CENTER CONSOLE COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN. ONGOING- STILL AS OF 6/15/15 REPEATED SERVICING AND CONTACTS WITH DEALER AND SUBARU NATIONAL HAVE FAILED TO RESOLVE PROBLEM CONCERNED WHETHER OTHER PROBLEMS WILL OCCUR
2010 OUTBACK 3.6 R LIMITED STEERING VIBRATION. *TR
CAR DIES WHILE DRIVING AT A STEADY PACE, THEN SLOWING DOWN, ENGAGING THE CLUTCH AND LETTING THE CAR IDLE AT A LIGHT. HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN 2 WEEKS. ONCE WAS WHILE DOWNSHIFTING TO 2ND GEAR TO COMPLETE A LEFT TURN. HAD ENOUGH SPEED TO COMPLETE THE TURN, BUT DID NOT HAVE STEERING OR BRAKING ASSIST. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH AND SLOWING DOWN A VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE LEFT REAR SIDE CAUSING THE LEFT REAR TIRE TO LOSE CONTACT WITH THE ROAD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE, AND THEN SHE CONTINUED TO DRIVE TO HER DESTINATION PER THE POLICE OFFICER'S INSTRUCTIONS. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER EXPERIENCED WHIPLASH AND THE PASSENGER HAD A NECK INJURY. THE VEHICLE WAS AT A COLLISION CENTER WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 5,000.
IT IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR. WHEN YOU RE DRIVING IN 3RD GEAR AND SHIFT DOWN TO 2ND TO MAKE A ROLLING RIGHT OR LEFT TURN THE CAR STALLS OUT. THE ONLY WAY YOU KNOW IT HAS SHUT ITSELF OFF IS THAT YOU HAVE NO POWER AND ALL THE IDIOT LIGHTS COME ON. IT ALSO HAPPENED WHEN I SHIFTED INTO 1ST COMING UP TO A STOP SIGN. THIS PROBLEM DIDN'T START UNTIL THE CAR WAS ABOUT 3 MONTHS OLD THEN IT STARTED TO DO IT WITHIN A MILE TO 2 MILES OF DRIVING AFTER IT HAD BEEN SITTING OVERNIGHT OR ALL DAY WHILE I WORKED. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AFTER ABOUT 4 OR 5 TIMES OF IT HAPPENING. THEY CHECKED IT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THEY CONTACTED THEIR CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS WHO SENT SOMEONE OUT TO LOOK AT IT AND PERFORMED A BUNCH OF TEST ON IT. THEY THEN FOUND OTHER CARS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND STARTED WORKING ON A FIX FOR THE CAR. THEY HAVE OFFERED TO SWAP CARS WITH ME WHICH WE ARE IN THE PROCESSES OF DOING. THEY HAVE ALSO INFORMED ME THEY NOW FEEL THEY HAVE A FIX FOR THIS CAR, BUT I AM LEARY TO TRY IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN DOWNSHIFTING FROM SECOND TO THIRD GEAR, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL AND LOSE ALL POWER. THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WOULD BECOME INOPERABLE WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED.THE VECHILE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFOMRED, DURING WHICH THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO FALL TO RPMS OF 300 UNTIL IT WOULD STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT IN THE DEALER'S POSSESSION FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 900.
