I was driving at 30 mph on an empty, flat, straight road when the front passenger wheel popped and the car started wobbling and became uncontrollable. I pulled over and this wheel was tilted sideways off-axis. The car needed to be towed. I was told by Tesla that the front passenger wheel’s “control arm” broke. This happened without warning and without any impact or accident on the vehicle. Had there been traffic, or had I been driving at high speed, the vehicle would certainly have collided with other vehicles.
The part that is currently under recall (eMultiMediaCard) has failed for the fourth time. The first three times it failed, it was repaired under warranty and was repaired in a timely manner. This time, it has failed (only a few days after I got my recall letter) and the car is unsafe for me to drive. The turn signals don't even work. Tesla seems to think that is perfectly fine and seems to believe (as they have told me outright) that there is nothing wrong with the car and it is still drivable. However, it is NOT LEGAL for me to drive without working turn signals. They have refused to make a timely appointment for me to get this repair completed. This the FOURTH time I have had to send my car in for THE SAME PROBLEM! They are not taking this issue seriously enough! It is neither legal nor safe for me to drive without turn signals. This is an unacceptable attitude on their part.
Tesla refuses to provide the recall service despite my vehicle VIN being on the recall list
My vehicle was having issues during 2020 with the eMMC recall. I took the vehicle to the dealership to be repaired and paid for the repair out of pocket. After this repair took place, the NHTSA forced Tesla to do a recall for the part that failed. I subsequently was reached out by Tesla who denied a refund for the repair that I paid out of pocket and did not and has not (3 months of following-up with the company) explained the denial nor offered repayment as directed by the NHTSA. Unfortunately, I am not the only individual who has had this same experience. Many individuals online have ran into the same unfortunate circumstances. Tesla Model S door handles are futuristic in design yet they have a major propensity to break on all versions earlier than the v3.0 door handles. My 2015 Tesla Model S have v2.0 and my driver side door handle now fails to extend out to let me into a car. I imagine this is a safety concern if I was in an accident and unconscious and a battery fire were to erupt someone outside my vehicle would have no way to open the door to pull me out. The contact owns a 2015 Tesla Model S. The contact stated that the camera behind the rearview mirror overheated after driving for approximately 6 hours. Additionally, the other cameras became inoperable. The auto pilot lost vision of the line and drove over the line. The contact stated that the auto connection disconnected. The contact stated that after the computer cooled down the system operated as designed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. The consumer stated he resolved the issue. The problem was a faulty cable.
I brought my vehicle in to get the eMMC fixed per the recall. I had to change my appointment twice because they did not have the parts in stock. When my vehicle began to experience symptoms of this defect, I called Tesla again and made an appointment for today. I brought my car in this morning. I just found out that they did NOT fix the defect and are charging me $105 for the “repair”.
12V battery coolant system failure results in vehicle becoming inoperative. Car must be towed to service center.
THE CAR THINKS THE TRUNK IS OPEN BUT IT IS NOT. AS A RESULT, THE CAR DOESN'T STOP BEEPING AS A WARNING TO A TRUNK THAT IS FULLY CLOSED. IN ADDITION, I CAN'T OPEN THE TRUNK AT ALL. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR I CAN NO LONGER USE AUTOPILOT AND OTHER SAFETY FEATURES OF THE CAR. I ALSO CAN'T LOCK THE CARE. ALL AND ALL, THE CAR IN UNUSABLE, BECAUSE OF AN ISSUE WITH THE TRUNK, THIS IS DEFINITELY A FAULTY DESIGN.
PLEASE NOTE: THE VIN OF THE ACTUAL CAR THAT IS THE SUBJECT OF THIS COMPLAINT IS UNAVAILABLE THEREFORE I HAVE USED THE VIN OF ANOTHER TESLA OF THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO MAKE THIS SUBMISSION. THIS COMPLAINT IS ABOUT SUSPENSION FAILURES IN TESLAS. HERE IS A TESLA IN A SALVAGE AUCTION IN ENGLAND. I BELIEVE THAT THE CAUSE OF SO MANY TESLAS HAVING WRENCHED OFF WHEELS IS VERY SIMPLE. CIRCUMSTANCES CAN OCCUR IN WHICH FULL BRAKING IS APPLIED TO A WHEEL BUT THE MOTOR IS STILL AT FULL POWER. THE ELECTRONICS ARE NOT INFALLIBLE. GLITCHES CAN OCCUR. EVEN IF POWER TO THE MOTOR IS SHUT DOWN THERE IS STILL MASSIVE STORED ENERGY IN THE ROTOR OF THE HIGH RPM ELECTRIC MOTOR WHICH ACTS AS A MASSIVE FLYWHEEL. THE SUSPENSION LINKAGES ARE NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO WITHSTAND THE TORQUE WHICH IS THEN APPLIED. IT IS EVEN WORSE IF THE ABS OR TRACTION CONTROL PULSES THE BRAKES BECAUSE THIS THEN GIVES A HAMMER BLOW EFFECT. THIS FAILURE CAN AFFECT EITHER THE FRONT WHEELS OR THE REAR WHEELS. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT TESLA IS REFUSING TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. *TR
VEHICLE HAS BEEN GIVEN TO TESLA FOR BATTERY AND MOTOR WORK TO BE CARRIED OUT. THEY HAVE NOW STATED THAT THEY WILL HAVE TO UPDATE THE SOFTWARE TO 2019.16.1/ 2019.16.2 OR NEWER , THEY HAVE ALSO ADVISED THAT THIS MAY AFFECT THE RANGE AND CHARGE RATE OF THE VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THESE SOFTWARE UPDATES RELATE TO A HARDWARE FAULT AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AS IT IS SETTING PRECEDENCE FOR OTHER MANUFACTURERS TO POTENTIALLY SEND SOFTWARE UPDATES TO THEIR VEHICLES WITHOUT REPORTING THE FAULT, IMAGINE IF A CERTAIN MANUFACTURER HAD THE OPTION OF SENDING AN OTA SOFTWARE UPDATE TO PREVENT THE INVESTIGATION INTO AN EMISSIONS SCANDAL.
