ENGINE BURNED OUT ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, METAL FILINGS IN CASE, NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON THE DASH AT ANY TIME. COME TO FIND OUT THERE IS NO LOW OIL LIGHT IN THIS VEHICLE! PLUS, THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THIS YEAR/MAKE/MODEL FOR EXCESS ENGINE OIL USE. SERVICED THIS CAR AT ALL RECOMMENDED INTERVALS AND NEVER LET OIL CHANGES GO BEYOND THE RECOMMENDED MILEAGE. HAVE BEEN VERY FAITHFUL WITH CARING FOR THIS VEHICLE. THE OIL CHANGE WAS NOT DUE FOR ANOTHER 1,000 MILES WHEN THIS OCCURRED. SUBARU DEALERSHIP NEAREST TO WHERE THE ENGINE FAILED WAS UNHELPFUL AS WAS THE NATIONAL SUBARU COMPANY. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN SUBARU'S CUSTOMER SERVICE AS A WHOLE. DID NOT RECEIVE COMMUNICATION REGARDING THIS PROBLEM AND NO WARNING FROM SERVICE MANAGERS AT ANY TIME DURING SERVICING THE VEHICLE.
I HAVE A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER 2.5 PREMIUM THAT HAD BEEN CONSUMING AN EXORBITANT AMOUNT OF OIL EVER SINCE I GOT IT. IT REQUIRES THAT I ADD UP TO 1.2 QTS EVERY 2 MONTHS TO STAY ABOVE THE EMPTY LINE ON THE DIP STICK. MY BROTHER TOLD ME RECENTLY HE HEARD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON SOME SUBARU VEHICLES DURING MY YEAR DUE TO OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES. THEREFORE, I CHECKED MY VIN BOTH ON THIS WEBSITE AND DUBARU'S WEBSITE, BUT IT DIDN'T RETURN ANYTHING REGARDING THE OIL CONSUMPTION. CAN I GET SOME HELP WITH THIS ISSUE AS MY WARRANTY HAD ALREADY EXPIRED AND THIS ISSUE MAY BE GETTING WORSE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH THE HELP OF A POLICE OFFICER. SUBARU OF GWINNETT (2920 SATELLITE BLVD, DULUTH, GEORGIA 30096) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS ALSO ASSESSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
"TAKATA RECALL" I WAS PARKING MY CAR IN A REGULAR PARKING SPACE.ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR JUMPED THE CURB . ONLY A TREE STOPPED THE CAR.THEIR WAS DAMAGE ON THE FRONT OF THE CAR.TWO OTHER TIMES THE CAR JUMPED WHEN I WAS PARKING BUT NOT AS BAD AS WHEN I HIT THE TREE.I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. ALL THREE TIMES I WAS TRYING TO PARK.
OUR SUBARU FORESTER BEGAN TICKING, LIKE A LIFTER WAS STICKING, AND THE OIL LEVEL OF THE SYNTHETIC OIL WAS PERFECT. THEN THE CAR BEGAN TO HAVE A BURNING SMELL FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WE TOOK THE CAR TO OUR DEALER HUEBUEGER, COLO. SPRINGS, COLORADO. THE TECH INFORMED US THAT THE CAR HAD TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS ABOUT THESE ISSUES. THE TECH ALSO SAID THAT A TSB IS ISSUED BY AN AUTO MAKER WHEN THERE IS A GROWING TREND WITH AN UNANTICIPATED PROBLEM, BUT DOES NOT WARRANT A RECALL. HE SAID THE IRREGULAR STAMPING OF CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PLATES CAUSED THE EVENTUAL TICKING AND LEAKING FROM THE CAMSHAFT CARRIER ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ENGINE AND THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR VEHICLE NOW WARRANTING A $4,500 REPAIR. SINCE THE ISSUE HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS A FACTORY DEFECT I CALLED SUBARU SUPPORT EXPECTING FINANCIAL HELP TO RID THE CAR OF THE DEFECT. THE WOMAN WAS VERY OBTUSE AND PRETENDED NOT TO UNDERSTAND THE ISSUE OF RESPONSIBILITY OF SUBARU. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE REASON FOR TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS BEING RELEASED ONLY TO DEALERSHIPS AND MECHANICS. ISN'T IT LOGICAL AND REASONABLE TO ALERT THE OWNERS OF VEHICLES THAT MAY DEVELOP OIL LEAKS THAT COULD LEAD TO A VEHICLE FIRE ? ISN'T SUBARU ADMITTING RESPONSIBILITY BY ISSUING A TSB FOR A GROWING TREND WITH AN UNANTICIPATED PROBLEM. IT SEEMS IRRESPONSIBLE FOR THE NHTSA AND SUBARU NOT TO NOTIFY OWNERS OF IDENTIFIED PROBLEMS THAT COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES. PLEASE RESPOND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, I AM 69 YEARS OLD AND THIS ISSUE AND THE FINANCIAL STRAIN IS VERY IMPORTANT. THE APPLICABLE COMMUNICATION #"S OF THE TSB IS 02-131-12R OF OCT. 2, 2012, 060000 ENGINE (PWS). SB-11-100 HR, NOVEMBER 27, 2012, IRREGULAR STAMPING OF CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PLATE. THE BURNING SMELL BECAME OVERPOWERING ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE TECH ADVISES THAT AN OIL LEAK IS COMING FROM THE CAM CARRIERS ON BOTH SIDES DEFECTS
