REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER CEASED FUNCTIONING. THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO BROKEN WIRE IN A WIRING HARNESS THAT PASSES THROUGH A RUBBER ACCORDION BOOT BETWEEN THE CAR BODY AND THE TAIL-GATE (NEAR THE RIGHT-HAND TAILGATE HINGE). THE LEFT HAND TAIL-GATE BOOT WAS REMOVED AND A PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED WIRE WAS ALSO FOUND ( THIS IS A PREVIOUSLY OWNED CAR). RESEARCH AT AN ONLINE FORUM FOR SUBARU OWNERS SHOWED THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS OF 2005 AND 2006 SUBARUS HAVE EXPERIENCED SIMILAR FAILURES DUE TO BROKEN WIRES IN THIS WIRING HARNESS. I SUSPECT THAT IT IS AN UNDER-REPORTED PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THAT SUBARU SHOULD BE ASKED TO ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE. *TR
TAPPED BRAKE PEDAL TO DISABLE CRUISE CONTROL. NO THROTTLE CONTROL WHEN RESUMING MANUAL SPEED CONTROL. COASTED TO A STOP THROUGH MULTIPLE LANES OF FREEWAY TRAFFIC. ENGINE KEPT RUNNING POSSIBLY AT RAISE IDLE SPEED WHEN STOPPED. NO LOSS OF POWER STEERING OR BRAKES.TURNED KEY OFF. RESTARTED AFTER MAYBE LESS THAN A MINUTE. THROTTLE CONTROL RESUMED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. DROVE TO MULTIPLE LOCATIONS TO GET CODES READ. AFTER 2 OR 3 RESTARTS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OUT. FOUND A SHOP TO READ CODES. CODE P2138 IN MEMORY. HAVE REMOVED THROTTLE PEDAL ASSEMBLY AND TESTED POSITION SENSOR RESISTANCE VALUES. SOME READINGS MAY APPEAR TO BE SLIGHTLY OUT OF RANGE INDICATED IN SERVICE MANUAL. INTEND TO RECHECK READINGS AND POSSIBLY REPLACE PEDAL ASSEMBLY. MAY ALSO CHECK HARNESS RESISTANCE AND/OR CONSULT DEALER. MILEAGE REPORTED IS APPROXIMATE. *TR
MY 2006 SUBARU LEGACY WAGON SUDDENLY LOSES ACCELERATION SOMETIMES, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, CRUISE CONTROL FLASHES, AND THE GAS PEDAL DOES NOTHING. THE CAR THROWS A P2138 CODE "THROTTLE/PEDAL POSITION SENSOR" CODE WHEN CHECKED. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 10 TIMES OVER THE LAST YEAR. IF YOU RESTART THE CAR, IT SOME TIMES GOES AWAY, MOST TIMES IT REQUIRES SEVERAL RESTARTS AND TIME. THE CAR WILL DO THIS WHEN MOVING FAST ON THE HIGHWAY OR JUST SITTING. THE GAS GOES LIMP AND THERE IS NO REVVING OR ACCELERATION. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND APPARENTLY DISCUSSED ON MANY FORUMS, ALL INVOLVING SUBARU'S FROM THE SAME ERA. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SUBARU LEGACY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASH INTO THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE SHOULDER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
MY 2006 SUBARU OUTBACK LL BEAN HAS BEEN CUTTING OUT ON ME WHILE DRIVING. ONE INCIDENT WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGH SPEED. THE GAS PEDAL WENT LIMP AND I HAD TO NAVIGATE OVER 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE SHOULDER. GAS PEDAL WAS COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING. EVERY TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED IT WAS EITHER RAINING OR SNOWING OUTSIDE. TOOK THE OUTBACK INTO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY WEREN'T SURE WHAT THE CAUSE WAS BECAUSE THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE. THEY SUGGESTED REPLACING THE GAS PEDAL ASSEMBLY, BUT THEY WERE NOT CERTAIN. THE SAME SITUATION HAPPENED ONCE WHEN I TURNED ON THE CRUISE CONTROL.
