WHEN BRAKING TO A SUDDEN STOP, THE CAR SHUDDERS AND STALLS SIMILAR TO THE FEELING OF STALLING OUT IN A CAR WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THE LOCAL SUBARU DEALER/SERVICE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS RELATED TO THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND ESTIMATED $2000 TO FIX. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ISSUED FOR UP TO 100K OR 10 YEARS THROUGH JULY 30, 2018. HOWEVER, THE ISSUE DID NOT START UNTIL AUGUST OF 2018 AND MY CAR WAS WELL OVER 100K AT THAT TIME. THERE ARE SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS IN HAVING A CAR DIE REPEATEDLY.
CAR STOPPED DEAD ON THE FREEWAY WHILE ATTEMPTING TO EXIT, AND AGAIN IN A MAJOR INTERSECTION. CAR WAS DIAGNOSED AS NEEDING AN ENTIRELY NEW TRANSMISSION AT A SUBARU DEALER AND THE QUOTED COST WAS MORE THAN THE VALUE OF THE CAR. THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ATTEMPTING TO COVER UP THIS SITUATION BUT, AS A NEW OWNER, I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF THE END DATE OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN FORCED TO ISSUE A RECALL....NONE OF MY FAMILY WILL EVER DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AGAIN BECAUSE THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.
DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS GOING OFF. STARTS AS SOON AS THE VEHICLE TURNS ON. VERY RARELY DOES IT TURN OF. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS FLASHING, ANTI-SKID LIGHTS FLASHING, LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHTS FLASHING, CRUISE CONTROL LIGHTS FLASHING. HAVE TRIED MULTIPLE FIXES, BUT NOTHING WORKS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER 1 YEAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING 35 TO 40 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO SLOW DOWN, THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME SOFT AND STUCK TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL LIGHTLY. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, IT ONLY EMITTED A BEEPING SOUND AND FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO EUROPEAN CAR SALES AND SERVICE (201 WEST CLOVERLAND DRIVE, IRONWOOD, MICHIGAN 49938, (906) 932-5720) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND THE REAR AND FRONT BRAKE JUNCTIONS WERE CORRODED. THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED THE CONTACT WITH CASE NUMBER 1-35365382991. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE BRAKE FAILURE REPAIR ENDED IN MARCH OF 2009. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 148,000.
WHEN COMING TO A GRADUAL OR SUDDEN STOP, THE TORQUE CONVERTER LOCKS UP AND STALLS THE ENGINE. THIS HAPPENS QUITE FREQUENTLY AND HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO BE REAR-ENDED SEVERAL TIMES DUE TO THE SUDDEN STOPPING OF THE VEHICLE SEVERAL FEET BEFORE THE LIMIT LINE. THIS KNOWN FAILURE GOES BEYOND A MECHANICAL ISSUE, BUT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ENGAGE INTO SIXTH GEAR. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE IGNITION TURNED OFF AND IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 153,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO OVERHEAT AND THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS FUEL LEAKING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO VIC BAILEY MAZDA SUBARU (400 E DANIEL MORGAN AVE, SPARTANBURG, SC 29302, (864) 568-3338) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HEAD GASKET WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 220,000.
ON 4/22/2018 AT 2:33 PM I WAS DRIVING ALONG I-80 SOUTH OF HAZELTON, PA (HTTPS://GOO.GL/MAPS/GJHN82KH8PC2). I WAS GOING 65. THE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 60. THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OF US OR BEHIND US AND THE NEAREST OVERPASS WAS SEVERAL THOUSAND FEET AHEAD OF US. WE WERE NOT IN A FALLING ROCK AREA. SUDDENLY, THERE WAS A VERY LOUD POPPING SOUND. IMMEDIATELY, THERE WAS A LOUD WOOSHING SOUND OF AIR AND WHAT SOUNDED LIKE GRAVEL ON THE CAR'S ROOF. I DECELERATED AND MY TWO PASSENGERS LOOKED AROUND TO SEE IF SOMETHING HAD FALLEN OFF THE CAR AND WAS BEHIND US. WE SAW NOTHING IN THE ROADWAY BEHIND US. I SLOWLY SLID OPEN THE VISOR PANEL FOR THE SUNROOF AND SAW THE GLASS HAD SHATTERED. I PULLED OVER AND TOOK PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGE. THE DAMAGE (A 6" X 16" HOLE) WAS ALMOST IN THE DIRECT CENTER OF THE SUNROOF. THERE WERE NO STONES OR FOREIGN OBJECTS INSIDE THE HOLE.
