VIBRATION (FROM DRIVETRAIN) THAT IS FELT THROUGH THE GAS PEDAL ACCOMPANIED BY A LOW-PITCH HUMMING/DRONING NOISE. THIS PHENOMENON IS MOST OBVIOUS/NOTICEABLE BETWEEN 1500 TO 2000 RPM AT ALL SPEEDS AND LESS NOTICEABLE ABOVE 2000 RPMS.*AK
IN MARCH OF 2004, I PURCHASED A 2004 LIMITED 4RUNNER (V6) FROM RODLAND TOYOTA IN EVERETT, WASHINGTON. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN 3 TIMES NOW FOR AN OBVIOUS EXHAUST PROBLEMS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN DRIVING THE CAR THE EXHAUST IS ENTERING THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE EVEN WITH THE WINDOW IS UP. IT IS WORSE WITH THEM DOWN. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME EACH TIME THAT THEY DO NOT SMELL IT AND HAVE NOW IDEA WHAT IT COULD BE. THEY DID HOWEVER GIVE ME A NOTIFICATION FROM TOYOTA ON MY 3RD VISIT THAT TOYOTA SAYS IT IS THE GAS I AM PUTTING IN IT. I HAVE TRIED ALL DIFFERENT TYPES OF GAS FROM CHEVRON TO ARCO AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN AND THE SMELL DOES NOT GO AWAY. NOW THAT I HAVE READ ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE ON THEIR 2003 4RUNNERS I AM IRATE! ALL OF THE DEALERSHIPS OBVIOUSLY KNOW THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM ALREADY AND YET THEY CONTINUE SELLING THE NEW 4RUNNERS! I JUST SPENT $39,000.00 ON A SUV THAT OBVIOUSLY HAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM!!!! IT SOUNDS LIKE EVERYONE WITH A 2003-2004 WILL HAVE TO TAKE TOYOTA TO COURT TO GET THEIR MONEY BACK. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS NOW! I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA IS NOT OWNING UP TO AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW!! IF THE VEHICLE IS OMITTING HAZARDOUS CARBON MONOXIDE INTO THE CABIN IT SHOULD BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY! PEOPLE ARE BREATHING POISONOUS AIR COMING FROM THE VEHICLE AND TOYOTA DOES NOT THINK THIS IS A PROBLEM. I NOTICED THE EXHAUST SMELL RIGHT AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP WHEN I BOUGHT IT AND NOW 6 MONTHS LATER IT IS AS STRONG AS EVER. I WOULD ADVISE ANYONE WHO WANTS TO BUY A 4RUNNER TO BUY A DIFFERENT CAR ALL TOGETHER. I TRADED IN A 1998 4RUNNER FOR THIS BAD SMELLING PIECE OF JUNK! I WANT A FULL REFUND AND TOYOTA CAN GIVE IT TO ME PLUS THE INTEREST I HAVE BEEN PAYING!!!!! DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE CARS!!!! THEY ARE JUNK!!!!! *JB
PURCHASED A 2004 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER. NOTICED "WOBBLE" OR "VIBRATIONS" IN STEERING WHEEL WHEN ACCELERATING AND AT SPEEDS AROUND 70-75 MPH. TOOK IN FOR MAINTENANCE, TECHNICIAN BALANCED TIRES. STILL HAD PROBLEM SO TOOK IT BACK IN RESULTING IN A ROAD FORCE BALANCE AND NEW SET OF TIRES. STILL HAVE MILD VIBRATION. *JB
I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE FRONT END ALIGNMENT PROBLEMS WITH MY 2004 TOYOTA 4RUNNER SINCE DAY ONE. THE TIRES ARE WEARING ON THE FRONT END ON THE OUTSIDE EDGE EXTREMELY FAST. TOYOTA HAS REPLACED THE TIRES, BUT THE NEW TIRES ARE WEARING VERY QUICKLY ( IT IS BEING DESCRIBED AS FEATHERING). TOYOTA OF RICHARDSON HAS ADMITTED THAT THERE IS A FRONT END PROBLEM, BUT THEY ARE NOT SURE HOW TO REPAIR THE FRONT END. I ONLY HAVE 7500 MILES AND SO FAR AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND TOYOTA DIRECTLY. THE FRONT END FEELS UNSAFE. *JB
