REAR HATCH WINDOW SHATTERED DUE TO OVERHEATING OF DEFROSTER. OVERHEATED WHILE IN MOTION. SHATTERED AFTER PARKED.
FRAME IS RUSTED EXCESSIVELY. GARAGE KEPT EVERY WINTER. MY REAR DRIVER SIDE SWAY BAR HAS COMPLETELY RUSTED OFF THE FRAME.
HI, I AM WRITING THIS LETTER IN REGARDS TO THE POTENTIAL RECALL OF THE TOYOTA 4RUNNER ROTTING FRAMES. I PURCHASED A BEAUTIFUL 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER SPORT IN OCT OF 2018 THIS SUV HAD LESS THAN 130,000 MILES, THE BODY AND INTERIOR ARE IN IMMACULATE CONDITION' I LOVED IT. THEN A FEW WEEKS LATER I TAKE IT TO A SHOP TO HAVE THE SWAY BAR BUSHINGS DONE AND FIND OUT FROM THAT SHOP THAT THE FRAME IS OVERLY RUSTED THEY STATED TOYOTA HAS A RECALL ON RUSTED FRAMES AND TELLS ME TO GO TO A TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER AND LOOK INTO IT, SO I DID THE FOLLOWING DAY AND THEY TOLD ME THEY RECALLED THE TUNDRA, SEQUOIA AND THE TACOMA BUT HAVEN'T RECALLED THE 4RUNNER THE TOYOTA SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT HE HAD A FLOOD OF 4RUNNER OWNERS BRINGING THEIR SUVS TO BE INSPECTED AND SOME WERE SO SEVERE AND THE 4RUNNERS SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED' HE RECOMMENDED THAT WE UNDERCOAT IT UNTIL A RECALL HAPPENS, SO MY HUSBAND TAKES IT AND SPENDS ABOUT 250.00 AND UNDERCOATS THE WHOLE UNDERNEATH. NOW IT HAS BEEN A YEAR OF OWNERSHIP AND WE BROUGHT OUR 4RUNNER TO A SHOP TO HAVE SOME SHOCK AND STRUT WORK DONE AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE FRAME IS OVERLY RUSTED AGAIN AND THE UNDERCOAT HAS WORN OFF AND NOW THERE ARE SEVERE CRACKS IN THE FRONT AND THE REAR OF OUR FRAME, I AM TOTALLY SICKENED AND AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS NOW. BEFORE BUYING THIS 4RUNNER I DID RESEARCH AND WAS LOOKING FOR A TOP RATED SUV THAT WAS RELIABLE AND SAFE IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE 4RUNNER WAS THERE' NOW LOOK WHAT I HAVE A VERY UNSAFE CAR NOT ONLY FOR ME BUT ALSO MY FAMILY AND TO OTHER FAMILIES THAT ARE OUT ON THE ROAD. I PURCHASED THIS SUV FOR 8,700.00 USING UP YEARS OF MONEY SAVED AND NOW IM FINDING OUT THAT I WILL NEED TO BRING IT INTO A FRAME SHOP FOR EITHER WELDING AND OR POSSIBLE FRAME REPLACEMENT.
