AIRBAG SENSOR FOR FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS DEFECTIVE. SRS WARNING LIGHT REMAINS ON MOST OF THE TIME THAT THE CAR IS RUNNING. LIGHTS INDICATE AIRBAG IS OFF EVEN WITH PASSENGER IN SEAT. DEALER HAS CHECKED COMPUTER; TOLD ME THAT I MAY HAVE CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE SENSOR, USUALLY WITH WATER. SEAT HAS NEVER BEEN WET NOR HAVE WE DONE ANYTHING THAT COULD DAMAGE THE SENSOR. GOOGLE SEARCH BRINGS UP NUMEROUS CASES OF SAME ISSUE, INDICATING A POSSIBLE WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. I AM ADVOCATING FOR A RECALL TO REPAIR THIS DEFECT.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE EARLY 2016, CURRENTLY UNDER 40K MILES. THE SIDE PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING SUDDENLY CAME ON STATING THE SRS SYSTEM NEEDS CHECKED. THE WARNING COMES AND DISAPPEARS SPORADICALLY. I TRIED WIGGLING AND TIGHTENING THE CONNECTION UNDERNEATH THE SEAT AND THE LIGHT WAS GONE FOR OVER A MONTH BUT IT CAME BACK AGAIN.

WHEN THE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AGAIN, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO SUGGESTED THE CONTACT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER BECAUSE THE DEFECT MAY BE INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO #1 COCHRAN SUBARU OF BUTLER COUNTY (340 NEW CASTLE RD, BUTLER, PA 16001, 888-230-0231) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A SENSOR FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BY LETTER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,767. *DT CONSUMER STATED NO EDITS EXCEPT TO SAY SUBARU REIMBURSED ME THE ENTIRE AMT I PAID FOR THE REPAIRS AT #1 COCKRAN IN BUTLER. THE CONTACT CALLED FLATIRONS SUBARU AT 877-464-2714 LOCATED AT 5995 ARAPAHOE AVE, BOULDER, CO 80303) AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE CHECKED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CAR HAS HAD INTERMITTENT SRS ERRORS STARTING SHORTLY AFTER BUYING THE CAR IN SUMMER OF 2016. WE HAVE HAD IT CHECKED OUT AND NOTHING WAS EVER FOUND. THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE ANY CONSISTANCY AS TO WHEN THE "SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE CHECKED" MESSAGE APPEARS. SOMETIMES WEEKS GO BY WITH NO ERRORS. SOMETIMES IT WILL GO ON AND NOT APPEAR THE NEXT TIME THE CAR IS STARTED. MY CONCERN IS THE SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM IS NOT FUNCTION WHEN NEEDED. I AM LISTING THE MOST RECENT DATE THIS HAS HAPPENED BELOW BUT AS STATED IT HAS BEEN INTERMITTENT FOR YEARS.
TAKATA RECALL- WHEN DRIVING THE PASSENGER SEATBELT LIGHT SWITCHES OFF EVEN WHEN THE SEAT IS OCCUPIED. I CANNOT LET ANYONE OCCUPY THE SEAT BECAUSE I FEEL IT IS NOT SAFE.
SUBARU IS AWARE OF FAULTY COMPONENTS IN THEIR AC COMPRESSOR/CLUTCH ASSEMBLY BUT REFUSE TO ISSUE A RECALL. THE COMPONENTS FALL APART AFTER A CERTAIN TIME. THEY ISSUED A TSB TO THEIR DEALERS AND TECHNICIANS ABOUT THE ISSUE BUT NEVER NOTIFIED ME ABOUT THE ISSUE WHEN THE TICKET WAS CREATED ONLY 4 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING MY VEHICLE.
INTERMITTENT IGNITION ISSUE WILL NOT ALWAYS RELEASE KEY WHEN AUTO IS TURNED OFF. THE POSITION OF THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMS TO AFFECT IT.DOES NOT ALLOW ROTATION TO THE RELEASE KEY POSITION.SOMETIMES I HAVE TO TURN AUTO BACK ON, BACK OUT, AND PULL IN WITH WHEELS AND STEERING WHEEL IN PERFECT STRAIGHT ALIGNMENT, WHICH SEEMS TO ALLOW ME TO TURN KEY TO RELEASE KEY POSITION.
FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSORS ERRATICALLY REPORT A MALFUNCTION AND SUGGEST AN INSPECTION. THIS HAS HAPPENED BOTH WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AS WELL AS STATIONARY. IT HAS HAPPENED BOTH WITH AND WITHOUT A FRONT SEAT OCCUPANT. I CALLED SUBARU AMERICA AND BROUGHT THE CAR INTO NAPLETON SUBARU ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL ON JULY 24, 2019. ON THAT DATE I COULD NOT RECREATE THE ERROR MESSAGES. NAPLETON INSPECTED AND TOLD ME SYSTEM NEEDED A RESET WHICH THEY DID FREE OF CHARGE. SINCE THERE WAS NO ERROR MESSAGE EITHER IMMEDIATELY BEFORE OR AFTER THE VISIT, I HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING WHETHER RESET WAS EFFECTIVE. THE NEXT DAY THE ERROR MESSAGE WAS BACK. PICTURES ATTACHED AS WELL AS RECEIPT FROM NAPLETON DESCRIBING WORK PERFORMED. *TT CONSUMER STATED VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALER TWICE AND IS CURRENTLY WORKING PROPERLY, BUT CANNOT DETERMINE WHETHER THE AIR BAG ERROR MESSAGE HAS BEEN FALSELY ACTIVATED. OR IF THERE IS A REAL MALFUNCTION.*JB
THE AIRBAG SENSOR IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT RANDOMLY GOES OFF WHEN THERE'S A PASSENGER IN THE CAR OR NOT. THE SEAT BELT ALARM FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE GOES OFF WITHOUT A PASSENGER IN THE CAR. AIRBAG SENSOR SAYS "OFF" WITH A PASSENGER IN THE CAR. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE, AS I DO NOT KNOW IF THAT AIRBAG IS TRULY FUNCTIONAL, AND ALSO AN ANNOYANCE, AS THE SEATBELT ALARM DINGS WHILE I'M DRIVING.
MY VEHICLE ALL OF A SUDDEN BEGAN GIVING ME A PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG CENSOR ERROR. NO ACCIDENTS OCCURRED IT JUST OUT OF THE BLUE APPEARED. I HAD TO TAKE MY FORESTER TO THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP TO BE SERVICED WHERE THEY CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER AIR BAG.
THE REAR HATCH DOOR HAS OPENED THREE TIMES WITHOUT MY DOING ANYTHING TO OPEN IT.. EACH TIME I HAVE FOUND THE DOOR UP AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN PARKED OVERNIGHT IN MY CARPORT. I LIVE ALONE AND NO ONE ELSE HAS ACCESS TO THE ELECTRONIC CONTROLS.
MY VEHICLE IS SUBJECT TO A SAFETY RECALL (WUE-90). AFTER RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTICE, I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER AND REQUESTED AN APPOINTMENT TO ADDRESS THE SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS TOLD I COULD NOT GET AN APPOINTMENT UNTIL OCTOBER. HOWEVER, IF I SCHEDULED MY CAR FOR ANOTHER PAID SERVICE (A WHEEL ALIGNMENT) THEY WOULD FIX THE ISSUE WITHIN THREE WEEKS. MY QUESTIONS ARE: 1) CAN A DEALER POSTPONE A SAFETY RECALL FOR FIVE MONTHS? AND 2) CAN A DEALER REQUIRE A CUSTOMER TO PAY FOR ANOTHER SERVICE TO GET A TIMELY APPOINTMENT FOR A SAFETY RECALL?
ODS / AIR BAG LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF. DOESN'T MATTER IF SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT OR NOT. SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAYS WE DAMAGED THE SENSOR FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT. PART IS IN FOR REPAIR AND WE'RE TRYING TO SCHEDULE A TIME TO GET BACK INTO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE DO THE REPAIR AT OUR COST.
ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS 24 HOURS APART THE CAR STALLED (SEEMED TO DROP INTO NEUTRAL) AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ~80MPH AFTER GREATER THAN 1.5 HOURS OF DRIVING. THE RPM JUMPED UP AND THE CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION DESPITE PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. ONCE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN PARK THE ENGINE DIED. BOTH TIMES IT FAILED TO START AGAIN WITH MULTIPLE SPACED OUT ATTEMPTS OVER MORE THAN 2 HOURS. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND BOTH TIMES AFTER BEING UNLOADED HOURS LATER IT STARTED WITH NO ISSUE AND THE DEALERS COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG AND SENT US HOME. A VERY UNSAFE INTERMITTENT ISSUE WITH NO OBVIOUS CAUSE OR FIX.
TOOK SUBURU IN FOR 30,000 MILE CHECK A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. TOLD DEALERSHIP THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS INACTIVATED (CAUTION LIGHT ON) WHILE MY WIFE SAT IN THE SEAT. DEALER SAID "IT PROBABLY GOT WET". I TOLD DEALER REP WE ALWAYS GARAGE OUR CARS AND WE HAVEN'T SPILLED ANYTHING ON THE SEAT. THEY TOLD US IT WOULD COST OVER $1000 TO FIX IT. AS WE LEFT THEY SAID THE CAUTION LIGHT WENT OUT, BUT IT WAS ON AGAIN BEFORE WE GOT HOME (ABOUT 40 MILES). AT THIS TIME THE CAUTION LIGHT STAYS ON ALMOST CONTINUALLY. SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY/RECALL ISSUE TO ME.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED OVER NIGHT. DID SEE SMALL ROCK IMPACT BUT WEIRD WINDSHIELD CRACKED ALL THE WAY UP OVER NIGHT.
PROBLEMS SCHEDULING AN APPOINTMENT WITH CARBONE SUBARU ON COMMERCIAL DRIVE, YORKVLLE NY. 1: COULDN'T GET THROUGH ON PHONE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. CALLED NUMEROUS TIMES AND LISTENED TO THEIR OBNOXIOUS PROMOTIONAL SPEECH TO MANY TIMES AND NEVER GOT A PERSON. TRIED LEAVING A MESSAGE AND NOBODY CALLED BACK. WENT IN PERSON AND THEY SAID THE EARLIES THEY COULD SCHEDULE ME IN WAS THE LAST WEEK IN JULY!
NOTICED A CRACK IN MY FRONT WINDSHIELD ONE MORNING WHEN I GOT IN MY CAR AND BY THE END OF THE DAY THE CRACK HAD MOVED INTO MY LINE OF VISION AND WOULD HAVE IMPAIRED MY DRIVING, IF I WOULD HAVE NOT FIXED IMMEDIATELY I HAD IT IMMEDIATELY FIXED BY SAFELIGHT, WHICH COST $452.03
AROUND 75K MILES, THE "AT TEMP" LIGHT BEGAN TO APPEAR WHEN DRIVING THE CAR FOR MORE THAN 35-40 MINUTES ON THE HIGHWAY AT CONTINUOUS SPEEDS. NO CODE WAS STORED WHEN IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE PICTURES OF THIS LIGHT BEING ON NUMEROUS TIMES. THIS HAPPENED BETWEEN MAY 2019-AUGUST 2019 THEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHUDDER WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, WITH OCCASIONAL STALLS/SHUTDOWNS. NO LIGHTS WOULD COME OUT DURING SHUDDER OR STALL. THIS HAPPENED BETWEEN MAY 2019-FEBRUARY 2020 AT 98K, VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK AND SHUDDER DURING SHIFTING, AROUND 2500RPM UPON ACCELERATION. I HAD A TRANSMISSION SERVICE/ CVT FLUID CHANGE DONE AT 90K AT JOHNSTON'S SUBARU IN MIDDLETOWN, NY. TRANSMISSION SERVICE WAS DONE 2/3/2020
SMALL CHIP IN WINDSHIELD ON HIGHWAY TURNED INTO LARGE CRACK REQUIRING WHOLE WINDSHIELD TO BE REPLACED AND VISION SYSTEM RECALIBRATED. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME REPLACING THE WINDSHIELD SINCE PURCHASING IT IN 2016
IN EARLY MAY 2019, THE VEHICLE STARTED GIVING AIRBAG WARNINGS AND DISABLING THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WAS OCCUPIED. I REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO MY SUBARU DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR ROUTINE SERVICE A COUPLE WEEKS LATER. IT TOOK A MONTH TO GET AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE WARNING DIAGNOSED. FINALLY THEY DID THE ANALYSIS AND TOLD ME THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR HAD FAILED, AND CLAIMED IT WAS BECAUSE THE SEAT GOT WET (IT DIDN'T). AFTER I COMPLAINED TO MANAGEMENT THEY COMP'D THE REPAIR AND REPLACED THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT CUSHION AT THE END OF JUNE. THE PROBLEM HASN'T RECURRED.

