TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, WHICH LOCATED A FAILURE CODE AT THE COMPUTER SOFTWARE. THE MECHANIC DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND ATTEMPTED TO RESET THE COMPUTER SOFTWARE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 134,000.
THE FRAME IS RUSTED OUT. MY MECHANIC SAID IT WILL NOT BE INSPECTABLE.
COLLISION INVOLVING FRONT OF CAR AT 50 MPH (ON HIGHWAY) DID NOT ACTIVATE THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG FOR FRONT IMPACT.
TAKATA RECALL: THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVER AND PASSAGE DON'T STAY UP ANY MORE. KEEP FALLING.
MY SUV WAS HIT ON THE SIDE ON THE STOP SIGH BUT I LOST CONTROL OF THE VIHICLE AND I HIT A LIGHT POLE THE SUV FRONT WAS DAMAGE THE SUV WAS TOTAL LOSS. THE AIR BAG DO NOT DEPLOYED.
MELTED BLACK BACK DOOR LIFT GATE RELEASE SWITCH. PART#84840-35010 DEALER SAID IT WAS SHORTED OUT THAT CAUSED IT TO MELT AND BECOME STICKY.
I HAVE A TOYOTA 4RUNNER SR5 2007 4X4 V6 WITH ABOUT 90K AND SEEM TO HAVE DEVELOPED THE RUMBLE STRIP ISSUE AS WELL. I AM CURIOUS IF THE OP HAS GOTTEN ANY TRACTION ON GETTING ANYTHING FIGURED OUT. IT SEEMS LIKE IT MUST BE THE "LOCK UP" FEATURE OF THE TORQUE CONVERTER IN 4TH AND 5TH GEARS. THE VIBRATION COMES ON AT THE END OF 3RD GEAR WHEN THE RPMS ARE ABOUT 2K OR SO. THEN AGAIN AS IT TRIES TO SHIFT UP TO 5TH. IN OUR CASE AS WELL, PUTTING THE TRANS IN '4' INSTEAD OF 'D' TOTALLY ELIMINATES THE PROBLEM. I WONDER IF SOME SORT OF REFLASH COULD FIX THINGS. MY CURRENT PLAN IS TO DOUBLE CHECK THE LEVEL ON THE FLUID AND BE SURE THE ZERKS ARE ALL LUBE UP. IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT THIS HAS COME UP AS WE LOVE THE CAR OTHERWISE. IF SOMETHING DOES NEED FIXING, I AM IN NO HURRY TO HEAD TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND I AM AFRAID THAT A MORE LOCAL TYPE TRANSMISSION SHOP WILL NOT HAVE MUCH EXPERIENCE WITH THESE NEW SUPER FANCY SEALED TRANSMISSIONS. I HOPE THAT I AM WRONG.
BACK DOOR LATCH HAS BECOME A STICKY MESS. WHEN OPENING, A TAR LIKE SUBSTANCE GETS ALL OVER YOUR FINGERS.
THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A TOWN 2 LANE HIGHWAY, SPEED LIMIT 40, GOOG WEATHER, WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY TURNED TO THE LEFT AND MADE A LOUD BEEPING NOISE. I TURNED IT BACK TO GAIN CONTROL AND RETURN TO THE CORRECT LINE OF TRAVEL. BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER WHERE SYSTEM TESTS WERE PERFORMED PER TOYOTA AND NOTHING WAS FOUND TO BE WRONG. THIS HAD HAPPENED BEFORE.
