BRAKE WARNING LIGHT FLASHES ABOUT EVERY SECOND OR THIRD TIME YOU START CAR. ST AUSTIN FLASHING
WHEN BRAKING TO COME TO A STOP AT A LIGHT ON A SECONDARY ROAD OR STOP SIGN ON MY BACK STREET IN A STRAIGHT LINE THE ENGINE STALLS, THIS HAS EVEN HAPPENED WHEN I HAD TO BRAKE TO STOP FOR BACKED UP TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST FOUR TIMES IN THE PAST AND AGAIN THIS MORNING. I TOLD MY DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES AFTER THE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE I NOTICED IDLE WOULD DROP OUT AND COME BACK WHILE AT A STOP, BUT I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOT AN ISSUE. I NOW READ THIS IS NOT TRUE AND HAS BEEN AN ON GOING ISSUE WITH THIS MANUFACTURER FOR SOME TIME AND IS A WIDE SPREAD ISSUE WITH THE CVT. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY OFFERED AND NOW EXPIRED BY SUBARU NEVER MENTIONED THE POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUE OF STALLING DUE TO A FAULTY CVT, BUT ACTUALLY SEEMED TO SAY THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY ONLY APPLIED TO SHIFTING ISSUES SO I IGNORED IT AS THE CAR SHIFTED FINE BOTH AUTOMATICALLY AND MANUALLY AS DESIGNED. I FEEL VERY MISLED AND LET DOWN BY SUBARU WHO I ALWAYS THOUGHT WOULD PUT THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS FIRST, I GUESS NOT.
2012 SUBARU OUTBACK CVT ISSUE CAR WILL SHUDDER WHILE BRAKING FROM HIGHWAY SPEEDS (40 MPH+) DOWN TO 10-20 MPH. CAR LURCHES, SIMILAR TO A MANUAL CAR DUMPING THE CLUTCH. IN THE CASE OF A HARD STOP THIS HAS CAUSED THE ENGINE TO STALL TWICE, AND COME CLOSE TO STALLING MANY MORE TIMES. CAR STARTS UP AND RUNS FINE ONCE PLACED IN NEUTRAL OR PARK. I HAVE TO BE EXTREMELY CONSCIOUS OF HOW QUICKLY I BRAKE, AS YOU CAN FEEL WHEN THE TCC DISENGAGES. IF IT DOES NOT DISENGAGE BEFORE YOU STOP, THE CAR STALLS. THIS LEADS TO POSSIBLE UNSAFE CONDITIONS, NOT KNOWING IF YOUR CAR IS GOING TO STALL OR NOT AT A CRITICAL MOMENT (TURNING LEFT IN A BUSY INTERSECTION). THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY SUBARU'S EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT THEY OFFERED TO COVER THIS KNOWN PROBLEM (SEEMINGLY INSTEAD OF A FULL RECALL), BUT BY THE TIME MY CAR EXHIBITED THESE SYMPTOMS IT WAS WELL PAST THE ARBITRARY 100K MILE MARK AND PAST THE JULY 31ST DEADLINE (MY CAR IS AT 116K MILES, AND THIS STARTED OCCURING IN THE PAST TWO MONTHS). I DRIVE A LARGE AMOUNT OF HIGHWAY MILES, AND RECENTLY I DO NOT FEEL SAFE COMING TO A HARD STOP IF NECESSARY. I DO NOT SEE HOW A KNOWN ISSUE THAT CAN CAUSE THE CAR TO STALL IN TRAFFIC IS NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NECESSITATES A RECALL.
IN AUGUST 2018 THE CAR BEGAN STALLING RANDOMLY WHEN COMING TO A STOP. WHEN WE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE CVT PROBLEM THAT PROMPTED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR OUR 200,000 MILE CAR HAD EXPIRED 7/31. THE FIX IS ALMOST $5,000 AND SUBARU WILL NOT APPLY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. EVEN THROUGH THEY ADMIT IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WOULD HAVE APPLIED TWO WEEKS EARLIER (HAD THE PROBLEM STARTED THEN), THEY HAVE REFUSED TO HELP.