HASSETT SUBARU (3520 SUNRISE HWY, WANTAGH, NY 11793, (516) 785-7800) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY AIR BAG RECALL; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED FOUR TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS FOR THE AIR BAGS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000. *BF
WHILE GETTING READY TO SLOW FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT RED SIGNAL THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON INCLUDING THE NEED TO TOW THE VEHICLE. I GOT THE VEHICLE TO A PARKING LOT ABOUT 1 MILE AWAY WITH THE WARNING LIGHT STILL ON AND THE VEHICLE SLOWED TO ABOUT 2 MILES PER HOUR UNTIL I STOPPED. I SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT, THE ABS LIGHTS DID NOT COME BACK ON. THE BRAKES PERFORMED NORMALLY. I DROVE HOME. OVERNIGHT THE BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON AND I NOW HAVE A DEAD BATTERY. THE BRAKE LIGHT IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED ON A RECALL LAST WEEK ABOUT 150 MILES AGO.
WE'VE HAD THE CAR FROM NEW LEASE THE BATTERY HAS DIED AT LEAST 4 TIMES. AFTER THE 2ND TIME, WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO BE CHECKED. THEY SAID BATTERY AND CHARGER WERE FINE. IT IS NOT FINE IF THE BATTERY CAN'T HOLD ENOUGH POWER TO START CAR AFTER LEAVING KEY ON ACC FOR 15 MINUTES WITH NO LIGHTS, NO RADIO, NOTHING KNOWINGLY DRAWING POWER. EVEN WHEN THE BATTERY STARTS THE CAR NORMALLY, CRANKING IS SLOW, ALMOST UNABLE TO CRANK. I HAVE HAD TO RESCUE MY WIFE, HER SON-IN-LAW HAS HAD TO, BUT WHAT IF WE AREN'T AVAILABLE. A CAR SHOULD BE GENERALLY ABLE TO START UNLESS YOU'VE LEFT THE LIGHTS ON FOR HOURS. THE LAST SITUATION, DRIVEN TO MCDONALD'S, PARKED AND ENGINE OFF, KEY WAS TURNED TO ACC TO ROLL DOWN WINDOW; NOTHING ELSE. AFTER 15-20 MINUTES, CAR WOULD NOT START, DEAD BATTERY. I HAD TO COME AND JUMP IT.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THERE HIGHWAY IN UTAH WITH NO VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME. I HEARD A LOUD CRACKING NOISE COME FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE UPPER CORNER OF THE WINDSHIELD. I STOPPED AND INSPECTED THE WINDSHIELD AND DID NOT SEE AND CHIPS OR CRACKS. I KEPT DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY FOR APPROXIMATELY 4 HOURS AND WHEN I STOPPED I NOTICED A 4 INCH CRACK IN THE UPPER AREA OF THE PASSENGER SIDE WHERE THE ORIGINAL CRACKING NOISE CAME FROM. THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT TEMPERATURE FLUCTUATIONS THIS PAST WEEK WHILE IN UTAH (30F AT NIGHT AND 60-65F DURING THE DAY). THE HIGHWAY WAS SMOOTH (NOT BUMPY OR ROUGH). IT WAS A CLEAR AND SUNNY DAY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SCHOMP SUBARU (580 S HAVANA ST, AURORA, CO 80012, (720) 343-2210), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,500.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO #1 COCHRAN SUBARU BUTLER COUNTY (4520 WILLIAM PENN HWY, MONROEVILLE, PA 15146, (412) 245-4580), BUT COULD NOT BE SERVICED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
KEEP GETTING MESSAGE "SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE CHECKED" WHILE DRIVING. DEALER WANTS TO REPLACE THE SET SENSOR AT MY COST. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 41,000 MILES. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND SUBARU IS NOT FIXING THE ISSUE LEAVING DRIVER IN DANGER. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL!
THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG OCCUPANCY SENSOR IS MALFUNCTIONING AND SWITCHING OFF THE AIRBAG WHEN SOMEONE SITS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT.
2 SEPARATE INCIDENTS OF COMPLETE ENGINE POWER LOSS WHILE ON HIGHWAY AT CRUISING SPEEDS. FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS GOING ABOUT 70MPH ON A HIGHWAY. WE HEARD A LOUD BANG THEN ENGINE DIED AND WE LOST ALL POWER TO THE CAR. THERE WAS A LOT OF SMOKE BUT WE WERE ABLE TO COAST IT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. WHEN WE OPENED HOOD THERE WAS OIL EVERYWHERE AND A GIANT CRACK AND HOLE IN THE ENGINE. WE HAD TO TOW IT 170 MILES HOME WHERE IT WAS IN THE SHOP 5 WEEKS GETTING FIXED. AFTER HAVING THE CAR ONLY 3 WEEKS THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED WHERE THE CAR LOST TORQUE WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. IT WENT UP TO 60 NORMALLY BUT THEN FALTERED AND DROPPED DOWN TO 20MPH. WE WENT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED OFF THE CAR AND STARTED IT BACK UP AND IT WAS FINE DRIVING NORMALLY THEN DID THE SAME THING AGAIN. WE DROVE IT TO THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP AND RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE DEALER WE HEARD A LOUD BANG, TONS OF SMOKE, AND AS SOON AS WE PULLED UP TO SUBARU WE OPENED THE HOOD AND SURE ENOUGH THERE WAS OIL EVERYWHERE AND A CRACK IN THE ENGINE IN WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME AREA. SRS MESSAGE AND WARNING LIGHT COMING ON. MESSAGE SRS SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE CHECKED. MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY LOCAL SUBARU DEALER I EXPLAINED THE ISSUES SHOWED THEM THREE PICTURES OF THE WARNING AND INDICATORS WHEN THE ISSUE OCCURS. WAS TOLD THAT THEIR WAS NOTHING WRONG. NO ACTIVE CODES FOUND. UNABLE TO HAVE SOMEONE IN THE PASSENGERS SEAT IN CASE THE AIR BAG DOES NOT DEPLOY. CONTACTED SUBARU HAVE NOT RESPONDED. THE WARING AND INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON WHEN SOMEONE IS SETTING IN THE PASSENGERS SEAT, WITH NO ONE IN THE SEAT AND WITH NO ONE IN THE CAR IN PARK WITH ENGINE IDLING. THE VEHICLE COULD BE MOVING OR PARKED IDLING AND THE WARNING AND INDICATOR LIGHT WILL COME ON.