MY 2007 TOYOTA 4-RUNNER HAS A SERIOUS DRIVE SHAFT JOLT AND CLUNK THAT OCCURS WHENEVER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LURCH. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS AT APPROXIMATELY 6500 MILES IN MY SIX YEAR. TOYOTA HAS BEEN INFORMED OF THIS SEVERAL TIMES AND REFUSES TO TAKE ACTION. APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS AGO, THE VEHICLE DID THIS ON THE FREEWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LUNGE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. TOYOTA WAS AGAIN NOTIFIED OF THIS AND REFUSED TO TAKE ACTION. ADDITIONALLY MY 4 RUNNER IS SUDDENLY GETTING THE "VSC TRAC" AND "VSC OFF" LIGHTS IN THE DASH AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS, WHICH ACCORDING TO TOYOTA OWN MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES PROCEDURE AS DESCRIBED IN TSB BR001-04 TO SOLVE THE "VSC TRAC" AND "VSC OFF" LIGHTS AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS, THE 4 RUNNER ONLY REQUIRES THE TOYOTA OBDII TESTER WHICH TAKES ONLY ABOUT 5 MINUTES TO DO, FOR A SIMPLE CALIBRATION MATTER, OF TELLING THE 4RUNNER VSC/TRAC COMPUTER "THE YAW RATE AND DECELERATION RATE ARE CURRENTLY ZERO" AND TO SAVE THE ASSOCIATED VALUES. THEN THE OUTPUT FROM THE SENSORS CAN BE INTERPRETED CORRECTLY. I HAVE GONE TO THREE DEALERS AND ALL WANT TO CHARGE ME IN EXCESS OF $600.00. THE LAST DEALER CONTACTED MADE ME COME IN, AND AFTER 35 MINUTES BILL ME FOR BASIC OIL CHANGE IN AMOUNT OF $74.00, AND SAID I SHOULD NOT WORRY ABOUT THE LIGHTS WHICH CONTINUE TO SHOW ON THE DASH. INDEED THIS IS RIP OFF BY BOTH TOYOTA AND ITS DELERSHIPS.
THE BRAKING SYSTEM VIBRATES AND SQUEALS WHEN DRIVING AND BRAKING... TOLD THE ABS/MASTER CYLINDER SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $3082.25. STARTED NOTICING PROBLEMS AT ABOUT 128000 MILES ON VEHICLE. DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT THAT THERE IS A MAJOR MALFUNCTION/REPAIR NEEDED WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE
SEVERE RUST PROBLEM ON THE FRAME/HITCH/REAR HATCH. WE WERE ADVISED NOT TO USE THE REAR HITCH DUE TO THE RUST AND THAT IT COULD COME LOOSE WHEN TOWING..
THE DASHBOARD ALARM SOUNDED AND THE ABS, VSC, BRAKE, AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. FULLY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. DEALER DIAGNOSED A FAILED MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY.
THE RUBBER ON THE INSIDE THE TAILGATE HANDLE HAS MELTED AND ERODED. IT IS STICKY TO THE TOUCH AND CONSISTS OF A BLACK TAR-LIKE SUBSTANCE. YEAR ROUND THE HANDLE IS DIFFICULT TO LATCH. THIS IS AN OBVIOUSLY FAULTY PART, AND SHOULD BE REPLACED AS THE MANUFACTURER IS WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. I HEARD THAT TOYOTA SHIPPED A PUNCH OF FAULTY DOOR OPENERS LIKE THIS IN 2006.
I HAVE AN INSURMOUNTABLE LEVEL OF RUST ON THE FRAME AND SURROUNDING COMPONENTS. THERE SHOULD NOT BE THIS LEVEL OF RUST AT THIS POINT ON THE VEHICLE'S LIFE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT AND ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR A SECOND OPINION, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000.

