RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL NOTICE BEGINNING OF MAY 2014. AT THE BEGINNING OF AUGUST I CHECKED WITH TOYOTA'S OFFICE IN CALIFORNIA AND SPOKE WITH NICOLE (CUST. SVC. SUPV.) HER OFFICE PHONE NUMBER IS 1-800-331-4331 EXT. 73824. THEY FOUND A "SOLUTION", TO THE PROBLEM IN EARLY MAY 2014. VEHICLES NEED TO BE "FITTED" WITH A NOISE FILTER, BETWEEN "THE AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE AND THE WIRE HARNESS". BUT I WAS TOLD BY NICOLE, "THAT THEY STILL DON'T HAVE THE PART READY FOR INSTALLATION". I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN BECAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT I WAS INVOLVED IN, MAY 28TH 1996. (IT WAS IN A 1991 LINCOLN TOWNCAR, THE FIRST YEAR CARS HAD AIRBAGS) BECAUSE OF MY "PERSONAL INJURIES", I'VE BEEN TOTALLY DISABLED EVER SINCE. THAT WAS OVER 18 YEARS AGO! I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN TO NICOLE "BECAUSE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE!" WHAT THE RECALL STATES IS, "THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) FOR THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) IN THESE VEHICLES COULD HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH INTEGRATED CIRCUITS THAT ARE SUSCEPTIBLE TO INTERNAL SHORT CIRCUITING WHEN EXPOSED TO CERTAIN ELECTRICAL NOISE FROM VARIOUS VEHICLE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. IF INTERNAL SHORT CIRCUITING OCCURS, THE FRONT AIRBAG(S) AND/OR SEAT BELT PRETENTIONERS COULD INADVERTENTLY DEPLOY." DASH LIGHTS KEEP COMING ON SHOWING AIR BAGS ICON AND WE HAVE A RECALL DATED IN OCTOBER 2015 AND STATED THAT THE SUB-WIRE HARNESS WAS INSTALLED AND THE THE SRS ECU WAS NOT REPLACED. EVERY TIME I CALL MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP I FIND OUT THAT TOYOTA HAS NOT SENT THE REPLACEMENT PARTS. I USE [XXX] IN SYLACAUGA, AL 35150: PHONE [XXX]. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION IN MARCH, 2014 FROM TOYOTA THAT MY AIR BAGS MAY DEPLOY AT ANY TIME. I HAVE MADE MONTHLY CALLS TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND TOYOTA ABOUT WHEN IT CAN BE REPAIRED. SIX MONTHS LATER, THEY STILL DO NOT HAVE AN ANSWER. JUST HOW LONG IS IT BEFORE THERE IS A SOLUTION AND IT IS AVAILABLE? IS MY CAR SUPPOSE TO SIT IN THE DRIVE WAY OR DO I JUST FEEL LUCKY AND DRIVE THE CAR, WHICH INVOLVES INTERSTATE DRIVING AT TIMES? *TR
I WAS ALONE IN THE CAR AND HAD DRIVEN INTO MY DRIVEWAY (AFTER OPENING THE GARAGE DOOR) TO ENTER THE GARAGE. THE CAR SUDDENLY TOOK OFF AND BEFORE I KNEW, I HAD CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF THE GARAGE AND WENT THROUGH IT. THE CAR SMASHED INTO GARDENING TOOLS, SNOW SHOVELS, LAWN MOWER, LEAF BLOWER, TRASH CANS, AND FLOWERING POTS. IT CAME TO A STOP PARTLY BY THE COAT CLOSET WALL THAT PROTRUDES INTO THE GARAGE AND PARTLY BY ALL THE STUFF THAT GOT CAUGHT UNDER THE CAR. THE GARAGE DOOR RAILING WAS DAMAGED AND THE DOOR WAS HANGING A FEW INCHES ABOVE MY CAR. I HEARD THINGS FALLING ABOVE ME. I THOUGHT THAT THE ROOF WOULD COLLAPSE. I REALIZED THAT THE CAR WAS STILL REVVING AND I SHUT IT. I SAT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN I OPENED THE DOOR AND RAN OUT INTO THE HOUSE. THE CAR, THE GARAGE, AND GARAGE CONTENTS WERE DAMAGED. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I THINK IT WAS CAUSED BY UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 5 MPH IN THE DRIVEWAY AND I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS. I RECEIVED THE "URGENT SAFETY RECALL" NOTICE ON APRIL 3, 2015. YOUR WEBSITE TODAY GIVES: NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: 15V043 / RECALL DATE: JANUARY 27, 2015 / MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER: ESG, AND STATES UNDER REMEDY THAT WHEN A REMEDY BECOMES AVAILABLE, TOYOTA WILL UPDATE. MY PRINTED NOTICE FROM TOYOTA SAYS: "WE WILL SEND YOU ANOTHER NOTIFICATION ONCE THESE PREPARATIONS ARE COMPLETE." I HAVE NOT REC'D ANYTHING FROM TOYOTA. THE MANUFACTURER HAS FAILED TO REMEDY THE DEFECT WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME.