WHILE SLOWING DOWN THE VEHICLE HAS PULLED (FEELING LIKE IT IS NOT SHIFTING DOWN , FOR YEARS, THOUGHT IT WAS THE NATURE OF THE BEAST) SO HAD TO BRAKE HARDER. SINCE THE SUMMER OF 2018 THE CAR PULLS AND SOMETIMES STALLS OR ALMOST STALLS WHEN DECELERATING FAST. THIS HAPPENS ON HIGHWAY AND ALSO CITY (BETWEEN STREETLIGHTS). I LOOKED ONLINE AND SEE THAT SUBARU HAS HAD A BULLETIN SINCE 2014 KNOWING ABOUT A THRUST WASHER WEAR PROBLEM INSIDE THE TORQUE CONVERTER . 1-27-2019 I TOOK THE OUTBACK IN FOR SERVICE AND THE DIAGNOSIS WAS TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACEMENT. ESTIMATED COST FOR REPAIRS $1715.00. MY WIFE AND I NOT ONLY HAD THE STANDARD SUBARU WARRANTY BUT PAID EXTRA FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY,. ALL SERVICE WAS DONE AT THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP ( STANLEY SUBARU ) AND THE LAST SERVICE BEFORE WARRANTY EXPIRED IN 2017 I SPECIFICALLY ASKED FOR THE CAR TO BE GONE THOUGH WITH A FINE TOOTH COMB (AT THAT TIME WE WAS CONCERNED WITH NOISY WHEEL BEARINGS. NO MENTION OF THE BULLETIN ON THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS MENTIONED. *TR
ENGINE STALLS WHILE PRESSING BREAK PEDAL RAPIDLY. WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT TORQUE CONVERTER IS A PROBLEM AND EXTENDED WARRANTY IS AVAILABLE TO FIX THIS ISSUE. MY CAR HAS SALVAGE TITLE RELATED TO MINOR FLOODING AND IS NOT COVERED BY THIS WARRANTY. MANUFACTURER FAULTY DESIGN SHOULD RESULT I RECALL SO ALL THE CARS ARE COVERED( LIKE FAULTY AIR BAGS). THYIS IS POTENTIALLY MORE DANGER PROBLEM THEN FAULTY AIR BAGS AND I GUESS SUBARU IS WAITING FOR CAUSALITIES AS RESULT OF THIS NEGLIGIBLE APPROACH.
I BOUGHT MY CAR USED AT THE END OF 2015. IN 2017 MY SUBARU OUTBACK BEGAN MAKE A WHISTLING SOUND WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND ALSO BEGAN TO SHAKE AT A LOW IDLE BEFORE STOPPING THE CAR. I TOOK IT TO A SUBARU DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT INSPECTED BUT THEY JUST DETERMINED IT WAS THE BRAKES AND CHANGED THEM OUT. IN 2018 MY SUBARU BEGAN TO SHAKE EVEN MORE VIOLENTLY, ALMOST AS IF ANOTHER VEHICLE BEHIND ME HAD BUMPED INTO ME, AND THEN WOULD STALL OUT. THIS APPEARED MORE SO ON HILLS AT FIRST AND THEN STARTED HAPPENING ON FLAT SURFACE ROADS. I WENT BACK TO MY SUBARU DEALERSHIP WHO AGAIN RAN MY VIN AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT DETERMINED "COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE". $900.00+ LATER I WENT ON MY WAY ONLY TO HAVE IT CONTINUOUSLY HAPPEN MORE AND MORE. I WAS AT 90,490 MILES AT THE TIME I GOT MY 90K MILE SERVICING DONE. I HAD ASKED THE SERVICING DEPARTMENT IF THERE WAS ANYTHING REPORTED ON MY VEHICLE THAT I NEEDED TO BE AWARE OF. THEY STATED THAT NOTHING POPPED UP IN THEIR SYSTEM. I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL OR SAFETY WARNING LETTING