THIS MAY POSE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE SHOULD THE TAILGATE OPEN WHILE TRANSPORTING CARGO ON THE ROAD. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS FAULTY PART ON THE VEHICLE. UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS MODEL YEAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, IT SHOULD STILL BE CORRECTED AS THE MANUFACTURER IS WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. *TR
VEHICLE PURCHASED USED JULY 2011 W/ 45K MILES. IN MAY 2012 AT 55K HAD BRAKES REPAIRED, ALL 4 WHEELS NEW ROTORS PADS AND HARDWARE. IN 2014 NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM CALIPER AND DISCOLORING WHEELS. DEALER SERVICE VERIFIED FRONT CALIPERS FROZEN (GUIDE PINS AND PADS RUSTED IN PLACE AS WELL AS CALIPER PISTONS). THIS APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW AS THE CALIPER DOES NOT INCORPORATE ANY PROTECTIVE BOOT FOR THE GUIDE PINS OR ANY INTERFACE BETWEEN THE PAD SHOE AND THE CALIPER BODY. THE CALIPER BODY AND GUIDE PIN APPEAR TO BE EASILY OXIDIZED, A FACT THAT TOYOTA ATTRIBUTES TO "ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS". APPARENTLY TOYOTA DESIGNS FOR THE MILDEST CONDITIONS RATHER THAN THE HARSHEST. ODDLY, IT IS ONLY THE FRONT CALIPER WITH THIS DESIGN: THE REAR CALIPER INCORPORATES A MORE MODERN DESIGN WITH A BOOT FOR THE GUIDE BOLT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING WITH MY ENTIRE FAMILY ON I-95, THE VEHICLE ABS ASSEMBLY BEGAN CYCLING REPEATEDLY. WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKES WHILE THE ABS WAS CYCLING, THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GRIND AND SLIPPAGE OCCURRED IN THE PEDAL PRESSURE. NO WARNING LIGHTS. *TR
OVER THE PAST 9-12 MONTHS I HAVE OWNED THE 4RUNNER, I HAVE NOTICED THE FLOORMATS SLIDE UP BEHIND THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATION PEDAL WHEN I AM CONSTANTLY SWITCHING BETWEEN THE TWO (EG. HEAVY TRAFFIC, LONG TRIPS, ETC.). I USUALLY AM ABLE TO PULL THEM BACK DOWN AT A STOPLIGHT OR STOP SIGN; HOWEVER, ON TUESDAY, JULY 29TH, I WAS INVOLVED IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT THAT WAS NOT ONLY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, BUT WHILE ON A 200+ MILE TRIP AS WELL. I BELIEVE THAT THE FLOOR MAT CAUSED MY CAR TO HAVE LIMITED BRAKING ABILITY IN ADDITION TO POSSIBLE INCREASED ACCELERATION. THE NHTSA'S FINDINGS SEEM TO BE CONSISTENT WITH THIS. ADDITIONALLY, THE COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10384563 STATES THAT "I PUSHED ON THE BRAKE... BUT THE CAR CONTINUED ACCELERATING" AND THEN "TOYOTA INSPECTED THE VEHICLE... AND SAID THEY ADJUSTED THE MAT" IS ONE OF MANY THAT HAVE FINDINGS CONSISTENT WITH THE MALFUNCTION THAT CAUSED MY WRECK. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE FAILED TO ENGAGE WHEN PROMPTED AND THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL VACUUM ACTUATOR AND T-CASE ACTUATOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FRACTURED AND WAS MAKING AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL HAD FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,412.
