I PARKED MY CAR IN MY APARTMENT'S PARKING GARAGE OVERNIGHT. WHEN I WENT OUT TO MY VEHICLE IN THE MORNING THERE WAS A LARGE CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD APPROXIMATELY 24". THERE WERE NO CRACKS OR CHIPS IN THE WINDSHIELD PRIOR TO THE WINDSHIELD FAILING, NOR DID ANY OBJECT STRIKE THE WINDSHIELD WHEN IT WAS PARKED.
ON THE MORNING OF FEBRUARY 23, 2018 AND WENT OUT TO MY VEHICLE THAT WAS PARKED (STATIONARY) IN MY ENCLOSED COVERED GARAGE TO FIND A GIANT CRACK THROUGH MY WINDSHIELD WITH NO DISCERNABLE CAUSE.
ON FEB, 22, 2018 WHILE DRIVING SOUTH ON I35 FROM NORMAN TO PURCELL, OKLAHOMA THE FRONT WINDSHIELD OF OUR 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK SHATTERED COMPLETELY. THE GLASS REMAINED IN THE FRAME OF THE CAR BUT WAS FRACTURED INTO INNUMERABLE PIECES. THE TRAFFIC AHEAD OF US WAS GREATER THAN 100 YARDS AND I WITNESSED NO DEBRIS AIRBORNE BEFORE THE GLASS FAILED. WHEN WE ARRIVED AT OUR DESTINATION SEVERAL PEOPLE INSPECTED THE WINDSHIELD YET NONE OF US COULD DETERMINE A POINT OF IMPACT,EITHER BY THE DIRECTION OF THE FRACTURES OR BY AN INDENT IN THE GLASS.
THE SUBARU OUTBACK, 2017, 9000 MIS. SEEMED TO BE LOSING BATTERY POWER ON EACH START AND THEN NOTHING. BATTERY IS DEAD. JUMP STARTED IT..NO START EXCEPT EVERY DASH LIGHT CAME ON. HAD TO SHIFT GEAR WHILE NOT STARTED, PUT IN PARK AND HIT SHIFTER TO START. WHY IS THE BATTERY DEAD AND WILL NOT START ON A JUMP START? THANKFULLY, VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT HOME WHEN IT WOULD NOT START. SUBARU DEALER TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN TO SEE IF THEY CAN FIGURE THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVE IT MAY HAVE A FAULTY RELAY. THEY ARE THINKING IT IS THE SHIFTING LEVER. IF SO, WHY IS THE BATTERY TOTALLY DEAD?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, THE KEY BECAME STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND THE CONTACT COULD NOT TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND TOGGLED THE STEERING WHEEL TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. CAPITOL SUBARU IN SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 18,000.
THE VEHICLE HAS EXCESSIVE WANDER. THE VEHICLE HAS VERY HIGH STEERING EFFORT. DURING HIGH SPEED (60+ MPH) AND CROSS WINDS, THE VEHICLE WILL OCCASIONALLY FEEL AS IF IT'S DRIVING ON ICE. IT FEELS AS IF IT'S SLIPPING AND SLIDING WITH LITTLE OR NO CONTROL THROUGH THE STEERING SYSTEM. ALSO, WHEN EXECUTING A TURN WHILE DRIVING AT MODERATE SPEEDS, THE STEERING WILL NOT TRY TO RETURN TO STRAIGHT AHEAD AS MOST VEHICLES DO, WHEN COMPLETING THE TURN.
BATTERY DRAIN ISSUES LEAVING MY CAR STRANDED. MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES, TOO MANY TO COUNT. FIRST OCCURRENCE IN FEB OF 2018 LEFT ME STRANDED OVERNIGHT AND CLOSE TO 24 HOURS IN A REMOTE LOCATION IN NORTHERN NEVADA. A NUMBER OF OCCURRENCES LATER, SUBARU REPLACED THE OEM BATTERY (IN FEB 2019). I'VE HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES OVER THIS PAST YEAR 2020 IN REMOTE LOCATIONS IN WYOMING AND COLORADO THAT HAVE LEFT ME STRANDED.
