NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
While driving at night on autopilot last night on the highway, the frunk opened. It blocked our view, luckily it was not busy on the highway and we were able to pull to the side It took multiple attempts to close it back again
1. CHMSL Requirement: FMVSS No. 108 mandates a center high-mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) on passenger vehicles, typically a single lamp centered and positioned above the rear stop lamps. In cases where design constraints prevent a single CHMSL, two identical lamps are permissible, provided they are symmetrically mounted above the other stop lamps. 2. Cybertruck's Rear Light Bar: The Cybertruck’s rear light bar does not appear to comply with this standard, as it presents a continuous light bar rather than a distinct, centrally mounted CHMSL or two identical, high-mounted stop lamps.
Cyber truck does not have a center high mounted signal lamp and higher than the other 2 rear lamps.
Took vehicle in for service they replace the wiper motor under warranty with the faulty one that is more unsafe than the previous one. And they refuse to fix it. Research shows they knew about this for months, yet continue to risk owners safety by replacing working units with faulty ones. Then have it taken or leave an attitude.
The windshield wiper was replaced under recall with a faulty wiper that is actually more dangerous than the original and Tesla is known about this issue for months and haven't corrected it or stopped replacing working units with faulty ones. Please HELP with this issue before someone gets injured or killed by their negligence. I have made multiple attempts with Tesla service and tried all their contacts and am getting zero resolutions. Thanks
We were driving on the freeway yesterday September 3rd at 9:30pm and my passenger side door swung open while on the entrance ramp to highway 24. My infant was sitting in that passenger side in her carseat and thankfully she wasnt injured. A car could have collided with that door or it could have hit anything outside resulting in extreme damage, injury, or death. Upon inspection of the door latch, the door latch is almost completely unhinged. The screw cam off, and the latch simply swivels and does not lock the door or hold it in place. We had to drive home with our hand physically holding the door closed. My driver side door also seems to not be fully latching - though it is not in as bad condition. But upon driving it, you can feel an airgap with the sound at higher speeds which suggests to me that this door latch is also at extreme risk of failure. These two doors are the only ones commonly used by us. But given they are both seemingly failing, my guess is that all four door latches are defective and at immediate risk of causing harm, injury, or death to those Cybertrucks on the road with the same latch.
Received a “critical error” message on the screen and was advised to pull over. After doing so and putting the vehicle in “park” I was unable to take the vehicle out of park or move it at all. This would have been very dangerous if it occurred in an unsafe neighborhood or busy highway. Couldn’t even take it out of park for the tow truck driver to get it onto the flatbed so he had to use “skates” to pull it onto the truck. There were many different error messages appearing on the screen related to different systems in the car so I suspect some sort of electrical defect caused multiple systems to fail simultaneously. I uploaded a couple of pics of some of the messages below.
Brand new car. No accident. The Front and rear passenger doors noted to be misaligned from beginning (with sharp edges). It’s a hazard. Tesla says nothing they can do about it. Unacceptable.
Large driver's touchscreen in the Cybertruck gets really, really hot. Brought it to Tesla for a service today (August 5th, 2024) and they said the screen is working as expected. They showed me another vehicle and it also had the 110 to 125 degree screen. This can burn skin if you're older and lacking nerves or a child (which Tesla encourages to use the screen with their video games). As this is a design defect and not a one-off part issue, I'd personally like to see this recalled. There are other people complaining about the same issue on this very new vehicle -- [XXX] Worth noting that this high temperature is produced in the lower center area of the screen. Tesla Service says it's due to the computer processor being located in that area with no way for the heat to dissipate (ie, a TV would have room behind it to dissipate the heat, but the Cybertruck has that area blocked). Driving at Approximately 70miles an hour on a divided highway and the top right plastic trim between the back window and the steel side came loose and flew off into traffic behind me creating a road hazard for other motorists. I drove back and picked up the shattered pieces off the highway, no incident was filed with the authorities since there was no accident. I’ve scheduled a service appointment to replace the trim.
Contacted Tesla on June 25th for their June 19th recall (24V-456 and 24V-457) and they responded that my truck isn't (yet) on their list of recalled cars even though it's been 6 days since the voluntary recall happened. As Tesla has been the one to initiate the recall, I would have assumed my truck would instantly in the list. Appointments are booked out weeks in advance, and Tesla won't allow me to create an appointment now.
Windshield wiper failed without any warning. Doesn’t work and it’s raining
At highway speeds (typically between 70–80 mph), the driver’s side door of my Tesla Cybertruck begins to visibly vibrate and emit wind noise. The vibration is strong enough that I can see the door flexing from inside the cabin. It is not subtle — it shakes to the point that I’ve become genuinely concerned for my safety. At times, it feels unstable enough that I worry the door could detach, which could lead to a serious accident or even death. It is scary, and no vehicle should behave this way at normal highway speeds. I have returned to the Tesla service center seven times for this issue. During my most recent visit, a technician was finally able to reproduce and confirm the problem. I greatly appreciate that the local manager is now taking it seriously, but up until this point, I’ve repeatedly been told “it’s normal,” which it absolutely is not. From what I’ve gathered online, many other Cybertruck owners have reported similar experiences. Some mention a service bulletin and a bracket fix, but I have not received a definitive solution despite the repeated visits. No warning lights or system messages appear when this happens, and the issue only occurs at high speeds. This vehicle has been inspected numerous times by Tesla technicians, but the vibration remains unresolved. I’m reporting this because I believe it reflects a design or manufacturing defect, and I’m deeply concerned about the safety implications if this issue is not addressed.
Front drivers seat moves under hard turning. Clicking noises and the feeling that the seat is either shifted left or right depending on direction of last sharp turn. Tesla has admitted it’s a design defect after 4th attempt to fix. 2 different technicians test drove the vehicle and confirmed the issue; online Cybertruck forums discuss the problem as well. Problem apparent immediately after purchase. I’m concerned that the sear will not hold up as designed in an accident

Rear trim piece missing clips, flaps in the wind, others have had theirs fly off
I purchased 2024 Tesla cybertruck and got the delivery of the truck on May 11th 2024. One the very first day I experienced a critical warning that stated " Critical Steering issue detected" and it started beeping loudly and I was unable to steer it. Now I am unable to drive the car as I have a whole lust of critical alerts that pop up on the screen. I am concerned about my safety and others on the road. One of the warning says "loss of system redundancy detected. Unable to shift out of park because vehicle has detected loss of redundancy. The vehicle may suddenly lose electrical power, steering and propulsion, and maybe unable to apply the parking break." I tried contacting Tesla emergency roadside support and they just keep me on hold and I am unable to reach a real person. I tried scheduling a service appointment but these warnings are critical and is a potential safety concern.
While driving vehicle a prompt flashed on the screen saying “power reduced, steering performance reduced due to overheating”. Then the next screen said “critical steering issue detected pull over”. Then I got a loss of system redundancy detected. This has happened twice in one week and I’ve towed it to Tesla twice.
Accelerator pedal slipped and lodged in trim making vehicle pin the acceleration pedal to the floor.
MoThe air suspension is stuck saying it cannot adjust. The car states that there is an electrical issue. As an electric car electrical issues seems to be a concerning error message to receive. The service center has stated a part was replaced two times but the error message remains. The error is in reference to exhausting from the valve block. This removes the ability to utilize any of the adjustments and potential water wade mode. The service center said a redesign is in the works, but no such redesign is in the works.
