VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHEN I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. IT WENT OVER AN EMBANKMENT AND CRASHED NOSE FIRST INTO THE PARKING LOT BELOW.
WHEN MAKING A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN THE VEHICLE WILL BOG DOWN AND IT WILL NOT MOVE. THE SITUATION LAST ABOUT 5 SECONDS AND DURING THIS TIME I AM UNABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES PER DAY TO NONE PER DAY. I HAVE BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF MY SERVICE REP AND HIS ANSWER WAS THAT THIS IS NORMAL FOR THE TRANSMISSION IN THIS VEHICLE. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR ABOUT THE LAST 12 MONTHS. THE LAST INSTANCE WAS THE DATE SELECTED ON THE CALENDAR.
THERE WERE 5 MAJOR ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE THAT I WANT INVESTIGATED. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT NB ON US-101 IN THE #1 LANE OF TRAFFIC, GOING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH, WHEN FOR NO EXPLAINABLE REASON, THE REAR TIRES OF MY 2016 SUBARU FORESTER BEGAN TO SKID ME ACROSS THE #2 LANE OF TRAFFIC. I WILL NOTE THAT IT HAD JUST STOPPED SPRINKLING AND THE ROAD WAS DAMP. ISSUE 1: DURING MY SKID, THE SKID CONTROL FEATURE NEVER ENGAGED (WHICH IS A MARKETED FEATURE AND A REASON I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE). I HAD TO FIGHT THE SKID ON MY OWN. ISSUE 2: THE ROLL OVER FEATURE NEVER ENGAGED (WHICH IS A MARKETED FEATURE AND ANOTHER REASON I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE). AFTER FIGHTING TO PREVENT MY VEHICLE FROM ROLLING OVER AND SKIDDING OUT OF CONTROL, I ULTIMATELY CRASH ON THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY, HITTING A LIGHT POST. ISSUE 3: UPON HITTING THE LIGHT POST, MY SEAT BELT FLEW OFF. (BOTH MY HANDS WERE ON THE WHEEL AT THE TIME AND THERE WERE NO LOOSE OBJECTS IN THE AREA. UNLESS THIS IS SOME "FEATURE" IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR THE SEAT BELT TO DISENGAGE AUTOMATICALLY.) ISSUE 4: THE CRASH NOTIFICATION FEATURE, THAT I PAID EXTRA FOR, DID NOT DO IT'S JOB. EVEN WITH MY CELL PHONE LINKED TO THE VEHICLE, THE CRASH NOTIFICATION NEVER CALLED 9-1-1 ON MY BEHALF. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED 9-1-1 TO NOTIFY CHP OF MY ACCIDENT BECAUSE I WAS FEARFUL OF ANOTHER VEHICLE ALSO SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL AND HITTING ME. CHP TOOK A REPORT. ** ISSUE 5 **: THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. MY CAR WAS DEEMED TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND AUTO BODY SHOP. THE AUTO BODY SHOP STATED VEHICLE HIT THE POLE SO HARD ALL BOLTS WERE BENT INTO A 45 DEGREE ANGLE. HOW DOES A CRASH THAT SEVERE NOT ENGAGE THE AIR BAGS? I HAD A SCAR ON MY COLLAR BONE FOR A MONTH AFTER THE CRASH. NONE OF THE MARKETED OR REQUIRED SAFETY FEATURES WORKED TO PREVENT THE CRASH NOR ASSIST AFTER THE CRASH.
