I GOT IN MY 2017 CROSSTREK PREMIUM ON FEBRUARY 11, 2020 THAT WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOTICED A CRACK IN THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD. IT WAS NOT THERE THE DAY BEFORE. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING, NOTHING HIT ME. I DO NOT OFF ROAD. THE CRACK WAS SPONTANEOUS. NOW THE CRACK HAS SPROUTED INTO SEVERAL SPONTANEOUS CRACKS THAT ARE CONTINUALLY GETTING WORSE, CLIMBING APPROX. 1/3 OF THE WAY UP THE WINDSHIELD! I HAVE PHOTOS OF THE PROGRESSION OF THE CRACK STARTING FEBRUARY 2020 TO THE PRESENT, EACH MONTH, IF NEEDED.
I CAME OUT TO THE PARKING LOT WHERE I WORK AND THERE'S A CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD WASN'T A SUPER HOT DAY OR SUPER COLD DAY OR ANYTING JUST LOOKED UP AND SAW THE CRACK I'M LIKE THAT'S A BUMMER.
THE CAR LOST POWER STEERING SHORTLY AFTER CAR WAS STARTED TO GO ON S SHORT TRIP. WE WERE STILL N OUR DRIVEWAY WHEN IT HAPPENED. I COULD STILL DRIVE IT, BUT TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT ON CURVES ON BACK ROADS AND HIGHWAY TO THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE 32 MILES AWAY. I HAVE HEARD OTHER SUBARUS HAVE HAD SHORTS IN THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM.
A RANDOM CRACK APPEARED ON MY WINDSHIELD WITHOUT ANYTHING HITTING THE WINDSHIELD OR ANYTHING DAMAGING IT. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A PARKING GARAGE WHEN I NOTICED IT AND WAS NOT MOVING.
NO VISBILITY OF CRACK BEFORE WORK. 9 HOURS LATER A LARGE CRACK APPEARS ON WINDSHIELD. CAR WAS PARKED IN GATED SECURE PARKING STRUCTURE F=DURING THE TIME.
I WAS DRIVING VERY SLOW INTO MY GARAGE FROM TOWNHOUSE STREET. I HEARD THIS STRANGE NOISE AND MY CAR ACCELERATED FAST. I TRIED TO BRAKE BUT COULD NOT STOP THE CAR. I HIT THE BACK OF MY GARAGE CAUSING DAMAGE TO GARAGE WALL AND INSIDE OF MY TOWNHOME. I HAVE LIVED HERE SINCE 1987 AND THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. THE CAR IS NOW AT GALE AUTO REPAIR, BLAINE, MN.. THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THIS SUDDEN ACCELERATION.
WHEN DRIVING INTO MY GARAGE, MY CAR MADE A STRANGE NOISE AND ACCELERATED INTO THE BACK OF MY GARAGE. I DID PUT ON MY BRAKES BUT THE CAR WAS GOING TOO FAST AND DID NOT STOP. I HAD DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END OF MY GARAGE, A SHELF AND INSIDE MY LAUNDRY ROOM AND BATHROOM. I DRIVE SLOW INTO MY STREET AND MY GARAGE. I HAVE LIVED HERE SINCE 1987 AND THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. MY CAR IS BEING FIXED BY GALE AUTO, BLAINE, MN.
KEY GETS STUCK IN IGNITION AND THE CAR NEEDS TO BE RESTARTED, PUT IN REVERSE/DRIVE, AND THEN EITHER MOVED OR STEP FIRMLY ON THE BREAK AND BACK IN PARK. SOMETIMES IT TAKES MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. HAVING THIS ISSUE FOR A COUPLE MONTHS. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY TIME, BUT OFTEN.
MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, THE KEY CANNOT BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION WHEN THE CAR IS TUNED OFF AND IN PARK. CONSTANTLY NEED TO RESTART THE CAR AND PLAY AROUND WITH THE SHIFTER. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR OVER A MONTH. CAR IS LESS THAN THREE YEARS OLD AND HAS 40K MILES ON IT. GANLEY SUBARU OF BEDFORD HAS SAID ANY REPAIR WOULD NEED TO BE PAID FOR OUT OF POCKET.