VEHICLE IS SHOWING SIGNS OF CORROSION IN THE FRAME. THIS IS ESPECIALLY APPARENT ON THE WELD POINTS. RUE WILL EVENTUALLY CONSUME THE VEHICLE FRAME THIS MAKING IT UNDRIVABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE DEFROSTER WAS IN USE, THE REAR WINDOW EXPLODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS ISSUED FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 151,707. *LN*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S STRUCTURE WAS FLAKING AND METAL HAD DETACHED FROM THE FRAME ONTO THE DRIVEWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WHO DETERMINED THAT THE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS RUSTED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
THE BREAKS PULSE WHEN YOUR STOPPING AND THERE HAVE BEEN TWO INSTANCES WHEN I EXPERIENCED THE BREAKS UNEXPECTEDLY WENT OUT OR SLIPPED...IT'S HARD TO EXPLAIN EXACT FEELING BUT IT WAS SCARY. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON WHEN I WAS AT A STOP SIGN AT A SLIGHT HILL AND THE BREAKS MADE A STRANGE NOISE THIS HAPPENED TWICE HOWEVER THE LIGHT ONLY CAME ON THE ONE TIME. THEN WHILE DRIVING THE ABS, TRACTION, BREAK, AND ANOTHER LIGHT ALL CAME ON AT ONCE. THIS WAS JUST RANDOM WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY. ABOUT 20MIN LATER THEY WENT OUT. ALSO WHILE SETTING AT THE LIGHT OR BEING STOPPED WHILE IN GREAT THE CAR PUSHES FORWARD WHILE THE BREAK IS DEPRESSED. THESE THINGS FAVE BEEN RANDOM WHEN THE BREAKS FELT AS IF I HAD LOST THEM I WAS TURNING A CORNER AND STEPPED ON THE BREAKS WHILE IN THE TURN THEY MADE A SLIGHT NOISE AND I LET UP WHEN I FELT AS IF I WAS LOSING THEM THEN DEPRESSED AGAIN. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS IN A NORMAL STRAIGHT ROAD AND DEPRESSED THE BREAKS AND AGAIN IT FELT AS IF I HAD LOST THEM...I JERKED A LITTLE AS IT SCARED ME BEING IN TRAFFIC THEN I LET UP AND DEPRESS THEM AGAIN AND IF FELT NORMAL. AGAIN IT HAS BEEN TOTALLY RANDOM. ALSO MY TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT COMES ON QUITE FREQUENTLY AND I KEEP LOSING A LITTLE PRESSURE IN ALL TIRES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE FRAME WAS RUSTED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE SUBFRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,456. PHOTOS ATTACHED.*JB
MY VEHICLE HAS EXTENSIVE FRAME RUST ON THE RIGHT REAR LOWER TRAILING ARM MOUNT AND THE FRAME ABOVE THE THE MOUNT IS COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY. THE ONLY THING HOLDING THE FRAME TOGETHER IN THIS AREA IS THE LOWER TRAILING ARM MOUNT WELDMENT. THE FRAME BEHIND AND ABOVE THE LOWER TRAILING ARM MOUNT WELDMENT, ON THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME, IS RUSTED OUT LEAVING ONLY ABOUT HALF OF THE FRAME IN THAT AREA INTACT. THE FRAME ALSO HAS RUSTED OUT AREAS IN THE FRONT AT THE BODY MOUNTS AND FORWARD OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION. ALSO, THE REAR FUEL TANK STRAP IS COMPLETELY RUSTED APART AND THE FRONT FUEL TANK STRAP IS RUSTED. FRAME/SUSPENSION FAILURE AND FUEL TANK MOVEMENT ARE VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES THAT SHOULDN'T EXIST ON THIS VEHICLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TARBOX TOYOTA (3671 QUAKER LN, NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI 02852, (401) 884-5438) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS LEAKING AND THE FRAME WAS ROTTED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE RUST ON THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 168,595.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ATLANTIC TOYOTA (671 LYNNWAY, LYNN, MA 01905, 781-599-4922) FOR REAR BRAKE REPAIRS. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED AND HAD A HOLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 159,532. *BF*JB
EXCESSIVE FRAME RUST CAUSED BRACKET TO SNAP ON BUMPY ROADS MAKING VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. ISSUE HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH 4RUNNERS AND THIS IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF IT.