5 MONTHS AFTER THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW I STARTED USING THE AIR CONDITIONER. WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK AS I WAS SLOWING MAKE A RIGHT TURN INTO A PARKING LOT FROM THE STREET I ENGAGED THE CLUTCH TO SHIFT FROM 3RD GEAR TO SECOND AND THE CAR DIED AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES. I DIDN'T USE THE AIR CONDITIONER ALL THE TIME. TWO TIMES THE FOLLOWING WEEK THE SAME THING OCCURRED AGAIN, BOTH TIMES SLOWING DOWN AND ENGAGING THE CLUTCH AND DOWN SHIFTING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT ON 6/2/10 AND THEY TESTED ALL THE SENSORS AND CHECKED IT ON THEIR COMPUTER AND THEY FOUND NO PROBLEMS AND ASKED THAT I KEEP A LOG OF EACH TIME IT HAPPENS AND IF I NOTICE ANY PATTERNS. I NOTICED THAT THE MAJORITY OF TIMES AS I WOULD ENGAGE THE CLUTCH TO DOWN SHIFT THE TACK WOULD DROP AND THE CAR WOULD SHUTTER AND THE TACK CAME BACK UP. THE TIMES WHEN THE TACK DROPPED AND THEN DIED IT DID NOT SHUTTER. THE PROBLEM ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ON. I THEN HAD A NEAR COLLISION SHIFTING FROM 4TH TO 3RD IN A BUSY T-INTERSECTION AND CALLED SERVICE THE NEXT MORNING, 6/10/10 AND SCHEDULED TO TAKE THE CAR IN ON 6/14/10 AND DID NOT USE THE AIR CONDITIONER AT ALL. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM AND HAD A SUBARU ENGINEER LOOK AT IT. THEY ERASED THE CAR'S MEMORY AND WILL HAVE A PROGRAM WRITTEN TO HOPEFULLY FIX THE PROBLEM. SINCE THE PROGRAM WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR A LONG TIME THEY ARE GIVING ME THE CAR BACK TO DRIVE AND BELIEVE THAT SINCE THEY ERASED THE CAR'S MEMORY THAT MAY FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY BELIEVE IT MAY BE AN ELECTRICAL OR COMPUTER PROBLEM. *TR
LOW WEIGHT ADULT PASSENGERS (85 - 100 LBS) WILL NOT CAUSE THE PASSENGER AIRBAG TO ENGAGE. WARNING LIGHT DISPLAYS SHOWING AIRBAG IS DISABLED WHILE MY WIFE IS RIDING WITH ME. *TR
WE RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK FOR IT'S SAFETY RATING. MY WIFE HAS BEEN IN TWO BAD ACCIDENTS AND NEEDED A CAR SHE FEELS SAFE IN. WE PURCHASED THIS CAR IN MARCH AND RECENTLY NOTICED THAT WHEN I AM DRIVING AND SHE IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THAT THE AIRBAG INDICATOR GOES ON AND OFF. SHE WEIGHS 125 POUNDS AND IS 5'3" TALL. WE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND ARE GETTING THE RUN AROUND. THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THEY TELL US THE SEAT BELT WORKS FINE AND NOT TO WORRY. I DIDN'T BUY THIS CAR FOR A SEAT BELT. I WANTED THE BEST SAFETY EQUIPMENT AND IF IT DOESN'T WORK, I DO NOT WANT THIS CAR. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED BEFORE A PASSENGER IS KILLED IN A WRECK. I WOULD RATHER THE AIRBAG IS ON ALL THE TIME. ON THE TOYOTA MY WIFE JUST WRECKED THERE WAS AN ON AND OFF SWITCH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE WHEN THE SEAT WAS OCCUPIED. THE DEALER MADE REPAIRS TO THE AIR BAG COMPONENT AND THE BOTTOM OF THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,700 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,500.
RE: SUBARU OUTBACK 2010. PASSENGER FRONT AIRBAG. MY WIFE IS 5'5' AND 108LB. THE PASSENGER FRONT AIRBAG IS "DEACTIVATED" OR "ACTIVATED" BASED ON THE WEIGHT OF THE FRONT PASSENGER. WHEN MY WIFE IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, APPROXIMATELY 75% OF THE TIME, THE DASH INDICATES THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS OFF, AND THIS IS IRREGARDLESS OF HER SITTING POSITION. I CALLED SUBARU DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS WORKING PROPERLY AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THEN I CALLED SUBARU AMERICA AND THE REPRESENTATIVE SAID THAT IS LIKELY WORKING PROPERLY AND SHE IS NEAR THE CUT-OFF IN WEIGHT TO SET OFF THE AIRBAG. THE RECOMMEND I BRING IT TO THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP TO INSPECT THAT IT IS INFACT WORKING PROPERLY. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THE AIRBAG SHOULD BE DEPLOYED FOR ANY PERSON OVER 100LB AND 5'0'. SUBARU WOULD NOT RELEASE THE INFORMATION TO WHAT THEY SET THE AIRBAG WEIGHT LIMIT FOR ACTIVATION. THEY SAID THAT IF THE INSPECTION SHOWS THE SYSTEM IS WORKING PROPERLY THAT NOTHING FURTHER CAN BE DONE. 1) WHAT IS THE WEIGHT LIMIT RECOMMENDED FOR PASSENGER AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT? 2) IS SUBARU COMPLAINT WITH THIS SAFETY STANDARD? *TR