DRIVING AT 35MPH I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE TO GO UP A HILL AND NOTHING HAPPENED. STEERING BECAME VERY TIGHT. HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SHUT CAR OFF AND WAITED THEN TURNED BACK ON. HAS HAPPENED 1 OTHER TIME SINCE FIRST INCIDENT, WITH NO WARNING OR INDICATION. RESEARCHED ONLINE TO FIND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE'S THROTTLE/PEDAL POSITION SWITCH. HAD I BEEN ON A MORE BUSY STREET OR ON A HIGHWAY WHEN THIS OCCURRED, NUMEROUS VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN EFFECTED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SUBARU LEGACY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART IT. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
I WAS DRIVING IN THE LEFT LANE OF THE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR WHEN THE ACCELERATOR STOPPED RESPONDING. I WOULD PUSH THE GAS PEDAL AND NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. THE ENGINE SEEMED TO BE RUNNING NOMINALLY (IDLING, SINCE THE ACCELERATOR WASN'T WORKING). NO UNUSUAL SOUNDS, NO JERKING, NOTHING. THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I MANAGED TO GET ACROSS THE LANES OF TRAFFIC COASTING AND ROLLED SLOWLY INTO A GAS STATION. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND EVERYTHING WORKED FINE AGAIN. I FINISHED DRIVING TO WORK WITHOUT INCIDENT. I WENT AFTER WORK AND HAD THE CHECK ENGINE CODE READ. IT WAS A STORED CODE (NO LONGER ACTIVELY FAULTED) OF P2138 WHICH IS A THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR ERROR. I'VE BEEN READING ONLINE AND THIS APPEARS TO BE VERY COMMON AND AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR LOTS OF PEOPLE. IT IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS TO NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL YOUR CAR RANDOMLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. HOPEFULLY YOU CAN HELP MAKE SUBARU FIX THIS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES, THE ACCELERATION PEDAL SUDDENLY BECAME COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE BY DEPRESSING THE PEDAL TWICE BUT, TO NO AVAIL. AT THIS POINT, I WAS COASTING BUT, THE CAR WAS IDLING AT EXACTLY 2K RPMS. LUCKILY, THE ROAD I WAS ON WASN'T TOO BUSY AND I WAS TO SAFELY PULL OFF THE ROAD, INTO THE GRASS. AFTER WHICH, KILLED THE ENGINE. I WAITED ABOUT FIVE MINUTES, STARTED THE CAR, TESTED MY ACCELERATOR, AND IT WORKED AGAIN. SO, I WAITED FIVE MORE MINUTES, TESTED AGAIN, AND DROVE HOME. NO OTHER INCIDENTS THUS FAR. I'M GOING TO TEST THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR'S (AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL SENSOR'S) SEATING, CLEAN THE CONNECTORS AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE ONE OR BOTH OF THE SENSORS. *TR
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG STATUS LIGHT IS INTERMITTENT. IN COLD WEATHER, IT DOES NOT WORK, GENERATING AN AIRBAG FAULT. THE PROBLEM IS POOR SOLDER IN PART #84621AG41A. OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING WITH MY 6 MONTH PREGNANT WIFE. NO INDICATION OF IMPENDING PROBLEM. SUDDENLY THE AT OIL TEMP INDICATOR LIGHTED UP AND SPLIT SECOND I LOSS ENGINE POWER WITH STEERING BECAME STIFF. GOOD THING I WAS NOT IN THE FREEWAY YET AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER WITH RESIDUAL MOMENTUM. THIS COULD BE WORSE IF I AM PASSING THRU MY DAILY COMMUTE OF USING THE BRIDGE OR IF IT HAPPENED IN THE FREEWAY BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE TOTAL CONTROL OF THE CAR BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO DIAGNOSE THE ER-HC ERROR IN THE DASH AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE ISSUE WAS DUE TO MELTED WIRING HARNESS CONNECTING ALL THE COMPUTER SYSTEMS. THEIR ONLY REASON IS THAT IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR 133K MILES THAT'S WHY WE SAW THE ISSUE. I THINK THIS IS A RELIABILITY/SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SUBARU LEGACY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE CRUISE CONTROL AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND ENGAGED INTO LIMP MODE. THE CONTACT SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE WITHOUT FAILURE HOWEVER, THE WARNING LIGHTS CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,300. UPDATED 1/30/13 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE DIDN'T IMMEDIATELY GO INTO LIMP MODE, BUT IT DID AFTER A PERIOD OF 2-10 MINUTES AFTER THE HAZARD LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. UPDATED 01/31/13
VEHICLE FAILED TO SUSTAIN HIGHWAY SPEED ALTHOUGH PEDAL WAS PRESSED STEADILY AND THEN VARIABLY TO REGAIN THROTTLE CONTROL. VEHICLE STALLED ON FREEWAY, VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. MECHANIC TEST SHOW ERROR CODE P2138. REPLACED ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR SWITCH ASSEMBLY TO RESOLVE ISSUE. NO PRIOR EVIDENCE OF FAILURE TO PROVIDE WARNING PRIOR TO THROTTLE SYSTEM FAILURE. COST TO REPAIR: $282.00 P&L, 296.26 WITH TAX. *TR
OUR 2006 LEGACY OUTBACK WAS OUR 4TH FAMILY SUBARU, AND WAS RECENTLY PURCHASED USED. I'M A DRIVER WITH OVER 48 YEARS OF ACCIDENT-FREE EXPERIENCE IN NEW ENGLAND AND THE NORTHERN US, TRAVELING ON PERSONAL AND BUSINESS TRIPS DURING ALL TYPES OF SEVERE WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS. WHILE DRIVING ON A TWO-LANE STATE ROAD, LIGHT SNOW HAD JUST BEGUN. SPEED LIMIT (50) AND JUST DEVELOPING CONDITIONS WARRANTED NO SPECIAL CONCERNS, HOWEVER ONCE OR TWICE THE BACK END FELT AS THOUGH WIND WAS AFFECTING TRAVEL (THERE WAS NO WIND), I SLOWED TO 30-35 MPH ALTHOUGH SNOW STILL HADN'T COVERED THE ROAD. MINUTES LATER WHILE ON A STRAIGHT-AWAY WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC APPROACHING AT A DISTANCE, THE FRONT END BEGAN DRIFTING INTO THE OTHER LANE. WITHOUT BRAKING OR ANY SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN ACCELERATION, I SLOWLY CORRECTED AND THE CAR BEGAN TO COME BACK TO THE RIGHT, HOWEVER AS I STRAIGHTENED THE WHEEL, THE CAR BEGAN PUSHING HARD TO THE RIGHT, AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO MY COUNTER STEERING. THE CAR WENT OFF THE ROAD AND STRUCK A TREE NEAR THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. NOW I CAN UNDERSTAND THE CAR DRIFTING TO THE RIGHT AFTER MY INITIAL CORRECTION, SINCE THE ROAD WAS CROWNED IN THE CENTER AND THE ROAD HAD SNOW ON IT. HOWEVER, I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE CAR HAD DRIFTED TO THE LEFT INITIALLY. IT WAS A STRAIGHT-AWAY, I WAS STEERING STRAIGHT SO IT WASN'T A CASE OF UNDER-STEER, AND THE PECULIAR THING WAS THAT AT THE TIME IT FELT AS THOUGH THE REAR END WAS PUSHING ME OUT OF MY LANE. NONE OF THIS MADE ANY SENSE UNTIL AFTER THE ACCIDENT WHEN WE BEGAN RESEARCHING AND LEARNED OF SIMILAR REPORTS DESCRIBED AS 'GHOST WALKING'. THE INITIAL EXPERIENCE OF THE 'WIND' SENSATION WIGGLING THE BACK END, AND THE INEXPLICABLE 'PUSH' FROM THE REAR RIGHT SEEMED TO FIT WELL WITH THE EXPERIENCES OF OTHERS. ONE OTHER NOTE, BETWEEN OUR TWO DOGS AND SOME LUGGAGE, WE DID HAVE ABOUT 250 LBS LOADED FROM THE REAR SEATS TO THE STORAGE AREA. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CRUISE CONTROL STARTED FLASHING, WITH NO RESPONSE FROM THE GAS PEDAL, ONLY A HIGH IDLE. HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CLEARED AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. OUT OF TOWN FOR THE SECOND OCCURRENCE SAME THING HAPPENED, NOW SUBARU HAS THE CAR AND I WAS TOLD THE ENGINE HARNESS HAS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1883.36. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR
THE TURBOCHARGER IN MY 2005 SUBARU LEGACY GT HAS NEEDED REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES. EACH TIME THE CAR BECOMES UN-DRIVABLE AND HAS ALSO CUT OFF WHILE IN MOTION IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE HAD THIS OCCUR IN JANUARY 2011, AUGUST 2012 AND NOW AGAIN IN OCTOBER 2012. THE CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED REGULARLY AND HAS BEEN DRIVEN UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. SUBARU HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT IS DEFECTIVE BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS SAFETY CONCERN. I AM ONE OF QUITE A FEW CUSTOMERS REPORTING THE SAME ISSUE. DESPITE HAVING THE VEHICLE SERVICED BY SUBARU EACH TIME THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO RECTIFY THIS RECURRING HAZARD. THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON THAT A VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE AN ISSUE OF THIS MAGNITUDE OR SEVERITY AT 63000, 68000 AND AGAIN AT 69000 MILES. ASIDE FROM THE EXPENSE INVOLVED THE ISSUE IS CERTAINLY OF GREAT SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
MANY OF THE SUBARU VEHICLES ARE BEING RECALLED BECAUSE OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION - ARM CONTROL - AND I FEEL MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL AND IT IS NOT. IT IS A DEFECT IN SO MANY OF THEIR VEHICLES. WHAT CAN I DO TO HAVE SUBARU REIMBURSE ME FOR THIS DEFECT? THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP. *TR
JUNE 2012 - REPLACED FRONT CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS WHICH WERE WORN AFTER ONLY ~80,000 MILES, EARLIER THAN WOULD BE EXPECTED. REAR CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS ARE ALSO WEARING AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. AUGUST 2013 - AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON DASHBOARD CAME ON AND STAYED ON WHILE DRIVING WITH A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT. BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE SHOP WHO INFORMED ME IT WAS A FAULTY MAP LIGHT ASSEMBLY. WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THIS IS COMMON WITH SUBARU'S WHICH RESEARCH ONLINE CONFIRMED. *JS
THE VEHICLE STOPPED RESPONDING TO THROTTLE PEDAL INPUT, RESULTING IN HAVING TO PULL OFF THE ROAD, ACROSS LANES OF TRAFFIC. ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT FLASHES. AFTER RESTARTING 3 TIMES THE LIGHTS GO AWAY. DEALER COULDN'T REPLICATE SO WOULD NOT COVER UNDER WARRANTY. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS SINCE, USUALLY ONLY IN SUMMER. CODE IS P2138 AND APPEARS TO BE A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH SUBARU VEHICLES. *TR
I CONTINUOUSLY RECEIVE ERROR P2138 ON MY 2006 SUBARU LEGACY. THIS ERROR IS ASSOCIATED WITH THROTTLE/PEDAL POSITION SENSOR/SWITCH. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ERROR RELATED TO THE SENSOR ON THE GAS PEDAL OR THE THROTTLE BODY FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL AND OTHER SUBARU MODELS AROUND THE SAME TIME FRAME. THIS ISSUE CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO LOOSE POWER/ABILITY OF THE GAS PEDAL OF THE VEHICLE AT UNKNOWN TIMES. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60+MPH, I AM LUCKY NO ACCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED SO FAR. IF I AM UNABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SHOULDER, I HAVE TO STOP THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY OR ROAD AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND TRY AND RESTART. WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 55MPH, MY LEGACY'S THROTTLE BECAME UNRESPONSIVE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE CRUISE LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY COAST OFF THE ROAD AND A SUBSEQUENT CODE CHECK REVEALED A CODE 2138 (THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR). IN THE ENSUING MONTHS I REPLACED THE TPS, WHICH DIDN'T HELP, THEN RESEATED THE CONNECTION ON THE THROTTLE ITSELF, WHICH WORKED FOR ABOUT SIX MONTHS. THE PROBLEM HAS RECENTLY RECURRED AND SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