DRIVER WAS PARKING FRONT FIRST INTO A PARKING SPOT, TRAVELING STRAIGHT FORWARD AT LESS THAN 5 MPH. WHEN THE 2016 SUBARU FORESTER REACHED THE PROPER PARKING LOCATION, THE DRIVER, WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE, ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE GEAR SHIFTER FROM D TO P. SUDDENLY THE ENGINE REV'D AND THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD, OVER THE PARKING CONCRETE BLOCK, OVER A SMALL BUSH AND INTO THE WINDOW WALL OF THE ADJACENT CONDO. DAMAGE WAS SUSTAINED TO THE WALL, AND RIGHT HAND SIDE FRONT OF VEHICLE. DRIVER STATED THAT HE COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE BECAUSE HIS FOOT WAS ALREADY ON THE BRAKE. NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. PERIODICALLY, WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO OPERATE. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO JIGGLE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES IN ORDER TO GET THEM TO OPERATE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES WITHIN TWO YEARS AND WERE INADEQUATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
WHILE TRAVELING AT SPEEDS ABOVE 25 MPH IN MILD TO MODERATE WINTER CONDITIONS, THE REAR END IS FISHTAILING AND PUSHING THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE IN AN UNSAFE MANNER. MY FAMILY AND I WERE NEARLY THROWN INTO A DITCH SEVERAL TIMES IN A 2 MILE EXCURSION ON THE INTERSTATE ON CHRISTMAS DAY. EVEN AT VERY LOW SPEEDS, THE STEERING IS UNRESPONSIVE TO THE FORCE THAT FEELS LIKE IT IS COMING FROM THE REAR END. THE MAXIMUM SPEED AT WHICH WE COULD KEEP THE VEHICLE SOMEWHAT UNDER CONTROL WAS AROUND 25-30 MPH WHICH CAUSED US TO BE ANOTHER TYPE HAZARD ON THE INTERSTATE. DURING CITY DRIVING, THIS VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN SINGLE LANE PRESENCE IN MILD TO MODERATE WINTER CONDITIONS. TIRE PRESSURE WAS EQUAL ON ALL 4 WHEELS. VEHICLE WAS WITHIN ALIGNMENT SPECS. THE DEALER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THERE IS A PROBLEM (4 OTHER CARS IN THE SAME DEALERSHIP WITH THE SAME ISSUE) AND STATES THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO MAKE A DIAGNOSIS. THEY HAVE HAD MY CAR IN THEIR POSSESSION FOR 3 WEEKS AS IT IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE. THE SUBARU CORPORATE REPRESENTATIVE HAS SUGGESTED THAT WE "TRY" SEVERAL PROPOSED SOLUTIONS (TO A PROBLEM WHICH THEY CANNOT IDENTIFY) AND CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE IF THE PROBLEM IS FIXED. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE. IT IS EXTREMELY IRRESPONSIBLE FOR SUBARU TO INSIST THAT MY FAMILY AND I BE USED AS AN EXPERIMENT IN AN ATTEMPT TO FIGURE OUT WHY THEIR PRODUCT PUT ME AND MY FAMILY IN GRAVE DANGER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY SURGED FORWARD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE ACCELERATED VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. 2016 SUBARU FORESTER WAS RATED BY INSURANCE INST FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY AS POOR FOR HEADLIGHTS. HAVING DRIVEN ON DARK COUNTRY ROADS I CAN AGREE. HEADLIGHTS ON PASSENGER SIDE LIGHT UP RIGHT SIDE OF ROAD, DRIVER'S SIDE HAS FOCAL POINT OF LESS THAN 100FT. GOING DOWNHILL, A DARK LINE BLOCKS ALL LIGHT SO THAT SEEING ROAD AHEAD IS VERY DIFFICULT. HIGH BEAMS ARE A BIT BETTER, MORE OF SURROUNDING COUNTRY SIDE LIT UP; DOWN-RANGE LIGHTING MIGHT HAVE FOCAL POINT OF 200/250 FEET, WELL BELOW IIHS STANDARDS. DEALER SAYS LIGHTS ARE PROPERLY AIMED. SUBARU, NEW JERSEY, CONTACTED. THEY CLAIM NO KNOWLEDGE OF IIHS REVIEW AND MY COMPLAINT WAS TREATED AS IT KINDA SUCKS TO BE YOU. *TR
2016 SUBARU FORESTER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE EYESIGHT SYSTEM PROBLEMS, FRONTAL COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM AND ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED OCCASIONALLY, THE SYSTEM WOULD SHUT DOWN AND THE DASHBOARD DISPLAYED THE APPROPRIATE WARNING LIGHTS. THE SYSTEM WOULD RE-START ON ITS OWN ANYWHERE FROM IMMEDIATELY TO FIVE MINUTES AFTER FAILURE. WHILE THE SYSTEM WAS INOPERATIVE, THE FRONTAL COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM AND THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT WORK. IF HE ENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL, IT WOULD DISENGAGE WITHOUT WARNING AND THE VEHICLE WOULD RESPOND BY SLOWING DOWN. *JB