DOOR HANDLES THAT PRESENT THEMSELVES WHEN YOU APPROACH VEHICLE CONSISTENTLY BREAK AND PREVENT THE ABILITY TO OPEN THE VEHICLE FROM THE OUTSIDE. THIS ALSO RESULTS IN INABILITY TO OPEN THE DOOR COMPLETELY WHEN CHILD LOCK IS IN PLACE. ALTHOUGH BROKEN DOOR HANDLES CAN HAPPEN THESE BREAK EVERY YEAR OR TWO. IT'S A REAL SAFETY ISSUE FOR WHEN YOU HAVE KIDS STRAPPED TO CAR SEATS IN THE EVEN OF AN EMERGENCY. PLEASE INTERVENE BEFORE THEY MOVE TO TOUCH LESS DOOR HANDLES, FUNCTIONING OUTDOOR AND INDOOR HANDLES ARE REALLY IMPORTANT IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY SUCH AS FIRE AFTER AND ACCIDENT. FIRST TIME HANDLE BROKE WAS AROUND 30K MILES THEN AGAIN ANOTHER AROUND 50K
MY VEHICLE IS SUBJECT TO THE TESLA MCU RECALL, IN WHICH THE SUBSTANDARD EMMC WAS KILLED BY EXCESSIVE LOGGING AND RENDERING THE ENTIRE MCU INOPERATIVE. I HAD THE MCU REPLACED PRIOR TO THE RECALL, AND FILED THE REIMBURSEMENT CLAIM WHEN IT WENT LIVE. TESLA DENIED MY CLAIM, STATING THAT THE REPLACEMENT WAS DONE FOR REASONS OTHER THAN THOSE SPECIFIED IN THE RECALL. OTHER TESLA OWNERS REPORT SIMILAR CLAIM DISMISSALS. TESLA MUST BE LEGALLY FORCED TO HONOR THE RECALL AND REIMBURSEMENT ORDER.
TESLA ARE DRAGGING THEIR FEET MANUFACTURER RECALL # SB2121001 (NHTSA RECALL # 21V035). TESLA HAS STATED THAT THE RECALL WILL NOT APPLY TO VEHICLES WITH OVER 100,000 MILES. CURRENTLY, MY VEHICLE IS AT 96,164 MILES. TESLA APPARENTLY WANTS TO "OUT-WAIT" ME ON THIS RECALL UNTIL MY VEHICLE IS OVER 100,000 MILES. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE FOR ME HERE, AND NHTSA NEEDS TO TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY.
EMMC failed prior to recall and was replaced by 3rd party vendor. Recall reimbursement was denied. Emailed Tesla multiple times without response
AFTER HAVING MY BATTERY COOLANT HEATER REPLACED ON FEBRUARY 22, 2021 I NOTICED PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR STARTING UP SLOWLY. NOTE ERROR MESSAGES WERE NOTED ON MY VEHICLE HOWEVER. ON MARCH 10 WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON A SMOOTH STRAIGHT FREEWAY THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN MY CAR FAILED CAUSING PROPULSION TO GO OFF LINE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL TO LOCK UP AND BECOME NON-FUNCTIONAL UNTIL THE SYSTEM REBOOTED. FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 TO 30 SECONDS IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. FORTUNATELY I WAS ON THE FREEWAY AND PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL WASN'T REQUIRED. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE NOW SINCE I HAD MISTAKENLY BELIEVED THAT THERE WAS REDUNDANCY IN THE SYSTEMS THAT WOULD PRESERVE BRAKE FUNCTION IN THE MIDST OF A POWER FAILURE. THERE IS NO MANUAL HAND BRAKE. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED THAT A SYSTEM FAILURE LIKE THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN AS I AM APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION, A SCHOOL ZONE OR GOING DOWN A STEEP DECLINE. I HAVE ATTACHED INVOICES FROM THE ORIGINAL SERVICE WITH THE BATTERY COOLANT HEATER THAT WAS REPLACED AS WELL AS THE SUBSEQUENT SERVICE AFTER THE INCIDENT WHERE THE TECHNICIANS IDENTIFIED THAT THE DRIVE UNIT WAS IMPROPERLY CONNECTED
The MCU on my vehicle has failed four separate times while I was driving, causing loss of air conditioning, navigation, rear view mirror and other safety features. It was scary each time it happened and I feared that I would lose control of the vehicle.