ME KNOW THAT THERE IS A HUGE CONCERN FOR CVT TO THE POINT OF EXTENDING THE COVERAGE AUTOMATICALLY. I AM NOT A MECHANIC. I DONT KNOW WHAT CODES TO LOOK FOR OR WHAT LINGO TO GIVE THEM OTHER THAN MY EXACT PROBLEM AND TRUST THAT THEY DID THE RESEARCH AND PERFORMED THE CORRECT PROTOCOL. I JUST DID THE RESEARCH AND HAD THEY READ THE BULLETIN FOR 16-90-13R THEY WOULD HAVE SEEN FOR MY SPECIFIC MAKE MODEL AND YEAR OF CAR THAT IT STATES "CUSTOMER MAY EXPERIENCE SENSATION LIKE COMING TO A STOP IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION EQUIPPED VEHICLE AND FAILING TO DEPRESS THE CLUTCH". IN OTHER WORDS, STALLING. I WOULD ALSO SAY 16-104-17 APPLIES AS WELL BUT THE YEAR DOES NOT ADD UP WITH MY VEHICLE. I HAVE A SPECIAL NEEDS SON WHO NEEDS THERAPY DAILY AND THIS IS MY DAILY DRIVER. I'D LIKE THAT TO BE HIGHLIGHTED IN THE EVENT OF OUR DEATH DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO HAVE THIS REMEDIED.
It was looked at by a subaru dealer but claims fault isnt on subaru. The paint is chipping around the trunk and other areas and has been getting progressively worse over the last several years. Paint ahould not chip at all unless its damaged and due to this now rust is starting to form i continually have to touch up new spots and try to slow the spread of paint flaking off for no reason at all. My 06 impreza never had this issue ir my 2012 town and country. The paint used is subpar needs to be repainted. ,
5 DAYS AFTER 120K MILE DEALER SERVICE (ALL WORK IS DONE BY SUBARU DEALER WHERE WE PURCHASED) MORE DASH LIGHTS THAN WHAT SULLY SULLENBEGER HAD TO CONTENT WITH. OCCURRED WHILE SITTING IN TRAFFIC IN 90 DEGREE HEAT (WITH A 6 MONTH OLD IN THE CAR). DROVE IT 35 MILES TO GET IT TO THE DEALER. $2200 ESTIMATE TO REPLACE 2 HEAD GASKETS. DEALER IS TAKING $350 OFF. WORTH TALKING TO SUBARU CORP ABOUT ADDED COMPENSATION FOR A KNOW DEFECT? I SEE THE SAME ISSUE REPORTED ON LINE SHORTLY AFTER THE 100K OR 120K MILE DEALER CHECK UP.
VEHICLE STALLS UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN STOPPING. LOCAL MECHANIC STATES IT IS A TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND HAS BEEN REPORTED BY MANY OWNERS OF THIS MODEL. I AM JUST OUTSIDE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND OVER 110,000 MILES. IT STARTED EARLIER WHEN MY WARRANTY WOULD HAVE COVERED IT BUT SUBARU DID NOT MAKE US AWARE OF THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM AND WE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS CAUSING THIS. IT HAS CAUSED SOME CLOSE CALLS WHEN WE SUDDENLY HAVE TO STOP IN TRAFFIC. HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND SEVERAL TIMES. SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE ABOUT THE MIDDLE OF JUNE AND HAS HAPPENED ALMOST EVERY TIME WE USE THE CAR LATELY. WE ARE ELDERLY AND CAN NOT AFFORD THE EXPENSIVE REPAIR JOB.