I JUST PERCHASED A 2004 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER SPORT EDITION V8 IN FEBRUARY. I HAVE JUST COMPLETED THE "BREAK-IN" PERIOD AND HAVE BEGUN TO INCREASE MY SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY. A CYCLICAL VIBRATION AND NOISE IS NOTICED FROM THE ENGINE AT 70 MILES PER HOUR THAT INCREASES IN FREQUENCY AS VEHICLE SPEED IS INCREASED. THE NOISE SUBSIDES ONCE YOU LET OFF THE GAS REGARDLESS OF SPEED. IN ADDITION, STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKE PEDAL VIBRATES BETWEEN 1500 AND 2000 RPM RANGE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. *AK
WHEN DRIVING MY 2004 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER EMITS A SULFUR LIKE ODOR. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT SWITCHING FUELS WILL HELP, BUT I HAVE TRIED ALL FUELS IN THE AREA OF ALL GRADES AND STILL HAVE THIS TERRIBLE SMELL. IT HAPPENS ON A REPEATABLE BASIS, MOST OF THE TIME AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY ONTO A SURFACE STREET IS WHEN IT IS MOST NOTICEABLE.
2004 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER HAS HAD A HORRIBLE SULFUR SMELL SINCE WE BOUGHT IT. DEALER REPLACED CATALYTIC CONVERTE AND NOW THE SMELL IS WORSE. DEALER NOW SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO.*AK
TOYOTA'S NEW COMMERCIAL FOR THEIR HIGHLANDER IS ALL ABOUT FEATURING A WOMAN PUTTING MAKE-UP ON WHILE DRIVING TO WORK. IT IS UNBELIEVABLY IRRESPONSIBLE.*AK
SIDE BLOW OUT IN A BRIDGESTONE DUELER H/T 687 P225/70 R16 TIRE AT 9:50AM. UPON BACKTRACKING DOWN YORK ROAD, NO "CHUCK" HOLES WERE FOUND OR FOREIGN OBJECTS IN THE 4 LANE ROAD. SANDY WAS TRAVELING SOUTH DOWN YORK ROAD IN PARMA OHIO, ABOUT 1,000 FEET FROM PLEASANT VALLEY ROAD WHEN THE TIRE BLEW OUT. NOTE: YOUR WEB SITE DID NOT HAVE A HIGHLANDER AS THE TOYOTA (SO, I ENTER 4-RUNNER). MY CAR IS A TOYOTA. DURING THE DAY INSTRUMENT PANEL IS NOT WELL LIT, CAUSING POOR VISIBILITY OF THE SPEEDOMETER AND WARNING INDICATORS. *AK *MR
PROBLEMS WITH THE BOTTOM OF THE SEATS MOVING AROUND AS IF NOT IN THE LOCKED POSITION. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UP TO 5 MPH ALTHOUGH THE CONSUMER'S FOOT WAS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. AT TIMES WHILE SHIFTING FORM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL AND THEN REVERSE, THE ENGINE COULD BE HEARD REVVING UP THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK BACKWARDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE. THE TECHNICIAN CONCLUDED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING AS DESIGNED AND REFUSED TO PROVIDE FURTHER ASSISTANCE. *NM
DRIVELINE VIBRATION CENTERD AT APPROXIMATELY 1700 RPMS. IS WORST IN 5TH GEAR. PROBLEM BEGAN AT ABOUT 400 MILES AND HAS GOTTEN SLIGHTLY WORSE WITH ADDITONAL MILEAGE. DEALER RESPONSE TO COMPLAINT WAS "CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE - NO POBLEM FOUND AT THIS TIME."*AK
LEAKAGE OF SULFUR DIOXIDE (SO2) FUMES FROM EXHAUST INTO CABIN OF VEHICLE, SMELLS LIKE "ROTTEN EGGS." EXPOSURE TO SO2 HAS ADVERSE HEALTH EFFECTS, SOURCE EPA. I SUFFER FROM ASTHMA AND THE SULFUR FUMES CREATE SERIOUS SAFETY AND HEALTH HAZARD.