THERE IS AN OIL LEAK IN THE HEAD GASKET AND CAMSHAFT SEAL. THIS CAUSES OIL TO DRIP AND BURN SMOKE. THERE IS A FIRE RISK TO THIS. THE COST OF REPAIRING THIS IS EXTREMELY HIGH. THIS SEEMS TO BE A FAULTY PART OF ALL SUBARU FORESTERS OF THIS TIME PERIOD.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 19V008000 (AIR BAGS) AND 14V830000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. JOHN HOWARD SUBARU (1730 MILEGROUND RD, MORGANTOWN, WV 26505, (866) 219-7316) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
FAILED CONSUMPTION OIL TEST. ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED .I WAS TOLD BY SUBARU THAT THEIR WAS NO RECALL .MY SECOND SUBARU FORESTER 2013 HAD SAME PROBLEM AND ITS ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED.
TAKATA RECALL: I ASKED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP IN SAN FRANCISCO TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR, AND THERE IS A 9 TO 12 MONTHS WAIT LIST. THEY ARE BASICALLY REFUSING TO DO THE REPAIRS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT NOTICED AN ABNORMAL KNOCKING SOUND IN THE ENGINE. DURING ROUTINE INSPECTION, THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE TECHNICIAN ADDED THREE QUARTS OF OIL TO THE ENGINE. MID-HUDSON SUBARU (1715 U.S. 9, WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY) WAS CONTACTED, BUT A DIAGNOSTIC WAS NOT PERFORMED DUE TO SCHEDULING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 66,000.
THE VEHICLE STALLS IN TRAFFIC AND AT A STOPS, PROBLEM BEGAN IN DECEMBER 2017 AND THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED IMMEDIATELY. IN JANUARY 2018 IT WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED SUBARU DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE 60000 MILE SERVICE WAS PERFORMED, IT CONTINUED TO STALL AND WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS WERE REPLACED AND IT STALLED IN TRAFFIC WHEN IT WAS PICKED UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP, IT WAS RETURNED. THE WIRING HARNESS IS NOW BEING REPLACED. SUBARU FIELD TECHNICIANS AND DEALERSHIP TECHNICIANS HAVE TRIED TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE.
CAM CARRIER OIL SEEPAGE LEAKING ONTO MANIFOLD AND CAUSING OIL SMELL. THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN THESE CARS STARTING WITH LITTLE MILEAGE. OIL SEEPS OUT ONTO THE MANIFOLD, AND BURN CAUSING AN OIL SMELL EVERY TIME WE COME TO A STOP, PARTICULARLY DOWNHILL. POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD
WHEN I PARKING MY CAR INTO THE PARKING PLACE, THE CAR SUDDENLY GAVE A ROAR AND RUSHED INTO SOMEONE'S BACKYARD. ALTHOUGH I PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL AS DEEP AS POSSIBLE, THE CAR RUSHED AROUND 10 METERS(?) AND FULLY STOPPED AFTER THE CAR HIT THE RODS OF WOOD STAIRCASE(TWO OF THE RODS OF STAIRCASE WAS BOKEN BY MY CAR). AT THAT MOMENT I JUST WANT SHIFT THE CAR FROM "D" TO "R" (BUT NOT YET), THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION HAPPENED TO THIS CAR. TIME: IT HAPPENED BETWEEN 2:30 TO 3:00 PM ON NOV 30, 2017. PLACE: RUSHED INTO THE BACKYARDS OF 8352 KAVANAGH RD, DUNDALK MD 21222, THIS BACKYARDS LOCATED ON SANDY PLAINS ROAD. CONSEQUENCE: 1. SCRATCHS TO FRONT BUMPER. 2. FRONT BUMPER BECAME LOOSE AFTER COLLISION HAPPENED TO THE ROD OF STAIRCASE. 3. I HAVE STIFF MUSCLES ON BOTH THIGHS FOR TWO DAYS AFTER THIS ACCIDENT.