I'VE HAD THE SAME ISSUE HAPPEN ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS (OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER 2016) - WHILE DRIVING THE CAR I BOUGHT BRAND NEW, AND GOING APPX. 75 MPH DOWN THE INTERSTATE, DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 2 HOURS STRAIGHT ON FLAT INTERSTATE, THE RPM'S ALL OF A SUDDEN SHOOT UP AND IT FEELS LIKE MY CAR FALLS OUT OF GEAR. THE CAR ESSENTIALLY SHUTS DOWN AND FAILS TO ACCELERATE AND SLOWS DOWN QUICKLY, WHILE TOTALLY UNRESPONSIVE. WE HAVE TO QUICKLY PULL OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID BEING HIT. SEVERAL LIGHTS SHOW ON THE DASH (HAVE PHOTO) AND THE VEHICLE DOES NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATION. WE HAD TO SHUT THE CAR OFF COMPLETELY AND TURN IT BACK ON - NO RESPONSE TO ACCELERATION OR ANYTHING. IT DID NOT RESPOND UNTIL THE 2ND TIME TURNING IT OFF AND BACK ON. UPON BRINGING TO DEALERSHIP, THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO PULL ANY CODES OR DUPLICATE THE ERROR (EITHER TIME). THEY ALSO HAD A SUBARU FIELD ENGINEER LOOK AT IT AND FOUND NOTHING. I AM CONTINUOUSLY SENT AWAY WITHOUT A SOLUTION OTHER THAN TO "CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE" IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN, WHICH PUTS MYSELF AND OTHERS IN SERIOUS DANGER. THE MOST RECENT TIME THEY PUT 300 MILES ON IT AND FOUND THAT IT "FELL OUT OF CRUISE CONTROL", BUT AREN'T OFFERING TO FIX IT AND DIDN'T ACTUALLY DUPLICATE THE SAME ERROR AS I HAD. I'M AFRAID I'M GOING TO GET INTO A SERIOUS CAR ACCIDENT AND HURT MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE THE NEXT TIME THIS HAPPENS. IT FEELS LIKE SUBARU (OR DEALER) ISN'T OWNING UP TO THIS PROBLEM OR POSSIBLY TRYING TO COVER IT UP TO KEEP THEIR GOOD SAFETY RATINGS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME THAT I'M "THE ONLY PERSON IN THE WHOLE UNITED STATES REPORTING THIS ISSUE", WHICH I FIND VERY DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON A LEVEL SURFACE. I STARTED THE CAR, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. RELEASE THE PARKING BRAKE, PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE, RELEASE THE BRAKE. THE CAR STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS RATHER QUICKLY. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE, RELEASED IT AGAIN AND THE CAR STARTED ROLLING FORWARDS. THE CAR WAS DEFINITELY IN DRIVE, IT SHOULD NOT HAVE GONE BACKWARDS.
AT LOW SPEED (UNDER 15 MPH) A HESITATION OCCURS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOOSE ACCELERATION POWER FOR AS LONG AS 3 OR 4 SECONDS. IT IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM OCCURRING ONLY 8 TIMES IN THREE MONTHS. PROBLEM ALMOST CAUSED A COLLISION WHILE TURNING LEFT BEFORE ONCOMING TRAFFIC. LATER RECURRENCES PRODUCED THE SAME PROBLEM DURING RIGHT TURNS ALSO. WE RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND PURCHASED A 2017 OF THE SAME MODEL HOPING THIS PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED.
WE NOTICED A TINY CHIP IN THE WINDSHIELD ONE DAY. WE DID NOT SEE OR HEAR IT HAPPEN AND IT WAS TOO SMALL TO REPAIR (NO BUBBLE TO FILL), SO WE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO LEAVE IT ALONE AND HOPE IT DIDN'T SPREAD. A FEW WEEKS LATER THE WEATHER CHANGED AND IT BECAME A 2FT LONG CRACK ACROSS THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE DEALER TOLD ME TODAY THAT THE MANUFACTURER WOULD COVER IT ONLY IF THE CRACK ORIGINATED FROM THE BOTTOM, NOT FROM A ROCK IN THE MIDDLE. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM OF WEAK GLASS THAT EASILY CHIPS AND THEN CRACKS IS WIDESPREAD WITH THIS VEHICLE AND IT IS CLEARLY RELATED TO THE GLASS HEATER, WHICH HEATS THE BOTTOM BUT NOT THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE COMBINATION OF WEAK GLASS UNDER TENSION AND DIFFERENTIAL HEATING IS A DESIGN FLAW FOR WHICH THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE.