I PARKED MY MODEL S AND WENT TO GRAB SOMETHING FROM THE TRUNK, CLOSING MY DRIVER'S DOOR AND LEAVING MY CAR KEY INSIDE OF THE CAR. I WAS THEN LOCKED OUT OF MY VEHICLE, UNABLE TO OPEN THE CAR THROUGH MY PHONE APP OR BY TOUCHING THE HANDLES TO GAIN ENTRY. THIS SAME THING HAPPENED A FEW MONTHS BEFORE, TOO, THOUGH I CALLED TESLA SUPPORT AND THEY WERE ABLE TO REMOTELY UNLOCK MY CAR. IN THIS PARTICULAR INSTANCE, HOWEVER, I CALLED TESLA SUPPORT AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH MY CAR AND UNLOCK THE DOORS REMOTELY. I EVENTUALLY GAINED ENTRY INTO MY CAR BY HAVING THE DOOR MANUALLY OPENED BY SOMEONE FROM A TOW COMPANY. IT WAS RECOMMENDED BY TESLA SUPPORT THAT I TAKE MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE. WHEN I DID, THE SERVICE TEAM SAID IF I DIDN'T REPLACE MY MCU, THE CAR WOULD EFFECTIVELY BECOME INOPERABLE. PER MY TESLA INVOICE, THE SERVICE TEAM "INSPECTED AND WERE UNABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN COMMUNICATING WITH MOTHERSHIP DUE TO INTERNAL FAILURE OF MEDIA CONTROL UNIT. RECOMMEND REPLACING MCU. REPLACED MCU." WHEN I CALLED ABOUT THE EMMC RECALL THIS PAST JANUARY, I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE DID NOT QUALIFY. TODAY I RECEIVED AN EMAIL ABOUT THE REIMBURSEMENT OPTION FOR THOSE WHO HAD THEIR UNITS REPLACED/REPAIRED; UPON FILLING OUT THE FORM TESLA PROVIDED, I WAS TOLD I DID NOT QUALIFY FOR THE REIMBURSEMENT. IT FEELS AS THOUGH TESLA IS MAKING THIS OVERLY COMPLICATED AND FINDING LOOPHOLES. I ALSO REPORTED THAT MY SCREEN SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY MODEL S ON TWO INSTANCES WITHIN THE PAST YEAR, AFTER HAVING THE MCU REPLACED. THE SERVICE TEAM TOLD ME THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND WHAT I WAS REFERRING TO IN MY CAR'S LOG, ADDING THAT I WOULD NEED TO GIVE THEM THE EXACT DATES AND TIMEFRAME OF EACH INSTANCE. IN BOTH CASES I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON THE FREEWAY AND WAS SCARED THAT THE CAR WOULD SHUT OFF; I DIDN'T THINK TO WRITE THE DATE AND TIME DOWN FOR LATER FOLLOW UP.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
I INSTALLED THE RECENT SOFTWARE UPDATE THIS MORNING. PART OF THE SOFTWARE UPDATE IS A "DRIVER VISUALIZATION IMPROVEMENT" WHICH CHANGES THE LAYOUT OF INDICATORS IN THE SCREEN OF THE DASHBOARD. WHILE PREVIOUSLY THE CRUISE CONTROL SPEED AND THE AUTOSTEERING INDICATORS WERE ON EITHER SIDE OF THE SPEEDOMETER AND SET AT THE OUTER EDGE OF THE DASHBOARD'S "CENTER DISPLAY ZONE", THEY ARE NOW BOTH CLUSTERED TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SPEEDOMETER. WHEN DRIVING, THIS PUTS THE CRUISE CONTROL SPEED INDICATOR TOO CLOSE TO THE SPEEDOMETER AND I CANNOT DIFFERENTIATE THEM IN MY PERIPHERAL VISION. I NOW HAVE TO TAKE MY EYES OFF THE ROAD FOR UPWARDS OF A FULL SECOND TO TO PARSE THE INFORMATION GIVEN BY THE TWO INDICATORS. THIS, AS I AM SURE YOU ARE AWARE, IS UNSAFE. I HAVE CONTACTED TESLA WITH MY CONCERNS AND AM TOLD THEY CAN DO NOTHING TO REVERT THE UPDATE. PLEASE INQUIRE AS TO WHY SUCH A CHANGE WAS MADE, WHAT HUMAN ENGINEERING FACTORS AND STUDIES LEAD TO THIS ARRANGEMENT, AND WHAT CAN BE DONE TO FIX THE UNSAFE CONDITION IT CREATES.

