FOR 3 DAYS THE CAR WOULD START WITH ENGINE ROUGHNESS, LASTING 15 SECONDS OR SO (SOMETIMES WITH A CLOUD OF SMOKE FROM THE EXHAUST). ON THE 3RD DAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, VSC, AND TRAC LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. AN ANALYSIS AT AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOUND A COMPUTER CODE OF P0306 (ENGINE MIS-FIRE ON CYLINDER 6). A BORESCOPE VIDEO OF THE CYLINDER SHOWS SMALL AMOUNTS OF COOLANT ENTERING THE CYLINDER, INDICATING A HEAD GASKET LEAK. SEARCHING THIS VEHICLE ONLINE AND IN THIS DATABASE SHOWS A HIGH NUMBER OF REPORTS OF HEAD GASKETS LEAKING INTO CYLINDER 6. I AM LOOKING AT QUOTES BETWEEN $2500-5000 FOR REPAIRS.
EXTENSIVE RUSTING OF THE FRAME.
STATIONARY ON STARTUP - MY 2005 TOYOTA HAS BEEN RENDERED WORTHLESS BECAUSE OF A FACTORY DEFECT IN THE BLOWER FAN THAT ONLY RUNS WHEN COLD STARTING THE ENGINE. IT TRIGGERS THE "LIMP HOME" MODE IN THE VEHICLE WHICH OVERRIDES TRANSMISSION SHIFTING AND MAKES THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE ERROR CODE FOR THIS PROBLEM IS P0418 SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM RELAY. THIS IS A WELL-KNOWN PROBLEM AND HAS OCCURRED IN MANY, MANY OF THE TOYOTA 4.7 L ENGINES IN DIFFERENT VEHICLES. TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THIS DEFECT IN THIS/THESE PART(S). THIS COULD NOT BE PREDICTED OR PREVENTED BY SERVICING THE VEHICLE AT REGULAR INTERVALS, OR ANY OTHER METHOD OF TYPICAL CONSUMER MAINTENANCE. THE PRICE FOR REPAIR IS IN THE $3-THOUSAND DOLLAR RANGE. THIS WAS NOT A CONSUMER NEGLECT ITEM. TOYOTA HAS A PART IN THEIR ENGINE THAT IS DEFECTIVE, AND THEY KNOW THAT. I DO NOT HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY FOR THIS VEHICLE, SO I USE A COMPUTER TO RESET THE CODE UNTIL THIS GETS RESOLVED, OR THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW IN 2005 IN VIRGINIA. IT HAS SPENT THE LAST 13 YEARS IN NORTH CAROLINA WHERE SALT IS RARELY USED ON THE ROADS. I OCCASIONALLY TAKE IT ON THE BEACH BUT ALWAYS FULLY SPRAY THE UNDERBODY WITH FRESH WATER AFTERWARDS. ABOUT 2 YRS AGO I STARTED NOTICING SEVERE RUST NEAR CRITICAL WELDS ON THE FRAME. I CLEANED, PRIMED AND PAINTED THESE AREAS THE BEST I COULD COULD TO TRY AND SLOW DOWN THE RUST. YESTERDAY WHEN GETTING TIRES MOUNTED MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THE RUST IS GETTING TO THE POINT IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I'M GETTING READY TO DRIVE CROSS COUNTRY THE END OF THE MONTH SO THIS WAS NOT GOOD NEWS. I HAVE MAINTAINED THE TRUCK METICULOUSLY AND ONLY HAVE 130K MILES ON IT. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE TOYOTA HAS NOT ADDRESSED THIS PROBLEM. I CAN'T AFFORD A NEW TRUCK AND SELLING THIS ONE, THOUGH IT LOOKS AND DRIVES MINT, WILL BE DIFFICULT OR IMPOSSIBLE ONCE THE FRAME IS INSPECTED. I HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE RUST OUT LIKE THIS THOUGH I OWNED MANY WHEN I LIVED IN THE HEAVY SALT USING STATE OF NY YEARS AGO. THERE IS DEFINITELY A PROBLEM WITH THESE 4RUNNERS THAT TOYOTA IS FAILING TO ADDRESS, I JUST HOPE IT DOESN'T DECIDE TO FAIL WHEN I'M 2000 MILES FROM HOME AND DRIVING 70 MPH.