2010 SUBARU OUTBACK STEERING WHEEL SHAKING WHILE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS, NOT TIRES. SUBARU HAS INSTALLED A TSB AND IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. SUBARUOUTBACK.ORG HAS MANY THOUSANDS OF POSTS ON THIS ISSUE. *TR
2010 SUBARU OUTBACK 3.6R LIMITED, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. UPON LEAVING FREEWAY FROM 50-60 MPH AND DECELERATING ON THE OFF RAMP TO APPROXIMATELY 5-15 MPH, THERE IS A DEFINITIVE SLAM AS THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS TO 2ND OR 1ST GEAR. ALSO, WHEN DECELERATING FROM 30-60 MPH AND THEN APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR THERE IS A 1-2 SECOND DELAY BEFORE THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE THEN TENDS TO BUCK, OR ACCELERATE FASTER THAN INTENDED FROM THE ACCELERATOR BEING DEPRESSED FURTHER DUE TO NO INITIAL ACCELERATION. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THE VEHICLE "OPERATES AS DESIGNED", BUT RESET THE TRANSMISSION "MEMORY" ANYWAY SO IT WOULD "LEARN" HOW I DRIVE. THIS DID NOT IMPROVE PERFORMANCE. THIS ISSUE OCCURS EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AT THE ABOVE STATED SPEEDS. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK FROM IRA SUBARU IN DANVERS, MA IN JANUARY, 2010. SEVERAL WEEKS AGO, I DISCOVERED THE FRAME AROUND THE ENGINE WAS RUSTED. THIS CAR IS BRAND NEW. I RECENTLY BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF IRA SUBARU. THEY SAID IT'S FINE, AND IT JUST NEEDS TO BE TREATED WITH A SPECIAL SPRAY, AND THAT'S ALL THEY DID. IS THIS SAFE? WHY WAS MY 2010 SUBARU ALREADY RUSTING? THE CARS THAT WCVB TV IN BOSTON HIGHLIGHTED LAST NIGHT ALL SEEMED TO BE JAPANESE. PLEASE ADVISE. MY CAR HAS JUST 3,800 MILES ON IT. THANK YOU. *TR
STEERING IS VERY STIFF THEN LOOSENS AS IF YOU'VE HIT A PATCH OF ICE EVEN THOUGH THE ROAD IS DRY. *TR
MY 2010 OUTBACK HAS A STEERING WHEEL SHAKE THAT OCCURS AT HIGHWAY (65+) SPEEDS. THE WHEEL OSCILLATES FROM LEFT TO RIGHT AT HIGH FREQUENCY, MOVING ABOUT 1/8" EACH WAY. THERE HAVE BEEN 4 ATTEMPTS AT FIXING THE PROBLEM, BUT SUBARU HAS NOT RESOLVED THE ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT FAILED TO TURN ON. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30. UPDATED 5/5/15*CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD COME ON SPORADICALLY OR FAIL COMPLETELY WHEN SHE IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, DUE TO HER HEIGHT AND WEIGHT. OUR 2010 3.6R OUTBACK ARRIVED IN APR. THE FIRST TIME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN ON THE HIGHWAY, I NOTICED A PROMINENT HIGH FREQUENCY VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THERE IS ALSO UNUSUAL FEEDBACK IN THE STEERING WHEEL AT SLOWER SPEEDS THAT FEELS UNLIKE ANYTHING RELATED TO ROAD NOISE. I RESEARCHED THE "PROBLEM" ON THE INTERNET AND SEEN THAT THERE WERE MANY FORUMS IDENTIFYING THE SAME PROBLEM FOR 2010 OUTBACKS. I INFORMED OUR LOCAL SUBARU SERVICE DEPT. ABOUT THE VIBRATION AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT. A SUBARU SERVICE TECHNICIAN CONFIRMED THE VIBRATION DURING A TEST DRIVE AND RECOMMENDED A SPIN BALANCE. AFTER READING ALL THE COMPLAINTS AND PROPOSED "FIXES" ON THE INTERNET, I TOLD THEM THAT I WAS NOT CONFIDENT THAT A SPIN BALANCE WAS GOING TO BE SUCCESSFUL. I ASKED