MY HEADLIGHTS BOTH LOW BEAM AND HIGH GO OUT ON A MONTHLY BASIS. I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND LIVE IN THE MOUNTAINS OF LAKE TAHOE. THIS IS A NUISANCE AS WELL AS A CONSIDERABLE SAFETY HAZARD AND THE DEALERSHIP SEEMS TO THINK THERE IS NO ISSUE OTHER THAN CONTINUAL BAD BULBS. I AM CONSIDERING FILING A LAW SUIT AGAINST SUBA [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).' *PM
WHEN MY I BRAKE MY VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP AT RED LIGHTS, INTERSECTIONS, ETC THE ENGINE STALLS, WHICH MAKES ME HAVE TO PUT IT BACK IN PARK AND RESTART THE ENGINE. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I STOP MY VEHICLE.
WHEN DRIVING AND IN MOTION AND WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE CAR MAKES A SHUDDERING NOISE AND HAS STALLED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AT JUNCTIONS, TRAFFIC LIGHTS ETC., AND HAVE HAD TO TAKE DIVERSION TACTICS TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF OTHER CARS. I HAVE SEEN THIS IS A COMMON FAULT WITH SUBARU AND APPARENTLY HAS TO DO WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTOR.
GAS PEDAL GOES LIMP AND/OR WORKS INCONSISTENTLY/ERRATICALLY; THIS CAUSES THE CAR TO BECOME UNRESPONSIVE, CREATING POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE AT STOPLIGHTS/INTERSECTIONS, ON HIGHWAY, ISSUE MANIFESTS AS ACCELERATING IRREGULARLY AND LURCHING FORWARD UNPREDICTABLY; HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AT SPEED ON A HIGHWAY, WHILE STATIONARY AT STOPLIGHT, IN MOTION ON CITY STREETS, ETC.
COMPLAINT: SUBARU POWERTRAIN EXTENDED WARRANTY IS MEANINGLESS BECAUSE MY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA DEALER WILL NOT EVEN LOOK AT MY CAR TO DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT MY FREQUENT ENGINE STALL PROBLEM UPON BRAKING IS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE TORQUE CONVERTER. OR SOME OTHER CAUSE. MY 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK HAS HAD ALL RECOMMENDED SERVICES AND HAS ONLY 53K MILES. NO CHECK ENGINE OR OTHER WARNING LIGHTS HAVE TURNED ON. YESTERDAY, THE ENGINE STALLED AT TEN STOPS IN A ROW AND THEN EVERY OTHER STOP TIL I GOT HOME. SO FAR IT HAS RESTARTED BUT BECAUSE THE PROBLEM BEGAN ONLY ONE WEEK AGO AND IS RAPIDLY WORSENING, I AM AFRAID THE ENGINE WILL SOON FAIL TO RESTART OR WILL DIE WHILE MOVING IN TRAFFIC. MY LOCAL MECHANIC WILL NOT LOOK AT THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE SUBARU EXTENDED WARRANTY SINCE THEY CANNOT FIX IT IF IT IS THE POWERTRAIN. I DON'T WANT TO BE THE FIRST FATALITY THAT EVENTUALLY LEADS TO A RECALL. IS THERE ANY WAY TO HAVE SUBARU RECALL FOR INSPECTION CARS EXPERIENCING FREQUENT ENGINE STALL PROBLEMS OR OTHER SYMPTOMS OF BAD TORQUE CONVERTERS TO AT LEAST CONFIRM OR RULE OUT A POWERTRAIN DEFECT AS THE CAUSE?