MY 2011 SUBARU FORESTER WITH 65,700 MILES ON IT IS SLUGGISH INTO GEAR WHEN FIRST STARTING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED ME IT NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION ($5500+). I THINK THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. I READ IN FORBES THAT THERE WAS AN EXTENSION OF THE WARRANTY (SEE HTTPS://WWW.FORBES.COM/SITES/JENSEN/2017/07/07/FACING-COMPLAINTS-SUBARU-OFFERS-EXTENDED-WARRANTIES-ON-1-5-MILLION-VEHICLES/#662FD3AC79DC) AND WONDER IF THIS COVERS MY VEHICLE?
THE REMOTE STARTER STARTS THE IGNITION AFTER ONE, TWO, THREE, OR 4 PRESSES. VEHICLE IS STATIONARY. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MANY OCCASIONS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SIERRA SUBARU OF MONROVIA (735 E CENTRAL AVE, MONROVIA, CA 91016, (800)-351-3188) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL LINE WAS LEAKING FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED TO PAY $1,000 TOWARDS THE REPAIR COST SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE AT 60,000 MILES WAS DUE TO VALVE SPRING FAILURE. THE VALVE SPRING FAILED DUE TO FATIGUE. FATIGUE INITIATED AT A HIGH STRESS LOCATION NEAR A SUBSURFACE NON-METALLIC SLAG PARTICLE. SURFACE CRACKING WAS NOTED ON THE VALVE SPRING AT LOCATIONS NEAR THE FRACTURE ORIGIN.
THIS IS AN OLDER CAR BUT STILL SERVICEABLE. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON SOMETIMES ACCOMPANIED BY A SEATBELT WARMING, WHENEVER A PASSENGER IS SEATED AND THE CAR IS MOVING. ALSO A MESSAGE LIGHT INDICATES THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS OFF. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A SUBARU DEALER TO SEE WHAT COULD BE DONE. THE ONLY REMEDY OFFERED WAS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE SEAT AT A COST EXCEEDING $2000. NOT COST EFFECTIVE FOR WHAT AMOUNTS TO DEFECTIVE WEIGHT SENSORS. WE HAVE NOTED THAT NEWER SUBAR'S HAVE HAD THE SENSORS RECALLED. WE REQUEST THAT THE RECALL BE EXTENDED TO ALL AFFECTED SUBARU VEHICLES.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN PORTLAND OREGON AND STOPPED AT A LIGHT, AS I BEGAN TO ACCELERATE GOING UP A SLIGHT HILL I NOTICED AN AWFUL SMELL LIKE BURNING OIL OR TRANNY FLUID. I PICKED UP A FAMILY MEMBERS TO GO TO AN APPOINTMENT AND THEY SMELLED IT ALSO. IT WENT AWAY AS I CONTINUED BUT THEN NEXT HILL AND THE SMELL CAME BACK PRETTY STRONG. I FOUND A SUBARU DEALER/SERVICE DEPT. NEAR BY AND DROVE THERE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT ENGINE SEAL AND CAM CARRIERS WERE LEAKING OIL ONTO THE EXHAUST. I ASKED IF IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND THEY SAID NOT TOO FAR BECAUSE ITS LEAKING OIL. NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO MY NORMAL SUBARU SERVICE DEPT. AND THEY VERIFIED WHAT THE OTHER SERVICE DEPT. HAD TOLD ME WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SAYING IT WAS OK TO DRIVE IT. THEY COULDN'T GET ME IN FOR AT LEAST A WEEK. MY SUBARU FORESTER ONLY HAS 61,738 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE NEVER MISSED A MAINTENANCE SERVICE. I'M AFRAID NOW BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED A FEW MONTHS AGO AND I LOST MY JOB OF 10 YEARS JUST BEFORE TURNING 62. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BECAUSE I THOUGHT SUBARU WAS A GOOD LONG LASTING CAR. I'VE LOOKED AND IT APPEARS THAT REPAIRS COULD BE AS MUCH AS $2300. IT ALSO APPEARS FROM MY RESEARCH THAT THESE ENGINES HAVE OIL LEAK PROBLEMS AS WELL AS OTHER SERIOUS ENGINE PROBLEMS. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR THIS REPAIR. THIS SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING. WHY ISN'T THERE A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT FOR THESE ENGINES AND ALL THE MONEY ITS COSTING ALL THESE FOLKS BECAUSE OF FAILURES. I AM A QUALITY REP FOR THE AEROSPACE INDUSTRY AND THIS JUST WOULDN'T BE ACCEPTABLE IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM!
