TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL ODOR COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT THEN DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS OIL LEAKING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE OIL LINE HOSE HAD FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
THE VARIABLE VALVE TIMING OIL FEEDLINE WAS A RECALL FOR TOYOTA A LITTLE SHORT TIME AGO IN, 2015 THE SAME PROBLEM REOCCURS AND I WAS JUST TOLD BY TOYOTA THAT THIS IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM IT'S MY PROBLEM I FELT TO UNDERSTAND HOW A FACTORY DEFECT WOULD BE THE CONSUMERS PROBLEM
LEAKING TIMING COVER. SERVICE MANAGER AT JAY WOLFE TOYOTA, MO., SAY THAT 20% OF AVALONS HAVE THIS LEAK AND WILL COST ME $2,464 TO REPAIR. I MENTIONED THAT I WORKED FOR FORD MOTOR CO AND SAT IN ON THE WEEKLY SAFETY OFFICE RECALL MEETINGS. HE REPLIED, 'IT'S NOT A SAFETY ISSUE', I SAID THAT IF 20% VEHICLES HAVE A FAILURE RATE AFTER 7 YEARS, NHTSA WOULD LIKE TO BE MADE AWARE OF PROBLEM. *TR
MY 2007 AVALON NEVER HAD AN OIL PROBLEM. LAST THURSDAY I NOTICED OIL IN THE DRIVEWAY AS A SHOVELED SNOW. I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL AND THE VEHICLE WAS 1 1/2 QUARTS DOWN. I PUT THE 1 1/2 QUARTS INTO THE CAR AND DROVE IT TO MY MECHANIC 5 MILES AWAY. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLY OUT OF OIL AND THAT I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT THE ENGINE DIDN'T CATCH ON FIRE BECAUSE THE OIL WAS SPRAYING ALL OVER THE ENGINE. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS AN OIL LEAK FROM THE VVT-I OIL HOSE. I WENT ON LINE AND DISCOVERED THIS LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN FOR VVT-I OIL LINE. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD GET BACK TO ME. THEY NEVER DID. I CONTACTED TOYOTA.COM AND SPOKE TO THE REPRESENTATIVE. THEY STATED THAT THE LSC WAS FOR 07 TOYOTA AVALON'S BUT MY VIN WASN'T INCLUDE IN THE LSC, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THE SAME PROBLEM ALL THE 07 AVALONS WERE HAVING. THIS PROBLEM IS GOING TO CAUSE MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE AVALONS. IT IS ALSO VERY DANGEROUS THE WAY THE OIL LEAKS ALL OVER THE ENGINE. THERE IS GOING TO BE A LARGE NUMBER OF ENGINE FIRES. TOYOTA BASICALLY TOLD ME TO BAD AND GOOD LUCK. I HOPE SOMETHING WILL BE DONE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS BADLY HURT. OBVIOUSLY ALL 07 AVALONS ARE EFFECTED NOT JUST A CERTAIN FEW VINS THE LSC CAN BE OBTAINED BY GOGGLING VVT-I OIL LEAK, 2007 AVOLONSHERE IS THE LSC. *TR
UPON TRAVELING THROUGH NASH, TX ON NOVEMBER 5, 2013, THE OIL LIGHT ON MY 2007 TOYOTA AVALON CAME ON. THE LEAKING LINE OVER THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BUSTED. I PULLED INTO ROBBINS TOYOTA. I SPOKE WITH SERVICE CONSULTANT [XXX]. HE ASKED ME WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND I STATED MY OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND I WAS EXPERIENCING AN OIL LEAK. HE SAID HE KNEW WHAT IS WAS AND GOT MY INFORMATION AND HOW I WAS GOING TO PAY. I TOLD HIM CASH, CREDIT, OR CHECK. THEN HE ASKED WHERE I WAS FROM. I TOLD HIM GEORGIA. HE SAID HE HAD THE PART TO FIX IT AND I ASKED [XXX] HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST ME? HE REPLIED $400. I SAID THAT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT FOR A 6 INCH HOSE. HE STATED I COULD HAVE IT FIXED SOMEWHERE ELSE BUT THEY HAD THE PART IN STOCK. I SAID YOU KNOW I CANT DRIVE THIS CAR LIKE THIS SO GO AHEAD AND FIX IT. THEY FIXED IT BUT ONLY CHARGED ME $339. I WAS THERE FOR TWO HOURS AND THEY CHARGED ME WITH TWO AND A HALF HOURS. ACCORDING TO TOYOTA IT SHOULD TAKE LESS THAN AN HOUR. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA ON NOVEMBER 29, 2014 THAT THIS PART ON MY 2007 YEAR MODEL TOYOTA HAD BEEN RECALLED. THE LETTER STATED IF THE PART HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT REPLACED BY DECEMBER 31, 2021. I SENT ALL THE INFORMATION THE LETTER STATED AND WAS SENT A LETTER BACK SAYING I WAS DECLINED FOR NOT SENDING EVERYTHING THAT WAS ASKED. ON JANUARY 8, 2015, I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND HE SENT OVER ALL THE INFORMATION AGAIN AND EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT I TRADED THE CAR IN JUNE 2014. MY CASE NUMBER IS 1412170721. WE NEVER HEARD BACK ON MY CASE AS OF MARCH 24, 2015. THE LETTERS RECEIVED WERE FROM TOYOTA MOTOR SALES, U.S.A., INC. IN JULY 2013, MY PERFECTLY WONDERFUL TOYOTA AVALON (2007, 67,700 MILES) RUPTURED A TTVI OIL HOSE AND WITHIN A MATTER OF MINUTES BLEW UP MY ENGINE. UPON CONTACTING TOYOTA, I WAS TOLD THERE HAD BEEN A SERVICE CAMPAIGN FOR THE EXACT PROBLEM FOR CAMRYS AND AVALONS INCLUDING MY YEAR AND MODEL, BUT THAT I WAS NOT NOTIFIED NOR COVERED BECAUSE MY VIN #WAS OUTSIDE THE PARAMETERS. I FILED WHAT I THOUGHT WAS AN APPEAL OF THIS PHONE AND LOCAL DEALER DETERMINATION. I RECEIVED ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF MY COMPLAINT (1307241937) BUT NO DETERMINATION. I JUST CALLED TOYOTA NATIONAL TORRANCE, AND WAS TOLD MY STATUS WAS CLOSED BECAUSE THEY HAD DETERMINED MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED-- MY APPEAL WAS TO THE POINT OF WHY MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED. I LIVE IN KY, 20 MILES FROM THE TOYOTA PLANT AND HAVE MANY FRIENDS THAT WORK THERE. MANY HAVE TOLD ME THAT THE VIN IS AN UNRELIABLE PARAMETER, BECAUSE OFTEN THEY HAVE OLD PARTS ON THEIR TRAYS THAT ARE INSTALLED ON LATER VEHICLES. EVERY PARTY AGREES THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE CAMPAIGN ON THE EXACT RARE DEFECT-ORIGINATED PROBLEM AND THAT MY DAMAGE WAS THE RESULT OF THE EXACT DEFECT DESCRIBED IN THE CAMPAIGN. EVERY PARTY AGREES THAT I WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE ISSUE IS WHY MY VIN NUMBER (AND THOUSANDS OF OTHERS I AM SURE) WAS NOT INCLUDED AND WHY, GIVEN THE EVIDENCE THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED, TOYOTA IS NOT WILLING TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE REPAIR OF THE CAR---$307 FOR HOSE AND $6500 FOR ENGINE WHICH ENDED UP BEING THE MARK DOWN OF WHAT LOCAL TOYOTA GAVE ME FOR MY CAR TOWARD A NEW CAR. *JS
WHILE CAR WAS IN PARK,ENGINE FROZE. ACCORDING TO TOYOTA MECHANIC, COOLANT AND OIL WERE CLEAN AND AT PROPER LEVELS. CAUSE OF THE FREEZE ,HE SAID, WAS PART FAILURE, SPECIFICALLY A BAD VALVE. ENGINE IS BEING REPLACED. *TR