WHEN SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, THERE IS A 3 TO 4 SECOND LAG TIME IN THE TRANSMISSION BETWEEN SHIFTING AND GETTING POWER TO THE WHEELS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN YOU BACK OUT OF YOUR DRIVEWAY, ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIVE ON A BUSY STREET (AS WE DO). I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TODAY AND THEY SAID THIS IS NORMAL FOR THE TYPE OF TRANSMISSION (CVT) AND THEY WOULDN'T EVEN LOOK AT IT. THIS IS IRRESPONSIBLE AND NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED.
SOFT BRAKES. HAD TO APPLY BRAKE AHEAD OF TIME TO STOP IN THE SIGNAL. SLOW TRAFFIC SAME ISSUE EVERY TIME YOU APPLY BRAKE YOU WILL BE SCARED IF IT WILL STOP. IT WILL NOT SLOWDOWN THE CAR IN THE TURNS. STREET CITIES AND SLOW TRAFFICS AND EXIT FROM HIGHWAY
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE, IT ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE FAILURE RECURRED, BUT ONLY WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THIS TYPE OF FAILURE HAD NEVER BEFORE OCCURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1,800.
"TAKATA RECALL" VEHICLE ACCELLERATED, BRAKES DID NOT STOP VEHICLE, ACCIDENT TOOK PLACE INJURING MY WIFE, PHYSICALLY, EMOTIONALLY & PSYCHOLOGICALLY. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. WIFE WAS TRYING TO PARK, WHEN VEHICLE SPED UP AND HER BRAKING HAD NO EFFECT AND SHE CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE.
The oem battery in this vehicle has failed Multiple times (dozens of times), upon sitting for a few days. Nothing in the vehicle was On, it was just sitting. A couple of times it was towed to the dealership in Bozemanwhere I bought it (Gallatin Motors) for diagnosis and repairs (bad/dead battery). The battery was replaced Once per Subaru's policy. Then I was on my own for repeated, totally unexplained DEAD battery upon trying to start the car after a couple/ few days/ nothing left on. I finally bought my own new recommended Interstate Battery after repeated dead out non starts. I bought a Duracell battery maintainer/ conditioner to install in my garage, which I use when the vehicle sits for more than 2 or 3 days to be sure the darn battery will start the car. It's obvious to me there's a parasitic battery drain in this smart car, but no one from any dealership will acknowledge/ has any advice about this! This is discussed in multiple online forums. I love the car and it's smarts, but not turning Dead Off after I'm finished driving it - and draining the battery making it impossible to start again without a jump - is totally not acceptable for a "vehicle."
MY CAR WAS PARKED AND THE WINDOW SUDDENLY SHATTERED FOR NO REASON. IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. IT WAS ONLY 76 DEGREES AND SUDDENLY I HEARD A LOUD NOISE. NOW THERE IS GLASS ALL INSIDE MY DOOR. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS. I THINK IT MUST HAVE BEEN A DEFECTED WINDOW. I HAVE HAD MY CAR PARKED AT WORK ON HOTTER DAYS SUCH AS 97 DEGREES WITH NO PROBLEM. THIS IS A NEW CAR AND MY FIRST SUMMER OWNING IT AND I HAVE TO HAVE THIS OCCUR. I HAVE PICTURES BUT HAD TAKEN THEM WITH MY PHONE CAMERA. IF NEEDED I CAN SEND THEM TO A WEBSITE FROM MY PHONE.
APPARENT DEFECTIVE VALVES ON YOKOHAMA GEOLANDER G91-F STOCK TIRES THAT CAME WITH THE NEW VEHICLE. CAR WITH ONLY 7,626 MILES, MINIMAL TREAD WEAR, TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY @ 65MPH LOW TIRE PRESSURE INDICATOR COMES ON, AND ~ 5 SEC LATER THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE JUST COMPLETELY SHREDDING. OUTSIDE WALL COMPLETELY SEPARATING AND TIRE VALVE NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. DRIVEN MINI SPARE TO LOCAL FIRESTONE TIRE CENTER. TOLD TO KEEP THE TIRE AS EVIDENCE, NO PUNCTURE NOTED. NOT ONE MONTH LATER, LOW PRESSURE LIGHT AGAIN WHILE DRIVING @ 65MPH ON ANOTHER HIGHWAY, THIS TIME THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE NOW WITH A LEAK. CHECKED AND STOPPED MULTIPLE TIMES TO ENSURE ONLY A SLOW LEAK. ABLE TO BE SEEN AT A NEARBY COSTCO TIRE CENTER AND DIAGNOSED WITH A SLOW LEAK COMING FROM THE TIRE VALVE. 2 DIFFERENT STOCK YOKOHAMA TIRES BOTH WITH VERY LOW MILES, ONE WITH DEVASTATING BLOW OUT APPARENTLY OCCURRING ABOUT THE TIRE VALVE, THE SECOND TIRE WITH A SLOW DEFECTIVE VALVE LEAK. NO PUNCTURES NOTED WHEN EXAMINED AT EITHER TIRE CENTER.