I HAVE HAD VERY SIMILAR ISSUES TO THE GENTLEMAN WHOSE NHTSA # IS 11161972. ON THREE OCCASIONS WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MILES AN HOUR AND USUALLY GOING UP AND INCLINE, MY ENGINE WOULD SPUTTER AND THE CAR WOULD DIE. ALL THREE TIMES MY CAR SCREEN SHOWED THAT I HAD BETWEEN 60 AND 80 MILES LEFT IN MY TANK AND MY FUEL GAUGE WHICH SHOW TWO CLICKS TO THE RIGHT OF EMPTY. THE FIRST TIME I THOUGHT IT COULD BE DUE TO THE FACT THAT I NEEDED GAS IN MY CAR . AT THAT POINT I CONTACTED AAA AND THEY BROUGHT ME 2 GALLONS OF GAS TO GET ME TO THE NEXT EXIT TO SO THAT I CAN FILL MY TANK. THE SECOND TIME I HAD MOVED OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE AS MY CAR WAS DYING. I HAD WAITED ABOUT 10 MINUTES WHILE I WAS WAITING ON AAA AGAIN TO SHOW UP WHEN I DECIDED TO START MY CAR AND THE ENGINE STARTED. I WAS LITERALLY 2/10 OF A MILE FROM THE GAS STATION SO I HEADED IN THAT DIRECTION TO FILL MY TANK. THE THIRD TIME AS I WAS INCLINING ON A HILL IN THE FAST LANE, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED AS I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 70 MILES AN HOUR. FORTUNATELY I THOUGHT FAST AND HIT THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS AS I HAD A SEMI RIGHT BEHIND MY CAR. THIS TIME I MOVED OVER INTO THE LEFT SIDE EMERGENCY LANE AND WAITED ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND MY CAR STARTED AGAIN. THIS SEEMS TO ALWAYS HAPPEN WHEN THE CAR IS SHOWING BETWEEN 60 AND 90 MILES OF GAS LEFT IN MY TANK AND ALWAYS WITH TWO CLICKS ON THE FULL GAGE. I AM NOT SURE AS TO WHY THIS IS HAPPENING AND HAVE TAKEN IT TO MY SUBARU DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE UNAWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS YET WE'RE UNABLE TO RE-CREATE THE PROBLEM WHEN THEY TRIED TO DRIVE IT. AS SOMEONE WHO PUTS A LOT OF ROAD MILES ON THEIR CAR FOR WORK, THIS IS A LITTLE BIT SCARY AS MY TRAVELS ARE ON THE HIGHWAY AND NOT ALWAYS IN LARGE CITIES. ON SEMI-SLICK PATCHES OF ROAD, THE 2016 FORESTER DRIVETRAIN WREAKS HAVOC ON THE CONTROL SYSTEMS AND STEERING CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO VIOLENTLY BREAK RIGHT OR LEFT REQUIRING HARD STEERING TO STEER FORWARD. PASSENGERS SUFFER MOTION SICKNESS; IT IS THAT BAD. WHILE OTHER TRAFFIC (E.G., SEMI-TRUCKS, GRAVEL HAULERS, 20+ FOOT TRAILED VEHICLES) CAN PASS THE FORESTER WITH NO PROBLEM AT MUCH HIGHER SPEEDS, THE 2016 FORESTER CANNOT BE DRIVEN OVER 40MPH OR SEVER LOSS OF CONTROL (E.G., EXPRESSWAY); MUCH LIKE LUG NUTS LOOSE ON ONE OR MORE WHEELS. THE 2016 FORESTER IS A DEATH TRAP EVEN AT 40MPH BECAUSE UNKNOWN WHEN IT WILL JUST BREAK TO RIGHT OR LEFT. PUT NEW TIRES ON; SAME PROBLEM (FACTORY SPEC ALIGNMENT OKAY). TOOK TO DEALER, AND REAR WHEELS WERE ADJUSTED WITH IRREGULAR ALIGNMENT TO TRY TO KEEP VEHICLE FROM TRACKING IN A FASHION TO TRY TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM. A LITTLE BETTER WITH IRREGULAR ALIGNMENT BUT NOW 5% TO 10% LOSS MPG AND GREATER TIRE WEAR. I STILL DO NOT TRUST THE VEHICLE. JUST A TERRIBLE RIDE. EVEN ON DRY ROADS, I THOUGHT IT WAS THE WIND; BUT NO WIND; JUST DANGEROUS AND UNACCEPTABLE ENGINEERING BETWEEN STEERING-DRIVETRAIN-WHEELS-VEHICLE SYSTEMS. I HAVE PAID OVER $700 ON THIS PROBLEM PLUS LOSS OF MPG. LOOKING TO TRADE IN BUT I AM NOT COMFORTABLE PASSING ALONG A DEATH TRAP TO SOMEONE ELSE; SO I AM STUCK WITH A $33,000 PIECE OF JUNK.