NOTICED RUST ON FRAME FEW YEARS AGO BUT THE DEALER SAID TOYOTA WILL NOT DO A ANYTHING. IF TACOMA IS BEING RECALLED, 4 RUNNER SHOULD BE SINCE IT IS BUILD ON THE SAME FRAME. *DT*JB
HANDLE/LOCK ON REAR HATCH IS FAULTY. MECHANISM ON THE HANDLE/LOCK OF THE REAR HATCH OF 2007 TOYOTA 4RUNNER WILL NO LONGER ENGAGE TO ALLOW HATCH TO BE OPENED. PROBLEM HAD BEEN INTERMITTENT, NOW IS MORE PROBLEMATIC. CANNOT OPEN REAR HATCH TO ACCESS THE CARGO AREA OF VEHICLE. DEALER SERVICE DEPT ACKNOWLEDGES THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE. LOTS OF SIMILAR ISSUES FOUND ONLINE. THIS HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ISSUE YET. *TR
THE LIFT GATE HANDLE IS STICKY AND LEAVE BLACK RESIDUE ON FINGERS. WHEN YOU LOOK AT IT LOOKS LIKE IT IS MELTED. I THINK IT IS A REAL PROBLEM. I'M RESEARCH HOW TO REPAIR, BUT ONCE I'VE BEEN ON THIS SITE I SEE THERE ARE OTHERS WITH THIS ISSUE. I THINK TOYOTA NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. *TR
THE TRUNK LATCH TO OPEN THE DOOR IS INCREDIBLY STICKY AND LEAVES A BLACK RESIDUE ON MY HANDS. WHEN I TRY TO OPEN IT NOW THAT IT'S COLDER IT WON'T OPEN. I'M AFRAID IF THERE IS EVER AN EMERGENCY I WON'T BE ABLE TO GET IN. *TR
VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON SHOULDER OF ROAD, ENGINE RUNNING, WHILST ADJUSTING THE MOBILE GPS (HENCE THE REASON FOR STOPPING). AT FIRST SMOKE WAS COMING UP AROUND/THROUGH CENTER CONSOLE (BETWEEN DRIVER'S SEAT AND PASSENGER FRONT SEAT) AND THEN FLAMES. THE INTERIOR OF PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WAS TOTALLY BURNED OUT IN SPITE OF PROMPT RESPONSE BY EMERGENCY CREW. STATE FARM INSURANCE HAS NATURALLY BEEN NOTIFIED ALTHOUGH I HARDLY SEE WHY STATE FARM SHOULD PAY AND NOT TOYOTA. SURELY THERE MUST HAVE BEEN SOMETHING WRONG WITH ELECTRICAL WIRING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS USED IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER ABS ECU ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
MACHINES BREAK BUT WHEN PARTS REPRESENT A RISK OF FATALITY, THEY SHOULD BE MORE CLOSELY SCRUTINIZED. I GOT LUCKY WHEN THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY WENT OUT IN MY 2007 TOYOTA 4RUNNER WHILE IT WAS PARKED AND RUNNING IN MY GARAGE FOR 5 MINUTES WHILE I UNLOADED IT. HAD I NOT MADE THE DECISION TO LET THE CAR RUN WHILE I UNLOADED IT, A DECISION THAT I FIRST QUESTIONED, IT MORE THAN LIKELY WOULD'VE GONE OUT THE FOLLOWING MORNING WHEN I PULLED OUT OF MY STEEPLY SLOPED DRIVEWAY. A DROP OF ABOUT 10-15 FEET IS DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM MY DRIVEWAY AND THERE IS NOTHING TO STOP ANYTHING FROM ROLLING DOWN THAT DROP BESIDES THE MULTITUDE OF HARDWOODS THERE. I COULD'VE BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE OR TRAVERSING THE HILLS AND SLOPES THAT WE DEAL WITH DAILY. A PARKING BRAKE WILL ONLY DO SO MUCH. MY 4RUNNER IS WELL-MAINTAINED. IN FACT, IT HAD RECEIVED IT'S REGULAR MAINTENANCE ONLY 5 DAYS PRIOR TO THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY'S FAILURE. THERE WAS NO WARNING;NO NOISE, NO FEELING, NO WEIRD BEHAVIOR-JUST BUZZERS AND WARNING LIGHTS AFTER THE FACT. THE CAR ALMOST ROLLED THROUGH THE GARAGE DOOR AS WELL AS THE HOUSE. IT TOOK ALL OF MY