BEFORE THIS - ENGINE REPLACED WITH VERY FEW MILES - SUBARU CLAIMED NO WARRANTY - INSURANCE PAID BASED ON TINY LEAK IN RADIATOR - CAR JUST QUIT. NEVER KNEW OF ANY LEAK - NOT WATER IN GARAGE FLOOR EVER. THEN ON 12/28/10 HAD HEARD LOUD KNOCKING NOISE IN FRONT END. SUBARU SENT WRECKER (2 HRS_ 1-WAY) TO PICK UP CAR - REPLACED FRONT END PROBLEMS. CONTINUED/CONSTANT PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE - TRULY A LEMON. I AM 77 - HAVE BEEN STRANDED MORE THAN 2 X'S RECENTLY - CAR JUST LOSES POWER - CK ENGINE & CRUISE LIGHTS - ALSO 10/9/12 DASH LIGHTS ON DROVE 6+ HOURS TO SERVICE IN NEW BRAUNFELS, TX. COMPLAINT PERTAINS TO A 2006 SUBARU LEGACY 4DR SEDAN. IN 2009, WE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL INSTANCES OF WHERE THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF COMPLETELY WHEN THE DRIVER STOPPED AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. COULD NOT RE-START FOR A MINUTE OR TWO. MULTIPLE TRIPS TO THE DEALER OVER 9 MONTHS UNTIL FINALLY DIAGNOSED AS A DEFECTIVE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. REPLACED BY DEALER (N/C). MY REASON FOR THE REPORT IS THAT THIS COULD OF OCCURRED (BUT DID NOT) ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WHEN A DRIVER WOULD COME TO A STOP DUE TO TRAFFIC. I HAVE AN 06 SUBARU LEGACY GT.AT MY 30,000MILE CHECKUP THE REPORT STATES GOOD EXCEPT THE REAR BRAKE PADS & ROTORS WHICH IS RATED; MAY REQUIRE FOLLOW UP ATTENTION.THE REAR ROTORS WERE MACHINED. AT 37,778 MILES THE RADIO WAS REPLACED DUE TO IT SHORTING OUT. AT THIS MILEAGE MY COOLANT CAP IS NO LONGER HOLDING PRESSURE & HAS TO BE REPLACED. AT 44,542MILES, THE INVOICE SAYS REPLACE REAR BRAKES AS ONLY THE BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED & THE REAR ROTORS WERE MACHINED 6,000MILES AGO. AT 47,560 MILES FOURTH GEAR IS GRINDING.THE INVOICE STATES; FOUND LOW/DIRTY MANUAL TRANSMISSION FLUID.THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS CHANGED AT 30,000MILES & THE FLUID LEVELS ARE TO BE CHECKED AT EVERY VISIT WHICH WAS LAST AT 47,478 MILES.TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS REPLACED.AT 47,560 MILES; FOUND REAR BRAKE ROTORS WARPED EXCESSIVELY.THIS WAS NOT MENTIONED AT 44,542MILES WHEN THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED. THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS WERE RESURFACED AT THIS TIME AGAIN; AS THE FRONT ROTORS WERE TO THIN & WERE REPLACED. FROM 3-5-08 WHEN THE LAST MAJOR INSPECTION WAS DONE THE FRONT ROTORS WERE MARKED;MAY REQUIRE FOLLOW UP ATTENTION.ON 4-17-08 THE ROTORS ARE TOO THIN AND NEED TO BE REPLACED.AT 50,129 MILES THE WHEEL BEARINGS WERE REPLACED.THE LEAKING INNER AXLE SEALS WAS UNNOTICED BY THE TECHNICIAN UNTIL I MENTIONED IT. THE INVOICE STATES;THE TECHNICIAN FOUND THE FRONT INNER AXLE SEALS LEAKING. FOUND KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM BOTH FRONT AXLES CAUSED BY LACK OF GREASE DUE TO LEAKING BOOTS. THE AXLE BOOTS WERE REPLACED. AT 53,455 MILES FOUND FRONT ROTORS WARPED, RESURFACED FRONT ROTORS AS THEY WERE JUST REPLACED AT 47,560 MILES. THE CLUTCH FEELS THAT IT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY,FOURTH GEAR IS GRINDING AGAIN & IS DIFFICULT TO GET INTO GEAR.WHEN SHIFTING AT TIMES, CLUTCH WILL BE COMPLETELY DISENGAGED AND VEHICLE REVS TO 5000+RPMS FOR NO REASON.I PICKED MY VEHICLE UP TO TAKE TO MY TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST FOR A 2ND OPINION; THE HOOD WASN'T CLOSED, IT WAS ONLY LATCHED.