LEASE DATE | 08/25/17 ON 01/17/18 AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF THE EYE SIGHT SYSTEM TURNING ON AND OFF, I NOTICE THAT A PIECE OF FOAM HAD FALLEN IN THE WAY OF THE PASSENGER CAMERA. I NOTIFIED SUBARU OF AMERICA OF THIS THROUGH THEIR WEBSITE AND MIKE SHAW SUBARU FIXED THE ISSUE. TODAY, AFTER TWO DAY OF EYE SIGHT SYSTEM TURNING ON AND OFF, I NOTICE THAT A PIECE OF FOAM HAD NOW FALLEN IN THE WAY OF THE DRIVER SIDE CAMERA. I HAVE NOT HAD THIS REPAIRED. BOTH EVENTS SEVERELY INTERFERE WITH THE CARS SAFETY FEATURES FROM OPERATING AND, IN THE CASE OF THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, THE AUTO BRAKING SYSTEM DID DEPLOY INCORRECTLY AT TIMES.
MY WINDSHIELD HAS CRACKED MULTIPLE TIMES. I HAD TO REPLACE IT OUT OF POCKET WHEN I BELIEVE THE WINDSHIELD WAS DEFECTIVE.
SPONTANEOUS CRACKS IN WINDSHIELD WITHOUT ANY VISIBLE EVIDENCE OF A CHIP OR EXPERIENCING ANY "HITS" TO THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING - GO OUT TO START MY GARAGE PARKED SUBARU OUTBACK (TOURING) AND NOTICE A LINEAR CRACK ACROSS WINDSHIELD ON THREE (3) SEPARATE INCIDENCES WITHIN 369 DAYS FEB 2018, MAY 2018, & FEB 2019.
I HAD TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD AFTER DISCOVERING A CRACK. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN OUR CAR PORT AND WAS CRACK FREE WHEN LAST DRIVEN THE DAY BEFORE.
OVER 4 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP (NEW WHEN PURCHASED IN FEB 2017) HAVE EXPERIENCED 6 OCCURRENCES (FIRST IN JAN 2018) OF VEHICLE FAILING TO START DUE TO DEAD BATTERY. ORIGINAL BATTERY REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY IN AUG 2019. AS OF TODAY (03/15/2021) BATTERY IS BEING REPLACED AGAIN BY DEALER AT MY COST. NO OTHER PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED BY DEALER. VEHICLE ALWAYS STATIONARY WHEN PROBLEM OCCURRED. APPROX 42K MILES ON ODOMETER.
BATTERY KEEPS DRAINING INEXPLICABLY. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR LAST 3 YEARS (SINE JAN 2018 TILL JAN 2021) AND WE HAVE HAD TO DO JUMPSTART EVERY TIME. WE TOOK IT TO DEALER COUPLE OF TIMES HOWEVER THIS HAS NOT BEEN ADEQUATELY RESOLVED. IN JUNE 2020, WE PAID FOR BATTERY REPLACEMENT HOWEVER THIS HAS NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM AND HAVE BEEN STRANDED IN REMOTE PLACES. 1. WE CLOSE THE VEHICLE, LIFT GATE, SWITCH OFF ALL INTERNAL LIGHTS, SHUT ALL DOORS AFTER PARKING THE CAR 2. WE DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT LEAST ONCE EVERY 3/4 DAYS. ON JAN 18, 2021 WE AGAIN SENT IT TO DEALER AND NOW THEY ARE REPLACING A NEW BATTERY, HOWEVER THEY DON'T HAVE AN EXPLANATION ON WHY THE BATTERY IS DRAINING
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT INTERMITTENTLY WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE CONTACT THEN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HEUBERGER SUBARU (1080 MOTOR CITY DR., COLORADO SPRINGS, CO 80905 (719) 475-1920) WHERE THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE FLUSHED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT THEN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE NO DIAGNOSTIC FAILURE CODES WERE FOUND AND THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE WHERE THE FIELD ENGINEER ALONG WITH TECHNICIAN INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT NO FAILURE HAD OCCURRED, AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE WARMED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WITHIN ONE YEAR OF OWNING MY NEW SUBARU I WENT THROUGH 3 WINDSHIELDS. ALL 3 TIMES I WAS TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY WHILE ON VACATION. EACH TIME I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TOTALING $1500. EARLY LAST YEAR 2018 I ONCE AGAIN HAD TO HAVE MY WINDSHIELD FIXED.