UNKNOWN ORIGIN. VEHICLE EMITS STRONG FOUL BURNING OIL/RUBBER SMELL. SUBARU HAS CHECKED USING AN OIL LEAK TEST SHOWS IT IS NOT BURNING OIL. THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER SMELL COMPLAINTS, BUT SUBARU SAYS THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE CAUSE IS. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS COMPLAINT, BUT SAYS IT IS RELATED TO AN OIL LEAK. PEOPLE NEARBY MAKE COMMENTS ABOUT THE FOUL SMELLING SUBARU.
TWO MONTHS AFTER BUYING THE CAR USED FROM A DEALER, I NOTICED THAT IT SMELLED 'OILY', LIKE AN OLD CAR THAT HAD BEEN SITTING WITHOUT BEING STARTED. I CHECKED THE OIL AND THE CAR WAS ALMOST DRY AFTER ABOUT 1900 MILES FROM PICKING IT UP FROM THE DEALER. IT HAS USED OIL EXCESSIVELY EVER SINCE. I NEED ABOUT 1 QT, SOMETIMES MORE, EVERY 500 MILES. AFTER DRIVING, IT ALWAYS HAS THAT HOT OLD OIL SMELL TO THE ENGINE, LIKE A VERY OLD CAR. I'VE TAKEN IT TO SEVERAL INDEPENDENT GARAGES BUT THEY CANNOT FIND A LEAK, SO IT MUST BE THAT THE OIL IS SOMEHOW BURNING. WHEN I ASK WHERE THE OIL IS GOING, THEY EITHER TELL ME "IT'S A SUBARU" WITH A SHRUG, AS THOUGH THIS IS TO BE EXPECTED, OR THEY SAY THAT PERHAPS I'M NOT NOTICING HOW FAR I'VE DRIVEN. ON ACCELERATION, THE ENGINE TICKS AND RATTLES LIKE IT IS OUT OF OIL. AT HIGH SPEEDS (60+MPH), THE ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE IT IS STRAINING. THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT LIGHTS UP DURING INITIAL STARTING, BUT NEVER COMES ON WHILE IDLING OR DRIVING, NO MATTER HOW LOW THE OIL GETS. THIS PUTS ME AT RISK TO BLOW THE ENGINE WITH NO WARNING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, A TICKING NOISE EMERGED FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE OIL WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SLOW DOWN AND THEN STOPPED. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE, RAISED THE HOOD, AND OBSERVED SMOKE AROUND THE DIPSTICK. THE CONTACT CHECKED THE OIL AND FOUND THAT THE RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, BUT IT WAS CLOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT OF A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN RELATED TO THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE, BUT THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE EVALUATED AND THEN DRIVEN 1,200 MILES IN ORDER FOR THEM TO REPLACE THE ENGINE BLOCK ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
THE WIPERS CLOG WITH ICE AND DO NOT CLEAR THE WINDSHIELD WELL. THEY FREEZE INTO THE WELL BETWEEN THE HOOD AND THE WINDSHIELD. I HAVE TO PHYSICALLY CHOP THEM LOOSE WITH AN ICE SCRAPER IN VERY COLD WEATHER. CHUNKS OF ICE STICK TO THE BLADES AND DO NOT RELEASE, RESULTING IN BLADES THAT DO NOT MAKE FULL CONTACT WITH THE GLASS. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT TYPES OF BLADES INCLUDING WHATEVER THEY SELL AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WINTER ICE BLADES. THEY DRAG AND SMEAR DURING RAIN OR SNOW, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE CLEARLY. I THINK THE WIPER BODY IS NOT STIFF ENOUGH TO CLEAR THE WINDSHIELD EFFECTIVELY, EVEN WHEN THERE IS ONLY RAIN AND NO SNOW OR ICE. I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER (SUBARU OF WATERVILLE, ME) AND WAS OFFERED NEW BLADES, AND HAD IT SUGGESTED THAT I USE ''QUALITY" WIPER FLUID.