THREE TIMES OVER THE PAST 2 WEEKS, MY VEHICLE HAS STALLED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ALL THREE TIMES THE INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN I WAS TRAVELING WITH 1/4 OR LESS OF GAS (BUT THESE INCIDENTS DID NOT OCCUR DUE TO HAVING RUN OUT OF GAS). ALL THREE TIMES I WAS ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE OR DRIVE UPHILL. THE VEHICLE STALLED ALL TIMES AT AROUND 65-75 MPH OF SPEED, CAUSING ME GREAT CONCERN WHEN I HAD TO QUICKLY PULL OVER ON HEAVILY TRAVELED HIGHWAYS SUCH AS CT ROUTE 84 AND VT ROUTE 91. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO BERTERA SUBARU IN HARTFORD, CT, WHERE I HAD PURCHASED IT, AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIX MY ISSUE UNTIL IT HAPPENED MORE CONSISTENTLY. I MENTIONED RECALL WTA-62 AND WAS TOLD IT DOES NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE. RECALL WQZ-61 WAS PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE.
NON-TURBO MODEL STALLS IN TRAFFIC WITHOUT WARNING. FIRST AIR CONDITIONER SHUTS OFF, ALONG WITH ELECTRICAL, THEN ENGINE STALLS. NOTHING UNUSUAL PRIOR TO SHUTTING OFF. VEHICLE BECOMES NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL WITH LIMITED BRAKING AND STEERING. CAR WILL NOT IMMEDIATELY RE-START. THIS HAS OCCURRED SIX TIMES SINCE NEW; DEALER HAS NOT FIXED PROBLEM, BUT HAS SEEN VIDEO OF THE CAR STALLING IN TRAFFIC THAT MY WIFE TOOK WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE TAILGATE ON MY 2016 FORESTER IS SO LOW WHEN OPENED THAT I HIT MY HEAD ON IT EVERY TIME I REACH INTO THE CAR. I AM 6 FEET TALL. OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME EXPERIENCE WITH MY TAILGATE. I HAD AN EARLIER MODEL FORESTER WHERE THIS WAS NOT AN ISSUE. THE SUBARU DEALERS I COMPLAINED TO SAID THAT THE HINGES WERE DESIGNED SO THAT A LONGER SHOCK ABSORBER OR OTHER AFTER-MARKET FIX WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE FIXED UNTIL THE MODEL DESIGN WAS CHANGED. THIS IS DANGEROUS!!
PASSENGER DETECTION SYSTEM TO TURN ON AIRBAG HAS BEEN INTERMITTENT SINCE SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING. WILL TURN OFF PASSENGER AIR BAG WITH AN ADULT PRESENT IN THE SEAT, OR NOT TURN IT ON INITIALLY. NOW IT IS ALMOST ALWAYS OFF AT SOME POINT IN A DRIVING EXPERIENCE. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO GET IT CHECKED OUT WERE MADE BUT REQUIRED TOO LONG AND NO LOANER WAS AVAILABLE. AFTER GETTING A SECOND CAR, IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED BE TESTED OCTOBER 2, 2018 AND PARTS WERE ORDERED. WHEN I TRIED TO FIND WHEN THE PART MAY COME IN AFTER ABOUT 2 WEEKS, NO INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE. THE SYSTEM ACKNOWLEDGES THE PRESENCE OF A PASSENGER BECAUSE IT GIVES A WARNING ON THE DISPLAY THAT IT NEEDS SERVICE BUT IT LEAVES AIRBAG OFF ANYWAY. I BELIEVE IT HAS BEEN TOO LONG WAITING FOR PARTS FOR A SAFETY SYSTEM PROBLEM. THIS HAS OBVIOUSLY BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE FOR SEVERAL MODEL YEARS ACCORDING TO COMPLAINTS TO NHTSA AND ON SUBARU OWNER'S FORUMS.