CRACKED WINDSHIELD REPLACED, WIPERS HAVE NOT WORKED AS WELL AFTER

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LIBERTY SUBARU LOCATED AT 55 KINDERKAMACK RD, EMERSON, NJ 07630, (201) 261-0900, WHERE SHE HAD THE BATTERY REPLACED BOTH TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,000. *LN *BF*JB *TR
REAR BACKUP CAMERA REMAINS ON AFTER SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. SCREEN HAS SEVERE BURN IN WITH Z PATTERN ACROSS ENTIRE DISPLAY. MAKING IT UN-VIEWABLE.
DCM Parasitic Drain Lawsuit for 2016-2019 Subaru Battery consistently drains to where my vehicle will not start. Dealer has replaced the battery twice (2018 & 2019) I replace the battery in 2022 and will need to so it again soon. Vehicle will not start after sitting for more that 7 days. I've been stranded at night on dark roads. I just came across the link below on a Subaru Forum where others have complained about the the same issue. and this seems to be what is going on with my 2017 Subaru Outback. [XXX] ? I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED TWO CRACKED WINDSHIELDS ON MY NEW 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK WITH ONLY 8,000 MILES ON IT. EACH REPAIR USING OEM GLASS AND RECALIBRATION OF THE EYESIGHT SYSTEM COSTS OVER $960 EACH TIME. THIS IS AN UNEXPECTED COST OF OWNERSHIP FOR THIS VEHICLE THAT I'VE OWNED FOR LESS THAN 6 MONTHS. THIS IS NOT TO MENTION THE UNSAFE NATURE OF RECURRENTLY BROKEN WINDSHIELDS. THE FIRST WINDSHIELD BREAK WAS NOTICED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT IN MY DRIVEWAY. A LONG CRACK STARTED AT THE WINDSHIELD HEATING ELEMENT AND EXTENDED 2 FEET ACROSS. THE SECOND WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED A CRACK FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE DURING DRIVING. I HEARD NO IMPACT TO THE GLASS, JUST A CRACK EXTENDING SEVERAL INCHES. THE CARLEX OEM LAMINATE WINDSHIELD IS THIN, FRAGILE AND EXPENSIVE. THERE ARE NUMEROUS CONSUMER COMPLAINTS STEMMING BACK TO THE 2015 AND 2016 OUTBACK MODELS WITH COMPLAINTS OF RECURRENT WINDSHIELD CRACKS. THIS INCLUDES A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT REGARDING THE WINDSHIELDS. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE CAR IN ANY ADVERSE CONDITIONS. IT IS DRIVEN ON THE SAME ROADS I HAVE DRIVEN FOR YEARS IN ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT NEVER SUFFERED SUCH FREQUENT AND UNSAFE WINDSHIELD DAMAGE.