CAR STALLS RANDOMLY UPON ACCELERATION FROM A STOPLIGHT OR STOP SIGN. TAKES 3 TO 4 SECONDS TIL THE CAR ACCELERATES. DURING ALL THIS TIME THE ENGINE IS STILL RUNNING. HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES WITHIN THE PAST YEAR. AFRAID THIS MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, AS YESTERDAY I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO GET T-BONED. WILL NOT DRIVE MY GRANDSONS IN THIS CAR.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT BLINKS. CANNOT USE CRUISE CONTROL. ITS A 2017 CROSSTREK. TOOK IT TO DEALER TWICE. THEY THOUGHT IT WAS CATALYTIC CONVERTOR OR O2 SENSORS WHICH WERE FIXED BUT LIGHTS REMAIN ON
KEY GETS STUCK IN IGNITION AND THE CAR NEEDS TO BE RESTARTED IN ORDER TO REMOVE KEY. THIS OCCURS WHEN STATIONARY AND TRYING TO REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION. HAD THIS ISSUE FOR A ABOUT A MONTH BEFORE I TOOK IT IN AS SUBARU HAD A RECALL FOR WUE90 STOP LIGHT SWITCH REPLACEMENT AND I THOUGHT IT MAY BE RELATED AS DID MY SERVICE PROVIDER AT NORTH PARK SUBARU OR MAYBE HAD TO DO WITH STEERING. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT SOLVED, THE REPAIR WAS OUT OF MY POCKET. THE SERVICE PROVIDER REPORTED 'ERRATIC OPERATION OF PARK SWITCH ON SHIFTER' AND THE SHIFTER WAS REPLACED AND PROBLEM IS RESOLVED. THIS APPEARS A MANUFACTURING FLAW THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED AS MANY OTHERS REPORT THE SAME ISSUE. THE SERVICE PROVIDER ALSO REPORTED THE SAME ISSUE AND STATED MANY PEOPLE HAD COME IN RECENTLY TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE SERVICED. IT MAYBE UNETHICAL THAT THE SERVICE PROVIDER HAS NOT OR DID NOT APPEAR TO BE REPORTING THE MATTER. CAR IS LESS THAN THREE YEARS OLD (WHEN OCCURED) AND HAS 50K MILES ON IT.
MY BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED AND TURNED OFF. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE AFTER WORK, THE BATTERY WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY DISCHARGED. I WAS ABLE TO CALL FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE THROUGH SUBARU AND RECEIVED A JUMP START. (THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHILE I WAS BACKPACKING THE WEEKEND OF 9/21-9/22, BUT THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DISCHARGED. ANOTHER ONE OF THE MEMBERS OF OUR SCOUT TROOP WAS ABLE TO GIVE ME A JUMP START. PREVIOUSLY, I HAD BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATING, BUT HAD BEEN ABLE TO CATCH IT IN TIME BEFORE THE BATTERY DIED. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WOULD LOSE THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS, WHICH COULD BE REMEDIED BY ME TAKING MY FOOT OFF OF THE GAS PEDAL. AFTER THE JUMP ON 10/3, THIS LOSS OF ACCELERATION HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME TO THE POINT WHERE I HAD TO PULL OVER BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT CONTINUE MOVING. ON A FINAL NOTE, I REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH THE EVENING OF 10/3 AND HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED EITHER PROBLEM SINCE.)
WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I LOG A TON OF MILES AS A PART-TIME UBER DRIVER AND NEVER RECALL A STONE OR ANYTHING ELSE IMPACT MY WINDSHIELD WHILE I WAS DRIVING. SUDDENLY ON 9/15/19, THERE WAS A SMALL CRACK ON MY WINDSHIELD AND NOW, ON 11/3/19, THERE ARE LINEAR CRACKS ON THE WINDSHIELD THAT EXTEND 24" ON BOTH SIDES OF THAT SMALL CRACK. THIS WAS LIKELY DUE TO THE CHANGING COLD WEATHER
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY GOING 45MPH IN A STRAIGHT LINE WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER AND TURNED OFF. AS A RESULT MY WIFE WAS REAR ENDED BUT SUFFERED NO MAJOR PHYSICAL INJURY. WE BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY INSPECTED IT. HOWEVER, THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. A FEW MONTHS AFTER THE ACCIDENT, THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE MAKE AND MODEL FOR SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER BUT MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *TR
MY AIRBAG SENSOR WENT OUT ON MY PASSENGER SEAT AND IT WAS ON BACKORDER FOR OVER A MONTH AND A HALF. THIS ISSUE HAD BEEN REPORTED BY OTHER SUBARU CARS (FORESTER) AND IT ALSO OCCURRED ON MY VEHICLE.