THE RATION OF LUG TO BORE DIAMETER IS LITERALLY "OFF THE CHARTS" AS FAR AS THE DESIGN CHARTS I HAVE USED.... PLUS NO PROTECTION FROM CORROSION OR DISSIMILAR METALS CONTACT. A PERFECT STORM FOR SHORT TRANVERSE STRESS CORROSION CRACKING CAUSING NET SECTION TENSION FAILURE AT A LOW LEVEL, SAY 5000 PSI.** PLEASE LOOK AT THE ATTACHED PHOTOGRAPHS. THERE ARE MANY THOUSANDS OF THESE CARS ON THE ROADS. THE DANGER IS INCREASING AS THE CARS AGE. PLEASE TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION. THANK YOU. KEEF
CENTER DISPLAY WON'T TURN ON AND LOST LEFT ,RIGHT SIGNAL. WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN I WANT TO CHANGE LANE. PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING IN THAT 19" DISPLAY OPTION LOST CONTROL. SIDE MIRROR FOLD AND WON'T OPEN BACK NORMAL. THIS HAPPENED WHEN I WHEN TO THE MARKET AND CAME OUT THE DISPLAY DARK BLACK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 TESLA MODEL S. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT DISPLAYED MESSAGE THAT THE CENTER DISPLAY STORAGE DEVICE WAS DEGRADED. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,200.
I HAVE THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT (MCU 1) AND IT PRETTY ROUTINELY SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING WHICH CAUSES A LOSS OF MAJOR COMPONENT FUNCTIONALITY. I SAW THAT NHTSA IS ASKING TESLA FOR A RECALL TO REPLACE AND I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT THAT TESLA DO RECALL THESE VEHICLES BECAUSE THE SOFTWARE UPDATES ARE INSUFFICIENT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE MCU JUST NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
CAR RANDOMLY FREEZES. MANY NAVIGATION FUNCTIONS SUCH AS TURN SIGNALS WILL STOP WORKING. NEARLY CAUSED A COLLISION. REPLACED MCU PER TESLA'S ADVICE. ISSUES CONTINUE. THE LAST WRITTEN STATEMENT FROM TESLA IS "KNOWN CHARACTERISTIC OF CURRENT FIRMWARE." UNWILLING TO ADDRESS OR FIX ISSUES AT ANY COST.
DOOR HANDLES CONSTANTLY BREAK. I AM CHANGING THE 3RD DOOR HANDLE IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. WHEN THE DOOR HANDLE BREAK, THE CAR DOOR DOES NOT OPEN AND YOU CAN'T ACCESS THE VEHICLE (YOU'D BE FORCED TO GET INSIDE THE VEHICLE USING ANOTHER DOOR). I THINK IF THEY HAVE SO MANY BREAKING (A LOT OF TESLA CAR FORUMS INDICATE THAT MOST OWNERS REPLACED 2-3 DOOR HANDLES EACH), THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL FROM THE FACTORY.
TESLA MODEL S HAS AN AUTO PRESENTING DOOR. EARLY MODEL HAS A FREQUENT FAILURE AND TEALA HAS UPDATED IT WITH 3RD GENERATION. IF IT IS FAIL IT CANNOT OPEN FROM OUTSIDE SINCE IT IS STUCK AND IT MIGHT BE CRITICAL IN ACCIDENT
MY INFOTAINMENT MCU GOES BLANK OR IS COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. THIS WILL HAPPEN INTERMITTENTLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. SOMETIMES I GET IN MY CAR AND THE SCREEN REMAINS BLANK FOR THE ENTIRE DRIVE, CUTTING OFF ACCESS TO VITAL PERFORMANCE FEATURES OF THE VEHICLE, AS WELL AS DISABLING AIRBAGS. I'VE ALREADY TAKEN THIS TO TESLA UNDER THEIR 'WARRANTY PROGRAM', BUT THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN RESET THE COMPUTER. THEY WILL NOT REPAIR OR REPLACE ANYTHING.
THE SCREEN ROUTINELY FAILS AND GOES BLACK. THE MAIN CONCERN IS THE CLIMATE CAN'T BE CHANGED AND THERE IS NO BACKUP CAMERA.