WE LIVE IN LA. WE BOUGHT OUR CAR NEW ON 5/31/17 FROM SUBARU OF SANTA MONICA. AT AROUND 6,000 MILES WE HAD ITS OIL CHANGED PRIVATELY IN DURANGO, CO, WHERE WE SPEND SUMMERS. BACK IN LA ON 12/17/17 WE WENT TO SUBARU OF SM FOR ANY REQUIRED ADDITIONAL SERVICE. THEY DECIDED TO PERFORM THE 12,000 SERVICE WITH 10,107 MILES ON THE CAR. WHEN SERVICE WAS COMPLETED, I DROVE THE CAR OFF. IT STALLED FOR MAYBE 5-10 SECONDS (BUT DIDN'T SHUT DOWN) ABOUT 100 YARDS FROM THE SERVICE AREA. INITIALLY, IT JUST WOULDN'T GO WHEN I DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR. I THEN REPEATEDLY DEPRESSED IT AND FINALLY THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO 'CATCH' AND THE CAR MOVED FORWARD NORMALLY. LATER, AT MY REQUEST, MY WIFE MET WITH THE SERVICE WRITER (A LADY) TELLING HER ABOUT THE STALLING. HER RESPONSE: THIS HAPPENS ON ALL SUBARUS'THEY OCCASIONALLY STALL FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS. SUBSEQUENTLY OUR CAR HAS STALLED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WITH MY WIFE DRIVING. AND IT ALSO HAPPENED TO ME AGAIN, THIS TIME AFTER ITS 24,000 SERVICE BY THE DURANGO SUBARU DEALER ON 10/10/18 (SEE SERVICE WRITE-UP). AS I WAS DRIVING AWAY, I STOPPED ON A DRIVEWAY BEFORE TURNING ONTO A CITY STREET. THAT'S WHEN THE CAR STALLED. [I HAD PREVIOUSLY TOLD THE SERVICE WRITER ABOUT THE STALLING, BUT THE DEALER'S MECHANIC COULDN'T GET IT TO STALL.] THE TWO DESCRIBED STALLINGS OCCURRED WHEN THE CAR WAS STOPPED AND I WAS ABOUT TO TURN ONTO A CITY STREET. WE JUST RECEIVED A CVT TRANSMISSION WARRANTY EXTENSION LETTER (SEE ENCLOSED) APPLICABLE ONLY TO 2016 AND 2017 SUBARUS (MOST MODELS) WHICH TELLS ME SUBARU KNOWS ALL ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND HAS FIXED IT ON ITS 2018 AND 2019 MODELS. I RESPECTFULLY REQUEST THAT THERE BE A RECALL OF ALL 2016 AND 2017 SUBARU VEHICLES DESCRIBED IN THE ENCLOSED WARRANTY EXTENSION LETTER SO THAT THIS VERY FRIGHTENING PROBLEM CAN FIXED. THANK GOD OUR OUTBACK DIDN'T STALL AT A TIME WHEN ONCOMING TRAFFIC WOULD HAVE PLOWED INTO IT.
MY FACTORY-INSTALLED WINDSHIELD CRACKED SPONTANEOUSLY WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS 4 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. THE CRACK IMMEDIATELY SPREAD TO OVER A FOOT LONG. I REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD WITH OEM GLASS. LESS THAN A WEEK AFTER REPLACEMENT, IT CRACKED AGAIN, WHILE DECELERATING ON AN OFF- RAMP. AGAIN, THE CRACK WAS IMMEDIATELY OVER A FOOT LONG. BOTH TIMES, THERE WAS NO APPARENT ROCK OR REASON FOR CRACKING, NOTHING AROUND THAT WOULD HAVE KICKED SOMETHING UP. BOTH CRACKS STARTED NEAR THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD, BUT NEITHER STARTED ON AN EDGE. *TR
2017 SUBARU OUTBACK. NOW ON BATTERY #6, THIRD ONE REPLACED SINCE FEBRUARY 2020. BATTERY EACH TIME WAS COMPLETELY DEAD, REQUIRING ROADSIDE SERVICE. DEALER REPLACES, SAYS THEY DO A SYSTEM ANALYSIS. ROADSIDE TOWING COMPANY EACH TIME TELLS ME THEY SEE LOTS OF ISSUES WITH 2016 - 2020 OUTBACKS. CONTACT WITH SUBARU I AM TOLD THERE ARE NO RECALLS. I WAS EVEN TOLD I NEEDED TO DRIVE THE CAR EVERY FEW DAYS. THAT IS RIDICULOUS. