I AM CONCERNED AS TO WHETHER THE SEAT BELT ANCHORING SYSTEM CONFORMS WITH THE SEAT BELT STANDARD. THE CAR HAS A SPLIT BENCH SEAT, AND CAN CARRY 3 PASSENGERS IN THE FRONT. THE RIGHT SIDE PASSENGER BELTS ARE ANCHORED TO THE CHASSIS - SIDE AND FLOOR. THE DRIVER SIDE HAS ONE PORTION ATTACHED TO THE SEAT RUNNER, AND THE MIDDLE PASSENGER HAS ONE TO THE SEAT AS WELL. SHOULD ALL BELTS BE ANCHORED TO THE FLOOR OR SIDE PILLAR?
AT NIGHT THERE IS A GREEN GLOW FROM THE DASH LIGHTS THAT REFLECTS ONTO THE FRONT WINDSHIELD, OBSCURING MY VIEW TO THE ROAD AHEAD. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A CLEAR VIEW OF THE ROAD AND LAST NIGHT I ALMOST HIT A PEDESTRIAN BECAUSE MY VIEW WAS OBSCURED. THE DEALER TELLS ME THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND THAT I CAN TURN THE INSTRUMENT LIGHTS OFF TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, BUT WHEN I TRIED THAT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO READ MY SPEED, ETC.*AK
REFLECTIONS ONTO THE WINDSHIELD AT NIGHT IN POORLY LIT AREAS OF THE CAR GAUGES, COWL COVERING THE GAUGES AND WOOD AREA AROUND THE RADIO SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO PREVENT REFLECTION. NLM
THE LIGHT FROM THE HEADLIGHTS DO NOT ILLUMINATE THE ROAD FAR ENOUGH, WHICH IMPAIRS VISION DURING NIGHT DRIVING. *CJ
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AT 60-65 MPH , STEERED TO RIGHT TO AVOID RAGE ROAD AND THEN MADE A SHARP LEFT ,LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE , AND HIT A CONCRETE BRIDGE HEAD-ON, AND THEN ROLLED OVER 5 TIMES. DUAL AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WAS NO WARNING OF AIRBAGS BEING INOPERATIVE.*AK *JB CONSUMER STATES SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN VEHICLE ROLLED OVER. *JB
MULTIPLE TIMES, MY AIR BAG INDICATOR HAS COME ON WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, BUT THE TECHNICIAN CAN NEVER IDENTIFY A PROBLEM. I'VE BEEN TOLD TO COME BACK WHEN THE INDICATOR IS ON. I FEAR THAT MY AIRBAG MAY NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION.*AK
SEVERE GLARE INTO WINDSHIELD FROM POOR INSTRUMENT PANEL DESIGN. SUN REFLECTS OFF OF INSTRUMENT PANEL BAZEL INTO WINDSHIELD AT DRIVER EYE LEVEL BLINDING DRIVER. AT NIGHT LIGHTED INSTRUMENT GAUGES REFLECT INTO WINDSHIELD CREATING A DISTRACTING "HEADS UP" TYPE DISPLAY. INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS MUST BE ALMOST COMPLETELY DIMMED TO AVOID REFLECTION PROBLEM. THIS CREATES ANOTHER PROBLEM OF VIEWING GAUGES. *AK
MY 2000 TOYOTA AVALON XLS SUFFER FROM A BRAKE PAD CLICKING NOISE THAT CAN NOT BE ELIMINATED. TOYOTA ISSUED TECHINCAL SERVICE BULLETIN BR004-00 DATED 10/20/00. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES IN REVERSE I HEAR THIS NOISE, THEN AGAIN WHEN THE DRIVING DIRECTION CHANGES TO GO FORWARD. THIS NOSIE OCCURS SEVERAL TIMES A DAY, ESPECIALLY IF THE VEHICLE SITS OVER 30 MINUTES. MY CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. IT WENT TO THE SHOP AT LEAST 3 TIMES BEFORE REGENCY MOTOR GAVE UP. I'VE BEEN THROUGH ARBITRATION, THE ARBITRATOR FAILED ME MISERABLY. HE DECIDED IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. HOWEVER, TOYOTA CAN'T REPAIR THE CAR. SO HOW DOES HE KNOW IT'S NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. TOYOTA HAS NOT ELIMINATED THE NOISE. ACCORDING TO TOYOTA'S BULLETIN ALL MODELS FROM "90 TO 00" COULD SUFFER FROM