MY FRAME ON MY 4RUNNER IS SHOWING MAJOR SIGNS OF RUST A HUGE HOLE HAS FORMED RIGHT IN THE MAIN FRAME DRIVER SIDE. AND ANOTHER IN THE TRAILING ARM MOUNT ALSO DRIVER SIDE. IF MY TRAILING ARM SNAPPED LOOSE ON A DIRT ROAD IT COULD FLIP THE WHOLE CAR. IT'S ONLY 14 YEARS OLD NOW AND THIS IS WAY EXCESSIVE FOR THAT AGE AS MOST VEHICLES WILL DRIVE IN THE SALT BELT STATES FOR WAY LONGER. AS YOU KNOW THIS ISN'T THE FIRST FRAME ISSUE WITH TOYOTA. THEY REALLY SLACKED IN RUST PREVENTING. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE THING BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHEN SHE MIGHT JUST SNAP IN HALF OR WORSE IF I GET INTO AN ACCIDENT IT COULD JUST CRUMPLE LIKE A TIN CAN. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED. OTHERS HAVE SAID THEIR FRAME COMPLETELY SEPERATED IN HALF ON THE ROAD. THIS COULD KILL PEOPLE. THE PICTURE I PROVIDED IS OLD NOW THE WHOLE HAS WIDENED QUITE A BIT. I HOPE A RECALL HAPPENS SOON OTHERWISE IMNA HAVE TO PATCH IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING INSPECTED AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE FRAME. THE CONTACT ALSO TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TWO OTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANICS TO GET REFERRALS AND OTHER OPINIONS ON THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE TO THE FRAME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 178,000.
ON MY WAY TO MY NIECES BIRTHDAY I DROVE OVER TO A LOCAL PARK. ON MY WAY THERE I DROVE OVER A POT HOLE AS I WAS CUT OFF BY ANOTHER DRIVER AND COULDN'T AVOID IT I HEAR A LOUD NOISE FROM THE REAR AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SWAY LEFT AND RIGHT AS I DROVE. I DIDN'T FEEL TO SAFE DRIVING IT AND I WAS A SHORT DISTANCE AWAY FROM MY HOME I DROVE BACK WITH THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON. I THEN PROCEEDED TO INSPECT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT MY UPPER RIGHT CONTROL ARM BRACKET HAD RIPPED OFF THE FRAME !!!! I WAS VERY ALARMED AND SURPRISED TO SEE AS HOW MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 76000 MILES ON IT. THE AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE FRAME OF THE VECHICLE. I HAVE OWN VEHICLES FAR MORE OLDER WITH MORE MILES THAT HAVE NEVER RUSTED TO THIS EXTENT.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED FROM A DEALER IN 2014 WITH LOW MILES ON IT AND IT APPEARED TO BE IN GREAT SHAPE. THE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS SPRAYED WITH WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A COATING TO PROTECT AGAINST RUST. I REALIZE NOW THE DEALER WAS PROBABLY TRYING TO HIDE THE RUST PROBLEMS. THE COATING FLAKED OFF A SHORT TIME LATER AND EVER SINCE, I TOO HAVE BEEN PLAGUED BY THE FRAME AND OTHER COMPONENT RUST PROBLEMS. HAD TO REPLACE THE EXHAUST, RUNNING BOARDS, SWAY BAR AND SEVERAL OTHER THINGS THAT ALL RUSTED OFF ON THE UNDERCARRIAGE. MY SKID PLATES ARE ABOUT TO FALL OFF NEXT. JUST HAD MY BRAKES REPLACED AND THE SHOP NOTICED A COUPLE AREAS WHERE FRAME NOW HAS HOLES THROUGH IT AND SAYS IT LIKELY WON'T PASS STATE INSPECTION WHICH WILL BE COMING DUE SOON. THE RUST PROBLEMS WITH THESE 4RUNNERS SEEMS LIKE A BIG PROBLEM THAT TOYOTA SHOULD ADDRESS. I'M GOING TO HAVE TO PUT A BUNCH MORE MONEY INTO FIXING THIS VEHICLE OR BE LEFT WITH A WORTHLESS PIECE OF JUNK I CAN'T DRIVE AND WILL BE TAKING A BIG LOSS ON.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY USING MY REAR DEFROSTER WHEN MY BACK WINDOW SHATTERED WITHOUT CAUSE, IT SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT. THE SHOCK CAUSED ME AND THE DRIVER BEHIND ME TO BOTH SWERVE ALMOST CAUSING TWO WRECKS.