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES LIKE THIS WITH OTHER CARS IN MY 56 YEARS OF DRIVING. CAR WAS STATIONARY, FORTUNATELY AT OUR HOUSE SO I WAS NOT STRANDED WITH A DEAD BATTERY. DOING AN INTERNET SEARCH FOR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS I NOTED THERE WERE MANY COMPLAINTS EXPRESSED. BATTERY THAT CAME WITH THE CAR DEC 14, 2017 - NEW BATTERY ...DATE NOT RECORDED...NEW BATTERY FEB 3, 2020 - BATTERY REPLACED APRIL 6,2020 - BATTERY REPLACED OCT 26, 2020 - BATTERY REPLACED FILE ATTACHED WITH SERVICE REPORT FOR BATTERIES REPLACED IN 2020 FROM SUBARU DEALER
THE FIRST OF 4 INCIDENTS OCCURRED ON STATE HIGHWAY 509 WHEN TRAVELING WITH MY 12 YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. AT THE SPEED LIMIT OF 60 MPH IN THE RIGHT LANE, THE PARKING BRAKE APPLIED ITSELF WITHOUT BEING TOUCHED. THE CAR SHUTTERED VIOLENTLY AS IT TURNED TO THE RIGHT HEADING FOR THE SHOULDER AND SLOWED THE CAR TO 35-40MPH BEFORE I SAW THE BRAKE LIGHT ON THE DASH AND WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE PARKING BRAKE SWITCH LOCATED ON THE CENTER CONSOLE. 2ND TIME GOING 35MPH ON A LOCAL STREET WHEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING. 3RD TIME ON THE SAME HIGHWAY AS 1ST INCIDENT BUT AT 55MPH AND BY MYSELF. 4TH TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS RIGHT AFTER I PICKED UP THE CAR FROM THE SHOP WHERE THEY TRIED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM AND WERE UNABLE TO FIX IT. I WAS ON THE FREEWAY ONRAMP TO HIGHWAY 509 STARTING TO MERGE ON A BRIDGE WHEN FOR NO REASON THE BRAKE APPLIED ITSELF. AGAIN THE DEALER SHOP WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR THE CAR AND I PICKED IT UP AND TOOK IT TO ANOTHER SUBARU DEALER. THE PAPERWORK STATES THAT THE CAR IS NOT TO BE DRIVEN HOME OR LONG DISTANCES. THIS SUBARU OUTBACK IS A VERY SEVERE SAFETY RISK IF I KEEP ON DRIVING IT.
TL* THE CONTRACT CALLED ON BEHALF OF HIS FATHER WHO OWNS A 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MILLER HILL SUBARU (4710 MILLER TRUNK HWY, DULUTH, MN 55811) WHERE THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY BATTERY, REMOTE STARTER, SENSOR AND REAR LIFTGATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE CAR IS SQUIRLY ON SNOW AND ICE, FEELS LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL HAS PLAY IN IT AND BACK END KEEPS MOVING. FEELS LIKE IM TRYING TO KEEP IT ON THE ROAD AND ARMS GET TIRED. THIS IS GOING STRAIGHT DOWN THE HIGHWAY. ONLINE FORUMS THEY DESCRIBE IT AS GHOST WALKING. IT STARTED THE FIRST WINTER I GOT THE CAR AND I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT NOW IN THE WINTER AND I EVEN HAVE STUDDED TIRES ON IT.
THE WINDSHIELD ON SUBARU OUTBACK 2017 WAS CRACKED ALL OF A SUDDEN.
BATTERY GOES DEAD AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS OF NO USE
EXPLODING SUN ROOF: ON 11/23/2017 OUR FAMILY WAS DRIVING FROM HILLSBORO, OR TO COOSBAY, OR FOR A FAMILY THANKSGIVING DINNER. WHILE WE WERE ON INTERSTATE I-5 SOUTH JUST NEAR COTTAGE GROVE, OR WE HEARD A LOUD SHATTER WHICH SCARED ALL OF US, WE IMMEDIATELY PULLED TO THE SHOULDER SAFELY AND NOTICED THAT THE SUNROOF WAS SHATTERED. WE WERE GOING AT 65-70MPH WITH DRIZZLE OREGON RAIN AND TEMPS AT 50'S F