MY WELL-MAINTAINED SUBARU OUTBACK LIMITED WITH 102,773 MILES OVERHEATED AND BLEW A HEAD GASKET OUT OF THE BLUE. JUST HAD THE MAJOR 100K MILE PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE DONE TOO. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY JUST EXPIRED AT 100K AND THE DEALER SAYS IT WILL BE OVER $3K TO REPAIR. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH SUBARUS THAT THEY HAVE FAULTY HEAD GASKETS THAT FAIL BETWEEN 80-120K MILES. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH SUBARU QUALITY WITH SUCH A MAJOR ISSUE AT HALF LIFE OF MY OTHERWISE RELIABLE VEHICLE!
AT TIMES, I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. IT KIND OF SHUDDERS FIRST AND THEN JUST DIES. IF I'M ABLE TO ROLL THROUGH THE STOP, IT DOESN'T DIE, BUT WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, SOMETIMES IT JUST DIES. I HAVE TO QUICKLY PUT IT IN PARK OR NEUTRAL AND START IT AGAIN. THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS WITH PEOPLE BEHIND ME NOT EXPECTING THAT LONG OF A STOP! I DO A LOT OF DRIVING IN TOWN AND THIS HAPPENS WHEN STOPPING AT STOP SIGNS. IT IS UNKNOWN TO ME AT THIS POINT AS TO WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. COMPETITION SUBARU SMITH TOWN (601 MIDDLE COUNTRY RD, ST JAMES, NY 11780, (631) 361-4500) WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
COMING TO A STOP AT STOP SIGN, CAR STALLED. NO WARNING. VERY DANGEROUS IN BUSY CITY. VEHICLE WAS BREAKING FROM 20MPH TO STOP WHEN STALLED.
WHEN I WAS DRIVING IN A HIGHWAY, THE CAR LOST POWER STEERING SUDDENLY
AS MANY OTHER OWNERS HAVE REPORTED, I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER ON MY 2012 SUBARU OUTBACK HAS TO BE REPLACED (AT A COST OF NEARLY $1800). THIS IS BECAUSE OF THE SHUDDERING AND/OR STALLING OF THE CAR WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THIS ISSUE IS, AND HAS BEEN, VERY INCONSISTENT WHICH IS WHY I NEVER BROUGHT IT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT BEFORE THE END OF THE REVISED WARRANTY OPTION PROVIDED BY SUBARU (100,000 MILES OR 7/31/2018 CUTOFF DATE). MY CAR CURRENTLY HAS 110,000 MILES ON IT. THE PROBLEM WITH THE WAY THIS WHOLE MATTER HAS BEEN DEALT WITH BY SUBARU IS THAT, DESPITE THE FACT I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR REGULAR SERVICE PRIOR TO THE MILEAGE/DATE DEADLINES, I WAS NEVER ASKED IF I WAS EXPERIENCING ANY OF THE PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE TORQUE CONVERTER. HAD THE ISSUE BEEN EXPLAINED TO ME, I WOULD HAVE SAID THAT I WAS INDEED HAVING ISSUES AND WOULD HAVE HAD THE PART REPLACED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THIS SORT OF BEHAVIOR CLEARLY DEMONSTRATES THAT SUBARU IS NOT "DEDICATED TO CUSTOMER SATISFACTION." SUBARU SHOULD BE MORE PROACTIVE THAN REACTIVE TO DEALING WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER PROBLEM. IN FACT, SUBARU SHOULD REPLACE THE TORQUE CONVERTER WHENEVER IT BECOMES A PROBLEM. IT IS ABSOLUTELY SHAMEFUL THAT SUBARU AND THE NHTSA HAS NOT DONE MORE TO ADDRESS THE MATTER. I GUESS IT IS GOING TO TAKE SOMEONE GETTING INJURED OR KILLED BEFORE THE PROBLEM GETS ESCALATED TO A POINT THAT THERE WILL BE A RECALL OR SUBARU VOLUNTARILY REPLACES THE TORQUE CONVERTER REGARDLESS OF TIME OR MILEAGE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE SHUTTERED AND STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MASTRIA SUBARU (1255 NEW STATE HWY, RAYNHAM, MA 02767) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE WAS BURNING OIL. THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,459.