WHEN MY MCU FAILS, I RECEIVE A MESSAGE THAT SAYS, "AUTOPILOT SAFETY/CONVENIENCE FEATURES UNAVAILABLE." I WILL GO AHEAD AND CLOSE YOUR SERVICE REQUEST" [AND EFFECTIVELY REFUSING TO REPAIR MY CAR UNDER THE WARRANTY ADJUSTMENT PROGRAM] THIS ISSUE IS NOT AN ACADEMIC OR FINANCIAL ONE. I WAS DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE FREEWAY IN HEAVY RAIN APPROACHING A NEEDED CHARGING STOP WHEN I SUDDENLY LOST CONTROL OF THE HEAT AND DEFROST SYSTEMS, THE CRUISE CONTROL, ALL NAVIGATION DISPLAYANDCONTROL, AND THE "SAFETY SYSTEMS" WHICH I ASSUME ARE AEB. I HAD TO EITHER RISK PULLING OVER ON THE FREEWAY, WHICH IS NEVER COMPLETELY SAFE, OR SCRAMBLE WITH THE NAVIGATION ON MY PHONE TO MAKE SURE I KNOW WHICH EXIT TO TAKE. ON SEVERAL OTHER OCCASIONS, I HAVE LOST SIMILAR SYSTEMS AND THE BACK UP CAMERA FEED AS I WAS BACKING UP OR NEEDING TO BACK UP. TESLA HAS REFUSED TO HONOR ITS WARRANTY ADJUSTMENT PROGRAM IN WRITTENTEXT MESSAGES, IS CREATING AN ONGOING RISK TO THE PUBLIC, AND SEEMS TO HAVE, IN ADDITION TO THE KNOWN MEMORY ISSUE, A KNOWN BUT UNCORRECTED SOFTWARE PROBLEM THAT SIGNIFICANTLY IMPLICATES SAFETY. Driver seat and passenger seat rocks when accelerating or braking. The seats can become loose in the event of impact from being loose in the housing. The problem has been inspected and acknowledged by Tesla service center and have unsuccessfully tried to repair the vehicle. The issue has not not been fixed after multiple visit to Tesla regarding the same issue.
I AM THE OWNER OF TESLA MODEL S 2015. I AM EXPERIENCING A PERSISTENT MALFUNCTION OF THE MCUV1 UNIT WHICH CONTROLS THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE REQUESTED REPLACEMENT OF THE KNOWN MCUV1 DEFECT WITH THE TESLA BROOKLYN SERVICE CENTER (160 VAN BRUNT STREET, BROOKLYN, NY 11231). THEY HAVE REFUSED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE UNIT AND WILL ONLY WORK ON SMALLER FIXES. THE MAIN SCREEN STAYS BLANK AND THE BACKUP CAMERA DOES NOT WORK. ALL CONTROLS THAT WERE ON THE MAIN TOUCH SCREEN DO NOT FUNCTION INCLUDE SAFETY FEATURES SUCH AND ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL AND EMERGENCY BREAKING.
MY MEDIA CONTROL UNIT (MCU) IS CONSTANTLY CRASHING OR FAILING TO BOOT RESULTING IN ME NOT BEING ABLE TO CONTROL THE HVAC, ADJUST ANY OPTIONS INCLUDING TURNING ON/OFF LIGHTS OR SAFETY CONTROLS, AND FAILURE OF THE BACK UP CAMERA. THIS WILL HAPPEN EITHER ON BOOT UP OF THE CAR OR WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE AT LEAST MARCH 2018 WITH TESLA CONSTANTLY SAYING IT'S A SOFTWARE/FIRMWARE ISSUE AND THAT I NEED TO UPDATE WITH THE UPDATE NEVER SOLVING THE PROBLEM. AS LATE AS FEBRUARY 2020 TESLA DID A TOTAL "FACTORY RESET. WHICH WILL ERASE THE ENTIRE MCU AND ALL IT'S CONTENTS." THIS DID NOT DO ANYTHING TO SOLVE ANY OF THE PROBLEMS BUT IT DID ALLOW THEM TO INSTALL UPDATES THAT SEVERELY LIMITED MY CHARGING SPEEDS CITING CONCERNS ABOUT THE BATTERY, BUT DID CONTINUED ON TO SAY THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY BATTERY. IF THERE'S NOTHING WRONG THEN WHY DID THEY NEED TO LIMIT THE CHARGING SPEEDS 50%? AS FAR AS THE MCU THIS PROBLEMS HAS HAPPENED IN ALL SITUATIONS WHETHER DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, CITY STREETS, AT A STOP LIGHT OR ANY WHERE. TODAY, 12/30 TESLA TOLD ME THAT MY EMMC HAS FAILED AND THAT IS WHY MY MCU WAS GLITCHING BUT SINCE I'M PAST 100K MILES THEY WILL NOT COVER IT UNDER THEIR EXTEND WARRANTY EXPLICITLY COVERING THIS FAILURE. THEY ALSO CLAIM THIS GLITCH TODAY AT 114K MILES IS NOT RELATED TO ANY OTHER GLITCHING I'VE MADE CLAIMS ABOUT IN THE PAST BEFORE I HIT 100K MILES SO THEY WON'T COVER UNDER THAT EITHER BUT THEY CITE PROPRIETARY INFORMATION AND CONFIDENTIALITY WHEN I ASK FOR THE REPORTS/LOGS OF THESE FAILURES AND THE DIAGNOSTICS. TESLA THEN STATED EVEN IF THEY WANTED TO COVER IT I DON'T HAVE THE MOST UP TODATE FIRMWARE SO I'VE VOIDED MY WARRANTY AND THEY WONT COVER IT. THE MCU WILL GO TO A BLACK SCREEN WHILE DRIVING AND IS UNRESPONSIVE. I AM NOT ABLE TO USE THE WINDOW DEFROSTER AND HAVE TO PULL OVER UNTIL THE UNIT POWERS BACK UP. THIS CAN TAKE SOME TIME AND CONTINUES TO TAKE LONGER EACH TIME THIS OCCURS. I HAVE REPORTED THE ISSUE TO TESLA AND WAS TOLD THAT EVERYTHING WAS FINE.