MIGHT TO STOP IT AT 1-3 MPH. I AM GRATEFUL FOR WHAT DID NOT HAPPEN BUT CONCERNED ABOUT ANY OTHER UNSUSPECTING 4RUNNER OWNER AND ANYONE AROUND THAT 4RUNNER IF THE SAME HAPPENS. I'VE BEEN HAPPY WITH MY 4RUNNER AND FELT SAFE IN IT UNTIL JULY 21. IT IS MY THIRD 4RUNNER IN A ROW. THEY ARE FANTASTIC SUV'S. I HAVE A GREAT RELATIONSHIP WITH MY DEALERSHIP, ESPECIALLY MY SERVICE TECH, WHO I FEEL LOOKS OUT FOR ME AND MY 4RUNNER. BUT AFTER RESEARCHING BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLIES IN 4RUNNERS, I SEE MULTIPLE CRASHES AND SCARY STORIES INVOLVING THIS PART. I SEE IT IS UNRELATED TO MILEAGE OR MAINTENANCE OR VEHICLE AGE. IT'S HAPPENED AT 2MONTHS OLD, 2 YEARS OLD, 200K MILES. THE RISK OF FATALITY IS TOO HIGH TO LET THIS ISSUE REMAIN UNATTENDED TO. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000. *TR
THE BACK DOOR RUBBER COVER OF THE HANDLE WAS MELTED FOR SECOND TIME, THE FIRST TIME WAS ON JUNE 26,2009 AND ITS WAS CHANGE BY GUARANTEE FOR THE DEALER. NOW I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM THE RUBBER WAS MELTED. THE PART NUMBER IS 84840-35010. I THINK THAT TOYOTA NEED TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM WITH A GOOD QUALITY RUBBER. *TR

THE REAR HATCH DOOR HANDLE TURNED INTO A MELTED RUBBER/PLASTIC MESS. OUR HANDS ARE COVERED WITH BLACK MELTED RUBBER TYPE MATERIAL WHENEVER WE TRY TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH. AFTER ONLINE RESEARCH, I SEE THERE ARE ALLOT OF OTHER TOYOTA 4 RUNNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE PART IS CALLED, SWITCH ASSEMBLY, BACK PART #84840-35010. NO DOUBT THAT THE PART IS FAULTY. *TR
I COME TO A STOP AND MY VEHICLE PULLS, LIKE SOMEBODY HIT MY VEHICLE FROM BEHIND. ITS CONSTANT , IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. I DID TAKE IT TO A DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE, THEY ADVISED TOYOTA HAD NOT COME OUT WITH A RECALL YET FOR THAT PROBLEM. THEY ADVISED IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVETRAIN . I REALLY DO NOT WANT THIS VEHICLE ANY MORE IF IT IS ALWAYS GOING TO DO THIS.. WHAT MAKES ME MAD IS THAT I JUST BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN JULY....... WHAT CAN BE DONE . *TR
THE RUBBER ON THE INSIDE THE TAILGATE HANDLE HAS MELTED AND ERRODED. IN WARM WEATHER, IT IS STICKY AND CAUSES BLACK TAR-LIKE SUBSTANCE ON HANDS. IN COLDER WINTER MONTHS, IT IS DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS TO OPEN THE TAILGATE. IN QUICKLY SCANNING ALL COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE RELATED TO THE 2007 4-RUNNER, ABOUT 10% ARE FOR THIS ISSUE! NOT A SERIOUS SAFETY OR VEHICLE OPERATION ISSUE, BUT INDICATES A FAULTY PART ON THE VEHICLE. UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS MODEL YEAR IS LONG OUT OF WARRANTY, IT SHOULD STILL BE CORRECTED, AS A GOODWILL MEASURE IF NOTHING ELSE. *TR