THE FRAME ON MY 2005 TOYOTA 4RUNNER IS SEVERELY RUSTED. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE PIECES FALL OFF MY SUV, SOME WHILE DRIVING. THIS INCLUDES THE FRONT SKID PLATE, TRANSMISSION LINES, AND OTHER SMALL COMPONENTS. THE FRAME ON MY SUV IS COMING APART. RATHER LARGE PIECES ARE 'FLAKING' OFF. IT IS PLAIN TO SEE WHERE THE METAL IS SEPARATING. I RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT IMPACT SENSORS HAVE RUSTED LOOSE OF THE FRAME AND ARE NOW DANGLING FREE. THIS LEAVES MY SUV SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE AIRBAGS NOT INFLATING DURING A FRONT-END CRASH. THE ABOVE HAS BEEN OCCURRING OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS. I HAVE OPENED CASE #1707170870 WITH TOYOTA, BUT THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NO REMEDY FOR MY VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. WHEN THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THERE WAS A TWO SECOND DELAY BEFORE THE VEHICLE JOLTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT FELT AS THOUGH SOMEONE HAD REAR-ENDED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DRIVESHAFT WAS LUBRICATED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE SUN ROOF COVER BECAME DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE AND FELL OFF ONTO THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE VEERED LEFT TO RIGHT. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE STABILITIZER BAR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THERE WAS NO "FRAME ROTTING" SELECTION SO I JUST CHOSE WHAT I THINK IS AFFECTED. MAJOR SCALING ON THE INSIDE. OUTSIDE LOOKS PERFECT. WELL, IT SEEMS THAT THE INSIDE ROTTED SO BAD THAT MY INNER FRAME RAIL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE NEAR THE REAR TRACK ARM HAD ALMOST ROTTED THROUGH. IT IS SOFT LIKE A SPONGE, BUT YET THE FACTORY TOYOTA FRAME PAINT HELD IT TOGETHER. POKING IT WITH MY FINGER AND IT ALL CRUMBLED REVEALING QUITE A FEW HOLES. HOOD ALSO HAS A LOT OF LITTLE RUSTED PARTS. THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN BECAUSE OF NEGLIGENCE OF MY PART. I TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY CARS AND NEVER HAD TROUBLES LIKE THESE WITH ANY OTHER CAR BRANDS.
BOUGHT VEHICLE AND 1ST SERVICE WAS NOTIFIED THAT I HAVE MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF FRAME RUST. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN SOUTH CAROLINA WHERE IT RARELY SNOWS.
ON JULY 31, 2015 WHILE TRAVELING EAST ON I-78 NEAR EASTON PENNSYLVANIA AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL IN MY VEHICLE ABRUPTLY BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. I WAS FEARFUL OF LOOSING CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE. A SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION BY TRI-COUNTY TOYOTA IN ROYERSFORD, PA TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THIS MALFUNCTION REVEALED EXTENSIVE RUST DAMAGE TO THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER DID NOT OFFER ANY REMEDY TO CORRECT THE CONDITION TO MAKE IT SAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE. VIA EMAIL I CONTACTED THE EXECUTIVE OFFICES OF TOYOTA MOTOR SALES, USA. THEIR REPRESENTATIVE DID RESPOND TO ME BUT DID NOT OFFER ME ANY RESOLUTION TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD. SHE DID OFFER ME A $1,500 "LOYALTY" OFFER TOWARDS THE PURCHASE OF A NEW TOYOTA. THAT RESPONSE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO ME. THIS IS CLEARLY A DESIGN FLAW WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT MAKE THEM DANGEROUS ON THE ROADS. THERE ARE OTHER 4RUNNER OWNERS WHO HAVE SIMILAR EXPERIENCES WITH THEIR VEHICLES. ADDITIONALLY, OTHER TOYOTA VEHICLES HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME CONDITION. MY VEHICLE IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION MECHANICALLY BECAUSE I HAVE DILIGENTLY ADHERED TO TOYOTA'S MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE. I REGULARLY WASH IT SO THAT NEITHER THE BODY NOR THE INTERIOR SHOW ANY UNDUE SIGNS OF WEAR. I AM MERELY SEEKING REASONABLE REMEDY TO THIS ISSUE THAT WAS NOT CAUSED BY ANY FAULT OF MINE.

THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO DECELERATE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKES ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED ABRUPTLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER BOOSTER ASSEMBLY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. SUSPENSION. VEHICLE USED IN THE NE US--MA. VEHICLE IS UNSTABLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WANDERS. IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP STEADY. HEAVY RATTLE IN SUSPENSION AT ALL TIMES (FIRST NOTED IN 2015), EXCEPT ON VERY SMOOTH PAVEMENT. SIGNIFICANT RUSTING NOTED ON REPAIRS. MAY NOT PASS SAFETY INSPECTION. NO BODY RUST. MILEAGE LESS THAN 150K.
SUV UNDER CARRIAGE IS EXTREMELY RUSTED

THE CONTACT WAS NOTIFIED BY THE MANUFACTURER OF THE POTENTIAL DEFECT ACCORDING TO A MANUFACTURER'S SATISFACTION CAMPAIGN, BUT THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
RUST! FRAME IS RUSTING SEVERELY. ITS LOOKS TO BE A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMETHING MAJOR FAILS ON THE FRAME. MOST RECENTLY, THE HEAT SHIELD ABOVE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTOR RUSTED OFF AND FELL FROM THE MOVING VEHICLE. THE MOUNTING BOLTS HAD RUSTED TO NOTHING ALLOWING THE HEAT SHIELD TO BECOME LOOSE AND EVENTUALLY FALL OFF.
TWO SERVICE CENTER REFUSED TO WORKED ON 4-RUNNER BECAUSE OF MAJOR RUST ISSUE. THIS IS A GARAGED 58,000 4-RUNNER WITH PARTS THAT ARE FALLING OFF FROM THE UNDERSIDE. TOYOTA CLAIMS THEY DO NOT HAVE RUST PROBLEMS WITH THERE 4RUNNER.
RIGHT FRONT SUBFRAME HAS RUST THAT HAS STEADILY GOTTEN WORSE DESPITE A 2ND ATTEMPT TO GRIND RUST OFF REPAINT AND UNDERCOAT. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING ON VEHICLE THAT HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED TOP TO BOTTOM INCLUDING SALT AND GRIME REMOVAL CONSISTENTLY SINCE PURCHASED BRAND NEW . THIS US SOON GOING TO BREAK RESULTING IN VEHICLE NOT PASSING INSPECTION. THIS SHOULD BE RECTIFIED LIKE THE TACOMA ONE PICTURE US THE SIDE WITH HOLES AND UNDERCOATING I HAVE BEEN FIXING THE OTHER SIFE HAS NO ISSUE
UPON INSPECTION OF THE FRAME I HAVE FOUND AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF RUST. THIS CONCERNS ME IN TWO WAYS, POSSIBLE FRAME FAILURE AND LOSS OF ANY VALUE THE TRUCK MAY HAVE. *TR
MY DASHBOARD IS CRACKED FROM THE LENGTH OF THE DRIVERS SIDE TO THE PASSENGER SIDE. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA IN 2015 ABOUT THIS CONDITION AND THEY WERE EXTENDING THE WARRANTY UNTIL MAY 2017. THE LOCAL DEALER SAID THEY COULD NOT ORDER THE NEW DASHBOARD UNTIL JANUARY 2016. MINE WAS ORDERED, BUT I HAVE BEEN WAITING 11 MONTHS AND THEY CAN'T TELL ME WHEN THE DASHBOARD WILL BE IN. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHEN THE NEW DASHBOARD WILL ARRIVE. TOYOTA'S LETTER STATED IT WOULD TAKE SEVERAL MONTHS TO GET THE PARTS. THE LETTER ALSO STATED I WOULD GET ANOTHER LETTER ONCE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANOTHER LETTER.