IN MARCH 2013 AN AUTHORIZED SUBARU SERVICE DEPARTMENT NOTED THERE WAS A RECALL (49 CFR PART 573.6) FOR PUDDLE LIGHTS ON MY CAR AND ORDERED THE PARTS. THIS IS NOTED IN MY FILE AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY WERE GOING TO CALL ME WHEN THE PARTS CAME IN. THAT DID NOT HAPPEN. NOW MY PUDDLE LIGHTS HAVE FAILED AND THE SHORT MAKES IT SO MANY MORE FEATURES IN MY CAR DO NOT WORK (INTERIOR LIGHTS, GAUGES AND KEY FOB (CURRENTLY USE THE SAME FUSE). FOR SOME REASON MY VIN DOES NOT SHOW ON THE RECALL LOOK UP, BUT IT FITS THE VIN RANGE AS WELL AS MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT SUBARU CAN SKIRT THE RECALL, IF THE PUDDLE LIGHTS WERE INSTALLED AT THE DEALERSHIP AT TIME OF PURCHASE AND NOT AT THE FACTORY (SAME PART, AUTHORIZED SERVICE DEPARTMENT, NEW CAR)? THIS APPEARS TO BE THE CASE.TO DATE, SUBARU USA HAS OFFERED TO PAY HALF THE COST THE REPAIR ($881) IN THE INTEREST OF 'CUSTOMER SATISFACTION' AND NOT PER THE RECALL (SR1-30211430901). MY LOCAL MICHAEL'S SUBARU IN BELLEVUE WASHINGTON (SERVICE ADVISOR [XXX]) HAS NOT OFFERED ANYTHING AND HAD MADE FEW EFFORTS, IF ANY, TO CONTACT ME WITH STATUS. I FEEL THE BELLEVUE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DROPPED THE BALL 5 YEARS AGO WHEN IT WOULD GAVE BEEN EASIER TO ADDRESS (NEW RECALL AND NEWER CAR - 67,000 MILES). THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST NOTED IN DECEMBER 2017 WHEN THE KEY FOB STOPPED WORKING. THAT WAS TRACKED TO A SHORT IN ONE OF THE PUDDLE LIGHTS. I AM TRYING TO UNDERSTAND IF THIS PART SHOULD BE COVERED BY A RECALL AND IF THIS MIGHT ALSO BE RELATED TO THE MAGNUSON-MOSS WARRANTY ACT EVEN THOUGH THUS A A RECALL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE SUN ROOF EXPLODED FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUN ROOF NEEDED TO REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN.
CAR HAS STALLED UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AT SLOW SPEEDS, 4 TIMES OVER THE PAST YEAR. IT SHUDDERS, THEN STALLS COMPLETELY. RESTARTING IMMEDIATELY HAS CAUSED ANOTHER STALL WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE. WAITING SEVERAL MINUTES HAS ALLOWED A NORMAL START, ALTHOUGH TWICE THIS HAS HAPPENED IN DANGEROUS, HIGH-TRAFFIC SPOTS WITHOUT AN EASY SHOULDER TO PULL ON TO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WHILE APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND REVERSE OUT OF TRAFFIC. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER (JOHN HOWARD SUBARU, 1730 MILEGROUND RD, MORGANTOWN, WV 26505) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD BE REPAIRED UNDER THE WARRANTY EXTENSION. THE NEXT DAY, THE DEALER CALLED AND STATED THAT SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD A NEW TITLE, IT NO LONGER COULD BE REPAIRED UNDER THE WARRANTY EXTENSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AT 1-800-782-2783 AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. *TT UPDATED 8/22/18*JB
CVT TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS & STALLS AFTER BRAKING WHILE IN MOTION DUE TO TORQUE CONVERTER FAILURE. UPON STOPPING AT STOP SIGN, SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE TURN, OR STARTING FROM A STOPPED POSITION THE VEHICLE SHUDDERS THEN DRIFTS INTO INTERSECTION AND STALLS WHILE FACING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. FAILURE OF TORQUE CONVERTER WHILE AT INTERSECTIONS IS DANGEROUS AND FRIGHTENING. SUBARU REFUSES TO ASSIST IN COST OF SIGNIFICANT REPAIR AS IT WAS DIAGNOSED 3 WEEKS OUT OF WARRANTY DESPITE THEIR PLEDGE TO CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE STRONGLY CONSIDERED FOR A RECALL AS A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE TO SUBARU.