ABNORMAL OIL CONSUMPTION WHICH IS OF THE OIL CONSUMPTION LAWSUIT. THE OIL WARNING LIGHTS DID NOT TURN BUT THE CAR WAS ALREADY OUT OF OIL IN 3 MONTHS OF USE (SUPPOSEDLY 6 MONTH WINDOW FOR OIL CHANGES). THE CAR STARTED TO BECOME JERKY BUT STILL MANAGED TO GET HOME AND HAD IT CHECKED. IF THERE ARE NO WARNING SIGNS, IT IS POSSIBLE IT CAN DIE IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY, WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
MY WIFE AND I CURRENTLY OWN A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER WE PURCHASED NEW FROM HATFIELD SUBARU IN COLUMBUS, OHIO. WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD IT SERVICED AT BYERS DUBLIN SUBARU IN COLUMBUS OHIO. AT THE 25,000 MILE MARK BOTH HEAD GASKETS WERE LEAKING SO THE MECHANICS AT BYERS PULLED THE MOTOR AND REPLACED THEM. JUST RECENTLY AT THE 33,000 MILE MARK I BROUGHT IN MY VEHICLE TO BYERS FOR MY 30,000 MAINTENANCE CHECK ALSO COMPLAINING OF A STRANGE NOISE. THEY INFORMED ME THE HEAD GASKET WAS LEAKING AGAIN AND THE NOISE WE HEARD WAS THE TRANSMISSION RUNNING LOW ON FLUID. THEY AGAIN PULLED THE MOTOR AND MADE REPAIRS, HOWEVER, WHEN PLACING THE MOTOR BACK IN THE CAR A STRANGE NOISE DEVELOPED IN THE ENGINE, THEY AGAIN PULLED THE MOTOR ADJUSTING THE TENSIONING ON THE TIMING CHAIN YET THE NOISE WAS STILL PRESENT. THEY THEN CONTACTED SUBARU TECHNICAL SUPPORT ASKING FOR ASSISTANCE. THEY ARE CURRENTLY PULLING THE MOTOR FOR THE FOURTH TIME WITH THE INTENTION ON REPLACING THE CYLINDER HEADS AND CAM SHAFT. UP UNTIL NOW I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH BOTH DEALERSHIPS EXPRESSING MY CONCERNS. I HAVE ALSO SPOKEN WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE, A SUPERVISOR, AND A MANAGER AT SUBARU OF AMERICA. THE MANAGER AT SUBARU HEADQUARTERS SAID THEY COULD ONLY OFFER ME 2500.00 TOWARDS THE PURCHASE OF A NEW VEHICLE THE MANAGER AT HATFIELD WHERE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE FROM PASSED ME OFF TO A SALES ASSOCIATE WHO ONLY WANTED TO SELL ME A NEW SUBARU AT FULL PRICE TO MEET HIS END OF THE MONTH FEBRUARY SALES QUOTA. THE MANAGER AT BYERS WHERE MY CAR IS BEING SERVICED HAS BEEN LESS THEN FORTH COMING AS TO THE TRUE STATUS OF MY VEHICLE AND I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM HIM AS TO THE STATUS OF MY VEHICLE AS PROMISED IN THE LAST FOUR BUSINESS DAYS. WHAT CONCERNS ME THE MOST IS MY WIFE AND I NOW OWN A SUBARU WITH A LONG LIST OF ENGINE PROBLEMS SO EARLY IN ITS LIFE AND A TRANSMISSION WHICH HAS BEEN EX
SOFT BRAKE PEDAL THAT CONTINUES DOWN TO FLOOR AFTER PRESSURE APPLIED ; ESPECIALLY WHEN ENGINE COLD OR WHEN ON AN INCLINE. FIRST BROUGHT TO SUBARU OF NEW BERN, N.C. ON AUGUST 8, 2016 WHERE THEY REPLACED BRAKE FLUID. PROBLEM CONTINUED; ON SEPT. 13, 2016 THE MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED UNDER EXTENTED WARRANTEE. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS; SERVICE MANAGER DROVE CAR AND AGREED WITH MY COMPLAINT. HE ALSO DROVE A 2015 MODEL AND SAME THING HAPPENED. ON SEPT. 27TH, MANAGER AUTHORIZED REPLACEMENT AGAIN OF THE MASTER CYLINDER AND VACUUM BOOSTER PUMP. PARTS ORDERED. TODAY IS OCTOBER 11TH, AND NO PARTS RECEIVED YET. SUBARU OF AMERICA, CHERRY HILL, N.J. HAS BEEN NOTIFIED 9-15-16, BUT NO ACTION TAKEN YET.