WHEN TURNING THE CAR OFF, IT DOES NOT RELEASE THE KEY. THIS HAS BEEN AN ON AND OFF PROBLEM FOR A COUPLE MONTHS NOW.
VEHICLE IS ONLY 2YRS OLD AND HAS ROUGHLY 6200 MILES ON IT. THE BRAKES WERE MAKING AN AWFUL RUBBING/ GRINDING NOISE AND SMELLING LIKE THEY WERE BURNING. SUBARU DEALER IS OVER AN HOUR AWAY FROM HOME AND DIDN'T FEEL THAT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE VEHICLE THERE. TOOK IT TO A LOCAL GARAGE AND HAD TO HAVE ALL FOUR ROTARS AND SETS OF BRAKE PADS REPLACED. BURLINGTON SUBARU SAID TOO BAD CAN'T HELP YOU SHOULD HAVE HAD CAR TOWED TO US AND WE COULD HAVE MAYBE COVERED SOME OF IT UNDER WARRANTY. CAN'T HELP YOU NOW. WE FEEL THAT THIS IS WRONG AND BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. WE LIKE THE CAR, BUT IF THAT IS THE TYPE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE WE GET WHEN SUBARU BOASTS "PEACE OF MIND AND QUALITY PARTS" THEN WE DON'T HAVE TO STAY WITH SUBARU. HAVING OUR CAR TOWED WOULD HAVE BEEN $300 PLUS THE PARTS AND SERVICE AND A MAYBE WARRANTY COVERAGE WASN'T AN OPTION FOR MANY SAFETY AND MONETARY REASONS. WE FEEL IT WOULD BE RIGHT TO AT LEAST COVER THE COST OF PARTS THAT WE PAID. ATTACHED THE INVOICE. LABOR IS $75/HOUR AT OUR LOCAL GARAGE X 3 HOURS. I UNDERSTAND THAT BRAKE PADS ARE A WEAR OUT ITEM BUT ROTARS SHOULD LAST A LOT LONGER THAN 6200 MILES!!! MECHANIC TOLD ME THE BRAKE PADS WERE ALMOST CORRODED ONTO ROTARS. LUCKILY CALIPERS ARE OKAY. NOT ONLY THAT, I RECENTLY FOUND ON LINE THAT OUR CROSSTREK HAS A RECALL THAT WE WERE NOT NOTIFIED ON. IT CAME OUT IN FEB 2019!
MY WINDSHIELD BUSTED FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET.
I RECEIVED A SUBARU CRITICAL SAFETY RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THE BRAKE LIGHTS. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT SCHEDULE WORK FOR OVER 6 WEEKS. BLOOMINGTON, MN SUBARU. SEE COPY OF EMAIL I SENT FOLLOWING: [XXX] 9:46 AM (1 HOUR AGO) TO BLOOMINGTON "I LEFT A MESSAGE THIS MORNING WITH YOUR SERVICE MANAGER, REGISTERING MY EXTREME DISPLEASURE AND OUTRAGE THAT WHEN I CALLED YOUR SERVICE DESK OVER TWO WEEKS AGO TO SCHEDULE SERVICE ON THIS "URGENT CRITICAL SAFETY RECALL", THAT THE EARLIEST DATE I COULD GET WAS JULY 9. WHEN I EXPLAINED MY CONCERN WITH THE DILATORY SCHEDULING TO YOUR SERVICE PERSON, I WAS TOLD I WOULD RECEIVE A FOLLOW-IP CALL FROM YOU SERVICE MANAGER. I NEVER DID. I'D CALLED WHEN I RECEIVED THE SAFETY RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL. TODAY I RECEIVED THIS EVEN MORE ALARMING SAFETY RECALL BY EMAIL, IDENTIFYING SEVERAL ALARMING DANGERS LINKED TO THE BRAKE FAILURE ISSUE, INCLUDING RISKS OF A CRASH AND FAILURE OF RELATED SAFETY SYSTEMS. . MY DETAILED VOICE MAIL MESSAGE THAT I LEFT THIS MORNING UNDERSCORED MY CONCERN THAT THIS PROBLEM THAT COULD LEAD A CRASH AND OTHER SERIOUS SAFETY OUTCOMES IS BEING HANDLED IN THIS WAY, INTERESTINGLY, WHEN I SPOKE TO YOUR SERVICE PERSON TWO WEEKS AGO AND WAS GIVEN JULY 9 AS THE EARLIEST DATE, HE EXPLAINED THAT THERE WERE OTHER SAFETY RECALL ISSUES WITH AIRBAGS THAT HAD TAKEN PRECEDENCE. IT IS UNBELIEVABLE TO ME THAT SUBARU WOULD PRESENT THIS LACKADAISICAL ATTITUDE AT YOUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THIS CAR. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 SUBARU CROSSTREK. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V149000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING); HOWEVER, THE PARTS TO DO THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER (#1 COCHRAN BUICK GMC OF MONROEVILLE, 4520 WILLIAM PENN HWY, MONROEVILLE, PA 15146, (412) 245-4220) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY UNTIL JUNE 26, 2019. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