TESLA UPGRADED THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM ON MY CAR AND AS A RESULT THE SCREEN'S VIEW OF THE BACKUP CAMERA IS NOW EXTREMELY DARK WHEN USED AT NIGHT. MY WIFE NARROWLY AVOIDED HITTING A TREE THE FIRST NIGHT. THE UPGRADED SYSTEM'S BACKUP CAMERA IS ALMOST USELESS NOW AND A REAL SAFETY HAZARD AS ONE CAN NO-LONGER SEE THE ROAD OR ANY OBSTACLES WHEN REVERSING AT NIGHT. PREVIOUSLY, IT WAS A VERY WELL PERFORMING SYSTEM. TESLA HAS NOT FIRM TIMELINE TO RECTIFY THIS ISSUE.
MY GUESS IS THE MCU OR THE COMPUTER CHIP OF THE CAR STOPPED WORKING. I READ THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION ON TESLA FOR THIS ISSUE WITH MODEL S. EVERY LAST FEW SOFTWARE UPDATES THE CAR HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE AND NOW THE ELECTRICAL STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY. I CAN USE MY BLINKERS EVEN! THE CAR DRIVES AND CHARGES, BUT THAT IS ABOUT IT. 40K MILES TOTAL AND BUILD 2015.
I NOTED A CLUNKING NOISE ON THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL AREA WHILE DRIVING. I ASK FOR HELP FROM SERVICE, BUT EVERYTHING IS AUTOMATED AND THEY MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR A MONTH LATER. A FEW WEEKS AFTER REPORTING THE NOISE, I WAS BREAKING WHEN MY DRIVER SIDE FRONT WHEEL SEEM TO GIVE WAY AND THE CAR STARTED TO SKID. THE AFFECTED WHEELS SEEM TO BE SCRAPING THE WHEEL WELL. NOT MUCH HELP FROM THE SERVICE APP AND SUGGESTED I GET IT TOWED 200 MILES AWAY AT $1100 SO THEY COULD EVALUATE. MY LOCAL TIRE GUY SAW THE BROKEN LEFT LOWER CONTROL ARM AND SAID THIS WAS ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND CLASS ACTION SUIT HAD JUST BEEN FILED. TELSA HAS BEEN UNRESPONSIVE AND INACCESSIBLE DUE TO THEIR AUTOMATED SYSTEM. SO FAR BILL TO FIX IS OVER $4,000.
TOUCH SCREEN WILL BLANK, SHOW UNUSUAL CHARACTERS, NOT RESPOND, EXHIBIT PIXILLATION, STOP REAR VISION CAMERA FROM DISPLAYING, NOT PLAY RADIO OR MUSIC PROPERLY AND/OR INTERMITTANTLY, AND PRESENT NAVIGATION INFORMATION IMPROPERLY. MEDIA COMPUTER WAS REPLACED LAST YEAR, BUT NEW COMPUTER STILL HAS THOSE SAME AND OTHER PROBLEMS. HAPPENS WITH VEHICLE IN MOTION, CITY AND HIGHWAY, RANDOMLY. EVIDENCE INDICATES THIS MAY BE RELATED TO A MEMORY STORAGE HARDWARE CHIP INSIDE THE MEDIA COMPUTER, BEING OF TOO LITTLE TOTAL CAPACITY. OR RELATED TO INTERNET SIGNAL FROM MANUFACTURE BEING UNRELIABLE, WEEK, INTERMITTENT, OR DEFECTIVE.