I RECENTLY EXPERIENCED A BLOWOUT OF A TIRE STILL IN LIKE NEW CONDITION. I MAINTAIN ACCURATE AIR PRESSURE AT ALL TIMES AND CHECK THEM OFTEN. I ALSO HAD NOT DAMAGED THE TIRE IN ANY WAY. NO HOLES. NO REPAIRS. IT WAS LIKE NEW IN EVERY RESPECT. I WAS TRAVELING AT THE RATED SPEED LIMIT OF 70MPH ON AN INTERSTATE WHEN AT FIRST I HEARD A NOISE AND THEN FELT VIBRATIONS, AND THEN THE BACK OF VEHICLE SWAYED A LITTLE FROM SIDE TO SIDE. I BACKED OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND PULLED OVER OFF THE ROAD SAFELY. I FOUND THAT THE TREAD SECTION OF THE TIRE HAD TORN AWAY FROM THE SIDEWALL. AND UPON FURTHER EXAMINATION I COULD CLEARLY SEE WHY. THE THICKNESS OF THE RUBBER CONNECTING THE TREAD TO THE SIDEWALL WAS LESS THAN A 1/4" THICK ON ONE SIDE OF THE TIRE, WHILE DIRECTLY ACROSS 180 DEGREES ON THE OTHER SIDE IT WAS CLOSER TO A HALF INCH IN THICKNESS. THE THINNER PORTION OF RUBBER ON THE ONE SIDE WAS SIMPLY NOT THICK ENOUGH, NOR STRONG ENOUGH TO HOLD THE TIRE TOGETHER AT HIGHWAY ROTATIONAL SPEEDS AND IT SIMPLY CAME APART. WALMART SAID THEY WOULD REPLACE THE TIRE, BUT I AM STILL VERY CONCERNED NOW ABOUT THE OTHER 3 TIRES ON MY SUV PURCHASED AT THE SAME TIME AS THIS DEFECTIVE TIRE. ***ADDED: I TRIED CALLING NHTSA AND THE PERSON WHO ANSWERED THE PHONE WAS VERY CONTROLLING, UNPLEASANT, RUDE, AND HUNG UP WHEN I TOLD THEM THEY WERE NOT LISTENING TO WHAT I SAID. SHE INSISTED I USE A PRINTER OR GO GET ONE, OR RUN TO THE LIBRARY AND JUMP THROUGH A BUNCH OF HOOPS FOR THEM. I TOLD HER THAT WILL NOT BE HAPPENING. THIS WEBSITE SHOULD BE RUN CORRECTLY SO WE THE PEOPLE CAN PUT THE CORRECT INFORMATION INTO IT RATHER THAN BE TOLD TO PUT INCORRECT INFORMATION INTO IT. I TRIED TYPING IN THE CORRECT BRAND AND TIRE SERIES, AND THIS WEBSITE WILL ONLY ACCEPT THE INCORRECT INFORMATION WHICH MAKES NO SENSE, BUT IT IS GOVERNMENT AFTER ALL AND THAT MEANS INCOMPETENT AND AUTHORITARIAN EVEN WHEN WRONG AND RUDE! A DISSERVICE TO CITIZENS. CORRECT TIRE FOR THIS COMPLAINT: ANTARES SMT A7, AND NOT COMFORT A5.