ON JUNE 24, 2008 MY 06 SUBARU LEGACY LGT WAGON SUFFERED A SERIOUS ENGINE FAILURE. MY OIL PICKUP TUBE COMPLETELY SHEARED OFF FROM THE ENGINE BLOCK DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW. APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THESE PICKUP TUBES FOR THE SUBARU LEGACY & IMPREZA MODELS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO REPORT MY OIL LIGHT WAS FLASHING, AND I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP REP "TO DRIVE IT IN AND THEY WILL CHECK IT OUT". I ASKED AGAIN ARE YOU SURE ITS OK TO DRIVE AND WAS TOLD YES. LATER THAT DAY I CALLED THE DEALER AND ASKED WHAT WAS GOING ON AND WAS TOLD "MY CAR WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE LOOKED AT TODAY BUT I COULD COME GET IT AND BRING IT IN TOMORROW". I AGAIN ASKED WHAT WAS WRONG AND WAS TOLD "THEY PULLED A COUPLE OF CAM TIMING CODES BUT THE CAR WAS OK TO DRIVE". THEN 20 MINUTES LATER THE DEALER CALLED ME AND SAID "WE HAVE TO PUT YOU IN A LOANER CAR BECAUSE WE DROVE YOUR CAR INTO THE SHOP CHECKED YOUR OIL LEVEL WHICH WAS FINE, BUT WHEN WE TESTED YOUR OIL PRESSURE WE FOUND IT TO BE ZERO SO THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE, AND IF I DID I WOULD BLOW THE MOTOR". I EXPLAINED TO THE REP AGAIN BUT WHAT ABOUT ME BEING TOLD TO DRIVE IT IN HERE. AGAIN WAS TOLD "DON'T WORRY YOUR CAR CAN GO SOMETIME WITHOUT OIL BECAUSE OF THE NEW OILS TODAY & THE WAY ENGINES ARE BUILT". WITHOUT AN OIL PICKUP TUBE YOUR ENGINE HAS NO OIL PRESSURE, IN SOME SEVERE CASES THE ONLY INDICATION THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM IS YOUR OIL LIGHT WILL FLASH THEN BOOM YOU BLEW YOUR ENGINE. THE DEALERSHIP INSISTS "MY ENGINE IS FINE AND IT CAN RUN WITHOUT OIL PRESSURE FOR SOMETIME WITHOUT CAUSING ANY DAMAGE". EVERY MECHANIC I TALK TO STATES YOUR ENGINE CAN NOT LAST WITH OUT OIL, AND IT HAS CAUSED HARM TO THE ENGINE OR COMPONENTS OF MY ENGINE. SUBARU DID REPLACE THE PART UNDER WARRANTY BUT NOW I AM LEFT WITH A DAMAGE MOTOR NO EXTRA ADDED INSURANCE. SUBARU REFUSING TO EITHER REBUILD MY CURRENT MOTOR OR PUT A NEW ONE IN. 2006 SUBARU LEGACY, BOUGHT NEW, IT HAS EXPERIENCED A STUTTER SINCE NEW. THE STUTTER OR LACK OF HESITATION OCCURS EVERY TIME I STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL. IT CAUSES ME TO HESITATE AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND EVERYWHERE ELSE AS I KNOW THE CAR WILL NOT RESPOND PROPERLY. I MISSED THE LEMON LAW POTENTIAL OF THIS ISSUE BECAUSE I WAS GOING THROUGH A DIVORCE, CHANGING JOBS AND MOVING. THE BIGGEST REASON I MISSED THE LEMON LAW RECOVERY IS I KEPT BELIEVING THE DEALERS COMMENTS THAT IT WOULD BE FIXED AT THE MAJOR TUNE UP. I CONSISTENTLY REPORTED TO THE DEALER AT EVERY SERVICE VISIT THAT THE CAR STILL HESITATES TO NO AVAIL. I HAVE FOUND ONLY LIMITED INFORMATION SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS WAS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE OF THIS PROBLEM (SUPPOSEDLY, SERVICING CORRECTED THE PROBLEM AFTER THE FIRST TIME) (2) CAR WAS STUCK INSIDE A NATURE RESERVE THAT HAS LIMITED ACCESS. ALTHOUGH I HAVE THE FULL WARRANTY PACKAGE, I COULD NOT GET APPROPRIATE SERVICE TO TOW THE CAR OUT FOR 1.5 DAYS, AND SO MISSED 1 DAY OF WORK. (3) THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, THE FUEL PUMP AND RELATED PARTS WERE REPLACED. THIS TIME, I FOUND AND REPLACED A BURNT-OUT FUSE FOR THE FUEL PUMP, AND THE NEW FUSE IMMEDIATELY BURNT OUT WHEN I TRIED TO START THE CAR. IT HAS NOW BEEN TOWED TO MY DEALER (1.5 HOURS AWAY FROM WHERE THE PROBLEM OCCURRED). (4) I HAVE NO FAITH IN THE SAFETY OF THIS PARTICULAR (BRAND NEW) VEHICLE. ACCORDING TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL THERE IS A SAFETY FEATURE THAT TURNS OFF THE WIPER MOTOR BEFORE IT BECOMES TOO HOT. ALTHOUGH THE CIRCUIT BREAKER DID NOT APPEAR TO BE FAULTY THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED IT. DURING THE RETURN TRIP THE WIPERS FAILED AGAIN.