I BELIEVE A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE EMBEDDED MULTIMEDIACARD. NO TOUCH SCREEN USE, NO CAMERA, NO AUDIBLE SOUNDS FOR TURN SIGNAL OR WARNINGS, NO CONTROL OVER LIGHTS OR DOOR LOCKS. EARLIER IN THE YEAR, I NOTICED NON RESPONSIVE REQUEST TO START UP THE CAR, UNDRIVABLE FOR 45 SECONDS, NOW IT IS UP TO A FEW MINUTES UPON ENTERING THE CAR, WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE. ESPECIALLY WHEN COMBINED WITH NOT BEING ABLE TO LOCK THE DOORS WITH THE LCD. I BELIEVE THIS IS THE SCREEN ISSUE THAT TESLA IS OFFERING REPAIRS NOW, BUT I HAVE TRIED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, AND THE EARLIEST ONE IS TWO WEEKS OUT, WHICH I HAVE MADE.

ON AFTERNOON OF NOVEMBER 23, 2020, 2015 TESLA MODEL S 85D WAS IN MOTION WITH SINGLE OCCUPANT, TURNING RIGHT TURN INTO RESIDENTIAL AREA OFF CITY STREET. DRIVER HEARD LOUD AND DEEP METALLIC SOUND AND IMMEDIATELY SLOWED. WARNING MESSAGE SIMILAR TO 'UNSAFE TO DRIVE, PULL OVER SAFELY' APPEARED ON DASH. DRIVER STOPPED CAR RIGHT AWAY AND HEARD 3-4 LOUD, IDENTICAL SOUNDS. DRIVER HEARD ANOTHER SOUND FOLLOWED BY LOUD 'POP' AND SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. DRIVER IMMEDIATELY EXITED AND SAW SMOKE BILLOWING FROM BELOW THE VEHICLE. DRIVER MOVED AWAY. THERE WAS ANOTHER LOUD 'POP' SOUND AND FLAMES STARTED VISIBLY SHOOTING OUTWARD AND UPWARD FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL WELL AREA, MID-CABIN AND REAR PASSENGER TIRE WELL, CHARRING THE CURB AND GRASS NEXT TO VEHICLE. FIRE CONTINUED TO BURN THROUGH PASSENGER DOOR, FRONT OF CAR (FRUNK), AND UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR. FIRE DEPARTMENT AND POLICE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED ON SCENE WITHIN MINUTES AND EXTINGUISHED FIRE. FIRE DAMAGE TO EXTERIOR WAS VISIBLE TO FRONT TIRE WELL AND FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. ADDITIONAL FIRE DAMAGE NOTED INSIDE REAR PASSENGER DOOR. CAUSE IS CURRENTLY UNKNOWN.
DATE NOTED BELOW WAS THE MOST RECENT OF MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES. THIS HAS HAPPENED NOW AT LEAST 6 TIMES BEGINNING IN OCTOBER 2020. WHILE DRIVING, THE 17" DISPLAY IN THE CENTER OF THE DASH SUDDENLY GOES BLANK. AT THIS POINT, ACCESS TO THE BACKUP (REAR-FACING) CAMERA IS UNAVAILABLE.

ADDITIONALLY, THE PASSENGER'S SIDE FRONT RIM WAS FRACTURED, REAR SUSPENSION WAS FRACTURED, AND THE REAR BALL JOINT WAS ALSO FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO TESLA (8105 BIG LAKE ROAD, CLARKSTON, MI, 48346, (248) 241-9321) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S AND FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE FORE-LINK ASSEMBLY, THE PASSENGER'S SIDE UPPER REAR SUSPENSION LINK ASSEMBLY, AND PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR WHEEL LINER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
THE MAIN LARGE CONTROL PANEL HAS BECOME UNRESPONSIVE WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION AT LEAST 4 TIMES IN THE LAST 2-3 WEEKS. ALL 4 TIMES THE CAR WAS IN MOTION, 3 TIMES ON A HIGHWAY. THE MAIN SCREEN TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED 3 TIMES AND 1 TIME THE CAR HAD TO BE PULLED TO THE SIDE AND RESTARTED BUT IT TOOK A WHILE TO DO THAT. THE CAR WAS DRIVABLE BUT OTHER FEATURES WERE STRUCK, LIKE SEAT WARMERS AND AIR CONDITIONING.