TOTAL LOSS OF OIL FROM CRANKCASE. BURST OIL LINE ON MY 2007 TOYOTA AVALON RESULTING IN THE PUMPING OF OIL ONTO THE GROUND WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS. DEFECTIVE HOSE IN THE ENGINE/OIL SYSTEM FAILED CAUSING ALL OF THE OIL IN THE CARS ENGINE TO DRAIN IMMEDIATELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MY TOYOTA DEALER WHERE THEY EXPLAINED THAT SOME AVALONS HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN. TOYOTA ACKNOWLEDGES THIS BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL. MY CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND WAS FIXED FOR FREE AS IT WAS COVERED. HOWEVER, MY DRIVEWAY IS LOADED WITH ALL OF THE OIL FROM MY ENGINE. IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE ROAD I WOULD HAVE LOST THE ENGINE. *TR
DRIVING AT SPEED ON INTERSTATE. A/C WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. TURNED OFF A/C. AT DESTINATION, PARKED CAR FOR SEVERAL HOURS. DID NOT TURN ON A/C WHEN DRIVING FROM PARKING LOT. SOON CHECK ENGINE LIGHT VSC AND TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON. DROVE AT LOW SPEED DIRECTLY TO TOYOTA DEALER TO CHECK PROBLEM. DEALER FOUND OIL LEVEL 1 QT. LOW AND OIL LEAKING FROM VVTI LINE. TECH USED TOYOTA SCAN TOOL FOUND CODES P0024 P0012 FOR VVTI TIMING MALFUNCTIONS.TTECH REPLACED BOTH VVTI CAMS AND CAM HOUSINGS, CAM GEARS, INTAKE GASKETS, OIL PUMP GASKET, OIL PAN GASKET, HEAD GASKETS, TIMING COVER GASKET. INITIAL ESTIMATE FOR REPAIR WAS @ $6400 AS CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY DUE TO MILEAGE. AFTER DISCUSSION, THE DEALER GOT TOYOTA TO PICK UP THE COST OF MOST OF THE PARTS. I PAID $2527 FOR LABOR AND $28.57 FOR PARTS. SUBSEQUENTLY THE DEALER ADVISED ME THAT THE PROBLEM HAD OCCASIONED A TOYOTA RECALL. I SUBMITTED A CLAIM A MONTH AGO TO TOYOTA FOR A REFUND, BUT HAVE HAD NO REPLY FROM THE COMPANY.
WHILE DRIVING ,WITHOUT WARNING, THE "V V T I OIL LINE" BURST, DRAINING ALL THE OIL FROM THE ENGINE. THERE IS LOSS OF POWER WITH POSSIBLE ENGINE FAILURE. AT TIME OF INCIDENT, LEAVES OIL ON ROAD AND WINDSHIELDS OF ANY CARS FOLLOWING. ( THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED ON TOYOTA'S V-6 ENGINES SINCE 2005. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A RECALL...IT ONLY "QUIETLY" GETS REPAIRED AS YOU BRING THE CAR IN WITH THIS PROBLEM. TOYOTA HAS CHANGED THIS PART 4 TIMES WITH NO RECALL. THEY HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM ON THE 2009 ENGINES, REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE RUBBER HOSE TO A SOLID METAL OIL LINE. TOYOTA HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS SINCE 2005, AND NOW WITH THE GAS PEDAL PROBLEM, WANT TO HIDE THE "RECALL" AT THE SAME TIME........PROBLEM IS THEY PUT THE SAME RUBBER PART IN . I PAID $240.00 TO CHANGE THE PART TO THE NEW ALL-METAL PART THE 2009 AND NEWER V-6 ENGINES HAVE. INTERMITTENTLY, UPON HEAVY ACCELERATION EXHAUST EMITS A HYDROGEN SULFIDE TYPE (ROTTEN EGG) ODOR. TOOK TO DELIVERY DEALER AND TECH COULD NOT DUPLICATE &. TOOK CAR TO ANOTHER DEALER. BOTH DEALERS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT TOYOTA WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM. BOTH STATED THAT TOYOTA HAD REPLACED/REPAIRED EXHAUST OR CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. HOWEVER SUBSEQUENT TO 2003 MODELS TOYOTA WOULD NO LONGER OFFER REPAIR OR SOLUTION FOR MY 2007 MODEL. SERVICE TECH SUGGESTED USING HIGHER GRADE GASOLINE. I HAVE USED MID AND PREMIUM GRADE GAS WITH NO CHANGE IN RESULT. *TR