I HAVE FRONT END PROBLEMS WHICH IS MAKING THE TIRES WEAR ( FEATHERING) ON THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF BOTH FRONT TIRES. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE TIRES WITH A NEW SET OF TIRES, BUT THE NEW TIRES ARE WEARING THE SAME WAY. TOYOTA STATES THAT THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM, THAT THIS TIRE WEAR IS NORMAL. THIS WAS NOT NORMAL ON ANY OTHER VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED. THIS WILL BE MY LAST NEW TOYOTA VEHICLE PURCHASE, AFTER 5 NEW TOYOTA PURCHASES I AM DONE!!!!! *AK
I PURCHASED A 2004 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER JAN. 2004 AND DROVE IT FOR TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE WEATHER PERMITTED ME TO DRIVE IT WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN. I FIRST NOTICED A EXCESSIVE HARMONIC DRUMMING NOISE WHEN I OPENED THE SUN ROOF. I TRIED THE OTHER WINDOWS AND THE NOISE BECAME UNBEARABLE TO THE POINT OF CAUSING EXTREME PAIN TO THE EAR DRUMS. THE BACK WINDOWS BEING THE WORST. THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT DISCLOSED AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE . I FOUND OUT LATER THAT TOYOTA HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS FOR SOME TIME. *JB
WHILE DRIVING VIBRATION CAME FROM THE DRIVETRAIN/FRONT DIFFERENTIAL AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. SEEMED TO BE RELATED TO RPM AND OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE. MOST PROMINENT AT @2000 RPMS, AND BELOW 50 DEGREES. VIBRATION FELT IN PEDALS, FLOOR AND STEERING. HEARD THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE. DEALER TECH TRYING, BUT NO ANSWERS. *AK
ANNOYING ENGINE OR DRIVE TRAIN VIBRATION BETWEEN 1400 AND 2000 RPM. MORE NOTICEABLE ON UPGRADES. RELEASING ACCELERATOR PEDAL RESULTS IN ELIMINATING THE VIBRATION AS THE ENGINE SPEED DECREASES. THE VEHICLE IS A 2004 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER V8 LIMITED. THIS ISSUE WAS INITIALLY NOTICED AT ABOUT 700 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. *CB
PROBLEMS WITH DRIVER SEAT MOVING AND MAKING NOISES DURING DRIVING ON 2004 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. IT IS A DESIGN FLAW, AND TOYOTA WILL NOT RECALL.*AK
THERE IS A DELAY AND THEN A SUDDEN AND ABRUPT ACCELERATION IN THE VEHICLE A 2004 TOYOTA SUV, VIRTUALLY EVERY TIME DURING SLOW DOWNS IN TRAFFIC AND WHEN MAKING TURNS. THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO JERK AND HAS CAUSED A HOT BEVERAGE TO SPILL ON THE DRIVER, NEARLY CONTRIBUTED TO AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHILE CHANGING LANES, AND WITH PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SPIN OUT WHILE MAKING A TURN ON A WET ROAD SURFACE - HAD THERE BEEN ANOTHER VEHICLE AT THE INTERSECTION AT THE TIME A CERTAIN COLLISION WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. THE RESULT IS THAT I MUST CONSTANTLY NEGOTIATE THE DEGREE OF PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AND WHEN MAKING TURNS. DESPITE ALTERING MY DRIVING HABITS I AM NOT ALWAYS ABLE TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM JERKING AND THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THIS PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING AND HAS BEEN A DETERRENT FROM LETTING OTHERS DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND BECAUSE OF SAFETY CONCERNS WILL BE A PROHIBITIVE FACTOR IN PERMITTING MY DAUGHTER TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE WHEN SHE REACHES DRIVING AGE. ULTIMATELY THE VEHICLE WAS CHECKED BY THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED AND THERE DOCUMENTED RESPONSE IS AS FOLLOWS: CONDITION IS NOT ABNORMAL FOR THIS MODEL VEHICLE. BELIEVE DELAY AND HARSHNESS UPON ACCELERATION ATTRIBUTABLE TO DRIVE LINE LASH AND ENGINE LAG DUE TO ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL. COMMENTS AS A RESULT OF FURTHER PHONE CONVERSATIONS WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE AT THE DEALER WERE ABOUT DESIGN FLAW, WARRANTY NOT APPLICABLE IN THIS SITUATION, NO REPAIR .CURRENTLY AVAILABLE, COULD NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM - EVEN IF I WERE TO PAY, AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND CONCERNS BY OTHER DRIVERS, WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DOCUMENTATION OR ASSISTANCE. *AK
ROTTEN EGG SMELL WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED QUICKLY FROM EITHER A STANDSTILL OR ALREADY MOVING. I'VE TRIED ALL DIFFERENT TYPES OF GAS BUT TO NO AVAIL.*AK
2004 SR5 V6 4WD EXPERIENCES DRONING VIBRATION OR RUMBLING ON FLOOR, PEDALS, AND STEERING WHEEL WHEN CAR IS DRIVEN BETWEEN 1500-2000 RPM. VIBRATIONS ARE SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE FOR AMBIENT TEMPERATURES BELOW 35 DEGREES F. AND VERY BAD BELOW 15 DEGREES F. ALSO BECOMES MORE PREDOMINANT DURING ACCELERATION. VIBRATION DISSAPPEARS WHEN TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AT SAME SPEED. APPEARS PROBLEM IS IN DRIVE TRAIN/TRANSAXEL AND NOT TRANSMISSION. *AK
I OWN AN 2004 TOYOTA 4RUNNER SPORT WITH THE V8/AWD. TOOK IT ON A LONG ROAD TRIP OVER X-MAS AND NOTICED AT EXACTLY 71MPH YOU START TO HEAR A CYCLICAL NOISE (ABOUT 2-3 PER SECOND) THAT INCREASES IN FREQUENCY AS VEHICLE SPEED CLIMBS. NO VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL OR PEDALS. BUT BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER FEEL IT IN FLOORBOARDS AND HEAR IT. DISAPPEARS AT 82 - 85 OR SO, AND AS SOON AS FOOT IS REMOVED FROM THE GAS PEDAL. DEALER CLAIMS NO KNOWN ISSUES AND OFFERS NO SOLUTION. *AK
THE DRIVER TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR MAINTENANCE. THE MECHANIC NOTICED THE BRAKES AND OTHER PARTS NEEDED REPLACING BECAUSE THEY WERE RUSTED AND CORRODED. *PH *CB *JB
WHEN COMING TO A STOP & BRAKING, CAR ACCELERATED FORWARD. THIS CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT WITH MUCH DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF MY CAR. THIS CAUSED ME TO HIT THE BUILDING IN FRONT OF ME WITH EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE BUILDING. IT WAS AMAZING PART OF THE BUILDING DID NOT FALL DOWN ON THE TOP OF MY CAR WHICH WOULD HAVE CAUSED ME SERIOUS INJURY.*AK

BREAK PEDAL VIBRATES EVERY OTHER TIME IT IS PRESSED DOWN. IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE HOW HARD YOU PRESS. IT GOES AWAY AFTER FEW SECONDS. IT IS NOT AN ABS RELATED VIBRATION. *LA
DRIVER SEAT WOULD SHIFT AROUND WHILE DRIVING AND ONCE IN GEAR VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE ON ITS WON WITHOUT ANY PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE GAS PEDAL. *PH MECHANIC TEST DROVE VEHICLE, BUT FAILED TO FIND OUT THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *LA