'06 4RUNNER THAT THE FRAME IS COMPLETELY SHOT. IT STARTED BY HAVING TO REPLACE THE BALL JOINTS AND TIE ROD ENDS PREMATURELY AND NOW THE WHOLE VEHICLE SITS 3 INCHES LOWER ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE REST OF THE VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
TOYOTA 4RUNNER FRAME RUST. I JUST GOT BACK FROM THE STATE INSPECTION AND THEY SAID THE 4RUNNER WOULD NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION IN ONE YEAR. THE FRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH IN SOME AREAS. THE FRAME NEEDS TO BE FIXED OR REPLACED. LETTER FROM SENATOR MANCHIN III ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT, REQUESTING ASSISTANCE WITH HER EFFORTS TO REPORT DAMAGE AFFECTING THE DRIVING SAFETY OF HER TOYOTA 4-RUNNER (ATTN: ANGIE WALSH). *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE WAS RUSTED. *JS *JS
I WAS DRIVING HOME ON A SUBURBAN ROAD GOING ABOUT 25 MPH AND TOOK A CORNER WHICH FELT LIKE I HAD HIT SNOW OR ICE, HOWEVER CONDITIONS WERE OPTIMAL. THE FISHTAILING CONTINUED AND I PARKED MY CAR AS IT DID NOT FEEL SAFE TO DRIVE. WHEN THE MECHANIC LOOKED AT IT HE SAID I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND POSSIBLY A ROLL HAD I TAKEN IT ON THE HIGHWAY. THE FRAME WAS CRACKED. WE ALSO HAD ALREADY REPLACED THE SUSPENSION ON THIS VEHICLE, AND THE EXHAUST FELL OFF ON THE HIGHWAY THE YEAR PRIOR DUE TO RUST. THE UNDERBODY OF THE CAR IS EXCESSIVELY RUSTED.
MY WIFE'S 4RUNNER STARTED TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH EXTENSIVE BODY ROLL DURING ACCELERATION, BRAKING, AND BUMPS. IT MADE IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN IT'S OWN LANE ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THINKING THE PROBLEM WAS THE FRONT AND REAR SHOCKS I STARTED THE PROCESS OF REPLACING THEM. WHEN I WENT TO INSTALL THE REAR SHOCKS I NOTICED THE THE ACTUAL CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WAS THE FACT THAT THE FRAME HAD RUSTED THROUGH TO THE POINT THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS NO LONGER ATTACHED. I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE THAT JUST HAPPENS OVERTIME BUT THEN I REALIZE THAT THE RUST ON THE FRAMES ON MY OTHER CARS WAS NOT AS SUBSTANTIAL ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING ONE OF THEM WAS MANUFACTURED IN 1992.
THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE RUSTED EXHAUST SYSTEM TODAY AND ADVISED ME TO GET RID OF THIS VEHICLE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AS IT WOULD NOT BE SAFE TO OPERATE IN LESS THAN A YEAR DUE HEAVY AND UNUSUAL FLAKING RUST ON THE FRAME AND OTHER UNDERCARRIAGE PARTS.
FRAME OF 4RUNNER IS ALMOST COMPLETELY RUSTED OFF, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON FRAME. IT IS A SFTY ISSUE.
THE ROOF RUBBER STRIP ON THE DRIVER SIDE CAME FLYING OFF WHEN MY SUV TRUCK WAS UNDER THE AIR DRYER IN THE CAR WASH ON 03/31/2019. I HEARD A HORRIBLE THUMPING SOUND ON THE ROOF OF MY CAR AND NOTICED THERE WAS A RUBBER STRIP ON THE GROUND AND FOUND THAT THE ROOF RUBBER STRIP ON THE DRIVER SIDE WAS MISSING. I DON'T KNOW IF THE STRIPS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE GLUED WITH SOME KIND OF ADHESIVE OR NOT, AS I'VE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS BEFORE WITH ANY CAR I'VE OWNED. I THINK IT IS LUDICROUS THAT A WELL-MEANING CAR OWNER CAN'T TAKE HIS OR HER CAR TO THE CAR WASH WITHOUT PARTS FLYING OFF THE CAR. I'M JUST GRATEFUL THAT THIS RUBBER STRIP WAS NOT FLYING OFF ON THE FREEWAY AS IT MAY FLY OFF EVEN MORE WHILE YOU ARE ON THE HIGHWAYS.