COLD RAINY MORNING, I STARTED THE CAR FOR THE FIRST TIME WITH NO ONE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON, THE PASSENGER SEATBELT LIGHT IS ON AND CAR IS DINGING LIKE SOMEONE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT IS NOT WEARING A SEAT BELT. DOES NOT TURN OFF WHEN SEAT BELT IS CLIPPED. I TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAY IT'S A BAD ELECTROSTATIC CAPACITANCE SENSOR ODS. THE 'PART' AKA REPLACING THE WHOLE SEAT IS $900. SAME YEAR OF SUBARU THAT THEY RECALLED THIS PART IN THE IMPREZA. NHTSA RECALL NO. : 15V-419
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN PARK ON AN INCLINE, THE CONTACT SUDDENLY HEARD A SCRAPING NOISE AND NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ROLLED AWAY. THE CONTACT'S WIFE WAS LEANING INTO THE VEHICLE AND WAS PULLED IN REVERSE ALONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A CURB AND THE FRONT DRIVER'S DOOR STRUCK THE HEDGE, WHICH SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN. THE VEHICLE THEN CRASHED INTO A TREE HEDGE. THE CONTACT'S WIFE SUSTAINED AN INJURY TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF HER HIP THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO SHOP WHERE ALL OF THE PANELS WERE REPAIRED; THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. AN INSPECTOR WAS SENT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE, BUT NO DIAGNOSTIC FAILURE CODES WERE FOUND AND THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000. *TT *TR *BF *TR
SUBARU OUTBACK (2012), WHEN STOPPED FOR 1-2 MINUTES, WITH THE ENGINE AND IGNITION OFF, AND THE GEAR SHIFT IN PARK, ON A SLIGHT INCLINE (TO CHECK A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD) SUDDENLY ROLLED BACKWARDS AS I WAS LEANING IN TO RETRIEVE MY BAG. I WAS DRAGGED ACROSS THE NORMALLY BUSY ROAD, BARELY ABLE TO HANG ON (BY BOTH HANDS GRABBING ANYTHING I COULD INSIDE THE CAR). MY LEGS SCRAPED ON THE GROUND VIOLENTLY BURNING THOUGH MY SNEAKER THEN ANKLE FLESH AND GRAZED THE BONE BADLY. MY LEGS ON THE ROAD TURNED THE 1.5 TON VEHICLE A FEW DEGREES AS IT CAREENED UNDER RAPID ACCELERATION REACHING AN ESTIMATED 8-10 MPH BUMPING OVER 2 KERBS PULLED ME EVEN FURTHER OUT OF THE CAR, BUT STILL HANGING ON. LUCKILY THE OPEN DRIVER'S DOOR ENGAGED WITH A HEDGE WHICH RIPPED THE DOOR ALMOST OFF THE CAR AND TURNED THE CAR ANOTHER 35 DEGREES OR SO, AVOIDING A VIOLENT CRASH INTO THE NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE. INSTEAD THE CAR GRAZED A WOODEN POST (FURTHER SLOWING IT) THEN HIT A SECOND POST WHICH BROUGHT THE CAR TO A HARD STOP. THIS PUSHED ME OUT OF THE CAR ONTO A PATCH OF GRASS, BACK TO THE CAR. AN ENGINEERING ASSESSMENT LATER REVEALED THE SHIFT-INTERLOCK HAD FAILED (INVOLVING A COUPLE OF PARTS) SO THAT THE GEAR MAY BE SHIFTED (OR SHIFT ITSELF) WHEN THE ENGINE AND IGNITION ARE OFF WITH THE KEYS STILL IN. MY INJURIES INCLUDE ANKLE (ON A LEG WITH A HIP REPLACEMENT), PTSD (DIAGNOSED AS CAUSED 100% BY THE CRASH) AND EXACERBATION OF MULTIPLE-SCLEROSIS CAUSING DEBILITATING BOUTS OF TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA AND WITH ADDITIONAL BRAIN DAMAGE (PROVEN BY INCREASED LESION LOAD ON MRI SCAN). THEREFORE THE VEHICLE FAILURE ON THIS MODEL IS ALSO POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS TO OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME MODEL CAR. WE ALSO RESEARCHED AND FOUND ONE ALMOST IDENTICAL CASE WITH THE SAME MODEL, THE SAME ROLL-IN-PARK BUT FAR MORE SERIOUS INJURY AS THE DRIVER WAS KNOCKED DOWN BY THE DOOR, APPARENTLY AS THE CAR ROLLED OVER.