I HAVE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT COME NOVEMBER 30TH 2020 FOR THIS BUT I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES OF THE MAIN PANEL AND SIDE PANEL DISPLAY GO COMPLETELY CRASH AND BLACK SCREEN ON ME. DISABLING BOTH THE "AUTOPILOT" V1 FEATURE IN MID USE ON A HIGHWAY GOING 60+ MPH, GPS AND OTHER IMPORTANT ASSISTANT INFORMATION SUCH AS VEHICLE SPEED ETC(BECAUSE SCREENS ARE BLACK). ITS A VERY JARRING AND DANGEROUS EXPERIENCE GOING FAST ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAVING THE CAR "CRASH" IN SUCH A WAY THAT JUST GAS AND BREAKING ARE ALL THAT ARE SUDDENLY LEFT WORKING IN AN INSTANCE(ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE THAT AUTO PILOT FEATURE ENGAGED ON A TURN). I STRONGLY RECOMMEND NHTSA TO CONTINUE THEIR INVESTIGATION TOWARDS THIS AS THERE ARE LIKELY SERIOUS FLAWS WITH THE EMMC SYSTEM AND SOFTWARE THESE EARLY MODEL S CARS RELEASED WITH. I AM AFRAID TESLA IS GOING TO GIVE ME THE RUN AROUND AND NOT HANDLE THE SITUATION APPROPRIATELY, WHICH WOULD GENERALLY BE A CONSUMER RECALL WHEN EVENTS AS DANGEROUS AS THIS OCCUR. I WOULD SAY THESE FULL SYSTEM CRASHES HAVE OCCURRED AT LEAST 5+ TIMES SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE CAR IN 2015 AND IT SEEMS LIKE A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE A SERIOUS CRASH COULD BE CAUSED BY THIS FAULTY ENGINEERING . TESLA CURRENTLY IS TRYING TO DO AS MUCH DAMAGE CONTROL AROUND IT OFFERING TO LOOK INTO A REPLACEMENT PART BUT NO GUARANTEES ITS COVERED BY THEIR WARRANTY. THESE EARLY TESLA MODEL S'ES ARE A TICKING TIME BOMB TO PUBLIC ROADS(I SAY THIS AS A TESLA FAN, WHEN WORKING THE CARS ARE INCREDIBLE TO DRIVE, WHEN THEY DYSFUNCTION ITS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM BECAUSE OF THE NATURE OF THESE SOFTWARE DRIVEN VEHICLES THEIR HARDWARE/SOFTWARE HAS TO BE ROCK SOLID).
THE MAIN CONTROL UNIT CENTRAL SCREEN FROZE AND I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO FUNCTION FOR ABOUT 7-8 MINS. DURING THIS TIME, ALL MAJOR FUNCTIONS OF CLIMATE CONTROL, REAR VIEW CAMERA, AND THE CAR ITSELF WAS NON-FUNCTIONAL. EVEN WHEN THE CAR FUNCTIONS, THERE ARE MANY TIMES WHEN THE COMPUTER STARTS TO GO SLOW. SOMETIMES CAUSING THE TOUCH SCREEN TO GET UNRESPONSIVE DURING DRIVING THE CAR. AND A FEW TIMES, THE TOUCH SCREEN HAS EVEN GONE DARK AND NON-FUNCTIONAL WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. HISTORY BEFORE THIS LATEST INCIDENT: NOTE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES IN THE PAST 1.5 YEARS. I TOOK THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES TO THE TESLA SERVICE SHOP AND THEY USED TO JUST TELL ME TO REBOOT THE COMPUTER AND THEY MANAGED TO RESET THE COMPUTER A COUPLE OF TIMES WHILE IN WARRANTY. FINALLY AT ONE POINT AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED, THE COMPUTER COMPLETELY DIED EARLIER THIS YEAR AND TESLA SERVICE ADVISED THAT I NEED TO GET THE COMPUTER MCU REPLACED AT MY OWN EXPENSE OF ABOUT $1200. I DID THAT. NOW AFTER ABOUT 6 MONTHS OF THE NEW REPLACED MCU, THE PROBLEM HAS STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN, JUST LIKE IT HAPPENED ABOUT 1.5 YEARS AGO. COMPUTER SLOWING DOWN AND NOW TWO TIMES, FREEZING UP. I AM FRUSTRATED AT HOW EASILY THIS COMPUTER KEEPS GETTING INTO PROBLEMS AND CAUSES POTENTIALLY SAFETY ISSUES WHEN THE COMPUTER MAY GO DARK WHILE DRIVING OR TRYING TO BACK OUT OF THE GARAGE OR PARKING LOT WITHOUT VISIBILITY FROM THE REAR VIEW CAMERA WHEN IT HAPPENS. AND I'M AFRAID THAT THIS NEW COMPUTER MCU MAY BE ON ITS WAY AGAIN FOR COMPLETELY DYING A SECOND TIME IN THE SAME YEAR. MOST RECENTLY IT TOOK OVERNIGHT FOR THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TO FULLY RETURN. I AM AWARE THAT THIS MODEL HAS THE OLDER CHIP WHICH CAN CAUSE THIS PROBLEM. TESLA NOTIFIED ME THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE IT AND I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE TODAY 11/17/20. RECEIVED SOME PUSHBACK FROM TESLA BUT IT IS SCHEDULED TO BE FIXED BY 11/23.