HEAVY RUST ON FRAME. FOUND A HOLE ON MAIN BODY FRAME THIS WEEKEND WHILE AT WORK ON MY CAR LIFT.
DURING REPLACEMENT OF FRONT BRAKES WHEN VEHICLE WAS ON A LIFT THE MECHANIC POINTED-OUT SEVERE FRAME RUST AND SAID THE TRUCK WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION IN PENNSYLVANIA. THERE WERE LARGE HOLES IN SEVERAL AREAS OF THE FRAME. THIS IS A 2006 MODEL WITH ONLY 85,000 MILES OF USAGE.
THE FRAME IS RUSTED BAD IN FRONT OF LEFT REAR WHEEL WHILE THE REST OF VEHICLE LOOKS NEW.
REAR WINDOW SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED WITH LOUD POP IN AN ALARMING FASHION WHILE DRIVING DOWN FREEWAY WITH DEFOGGER ON. APPEARS TO BE ISSUE COVERED IN TOYOTA T-SB-0189-17.
I NOTICED THAT THE FRAME OF MY 06 4RUNNER HAS BEGUN TO CORRODE SEVERELY. THERE ARE HOLES IN THE FRAME THAT POSE A SEVERE SAFETY THREAT AND I'M CONCERNED THAT THE WHOLE FRAME COULD GIVE OUT AT ANY TIME. TOYOTA RECALLED TACOMA'S FROM THE SAME TIMESPAN DUE TO FRAME ISSUES YET THE 4RUNNERS WERE LEFT OFF... THE TRUCK IS IN PRISTINE CONDITION BESIDES THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE. TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE AND RECALL THEM BEFORE LIVES ARE LOST. THE SUSPENSION DEFINITELY DOESN'T FEEL RIGHT AND WHEN BUMPS OR POTHOLES IN THE ROAD ARE HIT THE VEHICLE FEELS AS IF IT'S BEING JERKED FROM SIDE TO SIDE. PLEASE CONTINUE YOUR INVESTIGATION ON THE FRAMES OF THE 4RUNNERS AND GET TOYOTA TO RECALL THEM.
PURCHASED MY 4RUNNER CERTIFIED USED BY MODERN TOYOTA OF BOONE IN FEB 2012. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TOYOTA THE NEXT YEAR LOCALLY AND THEY MENTIONED THAT I HAVE SEVERE FRAME RUST BUT BY THIS TIME THE WARRANTY HAS ALREADY EXPIRED. FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA REGARDING FRAME RUST AND THE FACT THAT I WAS SOLD THE VEHICLE AND IT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CERTIFIED BY TOYOTA BECAUSE OF THE FRAME RUST. HAD AN ACCIDENT IN JUN 2018, HIGH FRONT END HIT, SHOULDN'T HAVE HAD ANY ISSUES WITH THE FRAME AND IT WASN'T CHECKED FOR INTEGRITY, BUT AFTER SOME VIBRATIONS AND WOBBLING AND DECREASED STABILITY ON THE HIGHWAY, TOOK TO MY LOCAL DEALER AND THE TECH DID A VISUAL INSPECTION AND SAID THE FRAME WAS BENT. AWAITING AN APPT FROM BODYSHOP TO VERIFY FINDINGS EVEN THOUGH INSURANCE ALREADY CLOSED THE CLAIM FROM ACCIDENT BUT INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATES THAT THE FRAME MAY REALLY BE BENT DUE TO THE RUSTING AND THE ABILITY TO FLEX BECAUSE OF THE CORROSION, WEAKENED. VEHICLE FEELS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND IS LEANING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT AND BACK EVEN WITH NEW FACTORY TOYOTA SUSPENSION (STRUTS AND SHOCKS). THERE IS NO REASON FOR THIS VEHICLE TO BE LEANING OR THE FRAME TO BE RUSTING AS IT IS.