ENGINE LOCKED UP TRAVELLING 80 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE HAD 90,000 MILES ON IT AND IT WAS FULLY SERVICED AT 88,000 MILES BY A DEALERSHIP. NOTES FROM THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT: 'MOTOR CAME APART AT HIGH REV SPEED, 1 PISTON CRACKED, 1 PISTON GONE. DRIVER NOTICED VEHICLE WOULD SHUDDER OCCASIONALLY AT A COMPLETE STOP. THE FIRST TIME THAT THE ENGINE COMPLETELY DIED, DRIVER THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE BEEN DUE TO WEATHER. THIS SHUDDERING AND STALLING BEGAN OCCURRING MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY IN ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD. WHEN DRIVER NOTICES THE SHUDDER, IF THE BRAKE PEDAL IS EASED UP, NORMAL RPMS RETURN. THE ENGINE WILL ALSO SOMETIMES SHUDDER DURING A TIGHT TURN AS WELL. WHILE TESTING DURING DRIVING/BREAKING THIS MORNING DRIVER MAINTAINED A SPEED OF 55 MPH FOR 1 MILE. DRIVER BEGAN BRAKING THE VEHICLE AT THE DISTANCE BETWEEN 2 LIGHT POLES (ON A COUNTRY ROAD) AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP WITH THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT FORWARD. ENGINE DIED. THE 2ND TIME THIS WAS TESTED, SAME SPEED SAME BRAKING DISTANCE, THIS TIME THE DRIVER WAS GOING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, SO UPON BRAKING THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED AT A 45 ANGLE. THE ENGINE DIED. WARNING LIGHTS: VEHICLE DYNAMICS, CHECK ENGINE, AWD, CHARGE WARNING (BATTERY) , AND OIL PRESSURE. THE CD PLAYER STAYED ON, THE FAN FOR HEAT/AC TURNED OFF.
I GOT A NOTICE THAT OUR TAKATA AIRBAG MIGHT BE AT RISK OF BEING FAULTY. I WENT ON AIRBAGRECALL.COM AND ENTERED MY INFORMATION. IT THEN ASKED ME TO COMPLETE A SURVEY BUT IT DIDN'T TELL ME WHETHER I NEED TO GET THE PART REPLACED OR NOT. PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION BODY AND HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AGAIN, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,763.

HAD SOME MINOR OIL CONSUMPTION AT FIRST BUT NOW IT IS BECOMING MORE COMMON. DEALERSHIP SAID IT CAUSE THE OIL MANUFACTURES ARE MAKING THE OIL THINNER SO THAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM? SORRY I WAS NO NOT BORN YESTERDAY. 2 REASONS FOR OIL CONSUMPTION THAT I KNOW IS A OIL LEAK OR DEFECTIVE PISTON RINGS WHICH SUBARU HAS HAD ISSUES WITH ON OTHER MODEL CARS.

SUBARU CLAIMS THAT THEIR TRANSMISSIONS DO NOT PUT THEIR CUSTOMERS IN DANGER, BUT I AM ON MY FOURTH TRANSMISSION AND THE LAST ONE ALMOST CAUSED US TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT WITH A TRACTOR-TRAILER.

THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY, NOT JUST ONCE BUT SEVERAL TIMES I LOST COUNT ALREADY. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE A RECALL, NOT ONLY A WARRANTY EXTENSION. IT IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY PROBLEM THAT COULD EASILY RESULT IN COLLISION WITH INJURY OR DEATH. VEHICLE STALLING WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR ACCELERATING FROM A STOP.
WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED OF A EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE CVT OF OUR OUTBACK. WE TOOK IT TO SUBARU DEALERSHIPS FOR MAINTANCE AND THEY FAILED TO TELL US ABOUT THE CVT GOING BAD CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN WE CONTACTED SUBARU CORPORATE THEY TOLD US THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. NOW WE HAVE HAD THE CAR LOOKED AT WHEN IT WAS UNDER THE MILEAGE BECAUSE IT WAS SHOWING SIGNS OF THE CVT GOING BAD AND THE DEALERSHIP WAS NEGLIGENT IN LETTING US KNOW OF THE PROBLEM. NOW WE FEEL OUR VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND SUBARU IS NOT WILLING TO FIX THE PROBLEM THEY KNEW ABOUT. WHEN WE FILL OUR TANK UP AT THE GAS STATION THE BREAK, TRACTION, CRUISE CONTROL LIGHTS WILL BLINK AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL STOP WORKING WHILE THE LIGHTS ARE BLINKING. WE TOOK THE CAR TO DERREL WALTRUP DEALERSHIP IN NASHVILLLE TENNESSEE, SUBARU OF NASHVILLE AND SUBARU OF GALLITAN TN. ALL THREE DEALERSHIPS AGEED THAT THE ISSUE WITH OUR CAR IS DUE TO THE CVT WARRENTY ISSUE. WE ARE THE ONLY OWNERS OF THIS SUBARU AND HAVE TAKEN GREAT CARE OF IT. WE WANT SUBARU TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND FIX THE DEFECT SO THAT WE CAN CONTINUE TO BE SAFE IN OUR CAR.
BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY WHILE DRIVING ON A DARK RURAL ROAD. WE WERE TOLD THE RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE OUR AUTO WHICH WAS MADE THE SAME YEAR AS OTHER RECALLED AUTOMOBILES OF THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL. HOWEVER IT APPEARS THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED PROPERLY.

THIS ISSUE FIRST HAPPENED IN 4/2017. AT THAT TIME, I WAS ON A TRIP HOURS FROM HOME DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE RAIN. DEALER REPAIRED A WIRING HARNESS UNDER THE HOOD. THIS JUST HAPPENED AGAIN THE OTHER DAY. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT ON 7/5/17. THE STORED CODES ARE DIFFERENT THAN IN 4/2017.
MY 2012 SUBURU OUTBACK WAS STOPPED AT A GAS STATION IN NEUTRAL AND I GOT OUT OF THE CAR. MY WIFE TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND THE CAR STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARD. I COULD NOT GET BACK INTO THE CAR IN TIME AND MY WIFE COULD NOT PULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BECAUSE SUBARU DID NOT PUT AN EMERGENCY BRAKE INTO THAT MODEL THAT YEAR. THEY HAVE SINCE CORRECTED THAT DESIGN FLAW. THE CAR ROLLED BACKWARD ACROSS A ROAD AND ONTO A CONCRETE ISLAND AND OVER A ROCK WHICH DAMAGED THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. THIS ACCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE AND NOT HAVING AN EMERGENCY BRAKE TROUBLES ME. I THINK THE VERY LEAST SUBARU SHOULD DO WOULD BE TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE DONE BY NOT HAVING AN EMERGENCY BRAKE IN THE CAR.