CAR IN PARK , IGNITION OFF. ENTERED CAR AND STARTED TO MOVE CAR APPROXIMATELY 30-25' TO PARK IN FRONT OF GARAGE. STEEL GARAGE DOOR DOWN. PROCEEDED TO GARAGE DOOR 1-2 MPH WITH FOOT ON BREAK. CAR ACCELERATED AT HIGH SPEED AND COULD NOT STOP OR SLOW DOWN CAR AND IT CRASHED THROUGH GARAGE DOOR AND WAS STOPED BY BOXES AT BACK OF GARAGE. ACCELERATION SUDDEN AND HIGH WITH NO INDICATION OF WHY. CAR DAMAGED DUE TO DEBRIS FROM FRAGMENTS OF STEEL DOOR MOSTLY ON TOP AND FRONT AND DRIVER SIDE OF CAR. AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY AT TIME OF ACCIDENT. MECHANIC UNABLE TO DETERMINE CAUSE. RECORDS AVAILABLE.
THE STEERING HAS A SHAKE TO IT ON THE HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 45 MPH AND UP . GETTING WORSE. I HAVE 125,000 IN IT, ITS IN GREAT SHAPE-CANT AFFORD ANOTHER CAR. NOW IT IS GETTING WORSE AND WHEN TURNING OFF THE HIGHWAY ON THE OFF RAMPS IT JERKS THE STEERING WHEEL FROM MY HANDS. ALMOST GONE OFF THE RAMP TWICE NOW.... BARE WHITE KNUCKLE DRIVING. NEW TIRES, BALANCED THREE TIMES, ROTORS TURNED, NEW BUSHINGS (WHICH WERE NOT NEEDED BUT SUGGESTED AS A FIX) ETC.... NO MECHANIC KNOWS WHAT IS HAPPENING. I AM GETTING SCARED TO DRIVE IT, BUT I LOVE THE CAR OVER ALL I JUST WANT AN ANSWER TO GT IT FIXED OR HAVE SUBARU TO FIND A FIX AND PUT OUT A RECALL SOON. NOW I SEE SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME THING---PLEASE, PLEASE HELP.
PASSANGER AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT DOES NOT GO OFF WHEN 90 LB PERSON SITS IN FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. DEALER SAYS UNIT IS WORKING WITH LARGER ADULT SITTING IN SEAT.
OCCASIONALLY THE 2.5 L ENGINE WITH CVT WILL APPEAR TO ALMOST STALL UPON DECELERATING AND COMING TO A STOP (AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, STOP SIGN, ETC.). THE ENGINE WILL SHUDDER, THE RPMS WILL DROP BELOW 700 AND THEN QUICKLY RETURN TO NORMAL IDLE (ABOUT 800 OR SO). HAVE NOT YET EXPERIENCED A STALL BUT HAVE COME CLOSE. OUR CAR HAS ABOUT 87000 MILES AND IS OTHERWISE IN GOOD CONDITION. OUR MECHANIC HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE, IT CANNOT BE DUPLICATED AND THERE ARE NO CODES. OTHER SIMILAR POSTS HAVE INDICATED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTOR MAY BE THE CULPRIT. CONSIDERING THE QUANTITY OF POSTS, AN INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE UNDERTAKEN. STALLING CAN BE A SAFETY PROBLEM.
MY HUSBAND TOOK IN MY SUBARU OUTBACK FOR RECALL. IT WAS VDC. FOLLOWING THE FIX FREQUENTLY THE OIL LIGHT WILL COME ON. ALSO THE BRAKE LIGHT WILL COME ON. ALSO THE TRACTION LIGHT WILL COME ON. I HAVE HAD MY CAR IN NUMEROUS TIMES AND THEY CAN'T FIX IT. THEY WERE ESPECIALLY NICE WHEN MY HUSBAND CAME IN. MY HUSBAND DIED IN APRIL AND I SEEM TO GET A RUN AROUND. THEY SAY THEY DON'T HAVE RENTALS FOR ME AND THAT THEY ARE LOSING MONEY BY GIVING ME A LOANER. THE LIGHTS COME ON WHEN I AM DRIVING AND IT CAN BE ON THE HIGHWAY, CITY STREETS, AND I AM NOT TURNING AT THE TIME. SOME TIMES THE BLINKER SOUND COMES ON WHEN I AM SITTING WITH THE ENGINE ON. IT IS REALLY FAST AND LOUD.
WHEN DRIVING ON INTERSTATE ROADS AND LOCAL ROADS: WITH BRAKING, CAR SHUTTERS AS IF NOT USING CLUTCH IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. MOST RECENTLY (TODAY 9/25/17), I WAS BRAKING TO TURN OFF LOCAL ROAD INTO PARKING LOT, CAR SHUTTERED AND STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT TO "P" AND RESTART BEFORE CARE BEHIND ME HIT ME. BRAKING-SHUTTER-STALL NEXT TIME A SERIOUS ACCIDENT COULD OCCUR.