TAKATA RECALL I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM SUBARU REGARDING MY FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG. THE NOTICE INCLUDED A NOTE THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS UNSAFE FOR USE UNTIL THE AIRBAG HAS BEEN REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE NOTICE ALSO STATED THAT NO REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO REACH SUBARU 'CORPORATE CUSTOMER CARE' ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND AM UNABLE TO REACH ANY REPRESENTATIVE BY PHONE. I HAVE EMAILED THE SAME OFFICE AND, SO FAR, HAVE RECEIVED NO RESPONSE. WHEN I CALLED THE LOCAL AUTHORIZED DEALER FROM WHOM I PURCHASED THE CAR AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE NO UPDATE ON WHEN REPLACEMENT PARTS MIGHT BE AVAILABLE BUT THEY ANTICIPATE IT COULD BE "A FEW MONTHS". IN THE MEANTIME I HAVE A CAR THAT IS UNSAFE FOR NORMAL USE, AND A MANUFACTURER THAT IS BOTH UNABLE TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE PARTS AND SEEMINGLY UNWILLING TO ANSWER QUESTIONS REGARDING THE ISSUE.

THE NOTIFICATION TOLD ME NOT TO USE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT UNTIL WHENEVER THE PARTS MIGHT BECOME AVAILABLE (WHEN? MONTHS? YEARS?). MEANWHILE I CANNOT USE THE VEHICLE AS INTENDED AS A 5 SEAT FAMILY CAR. IS THIS NOT A VIOLATION OF IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY? THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.

THEY DIRECTED ME TO THEIR 1-800 NUMBER BUT I KEEP ON BEING PLACE ON HOLD AND CAN'T GET THRU. I HAVE A FAMILY OF 4 AND IT'S BEEN EXTREMELY INCONVENIENT TO NOT BE ABLE TO HAVE SIT A FRONT PASSENGER. VEHICLES HORN STARTED ALARMING AND WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. VEHICLE WAS MOVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT WHEN THIS HAPPENED. PASSERBY ATTEMPTED TO HELP THE DRIVER BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF AND THE HORN STILL SOUNDED. A SECOND PERSON HELPED REMOVE A FUSE WHICH FINALLY STOPPED THE HORN. WE THEN HAD TO DRIVE WITHOUT A NEEDED HORN. A DEALER WAS NOTIFIED FOR REPAIR. THE REPAIR, TO OUR GREAT SURPRISE, REQUIRED A NEW AIRBAG INSTALLED AS WELL AS THE AIRBAG-HORN SWITCH. THIS REPAIR WAS TO BE VERY EXPENSIVE. MANY CALLS WERE MADE INCLUDING TO OUR OWN DEALER IN THE NE. ALL AGREED TO THE REPAIR DIAGNOSIS GIVEN. THE AIRBAG HAD TO BE TRUCK SHIPPED TO OUR LOCATION, REQUIRING AN EXTENDED STAY AT A LODGING. THE ACTUAL REPAIR WAS VERY SPEEDY. TO OUR GRATEFUL SURPRISE, SUBARU DID NOT CHARGE US FOR THE REPLACEMENT AIR-BAG OR HORN-SWITCH. THERE WAS AT NO TIME ANY CAR IMPACT STARTING THIS WHOLE EVENT. THE REPAIR/REPLACEMENT HAD TO BE DONE AS WE WERE IN FL AND HAD 1500 MILES TO TRAVEL...NOT VIABLE WITH NO HORN OR DRIVER AIRBAG. THIS WAS A 2011 FORESTER WITH LOW MILEAGE.