THE SERVICE DEPT. MANAGER IF THEY HAD BEEN INFORMED/AWARE OF THE ONGOING PROBLEMS AND SHE DENIED HAVING ANY PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE OF STEERING VIBRATION ISSUES WITH ANY OUTBACKS. THE SPIN BALANCE ADDED A MULTITUDE OF STICK-ON WEIGHTS TO ALL FOUR WHEELS (SOME EXCEED 9 IN. IN LENGTH). THE INVOICE SAID THAT A FOLLOW-UP TEST DRIVE BY A TECHNICIAN PRODUCED NORMAL STEERING AS DESIGNED. A TEST DRIVE HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP ON THE HIGHWAY AGAIN PRODUCED THE SAME HIGH FREQUENCY VIBRATION. I INFORMED THE SERVICE DEPT. IMMEDIATELY AND THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN LEFT THERE THIS MORNING. I PRODUCED SEVERAL PAGES OF COMPLAINTS FOUND ON THE INTERNET IDENTIFYING THIS ISSUE. THEY MADE COPIES OF THEM AND TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE GOING TO CONTACT SOA FACTORY ENGINEERS. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS. THE VIBRATION IS PROMINENT ENOUGH TO CAUSE FATIGUE AND NUMBNESS IN THE HANDS ON EXTENDED DRIVES. THERE IS ALSO A CONCERN OF WHAT MAY FAIL AND CAUSE A LOSS OF STEERING OR VEHICLE CONTROL. THE FAULTY COMPONENT NEEDS TO BE IDENTIFIED AND THE ISSUE FIXED BY SOA IMMEDIATELY. SOA HAS TRIED A NUMBER OF FIXES WITHOUT SUCCESS (SPIN-BALANCE, FORCED BALANCE, ALIGNMENT, BACKLASH SPRING, WHEEL BEARING, STEERING PUMP, REPLACE OUT-OF-ROUND TIRES). *TR
MY HUSBAND HAS TRIED CONTACTING BOTH SUBARU NORTH AMERICAN CORPORATE OFFICE AND THE EASTERN REGIONAL OFFICE REGARDING THE SEVERAL RECALLS HE HAS RECEIVED ON HIS 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. HE WENT TO THE TOP BECAUSE THE PEOPLE AT THE DEALERSHIP ARE - WELL - STUPID; AND HE HIS CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR ABILITY TO "FIX" THE CAR PROPERLY. HE ASKED THE DEALER ABOUT TSB'S AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NONE; WHEN IN DEED THERE ARE FOUR (4). THE PEOPLE HE HAS CONTACTED ARE AT THE VICE PRESIDENT LEVEL OF MANAGEMENT. HE HAS ALSO TRIED TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE IN THE PRESIDENT'S (THOMAS DOLL) OFFICE. EVERYONE REFERS HIM TO AN 800 CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER. THE PEOPLE AT THIS NUMBER KNOW NOTHING ABOUT CARS; ALL THEY DO IS READ OFF WHAT IS EVER WRITTEN ON THEIR COMPUTER SCREEN. OF COURSE, SUBARU HAS NO PLANT MANUFACTURING PROBLEMS; THEIR PROBLEMS ARE ALL CAUSED BY THE COMPANIES THEY GET THEIR COMPONENTS FROM. MY HUSBAND DOES NOT WANT TO BE "PUT-OFF"; HE WANTS SOMEONE FROM SUBARU'S UPPER MANAGEMENT TO GIVE HIM A CALL RIGHT AWAY. *TR
2010 SUBARU OUTBACK 2.5I PREMIUM, PURCHASED 3/23/10. WHEN MY WIFE, WHO WEIGHS 130 POUNDS, SITS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, MOST OF THE TIME THE AIRBAG LIGHT SAYS "OFF", ONLY OCCASIONALLY AND UNPREDICTABLY DOES IT SAY "ON". I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE SEVERAL TIMES. THE SENSOR WAS RECALIBRATED, AND THE SEAT BOTTOM WAS REPLACED. BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND SUBARU OF AMERICA SAY THE SYSTEM IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. I SAY I PAID FOR AN AIRBAG THAT WORKS AND I WANT AN AIRBAG THAT WORKS. *TR
WHEN TRYING TO SPEED UP FROM A ROLLING STOP/YIELD THE CAR HESITATED TO SHIFT AND WOULD NOT GO FORWARD. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRANSMISSION MADE A LOUD "CLUNK" AND QUICKLY SHOT FORWARD. THE PROBLEM AFFECTED MY ABILITY TO SAFELY MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. THIS HAS BEEN AN ON-GOING PROBLEM AND THE DEALER WILL NOT ADMIT THIS IS A DEFECT. *TR
STEERING WHEEL HAS CONSIDERABLE VIBRATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OVER 60MPH. DURING PROLONGED DRIVING MY HANDS BECOME STRESSED DUE TO THE VIBRATION AND IT INHIBITS THE ABILITY TO DRIVE THE CAR SAFELY. THE CAR HAS ONLY 1200 MILES ON IT. SUBMITTED COMPLAINT TO SUBARU AND BBB.
