THIS ONLY AFFECT 05-06 LEGACY GT OWNERS. THE UP-PIPE FOR THE SUBARU LEGACY GT IN THESE GIVEN YEARS HAVE A CATALYTIC CONVERTER IN THERE AND AFTER A CERTAIN MILEAGE, THE DEBRIS OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER BREAKING DOWN WOULD SHOOT BACK INTO THE TURBOCHARGER. THAT WOULD CAUSE THE TURBO FAILURE AND STALL THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IN THE UP-PIPE DOES NOT HAVE ANY INDICATION OF % OF WEAR AND MOST NON-CAR ENTHUSIASTS WOULD NOT KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE IS CAUSED BY EXCEPT FOR AN EXPENSIVE TURBO REPLACEMENT AND UP-PIPE REPLACEMENTS. MOST OF THE OWNERS OF THESE ISSUES TURN OVER TO CATLESS UP-PIPE BUT THAT WOULD CAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON AND OVERBOOSTING OR THE ENGINE RUN RICH, FURTHER DAMAGING THE ENGINE. THIS CAN BE PRETTY DANGEROUS IF A PERSON IS ON A ROAD TRIP AND HAVING A LONG DRIVE AS IT DIRECTLY IMPACT THE DRIVABILITY OF THE VEHICLE. SUBARU HAS RECOGNIZE THE ISSUE AND THEREFORE 07+ TURBO MODELS ALL HAVE A CATLESS UP-PIPE WITH THE ECU TUNED TO THAT SPECIFICATION. I BELIEVE IT IS NOT FAIR FOR 05-06 LEGACY GT OWNERS TO HAVE TO SUFFER FROM SUCH A CRITICAL ISSUE WITHOUT SOME SORT OF COMPENSATION OR RECALL. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME
THE CYLINDER HEAD GASKET WENT OUT WITH ONLY 67,000 MILEAGE ON THE ENGINE AND I HEAR THIS HAPPENING ON THIS STYLE AND YEAR OF THE CAR. I HAVE HEARD THAT SUBARU IS RECALLING MANY OF THE ENGINES FROM 2012 TO 2013. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE AND SUBARU SHOULD RECALL THE ENGINES AND FIX THIS PROBLEM FREE OF CHARGE.
WAS IN CRUISE CONTROL AROUND 45 MPH, CAME TO A STOP AND CE AND CC LIGHTS ILLUMINATED, AND GAS PEDAL WAS DISSABLED, SO A FELLOW MOTORIST HELPED ME PUSH THE CAR AWAY FROM THE INTERSECTION. AFTER TURNING ENGINE ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES THROTTLE CONTROL CAME BACK AND I COULD DRIVE HOME (CE AND CC LIGHTS STILL ON). I REPLACED THE GAS PEDAL AND RESET THE LIGHTS. SIMILAR PROBLEM REOCCURRED ON WAY TO WORK, CE AND CC LIGHTS CAME ON BUT STILL HAD THROTTLE CONTROL AND CC WAS INACTIVE. I SUSPECT A DISCONNECT IN THE DRIVE BY WIRE LOGIC FOR THE GAS PEDAL VERSUS THE CC.
THE ENGINE SHUTOFF WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THIS CAR IN TRAFFIC. THE RESULTING PROBLEM WAS A FAILED CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. THIS FAILURE SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND THE CAR WAS WITHOUT POWER TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HAD SHE BEEN MAKING A LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC, THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A MAJOR MULTIPLE CAR ACCIDENT. MY QUESTION TO SUBARU (GIVEN THEY LIKE TO TOUT THEIR AUTOMOBILES' SAFETY RECORD) IS WHY WOULD ANY ENGINE SENSOR FAILURE LEAVE THE CAR WITHOUT POWER? ISN'T THIS THE SAME AS THE INFAMOUS GM IGNITION SWITCH TRAGEDY? SINCE THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED, MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR FOR UNDERSTANDABLE REASONS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SUBARU LEGACY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 181,000.