I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA YEARS AGO. I CALLED THEM A NUMBER OF TIMES AND THEY STILL DON'T HAVE THE REPLACEMENT PART. THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD CALL ME WHEN THEY RECEIVED IT BUT I HAVE NEVER HEARD FROM THEM. TOYOTA IS RISKING MY LIFE AND THOSE OF MY PASSENGERS.
I WAS DRIVING IN MY LANE AT 40 MPH UNTIL AN AUSTEX TOWING TRUCK WENT INTO MY LANE WITHOUT A SIGNAL AND I WAS RIGHT BESIDE HIM. I HONKED TO NO AVAIL AND HE WAS STILL PROCEEDING INTO MY LANE. I HIT THE BRAKES AS HARD AS I COULD TO AVOID HIM HITTING ME AND I HAD TO SWERVE A LITTLE TO MY LEFT (TO MY LEFT WAS THE CURB AS IT WAS A 2 LANE ROAD) TO AVOID HIM HITTING MY RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR. AFTER I AVOIDED HIM, HE WAS DRIVING HALF INTO BOTH LANES FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS THEN HE RETURNED TO HIS LANE. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT IN DEC 2013 INVOLVING OUR 2004 TOYOTA AVALON. WE SUSPECT THE CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT RELEASE AS IT SHOULD HAVE. SHE HAD BEEN USING THE CRUISE CONTROL AND TAPPED THE BRAKE TO RELEASE IT AS SHE EXITED A HIGHWAY SHE THEN STEPPED ON THE BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN AS SHE EXITED THE EASTBOUND HIGHWAY TO MANEUVERE THE EXIT CURVE TO MERGE ONTO A SOUTHBOUND INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. ON THE CURVE SHE NOTICED THE CAR WASN'T SLOWING DOWN AS IT SHOULD, AND WHEN SHE BRAKED HARDER, THE BRAKES LOCKED UP SENDING HER INTO A SWERVE. THE CAR TRACED A PATH SIMILAR TO AN UPSIDE DOWN QUESTION MARK. SHE CROSSED TWO LANES, AND THE REAR OF THE CAR HIT A WALL LANDING HER FACING TRAFFIC RIGHT NEXT TO THE ROADWAY. WHEN THE CAR CAME TO A STOP, BOTH THE GAS PEDAL AND THE BRAKE WERE COMPLETELY DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR, AND THE ENGINE HAD SHUT OFF. HER FOOT HAD NOT BEEN ON THE GAS PEDAL FOR SOME TIME SINCE SHE WAS USING THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOTALED OUT THE CAR. THANKFULLY, THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS INVOLVED, BUT MY DAUGHTER WAS PRETTY SHAKEN UP AND HAD TO BE TREATED FOR HEADACHES/NECK SORENESS DUE TO WHIPLASH. WHEN SHE RESTARTED THE CAR (SHE HAD TO TURN THE KEY OFF FIRST, THEN ON), THE PEDALS RETURNED TO NORMAL AND SHE WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR ACROSS TO A SAFER LOCATION ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD TO AWAIT HELP. TOYOTA'S GAS PEDAL RECALL STARTED WITH THE 2005 TOYOTA AVALON, SO WE HAD NO RECOURSE FOR ACTION AND THE CAR IS NOW GONE, SO THERE IS NO EVIDENCE TO INSPECT. WE ARE CONVINCED THE GAS PEDAL STICKING / CRUISE CONTROL REFUSING TO RELEASE WAS THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT AND WANT TO PASS ON THE INFORMATION SO THAT OTHERS CAN BE PROTECTED FROM INJURY *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVEN SINCE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR WAS IT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

ON 5-27-2013, I EXPERIENCED A TERRIFYING INCIDENT WITH MY TOYOTA AVALON. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE, AND LEFT THE ENGINE RUNNING TO KEEP THE A/C GOING FOR OUR DOG, WHILE I ASSISTED MY WIFE FROM THE BACK SEAT. I PRESSED THE DOOR UNLOCK FEATURE TO OPEN ALL THE DOOR LOCKS. WHEN I EXITED FROM THE DRIVER SIDE I CLOSED THAT DOOR. WHEN MY WIFE EXISTED FROM THE REAR DRIVER SIDE I CLOSED THAT DOOR AND THEN WENT TO THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR TO GET MY DOG. IN THAT SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, ALL OF THE DOORS HAD AUTOMATICALLY LOCKED, TRAPPING MY DOG IN THE CAR. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS MIGHT HAPPEN WHEN A CHILD IS IN THE VEHICLE. IN MY CASE I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE MY SON DRIVE ME TO MY HOME TO GET MY SPARE KEY AND RETURN TO OPEN THE VEHICLE. THE RESPONSE FROM TOYOTA TO THIS COMPLAINT WAS TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER, BUT THEY OFFERED NO EXPLANATION OR REASON FOR THIS EVENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A CONNECTION PROBLEM UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT AND AS A RESULT, THE WIRING HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,000.
STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT. VEHICLE WOULD NOT RETURN TO STRAIGHT FORWARD DIRECTION AFTER A TURN. FORCE WAS REQUIRED TO BRING VEHICLE BACK TO STRAIGHT PATH. PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY INTERNAL LEAKING OF STEERING FLUID. DEALER REPLACED STEERING RACK. POWER STEERING LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO RUSTING. *TR
2004 TOYOTA AVALON. CONSUMER REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT FOR POWER STEERING AND WHEEL HUB REPAIRS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED SHE EXPERIENCED STEERING FAILURE, TWO YEARS PRIOR TO THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER WENT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, BECAUSE THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WAS TOO FAR TO DRIVE TO FOR THE REPAIR. UPON SUBMITTING ALL THE REQUIRED PROOF, TOYOTA REFUSED REIMBURSEMENT STATING THE REPAIR SHE PAID FOR WAS NOT THE REASON FOR THE RECALL. THEREFORE, THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR THE CORRECT REPAIR, WHICH SHE FELT HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE. LAST FALL, THE CONSUMER STARTED TO HEAR A WHIRRING NOISE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM THEN, THE NOISE BECAME LOUDER AND AGAIN, SHE WENT BACK TO THE DEALER. AT THAT TIME, THE NOISE WAS DIAGNOSED AS A WHEEL HUB THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACE AT A COST OF $ 750 PER WHEEL PLUS TAX TOTALING OVER $3,000. THE LEAD MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS BEING ONE REPLACEMENT OF THE RIGHT REAR HUB, NOT ALL FOUR. *JB

WHEN THE CAR IS MOVING, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES AND GLOWS, SOMETIMES FOR A FEW MINUTES AND SOMETIMES FOR AN HOUR. THEN IT GOES OUT. I RECEIVED AN INTERIM NOTICE LETTER FROM TOYOTA OVER 2 MONTHS AGO CITING THIS PROBLEM AND STATING THAT THEY WOULD NOTIFY ME "AGAIN WHEN A REMEDY IS READY". I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANOTHER NOTICE AND I AM AFRAID THAT A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, INJURY OR FATALITY COULD OCCUR IF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYS WHILE BEING DRIVEN AND NO COLLISION HAS OCCURRED. IN DECEMBER, I TOOK MY 2004 AVALON TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE STEERING COLUMN BRACKET RECALL. SHORTLY AFTER, I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP COMPLAINING ABOUT MY ODD STEERING. I COULD FEEL THE STEERING STIFFEN, THEN RETURN TO NORMAL, THEN BACK TO STIFFENING. THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE CAR FOR A DAY TO CHECK OUT THE STEERING WHICH THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. NOW, MY STEERING IS STIFF ALL OF THE TIME. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. IT IS NOT SAFE TO BE ON THE ROAD. IN RESEARCHING I HAVE NOT FOUND A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. AS OF SEPTEMBER 9, 2014, I HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED IF A SOLUTION OR WHAT CORRECTIVE ACTION IS BEING TAKEN. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SAFETY RECALL NOTICE CONCERNING ENGINE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY *TGW THE CONSUMER BELIEVED UNNECESSARY REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE, PRIOR TO RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTICE. ON 30 DECEMBER 2010, I TOOK MY 2004 TOYOTA AVALON FOR SERVICE PER A RECALL FOR A STEERING BRACKET REPLACEMENT. I PICKED UP THE CAR ON 03 JANUARY 2011 AND DROVE IT HOME. THE NEXT TIME IT WAS DRIVEN WAS ON JANUARY 10 AND I NOTICED THE STEERING WAS "STICKING" SO I NOTIFIED THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT. WHILE DRIVING TO HAVE THE VEHICLE CHECKED, THE STEERING LOCKED UP AND I NEARLY CRASHED BEFORE MANAGING TO STOP. THE CAR WAS TOWED IN FOR SERVICE AND I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE "STEERING RACK". THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 37,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO BE REPAIRED AND THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEAT WAS WORKING NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED IN 2008. THE CONTACT STATED THE HEAT WAS WORKING FINE UNTIL HE TOOK HIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER; HOWEVER, THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND WOULD NOT RETURN HIS CALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TOYOTA STATED THAT CUSTOMERS WILL BE NOTIFIED "...BEGINNING IN LATE AUGUST 2010 TO BRING THEIR VEHICLES TO THEIR TOYOTA DEALER FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN BRACKET..." AS OF TODAY, OCTOBER 6, 2010, NOTIFICATION HAS NOT BE SENT TO ME. ALTHOUGH I HAVE HAD THE PART REPLACED, THE REPLACEMENT WAS DUE ONLY TO MY DILIGENCE AND NOT TO THE PRUDENCE OF TOYOTA. I FEEL SYMPATHY FOR THOSE DRIVERS WHO MAY HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A NEEDLESS ACCIDENT BECAUSE THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THE DANGER THAT COULD OCCUR DUE A FAILURE OF A PART OF THEIR AUTOMOBILE.