HELLO, SEE ATTACHED PICS OF OUR OUTBACK SUNROOF THAT EXPLODED WHILE TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON I-95 IN GA CROSSING SOUTH NEWPORT RIVER IN TOWNSEND, GA 31331 AROUND 10:55 A.M ON 11/19/17. ALL OCCUPANTS HEARD A LOUD POP AND SOUND OF GLASSING EXITING THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO PULLING OVER. I CLEARED TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE, DOCUMENTED THE SUNROOF DAMAGE AND THEN DROVE 40 MPH TO NEXT EXIT WHERE I LOCATED A VACUUM TO CLEAN UP THE MESS SO THAT WE COULD DRIVE 35 MILES BACK HOME. WE WERE USING A SEAR'S X-CARGO CARRIER ON TOP FOR PERSONNEL STORAGE. I HAVE AN APPT WITH THE DEALER TOMORROW TO ASSESS WARRANTY, ETC. THE VEHICLE IS SIX MONTHS OLD. *TR
WE PURCHASED THE OUTBACK 2017 A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO AND HAVE DISCOVERED THAT VISIBILITY IS SEVERELY LIMITED WHEN RAINING AND WIPERS ARE ON, ESPECIALLY WHEN LIGHTS ARE REFLECTED ON THE WINDSHIELD. WE HAVE RESEARCHED AND HAVE FOUND ON THE INTERNET THAT OTHERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM....FOR YEARS BEFORE AND FOR THE 2017 MODELS. WE WERE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS AND LOCAL ROADS. A HEAVY HAZE APPEARS ON THE EXTERIOR WINDSHIELD WITH EVERY SWIPE OF THE WIPERS . SO, THE WINDSHIELD IS EXTREMELY GLARY WHEN LIGHT HITS IT, THUS VISIBILITY IS TREMENDOUSLY IMPAIRED. WE NOTICED THAT BEADING OCCURRED ON THE WINDSHIELD AS RAIN FELL AND CHANGED TO HAZE AFTER EACH SWIPE OF THE WIPERS. DEFROST DID NOT HELP; CLEANING WINDSHIELD DID NOT HELP.
FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT REGISTER FULL WHEN CAR IS FILLED UP. DEALER DID NOT REPAIR THE FIRST TIME AND PROBLEM RETURNED SAME DAY AFTER FILLING UP AGAIN. HAVE TO GO BACK AGAIN TO DEALER. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF GAUGE DOES NOT REGISTER PROPERLY CAR MAY RUN OUT OF GAS IN A PLACE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS (I.E.; FREEWAY , BUSY ROAD, ETC.). CAR DEALERS AND COMPANIES RESPONSE TO THIS PROBLEM SEEMS EVASIVE . AUTO DROVE AS USUAL. ON 10-23-17, WE HAD M.D. APPOINTMENT. STARTER WOULDN'T TURN MOTOR OVER. ORIGINAL BATTERY CAME WITH THE CAR, HAD ZERO ELECTRICAL ENERGY LEFT...I CONNECTED MY BATTERY CHARGER TO THE BATTERY POSTS, WAITED 10 MINUTES. DASH LIGHTS CAME ON, MOTOR STILL WOULDN'T TURN OVER. CHARGED BATTERY AN ADDITIONAL 30 MINUTES, AND SWITCHED CHARGER MODE TO 50 AMP 'START' MODE, STARTER MOTOR SLOWLY TURNED, AND MOTOR STARTED. MADE THE 60 MILE TRIP TO M.D'S OFFICE, AND BACK HOME, AND WHEN ARRIVING HOME, FOUND OUT THAT THE PASSENGER NOR DRIVER'S ELECTRIC WINDOW WOULDN'T OPEN, TO GET MAIL FROM OUR MAIL BOX. ON 11/26/17 I TOOK THE CAR TO SUBARU OF JACKSONVILLE. THREE HOUR WAIT AT DEALER, EVEN WITH AN APPOINTMENT. THE WARRANTY REPAIR WAS LISTED AS ECM UPDATE. DEALER'S WORK ORDER COPY RE. WINDOWS WAS " ALL SYSTEMS OPERATING AS DESIGNED." SERVICE DEPARTMENT MENTIONED THAT THERE MAY BE AN ADDITIONAL UPDATE REQUIRED. WITH OUR LAST COUPLE OF G.M. CARS, VARIOUS "UPDATES OR ADJUSTMENTS" WERE MADE VIA SATELLITE. THIS TECHNOLOGY IS CERTAINLY AVAILABLE...WITH BLUETOOTH PERHAPS, THROUGH CELL PHONE ? I MADE THE 30+ MILE TRIP FROM THE DEALER HOME TO ST. AUGUSTINE WITHOUT FURTHER PROBLEMS.