SEVERE FRAME RUST WHERE THE SUSPENSION AND BODY CONNECT TO THE FRAME. VERY SIMILAR TO THE TOYOTA TACOMA FRAMES I SEE AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND ARE BEING SENT TO SCRAP. VERY SCARY!
I TURNED ON THE REAR DEFROST IN THE HIGHWAY. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES, I STARTED TO SMELL A SLIGHT BURNING SMELL. BACKGLASS WAS EXPLODED WITH MY 3 YEARS KID. I CALLED TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THE WARRANTY IS EXPIRED.
DESPITE HAVING PREVIOUSLY TREATED MY UNDERCARRIAGE WITH RUST-PROOF SPRAYS NUMEROUS TIMES, MY MECHANIC HAS TOLD ME THAT MY TOYOTA IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND IT DID NOT RECEIVE AN INSPECTION STICKER DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. IN ADDITION TO THE COMPLETE RUSTING THE MY XREAS SHOCK/SUSPENSION SYSTEM (A $3,000 FIX), RUST DAMAGE HAS SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE UNDERCARRIAGE, RENDERING MANY THIN SPOTS BENEATH CRUMBLING FLAKES. WHILE DRIVING I HAVE NOTICED A RUMBLING FEELING BENEATH THE FRONT END AND THE DRIVING WHEEL SHAKES FURIOUSLY AT TIMES. MY MECHANIC HAS SAID THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM HAS BEEN COMPROMISED AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED, AND RUST IS COMPROMISING OTHER STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS.
MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF RUST ALL THROUGHOUT THE FRAME HAVE LED TO WEAKENED OR NON- EXISTENT METAL IN MANY LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE NEAR ENTIRETY OF THE FRAME OF THE 4RUNNER. HAD A MECHANIC STATE THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE 'GOTTEN RID OF' OR THAT I SHOULD BE 'OK WITH THE VEHICLE BREAKING CATASTROPHICALLY SOMETIME IN THE NEAR FUTURE' BECAUSE OF THE WEAKENED AND DEGRADED STATE OF THE FRAME.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET WE SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. WE PULLED OVER TO A VACANT PARKING LOT AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK, BEFORE WE COULD GET OF THE CAR THE BACK WINDOW EXPLODED INTO LOTS OF SMALL PIECES. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT BECAUSE GLASSED LANDED IN THE BACK SEAT AS WELL AS THE PARKING LOT. WE NOTICED THAT THE DEFROST BUTTON WAS ON AT THE TIME OF THE EXPLOSION. THE WEATHER WAS COOL AT APPROX. 47 DEGREES ON JANUARY 3, 2019 AROUND 8:45 PM. I DID GET THE GLASS REPLACED BY SAFELITE. THE WINDOW INSTALLER CONFIRMED THAT THE WIRES FOR THE DEFROSTER HAD MELTED. I DID CALL TOYOTA TO REPORT THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY SAID IT WAS BEYOND THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM DEADLINE OF APRIL 30, 2018. CLEARLY TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY DID OFFER PRIOR TO APRIL 30, 2018 AN EXTENDED PROGRAM THAT WOULD HELP TO REIMBURSE CUSTOMERS WHOSE WINDOW EXPLODED. NO RECALLS WERE PROVIDED FOR POSSIBLE WINDOW EXPLOSIONS FOR 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNERS.
TOOK MY 4RUNNER IN TO GET A NEW MUFFLER SINCE IT STARTED TO RUST OFF AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FRAME IS RUSTING OUT AND HAS A FEW SMALL RUST HOLES THAT CAR WILL NOT BE GOOD FOR MUCH LONGER.
THE FRAME IS ABNORMALLY RUSTED TO THE POINT ON PERFERATION IN SEVERAL LOCATIONS MAKING IT UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
FRAME IS VERY RUSTED AND WILL NOT PASS NY STATE INSPECTION, SENT PICTURES TO TOYOTA AND RECEIVED NO HOPE OF HELP. BASCIALLY TOLD ME TO CALL JUNK YARD. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 96,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN MAINTAINED BY TOYOTA.