VEHICLE HAS VIBRATIONS INCREASING WITH SPEED. MOST NOTICEABLE AT 60MPH AND ABOVE AND THEY HAVE BEEN GETTING WORSE. THE CAR WILL ALSO OCCASIONALLY VEER OFF TO THE RIGHT DURING BRAKING. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP FOR AN INSPECTION AND WAS TOLD THAT SUBARU HAD ISSUES WITH THE SUSPENSION THAT YEAR AND THAT THE SUSPENSION WAS UPGRADED IN SUBSEQUENT YEARS. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD COST ME $2000 IF I WANTED TO UPGRADE THE SUSPENSION, BUT THAT IT WASN'T A SAFETY ISSUE IF I CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE CAR.
I HAVE A HAVE A AUTO AIRBAG SETTLEMENT NOTICE
THE HEADLIGHTS ARE DIM AND DO NOT PROJECT A SAFE BEAM OF LIGHT. THIS ONLY AFFECTS THE NORMAL BEAM. THE HIGH BEAMS WORK WELL.
FLUIDS DRAINING FROM RADIATOR, WARNING LIGHTS FLASHING
I WAS BACKING MY OUTBACK A SHORT DISTANCE (ABOUT 20 FT.) TO A PARKING SPACE ACROSS THE STREET WHEN IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. I RAN INTO A PARKED TRUCK WITH GREAT IMPACT. THE CAR FELT LIKE IT HAD A MIND OF ITS OWN. IT WAS TERRIFYING.
TAKATA RECALL NOTICE RECEIVED
CAR BEGAN TO BOG DOWN AND STALL WHEN BREAKING. CAR WILL START TO SHAKE/SHUDDER AND THEN STALL WHEN STOPPING WHETHER THE ENGINE IS COLD OR HOT. THE CAR WILL STALL LIKE SOMEONE FORGETTING TO PUSH THE CLUTCH IN ON A MANUAL CAR WHEN STOPPING. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AND MOST TIMES I AM IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THE CAR WILL STALL AND REQUIRES IT TO BE SHIFTED INTO PARK, THE IGNITION TURNED OFF AND THEN THE CAR RESTARTED BEFORE CONTINUING ON. I HAVE BEGAN TO KEEP A VIDEO LOG OF ALL THE TIMES THE VEHICLE WILL STALL DRIVING FROM MY HOME TO WORK AND OTHER TRIPS. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT SUBARU NEEDS TO ADDRESS. IT APPEARS THEY WERE MADE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE IN 2014 BUT DID NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNTIL 2017 AND EVEN THEN THEY ARE NOT DOING A RECALL BUT A "EXTENDED COVERAGE". THEY GIVE ABSOLUTELY NO DETAILS AS TO WHY OTHER THAN TO SAY "FOR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AND CARE". NO ADMITTANCE OF ANY PROBLEMS BY SUBARU. DEALERS CAN'T TELL YOU WHY EITHER AND IT'S UP TO THEM TO DETERMINE IF IT'S RELATED TO THE CVT OR NOT.
WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED ON LOCAL ROADS THE PARKING BRAKE LIGHTS STARTS FLASHING, THE TRANSMISSION OIL TEMPERATURE LIGHT WENT ON AND THERE WAS A HIGH PITCHED SQUEALING SOUND. WE COULD NOT GET THE BRAKE LIGHT TO GO OFF BY PULLING THE BRAKE RELEASE LEVER. IT CLEARED ITSELF THE NEXT DAY. THE DEALER COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM BUT FOUND A BRAKE SWITCH FAILURE. THERE WERE ALSO 2 SOFTWARE UPDATES THAT WERE RELATED TO THE BRAKE AND TRANSMISSION SAFETY AND OPERATION. WE WERE CHARGED FOR ALL 3 EVEN THOUGH IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SAFETY RECALL.