I HAD MY ELECTRONIC SUN/MOON ROOF REPLACED A YEAR OR SO AFTER THE WARRANTY, BECAUSE IT JAMMED IN THE OPEN POSITION. TOYOTA REPLACEMENT CHARGE WAS $2000 +. IT JAMMED AGAIN THIS SPRING AND THE "BASIC REPAIR" HAS NOT WORKED AND TOYOTA WANTS TO AGAIN CHARGE $2000 +. THIS IS A CHRONIC COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS MAKE/MODEL AND FEATURE AND TOYOTA ONLY WILL WARRANT ANY REPAIR/REPLACEMENT WORK TO 1 YEAR.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM A MANUFACTURER RECALL. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
UNDERCARRIAGE (BODY) RUST IS CONTINUING TO WORSEN. THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR SEVERAL YEARS. IN FACT WHEN OUR 2003 TOYOTA TACOMA WAS RECALLED FOR THIS VERY SAME ISSUE, I QUESTIONED WHY THE 4RUNNERS WERE NOT PART OF THE RECALL TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND ALSO HEADQUARTERS. I DID NOT RECEIVE FAVORABLE ANSWERS.
CORRODED AND RUSTY FRAMES ON MOST OF THESE YEAR TOYOTA 4RUNNERS, INCLUDING MINE.
IN MIAMI, FL. AT INTERSECTION OF WATERWAY DRIVE AND SW. 72 AVE. MADE LEFT TURN UNDER RAIN, (ALL DAY RAINING) I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AFTER TURN. CAME TO A STAND STILL AND MOMENTARILY, I ACCELERATED TOWARDS A TREE APROX. 15 FEET AWAY, VEHICLE CRASHED AGAINST TREE SO SEVERELY THAT PASSENGER SIDE OF FRAME BENT BAD (DECLARED TOTAL LOST BY STATE FARM INSURANCE). AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I HIT MY AGAINST HEAD AGAINST THE WINDSHIELD, HIT STEERING WHEEL WITH RIB CAGE, I WAS TAKEN TO SOUTH MIAMI HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM. AFTER TWO CAT SCANS AND TWO X-RAYS I WAS SENT HOME TO FOLLOW- UP WITH MY PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN I AM STILL IN PAIN MAINLY NECK AN SHOULDERS AND LATELY MY LOWER BACK. STILL HAVE TROUBLE SLEEPING, ETC. CANNOT DO HOUSE CHORES. PCP FORBIDDEN ANY TYPE OF EXERCISE FOR THE TIME BEING. PLEASE ADVISE. I SURRENDERED THE CAR TO STATE FARM INSURANCE BUT DID NOT SIGN THE TITLE OVER TO THEM YET. MY 2005 4RUNNER HAS CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE FRAME THAT HAS BEEN NOTICED BOTH BY MYSELF AND MY MECHANIC MY CAR SITS ON THE SAME FRAME AS A TACOMA WHICH HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR DEFECTIVE FRAMES HOWEVER THE 4RUNNER HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED AND HAS NUMEROUS FRAME PROBLEMS AND COMPLAINTS ON FILE
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH VSC TRAC. AFTER TAKING VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST $2,048.73 DUE TO THE AIR PUMP BEING STUCK IN OFF POSITION. WHILE TOYOTA IN RESPONSE TO REPORTS OF AIR INDUCTION PUMP ASSEMBLIES AND/OR AIR INJECTION SWITCHING VALVES ISSUES ON THEIR 2007-2010 TUNDRA AND 2008-2010 SEQUOIA MODELS, TOYOTA HAS DECIDED TO INCREASE ITS WARRANTY ON THESE PARTS AND IS EVEN OFFERING A REIMBURSEMENT IF YOU ALREADY HAD THIS ISSUE FIXED. MY VEHICLE HAS THE IDENTICAL ENGINE OF THE ABOVE-NAMED VEHICLES BUT TOYOTA DOES NOT OFFER ANY HELP WITH THE 4RUNNER. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT IF I DO NOT GET THE PROBLEM FIXED IT BECOMES A HUGE PROBLEM WITHIN FEDERALLY MANDATED EMISSIONS REQUIREMENT. *TR

