WE HAVE A 2003 TOYOTA AVALON WHICH WE PURCHASED NEW FROM TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. IT HAS AN OUTSTANDING AIR BAG RECALL DATED JANUARY 27, 2015. WE KEEP GETTING TOLD WE WILL BE NOTIFIED WHEN PARTS ARE AVAILABLE BUT THIS IS GETTING RIDICULOUS. I TALKED TO THEIR SERVICE DEPT AGAIN ON FRIDAY, OCT 23RD AND THEY TOLD ME THEY STILL HAVE NO INFO ON PARTS AVAILABILITY FOR THIS REPAIR. WHAT CAN YOU DO TO GET THIS MOVING?

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. OVER ONE (1) YEAR AGO I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE ON THIS VEHICLE STATING THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU) WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. OVER A YEAR LATER AND "REMEDY NOT AVAILABLE" IS THE RESPONSE FROM TOYOTA. IT APPEARS THAT THE REMEDY IS TO DELAY, DELAY, DELAY SO AS MANY OF THESE CARS AS POSSIBLE ARE RETIRED AND DO NOT REQUIRE REPAIR. PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW THIS RECALL PROBLEM IS GOING TO BE RESOLVED IN A TIMELY MANNER.

I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA IN JANUARY 2015. THE INSTRUCTIONS SAY THEY ARE WORKING ON A REMEDY FOR THE SRS ECU. I HAVE CALLED THEM TWICE AND SUBMITTED A COMPLAINT TO YOU ONCE REGARDING THE UNREASONABLE DELAY IN IMPLEMENTING THE 'REMEDY'. THEY CONTINUE TO SAY TO WAIT UNTIL THEY HAVE REPLACEMENT PARTS. IT IS BEGINNING TO FEEL LIKE A STALLING PROCESS WAITING FOR MY PERSISTENCE TO WEAKEN. THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM INCLUDES REPORTS OF INADVERTENT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. SOMEONE NEEDS TO PROVIDE THEM WITH SOME ENCOURAGEMENT. IS THAT YOUR JOB?

AIRBAG LIGHTS BLINK. BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO TWO TOYOTA DEALERS AND THEY SAID THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS ITEM HOWEVER THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. CAR WAS IN SHOP FOR OVER A WEEK TILL I FINALLY GOT TIRED OF THE STALLING TACTIC. IT APPEARS THAT TOYOTA IS NOT COMPLYING WITH THEIR AGREEMENT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IN A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THEY DO HAVE THE PARTS BUT HAVE NO AVAILABLE APPOINTMENTS FOR QUITE SOME TIME. AM GETTING VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION IS NOT BEING HANDLED PROPERLY AND RESPONSIBLY. *TR
THE ENGINE STARTED COLD AND REVVED TO 2500 RPM AND THEN OSCILLATED BETWEEN 2500 AND ABOUT 3000 RPM AND NEVER SLOWED DOWN. I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND DROVE IT THE BLOCK AND A HALF TO MY HOUSE USING THE BRAKE TO STOP AT THE ONLY STOP SIGN ON THE ROUTE BUT STOPPING WAS DIFFICULT. THE NEXT MORNING I EXPERIENCED THE SAME ULTRA-FAST IDLE AND DROVE THE CAR ON AN ERRAND THAT WAS ABOUT 2 MILES DISTANT. THE SAME PATTERN PERSISTED BUT THE BRAKES WERE HEATING UP AND SMELLING FROM FREQUENT USE IN KEEPING THE CAR WITHIN THE CITY SPEED LIMIT. IT ALSO STRESSED THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WHILE BRAKING AGAINST THE FAST MOTOR. I STARTED SHIFTING FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL AND COASTING TO CONTROL THE SPEED WHILE THE ENGINE SPEED OSCILLATION CONTINUED. I PARKED THE CAR BACK HOME AND HAD A TOW TRUCK TAKE IT TO MARIETTA TOYOTA WHERE THE DIAGNOSIS WAS TO REPLACE THE IDLE CONTROL MOTOR AT A COST OF $669.00 LESS A $99.00 NEGOTIATED DISCOUNT. THAT SERVICE SOLVED THE PROBLEM BUT THE PROBLEM HAD THE POTENTIAL TO OVERHEAT THE BRAKES, CAUSE ONE TO COAST IN NEUTRAL WITHOUT IDEAL CONTROL OF THE CAR IN AN EMERGENCY, ETC. *TR