THE REAR HATCH DOOR HANDLE IS DEFORMED AND TURNED INTO A TAR-LIKE MESS THAT COVERS OUR FINGERS WHENEVER WE TRY TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH. I HAVE NOTED NUMEROUS OTHER 4-RUNNER OWNERS HAVING THE SAME EXACT MALFUNCTION. PROBLEM IS THE MELTED RUBBER COVER WHICH IS PART OF THE SWITCH ASSEMBLY, PART #84840-35010. TOTALLY UNSAT! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE ABS SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT THEN ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE HYDRO-BOOSTER BRAKING SYSTEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND HE SHOULD FILE A COMPLAINT. THEY OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
THE PAD (LOCATED ON THE HATCHBACK LATCH) WHERE YOU PLACE YOUR HAND TO PRESS DOWN TO OPEN THE HATCHBACK HAS MELTED. IT IS DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE HATCHBACK AS THE RUBBER HAS MELTED & THE BUTTON NO LONGER RELEASES PROPERLY. WHEN I CALLED DON MCGILL TOYOTA IN HOUSTON, TX, THEY EXPLAINED THIS IS NOT A RECALL ITEM & IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $350 TO REPAIR SINCE IT INCLUDES REPLACING THE ENTIRE BUTTON & ELECTRICAL PARTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE HATCHBACK. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE I CANNOT OPEN THE HATCHBACK PROPERLY. I BELIEVE THIS IS A FAULTY HATCHBACK HANDLE WHICH TOYOTA SHOULD REPAIR AT NO CHARGE. THE PARTS THAT WERE ORIGINALLY USED ON THIS HANDLE ARE FAULTY. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, SHE NOTICED THAT HER VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP ONCE THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. SHE HAD TO UTILIZE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THERE IS LOT OF RUST ON THE FRAME AND TOYOTA IS NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
ON THE BACK OF THE TRUCK, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE REAR DOOR, MY CAR BEGAN TO RUST OUT OF NOWHERE. I DO NOT LIVE BY THE OCEAN OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF ENVIRONMENT TO CAUSE RUST AND IN THE WINTER TIME, THE TRUCK IS GARAGE KEPT. AFTER HEARING FROM A NUMBER OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, CALLING TOYOTA TO FIND OUT THAT THEY HAVE NO RECALL, I TOOK THE CAR TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP. THE EXPERT LOOKED AT THE RUST, WENT TO SCRAPE IT, AND THE EXTERIOR CRUMBLED IN CREATING A DECENT HOLE. THE EXPERT SAID THAT THERE WAS NO REASON FOR A TRUCK THIS AGE SHOULD HAVE THIS PROBLEM. HE CALLED TOYOTA TO COMPLAIN SAYING THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM TOYOTA SHOULD FIX, BUT THEY SAID THEY HAD NO RECALL ON THE ISSUE. THE EXPERT TOLD ME THAT THE CAR WAS RUSTING FROM THE INSIDE AND IS EATING AWAY AT THE LAYERS OF PAINT. HE SAID I HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CAUSE. HE ALSO SAID THAT HE COULD FIX IT AT A HIGH PRICE, BUT THAT MAY NOT EVEN SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I AM FILING THIS BECAUSE THERE IS NO REASON A CAR 6 YEARS OLD AND WELL KEPT SHOULD BE RUSTING AND FALLING APART. *TR
THE WHOLE AREA OF EXPOSED STEEL HAS BEEN SO CORRODED WITH RUST THAT I ACNNOT EVEN REMOVE BOLTS TO SERVICE SEVERAL OF THE KEY COMPONENTS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE FRAME, CROSS MEMBERS, SUSPENSION ETC. ARE ALSO AFFECTED IN THIS WAY.I'M NO EXPERT BUT IT IS PROGRESSIVELY BECOMING MORE AND MORE UNSAFE TO DRIVE ESPECIALLY IF I LOSE BRAKES OR SOME OTHER NECESSARY FUNCTION. PLEASE HELP, IS THIS A BAD BATCH OF CHEAP STEEL?