WHILE DRIVING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CRUISE CONTROL STARTED FLASHING, WITH NO RESPONSE FROM THE GAS PEDAL, ONLY A HIGH IDLE. HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CLEARED AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. OUT OF TOWN FOR THE SECOND OCCURRENCE SAME THING HAPPENED, NOW SUBARU HAS THE CAR AND I WAS TOLD THE ENGINE HARNESS HAS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1883.36. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR
THE TURBOCHARGER IN MY 2005 SUBARU LEGACY GT HAS NEEDED REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES. EACH TIME THE CAR BECOMES UN-DRIVABLE AND HAS ALSO CUT OFF WHILE IN MOTION IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE HAD THIS OCCUR IN JANUARY 2011, AUGUST 2012 AND NOW AGAIN IN OCTOBER 2012. THE CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED REGULARLY AND HAS BEEN DRIVEN UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. SUBARU HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT IS DEFECTIVE BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS SAFETY CONCERN. I AM ONE OF QUITE A FEW CUSTOMERS REPORTING THE SAME ISSUE. DESPITE HAVING THE VEHICLE SERVICED BY SUBARU EACH TIME THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO RECTIFY THIS RECURRING HAZARD. THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON THAT A VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE AN ISSUE OF THIS MAGNITUDE OR SEVERITY AT 63000, 68000 AND AGAIN AT 69000 MILES. ASIDE FROM THE EXPENSE INVOLVED THE ISSUE IS CERTAINLY OF GREAT SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
BEFORE THIS - ENGINE REPLACED WITH VERY FEW MILES - SUBARU CLAIMED NO WARRANTY - INSURANCE PAID BASED ON TINY LEAK IN RADIATOR - CAR JUST QUIT. NEVER KNEW OF ANY LEAK - NOT WATER IN GARAGE FLOOR EVER. THEN ON 12/28/10 HAD HEARD LOUD KNOCKING NOISE IN FRONT END. SUBARU SENT WRECKER (2 HRS_ 1-WAY) TO PICK UP CAR - REPLACED FRONT END PROBLEMS. CONTINUED/CONSTANT PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE - TRULY A LEMON. I AM 77 - HAVE BEEN STRANDED MORE THAN 2 X'S RECENTLY - CAR JUST LOSES POWER - CK ENGINE & CRUISE LIGHTS - ALSO 10/9/12 DASH LIGHTS ON DROVE 6+ HOURS TO SERVICE IN NEW BRAUNFELS, TX. NEAREST DEALER IS 2.5 HRS AWAY 1-WAY. NEED DEALERS NO ONE ELSE WILL EVEN LOOK AT SUBARU. THIS IS TRULY THE SUBARU FROM HELL!!!!! ON JUNE 24, 2008 MY 06 SUBARU LEGACY LGT WAGON SUFFERED A SERIOUS ENGINE FAILURE. MY OIL PICKUP TUBE COMPLETELY SHEARED OFF FROM THE ENGINE BLOCK DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW. APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THESE PICKUP TUBES FOR THE SUBARU LEGACY & IMPREZA MODELS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO REPORT MY OIL LIGHT WAS FLASHING, AND I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP REP "TO DRIVE IT IN AND THEY WILL CHECK IT OUT". I ASKED AGAIN ARE YOU SURE ITS OK TO DRIVE AND WAS TOLD YES. LATER THAT DAY I CALLED THE DEALER AND ASKED WHAT WAS GOING ON AND WAS TOLD "MY CAR WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE LOOKED AT TODAY BUT I COULD COME GET IT AND BRING IT IN TOMORROW". I AGAIN ASKED WHAT WAS WRONG AND WAS TOLD "THEY PULLED A COUPLE OF CAM TIMING CODES BUT THE CAR WAS OK TO DRIVE". THEN 20 MINUTES LATER THE DEALER CALLED ME AND SAID "WE HAVE TO PUT YOU IN A LOANER CAR BECAUSE WE DROVE YOUR CAR INTO THE SHOP CHECKED YOUR OIL LEVEL WHICH WAS FINE, BUT WHEN WE TESTED YOUR OIL PRESSURE WE FOUND IT TO BE ZERO SO THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE, AND IF I DID I WOULD BLOW THE MOTOR". I EXPLAINED TO THE REP AGAIN BUT WHAT ABOUT ME BEING TOLD TO DRIVE IT IN HERE. AGAIN WAS TOLD "DON'T WORRY YOUR CAR CAN GO SOMETIME WITHOUT OIL BECAUSE OF THE NEW OILS TODAY & THE WAY ENGINES ARE BUILT". WITHOUT AN OIL PICKUP TUBE YOUR ENGINE HAS NO OIL PRESSURE, IN SOME SEVERE CASES THE ONLY INDICATION THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM IS YOUR OIL LIGHT WILL FLASH THEN BOOM YOU BLEW YOUR ENGINE. THE DEALERSHIP INSISTS "MY ENGINE IS FINE AND IT CAN RUN WITHOUT OIL PRESSURE FOR SOMETIME WITHOUT CAUSING ANY DAMAGE". EVERY MECHANIC I TALK TO STATES YOUR ENGINE CAN NOT LAST WITH OUT OIL, AND IT HAS CAUSED HARM TO THE ENGINE OR COMPONENTS OF MY ENGINE. SUBARU DID REPLACE THE PART UNDER WARRANTY BUT NOW I AM LEFT WITH A DAMAGE MOTOR NO EXTRA ADDED INSURANCE. SUBARU REFUSING TO EITHER REBUILD MY CURRENT MOTOR OR PUT A NEW ONE IN. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP MY CAR IS ONLY TWO YEARS OLD WITH 37000 MILES ON IT. SINCERELY, DESPERATE *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SUBARU LEGACY. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. ONCE SHE PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER, SHE OPENED THE HOOD AND NOTICED FLAMES COMING FROM THE RADIATOR. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HER LOCAL MECHANIC AND REPAIRED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 36,700.