I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT AND HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AS I WAS SLOWING TO A STOP AND THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND JUMPED THE CURB AND MEDIAN HEADING TOWARDS A BUILDING. ALL THE WHILE MY FOOT WAS STILL ON THE BRAKE AND I TURNED THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID BUILDING AND THE CAR STOPPED. TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE.

AND IF YOU WERE TO PULL A TRAILER AND YOU ARE ON A SMALL HILL IT FEELS LIKE THE CAR IS IN NEUTRAL WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS. WE ONLY HAVE 3700 MILES ON THE CAR. I HAVE CONTACTED SUBARU CORP AND THEY TOLD ME TO GO TO THE DEALER, WHICH I DID. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE HAD A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT HE ALSO SAID IT WAS ONE OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VEHICLE. THIS TO ME IS VERY DANGEROUS. I WAS TOLD THERE IS NO FIX. THE DEALER ASKED HOW COME I HADN'T NOTICED THIS WHEN WE FIRST TRIED THE VEHICLE. MY SISTER AND I BOUGHT THIS CAR ON MAR. 25, 2016. ON APRIL 6, 2016 THE CAR STALLED ON HER TWICE. SHE WAS COMING OUT OF A STORE PARKING LOT, AND CROSSED THE INTERSECTION TURNING LEFT AND THE CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD IN THE INTERSECTION ON THE BROKEN YELLOW LINES. SHE HAD TO PUT HER CAR ON 'PARK' AND RESTART. THE SECOND INCIDENT HAPPENED THE SAME WAY, COMING OUT OF A PARKING LOT BUT DIDN'T REACH THE CENTER OF THE STREET, AND STALLED ON THE FAST LANE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. SHE DID THE SAME, PUT THE CAR IN 'PARK' AND RESTARTED. I THEN TOOK HER CAR TO THE DEALER ON THURSDAY NIGHT 4/7/16 AND LEFT THE CAR THERE WITH 382 MILES ON IT. THE SERVICE ADVISOR DID TELL ME THAT THEY DID HAVE ANOTHER INCIDENT SIMILAR....SOME PEOPLE WERE TEST DRIVING A FORRESTER AND AND IT HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THEY FOUND THAT A FUEL LINE WAS CRINKLED. SHE SAID, I HOPE THIS WASN'T THE CAR. THEY DID CHECK THE CAR WITH A LAPTOP, BUT DROVE IT FOR ONLY 1 OR 1-1/2 MILES AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. I BROUGHT THE CAR HOME AND HAVE 385 MILES ON IT NOW. MY CONCERN IS, THAT I DON'T WANT MY SISTER TO BE IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION, SHE JUST RECENT LOST HER HUSBAND OF 57 YEARS, AND I CONVINCED HER TO TRADE IN HER MINIVAN FOR A SMALLER SAFER VEHICLE.

WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS THE REAR-END SHIFTS TO THE LEFT WHEN DRIVING OVER A BUMP (DRY OR WET PAVEMENT). IT ALSO SHIFTS TO THE LEFT WHEN DRIVING ON ICE. I KNOW CARS PERFORM POORLY ON ICE, BUT I'VE HAD MANY DRIVING CAREERS AND THIS PROBLEM IS UNIQUE AND NOT NORMAL FOR ANY CAR. ALSO IT HYDROPLANES EASILY. THE REAR TIRES (ESPECIALLY THE RIGHT REAR TIRE) WEAR UNNATURALLY. I HAVE TO REPLACE TIRES APPROXIMATELY EVERY 18000 MILES. THIS IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND I RARELY HIT THE BRAKES. I DON'T ACCELERATE AGGRESSIVELY AND NEVER SLAM ON THE BRAKES. I USUALLY GET 60000+ MILES FROM MY TIRES. THE FRONT TIRES BY COMPARISON LAST 5-10 TIMES LONGER THAN THE REAR TIRES BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF TREAD WEAR AS COMPARED TO THE REAR TIRES OVER THE SAME AMOUNT OF MILES AS I DO ROTATE THEM REGULARLY. THIS CAR MAKES ME FEEL UNSAFE ON ICE AT ANY SPEED AND IS A LITTLE BIT HAIR RAISING JUST ON WET PAVEMENT. WHY IT WOULD SHIFT TO THE LEFT ON THE SMALLEST OF BUMPS AND EVEN ON DRY PAVEMENT (WORSE ON WET PAVEMENT) IS BEYOND ME. RECENTLY THE CONTROL ARMS AND TIE RODS HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 102K MILES. AFTER THAT REPAIR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND AIR SENSORS HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS CAR SEEMS LIKE A LEMON TO ME. I BOUGHT THIS NEW CAR FIGURING I WOULDN'T HAVE ISSUES I'VE HAD WITH USED CARS. IN A CLOSED PARKING LOT, I WAS GETTING READY TO PARK IN A SPACE. WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, I CUT THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT AND THEN EASED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE TO MANEUVER INTO THE PARKING SPOT. I PUSHED THE BRAKE AGAIN IN PREPARATION TO STRAIGHTEN THE WHEELS AND FINISH PARKING, NO SPEED REGISTERING ON THE GAUGE. WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AND JUMPED. I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, AND SLAMMED IT BACK DOWN ON THE BRAKE ATTEMPTING TO HALT THE VEHICLE. INSTEAD, WITH MY FOOT STILL FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AGAIN, AND FASTER, RIGHT INTO A WALL. I HAD BEEN UNABLE TO STRAIGHTEN THE WHEELS, SO THE IMPACT WAS NOT HEAD-ON, BUT RATHER CONTINUING THE RIGHT-TURN'S ANGLE, AND IMPACT OCCURRED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, FRONT-END. 2 AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITH A SLIGHT DELAY, CAUSING SEVERE BRUISING TO MY LEGS WHICH AFFECT MY WALKING, AND MUSCLE TEARS CAUSING SEVERE NECK AND SPINE PAIN. THOUGH I WAS WEARING MY SEATBELT DURING THE COLLISION, IT RETRACTED WHEN I OPENED THE DOOR, AND WE WERE UNABLE TO DISLODGE IT WHEN WE HAD TO MOVE THE VEHICLE FOR TOWING. TO REITERATE, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE AT MINIMAL SPEED, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN, WITH MY FOOT FIRMLY PRESSING THE BRAKE.
VEHICLE BEGINS TO ACCELERATE FROM PARKING LOT INTO TRAFFIC, BUT THEN GAS PEDAL HITS A "DEAD SPOT". GAS PEDAL IS NON-RESPONSIVE. UNABLE TO ACCELERATE UNTIL CONTINUALLY DEPRESSING GAS PEDAL 3/4 WAY TO FLOOR BOARD. THEN IT SURGES AHEAD! PROBLEM IS REPEATABLE AND IN MY OPINION VERY DANGEROUS. 1. PULLING INTO TRAFFIC AND UNABLE TO ACCELERATE TO TRAFFIC SPEED. 2. SUDDEN, UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION. I CONTACTED THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY SAID IT'S NORMAL. HAVE CONTACTED ANOTHER DEALERSHIP AND THEY WILL REVISIT MY COMPLAINT.
THE BASE MODEL STEEL WHEEL HAS A TROUGH RUNNING AROUND THE INSIDE OF THE WHEEL, TWO INCHES WIDE AND ONE INCH DEEP. SNOW PACKS INTO THE WHEELS, MELTS, AND OVERNIGHT THE WATER THAT ACCUMULATES IN THE TROUGH AT THE BASE OF THE WHEEL FREEZES SOLIDLY. IT WILL NOT BREAK LOOSE. THIS ICE BLOCK IS THE EQUIVALENT OF A VERY LARGE WHEEL BALANCE WEIGHT. THE CAR SHAKES VIOLENTLY AT SPEEDS OVER 45 MPH. THIS REPRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT IMMEDIATE SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL AS A LONG TERM SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THE LIKELY DAMAGE TO THE ALIGNMENT AND FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN SIX WEEKS. THE DEALER'S RESPONSE WAS TO TAKE IT TO CAR WASH. I WROTE SUBARU OF AMERICA AND WAS TOLD THEY WILL PASS MY EXPERIENCE ON TO NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT.
CAR ACCELERATES QUICKLY AND LURCHES FORWARD WHEN SLIGHTLY TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. THIS HAPPENS AT ALL TIMES FROM START OF CAR AND DURING GENERAL DRIVING CONDITIONS.