MY SUBARU IS BEING TESTED FOR OIL CONSUMPTION USE, I RETURNED WITH 1 1/2 QUART LOW AFTER 948 MILES. TECH STATED IT WAS ON FULL AFTER IT WAS TAKEN TO GARAGE. IT WAS NOT CHECKED IN OUR PRESENCE. CAR HAS NO OIL SENSOR AND I FEAR THE MOTOR WILL LOCK UP & I DO NOT TRUST THE SUBARU DEALER NOW SINCE THEY DENIED ADDING OIL.
INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR CAME LOOSE AND DANGLED FROM THE ELECTRIC CORD IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER'S VISION. THIS HAPPENED AFTER THE MIRROR WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY.
AS I WAS PULLING INTO A HEAD ON PARKING SPACE, I BEGAN TO APPLY MY BRAKES AND MY CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO PUMP MY BRAKES AND STOP THE CAR. A WITNESS WHO WAS SITTING ON A BENCH NEARBY SAID HE HEARD MY CARBURETOR REV. I AM NOW SCARED TO DEATH TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, THE SUN VISOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FELL ON ITS OWN, OBSTRUCTING MY VIEW. WHEN I PUSHED IT BACK UP IT PROMPTLY FELL BACK DOWN - IT WOULD NOT STAY IN ANY OTHER POSITION BUT HANGING STRAIGHT DOWN. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND GET A SCREW DRIVER TO REMOVE THE VISOR TO KEEP IT FROM OBSTRUCTING MY VIEW. NOW MY DRIVER SIDE VISOR IS STARTING TO NOT STAY COMPLETELY UP AGAINST THE CEILING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN TWO WAYS, ONE BECAUSE IT DOES NOT STAY UP AND OBSTRUCTS MY VIEW, AND TWO IT CAN NOT BE USED AS A SUN VISOR (AS INTENDED) TO KEEP THE SUN FROM BLINDING ME. MY VEHICLE IS ONLY FOUR-YEARS OLD; I DID CONTACT THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO RECALL, AND IT IS NOT COVERED AS A SAFETY ISSUE. SINCE BOTH OF MY VISORS APPEAR TO BE BAD, I BELIEVE THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW AND A LOT OF VEHICLES WILL START HAVING THIS PROBLEM.
ON JUNE 8 2015 I ATTENDED A MEETING. WHEN THE MEETING ENDED AT 8 PM, IT WAS RAINING HARD. I HURRIED TO THE CAR, OPENED THE DRIVER?S DOOR WITH MY LEFT HAND AND SMACKED THE CORNER OF THE DOOR INTO MY LEFT EYEBROW. THE BLEEDING WAS SUBSTANTIAL, DRIPPING LARGE DROPS ONTO THE GROUND AND ONTO MY DRESS. A STRANGER STOPPED, ADVISING ME TO KEEP CONTINUAL PRESSURE ON THE WOUND UNTIL IT STOPPED BLEEDING. EVENTUALLY IT DID SO AND I DROVE HOME ONE-HANDED WITH THE OTHER KEEPING PRESSURE ON MY FOREHEAD. SINCE THE BLEEDING HAD ENDED, A PRESSURE BANDAGE KEPT IT STOPPED FOR THE NIGHT. THE BLACK EYE HAS FADED. THERE IS NO PERMANENT DAMAGE EXCEPT FOR A 5/8" SCAR ACROSS MY EYEBROW AND A RUINED DRESS. INSPECTING THE DOOR THE NEXT MORNING, I REALIZED THE CORNER OF THE DOOR COMES TO AN ACUTE ANGLE. THE DOOR ITSELF IS WEATHERSTRIPPED AND HAS A RUBBER GASKET. BUT THE EXPOSED METAL CORNER OF THE DOOR HAS NO PROTECTION. IT IS TOTALLY EXPOSED! I HAVE THE MISFORTUNE OF BEING A 5?8? FEMALE WHOSE EYE HEIGHT MEETS THE CORNER OF THE DOOR. I ALSO HAVE THE MISFORTUNE OF BEING LEFT-HANDED SO I OPEN THE DOOR WITH MY PRIMARY HAND. (OPENING A DRIVER?S DOOR WITH THE RIGHT HAND OFFERS SOME PROTECTION BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION OF THE ARM.) SUBSEQUENT TO THIS EVENT, I WROTE SUBARU CORPORATE AS WELL AS THE LOCAL DEALER. THEIR REPLY THANKED ME FOR SUGGESTING A DESIGN CONCEPT (I THINK THAT WAS THE PHRASE). A 'GOODY BOX' FROM SUBARU ARRIVED SHORTLY THEREAFTER.