STARTING FROM 1,700 MILES, THIS CAR STARTED DEVELOPING THE VIBRATION ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS VIBRATION/SHIMMY IS MORE PRONOUNCED ON HIGHWAY (>70MPH) BUT NOTICEABLE IN OTHER SPEEDS. I HAVE OWNED A COUPLE OF VEHICLES AND THIS KIND OF SHIMMY/VIBRATION HAS NEVER HAPPENED ON ANY CARS THAT I OWNED/DROVE. I AM 100% SURE IT IS NOT NORMAL ROAD FEEL AND IT DIDN'T HAPPEN DURING THE FIRST 1,700 MILES. ALSO, THE CAR DOESN'T TRACK STRAIGHT AND DRIFTS ON HIGHWAY. TWO ALIGNMENTS, TIRE BALANCING AND ROTATION HAVE BEEN DONE BUT THE VIBRATION AND DRIFTING PERSIST. I DEFINITELY CONSIDER THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION AND DRIFTING A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE IT TOTALLY ISOLATED THE ROAD FEEL ON HIGHWAY. ALSO, I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO HAVE A CONFIDENT CONTROL ON THE CAR DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING. RECENTLY I CAME ACROSS THE FOLLOWING FORUM FOR SUBARU OUTBACK OWNERS AND FOUND THIS IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE FOR QUITE A FEW 2010 OUTBACKS. PLEASE REFER TO THE FOLLOWING THREAD. STEERING SHAKE & SHIMMY
PURCHASED BRAND-NEW SUBARU OUTBACK-3.6 LIMITED IN LATE MARCH 2010. AT TIME OF DELIVERY (PRIOR TO SIGNING PAPERS), I NOTIFIED THE DEALER OF STEERING VIBRATION. THE DEALER ASSURED ME THAT THIS WAS DUE TO THE NEED FOR THE TIRES TO BREAK-IN AND TO CALL SERVICE IF IT CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 3 MILES ON DELIVERY. THE STEERING VIBRATION CONTINUED AND I RETURNED TO SERVICE FOR A "POTENTIAL SOLUTION" TO THE PROBLEM. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM AND I WAS NOTIFIED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER AND SOA THAT IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO RESOLVE SINCE THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I SUBSEQUENTLY CHECKED TIRE PRESSURE ON ALL FOUR TIRES, GAVE THE CAR SOME TIME TO "BREAK IN", AND TESTED VARIOUS ROAD CONDITIONS AND SPEEDS TO DETERMINE IF THE PROBLEM IS MORE PRONOUNCED UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS. THE VIBRATION CAN BE FELT AT SPEEDS ABOVE 50MPH ON THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOORS, SEATS, AND IN THE STEERING WHEEL, WITH THE INTENSITY INCREASING WITH SPEED, REGARDLESS OF ROAD SMOOTHNESS. AFTER THE CAR DIDN'T SELF-CORRECT, I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 04/26/2010 TO DO AN INITIAL/ROUTINE CHECK OF THE CAR. THEY REBALANCED ALL FOUR TIRES AND SAID THAT SHOULD FIX IT, BUT ASKED THAT I ADVISE ANY FUTURE ISSUES. THE VIBRATION REMAINS, BUT AT SPEEDS ABOVE 60MPH (A MERE 10MPH INCREASE) FROM BOTH THE STEERING WHEEL AND TIRES, AND - AS BEFORE - IS INCREASINGLY NOTICEABLE AT HIGHER SPEEDS AND DURING RAIN/WET WEATHER. I HAVE 2 CARS, A 2002 CHEV. IMPALA AND A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. BOTH CARS HAVE AN AUTOMATIC ON HEADLIGHT FEATURE. THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH ON THE IMPALA IS ON THE DASHBOARD AND I HAVE NEVER TOUCHED IT IN THE 13 YEARS I HAVE THE CAR. IT WORKS PERFECTLY, WHEN THE LIGHT LEVEL IS LOW THE HEADLIGHTS COME ON. THE OUTBACK HAS THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH ON THE END OF THE TURN INDICATOR STALK. THE SWITCH HAS A NUMBER OF POSITIONS, THE FIRST 3 BEING HEADLIGHT AUTOMATIC ON, HEADLIGHT MANUAL ON AND PARKING LIGHTS ON. WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS ARE