I LEASE A 2017 SUBARU CROSSTREK. THE CAR HAS BEEN FAITHFULLY MAINTAINED AS PER MANUFACTURER SPECIFICATIONS AND HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT/EXPERIENCED ANY BODY DAMAGE. THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS HAVE FAILED THREE TIMES PRIOR TO 48K. THE LEFT WHEEL BEARING WAS REPLACED TWICE BETWEEN 48K AND 55 K AND THE RIGHT WHEEL BEARING WAS REPLACED AROUND 52K. APPARENTLY, THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT AND THE DEALER NOTED THAT ALL WHEEL BEARINGS ON EVERY SUBARU FAIL PRIOR TO 50K. FOR A RATHER PRICEY CAR, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD. IF THE WHEEL BEARINGS FAIL, IT COULD LOCK UP ONE WHEEL AND CAUSE THE CAR TO FLIP UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING ADDITIONALLY, YOU WILL DRIVE THE CAR ONE DAY WITHOUT ANY ISSUE AND LITERALLY, THE NEXT DAY, YOU WILL START TO HEAR A LOW GROANING NOISE. I WOULD LIKE THE NHSTA TO OPEN A DEFECTS INVESTIGATION AS THEY CAN FIND THE SAME PROBLEM ACROSS EVERY SUBARU MODEL FROM 2013-FORWARD WHEN THE WHEEL BEARING DESIGN WAS CHANGED. DEALER RECORDS AND WARRANTY REPAIRS CAN INDICATE THIS. THE DESIGN ALLOWS FOR WATER AND ROAD DEBRIS TO GET INSIDE OF THE BEARING, CAUSING PREMATURE WEAR AND FAILURE. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO HAVE TO REPLACE WHEEL BEARINGS ON CARS EVERY 50K. MY LAST VEHICLE (2007 HYUNDAI SONATA) DROVE FLAWLESSLY UNTIL 277K AND I NEVER HAD TO CHANGE A WHEEL BEARING IN THE 10 YEARS I OWNED THAT VEHICLE. SHAME ON SUBARU!
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A ROAD AT 45 MPH WHEN MY CAR TURNED OFF SUDDENLY. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD LIT ON. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SLOWLY. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND IT TURNED BACK ON WITH NO PROBLEMS. I DROVE HOME, AND DROVE IT TO MATT SLAP SUBARU IN NEWARK, DELAWARE THE NEXT MORNING (TODAY). I SPOKE TO THE PRODUCT SPECIALIST, DENISE. SHE SAID TO KEEP DRIVING IT AND SEE IF THE PROBLEM HAPPENS AGAIN, AND AT THAT POINT THEY WILL DO A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. I INSISTED THAT THEY ADDRESS THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY INFORMED ME THAT IS NOT THEIR PROTOCOL. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN--ONE THAT SUBARU IS NOT TAKING SERIOUSLY. AS FAR AS I KNOW, THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT FILED A REPORT TO SUBARU OF THIS ISSUE. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ONLY GOING 45 MPH AND WAS ON A ROAD WITH A SHOULDER WITHOUT HEAVY TRAFFIC. HAD THE CIRCUMSTANCES BEEN DIFFERENT, THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. IT SHOULD NOT HAVE TO OCCUR TWICE BEFORE SUBARU CONSIDERS A FIX. ONE SHUT DOWN IS ENOUGH.
STEREO SYSTEM FREEZES. TOUCH SCREEN INACCESSIBLE. GLITCHES CONSTANTLY. NOT ABLE TO ACCESS ANY APPS, NAVIGATION, STARLINK, ETC.