WHILE TRAVELING UNDER CRUISE CONTROL AT 55- 60 MPH ON A RURAL 2 LANE HIGHWAY IN NC, I CAME UPON A VEHICLE IN MY LANE TRAVELING AT A SLOWER RATE OF SPEED. AS I APPROACHED THE VEHICLE, I ACCELERATED TO PASS. WHILE PASSING I COULD TELL THAT THE VEHICLE FELT LIKE IT WAS MOVING FASTER THAN THE 60 - 65 MPH IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FOR THE AMOUNT OF GAS I GAVE IT, BUT I WAS CONCENTRATING ON COMPLETING THE PASS AND DID NOT LOOK AT THE SPEEDOMETER. AFTER PASSING AND PULLING BACK INTO MY LANE, I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN. MY VEHICLE SLOWED SLIGHTLY BUT FELT ODD, LIKE IT WAS PULLING. WHEN I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE, MY VEHICLE BEGAN RAPIDLY ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN, QUICKLY GETTING TO ABOUT 70 - 75 MPH BEFORE I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE AGAIN. AGAIN THE VEHICLE SLOWED SLIGHTLY BUT FELT ODD, LIKE IT WAS PULLING. WHEN I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE, MY VEHICLE AGAIN RAPIDLY ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN, AT WHICH POINT I REALIZED SOMETHING WAS WRONG AND DEPRESSED THE BRAKE HARDER. THE VEHICLE PULLED HARDER THIS TIME AND STARTED VIBRATING SEVERELY. I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE AND THE VEHICLE AGAIN BEGAN ACCELERATING. I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND BROUGHT THE CAR TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. OVER THE NEXT ~ 20 MINUTES I TRIED ~ 4 - 5 TIMES TO CRANK THE CAR. EACH TIME THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY REVVED SUCH THAT THE TACHOMETER ALMOST INSTANTLY HIT RED ZONE, AND I CUT THE ENGINE OFF. I CALLED TOYOTA'S "800" PHONE NUMBER, AND THEY TOLD ME TO GET THE CAR TO A TOTOTA DEALER. BEFORE CALLING A TOW TRUCK, I TRIED CRANKING THE CAR ONE MORE TIME, AND THAT TIME THE ENGINE CRANKED NORMALLY.
THE HATCH LATCH HAS MELTED AND PRESENTS PROBLEMS IN UNLATCHING. THE DEALER DENIES THIS IS A PROBLEM. ESPECIALLY IN COOLER WEATHER, I AM OFTEN NOT ABLE TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH. MY RESEARCH INDICATES THAT MANY OWNERS OF THIS MODEL EXPERIENCE THE SAME ISSUES. THERE IS SOME CONCERN THAT THE CAUSE IS FAULTY WIRING THAT OVERHEATS THE MATERIAL. ALSO, THE REPLACEMENT PART IS THE SAME AS THE ORIGINAL; THEREFORE, NOT RESOLVING THIS ISSUE. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY CONCERN AND SHOULD BE REMEDIED BY THE MANUFACTURER.
WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS RUNNING THE VEHICLE IDLES AT DIFFERENT RPM'S CAUSING IT TO LUNGE FORWARD WHEN THE A/C COMPRESSOR SHUTS DOWN, INCREASING THE RPM'S. THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED A FENDER BENDER SEVERAL TIMES WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT. *TR

2007 TOYOTA 4RUNNER WITH 55,000 MILES. HYDROBOOT ASSEMBLY (ABS BRAKE SYSTEM COMPUTER AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY) ABRUPTLY WENT OUT ON MARCH 22 WITH MY 18 YR DRIVING. HE COULD NOT IMMEDIATELY GET THE CAR TO STOP USING ALL OF HIS STRENGTH AND FORCE. TOYOTA DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THIS IS A "FREAK" OCCURRENCE. IF THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN ON A HIGHWAY OR MY 15 YR WITH LEARNERS PERMIT DRIVING, THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A FATAL ACCIDENT. TOYOTA SAYS "OUT OF WARRANTY" AND "SORRY". *TR
THE LEFT REAR SECTION OF MY VEHICLES FRAME WHERE THE REAR TRACTION BAR MOUNTS IS COMPLETELY SEPARATED AT THE WELDS LEAVING A LARGE HOLE IN THE FRAME WHERE THE BRACKET ONCE WAS. THIS ISSUE IS SIMILAR TO THE TACOMA FRAME RECALL. MY 97 4 RUNNER IS BASICALLY TOTALED AT THIS POINT AND WILL NOT PASS MASS STATE INSPECTION EVEN THOUGH THE DRIVETRAIN AND BODY ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. *TR