AFTER ABOUT 2 INCHES OF WET SNOW MY WIFE WAS DRIVING UP A SLOPED STREET. SHE CAME TO AN AREA WHERE SHE COULD SEE 2 CARS WAITING AFTER A COLLISION. SHE STOPPED. ANOTHER CAR STOPPER BEHIND HER. A POLICE CAR PASSED THE CAR PARKED BEHIND MY WIFE. THE POLICE CAR BUMPED THE CAR PARKED BEHIND MY WIFE AND PARKED. MY WIFE TRIED TO TURN AROUND. AS SHE DID HER CAR LOST TRACTION AND SLID INTO THE PARKED POLICE CAR. THERE WAS NO VISUAL DAMAGE TO MY WIFE'S CAR. I DO NOT BELIEVE THERE WAS ANY DAMAGE TO THE POLICE CAR. A REPORT STILL HAD TO BE FILED EVIDENTLY BECAUSE IT WAS A POLICE CAR. LATER I CHECKED THE RATING ON THE TIRES. PER THE RATINGS GIVEN IN TIRE RACK THESE TIRES HAVE BEEN DETERMINED TO BE UNSUITABLE FOR USE ON ICE.
EYESIGHT AND CRUISE CONTROL INTERMITTENT SHUTDOWN AND RESTART. ON AN INCREASINGLY FREQUENT BASIS, WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL AND EYESIGHT ARE ENGAGED, BOTH WILL DISABLE AND CAN BE A FEW SECONDS TO MINUTES BEFORE THE EYESIGHT RE-ENABLES AND THE CRUISE CONTROL CAN MANUALLY BE RE-ENGAGED. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, VEHICLE GOES FROM AUTO-DRIVE TO MANUAL-DRIVE. ALSO, AN E1 ERROR APPEARED ON THE ODOMETER DISPLAY.
THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA. THE DRIVER STOPPED TO MAKE A U-TURN THEN SLOWLY STARTED TO TAKE HER FOOT OFF THE BRAKE WHILE MOVING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO THE RIGHT (OPPOSITE DIRECTION). THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED ONLY AFTER COLLIDING INTO A STREET POLE.

CAR HAS 11,000 MILES, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A HIGHWAY USING THE CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 65 MPH WITH THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL ON (FEET NOT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL OR BRAKE) THE CAR ENGINE RPM'S BEGAN INCREASING TILL IT REACHED THE REV LIMITER. AT THE SAME TIME THE ENGINE RPM BEGAN REVVING HIGH, THE CAR BEGAN TO COAST AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. BUT THE GEAR SHIFT REMAINED IN DRIVE. AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF THE ENGINE REVVING AS HIGH AS IT COULD, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AND I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR STOPPED. I HAD TO PUT MY HAZARDS ON AND STEER OFF TO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID GETTING HIT FROM BEHIND. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE. FIRST TIME 10/8/15 THE CAR WOULD NOT START AFTER I COASTED TO A STOP AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE SUBARU DEALER. THEY HOOKED THE CAR UP TO THEIR COMPUTER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND FOUND NO ERROR CODES. SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED TO ME ON 1/2/16 AFTER STOPPING ON THE SHOULDER I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND DRIVE HOME WITHOUT USING CRUISE CONTROL. THE CAR IS GOING BACK TO THE DEALER FOR ANOTHER TEST THIS FRIDAY 1/8/16. THIS WHOLE PROCESS PROBABLY TAKES ABOUT 30 SECOND OR SO. BUT ITS VERY DANGEROUS. ITS ALMOST AS IF THE TRANSMISSION IS SOME HOW NOT ENGAGED. SINCE THE CRUISE IS SET AT 65 MPH IT TRIES TO INCREASES ENGINE RPM TO MAINTAIN 65 MPH SPEED BUT THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT ENGAGED SO CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE. CRUISE SEES CAR SLOWING DOWN SO SPEEDS UP THE ENGINE TO COMPENSATE. CARS STILL DOESN'T SPEED UP. EVENTUALLY ENGINE RPM MAXES OUT FOR A FEW SECONDS AND TURNS ITSELF OFF. I FEEL LIKE THE PROBLEM LIES WITH THE TRANSMISSION MOST LIKELY OR POSSIBLY THE CRUISE CONTROL. I ALSO NOTICE WHEN PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE GOING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE IT TAKES ABOUT 5 SECONDS FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO ENGAGE. TO THE POINT THAT I ROLL BACK A FEW FEET.