BOTH IN INCIDENTS OCCURRED WITH LOW FUEL ABOUT 1/8TH TANK (2-3 GALLONS) VERIFIED BASED ON AMOUNT REFILLED TO FULL. FUEL GAUGE WAS READING 2 BARS (1/8) AND LOW FUEL LIGHT ON BUT SHOWING 70 MILES OF FUEL REMAINING. BOTH INCIDENTS OCCURRED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS GOING UP VERY SLIGHT INCLINE. SUDDEN NON-RESPONSE OF ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND SUBSEQUENT DECELERATION AS CAR WAS DRIVEN TO SHOULDER. ENGINE SHIFT DOWN COMPLETELY ON ITS OWN WHILE ON SIDE OF ROAD. IN FIRST INCIDENT ON INTERSTATE 78W IN PA, THE CAR COULD NOT BE IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED UNTIL AFTER APPROXIMATELY 40 MINUTES AFTER TOW TRUCK ARRIVED. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO LOCAL SUBARU DEALER AND INSPECTED BUT NO ROOT CAUSE FOUND OR REPORTED. THE CAR WAS OPERATED FOR ANOTHER ~20,000 MILES UNTIL SECOND EVENT ON NJ GARDEN STATE PARKWAY SOUTH WHERE ENGINE LOST ALL POWER AND THE CAR WAS COASTED TO THE SHOULDER. AFTER ABOUT 5-10 MINUTES THE CAR WAS RESTARTED AND DRIVEN TO NEAREST GAS STATION AND FILLED UP, REQUIRING 14.1 GALLONS. THIS EVENT OCCURRED ON NOV 28TH, 2018. AS OF THIS WRITING, THIS SECOND EVENT HAS NOT YET BEEN COMMUNICATED TO SUBARU YET WAS POSTED BY ME ON AN ONLINE FORUM IN RESPONSE TO OTHER USERS REPORTING SIMILAR ENGINE ISSUES AT HIGHWAY SPEED WITH SIMILAR LOW FUEL CONDITIONS IN ORDER TO EFFECTIVELY TROUBLESHOOT THE ISSUE. THE OCCUPANT DETECTION SENSOR FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. IT WILL OCCASIONALLY SET A WARNING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, SAYING THAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE CHECKED OUT, BUT THEN YOU CAN TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON AND THE WARNING DISAPPEARS. THE 'CURE' IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT ASSEMBLY! THE FOLLOWING TEXT FROM ANOTHER COMPLAINT PERFECTLY DESCRIBES MY SITUATION: "SUBARU IS KNOWINGLY BUILDING ITS CARS WITH FAULTY PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SENSORS WHICH WILL RANDOMLY TURN OFF THE AIR BAG WHILE THE PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED UNDER NORMAL LIFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. IT IS IN THE 2016 AND 2017 OWNERS MANUAL THAT IF THERE IS A CELL PHONE OR ELECTRICAL DEVICE IN THE FRONT AREA OF THE CAR THEN THE AIR BAG SENSORS COULD MALFUNCTION. IT ALSO STATES THAT IF YOUR PASSENGER IS WEARING A JACKET OR SWEATER THIS COULD CAUSE THE SENSORS TO TURN THE LIFE SAVING AIR BAG OFF."
MY VEHICLE ALARM SYSTEM CAME ON UNEXPECTEDLY TOWARD THE END OF A DAY-LONG DRIVE, WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT, HILL ASSIST, EYESIGHT, AND OTHER DASH WARNING LIGHTS ALL ILLUMINATED. THE PROBLEM DISABLED THE EYESIGHT SYSTEM, WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN CLEAR WEATHER WHEN A DRIVER EXPECTS IT TO WORK. THE REMAINDER OF THE DRIVE WAS UNNERVING, LATE ON A THURSDAY NIGHT, ON A HIGHWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, WHEN NOTHING WAS OPEN. TURNS OUT THIS PROBLEM IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. IT DESERVES A RECALL!

IT IS IN THE 2016 AND 2017 OWNERS MANUAL THAT IF THERE IS A CELL PHONE OR ELECTRICAL DEVICE IN THE FRONT AREA OF THE CAR THEN THE AIR BAG SENSORS COULD MALFUNCTION. IT ALSO STATES THAT IF YOUR PASSENGER IS WEARING A JACKET OR SWEATER THIS COULD CAUSE THE SENSORS TO TURN THE LIFE SAVING AIR BAG OFF.