COMPLAINT -- WHEN I GO TO BRAKE THE CAR STALLS, I HAVE TO PUMP THE BRAKES AND THEN BRAKE HARD TO PREVENT A STALL, IF I DON'T THE CAR STOPS AND I HAVE TO PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTART. I CANNOT DRIVE IN BACKED UP TRAFFIC. I CANNOT COME TO A SOFT STOP OR ROLL TO A STOP. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTER AT $1600 MY EXPENSE, AND POSSIBLE THE VALVE BODY THAT CAN BE DAMAGED BY THE CONVERTER FROM THE METAL SHARDS THAT WILL BE $1200, SO A TOTAL OF $2800, AND MY EXTRA WARRANTY HAS RUN OUT, OF COURSE. THERE IS A TSB 16-90-13--01/06/14, ON THIS ISSUE AND SUBARU HAS CHANGED OUT THE PART BUT IS MAKING THE CONSUMER FIT THE BILL, EVEN THOUGH THEY ADMIT IT IS THEIR FAULT. CAR STALLS ON THE ROAD WHEN YOU COME TO A SUDDEN STOP. THIS PROBLEM IS CONCERNING THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND THIS IS A HAZARDOUS PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A RECALL FOR THESE TYPE OF MODEL CARS.
WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, MY 2010 OUTBACK SOMETIMES STUTTERS AND THEN STALLS. I MUST THEN PUT THE CAR BACK IN PARK AND RESTART THE ENGINE BEFORE PULLING OUT AGAIN. THIS CREATES DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THE CAR BEHIND ME IS EXPECTING ME TO PULL OUT AGAIN WITHOUT THIS ADDED DELAY. I'M VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS IS GOING TO RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT AND I WILL BE REAR ENDED BY THE CAR BEHIND ME. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM IN THE SHOP THE ONE DAY THEY TRIED. I ALSO CONTACTED SUBARU CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND THEY SAID THE DEALER NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO RECREATE IT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. FROM WHAT I READ W/R/T OTHER'S EXPERIENCES, THIS SOUNDS LIKE THE TORQUE CONVERTER PROBLEM THAT SUBARU JUST RECENTLY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON, YET THEY ARE STILL NOT GOING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I WOULD HOPE THAT THIS COULD BE ELEVATED TO A RECALL BEFORE MORE ACCIDENTS OCCUR.
I CURRENTLY OWN A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. I STARTED EXPERIENCING THE CAR STALLING AND SHUTTING OFF WHENEVER YOU COME TO A SUDDEN STOP. IT HAPPEN WITH MY DAUGHTER ON THE MAIN ROAD AND SHE PANIC. AS TIME WHEN ON THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE. I BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC AND THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A BAD TORQUE CONVERTER. HE ADVISED IT WILL GET WORSE AS TIME GO ON. I WENT ON A FEW SUBARU THREADS ONLINE AND SAW THAT SEVERAL PEOPLE WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING. A NEW TORQUE CONVERTER WAS ORDER FROM SUBARU WHICH HAD A DIFFERENT PART NUMBER FROM THE ORIGINAL. SUBARU ADVISED THAT UPGRADES WERE MADE DUE TO PREVIOUS FAILURE ISSUES WITH TORQUE CONVERTER. TOTAL COST OF PARTS AND LABOR WAS $1238.78 AND WAS DONE ON 06/20/2017. FEW WEEKS AFTER WORK WAS DONE I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM SUBARU REGARDING EXTENDED WARRANTY ON TRANSMISSION WORK AND REIMBURSEMENT IF JOB ALREADY DONE. I SUBMITTED MY CLAIM AND WAS DENIED BECAUSE MY CAR HAS A PREVIOUS SALVAGE HISTORY. I FULLY UNDERSTAND THAT A SALVAGE HISTORY VOIDS THE WARRANTY BUT I FEEL THE TORQUE CONVERTER PROBLEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE THROUGH A SAFETY RECALL. A FAILURE OF A PART THAT CAN CAUSE A CAR TO STALL SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE. NEW UPGRADED TORQUE CONVERTER BY THE MANUFACTURER PROVES THEIR ACKNOWLEDGMENT THAT THE PREVIOUS PART HAS A FAULT. I AM NOT DISPUTING THEIR WARRANTY POLICY BUT DISPUTING THAT TORQUE CONVERTER FAILURE POSES A SAFETY ISSUE AND I AM REQUESTING A REIMBURSEMENT OF MONEY SPENT IN WHICH SUBARU HAS DENIED. SO MANY OTHER OWNERS SALVAGE HISTORY OR NOT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE.