I OWN A 2005 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. THE FRAME IS RUSTING SO SEVERELY THAT IT MAY NOT PASS INSPECTION NEXT YEAR AT THIS TIME. I LIVE IN PA. I HAVE HEARD THAT TOYOTA HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THEY HAVE HAD FRAME ISSUES WITH THE TACOMA (SAME CHASIS), THE EARLY TUNDRAS (I OWN A RECALLED 2000 WITH SAME ISSUE), SEQUOIAS (SAME CHASIS AS TUNDRA...... THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V113000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTIFICATION PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. I OWN A 2005 4RUNNER SPORT 4.7L. I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW FROM GENE REED TOYOTA IN CHARLESTON, SC. THIS IS NOT MY DAILY DRIVER AND STAYS IN THE GARAGE MOST OF THE TIMES. IT ONLY HAS 59K ON IT. THIS PAST WEEKEND I WAS DUSTING IT OFF GETTING READY FOR A SUNDAY DRIVE AND NOTICED A CRACK STARTING AT THE GAUGES AND FOLLOWING THE CURVE ON THE DASH ALL THE WAY OVER TO THE TOP OF THE RADIO. I JUST DROVE IT A WEEK AGO AND THAT WAS NOT THERE. I HAVE NEVER USED ANY CHEMICALS ON MY DASH, ONLY A DAMP CLOTH. AT FIRST GLANCE I THOUGHT IT WAS A FACTORY SEAM. I PULLED IT OUT OF THE GARAGE AND INTO THE SUNLIGHT WHERE I COULD SEE IT BETTER AND SURE ENOUGH YOU COULD SEE THE YELLOW FOAM INSIDE THE CRACK. I WENT TO GOOGLE THE PROBLEM AND COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EYES AT ALL THE SAME, EXACT PROBLEMS THAT WERE GOING ON. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS WITH THE 4RUNNER'S DASH CRACKING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN TOYOTA WITH THE QUALITY OF MATERIALS THAT THEY USED TO MAKE THIS DASH PAD. MY VEHICLE IS IN MINT CONDITION AND HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT IT'S ENTIRE LIFE.THIS SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MOSTLY TO THE 2003-2005 4RUNNER'S ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. I HAVE READ THAT OTHER OWNER'S HAVE CONTACTED THEIR DEALERSHIP AND TOYOTA MOTOR SALES USA, INC. ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE ALL REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED BY TOYOTA BECAUSE I HAVE NOTICED THE CRACK IS GETTING BIGGER WHEN IT EXPANDS IN THE HEAT OF THE SUN. THE DASH PAD GOES DIRECTLY OVER THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG AND IF THE CRACKING CONTINUES IT COULD MAKE THE AIRBAG MALFUNCTION AND DEPLOY UNEXPECTEDLY. I HAVE READ OTHER 4RUNNER OWNER'S ARE VERY WORRIED THAT THE CRACKING DASH WILL EFFECT THE AIRBAG TOO.TOYOTA COULD AT LEAST PAY HALF FOR THE PART AND LET A TOYOTA TECH INSTALL IT. *TR
MY 4 RUNNER HAS EXTREME FRAME CORROSION DUE TO POOR QUALITY. THE VEHICLE IS NOW SUFFERING NUMEROUS SAFETY ISSUES AS A RESULT. THE FRAME IS NOT REPAIRABLE AND THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IT HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION.