AIRBAG ILLUMINATES AT DIFFERENT TIMES WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING PROBLEM SINCE 2003. WHEN RECALL NOTICE WAS RECEIVED TOOK CAR INTO TOYOTA DEALER FOR REPAIR. UPON ARRIVING AT HOME WITH VEHICLE NOTICED THAT INSIDE DOME CEILING LIGHTS BLINKS ON AND OFF UNTIL IGNITION IS TURNED OFF. RETURNED TO TOYOTA ONE WEEK LATER TO REPORT PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THE SYSTEM WAS RESETTING AND THAT THE BLINKING WOULD STOP. DURING THE NEXT THREE WEEKS THE BLINKING CONTINUED AND THE AIRBAG CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE WHILE DRIVING. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND THREE HOURS LATER WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR HAS A $700 ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT NEEDED REPAIR AND THAT WOULD FIX BOTH PROBLEMS. THE CAR DID NOT HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WHEN IT WAS INITIALLY TAKEN INTO THE DEALER. THEY ARE TRYING TO GET ADDITIONAL MONIES TO MAKE UP FOR FIXING THE AIRBAG PROBLEM FOR FREE. TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SEEING THAT THEIR DEALERSHIPS HONOR THE REPAIR REQUESTS AND DO THEM CORRECTLY. *TR

DURING THE DRIVE TO FLORIDA, A HARD BRAKE (NO SKID) AND STEER TO THE LEFT WAS NECESSARY. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THAT, THE STEERING BECAME SHAKY AND A ROAD RUMBLING NOISE WAS NOTICED. AFTER SETTLING IN, WE TOOK THE CAR TO A FIRESTONE DEALER AND THEY RE-BALANCED THE TIRES. THAT DID NOT STOP THE SHAKY STEERING WHEEL OR THE ROAD NOISE. ONE WEEK LATER, WHILE CHANGING LANES, THE TIRES RAN OVER LANE DIVIDER BUMPS AND A BLOWOUT OCCURRED. REPLACED THE FLAT TIRE WITH THE SPARE (FULL SIZE) AND IMMEDIATELY, THE ROAD NOISE CEASED AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS PERFECTLY NORMAL. I INSPECTED THE TIRE AND FOUND A 2 INCH RIP/GAP IN THE CENTER OF THE TREAD. WENT BACK TO THE FIRESTONE DEALER AND WAS TOLD I HAD RUN OVER A SOME KIND OF SHARP ROAD HAZARD. I BELIEVE THE BELT BENEATH THE TREAD HAD FAILED. *TR

I RECEIVED OVER THE SUMMER OF 2014 A RECALL FOR MY 2003 TOYOTA AVALON REGARDING THE SRS (AIRBAG) WARNING LIGHT AND TO HANG TIGHT BECAUSE A 'FIX' WAS COMING SOON. OCTOBER 22, 2014 I RECEIVED A 2ND LETTER FROM TOYOTA MOTOR SALES, U.S.A. INDICATING THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART WAS IN AND TO CONTACT MY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. I CALLED WALKER TOYOTA (937.433.4950) LOCATED AT 8457 SPRINGBORO PIKE, MIAMISBURG, OH 45342 ON OCTOBER 23, 2014 AND ATTEMPTED TO SCHEDULE MY CAR FOR REPAIR. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE REPLACEMENT PART BUT WOULD CONTACT ME SOON. ON NOVEMBER 3, 2014 THE SRS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON THE DASHBOARD. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO THE NIGHT DROP AT WALKER TOYOTA WITH THE HOPE THE PART WOULD BE INSTALLED ON NOV. 4, 2014. I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM BOB (SERVICE MGR.) THAT THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THE SRS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON BASED ON THE CAR COMPUTER AND BECAUSE THIS IS NOT CONSIDERED AN 'EMERGENCY' I HAVE TO WAIT 10 DAYS FOR A PART TO BECOME AVAILABLE. I NOW HAVE A CAR THAT I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE FOR FEAR OF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYING. I WAS ASSURED BY BOB THAT THIS HAS 'NEVER' HAPPENED TO HIS KNOWLEDGE. WOW.....THAT MAKES ME FEEL GOOD ABOUT IT. I THEN ASKED FOR A RENTAL CAR WITH A DISCOUNT BASED ON THIS ISSUE. I WAS TOLD THAT WALKER TOYOTA CANNOT GIVE A PRICE BREAK ON A RENTAL. KEEP IN MIND I'M A SCHOOL SECRETARY MAKING $32,000.00 A YEAR. $35 X 10 DAYS IS $350.00. I CAN'T AFFORD TO DO THAT. I AM NOW RESORTING TO BEGGING RIDES TO AND FROM WORK UNTIL THIS CAR IS SCHEDULED FOR A REPAIR. *TR
I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH TOYOTA OF ROCKWALL TO HAVE A RECALL ON THE AIR BAGS REPAIRED. AFTER AN HOUR I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER THE PART. KYLE TOLD ME HE WOULD CALL ME NO LATER THAN NOV 4TH WITH THE PART IN HAND. I NEVER HEARD FROM HIM OR ANYONE ELSE AT TOYOTA OF ROCKWALL. SO I CONTACTED TOYOTA HQ BY EMAIL. IN THEIR RESPONSE THEY BASICALLY SAID THAT THEY DON'T CARE IF THE RECALL IS REPAIRED OR NOT. IT'S THEIR CAR ON WHICH THEY USED DEFECTIVE PARTS AND THEY SHOULD REPAIR IT ASAP. *TR
I AM STILL WAITING TO HEAR FROM TOYOTA OF ROCKWALL ABOUT GETTING THE RECALL REPAIR ON MY CAR. THEY STILL HAVE NOT CONTACTED ME AT ALL. I HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE OCT 31, 2014 TO GET THIS PART AND THIS RECALL REPAIR DONE. AS OF DEC 3, 2014 IT HAS NOT BEEN DONE. SO I CONTACTED COWBOY TOYOTA WITH THE SAME RESULTS. THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO ORDER THE PART FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME THEY DIDN'T CARE IF THE REPAIR WAS MADE OR NOT AND THEY WERE NOT GOING TO TELL THE DEALERSHIPS TO COOPERATE WITH GETTING THE REPAIR DONE. TOYOTA HQ DOESN'T CARE WHAT THEIR DEALERSHIPS DO OR HOW THEY TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS. *JS

THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND DID PROVIDE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT DID NOT EXPERIENCE A FAILURE.
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING. THE SAME WEEK THE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA NOTIFYING ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR A PROBLEM WITH THE SRS BECAUSE THE SRS CIRCUITS ARE SUSCEPTIBLE TO INTERNAL SHORTING. THE ELECTRICAL SHORT MAY CREATE AN ABNORMAL CURRENT FLOW AND INCREASED HEAT WHICH CAN DAMAGE THE CIRCUITS. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED TOYOTA DEALER TO HAVE RECALL ADDRESSED. THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY PERFORMED THE FIX THAT WAS REQUIRED BY TOYOTA. THE WORK THAT THE DEALER PERFORMED DID NOT ADDRESS THE PROBLEM THAT WAS CAUSING AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT TO FLASH. I WAS TOLD THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS FLASHING BECAUSE OF A SHORT. I CAN NOT FIGURE OUT HOW THIS SHORT IN THE SRS WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. *TR
TOYOTA HAS KNOWN OF THIS PROBLEM FOR YEARS AND HAS WORKED ON THE CAR LAST YEAR TO GIVE A TEMPORARY FIX, NOW A FEW MONTHS AGO TOYOTA SENDS YET ANOTHER RECALL FOR SAME PARTS, BUT YET THE DEALERS NOR TOYOTA HAS ANY IDEA OF WHEN THIS WILL BE AVAILABLE, MEANWHILE WE DRIVE AROUND IN FEAR OF UNNECESSARY DEPLOYMENT OF AIRBAG. WE HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH TOYOTA AND ALL THE LOCAL DEALERS AND NO ONE CAN TELL US ANYTHING, BUT ON THE NEWS THE REPORTS SAY THE AIRBAGS ARE BEING REPLACED

WE TOOK OUR VEHICLE TO MANN TOYOTA IN PRESTONSBURG, KY FOR A RECALL REPAIR TO THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. THE PROBLEM IS MUCH WORSE NOW AFTER THEY SAID THEY REPLACED THE WIRING HARNESS. THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS COMING ON MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY NOW. NOW THEY ARE SAYING WE HAVE TO PAY THEM TO GET A SCAN ON THE VEHICLE. *TR

I RECEIVED AN INTERIM NOTICE ON MAY 17, 2014 THAT THE ELECTRONIC RESTRAINT SYSTEM'S ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE MAY SHORT CIRCUIT WHEN EXPOSED TO CERTAIN ELECTRICAL NOISE FROM VARIOUS VEHICLE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. I HAVE CALLED TOYOTA ON THERE HOT LINE 1 888 270-9371 TO GET THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED IN MY CAR. EACH TIME I CALL, THE TOYOTA REP. SAYS THAT TOYOTA "IS WORKING ON IT BUT THEY HAVE NO PARTS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM". IT HAS NOW THE END OF AUGUST, 4 MONTHS LATER AND NO SOLUTION. AM I TO BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE REALLY WORKING ON THIS PROBLEM. I AM THE ONE AT RISK. THE AIRBAG MAY DEPLOY WHILE I'M DRIVING OR NOT DEPLOY IF I HIT SOMETHING OR SOMETHING HITS ME. I WANT TO KNOW WHEN THE REMEDY WILL BE READY AND I CAN DRIVE A SAFE CAR. *TR

THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT TURNS ON AND OFF. I AM THE ORIGINAL VEHICLE OWNER. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN A CRASH NOR HAS THE AIR BAG EVER DEPLOYED. CURRENTLY THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN UNDER THE INTERIM AIR BAG RECALL NOTICE THAT I RECEIVED BUT NO REPAIR BY THE TOYOTA DEALER WAS MADE. THE INTERIM RECALL NOTICE FOR THE AIR BAG WAS RECEIVED 05/19/2014. SUBMISSION FROM CONSTITUENT RE 2003 TOYOTA AVALON 4 DR-SD RE STICKY GAS PEDAL PROBLEM. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED ON JULY 25, 2014, AS HIS WIFE WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. DESPITE PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW UNTIL IT MADE CONTACT WITH A LAMP POST. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE, THE CONSUMERS CONCERN.*JB