I DO T HAVE TIME WHEN GOING TO WORK TO DO THIS CYCLE OF ON AND OFF 1-9 TIMES ON A 2 YR OLD VEHICLE, PLEASE DO A RECALL.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH IN THE RAIN, THE DRIVER PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO THE REAR OF A SECOND VEHICLE. DURING THE INCIDENT THE COLLISION AVOIDANCE FEATURE( 'EYESIGHT') MALFUNCTIONED AND DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE FRONT END WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED BUT THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN AT THE SCENE AND THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AWAY. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WERE NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT YET NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
HI, I WAS READING ONLINE THAT OTHERS HAVE BEEN ISSUING COMPLAINTS ABOUT CRACKS IN SUBARU CROSSTREK WINDSHIELDS RANDOMLY OCCURRING. THIS HAPPENED TO ME AS WELL. MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED SEEMINGLY RANDOMLY WHILE PARKED IN A PARKING LOT AT A MOUNTAIN RESORT IN WINTER OR 2019 (~27 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE). NO PREEXISTING DAMAGE WAS NOTED PRIOR TO LEAVING THE VEHICLE. THE CRACK EXTENDED FROM THE SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD TO ABOUT 1/4 OF THE WAY ACROSS IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER (ABOUT 1FT LONG). NO IMPACT EVENTS WERE VISIBLE ON THE WINDSHIELD THAT MAY HAVE CAUSED IT. I DO NOT HAVE IMAGES OF THE DAMAGE BUT DO HAVE THE INSURANCE CLAIM IF NEEDED. APPROXIMATE DATE PROVIDED BELOW.

MY WINDSHIELD HAD SEVERAL CRACKS, THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO BE PRODUCED SO EASILY. WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS OF OWNING MY 2017 CROSSTREK, A PEBBLE HIT MY WINDSHIELD AT A RATHER LOW FORCE AND CRACKED THE WINDSHIELD. THEN THE CRACK TRAVELED ALL THE WAY DOWN. THEN ANOTHER CRACK MYSTERIOUSLY APPEARED IN A DIFFERENT SPOT. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED A WINDSHIELD SO WEAK. I HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED.
WINDSHIELD IS CRACKING FOR NO CERTAIN REASON.
CAR KEY CONTINUALLY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THIS BEGAN A MONTH AGO. MY CAR IS IN PARK, AND THE KEY JUST WILL NOT COME OUT, PRETTY OFTEN NOW. YOU EITHER AFTER TO START THE CAR AGAIN AND MOVE IT A LITTLE OR JIGGLE THE HANDLE IN PARK UNTIL THE KEY COMES OUT.
SNOW AND RAIN GETTING ONTO ENGINE WITH HOOD COMPLETELY SHUT. WE HAD THE ENGINE COMPLETELY COVERED WITH SNOW EVERY TIME WE DRIVE IT. NEVER HAD A VEHICLE LET THE WEATHER GET INTO THE ENGINE WITH THE HOOD SEALED.
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2017 SUBARU CROSSTREK THAT WAS SUBJECT TO A FAULTY WINDSHIELD RESULTING IN REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE HAD DEVELOPED A SPONTANEOUS CRACK FROM NO APPARENT OR OBVIOUS SOURCE OTHER THAN NORMAL CONDITIONS. SPECIFICALLY, THIS CRACK DEVELOPED OVERNIGHT WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY NOT IN MOTION AND NOT EXPOSED TO DAMAGE CAUSING DEBRIS. THE NEXT MORNING, AN INCONSPICUOUS CRACK AT ONLY A FEW MILLIMETERS APPEARED. OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT FEW DAYS, THE CRACK HAD GROWN TO TENS OF CENTIMETERS. THE END RESULT WAS AN UNSAFE AND HAZARDOUS WINDSHIELD CREATING VISIBILITY ISSUES AND A RISK OF INTEGRITY FAILURE. THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER AT FULL COST NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL AND WAS PAID FOR OUT OF POCKET. ATTACHED IS A COPY OF THE INVOICE WITH COSTS FOR THE WINDSHIELD PARTS AND LABOR.

THE WINDSHIELD ON MY 2017 CROSSTREK CHIPS TOO EASY. I HAVE NEVER HAD CHIPS ON ANY OTHER VEHICLES WINDSHIELD. THE GLASS MUST BE TOO SOFT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY CROSSTREK A FEW TIMES WHILE IN MOTION. MY TRANSMISSION FEELS LIKE IT SOMETIMES SLIPS, AND SHUDDERS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION.