ON, EITHER ON THE AUTOMATIC ON OR HEADLIGHTS MANUAL ON POSITIONS AS WELL AS THE PARKING LIGHTS ON POSITION THERE IS AN INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD AS WELL AS THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS ARE ON. WITH THE INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS ON YOU CANNOT TELL WHICH OF THE 3 POSITIONS THE SWITCH IS AT, ALL INDICATORS ARE THE SAME. THE FIRST PROBLEM WAS EVENTUALLY TAKEN CARE OF BY SUBARU OF AMERICA AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF GOING TO DIFFERENT DEALERS TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. WE HAD A BAD TRANSMISSION WHICH FINALLY WAS RECOGNIZED AS THE PROBLEM AND IT NEEDED REPLACING BUT SUBARU OF AMERICA DECIDED IT WOULD BUY BACK THE 2009 SUBARU FORRESTER WHICH HAD THIS PROBLEM FROM THE DAY MY WIFE PURCHASED IT. WE WERE TOLD WE HAD TO BUY ANOTHER SUBARU BUT THIS WE THOUGHT WAS NO PROBLEM. MY WIFE CHOSE A 2010 OUTBACK AND WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS THE NIGHTMARE STARTED ALL OVER AGAIN. WE THOUGHT HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN'WHAT ARE THE ODDS OF TWO CARS FROM SUBARU HAVING TRANSMISSION ISSUES. THE FIRST TIME WAS ONE THING BUT A SECOND TIME? THE TRANSMISSION IS ELECTRONIC BUT IT DOES NOT PERFORM PROPERLY. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP A NUMBER OF TIMES HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS OPERATING NORMALLY. WE KNOW THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT SUPPOSED TO SLAM INTO FIRST GEAR WHEN THE CAR COMES TO A STOP AFTER BEING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE PROBLEM IS WAY PAST ANNOYING AND WE NEED TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS. MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN MORE THAN PATIENT BUT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. WE HAVE TEST DRIVEN OTHER MODELS OF THIS MAKE AND DO NOT EXPERIENCE THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE. MY WIFE DRIVES THE CAR MORE THAN ME SEEING AS IT IS HER CAR BUT SHE IS AT WITS END. WE ARE WAY PAST BEING PISSED OFF OR EXTREMELY ANGRY AND WANT SOMEONE FROM SUBARU OF AMERICA TO CHECK OUT THIS CAR. *TR
ENGINE ALMOST STALLS WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR (NOT AS OFTEN) ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH SUBARU TECHNICIANS AT TWO DEALERS AND BOTH ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS A NONE ISSUE WITH NO KNOWN FIX. THE FREQUENCY OF THE PROBLEM IS INCREASING ON MY CAR AND MAY BECOME DANGEROUS IF A SUDDEN ACCELERATION IS REQUIRED. *TR
AFTER DECELERATING TO APPROXIMATED 5-15 MPH AND THEN APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR THERE IS A 1-2 SECOND DELAY BEFORE THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO ACCELERATE. WHEN IT DOES IT TENDS TO BUCK OR ACCELERATE FASTER THAN INTENDED AS THE ACCELERATOR WAS DEPRESSED FURTHER AS THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION. DRIVING IN CITY TRAFFIC THAT HAS ALMOST RESULTED IN A ACCIDENT DOZENS OF TIMES. THERE HAVE BEEN TWO TSB'S ISSUED FOR THIS KNOWN PROBLEM ONE FOR THE ENGINE AND ONE FOR THE TRANSMISSION, NEITHER ONE OF WHICH HAS ADDRESSED THE ISSUE. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS WHO STATE THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THAT THERE IS NO KNOWN FIX. THIS ISSUE OCCURS EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AT THE ABOVE STATED SPEEDS. *TR