ON A COLD DAY, ACTIVATING THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER CAUSES THE GLASS TO SHATTER FROM TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE. THE EFFECTS OF THIS CAN BE STARTLING AND POTENTIAL CAUSE THE VEHICLE OPERATOR TO LOOSE CONTROL, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR
LEAKING EXHAUST MANIFOLDS DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN THIS IS ON THE V8 4RUNNER. EXHAUST WILL GO INTO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE AND SMELL LIKE ROTTEN EGGS. TOYOTA WILL NOT HELP IN THE REPLACEMENT OF THESE MANIFOLDS. THE CHARGE IS 2500 TO REPLACE. THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS ISSUE. IT IS HARD TO DRIVE WITH EXHAUST LEAKING IN THE CAB SOMETIMES GETTING SICK.
I WAS LEAVING MY HOUSE AND MY BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED! FOOT TO THE FLOOR AND NOTHING HAPPENED. THERE WAS NO WARNING OR BACK UP TO HELP ME STOP. LUCKILY I WAS IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND ONLY RAN INTO A NEIGHBORS YARD (AND DID NOT HIT ANY CHILDREN). I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER CONTACTING TOYOTA, THE PARTS DEPT ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE, AND THEN ASKED IF I WANTED THE PART (FOR A SMALL FORTUNE). BASICALLY HE SAID EITHER YOU FIX IT, OR DON'T DRIVE THE CAR ANYMORE. IN ADDITION HE COMPARED THE BRAKE FAILURE TO A TV BREAKING! A TV?! A COMPLETE BREAK FAILURE PUTS NOT ONLY THE DRIVER, BUT THE GENERAL PUBLIC IN SERIOUS JEOPARDY. WHAT HAS TO HAPPEN FOR TOYOTA CORPORATE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS ISSUE AND ISSUE A RECALL? *TR

I HAD NOT BEEN HIT, THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF ANY PROJECTILE, AND NOT NEAR OPPOSING TRAFFIC FOR SOMETHING TO BE KICKED UP. SHORTLY BEFORE THAT, I HAD ON BOTH MY FRONT VENT DEFROSTER TO CLEAR THE MORNING WINDSHIELD FOG, AND THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER. I SMELLED A SORT OF RUBBER BURNING SMELL; AFTER 2 MINUTES, I PRESUMED IT WAS MY AC UNIT, SO I SHUT IT OFF TO SEE IF THE SMELL WOULD DISSIPATE. I DID NOT SHUT OF THE REAR DEFROSTER. ABOUT 60S LATER IS WHEN THE SPONTANEOUS BURST HAPPENED. I HAVE SINCE RUN THE FRONT AC AND WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER, AND NO HOT RUBBER ODOR. I HAD JUST RUN THE REAR DEFROSTER 3 DAYS AGO AS WELL, NO PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE WINDOW ROLLING UP AND DOWN. I DO FIND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME THING ONLINE IN THE 4RUNNER, BUT DO NOT FIND ANY TOYOTA, OR OTHER SAFETY BULLETINS, FORMAL NOTICES, OR LIABILITIES. *TR

EXCESSIVE CORROSION ALONE ENTIRE FRAME RAIL FRONT TO BACK. GAS TANK RETAINING BELTS/STRAPS RUSTED OUT COMPLACENTLY, NO LONGER SECURING GAS TANK TO VEHICLE.
NOTICED AFTER JUST PURCHACING A USED 4RUNNER FRO A TOYOTA DEALER SHIP THAT MY BRAKES SEEM TO BE MAKING A LOT OF NOISE. WENT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THAT THE FRONT CALIPERS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR WERE FROZEN DUE TO RUST AND THAT HE HAS NOTICED THIS ISSUE WITH MULTIBLE SEQUOIAS AND 4RUNNERS.