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH WAY SPEEDS ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS BEGAN TO FLASH ON THE DASH BOARD. POWER LOSS OCCURED. PULLED OVER AND CHECKED VEHICLE, WAITED 10 MINUTES, RESTARTED VEHICLE AND CONTINUED AT REDUCED SPEED. VEHICLE CONTINUED TO FLASH LIGHTS AND LOSE POWER WITH NO WARNING BUT PARTICULARLY ON HILLS. SUBARU DELERSHIP IN RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA ADVISED US TO CONTINUE HOME TO SASKATOON. TOTAL FAILURE ON CVT WITH REPLACEMENT COST ESTIMATED AT $6000+ TAX AND LABOR. WONDERING IF THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF MANY SUCH EXPERIENCES AS OUR YEAR IS ONE OF THE EARLIEST MODELS WITH THIS SEALED CVT. NO WAY TO CHECK ANY PARTS OR SERVICE IT AS THE UNIT IS SEALED.
SOFTWARE UPDATE REQUIRED THAT IS NOT COVER BY RECALL. IF NOT UPDATED, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL, AND CRUSE LIGHT BLINK.
I REPLACED THE ORIGINAL TIRES IN SEPTEMBER 2013 WITH YOKOHAMA YK580S (225/60 R17). THE MILEAGE AT THE TIME OF REPLACEMENT WAS 49,577. THIS WEEK THE VEHICLE DEVELOPED A STRONG VIBRATION WHILE IN MOTION WHICH WAS CAUSED BY A BULGE OVER APPROXIMATELY 15 OF THE TREAD SURFACE OF THE TIRE POSITIONED ON THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. THE TIRE AIR PRESSURE HAS REMAINED CONSTANT DURING THIS STRUCTURAL DEGRADATION. THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THIS OCCURRENCE WAS 90,233. THE TREAD REMAINING ON THE IMPACTED TIRE IS APPROXIMATELY 3/16", AND THE DOT MANUFACTURE CODE IS 83C1512.
I BOUGHT THIS VECHICLE NEW IN 2010. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE HAD TO CHANGE THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS 4 TIMES ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND 5 TIMES ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT TAKES ALMOST 1 1/2 HOURS TO CHANGE THE BULB. YOU MUST REMOVE THE WHEEL, THE WHEEL WELL, THEN THE WATER PROOF COVER, THE SMALL RETAINING BRACKET AND THEN DISCONNECT THE BULB ALL THROUGH AN OPENING ONLY A CHILD HAND COULD FIT THROUGH EASILY. I HAVE NEVER HAD BOTH LIGHTS GO OUT AT THE SAME TIME, HOWEVER, ON A DARK MOUNTAIN ROAD THIS COULD BE LIFE THREATENING. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS ONLY 3 MONTHS AFTER ACQUIRING THE VEHICLE AND THE LAST TIME WAS 2 WEEKS AGO.
THE VEHICLE WAS IN NEUTRAL, ENGINE RUNNING WITH PARKING BRAKE SET (ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE IN THE 2010), THE MECHANIC GOT OUT OF THE CAR ON THE LEVEL CRUSHED GRAVEL PARKING LOT IN THE MIDDLE OF A BEAUTIFUL SUNNY AFTERNOON AND ALLOWED MYSELF TO GET IN THE DRIVERS SEAT. I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO DISENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE WITHOUT IT FLASHING NON STOP UNLESS I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT, THEN DISENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE. ON THIS SPECIFIC DAY, I GOT INTO MY VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO DISENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE IT STILL WAS SET WITH LIGHT ON. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE, RESTARTED IT AND DISENGAGED THE PARKING BRAKE AND IT IMMEDIATELY STARTED FLASHING. THE BRAKE WAS DISENGAGED; HOWEVER, THE LIGHT REMAINED ON. RETURNED IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE STATED THAT HE WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT WORKING AT ALL NOR WOULD IT WOULD WORK. YOU COULD HEAR THE LITTLE MOTOR RUNNING BUT NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE UP TO A SUBARU DEALERSHIP IN HOPES THAT THEY WOULD STAND BEHIND A POORLY DESIGNED PIECE OF EQUIPMENT ON THEIR PRODUCT WHICH AS A CONSUMER SHOULD HAVE LASTED MORE THAN 7 YEARS. I WAS TOLD THE PARKING BRAKE MODULE PART NEEDS TO BE ORDERED FOR $800 PLUS TAX. THIS IS VERY DISCOURAGING GIVEN TH RIDICULOUS COST OF SOMETHING YOUR VEHICLE IS REQUIRED TO HAVE FOR STATE INSPECTION. IT SEEMS OBVIOUS THAT THIS ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT A GOOD PRODUCT AS THEY ONLY PLACED THEM ON 2010-2012. I FEEL THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD STAND BEHIND.