I TURNED THE CAR ON WHILE IT WAS STATIONARY, AND SWITCHED TO REVERSE BUT IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I SWITCHED IT TO DRIVE AND PRESSED THE ACCELERATION PEDAL BUT THE ENGINE WOULD ONLY REV; THE TIRES WOULD NOT MOVE. I SWITCHED THE CAR TO NEUTRAL AND CALLED BOB WADE'S SUBARU DEALERSHIP TO TOW THE CAR TO THEIR DEALERSHIP.
ON THE HIGHWAY CRUISING AT 10:19AM IN OCT 13 2017, A NUMBER OF ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS ON MY SUBARU OUTBACK FROZE ABRUPTLY. SPECIFICALLY, MY ON-BOARD GPS NAVIGATION SCREEN FROZE, THE DIGITAL CLOCK FROZE (ON 10:19AM), AND THE HEADS UP DISPLAY OF NAVIGATION DIRECTIONS ON THE DRIVER'S HUB FROZE. WHO KNOWS WHAT OTHER SYSTEMS ALSO LOCKED UP, WHICH I COULDN'T OBSERVE. AFTER I STOPPED AND RESTARTED THE CAR, THOSE THINGS UNFROZE.
I VERY SMALL ROCK CHIP HIT MY WINDSHIELD INITIALLY CAUSING AN 8 INCH CRACK AND IS NOW OVER TWO FEET LONG. THE CHIP DID NOT EVEN LEAVE AN IMPACT MARK; IF YOU TRIED RIGHT NOW TO SEE WHERE THE CRACK STARTED YOU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO. I REVIEWED FORUMS ONLINE AND HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT OUTBACK WINDSHIELDS. WEAK OR CHEAP IS HOW THEY WERE OFTEN DESCRIBED. THIS WAS A VERY SMALL ROCK CHIP THAT HIT MY WINDSHIELD. THIS AMOUNT OF DAMAGE SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. I AGREE WITH THE FORUMS; WEAK AND CHEAP. I SEE THERE IS EVEN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST SUBARU.
OPEN LETTER TO SUBARU AND SUBARU OWNERS. I HAVE A 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE REASON I PURCHASED THE CAR WAS THE HIGH SAFETY RATINGS. I CAME HOME YESTERDAY, DROVE INTO THE GARAGE AND SHUT THE CAR OFF I THOUGHT. I APPARENTLY DID NOT PUSH THE START AND KILL BUTTON HARD ENOUGH. I AM HARD OF HEARING SO DID NOT NOTICE THE ENGINE STILL RUNNING. THIS CAR DOES NOT HAVE A REMOTE START. MY GARAGE DOOR AUTOMATICALLY CLOSES AFTER A PRESET TIME. I HAPPENED OUT TO THE GARAGE 3 HOURS LATTER TO FIND THE CAR ENGINE STILL RUNNING. I CAN NOT THE IMAGINE THE CARS COMPUTER ALLOWING THE ENGINE TO CONTINUE TO RUN FOR THREE HOURS WITHOUT THE KEY BEING IN CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. PURCHASED A 2015 OUTBACK AND EXPERIENCED 4 CRACKED WINDSHIELDS IN AN 18 MONTH PERIOD. TRADED THE CAR IN FOR A 2017 OUTBACK HOPING THEY FIXED THE DESIGN FLAW. NOW 6 MONTHS AFTER 2017 OUTBACK PURCHASE AN OUTRAGEOUS CRACK FORMED ON THIS NEW VEHICLE. ALL 5 CRACKS BEGAN NOT FURTHER THAN 2 TO 3 INCHES FROM THE FRAME. SO 5 CRACKED WINDSHIELDS IN A 2 YEAR PERIOD FROM SUBARU OUTBACK. AUTOMOBILES. THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER NEVER WOULD ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. SOMETIMES THE CRACK WOULD APPEAR SPONTANEOUSLY, SOMETIMES IT ACTUALLY SOUNDED LIKE CRACKLING SOUNDS HAPPENING IN FRAME AND MAYBE (?) ONE TIME THERE MIGHT HAVE BEEN A SMALL PEBBLE HIT THE WINDSHIELD. TWICE I WASN'T EVEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. IMPEDES VISION. DISTRACTS DRIVER.