TOOK IT TO DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, WAS INFORMED THAT ALTHOUGH 2012 SUBARU OUTBACKS HAD BEEN RECALLED IN TEXAS, THEY WERE NOT RECALLED IN OKLAHOMA DUE TO LESSER HUMIDITY CONDITIONS. PAID NEARLY $500 TO HAVE WIRES WHICH HAD COME UNPLUGGED UNDER CONSOLE PLUGGED BACK TOGETHER. THIS TOOK AROUND 7 HOURS TO GET ACCOMPLISHED. AT LEAST 1/2 OF THIS TIME WAS SHOWN AS "DIAGNOSTIC." THE "PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT AND INTERMITTANT BEEPER REMAINED ON CONSTANTLY, WHETHER THE SEAT WAS OCCUPIED OR NOT, AND WHETHER VEHICLE WAS RUNNING, MOVING, OR AT REST, TURNED OFF.
VERY LOW ENGINE RPM, OR COMPLETE ENGINE QUIT WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THE CONDITION IS SIMILAR TO COMING TO A STOP IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION EQUIPPED VEHICLE WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE CLUTCH PEDAL. HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES AND IS MORE OF AN ANNOYANCE UNTIL IT HAPPENS WHEN I MIGHT NEED TO ACCELERATE SUDDENLY AGAIN. SUBARU SERVICE BULLETIN # 16-90-13 DESIGN CHANGE TO LOCK-UP TYPE TORQUE CONVERTER PERTAINS, BUT SUBARU HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL. MAYBE THEY'RE WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO DIE FIRST.

SUBARU IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE WITH LEGACY AND OUTBACK MODELS FROM 2010-2012 AND HAS ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN BUT NOT A SAFETY RECALL. THE COST TO REPAIR IS ANYWHERE FROM $1400 ON UP. IF IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY LIKE MINE, THEY DO NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE WITH PRICE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN YOU VEHICLE CUTS OFF IN TRAFFIC AND SHOULD BE RECALLED.

IN APRIL OF 2017, THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY AND SUDDENLY FAILED WHILE TRAVELING ON I 35 SOUTHBOUND IN IOWA. (WE WERE TRAVELING AROUND 60 MILES AN HOUR WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED) WE HAD IT TOWED TO CLOSEST SUBARU DEALER, WHO THEN DENIED THE WARRANTY. WE WERE AT APPROXIMATELY 59,000 MILES AND 2 MONTHS SHY OF THE ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION WARRANTY. EVEN AFTER THEY SENT OUT LETTERS LESS THAN 2 MONTHS LATER EXTENDING THE WARRANTY ON THE TRANSMISSION TO 100,000 MILES THEY HAVE CONTINUED TO DENY THE WARRANTY AND HAVE CONTINUED TO BLAME THE 3RD PARTY WHO PERFORMED AN OIL CHANGE ON THE CAR. THE PARTY THAT PERFORMED THE OIL CHANGE IS A WELL ESTABLISHED ASE CERTIFIED COMPANY. THEY ONLY PERFORMED AN OIL CHANGE AND TIRE SERVICE THEY DID NOTHING WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THEIR REFUSAL HAS DRAGGED ON FOR ALMOST A YEAR STRAINING OUR FINANCES. WE ARE STILL IN THE PROCESS OF LITIGATION THROUGH OUR ATTORNEY. AS A CONSUMER WE FEEL OUTMATCHED. IT IS INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY HAVE ADMITTED THAT THEY HAVE A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. YET THEY STILL REFUSE TO FIX OR SOLVE THE PROBLEM IN ANYWAY AND HAVE HIRED A PARTNER AT AN EXPENSIVE LAW FIRM TO CONTINUE TO DENY THE WARRANTY. I FOUND A SERVICE BULLETIN FROM SUBARU (ATTACHED) THAT DESCRIBES A SWITCH WHERE MOISTURE AND GREASE CAUSED THE SWITCH TO SHORT. THE SWITCH HAD BEEN REDESIGNED. I PAID 150.00 TO HAVE THE SWITCH REPLACED. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL.