THIS BRAKE PAD CLICKING NOISE. TOYOTA HAS MERELY CREATED A BAND-AID FOR THE NOISE (THE BULLETIN ADVISES THAT A DIC BRAKE CALIPER GREASE IS TO BE APPLIED), BUT THEY HAVE NOT REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. AND THE PROPOSED FIX ONLY WILL LAST 6 MONTH TO 1 YEAR. IT DID NOT LAST A WEEK FOR ME. AS A CONSUMER WITH A CAR THAT IS STILL UNDER ITS 3YEAR/36000 MILE WARRANTY, I FEEL CHEATED. PLEASE LOOK INTO TOYOTA'S UNACCEPTABLE RESPONSE TO THIS PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE DRIVING DASH LIGHTS REFLECT IN WINDSHIELD AT EYE LEVEL, GIVING A BLINDING GLARE. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATES ON DASHBOARD. SLUDGE LIKE SUBSTANCE IN OIL MAKES VEHICLE INOPERABLE. ALSO, WATER PUMP WENT OUT, CAUSE KNOWN. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION, AND VEHICLE INDENTIFICATION NUMBER. *AK
WHILE TRYING TO TURN KEY IN IGNITION SWITCH OFF DOORS AND WINDOWS WILL AUTOMATICALLY LOCK WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO EXIT VEHICLE.*AK CONSUMER ALSO STATED THAT BRAKES FEEL SPONGY, ALSO WHEN DRIVING, THE VEHICLE WILL SOMETIMES ACCELERATE BY ITSELF.*SLC
WHILE APPLYING BRAKES, VEHICLE WILL GLIDE INSTEAD OF STOPPING WITHOUT WARNING.*AK *JB
WHEN THE CONSUMER WAS APPLYING THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE WHEELS ON THE RIGHT SIDE LOCK UP DURING DRY WEATHER. ALSO, IN WET WEATHER THE TIRES WOULD GIVE A QUICK SPIN. CONSUMER IS ASKING A FULL REFUND OF THE VEHICLE. *YH
ON 4/25/2002, MIDDLE FINGER ON RIGHT HAND WAS BROKEN BY POWER WINDOW ON RIGHT REAR SIDE OF CAR. THERE IS NO SAFETY DEVICE TO STOP WINDOW FROM ROLLING UP WHEN IT MEETS WITH RESISTANCE FROM OBJECT IN WINDOW. I AM IN HAND THERAPY AND THIS IS AUGUST, IT STILL MAY BE ANOTHER 6 MOS BEFORE IT IS HEALED.*AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND NO WARNING WHEN THEY TURN OFF THE AIR CONDITION THEY CAN SMELL STRONG FUMES COMING FROM OUT THE VENT. DEALER NOTIFIED.
WAS IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC APPROACHING TOLL, WHEN VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, FORWARD. HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE IN FRONT. STOPPED AND CHECKED VEHICLE AND GOT BACK IN VEHICLE. SHIFTED INTO REVERSE AND VEHICLE ACCELERATED BACKWARDS. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND INFORMED A TOYOTA INSPECTOR WILL CHECK VEHICLE OUT. VEHICLE INSPECTED AND NOTHING WAS FOUND. TS
CONSUMER CALLED COMPLAINING ABOUT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES. ALSO STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE LOST 99% OF THE BRAKES. DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. TS

THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION, AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY, CONSUMER SUFFERED INJURIES.*JB
CONSUMER HAD A CONCERN ABOUT THE AIR BAGS IN THE VEHICLE DUE TO HER HEIGHT AND WEIGHT. *TS *JB
VEHICLE TIRE EQUIPMENT WAS CONSIDERED CHEAP.*MR THE TIRES FAILED AT A LOW MILEAGE. *TS *JB
AMONG THE FOUR TOYOTA VEHICLES OWNED BY THE CONSUMER ONLY THE 2000 AVALON WOULD SURGE FORWARD WHILE SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. *PH PUSHING HARD ON THE BRAKES WOULD KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM HITTING OTHER VEHICLES AND THE SURGE WOULD STOP AS QUICKLY AS IT STARTED. THIS WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. *SC *JB
