAG LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT) ILLUMINATED FOR APPROXIMATELY TEN MINUTES. AFTERWARDS, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. ON FOUR OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE STALLED. WHILE IDLING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, THE VEHICLE WOULD SOMETIMES VIBRATE AND SHAKE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE BURNS A LOT OF FUEL. THE WINDOW STICKER CLAIMED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD GET 22 MPG IN THE CITY AND 28 MPG ON THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE ACTUALLY GETS 15 MPG IN THE CITY AND 20 MPG ON THE HIGHWAY. ON THE FOURTH VISIT TO THE DEALER, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE MISFIRED ON THE SECOND CYLINDER. WHEN HE RESEARCHED THE LEMON LAW AND WENT TO ARBITRATION, HE WAS INFORMED THAT, BY LAW, GAS IS NOT A WARRANTY FACTOR DUE TO CHANGES IN WEATHER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 23,400 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000. UPDATED 03/26/08. *LJ
I HAVE A 2008 SCION XB THAT HAS DEVELOPED AN" L" SHAPED STRESS CRACK ON THE UPPER PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THERE ARE NO ROCK CHIPS OF ANY KIND LOCATED NEAR THE BEGINNING OF THE CRACK. THE CRACK BEGINS UNDER THE MOULDING AND CONTINUES DOWNWARD INTO THE "L" SHAPE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF TOYOTA WILL BE MADE TO REPLACE THIS SINCE IT SEEMS TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH SCION OWNERS.*CN
WITHIN THE FIRST 3 MONTHS FROM BUYING MY SCION FROM HAMMER TOYOTA MY SCION SWAY BAR BREAKS AND COME TO FIND OUT THERE IS A RECALL ON THAT,BUT TOYOTA NEVER SENT ME A NOTICE TILL I TOOK MY CAR IN.THEN THERE WAS A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM AS WELL THAT SOMETHING WAS BURNING INSIDE MY CAR WITHIN THE FIRST 3 MONTHS AND THEN A HAMMER TOYOTA EMPLOYEE BRINGS ME MY CAR AND THEY HAD CRASH MY DRIVER SIDE DOORS.MY NEXT PROBLEM IS THAT MY CAR IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD I BOUGHT IT WITH 0 MILES OFF THE LOT AND NOW THE CAR CHARCOAL CANISTER BREAKS AND I BOUGHT THE EXTRA WARRANTY ON MY CAR ONLY FOR THEM TO TELL ME THAT THE WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER IT AND IT COST ME $1800.00 FOR THEM TO FIX IT.NOW THE NEXT PROBLEM IS THAT THE ENGINE IS BURNING TO MUCH OIL WITHIN A MONTH 1 QTY OF OIL.I TAKE THE CAR TO GET SERVICE AND CHECK THE OIL BEFORE THE MONTH END AND ITS BURN JUST ABOUT 1 QTY AND THAT'S ONLY DRIVING WITHIN THE CITY NOT DRIVING HIGHWAY.NOW I AM GETTING CALLS FROM TOYOTA WANTING TO BUY MY CAR BACK FROM ME FOR LESS THEN WHAT I BOUGHT MY CAR FOR.THIS CAR HAS COST ME MORE MONEY THEN ANYTHING AND PROBLEMS.SOMETHING IS WRONG HERE FOR THEM TO BE CALLING ME TO BUY MY CAR BACK FROM ME WHY IS MY QUESTION? LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS ON THE 2008 SCION XB DO NOT PROJECT OUT FAR ENOUGH FROM THE VEHICLE. THERE IS A CLEARLY DEFINED LINE ABOUT 75 FEET FROM THE VEHICLE WHERE THE LIGHT ENDS AND THE DARK BEGINS DURING NIGHT DRIVING. THE SOLUTION ACCORDING TO TOYOTA/SCION WAS TO PURCHASE FOG LAMPS AS AUXILIARY LIGHTING THEY DO HELP AS DO THE HIGH BEAMS. HOWEVER THE SO CALLED "HALOGEN HEADLIGHTS W/ PROJECTOR LOW BEAMS' DO NOT DO EXACTLY THAT PROJECT ENOUGH LIGHT. I CAN NOT GET THEM TO UNDERSTAND HOW DANGEROUS THE SITUATION IS WHEN YOU CAN ONLY USE THE LOW BEAMS. THEY CLAIM THE LIGHTS HAVE BEEN ADJUSTED TO THE MAXIMUM. AND ARE DESIGNED AS URBAN LIGHTS SO AS TO NOT BE INTRUSIVE TO OPPOSING DRIVERS OR PEDESTRIANS. I HOWEVER LIVE IN A VERY RURAL AREA AND THE LIGHTS ARE NOT ADEQUATE FOR RURAL DRIVING. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE CAUSED BY BOTH BEAMS POINTING DOWN AND TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I THINK THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT TOYOTA/SCION NEEDS TO RESOLVE, OR BE FORCED TO RESOLVE. I SUSPECT AS THE DAYS GET SHORTER MORE OWNERS LIKE ME WILL DISCOVER HOW POORLY THE LOW BEAMS PERFORM. THERE HAVE BEEN NO CRASHES, INJURIES OR DEATHS UNLESS YOU KNOW SOMETHING I DON'T. *TR

SCION XB 2008. GREAT SO FAR 9000MI. NO DEFECTS. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW. LIGHTS DO NOT SHUT OFF WHEN KEY IS TURNED OFF. VERY LOW WARNING BEEP TO REMIND. I CAN'T REMEMBER LAST VEHICLE I OWNED THAT DID NOT SHUT WITH KEY. *TR
REAR WHEEL PASSENGER SIDE OUT OF ALIGNMENT AND CAN'T BE FIXED. TOP SIDE LEANS INWARD. CAR NEVER BEEN IN ACCIDENT AND IT HAS ALWAYS HAD A PROBLEM OF WEAR ON THAT TIRE SIDE. IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION BY A AN ALIGNMENT TECHNICIAN, THAT IT COULD BE A KNOWN ISSUE AS HE HAD SEEN THIS ON MANY SCIONS. ITS BEEN LIKE THIS SINCE I CAN REMEMBER. ALWAYS BUYING NEW TIRES DUE TO THIS CONDITION. DUE TO THIS ISSUE AS WELL, CAR WANTS TO VIER TO RIGHT MOST OFTEN, EVEN WITH PERFECT ALIGNMENT IN THE FRONT. PURCHASED NEW LATE 2007