STRUCTURAL - FRAME RUST. TOYOTA HAS NOT RECALLED THE 4RUNNER DUE TO FRAME RUST EXPERIENCED ON THE TACOMA. ATTACHED ARE PICTURES OF UNDERBODY. THIS VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION AND I AM LOCATED IN CALIFORNIA WHERE LAWS ARE STRICT.
ST LAST YEAR, TOYOTA SETTLED A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT INVOLVING APPROXIMATELY 1.5 MILLION TACOMA, TUNDRA AND SEQUOIA TRUCKS ALSO BUILT ON A FRAME1 ' TOYOTA AGREED TO INSPECT AND REPLACE THE FRAMES AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $3.4 BILLION. THIS CONFIRMS FRAME CORROSION IS A PROBLEM WELL-KNOWN TO TOYOTA AND THE PUBLIC.
2006 4RUNNER WITH 165K MILES WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION DUE TO EXCESSIVE FRAME RUST. I PURCHASED THIS BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALER AND HAVE TAKEN EXCELLENT CARE OF IT. THERE IS NO RUST ON THE BODY. THE RUST IS EXCESSIVE FOR OTHER SIMILAR VEHICLES FROM OTHER MANUFACTURES. TOYOTA HAS REPLACED SIMILAR FRAMES ON THEIR TACOMA MODELS BUT HAVE DONE NOTHING FOR 2006 4RUNNER OWNERS.
REAR WINDOW EXPLODES AND SHATTERS SENDING GLASS PIECES AND RAZOR SHARP TINY GLASS SHARDS THROUGHOUT THE BACK COMPARTMENT WITH SOME PIECES MAKING IT TO THE BACK SEAT. SUSPECTED CAUSE IS RELATED TO USE OF THE REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER. OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH ON A HIGHWAY IN RAINY WEATHER. OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE AROUND 40F INSIDE TEMPERATURE AROUND 70F. LETTER TO TOYOTA ALONG WITH REPAIR INVOICES ARE ATTACHED TO THIS COMPLAINT.
OUR FRAME IS RUSTED SO BADLY THAT IT WOULD HAVE FAILED THE SAFETY INSPECTION IF WE DID NOT FIX THE HUGE HOLES IN IT AT THE REAR BUMPER. WE ARE WERE TOLD BY OUR SAFETY INSPECTOR THAT OUR ENTIRE FRAME IS VERY RUSTY AND WE MUST DO SOMETHING TO FIX IT RIGHT NOW. IT WILL NOT PASS THE SAFETY INSPECTION FOR NEXT YEAR. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BY TOYOTA AS PART OF THEIR FRAME RECALL!
WAS INFORMED YESTERDAY BY OUR MECHANIC WHO WAS PERFORMING AN OIL CHANGE THAT THIS VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS NEXT INSPECTION DUE TO FRAME RUST AND CORROSION. I HAVE NOT TAKEN PICTURES BUT CAN IF NEEDED.
VEHICLE BODY IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. WOULD NOT PASS PA INSPECTION WITHOUT FRAME WELDING. OTHER SUSPENSION BARS AND FRAME ISSUES ALSO AS A RESULT OF RUST. OVER $4000 TO FIX THE ISSUE.
CAR HAS 99,400 MILES, WOULD NOT PASS PA STATE INSP DUE TO RUST HOLES ON FRAME

THE FRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH IN A COUPLE OF PLACES ON MY 4RUNNER. MY LOCAL DEALER DID AN INSPECTION AND THERE ARE HOLES RUSTED THROUGH THE FRAME. I'M AFRAID IN AN ACCIDENT THAT THE FRAME WILL NOT HOLD UP AND CAUSE INJURY TO MY OCCUPANTS AND MYSELF. PLEASE INFORM TOYOTA OF THESE RUSTED FRAMES. THANK YOU!