WAS DRIVING ON CITY STREET WITH FAIRLY HIGH TRAFFIC. VERY HEAVY RAIN AND HUMIDITY. I TURNED ON DEFOGGER AND THE WINDSHIELD GOT INCREASINGLY MORE FOGGED UP. THE DEFOGGER DID NOT CLEAR THE WINDSHIELD. I HAD TO DRIVE AT 20 MPG TO AVOID A COLLISION. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE DEFOGGER. THE CAR IS TWO WEEKS OLD.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN THE AFTERNOON OF AUG. 23, 2018 WITH VERY LIGHT TRAFFIC AND IN A RURAL AREA, I NOTICED A CRACK STARTING UP FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD IN ABOUT THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. IT QUICKLY SPREAD UP SEVERAL INCHES (APPROX. 9 INCHES) THEN MADE A 90 DEGREE TURN TO THE LEFT IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER AND CONTINUED MOST OF THE WAY ACROSS THAT HALF OF THE WINDSHIELD. THERE WAS NO IMPACT OR ANY OTHER REASON FOR THE CRACK TO DEVELOP. THIS ALL HAPPENDED WITHIN ABOUT 20-30 MINUTES. THIS HAPPENED IN LATE AUGUST 2018. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC I CAME UP BEHIND A LARGE GRAVEL TRUCK AND A PIECE OF GRAVEL HIT THE WINDSHIELD EXACTLY AT THE CORNER OF THE CRACK. THIS QUICKLY SPREAD HORIZONTALLY TO THE RIGHT ACROSS MOST OF THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THIS HAPPENED IN LATE SEPTEMBER OR EARLY OCTOBER 2018. THE TRUCK EXITED THE FREEWAY AND I WASN'T ABLE TO SEE THE COMPANY NAME ANYWHERE ON THE VEHICLE. SO THERE IS NOW A T-SHAPED CRACK THAT EXTENDS ACROSS MOST OF THE LOWER PART OF THE WINDSHIELD
MY 13 MONTH OLD CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE FOR "NO APPARENT REASON".

I WAS SLOWLY PULLING INTO THE GARAGE AND WHEN I WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES, THE CAR UNCONTROLLABLY LUNGED FORWARD AND HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE FLOOR MAT WAS NOT AN ISSUE AND WAS SECURE. ALTHOUGH THE BRAKES WERE BEING APPLIED, THE CAR SUDDENLY LUNGED FORWARD.
MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. CRACK ORIGINATED UNDER THE WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES AND SPREAD WHEN I TURNED THE HEAT ON TO THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN I FIRST NOTICED THE CRACK, AT WHICH POINT IT WAS ALREADY APPROXIMATELY 7 INCHES LONG. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND ASKED THAT IT BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY SINCE THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE WINDSHIELD, AND THEY TOOK DETAILED PICTURES (CHARLIE'S SUBARU IN AUGUST, ME).
WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED. STARTED OUT ALONG BOTTOM ON DRIVER'S SIDE AND EXPANDED UP AND ACROSS DRIVER'S SIDE. FROM WHAT I COULD TELL, NOTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD TO INITIATE THE CRACK. HAD TO GET REPLACED.
DRIVING HOME AT NIGHT ON THE FREEWAY AND THEN A SUDDEN BOOM! SOUNDED LIKE A BRICK HIT THE ROOF OF THE CAR. FRIGHTEN A BIT BUT MANAGED TO PULL OVER AND THE NOTICED THE SUNROOF WAS SHATTERED. DROVE SOME SLOWLY AND LOOKED AT IT MORE WHEN I GOT HOME. I NOTICED THAT THE GLASS LOOKS LIKE IT BLEW UP LIKE A VOLCANO. IT BLEW OUTWARD. SO I STARTED SEARCHING IF THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE AND FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS WITH MANY MANUFACTURERS.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT IF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED, THEN THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 13,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE PASSENGER AND HIS WIFE ALSO RECEIVED BURNS ON THE BOTTOM LEFT AND RIGHT FOREARMS OF THE LEATHER SEATING SURFACES. THE CONTACT DID NOT RECEIVE MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR HIS INJURIES; HOWEVER, THE PASSENGER WENT TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CHEMICAL REACTIVE SECOND DEGREE BURNS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 396.
SIDE VIEW MIRRORS, BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT ARE MOUNTED 8'" BEHIND FRONT OF DOOR CREATING VERY LARGE BLIND SPOTS FOR DRIVER. FOR SHORT DRIVERS WHO DRIVE WITH THE SEAT IN A FORWARD POSITION THE VIEW THAT THE MIRROR PROVIDES IS VERY LIMITED.