VEHICLE STARTED ACTING AS THOUGH IT WAS GOING TO STALL AT STOP SIGNS AND RED LIGHTS. ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS THEN BECAME LIT UP. TOOK TO MY PLACE OF DEALERSHIP AND UPON CHECKING TRANSMISSION FLUID, THEY DESCRIBED IT AS SMELLING VERY FOUL AND WAS TOLD I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. CAR IS A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK WITH 120,000 MILES. THE CHEAPEST I COULD FIND FOR NEW TRANSMISSION WAS 6000.00. THOUGHT IT WAS A JOKE AT FIRST, BUT WAS TOLD THE FIRST CALL THEY MADE IT WAS 7000.00. THE TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST CALLED THE CVT SUBARU TRANSMISSION "THE THROW AWAY TRANSMISSION' AS NO ONE EVER REPLACES THEM AT THAT COST. I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED CHEVY VEHICLES UNTIL I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE OUTBACK. NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS VEHICLE.NO MORE SUBARUS FOR ME!!!
CAR FEELS LIKE IT'S GOING TO STALL OUT AT A STOP. THIS BEEN OCCURRING NOW FOR A YEAR. THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE. WHEN TO SUBARU, AND, BECAUSE IT DIDN'T HAPPEN WHEN THEY WERE DRIVING THE CAR, THE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING. PADDLE SHIFTERS ON STEERING WHEEL ARE NOT WORKING. WHEN DOWNSHIFT IS APPLIED WITH PADDLE, NOTHING HAPPENS OR VEHICLE UPSHIFTS (VEHICLE IN MOTION.) SUBARU TECH SERVICE BULLETIN 16-90-13R - AFFECTS 2010 - 2012 CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION EQUIPPED OUTBACK AND LEGACY MODELS CAR EXHIBITS SYMPTOMS LISTED IN ABOVE TSB. CAR STALLS / SEVERELY HESITATES WHEN TAKING OFF FROM REST DUE TO ISSUE WITH POORLY DESIGNED THRUST WASHER IN TORQUE CONVERTER. DISCOVERED ISSUE AS DESCRIBED AFTER PURCHASE FROM USED DEALERSHIP. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, CAR HAD HAD TRANSMISSION FLUSHED 2X ACCORDING TO CARFAX AT MFG DEALERSHIP BY PREVIOUS OWNER, ISSUE UNRESOLVED. CONTACTED SUBARU OF AMERICA (SOA) UPON DISCOVERING ISSUE. SUBARU ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM AS A KNOW ISSUE BUT ASSERTED THAT THEY WOULD NOT FINANCIALLY COVER WHAT SEEMS TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN SHOULD BE ESCALATED TO A SAFETY RECALL AND SUBARU OF AMERICA FORCED TO MAKE REPAIRS TO AFFECTED VEHICLES. ATTACHED ARE COPY OF TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN AND CARFAX HISTORY REPORT FOR VEHICLE IN QUESTION.
TOOK 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK IN FOR OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION AND WAS TOLD LEFT BRAKE LIGHT WAS OUT AND LEFT FRONT MARKER LIGHT BULB WAS OUT. THIS IS THE ?? TIME LIGHTS HAVE GONE OUT WITH THIS VEHICLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BE REPAIRED AT THE DEALER. THE SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000. UPDATED 04/05/17 LJ *CN
TAKATA RECALL. ORIGINALLY NOTIFIED OF RECALL ON JUNE 10, 2016. I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM SUBARU AS OF TODAY, JANUARY 19, 2017. I HAVE NOT ALLOWED ANYONE TO RIDE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SINCE NOTIFICATION. PASSENGERS ARE TIRED OF WAITING AND DEMAND ACTION.