I HAVE A 2017 SABARU OUTBACK WITH THE EYESIGHT SYSTEM. IN LATE JULY 2017 I HAD TO REPLACE A WINDSHIELD WHEN I GUESS A PEBBLE HIT AND IT IMMEDIATELY SPREAD A LARGE CRACK THAT OVER NEXT FEW DAYS COVERED ENTIRE WINDSHIELD. $678.80 + HALF DAY OF WORK LOST. ON 9/27/17 AS I WAS GOING ABOUT 10 MPH ENTERING HIGHWAY I HEARD TWO POPCORN POPS - NOTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD- LOOKED OVER, AND THE SAME TYPE CRACK APPEARED STARTING AT EDGE OF WINDOW. THIS HAS SPREAD OVER LAST FEW DAYS TO COVER MOST OF TEH WINDSHIELD. WHEN THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED IN JULY 2017, A LADY WAITING THERE TOLD ME THAT HER 2016 OUTBACK WINDSHIELD HAD BEEN REPLACED THREE (3) TIMES ALREADY. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE CONSUMER DEFECT WHICH SABARU REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE, AND THEY WILL NOT COVER TEH WINDSHIELD UNDER THE VEHICLE WARRANTY.
2017 SUBARU OUTBACK HAS 8200 MILES ON THE CAR. I WAS AT 85 MILES AN HOUR 1ST TIME ON THIS CAR. ALL OF THE SUDDEN TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED AND ENGINE RPM WENT TO 4000. GAS PEDEL WAS UNRESPONSIVE FOR 2 SECONDS. AFTER 2 SECONDS CAR SLOW DOWN AND GAS PEDAL WAS RESPONSIVE AND CAR WAS PERFORMING NORMAL. SUBARU DEALERSHIP GOING TO CHECK WHAT IS WRONG.

SEPTEMBER 9TH 2017, OUR OUTBACK WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON A MIXED RESIDENTIAL/COMMERCIAL STREET INTERSECTION, WHEN IT WAS HIT ON THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL, HARD ENOUGH TO SPIN THE CAR SO THAT THE LEFT REAR CORNER MADE CONTACT WITH THE OTHER VEHICLE. THE IMPACT RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURIES REQUIRING HOSPITALIZATION AND WEEKS OF RECOVERY. THE AIRBAGS & SEATBELT PRE-TENSIONERS DID NOT ACTIVATE. AFTER THE COLLISION, THE "SOS" BUTTON WAS PRESSED, BUT THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM STARLINK. SEVERAL DAYS LATER THE STARLINK CONCIERGE CALLED TO ADVISE US THAT THE LIGHTS WERE "ON" AND CHECKING ON OUR WELLBEING. THEY WERE UNAWARE THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT SEVERAL DAYS PRIOR, NOR DID THEY HAVE ANY RECORD THAT THE "SOS" BUTTON HAD BEEN ACTIVATED. THE CAUSE OF THE NON-ACTIVATION IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION BY OUR INSURANCE AND SUBARU
WINDSHIELD HAD INTERNAL CRACKING DEVELOPED WHERE RIGHT UNDER REAR VIEW MIRROR MOUNTING AREA. NO PHYSICAL CONTACT BUT THE CAR WAS PARKED HOT OUTSIDE FOR 3 DAYS AND DEFECT HAPPENED. INITIALLY REAR VIEW MIRROR WAS STILL ON WINDSHIELD BUT AFTER SEVERAL DAYS DRIVE, IT FELL DOWN. IT IS DEFINITELY SAFETY RELATED DEFECT.
RIGHT SIDE FRONT QUARTER GLASS SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, NOT RUNNING, AND PARKED IN THE GARAGE WITH ALL GARAGE DOORS CLOSED. THE DATE WAS 09/02/2017. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW ON 07/19/17 WITH AN ODOMETER READING OF 18 MILES. CAUSE OF THE GLASS SHATTERING IS UNKNOWN.
